Worried: Specializations vs. Expansionless

If the new GM traits and Healing skills are any indication I wouldn’t worry. The healing skills are generally ignored cause they suck and the GM traits are highly gimmicky. I have not a single character with all the 5 “new” GM traits unlocked.

So you are assuming the new skills and new mechanics to be introduced in HoT will be a failure like the healing skills, and just be ignored by everyone because they suck?

Well, that’s a way to be optimistic.

The alternative’s that they’ll be completely OP and make the base classes lackluster in comparison. There’s only extremes with ANet.

Given that they’ve stated the new content is the most challenging they’ve ever created for GW2, is this the usher in of a Trinity system?

Don’t kill me over all this speculation, just voicing my concerns.

Haha. Yeah, there’s speculation and then there’s hallucination.

I don’t want to see the Trinity return which is why I’m concerned. The framework’s there ( in theory ) given the new specialization system and content that’s supposedly difficult. Anything to add to the conversation?

^ There’ll only be one specialization though (someone confirmed that on the afterparty). So you’ll have either ranger or druid (which are kinda 2 specs). Specs are supposedly going to change class mechanics, so we’ll have to see how deep the system goes.

Yeah, going to have to wait this out and see how they do it. The way I keep seeing it played out is not exactly this great thing that they seem to think it is. On one hand you have an updated Ranger, complete with all the old traits, weapons, and utilities along with all the new things they’re adding with the specializations. Then on the other, you have a completely separate class with their own weapons, traits, and utilities that’s going to add more headaches for balancing which, has always been the reasoning behind the low number of skills and such the past couple of years.

Another thing is the overall need to specialize to begin with. I mean, we all pretty much specialize our builds anyways whether we’re PvE, WvW, or PvP. Why completely funnel us into a separate class that’s not as good at doing all the things current builds generally provide ( DPS, CC, Heal ), but excels in say, support more than the other two. Which brings me to question the other professions new specializations. Given that they’ve stated the new content is the most challenging they’ve ever created for GW2, is this the usher in of a Trinity system? Guardian’s still not revealed, but I can only imagine them going two ways: Further into healing power a la Monk, or into defensive support as seem with Paragon.

Don’t kill me over all this speculation, just voicing my concerns.

I still don’t understand the whole specialization thing. Why branch off of the base class to give them new skills/weapons? Why not just add it directly to existing classes instead of creating another?

It’s great that we’re getting a new weapon(s), but I’m not too fond of the name changes that seems to come with them or the overall need to “specialize” in the first place. Is the default names of the professions that bad? Bad enough to rename the profession by adding in a new weapon?

Im not saying change it for this game. Im just commenting on how the difficulty of games in general has dropped considerably over the years and its considered the norm now. Games used to be about challenge. People didnt complain about games being too difficult back then as it was normal to force players to improve.

Two things: 9-5 Dads trying to relive their Super Nintendo days, and the 90’s kids.

RNG as a concept: Discuss

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Copestetic.5174

Just out of curiosity ANet, what was wrong with GW1’s loot system? In GW1, you ran specific content for the skins you wanted. Yes, there was RNG, but at the same time, you made plenty of gold doing the runs ( Fissure of Woe, Underworld, Dungeons, etc ) that you’d be able to buy whatever it is you were after in a few days, or a week or two.

There is no effective difference between the system you describe and GW2’s as it currently stands.

You’re out of your mind. If I took a week off and no-lifed GW1 FoWSC, I’d walk away with at minimum, Chaos Gloves with it being more likely that you could afford a Tormented Shield, a high req. Voltaic Spear and a nice Black finish to all of your crap. That’s not counting salvageables, decent vendor prices on trash loot, decent drops from trash, unidentified Rares to sell to players, or good drops from the Chest of Woe. If I took a week off to do the same with GW2, I’d probably shoot myself at the end of the week after opening a couple thousand of bags, only to make what, 500g after everything’s salvaged and sold on TP? Sweet, I can snag myself a cheap Precurser that I don’t really want, or maybe a couple of Black Lion weapon skins. If that’s what you just took a week off of work and played 8-12 hours a day to get, great. What you’ve earned in GW2 after that week is not nearly as significant as what it was in GW1 when it comes to getting the things you feel you “need” to complete your character.

Run specific content for skins? Maybe if you’re counting Tormented weapons, or throwing yourself at a boss over and over again in the hopes of getting its green. Just try to get a max rare Storm Bow, or Chaos Axe, or Golden Phoenix Sword, or even a max Katana or Tetsubo. Even Elemental Swords were hyperrare until someone figured out a boss you could farm for them. And Guild Wars Guru auction prices for dungeon skins were just as bad as Legendaries are today.

Uh, Underworld, FoW, Urgoz, Bogroots, Slavers…All ( and many more ) had specific drops that could only be got there, the Zaishen Chest, or from Hall of Heroes chest. Keeping these items locked behind content kept the demand high, and prices worth the effort of trying to score one. That’s where I think the loot system fails in GW2. Instead of spreading skins that players would think is “cool”, across its content; they just stuff it all into these stupid bags that attributes to the rest of their content being completely ignored because it’s deemed less profitable which, is hardly any ‘real’ profit to begin with since you’re dealing with Inception levels of RNG.

You could see yourself getting toward the item you wanted with each Vanquish you did, each Zaishen Key you sold, or each Ecto you bought. In GW2? You spend all your time chasing some kitten with a blue tag getting all these sweet exotic bags. And affter you finally choose to open them all the best drop you get is a kitten Cobalt, and 10 stacks of freaking Mithral and that leather crap that no one wants that I don’t even know the kitten name of.

What I’d personally like to see, is the return of how it was in GW1. Take that Cobalt, and stick it in a Dungeon path as a rare drop. Matter of fact, take 99% of that crap out of Champion Bags that’s named ( Cobalt, Shiverstone, Entropy, Anura, etc. ) and put it in Dungeons, WvW Honor Vendors, or rare drops from sPvP loot boxes. And I don’t mean put them all in one darn Champion Bag. Spread them out, like Entropy can only be got in a specific Dungeon path or Anura can only be got for 10,000 Honor Badges or something like that.

Nevermind lol. I’ve typed and deleted so many times, I’m tired of looking at this page. GW2’s loot system sucks. That is all, please fix.

How play against warrior?

in PvP

Posted by: Copestetic.5174

Copestetic.5174

Not sure if trolling, or highly misinformed…

“best armor bonus” – maybe best base bonus, but no protection uptime and lowest number of evades and teleports
“passive immune against conditions” – For like 8 seconds out of 60.
“passive god mod” – 4 seconds out of 60…
“8+ sec CC AOE with hammer” – all of which are extremely easy to dodge
“passive 100% critical chance” – For 3 hits on weapon swap, the worst of which is esy to dodge
“and best one hit damage” – Clearly you haven’t played against a d/p thief, s/f ele, shatter mesmer, etc…
“can run away like no other” – This is a joke right? They have like the lowest mobility in the game unless you run with sword or GS (and it looks like you’re talking about hambow)
“best healing skill of the game” – Healing turret combo is higher burst, d/d eles have higher sustained healing.

Since we’re being critical:

“maybe best base bonus, but no protection uptime and lowest number of evades and teleports”

A lot of Warrior builds can maintain a high uptime of Vigor, and some permanently. My build can keep at least 18 seconds of 100% Endurance regen. That’s a significant number of evades I have over someone with little-to-none.

“For like 8 seconds out of 60.”

Or 10 seconds. Then count the Adrenaline gained from Berserker’s Stance, which clears another three. Shouts to remove a few, and Warhorn as well. We have some pretty decent cleanse options depending on the build.

“4 seconds out of 60…”

5 Traited for a good number of builds. Most Warriors I see in the Arenas that aren’t Hambows Trait Defy Pain for another 5 seconds. So that’s 10 seconds out of 60 that we’re in “God-mode” as far as damage is concerned. We could also be immune to Conditions, and have Stability for the same amount of time.

“all of which are extremely easy to dodge”

In a 1v1, sure. A 2v2 on mid node in Foefire? Sure. In a team fight where you’re having to kite and dodge others? Not really, unless they themselves have a large access to Vigor, Blinds, and Blocks.

“This is a joke right? They have like the lowest mobility in the game unless you run with sword or GS (and it looks like you’re talking about hambow)”

If a Hambow’s following Metabattle ( and common sense ), they’re taking Warrior’s Sprint. Perma 25% IMS, along with 8+ seconds of Swiftness from Balanced Stance, and 25+ from Signet of Rage. Couple that with having access to Vigor, a sword of one flavor or another, and we can get out of some sticky situations. Even with Hambow, if a Warrior’s force to kite a player or two, skill 3 Cripples, 4 provides Knockback, a single-target Knockdown, and an AoE Stun. Then of course, is skill 5 for Longbow to help put some distance between the players.

Pretty much this. I’ve seen very few games recently ( MMO related at least ) that include Tab-targetting. The next ‘big’ one I know of is Bless, but from what I’ve recently read, they’ve completely overhauled the combat system to include dodging, and a more action-like approach versus the traditional Tab-target flavor.

It would have made much more sense if the airstrike was used to cut-off/eliminate the mordrem reinforcements (those that had not yet entered the base), and then our job would have been to clean up the remaining mordrem in the base, then declare victory.

Not only would there be no senseless “oh look, we survived the bombardment we target at our own troops”, but it also would have made Trahearn thanking us feel a lot more satisfying.
“Thanks, you did a grunt’s job and carried that torch! you saved the day!” doesn’t feel like a very good reason for all the appreciation and credit we received for the victory.

Trahearne literally thanks the player for every little thing. ALL THE TIME.
So many of his dialogues have at least one “Thank you”. “Thanks to you” or “We/I couldn’t have done it without you” that I kinda expect him to do that, now.

Likely due to all the kittening people did about how they’re not the center of attention through the Personal Story.

Classes would have to be free, per the PvP problems, as that could effectively allow for people to pay for the new class and thus have an advantage over all non-paying players as they would not have the experience to learn the class and counter it properly.

In which case all you’re really left with is races, which if you’re gonna put everything else out there for free, you may as well avoid the PR nightmare and just release it all for free.

There’s no such thing as YouTube? We both know there’s going to be a ton of videos here, there, and everywhere if a new profession is introduced. I’m half-way confident one of them will detail their skills and such. People also have the forums, Reddit, their friends, Google, guildies, and duels to learn their ( expansion based class ) counters.

I largely have 0 issues with locking content like a new profession or race behind a pay wall due to GW1. I couldn’t play a Ritualist if I only had Prophecies. Assuming the rest of the content is free, that’s like getting all of Factions minus Ritualist and Assassin. That’s a pretty good deal.

I had so much fun playing the Paragon in Nightfall, it would be great to bring something like that back to GW2. Paragon was a great class that was underused in most content, but I loved the class. It was my first ( and only ) toon that got Legendary Survivor pre-update that let you restart the title track after you had died. Imbagon4ever

And do you really that will do any good? The answer is obviously No. You will be likely kittened back, blocked and/or even reported for insults if you really offended someone, and being reported again just to double check. Of course, nothing will change for you and the other player.

You can’t say that it won’t do any good, when criticism is a great motivational tool for improvement.

That’s only true for constructive criticism.
Allow me to tell you that saying things like “OMG! Noob team! Please kill our lord!”, “Go back to PvE”, “Our mesmer is a noob” followed by some rants of your choice is far away from being constructive.
I hope you were not thinking about theses as “motivational tools” since they look pretty much insults to me.

But you ‘can’ use that as a motivation to get better unless it’s just a straight troll saying those things. The internet is filled with a ton of good videos, guides, builds, and strategies to help players get better at PvP ( and anything else for that matter ). And guess how simple it is? Head to Google.

There’s very few reasons people should be just God-awful, and practically know nothing in sPvP other than being willfully ignorant because “It’s a game, and I’ll play how I want! kitten the other people!”. While you call people who verbally abuse players “toxic”, I call those that simply don’t care enough to do some research and, get a couple of games under their belt before they head to Ranked Arena, toxic. Why? Because that ONE person ruins the experience of the other FOUR players who may know how to play or, not be as horrible to where they’re contributing something other than a free kill and a decap.

Then Rytlock dissappears…and now we possibly have a ghost that could be Rurick…just my thoughts though.
