I thought Arena Net wanted to make something innovative?

THERE IS NOTHING INNOVATIVE ABOUT AN MMO THAT IS 99% FARMING.

And what will happen with people that deleted theyr oldest character becose they do not enjoyed them? I have bought pre-order of GW2 and played since the first day of game relase. Do i get nothing?

I’m in the same boat as Ves, also pre-ordered the digital deluxe version, and since the first day of launch made and deleted a lot of characters. Now none of the characters i made at launch exsist anymore.. so am i screwed? i dearly hope the birthday gifts count according to how old the account is and not the character.

Aaand same with me too, i’ve already deleted the first 3 characters i ever made, about half a year ago. The gift is for each character btw, at least that’s what i read… But after reading what the gifts would be, i don’t feel so bad actually.

actually its only one gift, a mini queen jennah and quite a pathetic one gift for a birthday… i expected more =/.. oh yeah scrolls and birthday exp booster but thats nothing.. how about some gems to spend on my birthday?

You can make a sniper build with a warrior, 9-11000 damage 1500 range auto-crit, and that’s without food. With food you can get up to a 23000 damage auto-crit. You will however melt like a candle on the surface of the sun if anybody ever gets close to you.

Question: did you mean 2,300 auto crit?

Anyway, please go into deatail on how you do this. If you’re hitting for that much damage, not much is going to get near you anyway. Just avoid large groups.

I think when they say ‘auto-crit’ they mean 100% crit chance on kill shot (by using sigil of intelligence for example). Not hitting for 23k damage on an auto attack that crits.

I also assume they will get their own trading post which isn’t connected to the rest of the world.

GW1 to GW2 - Steps Forward and Backward

Conversely, People have no more reason to think they know more about the term than Richard Garriot, who coined the Massively Multiplayer term to introduce the first game to allow more that a couple hundred to log in at the same time by increased support for modem connections. Simple marketing slogan, nothing more. Little to do with gameplay, lots to do with the improvements that allowed a huge leap in numbers able to log in at once.

And Anet was free to use whatever marketing label they chose to, and Im sure aiming at the Console pvp demographic inspired Co OP as a label more than any “definition” of MMO that differs according to whatever point a someone is trying to make.

Ask for solo content in a game, and the usual crowd will contend that MMO means “grouping”

You haven’t been playing GW2 much have you?

If it looks like a duck, walks like a duck, quacks like a duck, odds are, its some sort of duck.

Common sense, people.

Common sense says it might be geese too. MMO is very clear term indicating an open persistent world which GW1 does not have. If it stand on 4 hooves and makes the sound of a horse, chances are it’s probably not a duck.

Again, MMO taken out of context. Maybe I shall break the entire phrase down.

Mass

  • A considerable quantity, number, aggregation of something (In this case people)

Multiplayer

  • A mode of play involving more than one player/person at any particular time in a computer or virtual experience/game (This is where the coined term gets taken out of context, possibly without even realizing. This definition can be interpreted one of two ways, the first being, multiple players at any given time within the game itself such as person A. in Ascalon doing whatever, and person B. in Kryta doing whatever. Or the second interpretation where multiple players can be at any given location at any time. This is where GW1 gets put out of the MMO genre by some. Because zones are instanced, and can only be “Multiplayer” when grouped before entering the zone." However, there are multiple ways to communicate with other online players regardless of zone, designated locations where any given player can be. )

Online

  • Connected by computer device to one or more other computers/networks. Typically through a commercial information service or the “Internet”.

Again, taken out of context. Everyone is right, but like I stated first, ArenaNet made a statement regarding what genre GW1 fell in, which was in fact “MMO RPG”. It was designed and originally planned for PvP arena type game play; i.e, CoRPG)

Not sure where the word “Persistent” resides in any of those terms, or defines those terms. Because it doesn’t.

http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Guild_Wars

Literally the first line.

“Guild Wars is a CORPG, or Competitive/Cooperative Online Role Playing Game developed for Windows by ArenaNet and published by NCsoft.”

then,

“The different genre was chosen (as opposed to the classic “Massively Multiplayer Online (MMO) RPG”) due to the perceived differences between the game and other, more traditional MMOs…"

CobaltSixty.1542

From gw1 to gw2 is like from 360 to X1, 1 step forward and 10 backwards.

Maybe you’re just facing the wrong direction.

Now if only that was true. Read comments in this and many other threads, lots of people are displeased with anet patches, you’re in the minority who enjoys them. This is just a forum and probably only 5-10% of the whole gw2 population but its on forums you find people who’ve supported gw1 for almost a decade, so if i was them i’d listen and stop with these jumping puzzles crap.

Nope, I’m not the minority. You’re making an assumption because more people complain…but it’s still only a tiny tiny percentage of the player base. And in this it’s like every other forum for every other MMORPG. Nothing but complaints. It’s meaningless.

As for the people who supported Guild Wars 2 for a decade, I still see a whole lot of GWAMM titles running around when I play. Maybe your numbers are wrong.

Either way, you can only guess or assume you’re in the majority. I certainly don’t think you are.

Yes, there’s enough SWAMM left, people have patience, i have patience and still playing gw2 daily even tho i haven’t enjoyed anything after Fractal patch. You may not want to accept it but you’re the minority who enjoys their latest content. I don’t even need to be on this forum to see tones of people laugh at their mini games that are fun for 2 minutes and you never step your foot back in them. In game you’ll see that a lot in LA (but let me guess, they’re all trolls because they don’t appreciate what you do…), on jtv streams most people when asked if they enjoy what anet’s adding just LOL… I mean, its not one, five, ten or a hundred of people complaining, its tones.

Why in the wide wide world of holy kitten why are you playing a game daily that you do not enjoy the content of?

What the kitten seriously.

Why anyone spends real life money for gems, I’ll never know. You may be supporting Anet, which in turn, allows them to put out more content, but more often than not, it’s content many people don’t want, poorly implemented (the amount of bugs is astonishing) and Anet still doesn’t seem to listen to it’s customers (the last patch was a step in the right direction, but still too little, too late).

Why anyone spends 2+ hours farming for gold when I can get the same amount by spending pocket change, I’ll never know. Maybe some people actually enjoy running CoF P1 over and over and over again. I don’t.

Yup, I would much rather work for an extra hour and spend that money on gems → gold (and have plenty left over) than grind away for an hour in game and make a fraction of that amount.

As far as the mechanics of the drop system is concerned, Flannum says “It’s more of a badge system, so this is something that we did in Guild Wars 1 as well. Our basic philosophy is that you should never complete a piece of content and get something you don’t want. So it’s going to be the case where you go through and are guaranteed to get a piece of gear that you didn’t have before, and that you’re going to want.” So, you’re guaranteed to get a piece of gear every time you do a dungeon? “Yes.” Sweet.

Again, emphasis mine. If that was describing a system in which one run would give one armor piece, by release the game had the system we know today, in which a run gives some tokens, of which players need quite a few before being able to buy a full armor set.

Not to mention the way Legendaries were changed from beta to release, and so on, and so on.

I haven’t read the rest of the thread but I’m just going to jump in here and point out that every time I’ve run a dungeon (for the first time that day) and received my 60 tokens I could buy at least 1 piece of rare gear from the dungeon token trader.

So yes, you are guaranteed to get a piece of gear.

Bonuses for 50/50 HoM players

in Suggestions

Posted by: CobaltSixty.1542

CobaltSixty.1542

Greedy or not, 50/50 is an achievement that was very hard to get. Precursors are very hard to get. It would make sense if Anet were to magically mail a random Precursor to everyone with 50/50. An extra 500 bonus (1,000 points total) for completed HoM achievement works well too.

alcopaul did come out with a nice suggestion. 50/50 players could get some bonus emote that’s exclusive to them. Maybe something like /gw1, and a giant snowflake drops down with a sign that says “Just too good”. That would be the ultimate vanity bonus.

Until you’ve tried to obtain the 50/50 HoM achievement, you have no idea how hard it is. And once you realize how hard, and how many years it takes to get, you can’t argue against any extra bonus. Again, I’m not begging for anything extra. If Anet agrees and gives us something, great! If not, that’s ok too. It would be nice to get another bonus, and well deserved in my opinion. Kinda like when you got that Pact weapon for beating the Dragon. We didn’t need it, but it was a nice extra shiny.

Getting 50/50 in GW1 is NOT DIFFICULT. It is just time consuming.

It’s just not a good feeling when you log on see 30/100 people online and 25 of them are not repping. A 100% rep requirement stops that. A lot of the so-called 100% rep guilds don’t find people using their personal guilds for storage and stuff, they only get alarmed when they see particular members frequently not repping.

If your guild was something people actually wanted to represent you wouldn’t have this issue.

Race change and the problem with it

in Black Lion Trading Co

Cultural Armor would become unwearable by that character then. The player should still be allowed to keep it and use it on another character though (by transmuting it down to white to remove the soulbound). Or Anet could just make all cultural armor available to all races (like the cultural weapons).

Wow, do you hear yourself? So basically If I decide to change my race (if they ever implement this feature) first I need to pay gems for the race change item, then I need to spend another 120 gold on cultural armor, to buy another 6 pieces of exotic armor AND 6 Divinity runes?! Are you kidding me?

The cultural armor should be automatically converted to mach your new race, without losing ANY current items on your character.
