My suggestion is have the Book system. (similar to the Guild Wars 1 books)
You can get an empty book from an NPC. There is one book per map and each page is about an event. Doing the events fills on the pages. You turn in a filled or partially filled book back in to the NPC and choose a reward of Exp, karma, special items, etc. To fill a book for the best reward means doing all events but a partial book can be turned in.
This encourages people to go out and do events in a map. This also allows for an increased rewards for doing events, more than the couple of silver and some exp and karma. It also allows the ability to put in new skins into an area that are not RNG drop based but are worked for and selectable.
A Book system for Dynamic Events/Dungeons is a great idea.
I wonder how the season will end. Season one ended with the destruction of LA and they must top that since this is a dragon waking up. The other dragons completly changed the geography of their region. (a mountain range gone, an island lifted up, a huge scar of branded corruption).
Aren’t the vines Modremoth himself? I wonder what his main body would be like. He can probably be a map itself…
My theory is that it’ll end with Mordremoth going all and andd actually changing the geography like the other Elder Dragons did when they awoke. It’s arguable that he already has but from the PoI episode I got the feeling like they wanna actually show the destruction of the geography from when an Elder Dragon awakens in game. They seemed to be very excited about having an Elder Dragon awake during the time period that we play in. Also I hope that this sets the stage for an Expansion to the game.
Brother Mhenlo will be waiting for us at the docks.
On every game MMO, Iv always been the “Healer” Teamworking player but iv read that there is’nt any healer in the game?, I dont understand …
How does this game work?.
Help would be nice on my play style.
It really doesn’t matter. 90% of the content you’ll be running around with 20+ other people spamming 1.
In gambling wars 1 everyone had a gaurenteed drop of all items. In gambling wars 1 the items all gave a ton of gold because they where just so darn good and people would pay anything at all in gambling wars 1. Oh the glory days of gambling wars 1.
Funnily enough, I never really considered GW1 too much of a grind when going for all the cosmetic items. Nor did I feel that there was a horrible amount of RNG attached to most of the content. Sure, there was some, but not to the extent as here in GW2. Mini polar bear excluded.
No. GW2 is already a lighter game compared to its predecessor. I for one, do not want to see it getting into Disney PG territory.
Hi,
I’m not sure if this has been suggested before, as I’ve been away for a good length of time up until two weeks ago but, what are people’s thoughts on adding a Zaishen-like Chest to the game? I really liked the concept in the original GW, and I think it would transfer over to GW2 pretty well.
In GW1, you could buy Zaishen Keys with Balthazar Faction ( think spendable Rank Points/ WXP ) and by doing Daily Quests for Zaishen Coins. Once you had a Z-Key, you’d go and open up a chest that would give you something like a weapon, Title related items, or rare Tonics. It also went towards a buy-me Title.
Strolling around the WvW and PvP forums, you still see lots of posts complaining about the rewards when compared to PvE; and rightfully so in my opinion. I think tying a unique chest like the Zaishen Chest in GW1, into those two areas might help pull people back into those two areas. It could also provide a good way for those that exclusively play WvW and PvP a ( better ) source of income to fund whatever it is they need.
Here’s a few things that I’d like to see in GW2’s version of the Zaishen Chest:
Black Lion Claim Ticket Scraps ( low chance, but higher than general PvE drop rate )
Rare weapons/armor/trinkets etc.
Exotic weapons/armor/trinkets etc.
Maybe a monthly weapon skin rotation? Like one month Tormented, next month whatever. Obviously low drop rate, but still a way to get them from gameplay.
Various crafting mats.
Mini Pets
And then filler.
Anyways, just something I thought about for a whopping 3 minutes while watching YouTube. Would like some others opinion on this, and to see if Anet’s interested. Here’s the link for GW1’s Zaishen Chest: http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Zaishen_Chest
Other than the bow, I’m not too impressed with this set of weapons. Plus I’m still collecting all the Tormented skins, so no money to start on another set.
Side note: Mursaat weapon skins, Anet. Let’s go. On the hammer, don’t use the skin that came with Bonus Mission Pack; use original Prophecies skin, please.
Should just use Resurrection Signet.
Why not just call us “Commander” again? Aren’t we technically still a commander?
Like the story, still dislike all the jumping around.
Don’t remember if it was mentioned earlier, but Krognar’s Waypoint in Timerberline Falls is now flickering. Been starting there for my plat/wood run for the past couple of days and hadn’t seen it before.
Ring of Fire islands, Crystal Desert, Fissure of Woe, and Cantha in no particular order.
I don’t know. I’ve always felt their were too many Waypoints in the game. I get having them at little outposts and such across the maps, but just randomly by a mountain or stream? Why?
I’m secretly hoping they get rid of over half of them or the vines “deactivate” them/tear them apart. I just think that the large majority of them are useless.
Why should you be able to chill out at 1500 range and get as many boons as everyone else up in the boss’ face in melee? You’re at no risk, they are, you don’t deserve to receive any of their boons. You’re taking ‘play how you want’ out of context just like everyone else in this forum, anet haven’t said anything about how you should be allowed to chill at max range and be rewarded for afk pewpewing bosses.
This is pretty much how I feel. Whether in dungeons or the open-world, it doesn’t matter. Ranged classes are very safe 90% of the time when compared to melee. Especially with the new Champions in Dry Top. Ranged classes can chill on the cliffs that break LoS from Colocal and spam 1 while eating an ice cream cone and Melee classes do their best to dodge and block its flurry of attacks and AoE’s. Same for the Devourer Queen and Twister.
In my opinion let those melee classes that need the Aegis’s, Protections, Regenerations, Vigors, and Stabilities have them because chances are they’re going to actively make use of them.
bring your hamster and go for the eye!
Butts will be liberally kicked!
The bigger they are, the harder I hit!
Great find.
Oh, Life Pods…how I’m not ready to try and solo two of you healing each other.
I haven’t lagged at all since its release until today.
I actively keep my character away from her little dialog radius to prevent hearing her. When I go into town to merch, I mute the game. Something about her voice just makes me want to throw on Days of our Lives.
If you got the lockpicks all you have to do is run around and hold CTL to spot the chests. Then you have to get to them. Not really that hard. I got some very nice recipes out of those chests.
I’ve got a few recipes, but nothing notable so far. Though, I have got plenty of Emp Frags which, is what I’ve been needing badly since I don’t run dungeons. The other loot I get from them is good enough to keep me running around doing the events.
I like it, personally this way.
I absolutely LOVE the new Champions you guys put into Dry Top. No more can you just sit there and spam auto-attack until it’s dead! Unless you get lucky, and it doesn’t target you. They attack so fast, along with AoE’s, and condensed areas, it makes for very exciting fights that was honestly, one of the reasons I left the game for eight months.
On top of the new bosses, the area’s nice. I’m not a fan of JP’s by any means, but after figuring out where to go, I was fine with them. I admit though, I threw my cap a couple of times.
Storyline’s interesting, but I’m going to have to go through it again to catch everything unless it’s all in the journal, which, in that case, I won’t. Liked learning a little more about Scarlet’s past, even though I’m not that fond of her.
Rewards were good; nothing fancy, but enough to keep you going if that’s what you’re looking for.
Overall I think it’s pretty good little patch to keep busy with for the next two weeks, whether it’s farming Geodes for the recipes, or working on their AP’s. Or just going at it with the new and improved Champions.
Seriously, great job on those champs.
EDIT: Oh, right. Thanks for not adding a million pop-up Scarabs.
Why the bad attitudes in PvP? Because people are actually trying to PvP in a PvE game.
kitten me, man. Some of you need a backbone. All I can say is “QQ moar plz!”. Infract away.
My guild at GW2 launch was mostly from our GW Alliance. There were maybe 50 people playing the game in the guild. Now, there are only two of us left playing, and I only play when the other one wants to. Most of them left because they thought GW2 PvP was poor by comparison to what they could get elsewhere. The last one to stop playing left because of Ascended.
There may be a lot of GW1 players who like GW2, but you cannot prove it by me.
I’m in the same boat. About 90% of the people I knew from GW1 jumped on GW2 once it released. While I stood defiant on getting sucked back into another MMO once I quit GW1 last year, they were playing 2. I probably got a good 20 or so e-mails telling me to suck it up and nerd another 5-7 years of my life on it.
I get it three months ago…they’re never online. I’ve seen a few log on from time to time, but I’d wager not longer than an hour after we’re done BS’ing. People can “white knight” this game as much as they want. But they’re never going to convince me that it’s a good sequel to Guild Wars.
Could it be good? Sure, in another year or two. Until then, I’ll be hanging-out in 1.
PvP shouldn’t be in GW2. Ask ANet. They’re doing everything they can to get rid of it. Doing a great job too! Just go to the Mists!
Near 7 year GW1 player here. I don’t know about “betrayed” but GW2 is a let down for me personally. Just re-installed Guild Wars and am surprised by the number of people who say the same thing about GW2 as a lot here do. I suggest all those that feel this way get back into GW1 with me! lol There’s still a decent community. SC’s still being done, PvP’s still going ( though on the decline ), people are still doing HM content, Ecto’s at 11 for 100k etc.
I honestly question those that claim to be “vets” and don’t feel the same way. I’m sure there’s some that enjoy the new approach, but from what I see here in the community, and from the people I’ve talked to in-game GW1, it is the majority, not the minority that dislike it.
Paid 40g for my Entropy maybe 3 weeks ago. Great looking skin for Hammers. If you’re not interested in using Hammers, go ahead and sell it. Price is only going to drop.
I think its easier to go the other way.
Things GW1 can take from GW2:

Yea that’s it.Am I the only one who reinstalled Guild Wars 1 cause of the disappointment Guild Wars 2 is? If not, you can contact me there as Vael Strongbow (restarted completely)!
I’m thinking about re-buying it off Amazon. Gave mine away July of last year thinking I’d never play GW2. Woe is me.
How’s the population? Spamadan still spammin’?
250 gems really is not a lot of gems or gold, and it helps fund future content.
No one in GW1 had an issue with new and cross-expansion hair and skin colors being offered for a small fee later on, I don’t know why people are getting so angry about this, of all things. If it was 800 gems, sure. But 250? That’s a couple RL dollars.
I think requiring any amount of money is unacceptable for some people. I don’t really understand it. My only guess is that those people don’t have access to credit cards and/or have no in-game gold to convert. (i.e. children or people with poor money management skillz—L2RL)
While I don’t think your posts are directed at me as I am asking to pay for it but in a other way I wanted to react because of this “My only guess is that those people don’t have access to credit cards and/or have no in-game gold to convert. (i.e. children or people with poor money management skillz—L2RL)”.
Because I always have the feeling that people who spend a lot of money on cash-shops are poor with money management skillz—L2RL. It are those poor management skills F2P companies work on.. ‘you know what.. create a sense of urgency and they will be triggered to spend money they else would not spend’. BTW, kids and people without CC can get gem-cards in shops. Kids just ask there parents to pay I think. So no thats not the issue for many people here.
Wanted to confirm that comment was not directed at you. And I will also concede that those that spend “a lot” of money on cash shops could have poor money management skills, but “a lot” is a relative term and hard to define. Someone that makes 50USD/hr may feel spending $50/mo in cash shop as insignificant, versus someone that makes 8USD/hr, but I digress.
Having to leave your computer to get something that can easily be obtained while not having to leave your computer is a huge deterrent. I’m curious how many people actually go to the gem store, see something they want, then leave their house (or ask their parents to leave their house) to go to a store (which may or may not be close) to purchase a card in order to get that item. I really do feel it is prohibitive to the point of uselessness, but technically YES people or children without CCs could still purchase gems, but in a completely horrible time consuming, possibly money losing way (if it takes $10 in gas to get to and from the store to use a $10 gem card, is it really worth it?)
Or save the gas and go to Amazon. Your call.

LOL Loved it!
Seriously, if you’re like, 15 or whatever, and lack a CC or something…go outside and kittening work for 10 bucks. I know that outside thing is scary, but suck it up.
GW2 Atmosphere + Rift Talenting system + everything else from Wildstar
Wildstar isn’t out yet, thus does really exist as we don’t really know everything about it.
did you watched all the dev speak whats in the game ? the combat break out gameplay ? the housing that have a porpose not just cosmetic ? the different type of PvP activities ? most of the mmos don’t offer anything else then raids or BGs.
GW2 only has WvW spvp and Instances I don’t count living story as content that you can do whenever you want. WoW has BGs Arenas aaaaand raids nothing else also.
Devs can say all they want, it doesn’t mean that’s what the game’s actually going to be like. The devs of this game showed us how pre-patch Tequatl had a million different features but it turned out to be just a 1-spam until they revamped him.
I don’t see this being different with Wildstar, especially when they showed that level 20 dragon boss’s mechanics and the tank was just literally staying still and soaking up all the damage from everything.
Sounds like a tank to me.

Not sure if this counts but a proper fight with Abbadon because that fight in GW1 was more anticlimactic than Zhaitan.
/dance will fix that.
He cheated and 1-hitted me, the sore loser.
lol
I think we missed out on seeing Abbadon again since that chick won. Maybe in the future…but I doubt it still. We killed him, and Kormir stold’ his knowledge.

It doesn’t matter, it won’t be added.
First of all I’d like to say, this is perfectly fine for me and ANet has to make money somehow (I don’t agree on everything they do for the most part so don’t bother thinking I’m an ANet evangelist).
The Kit costs only 250 gems which equals a mere 13 gold currently, you have the option to get everything in the gem store for free unlike most F2P mmos so stop being childish.
For those familiar with dungeons they should know how easy it is to make money now.
A short math below if you please:
CoF P1 = 1g, HoTW P1 = 1g, AC P3 = 1.5g, CoE P1/2/3 = 1g Per Path, Doing all these daily totals for 6.5 gold + another 1.44 gold from the 24 silver and 20 Empyreal Fragments. For a total of almost 8 gold EXCLUDING drops.
Making money in this game is way too easy, standing around LA won’t make you rich.
I agree. Staying on the forums complaining about it isn’t going to net you that kit either.
So I totally understand why Anet basically has to put them in there.. I am mainly (and have been for a while) complaining about the reason behind this.. And thats the F2P model that generates income with the gem-sore in stead of a B2P model that generates income with expansions.
The cash shop is a substitute source of income in lieu of paid subscriptions, not the income from expansion packs. I see no reason to believe that we won’t see some sort of large update (whether or not they call it an “expansion pack” or something else is academic at this point) eventually that we will have to pay for somehow.
Several games sell expacs in addition to having a cash shop nowadays. LOTRO does this, for example.
It is in GW2 but expansions can easily be used as an substitute source of income in lieu of paid subscriptions (I would not call it an substitute because that makes it seem like if a subscription is the standard but oke). Anet was not planning on an expansion so there main income was supposed to be the cash-shop. Because of many complains they said to rethink that decision but no word about it after that.
That other games do it different.. that might be. WoW asks gets money with subscription, box sales and a cash-shop (not a cash-shop focus as GW2 but they make money with it anyway) but that does not yet make it good or the way to go for any other game.
I have played LotR a little but not enough to really know they cash-shop focus. I do know that there are some thinks you unlock one time to then always have available so LotrO might indeed be B2P game that generates income mainly by expansions. Maybe not I do not know but there are multiple ways to do something and a focus on a expansions is the best in my opinion. That does not mean a cash-shop is not allowed it’s the focus we are talking about here. (I did buy LotrO back then because I checked out there payment model and back then it did seem to be more of a B2P model then a F2P model but you can’t really know that for sure untill you play it for a while. I did not play it very long because I did not like the game that much)
In GW2 we see many decision really being based on the idea around selling gems. It’s not just that once in a while they add some nice new things to there cash-shop.
Then people like yourself should have an ample amount of gold to trade-off for Gems.
Just bought $100 worth of Gems. Why? Because I can, and have disposable income. Thanks ANet for something to spend it on. Disregard the QQ’ers.
I always have to laugh seeing this sort of reactions. Telling how much the spend on gems like if they want to show how much money they have and suggesting that people not buying gems don’t have money.. a little like the Apple fan club and there Apple stuff (that take a loan for there phone but don’t even know they do). I always think those people that spend a lot of money on gems do not have a lot of money because they clearly can’t handle money.
Trust me. the fact that you don’t buy gems don’t mean you don’t have money. I have not spend a dime and on gems and what am I asking for? Expansion because I am willing to spend my money on that.
To bad you are ruining the game this way.
Sounds a little like entitlement issues.

Wal-Mart sells backbones these days. Right next to the tampons.
Going to get an infraction over this one. I just know it.
Jesus Christ. Prior to watching this GvG video, I almost thought ( from what it sounded like ) that it might be a good deal to have as a form of competitive PvP officially. Wow, freaking Fort Aspenwood and Jade Quarry in GW1 would have been better candidate than this mess.
There is no way in Hell, that I’d ever want this introduced as such. Frankly, we need more Devs like this with the same opinion.
GW1 GvG: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EFWvdyCk1Uo
Notice how it’s…balanced? No kittenty food buffs? No spamfests? People aren’t cluster kittened into a ball?
Yeah, no thanks on this form of GvG for 2.
I can’t ever think of a time when I was waiting on a Monk in GW1 past 2006. Monks were everywhere for SC’s. Good tanks were the issue, along with T1’s and T2’s.
**Tanks were Assassins ( Thieves ) that balled enemies for the party to spike down. T1/T2’s were also Assassins that soloed some areas while the main team went through the rest.
Rejected unanimously by the GW1 veterans.
+1
One of my two characters from GW1 was a Monk, and loved running heals for SC’s and RA. I miss playing pure support, but I don’t think it’d be that great in GW2. But, I do feel Healing Power could scale a tad bit better.
**Tad meaning a bit better. Not: “OMFG, I’M JESUS IN THIS GAME!!?!?! WORD OF HEALING AIN’T GOT NOTHING ON ME!”
@mesket: gw2 will never have tank/healer in pve. because in gw2, everyone can be useful, everyone can dps, everyone can play active.
they even said that before the game was released.if you want to play a tank/healer play wvw/pvp or move on to another game with trinity.
seriously.LOL seriously??? hahahaha man please read again…
I NEVER said I wanted tanks and healers. If anything I’m against them in this game. PLEASE read again.
a few posts ago u said trinity in gw2 would have been nice.
seriously man. there is no reason to be so mad about berserker gear. maybe you just have to get better at the game so you can use it as well.
other than that: dodge wont be removed. so nothing will really change.
and if you think all people do in gw2 is dps then you are simply wrong.
But all they do is DPS. The majority of the Boons/“teamplay” comes as a byproduct of that DPS.
Nothing to fix with zerker gear. The problem is with crappy AI, 1-shot mechanics, low rate of attacks, and lack of skills on an enemies bar.
An actual paid expansion? For all we know never.
But anet has not ruled out new areas being added in a regular update as far as I know.
We do know we’re getting new skills in 2013 as well.
I’m hoping the first new area(s) we get will be the Crystal Desert if/when it ever happens.
Crystal Desert would be a nice area to get back into. Love to see how it changed from GW1. Also would love to see Ring of Fire islands, as that was my favorite area in GW1 Prophecies.
