I do too. In fact, harder open world content was recently talked about here on the forums. Most were in favor of it if I remember. Even if not specifically in that thread, there’s a plethora of others just like it requesting the same thing, showing a lot of support.

The line that keeps being used is “We hear what the community is asking for”. That actually makes matters worse because they hear us but they just don’t actually care what we think.

And impartial observer would’ve noted that revamping the loot pinatas we call world bosses was something many players asked for, me included. Didn’t a recent thread about making the open world harder get upvoted?

People have been asking for things like player housing, new races/skills, gvg, better armor choices, more WvW updates, polymock, precursor crafting/scavenger hunt, new legendaries, guild halls, and other things far more than just making Tequatl behave slightly differently.

Some of these things are already in the game. Others aren’t as feasible right now and resources are probably better spent elsewhere.

  • New races will require their own personal story additions.
  • GvG will really just be sPvP but between players from different guilds.
  • There will be new skills added to the game.
  • I’m not sure what you mean by better armor choices but there are new runes, lots of new skins, and Ascended armor coming up.
  • There’s been a number of WvW updates. They’re also bringing new features in and bringing the orbs back somehow.
  • Precursor crafting will likely appear in some future update after everyone’s crafted their Ascended weapons.
  • Playing housing/guild halls seems like a good idea but it could end up being really gimmicky. How often do you think people would actually visit their own houses or guild halls?

Yes these things require resources, all things do. By you saying the resources are better spent elsewhere you are doing exactly what they are. These things are constantly being asked for, but always ignored or postponed for indefinite or excessive amounts of time.

All the things you have tried to answer with “it’s coming, maybe, sometime in the future” which is all we’ve heard for a year.

Then it’s coming, eventually. What else do you want? Them to release content at the whims of people who request it? People seem to forget that this isn’t their game, it’s ANets. I’m pretty sure ANet has a schedule of content with when it’s suppose to go live. Why isn’t it out “NAO?!?!!?!”, because they’re working on other things they think is important or has more support.

They produce the game, FOR US. They don’t make the game for themselves to just gawk at. If they aren’t listening to their target audience, they are doing it wrong.

No doubt, it’s made for us, I agree. However, they have a crapton of other content they’re working on for us to progress their game. They’re delivering content, updates, changes etc. It’s just not what you want.

It’s not what a lot of people want. Which is my entire point.

But a lot of people do want these changes. While there’s lots of QQ posts here on the forums and other fan websites, there’s just an equal ( if not higher ) amount of players defending the changes or arguing against certain things that are requested.

Well, actually a lot of these things are already in the game. That’s why I was trying to say. People who say WvW hasn’t been getting attention are forgetting about WXP and the WvW skills that come along with it. People who ask for updates to sPvP seem to forget that they’ve added three new maps along with all the features like spectator, solo queue, private arenas, etc. People who ask for better champion loot got what they wanted too, much to the chagrin of the non-farming players.

More importantly, people who have been asking for a LFG tool are getting exactly that. It is coming in the update after Super Adventure Box. The best part about it is that it’s not limited to dungeons only. You can use it to find players for open world events or to just group up for whatever reason. I think it’s time we stopped pretending that there have been no changes made to the game.

People are going to whine because it’s not changes they want.

A wide variety of very rare skin sets that can be pursued.

Right now we have very limited choices in armor sets. The most expensive right now are the T3 ones, but there is only one set. The other rare ones are from dungeons, and those are time gated and easy to acquire.

I want very rare, appealing and difficult to acquire armor sets.

We have a lot of weapons now in game, and that’s good. But I think the focus should now be set on armors.

Pretty much this. To add, more Titles, and elite areas such as FoW/UW/DoA like in GW1. Like was mentioned already, would welcome a decent twist to them that doesn’t require a kittening zerg.

I don’t like big zergs- I find it both confusing and boring at the same time.
Especially when you have a bunch of commanders clumped up together.

Personally I like small groups of say 10 people- it is harder and slower but much more fun and rewarding for me

Same here. I’d love to be able to go into a 10-man dungeon/raid/instance where at certain points teams had to split to accomplish the run.

I agree about how impressive it is to have the content updates every 2 weeks.

Is any other software developer doing this? Errrm no.

Also, when you look at them, they are pretty big, each update.

So it is IMPRESSIVE, even through each individual player may not like parts of it.

What do you find impressive about it? No other software developers are doing this for a reason. It is impossible to produce quality concepts and quality code with a 2 week dev cycle. I’m a software developer and I thought the previous one month cycle was crazy. No matter how they organize their teams to emulate a longer cycle, the meta is that they have a 2 week cycle. Everything produced to date is the fruit of short-term thinking to get something out the door. It will continue on this way until they extend their development cycle. Impressed? No, I would say that I am shocked that any developer group would consider a 2 week dev cycle even viable.

Are they really doing it in only two weeks though? Could they not have these 2-week content updates already done, and working on the next one/play testing them?

Here’s my Warrior. I’m going for a normal GW1 female Warrior look. Most females had Elite Glad tops, Vabbian bottoms, Chaos Gloves, and Primeval Boots. Since I can replicate all that there thankfully, I’ll be reusing the combo in GW2 as well. Right now I lack Radiant Vambraces, as I only have 1k AP. Hopefully I’ll be able to get them next month to finish my armor set. As far as the top, Gladiator would be a better choice and more akin to the GW1 variation, but I enjoyed the Norn top a little better, thus my choice of my current top within GW2.

I chose the colors of “illumination” and “Midnight Fire” to replace the full black dye that was often seen on the GW1 set, since armor there wasn’t nearly as dye-friendly as in GW2 ( you can dye every part of the armor in 2, in 1 you couldn’t ).

So here she be.

Also, thanks for the suggestions on my Norn question. After a good 30 levels, I scrapped her and decided to just wait until more armor sets come out to work with the “Monk” look in GW2. Thanks though.

Rewards should really depend on how challenging the content is.

I agree with you 100% if for no other reason than to avoid tedium. The flipside is that there are far more players (it seems at least in this game and probably in mmo’s in general these days) that prefer just having shiny loot over having compelling game play. The end result for them is the shiny loot in and of itself not the journey by which they have acquired the loot. Those of us that value having compelling and engaging gameplay first and the reward that comes from that is a secondary concern seem to be in a minority. Yes we still like to be rewarded for our time spent, but not at the expense of everything else. I am not saying all content needs to be mind boggling difficult to be good, but this current trend of quantity over quality is a miserable desgn direction in my opinion. At this stage in the game I actually refuse to take part in any thing zerg related even though it will keep me relatively “poor”, it’s the only way Anet will get the idea this is not what many people enjoy, they just do it mostly out of fear of falling behind. So to any players that may read this and agree, speak with actions and not with words…take a stand for what you like VIVA LA REVOLUCION!

I’m the same way. I just don’t find the concept fun at all. Challenging content should by far, be the most rewarding; not something mindless. However, there should be enough reward for people to keep the zerg trains going as an option to those that lack the time or “skill” to complete the harder dungeons and whatnot where the real rewards should be.

Interesting link: Into The Pixel 2013 Winners – ArenaNet Teases Something Big
http://www.awesome-robo.com/2013/06/into-pixel-2013-winners-arenanet-teases.html

Now in it’s tenth year, the Entertainment Software Association (ESA) and The Academy of Interactive Arts & Sciences (AIAS) just announced this years lineup of winning pieces for their yearly Into The Pixel competition, which honors the best art from professional concept artists in the industry. Featuring a mix of production art and game concepts I was intrigued to find a winning piece among the entries for a completely unannounced title, the above piece from Daniel Dociu, the art director of Arenanet and Guild Wars 2. Titled ‘Crossroads,’ the piece is attached to an unannounced project, featuring an impossibly vertical futuristic city with a distinctly Asian flair.

As much as that looks like a snapshot of a modern Asian city, I don’t think it’s related to Cantha. It looks a little too modern to me. Or at least, it doesn’t quite fit with how I personally have viewed Cantha after 250 years. Sure, it could potentially be more advanced than Tyria since they seemed to have the better end of the deal against dragons and all, but I can’t see them being like a 1950’s steampunk Tokyo vs Tyria that’s like, early 1400’s?

I really want both Cantha and Elona added into the game. Hopefully, they are just saving Cantha for after the game is launched in China. Then they’d be able to say “Look at all of the cool asian stuff we added in celebration of gw2 coming to China!” <- would probably be pretty awesome marketing.

Unless Cantha is still a mix-and-mash of the three “major” Asian cultures ( Japan, S.Korea and China ). Then the QQ’ing would be on!

Possibility GW2 Never Gets Full Expansion

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Copestetic.5174

Copestetic.5174

I just want to remind folks again, the features and content you’d traditionally find in an expansion will absolutely be added to Gw2. The thing we haven’t decided is what form the release of that content would be presented in, be it a traditional expansion, living world, or some other form.

Personally, I have no problem with LS implementing content that most would see as a traditional expansion. Take Factions for example. Instead of having to re-build the entirety of Cantha in one big push, and then get it to us, they could instead section it off to relevant content that the LS is focused on at the time.

From there, they can work on the next part while we do our content, explore, farm etc. for a few weeks until the next part is ready. As long as the end-game is still the same ( having access to the map/Dynamic Events ) it would be fine if done that way.

So can we get an official input on this?

Some weapons just don’t belong on certain Classes. Rangers especially should never get Rifles b/c it just exasperates the average Ranger’s Bear-Fueled inadequacy & laziness.

Some people already think that giving Guardians- a -staff- was possibly the biggest mistake that otherwise overpowered & perfect class ever had happen to it.

and don’t even get me started on thieves…

Then there’s other things that are just plain No-Brainers. Like giving Engineers Maces with more creative Tool Skins. Or giving Ranger a mainhand Torch so they have another 1-handed DPS weapon that doesn’t routinely cause them to leap backwards off cliffs. Then there’s weapons that still need to be Built… such as Polearms so that Necros and Guardians and Mesmers can have Scythes and WarStakitten and an interpretive dance partner.

…me personally, I won’t be happy till I get a Dead Quaggan on a stick to swing around…

Also: Why the kitten is the Plural Form of Staff …. being filtered on this stupid Forum?

I agree some weapons/offhands don’t make sense. As a Warrior myself, I can’t picture using a Staff or Focus. Wtf am I going to do with those things? Sure, the Staff could be used as a melee weapon, but the Focus? Scepter? For Scepter, the only way I can even see using that is like a Mace.

Unless they come up with some Warrior type skills for a few of the castor weapons/offhands, I don’t see it working. Sure, they could just throw in Shouts and Stances tied to them, but it doesn’t make sense to do that to me at least.

I don’t think they’ll open up all of the weapons/offhands for every profession. What I do expect is, that more weapons will be introduced. Scythe’s pretty much a given down the line, and I’m pretty positive the aquatic weapons will be able to be used on land eventually. Well, at least the spear, maybe not the spear gun unless they lower the rate of fire on it.

No one wants to kill those mobs coz its a waste of time, why spend another 15 mins when u can just rush to boss get your gold faster. I seriously doubt that when anet developed these dungeons thought about how easy would be to just skip 90% of the trash ingame, what i dont get it is why aren’t they doing anything a year later, are they fine with people exploiting their way faster to the loot ?

I seriously doubt that anything will come from this. ANet knew of all the SC’s ( Speed Clears ) in GW1, and didn’t care at all. We SC’d just about every “Dungeon” and Fissure of Woe, Underworld, whatever was profitable.

Someone mentioned a player in Guild Wars 1 that was " Forgetful Was Uhhh ". That, has got to be the best one I’ve ever seen for a Rit. It still makes me laugh. I had an alt that was a Ritualist named “Vengeful was Kayako”, which is an obvious reference to the main antagonist in Ju-on/The Grudge.

As far as myself, I tend to name my characters after Charr enemies from GW1. I have a Charr Ranger named “Charr Hunter” which was the level 8 Charr Rangers in Pre-Searing. I also have a few that are named after skills or Elite Skills from GW1 as well, such as “Mend Condition”, and “Whirling Axe”.

Dynamic Events: Title or not?

in Suggestions

Posted by: Copestetic.5174

Copestetic.5174

There is no permanent content this year. Don’t listen to rumors, listen to the devs. They’re actually pretty open and vocal about these things.

ANet isn’t in the habit of just handing out titles for nothing. They’re hand out achievements for the littlest things, but not titles. So again, this isn’t a thing that’s going to happen, especially not for something like Events.

I’m starting to think you don’t fully realize just how many DE’s there are. That’s not even including LS or Meta Events. Out of all the available Titles we have for PvE, some of them are a lot easier, ( <——— understatement from Hell right there ) to get, making this Title a lot harder to get by default because of the time it’d take to trigger both the success and the failure aftermath events.

They don’t hand out Titles, you say? Combat Healer says “Hi”.

Having gotten map completion I’m well aware of the number of events. It’s also possible I don’t fully understand your suggestion, but honestly your explanation make me want even less to do with it.

I said they weren’t in the habit of it, not that they never have. Combat Healer took me a while anyway, I worked for that one.

I’m not quite sure what you could be missing. In a nutshell: Add an incentive ( a Title would be best ) for people to go check out the other 60% of the game. This gets people in the open world, and inadvertently helps newer players doing DE’s that are a little more difficult.

From what I’ve seen speculated, there’s over 1000 Dynamic Events, if not more. I’d put my money on more than that though as a good majority has success/failure Events, and some require Events to even start them. If something that’d take potentially hundreds of hours to complete not worth making a PvE Title out of, I don’t know what is.

I mentioned Combat Healer because it’s really easy to max. I had nearly 600 revives before I even left Gendarron Fields, ( 25-35 zone ) starting at 57. In one of the Waypoints, there’s a group of 5-6 Seraphs that keep getting killed by Centaurs and Skelks.

1v1 balance should not be ignored.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Copestetic.5174

I’m trying to figure out how PvP should be balanced in 1vs1 situations. I mean, in theory it sounds great. In reality however, it’s not something that can be done in Guild Wars 2. Each profession has a counter profession. Even with the crappy Meta we have atm, a KD/Stun-lock War is the bane of a Necromancer or Engineer, but against other professions, Necros and Engi’s are really strong depending on the player/build.

Guild Wars and Guild Wars 2 is built on a rock-paper-scissors system. It’s because of this, that it’s a team-based game. Match-ups in 1vs1 will never be 100% ( or even 70% ) fair/balanced, unless it’s between the same professions, and even then, you have to factor in the builds of each player and their personal skill levels.

Again though, I think once they get on a roll with balances and when ( not if ) they start splitting PvP and PvE skills, 1vs1’ers will have a better form of balance. As it stands, no format has that.

I think if they start splitting PvE skills from PvP, you’ll get your balance. As it stands though, they’re focused on sPvP balance more than 1vs1’ers, as well they should be. Once they get a leash on it, it’ll start trickling down to you guys.

Dynamic Events: Title or not?

in Suggestions

Copestetic.5174

I would say you’re on the wrong server, but mainly it’s the new event. Once all of this settles down things might return to normal again. If you’re still seeing no one doing events, then I would say it’s a problem of servers. Generally people do events, they just aren’t right now because of the value of doing the LW event and how strenuous it is.

So no, I see no value in a title for events. Events are just things that happen. That would be like getting the title for kills on your favored weapon on your main. It’s silly, because of course you’re going to get that.

And…once this LS is over with, ( assuming it ends, it’s been rumored to be permanent ) there will be a new FotM farming spot.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m in no way saying this game is hard, even with the few Dynamic Events I couldn’t complete due to over-aggroing, it’s not hard. Nor am I asking for help. I just think that it’s a shame to have all these DE’s, and I’d wager over 60% of them are never done. Some are simply outstanding, some are pretty darn funny, some are hard, some are kinda’ dumb. But ANet did a lot of hard work putting them together for us to enjoy, but instead, we…farm and then complain that there’s absolutely nothing for us to do in between LS updates.

While I personally don’t need an incentive to play the current Dynamic Events, I feel that the majority of the playerbase does, hence my suggestion. Again, adding a title is that incentive, and it inadvertently helps other players, new or old.

Just a side note: Funniest DE so far is one in Iron Marches where you escort an Order of Whispers agent to a mountain with a face carved in it. Lights it on fire, and the Grawl start worshiping him as a God. Whoever came up with that should get a raise.

And Edit, I’m on Fort Aspenwood for those that may say the server’s the issue. It may not be the most populated, but there’s a huge amount of people there, whether it’s LA, DR, or zerging for Champions in Queensdale or elsewhere.

And another Edit, as I didn’t notice the comment about Dynamic Events being compared to “weapon kills”. I disagree to a point where I want to laugh. Weapon kills title? Yeah, you’d get that in the first week playing. Dynamic Events? No. In fact, as I mentioned earlier in my post, I’d bet 60% of the DE’s are never touched.

Rooftop free running anyone?

You totally have my attention now. I remember all these roofs and amazing mazes of streets. I always got lost in Kaineng.

Just imagine all the amazing jumping puzzles possible in Kaineng Slams!!:P

Aaaand just like that, at the prospect of having to see Kaineng City again, I’m not behind this idea. No, seriously, I really was not fond of that part of Factions, I was more a fan of the stone forests which were slowly recovering and the sea which was turned into solid jade.

Kaineng City, assuming there even is one anymore, would most likely be vastly different. We’re talking 200+ years different. Just like LA, Divinity’s Reach, and all other areas that have changed drastically in one way or another. I doubt the ole’ Hong Kong slums would be even there. It wasn’t my favorite part either, but it did look very much like Kowloon, and I enjoyed it simply because of that.

Either way, Cantha as a whole is a much different place than what we know about it from Guild Wars Factions. Echovald is de-petrified, and the Jade Sea isn’t so jaded anymore. All-and-all, I, and possibly millions of other players would be greatly disappointed if Cantha’s not revisited. It’s just too big to write off like that.

200+ years ago, Divinity’s Reach didn’t exist But I do get your point . . . my point was that people imagining freerunning the slums as awesome was not as appealing to me. I mean, I do like my jumping puzzles from time to time.

(Except for the northern one in Southsun Cove with the steamvents.)

But I really don’t like that spot. My apologies, it was both interesting and boring at the same time. I mean, sure it felt like slums and like a city which had been active and restructured several dozen times. But on the other hand, it all kinda blurred into one bit lump in my awareness as I ran through it dodging Afflicted. Or, later, Ministry.

Doh! You’re right, it wasn’t Divinity’s Reach, it was Divinity’s Coast. Oopsies. That sucks! And here I was thinking I was pretty solid on the lore of GW. Oh well.

I agree though, navigating KC was a pain. I still got lost, turned around, completely going the wrong way etc…almost 7 years in. It took a really long amount of time for me to personally appreciate KC as a whole, but I really understand where you come from. The old Afflicted were annoying, and amazingly, pretty solid due to their Ritualists and Monks even if they were running a Smite/Prot hybrid. The updated ones made me want to QQ while finally finishing Cartographer. Even in NM those darn things were pretty tough for Sabway since their Necros could steal Minions ( was never a fan of Discordway ). Luckily I finished prior to PO’ing the Ministry, otherwise I probably wouldn’t have even finished.

I think the area in Factions that has me most excited to see redone, is probably Shing Jea Island, and the Jade Sea. I was always partial to Luxons, and hardly sided with the Kurzicks. While the art was nice for Echovald, I loved the Jade Sea because of all the eye candy it held ( old ships stuck in the water, huge waves that were about to crash into things, and I think it was a squid stuck in the Jade in one of the maps ). I just thought it was a work of genius lol.

Can you imagine what the jumping puzzles in that area would be like? Imagine what the actual area could potentially be tbh, it’s alluring to think about. As such, the Tengu influence from the Dominion of the Four winds probably still around there somewhere (as the land USED to be theirs). I mean, does anyone else remember the whole headmaster stint? :P The temple itself has probably been built and destroyed over again- Orr rising from the depths probably affected it just as it LA and the rest of the Tarnished coast and the Sea of Sorrows.

Oh yeah, I’m 99% sure that place would be a Jumping Puzzle-lovers dream come true.

Yeah, someone being cooked alive hardly phases kids these days when they’re seeing people get blown to bits by their grenades in CoD and banging prostitutes in GTA.

It isn’t any different from how the world used to be.
In my opinion it’s better for someone to have an understanding of sex and violence than to be horribly shocked at 18 because they were sheltered their whole life.

No doubt. I’m not really saying one should shelter their kids, God knows I wasn’t, but I do believe there should be some limitation on just what kids are watching/playing.

Dynamic Events: Title or not?

As someone that’s working on their first PvE character, I’ve noticed that aside from the random areas I come across zerg farmers, I hardly see people while doing Map Completion whilst leveling and getting ready for the next story mission. Some of the Dynamic Events are actually kinda’ difficult, even if you’re the required level or higher, and scaled down. Whether it’s running into a Centaur camp with a hundred Centaurs guarding the boss you’re suppose to kill, or defending a base from an army of Flame Legion Charr; I do be gettin’ pwned sometimes since I don’t see many people throughout the game.

Now, don’t take all that as a complaint, as I’m fully aware how Guild Wars and GW2 works. I probably did under 1000 Quests the near-7 years I played GW1, outside of the ones you had to complete in each respective campaign, ( Beyond not included ) and I suspect there were thousands of other players that did the same thing. So anyways, the lack of populace doing the small quests ( DE’s ) is not entirely foreign to me.

I’ll just cut to the point; should their be a title associated with completing Dynamic Events?

The pro of this, would be that it gets people out in those obscure, rarely populated areas. This in turn helps newer players who don’t have a Guild, or a friend ( QQ ) in-game to help them with the more “difficult” ones. It also gives more incentive to actively play together ( that’s not a farm-based party ) to complete DE’s in each map.

Not sure if there’s any cons. I’m sure someone will list some, as there’s always a negative Nancy.

So Title or not? I’d rather honestly have a Title track associated with this, than say, have it as an option in the Daily’s like: “Complete 5 Dynamic Events in Queensdale”. As, it’d probably be the easiest ones of the batch people would choose, which could or could not include new players, which is the point of this whole gig.

Anyways, I’d be interested in the opinion of the community. For the veterans of GW1, you probably remember the rumor of a Title Track for doing Quests a good number of years ago. I don’t know if it was actually ever talked about, but it seemed like a really good idea to me at the time, and even more with GW2. Again, it gets people out in “the field” so-to-speak, and that’s always a good thing.

Edit:

Here’s a thread that got me thinking more about it, and suggesting my…er, suggestion.

the living story line talks about torturing people by cooking them in a pot.

Cooking people in a pot is a classic feature of bedtime stories for young kids.

If anything ANet, if there is a problem with merging East Asian cultures to form Cantha these days, you could consider just focusing on one specific culture, like China. Personally, I think China would be the best route anyways. Mainly because you’re trying to market the game there.

If NCsoft was upset at the generalization of Asian culture in the Canthan expansion with GW1 and didn’t want to see this happen in GW2, then why did they make Aion, which is a generalization of pseudo-euro/christian beliefs? Not to mention its not like they did it only to Asian culture, they also did it to African/Arabian, and European culture, in fact there was an expansion in the works for GW1 that would have done the same thing with Incan/Aztec/Mayan culture (Utopia). Do they really expect Anet to individually separate, copy and implement entire cultural aspects of specific Asian peoples? I just don’t understand their motive in telling Anet to stay away from anything resembling Asian influence. It couldn’t be racially motivated because it just doesn’t make any sense. Unless what Josh previously suggested is the case (previous producer at the time requested it, and it happened and now he might be gone for “reasons”) in which case, I must say that producer is a resounding bookah for letting his personal feelings effect project success and possible financial return.

In bold.

My guess is that they probably caught some flack in the first game due to mixing S.Korean/Chinese/Japanese cultures into one big melting pot.

Korea, China, and Japan all have major issues with each other. While stationed in Yokosuka, Japan, we were always told not to talk about China or S.Korea with Japanese Civilians. Basically, they all dislike ( putting it lightly ) each other because of past war crimes, namely in WWII.

Screw the history lesson; Google please.

no need to google i know what you’re talking about, but still, that’s messed up, that’s total favoritism and special treatment. tons of African cultures and European cultures hate each other and we loop them all together too. The Asians shouldn’t get special treatment.

I agree, but with ANet wanting to expand it’s audience to China, it could potentially cause problems if implemented prior to reaching China. I’m going to assume they’ll be doing some surveys at their Chinese audience to see if there’s interest, or more importantly, a bunch of people PO’d at the thought of their culture merging with two ( if not more ) others.

This is, of course, just my thoughts on the issue. But regardless, when doing something like that, they do need to be careful. China is a huge country with a looooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooot of people. That means a lot of money that could potentially be made if they go about it in a subtle way.

And this doesn’t happen in Europe, since we’re all a big loving family with no past incidents on the scale of WWII… oh wait.

I never implied that at all. Please, don’t put words in my mouth. Was Europe the inspiration of the Factions campaign? No.

Part of the issue is that your character is mainly defined by the weapons you’re carrying. The cooldowns are normally longer on your optional skills and can’t be relied on for your damage/utility.

This has really diminished everyone’s ability to target a specific niche or come up with innovative builds. If I’m a warrior, and I want to do damage, I’m almost certainly carrying an Axe/Mace and a Greatsword. You now know over half of the abilities I use and how I use them. You can also probably guess the last set of abilities as well.

Yes, there were cookie cutter builds in GW1, but, with seven customizable characters you could bring with you, there was still plenty of room to try out a few things.

I just don’t feel the same attachment to my characters here I did there either. They feel very fungible, both because their purpose is all the same and because there is less customization available.

Like I said though, new skills/traits are coming out in the near-future. They’ve ( ANet ) also mentioned new weapons, and making existing weapon sets available to other classes as well, which opens up more build variety/diversity. Combine that with new Utilities/Elites, and I think we’ll be good by early next year, if not sooner. Just got to stick it out!

I feel you, believe me. In Guild Wars, I mained a Warrior for almost 7 years while my alt was a Monk that I routinely did SC’s on since Wars really didn’t have many other than FoWSC’s and even then, were usually out-shined by Dervishes or Assassins running a Derv Build.

Coming to GW2, I rolled a Warrior immediately. Leveling was a huge issue, as I kept rolling new toons pretty much everyday; 2 Mesmers, around 4 Guardians, ( for my Monk fix ) I think two Eles, ( I really want to love them, but I just can’t in GW2 ) and one Ranger. No Engineers, Necros or Thieves, because it’s not really my style of playing.

In my opinion, get back on the one that you found the most enjoyable ( Ele, I think ) and stick with it. You got to keep in mind that the game is still young, and there definitely is a feel of overall “blandness” with the classes. New skills are on the horizon, and you do still have an IMS as an Ele in the form of a Signet I believe. It may not be optimal, but in PvE, it shouldn’t hurt too much on your overall build. So stick with it, if you do, I think we both know it’ll pay off in the long run.

There will indeed! Many of the details can be found high level here:

https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/looking-ahead-guild-wars-2-in-2013/

So yeah, that incentives us to go to one place and farm… not really explore the world.

Have you really seen all of it though? While leveling, I hardly had time to “stop and smell the roses” as they say. From Waypoint to Waypoint, Vista to Vista, PoI to PoI, and Hearts to Hearts. Sure, while making my way to the unexplored areas I’d move my camera around to check stuff out, but that was mainly to avoid small mobs while constantly hitting my Sword 2 and Warhorn 4 skills, for an IMS.

I’m nearly done with the Map Exploration achievement, but I fully intend to go back and just “look” at stuff. Guild Wars was a beautiful game, and still is ( RoF Island, Pre-Searing Ascalon, and Unwaking Waters area ) . With better graphics, GW2 is nice looking too. To me, that is the incentive to really do some map exploration. Contrary to popular belief, you don’t need an Achievement for everything in-game.

Personally, I’m really looking forward to re-visiting all of Ascalon, and the Shiverpeaks. Really, really, really, really, hope I can explore the RoF Islands again, along with just about all of Factions.

This feature adds nothing of value to the game, and it’s absurd to try and justify it. It’s inconsistent with every other previous tier of the game. The only thing it does is screw unwary players over. Had I not read threads like this, I would have gotten screwed eventually.

Considering the marginal differences between the infusions, it makes absolutely no sense to make it so complex.

And no, i should not have to dive through the wiki when playing the game. That just shows how bad the in-game info is, and of course a lot of the tooltips LIE to the player. Why should I have to dive through all of that when it’s clear the game designers don’t even put any effort in telling you about how the game works?

BTW, fix the Strength in Numbers icon already.

/wiki Unique

Took about one-and-a-half seconds to look up, ( if that ) from in-game. There’s a reason why every detail is not on an item; because it can’t possibly fit in their little info box. Thus, the Official GW2 Wiki, and the reason why a player can use an in-game command to get to it prior to doing something like, spending Laurels.

If anything, think of it as an extensive instruction manual combined with a strategy guide that’s free for the taking. If you want to charge blindly into something, by all means, go for it. Just don’t get offended when people laugh at your stupidity when you make a thread on the forums complaining about your ignorance.

Thank you for ignoring my post. You should take your own advice into charging blindly into things.

You have posted a workaround to a terrible game mechanic, and of course the fact that not even the in game info is inaccurate.

Stupidity might be user error, but it’s often a two way street.

I’ll bite; how did I “ignore” your post? I didn’t bold the entirety, as the rest of the matter was irrelevant to what I wanted to comment on. That, is in no way “ignoring” your post. I could personally careless about the other QQ’s in it, just wanted to focus on one of them though.

You see it as a workaround, I see it as an excellent source of information that’s relatively up-to-date, and gives people additional information that couldn’t be explained in the game due to whatever limitations there are.

but you did not ask yourself, why just this items has unique?
1. Your really didnt read
2. You read it and thought it was nothing special

An Ascended item is unique in itself. They don’t drop in OW, that’s unique enough.
1. I did read.
2. Exactly, because unique doesn’t have a unique meaning. It has multiple definitions – none of which would give a hint of one being able to use merely one ring. However, “unique” could be understood as there only being one ring in existence – which fell flat when I could purchase a second ring.

Why are you even trying to give me language lectures when your very own grammar, spelling and sentence structure fall short? Just let it go and accept “Unique.” as a vague description.

http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Unique

There’s almost no reason not to have the Wiki opened when you’re playing Guild Wars, or Guild Wars 2. Whether it’s one hour, or ten is irrelevant. Knowledge is power, as they say. You wouldn’t buy a car without doing a little research on it, right?

So, in my opinion, you should “Just let it go and accept” that you didn’t read, or bother to take one minute to check the Wiki, and you got bit by it.
