because if you run as a Charr people will automatically assume you are a broski bully who likes making tough looking characters

as opposed to the ‘hotty’ human
the ‘cutesy’ Asura
or the laid-back Norn

If you’re Sylvari I assume you like gardening

or maybe salads…..

On opposite of the OP, I made a Charr because I like the monstery look.

Guild Hall customization and expansion and GvG?

lol Got to get a Guild Hall to customize first! I agree though.

It’s the first thing that came to my mind when GW2 was announced.

“I can’t wait to see Guild Halls in GW2 and how much they expand the creation/customization system for them!” Then GW2 comes to life and there’s no Guild Halls period. -.-;;

Yeah, it’s one of the things I’m really looking forward to as well. Crafting Stations, Merchants, Guild Stashes, TP, maybe an Asura Gate to LA or something, a snazzy two-story strip club where we can go afk ( Oops, that’s Scarlet Blade ).

My number one reason is…

Because after all the crap your character/Humans go through in GW1, how could I ever be happy playing as something that single-handedly decimated the Human race? Plus I had ( and still have ) an odd fascination with killing them over and over and over again. Even here in GW2.

Ask Jaw Smokeskin, Blaze Bloodbane, Ghast Ashy-poo, and ole’ Red Eye. They hated me, and I them.

After subbing to FF14 i gotta say i much prefer Trinity based games, say what you will but its a lot more fun and productive than “Zerg DPS for the win” style mechanics that is for sure..

How’s that game? I’ve been thinking about trying it out. As much as I loved GW1, I’m starting to think GW2 isn’t going to turn out the way I had hoped it would.

Just take it out, and give us Spears for land-based weapons. Tridents as well I suppose. No Spearguns needed.

@Chewables
I honestly dont know if thats why there not making cantha. I really hope they do. Personally i wouldnt be offended by it and i cant imagine anyone who would be but i think they are considering the impact cantha would have on their sales in china.

I’m 99% sure that’s exactly what they’re doing. Once GW2 goes live in China, they’ll put their feelers out to their customers, and gauge the interest of an Asian-themed expansion/LS update. We’ll likely never even hear anything of it, regardless of the results. Depending on the feedback, then we’ll hear a for sure “yay” or “nay”.

Putting this game out there to China is huge for ANet. If China doesn’t like Cantha, we’ll never see it within GW2. Bits and pieces of “news” from the continent, sure. But nothing that will amount to more than that, in risk of upsetting what could quite possibly PO a larger amount of players than here in the U.S. and Europe.

In all honesty, it’s one of those “hope for the best, expect the worst” type of things. But thinking about it, it’s just not likely if it purely rests on the shoulders of East Asian consumers.

if we look at wow and its trinaty its a tank pulling some mobs and if he needs a smoke he just rolls one as he tanks. healer is able to do the same to a bigger degree

Um, yeah, no. Not even slightly. Tanks and Healers in most MMORPGs that have them have to concentrate 100% on the job at hand. The slightest mistake by either can cause a wipe just as easily as DPSes not watching where they’re stepping.

That’s pretty much how I feel, as someone who played a Monk ( alt ) for nearly 7 years through PvP and PvE.

If people haven’t had a primary character that was full support in any game, they shouldn’t be posting in this thread. Trivialize the roles if you wish, but it’s ( often times ) a lot more engaging than spamming all your DPS skills.

In a Matt Visual interview a dev rumored Cantha(or Cantha themed content) may come through Living Story(the Bazaar is arguably Canthan content).. I don’t know if this is positive since that would probably mean it would be temporary. There is just so much juicy lore that can be made in Cantha , like the Jade Sea and Petrified Forest stories. What about the dragon’s? Did some of them visit Cantha? We know the trade routes were cut off because of them and the new Emperor. The Luxon and Kurzick were erased. Maybe there are a few secretive Luxon or Kurzicks still out there.

I would rather they expand Tyria’s globe to fit in Cantha. I really don’t remember where Cantha lies in Tyria.

This project would be long term because of the scope and actual size of the continent. Either they have some secretive team working on it , or they are just trying to get the fans to forget about Cantha. Like it didn’t exist. Which is like a kick in the face to the fans who actually like lore.

That guy said its a possibility. he said theyre looking into it. On the other hand CJ was quiet about it. So either its a major suprise which i doubt but i would be very happy to see. Otherwise its never going to happen. I wouldnt get your hopes up especially since they are trying to release the game in china i doubt they will include a stereotypically asian area like cantha.

Isn’t Tyria basically a stereotype of Western culture? I just don’t see how showing Asian structures or lifestyles is a bad thing.

I for one am not offended by the Western style of the current game so why would any Asian be offended by Asian content? Its not like we live in the past where everything is sacred.

I am pretty sure it does not matter where you are from if you are a gamer. Usually gamers are open minded and aren’t offended by cultural influences in games. Cantha is Cantha.. Not Asia. The buildings and other things can be just pure coincidental.

Got to keep in mind, that the majority of Western countries are a melting pot of different peoples/cultures. Whereas Asia, is not. It’s the xenophobic mind-set that is the main problem, followed by all three ( the big ones that are the inspiration behind Cantha ) just generally not liking one another enough to have “their” respective cultures mixed together; even if it’s just a video game.

It’s weird seeing so much hate for designated healing classes. Healing/Protting in GW1 was a challenge in a lot of the content and was largely, really rewarding over the years. Saying it’s “OMGSOEASY2HEELPPL” is rather ignorant if you’ve never mained a Monk or to a lesser extent, a Rit.

And that’s in reference to PUGS and organized PvE/PvP.

Also, nobody gets 450 Mithril while leveling from 1 to 80 unless they go out of their way to gather as much as possible.

Just as a reference, when I reached Level 20 in GW1 I wasn’t even close to my first set of max armor + max weapons.

Seriously? You couldn’t afford 5-6k+ crappy mats to get level 20 armor/weapons? All level 20 weapons/armors were the same; only cosmetic differences in GW1 other than inherents/inscriptions. Runes and Insigs too? Oh lawdy, another 5k tops for the best unless you were a Rit/Imba/Monk. Rolling through PvE you make that before you even hit 20; boxing or not.

@Bad Decision Dino

Did you read that definition ? Try perhaps to understand it?
Skill is not something you can read about and understand your way into having it.
It is PRACTICING until you can’t get it wrong.

Yes- you can look up an MTG deck that is successful- read and learn the game rules by heart and then – without having played ONCE you can play a very competitive game. Because you can just read it, understand it and make it your own.

You can’t pick up reflexes – you have to TRAIN THEM.
I can’t read my way into properly dodging and neither can you.

Plus – this game isn’t even close to the complexity of MTG. Do you think that the players here will bother trying to FIGURE things out?
While you believe you can’t just pick up an MTG deck and breeze through – you most certainly load up a GW2 build and breeze through.

Pressing that one button at the right time means more than just pressing – it means understanding what’s going on – figuring out what situation you’re in – making a call and doing that in the time it takes to evade.

It’s not that hard but it’s harder than most players can manage – that’s why you rarely see pure zerkers in PVE.

You try pressing dodge like Hungry Hippos and see where that gets you.
The attitude you treated my post with indicates to me you’re frustrated – maybe with your inability to develop the skill needed to play this game effectively or maybe with your lack of ability to understand what i wrote.

Read the definition of skill again – rinse and repeat about the " EXECUTION OF LEARNED PHYISICAL TASKS".

Also in the future keep your arguments related to GW2. MTG is a different game – i’m not sure why we’re even talking about it.

And instead of reading about how to use a build/taking down a boss, we have videos to show us when to dodge properly for just about every dungeon boss in this game. When you go up against said boss now, you know when to dodge. Then? Yep, you press that one little button to do so.

@copetestic

If it means we’re permanently in combat and can’t swap utilities, then no.

A knockdown every 30 seconds doesn’t sound like a major issue either if we can just drop stability or pop a stun breaker. Poison-effect seems meh when we’re mitigating most damage anyway and not even using heals.

The way I see it, is that non-zerker stat combinations are just for PvP and WvW. If you look at it that way, the combat in the game actually makes sense, whereas if you don’t it just leaves you wondering why condi builds and tank builds are so awful in PvE.

Yeah, they’re not the best examples of what could be added ( modified for GW2 ), but it’s things along those lines that I’d like to see implemented to add a little diversity to things.

I really, really, hope that’s not how ANet views zerker gear as regards to PvE, and the rest for PvP. If it is, then that’s pretty much it on my end.

those that are just anti-change because it would affect how they currently play the game.

Pretty much this. It’s clear that ANet want blocks/evades to be the most important mechanic(s) when it comes to designing their PvE content. I don’t understand how having to ‘require toughness gear’ is making content more diverse. You’re literally just asking to be able to facetank some hits so that you aren’t punished as hard for failing to use a combination of evades/blocks/aegis/blinds/reflects.

Asking for diversity via more mechanics in encounters, however, would be cool. I liked the suggestions someone made about implementing rooms such as were present in Urgoz/Deep/DoA in GW1.

Hmm, I don’t think it’s really about “requiring” Toughness, but making it a little more important overall.

I agree though, Environmental Effects like in some Elite areas in GW1 would be a welcomed change like constant party-wide DoT, an automatic Knockdown every 30 seconds, a constant Poison-like effect with -33% healing etc are all great ideas and would require a more diversity than the normal dungeons/game requires at the moment.

Less than 17000 people have tried out soloqueue.
Somehow I doubt that the reason for that is all because of balance.

Balance, lack of game “modes”, ( Team Deathmatch, Capture the Flag etc ) lack of connection to PvE like in GW1 etc…list goes on. SoloQ is SyncQ for the most part, which creates a huge problem because of the lack of dedicated PvP’ers. It was around in GW1 Random Arenas as well, but given that the PvP scene was very, very, very active, I don’t ever really remember it getting out of hand like it is here.

In short, there’s just no incentive for most people. I myself, would love to delve into the PvP scene, as I feel I missed out on it in GW1 since I was predominately a PvE’er for the near seven years I played. By the time I started I was only left with RA/FA/JQ and the occasional HA. But again, it’s just a flat-out lack of incentive to do so in this game, and until something drastic happens, it’ll stay the same as is.

I don’t play a whole bunch, its more of an “as/when” basis, much like with gw1 where I appreciated the fact I could shelve it for weeks, come back and pick up where I left off, this was core to picking up gw2 when it launched as I enjoy a few different games.. I don’t like putting all of my free time into 1 thing because you tend to get bored of it/burnout quicker (too much of a good thing)

Its not an optimal way to play, but at the end of the day i have a good time playing it when I’m in the mood for it

Just wondering how people approach leveling and unlocking zones.

Do you unlock every zone within your level range as you go up, or do you simply push to 80 and go back to them at a later point (I’ve mostly been doing it for the quick skillpoints, plus the transmutation stones + occasional black lion keys are nice for completing one)

For me personally, levels 1-60 or so, I fully mapped-out the areas I was in, did all Dynamic Events that I could ( minus ones that led me to a Champion I couldn’t solo ) and tried to always maintain a +5 level on Personal Story events/quests. Once you’re past 60, leveling in my opinion becomes pretty fast. Combine that with an Exp. Booster and you’re pretty much set. When you hit Orr, you should scale pretty well with the content, as you get a nice chunk of experience while doing so, making 80 come naturally.

Once you’re 80, you can complete a map a day in an hour or two depending on the zone and its size. I sometimes take a little longer, because I enjoy actually looking around instead of just going from Heart to Heart and WP to WP.

Don’t feel like you have to skip content just because you may run into some kitten 14-year old who runs a cookie-cutter build and plays 15 hours a day since he/she’s home-schooled. Do it! More often than not, I miss a dodge by double-tapping WASD, which is why I bound Dodge to the “F” key. Zoom all the way out, and watch for the animations to their one-hit KO’s/insane damage skills, then just hit that auto-dodge button.

It’s funny how you feel the need to demonize the people that are simply better than you.

I’m guessing you’re one of those types I was referring to? Elitist in a video game. You sir, are a winner.

Odd, because I’m neither 14 years old, nor home-schooled and I especially don’t play 15 hours a day.

Aww I don’t think it was demonising. I think it was a nice supportive message, using an exaggerated example to instil confidence (much appreciated btw ).

Regardless, I do feel that ‘difficulty’ in PvE is generally mediated by ‘one hit kill moves’.

That’s what I pretty much wanted it to be.

Yeah they did.

To add to that (yeah),
You will be able to switch their stats out of combat…. ( think this, is unique and should be for a legendary, this and not having it soul bound (account bound only…))

Thanks you two. I’m more inclined to get a Legendary before bothering with Ascended in that case. Or are we grouping Legendary Weapons with Ascended Weapons ( post the patch on LW’s ) together? If so, my “Don’t Care” still applies, as I won’t bother getting one until it’s absolutely necessary to do so, and by then I can just drop the gold for it most likely.

Dodging doesn’t need to be made irrelevant. But in the current game it’s a kind of magic bullet used to avoid all damage. PvE could use some variety on that front.

I agree to an extent. Like was mentioned before, increase the number of attacks from bosses/things that matter, and Blocking would be put in check. As it stands, you only need to block the heavy hitting attacks. Past that, Heal Sig+Adrenal Health has you covered.

Yes, I read the suggestions and they sound like they can all be zerked, and no zerker stats do not need a nerf if only a minority of players are even using them. The only reason they’d need a nerf is if they dominated a meta, and while they do dominate the experienced dungeoneer meta, there are many “play how you want” bads who won’t run it who probably outnumber the berserker players by far.

Can you honestly call those “play-how-you-want bads”…bad, because they don’t run a meta build?

Yep, he can’t respect anyone that doesn’t agree with the elitist meta mob. Always the same kind of insulting comments, which will be stated as “facts.” Nothing that you say will probably change his stance, though what you say is logical and true-no one is “a bad” just because he/she doesn’t strictly adhere to an elitist meta (and viceversa; no one is a “good player” just because he/she copies what’s supposed to be “the one way to play GW2”.)

On a positive note, I like the open-mindedness of the OP and this thread. This is the kind of constructive posting that I would pay attention to if I was a developer-non insulting, mature, honest, and obviously truly caring for the good of the game.

I do not mean to offend, but “the bads that don’t play the way I do” trolling gets old with time.

I personally have no problem with meta builds. As someone who’s done countless FoWSC’s UWSC’s ( of different flavors over time ) and other end-game dungeons throughout GW1, I understand the reasoning behind a Build that’s based around the most efficient way to complete content, and repeat it.

That being said, I just don’t agree that people who don’t run meta are bad players. It’s those players that form the future meta, not the mindless followers of the current one.

The richer will become stronger faster, the poorer will have to work harder. The more skilled players will be forced to farm, as well, because unlike what was advertised to us at the beginning, being skilled in this game means zero.

I 100% agree. I was running around in the Gendarran Fields an this guy who was obviously a farmer came up and started stomping my character. I couldn’t fight back since he had a legendary weapon, legendary armor, an epic mount, etc… Obviously all farmed. I was dodge rolling, casting spells, everything, but my skill could not stop him from killing me.

No matter how skilled someone is, they will never beat a farmer and that is why they shouldn’t have open world PVP in this game anymore. They should do a different PVP mode where everyone is given the same gear, pre leveled up to 80, and you can’t farm your pvp equipment.

And then no one will care. It’ll be too much of a pain to get that many people together to work together for a lengthy period of time for an uncertain or for no reward. Casuals won’t have the time or skill for it. Hardcores will have all they need from it and will be back on their champ farming trains. And the rest of us will have no hope of finding 80 man teams.

Not to mention a LOT of us are running on 20 fps and an 80 man mob plus a dragon plus the environment.. hahaha… to quote the bandits “You’re kidding, right?”

It’s a nice idea but… =/ I’ll give it a try during the first few days. It’d be nice to be wrong but judging by the amount of dead events in Orr and everywhere that isn’t Queensdale…

Do you know why people farm dragons? Because that uncertain reward precursor drop chance. Do you know why they had to put a limit on how many times you kill a dragon? Because thats all some people do for the chest.

What makes you think people aren’t going to farm the hell out of teq when he is THE ONLY BOSS in the game that drops specially skinned ascended weapons, a minature and other ascended specific mats?

You haven’t been playing GW2 very long if you think this encounter will be dead after a week lol.

Yeah, only playing almost a year, not long at all lol.

What I’m saying is.. if it takes an 80 man coordinated mob to kill this boss, you are going to see this event dead pretty quickly due to no one being able to complete it.

It will take an 80-man coordinated mob the first 2-3 times. Then, it’ll take 30, with the rest being mindless DPS’ers/randoms. Believe it or not, there’s some good players in this game whether they came from GW1 or WoW or any other game where auto-attacking wasn’t an option.

We will have Cantha & Elona (official).

Not only is it not a “real” confirmation, it’s old information as well. Most people hoping for Cantha/Elona in the future know this by now. There’s the Cantha Thread, and one that was fairly recent discussing expansions.

Update drop pool for Orr Champions?

Orr in FA is dead, no pun intended. Just Guest over to TC and it’s dead there as well, and they usually have their stuff together there.

Would it be feasible to update the drop pool of those Champions so that people are more inclined to farm end-game zones versus those in Queensdale? I’m not saying make the drops like the new Teq or anything, but say, make it a little better than what you can get from Champions in beginner zones. Or, hey, tone Champion drops down as a whole, and give what people normally get to those that are in Orr.

Other than getting people out of the lower-level zones, it’d uncontest areas for players to get their Exotic Karma armor.

What fun! (A new player's perspective)

All I see is + 100.000.000.000 added to him and a few dungeon mechanics in the process. I already told myself ‘nope, this is not for me, i hate spamming dps, and have the feeling it won’t finish for the first hours’. Then they show ‘finish it or you don’t get 100 achievements’. Lame, very lame. Anet.

Did you watch the live stream? There is now more to the fight than just “spamming dps” and it’s entirely possible we will fail it. A lot.

Which is exactly the kind of thing the game needs. I’m looking forward to it.

How is failing a lot something this game needs? I don’t get it at all.

Because it pushes people to try harder ie: not just pressing 1 while texting and eating a sandwich.

My prediction is that they will make the world events giant failure fests as they have done elsewhere in the game where they have tried to make the game more “interesting”. To Anet challenge is simply instagibs from the particle blur. This will largely empty the world events just as it has Orr and we can then focus on whatever temporary LS content they have cooked up. The greater living world will become more and more lifeless and localized temporary content will be standing room only. I’m looking at you SAB. Have fun guys.

To be honest, I hope there’s more “failure fests” added to the game. I know I’m not alone in that as well. I know it’s a stretch of the imagination, but who knew a giant kittening dragon could blow threw 60 or 70 people at once? Too hard? Queensdale’s just a Waypoint a way.

If Cantha came back as a kittening futuristic region with cars and skyscrapers and neon lights I would literally uninstall.

I would too, in all honesty.

Best pvp dodge ive ever seen…..I dont see this game ever getting pvp to a competitive level now….god kittening dammit

I missed it, what happened

Someone asked if there’ll be other SPvP types such as assault, capture the flag, etc.

Colin answered that they want to make SPvP easily watchable so that you can see the score, know who’s winning, etc. He ended it by saying adding different modes isn’t out of the question, aka one day it might be added. (all of what he said has been said before)

The first part of his answer didn’t really make sense, since capture the flag and assault are easily watchable? If you have no clue what you’re looking at, those two are much easier to watch imo.

His answer was a little more positive toward it than that. He said that they were looking at more game types, but that they have to be careful to make sure that whatever they add is really good because it will mean splitting resources. They don’t want to harm the current game modes, and he mentioned one of the problems with GW1 PvP being that not all of them attracted a strong enough playerbase to keep them healthy.

I’d like to know just what format was lacking in GW1? Hero Battles and Codex are the two that I know for a fact were very unpopular from start to finish. Sure, they had their followers, but nothing overwhelming. Hero Battles was basically sPvP with Heroes ( NPC’s that you could modify their builds ), and Codex was TDM with a selection of skills you could choose prior to the match. The skills were randomly chosen each day, if I remember correctly. It’s not very surprising that these two were the bottom of the barrel when it came to competitive PvP.

HA and GvG were popular for pretty much the duration of GW1. Of course, it started seeing a steady decline in competitive Guilds that actively participated from 2010 onwards. Still, I don’t think it classifies as “unpopular”, rather normal maybe.

RA, always popular with all skill levels of players.

FA and JQ, popular-ish, and surprisingly fun. Even towards my end in GW1 ( July 2012 ) it was still up and going, and didn’t take long to get into a match.

Then the other one, I forget the name of it. I did it a handful of times. It was nothing more than zerg vs. zerg capturing points on the map. The few times I did it, I think it was tied to the Zaishen challenges. Aside from those days it was busy, I’ve always heard it was a dead format. Which, again, should be because it’s a zergfest.

So aside from those three, which ones was he talking about specifically? I mean really, it should be obvious which ones they should implement in the games, and that’s usually the tried-and-trues AKA: TDM, HA or legit GvG, and something like FA/JQ with 10-15 people that’s objective-based ( not capturing nodes ).

But a lot of people do want these changes. While there’s lots of QQ posts here on the forums and other fan websites, there’s just an equal ( if not higher ) amount of players defending the changes or arguing against certain things that are requested.

Weird, because most people seem to consider the Living Story really boring, to give you just an example.
But then again, i am pretty sure that if they introduce new arrowcart skins for 800 gems tomorrow there will be a few fanboys really pleased about it.
The main question is -
Look where the the game is 1 year later. Are you happy ?
Are the spvp/tpvp people happy ? – most seem to think its getting worse and worse
Are the hardcore wvw-ers happy ? – not really
Are the pve-ers happy ? – no clue
If you are happy with the direction the game is heading to, then i`m really glad for you, but i do not feel the same.
Watching their “big announcement” of a 1 hour fight that will probably turn into another laggy zergfest doesnt get my hopes up.

The Living Story content is something a good amount of players often complain about. I personally find it boring as well, but I also realize that it’s still in its infancy pertaining to the story of GW2. I think that is the reason it seems “boring” to people ( again, myself included ). However, in a year or two? No doubt we’ll be killing dragons or saving Divinity’s Reach from some dragon invasion or something, that will have real ramifications if we fail. But again, it’s something that’s going to take time to get to the “good bits” people already expect.

I think the single-most important thing to realize is that the game is only a year old.
