I really hope it’s not a rehash and just slapped on like they did with Wintersday last year. Halloween has been my favorite event in Guild Wars since 2006.
Yes you’ve said that enough times. There is nothing in the video, which is all we currently have, that says the core game isn’t limited in some way other than content. I would imagine chat limits and no log in rewards to prevent mystic coin and fine materials melt down.
There’s likely a data dump on Saturday after the announcement. Lets hold off of the Chicken little reaction until we know what F2P includes and not includes.
Butttttttttttttt….just in case! Start saving crap!
Please, dear God. Do not let this be true. After I got ‘done’ with GW1 after 7 years, I hopped from F2P to F2P games. The communities there are the absolute worst from PvE to PvP. I really hope this isn’t what they plan to announce.
I find I get a ton of “Top Stat” rewards as Shoutbow since I’m healing, removing conditions, doing constant damage, can ‘tank’ a fair bit, etc. I’m enjoying the new system.
GW2’s drop system does suck. I’ve always disliked it. But at the same time, I understand why they went this route and simply put, it’s because the large majority of content is an open-world zergfest. You have hundreds or thousands of players running the same content at the same time. Making a boss drop something exclusive would kill the exclusivity and its value a la most Champion Bag named exotics.
Of course, there’s a few that are considered ‘rare’ and have some value left like the Karka bows, Lord Taere’s Shadow, Genesis, etc. But that’s mainly because pure Champion farming has gone down a bit since the introduction of Silverwastes. That’s because the above weapons ( and more ) come from other Champion Bags like Orr for Genesis, a couple of Fractals for Razah’s Nightmare, etc. etc.
If you’re wanting to try and make some gold through drops, you might want to start ‘farming’ the Champions that drop those weapon skins when you’re bored. You could also go after Sam since they’ve ( sort of ) fixed the Ogre Wars event chain in Fields of Ruin though it was broken for me yesterday. There’s also the Dwayna stuff over in Orr, or pretty much anything in the Treasure Hunter Achievement.

How about something like this, Karl? For Shield of Courage. Each block heals in the radius of SoC.
I don’t think it’s the balance, the fact their really trying to push this game into e-sports territory, or even matchmaking. I think it’s primarily that people are tired of Conquest. Tired people are grouchy. Even with leagues and Stronghold right around the corner, I question if it’s enough to make people somewhat happy with how they’re handling sPvP.
I mean, what does leagues accomplish, really? Sure, it might pull back in players who’ve quit or stopped PvP’ing, but for how long? Until they get the backpiece? All it’s doing is slapping a new set of wheels on a busted-up Ford Contour ( Conquest ). While it may certainly be refreshing for awhile, it’s still -in the end- Conquest. This also holds true with Elite Specializations; they’ll be a meta-changing breath of fresh air, but you’re still going to be bunkering down on nodes and rotating.
Stronghold on the other hand, isn’t going to do much for sPvP at least on the ‘e-sports’ level. It’s very much a casual PvPvE map with more emphasis on the “vE” part. Anyone remotely interested in duking it out with other players will probably stick to Conquest but…see the above paragraph.
I believe that ArenaNet really needs to add a substantial amount of content for sPvP if they really want to get things rolling. Maps, 3 queues ( Conquest, TDM, Stronghold ), and new reward tracks first to get people to come back. These are what a lot of people have been requesting forever now, and rightly so. If they don’t like the thought of Conquest being dwarfed in population upon releasing three separate queues, increase its rewards.
Kind of got off topic, but I think people being salty, troll-y, and not really caring seems about right for how sPvP’s been handled the past few years. Not trying to defend it or anything, but I can understand why.
Just a random guys opinion.
It’s straight bullkitten. They have an awesome sound effects team that was shown on PoI awhile back and I know that they can come up with SOMETHING more ‘normal’ sounding for a darn warhorn. I really hope this is just a troll patch for warhorn.
Good day horvgab!
why do you wish for a style that would promote staleness
Because 3-years in, and zerker meta’s so fun.
Going to post this here in case some of you don’t follow WoodenPotatoes. Goes over a ton of PvP maps that haven’t been implemented.
Hey everybody, sorry about this bug. The team has disabled the self style hair kits and permanent hair style contracts until a fix can be pushed to the live game. Additionally, sales of the hair kits on the gem store have been disabled until the fix is in.
Rest assured, the kit functionality will be returned to normal once the fix for this bug is live.
Good deal. Now how about the Warhorn sound? Sounds like a wet fart.
Just had a bug fix for a few things, but Warhorn wasn’t one of them. Looks like we’re stuck with this God-forsaken fart noise some dev thought was cool.
Please dear God, revert this change. I don’t want to be a “Fartbow” in sPvP.
Please revert Warhorn sounds. I use Warhorn a ton in sPvP ( Shoutbow ), and I can’t stand the fart noise it makes. Seriously, it sounded good normally. Now it sounds like those Tuba and Trombone players in Band that really sucked.
entitlement
All that needs to be said when summing up OP’s topic.
I’m not really a mean person, but it’s players like Ohoni that gives GW2 a bad reputation. Granted, it’s Arena Net’s fault for listening to and catering to the “casual” market these past few years, but those like OP reinforces that decision which resulted in the stagnation of the game.
I’m just glad Arena Net realizes what a large portion of the player base wants and, what their games reputation’s like outside of GW2 circles. The upscale in difficulty’s a great move and, hopefully the trend of locking rewards behind actual content ( not zerg farming ) continues post-HoT.
Warrior’s lack sustain? I hardly die in PvP. Then again, I don’t run that crappy Rampage build, either. Shoutbow4eva
I just wish they would straight copy fort aspenwood from GW1. It was the same idea but it was so much more fun.
Fort Aspenwood was so much fun. Not as fun as GvG, but it was where I went when I wasn’t doing anything else.
5v5 is a little boring on Stronghold. At least let us try 8v8 in a future beta weekend to let us players actually decide something. You know, the ones paying you guys for content we’d like to play.
I will just take that as a troll post.
I have to agree that gvg was more competitive in gw1 yet it is the most competitive playstyle in this game.
Really? I didn’t see those games at WTS.
Guardian have, ahem, slightly better burn traits than warrior. And warrior definitely will not get mesmer mechanic.
Of course they have better traits. Warrior doesn’t have burn XD (yet)
Longbow.
As far as “Only Revenant has a useful shield now” comment; I like my shield 5 now as it is. Can block for 3 seconds and run away while reflecting projectiles and gaining might. Shield 4 though is kind of boring, but ensures an Eviscerate most times.
Sword/Torch and Longbow builds are about all I can come up with too, darkaheart. Of course you lose team support without Warhorn, and I’m not sure I’m ready to give that up. Shoutbow’s too good right now with all the condi flying around.
Hyped for a stupid torch? I have none. It’s dumb considering there’s still daggers, staves, pistols, and even shortbow. All this will do is give Warriors a little more access to burning most likely which, is the last thing we need in this game.
Even extremely popular games like LoL don’t have much different modes, instead they mostly rotate some gamemodes.
GW1 also suffered from too many gamemodes. Hero battles got removed eventually, team arena’s were pretty much dead, etc.
Every new gamemode competes with the other modes. Population is already a big issue and it would only get worse.
If they implement arenas then you’d want them to balance with arena’s in mind too? A lot of kitten would be unbalanced in that mode.
And no, the mere fact that they’d implement arenas wouldn’t attract enough people to outweigh the population split over the different modes.
Moreso, GW2 aspired to be a competitive game (“esport”) and you’d like to focus on one gamemode in order for that to work.
I prefer a good competitive infrastructure over new gamemodes.
I don’t ever remember TA not having players. HB sure, but it was largely boring and not that strong of a game mode. Think Conquest but only 2 players and a bunch of NPC’s. The issue with TA being removed ( Team Arenas for those that don’t know ) was because of the huge advantage organized teams had over players that were completely PUG groups coming from RA ( Random Arenas ), and they wanted to implement Codex Arena which, was a complete flop in my opinion when compared to TA.
I believe a lot of the issues with population would easily be fixed if Arena Net did something more to reward players to participate in sPvP. Yes, the new badge system’s nice, but it’s only slapping a fresh coat of paint on PvP. Over time that paint will start to fade and flake, showing just how ugly it is underneath again.
I think this can be avoided should they split queues and game modes. For the new league system, have it only apply to Conquest. For “Death Match” mode tone down the Rank Point and Reward Track Points you get like what you receive in Hot Join ( but with no cap ). Stronghold should just be as it is now with normal rewards.
So 3 game modes:
Conquest- Leagues, normal Rank Point/Reward Track progression.
“Death Match”- Hot Join Rank Point/Reward Track progression.
Stronghold- Normal Rank Point/Reward Track progression.
That’s three game modes that fit nicely at the top of the PvP UI. The little check box we’ve been getting could be the Unranked/Ranked ( if it’s even used after Leagues comes out ) ‘switch’ if they feel that they need it; just put up a little notice or “Help” pop-up for a week or so after implementation so new players understand.
IF for some reason they still lack players competing in Conquest, throw more in-game exclusive rewards at it.
I’m looking forward to going back to the Ring of Fire Islands. It’s actually at my number one position; even above Cantha! RoF was a true end-game area. A very bleak, hot, place filled with tons of dangerous mobs, and a just really eerie place in general given the context of Prophecies.
It was literally a hellish place, and I’m eager for its return. Reason or no reason. In fact, I’d rather not have a reason! Just open it up with some Dynamic Events, Hydras, Ettins, and remnants of old Mursaat Jade constructs!
I’d be in Heaven. Just don’t forget the Mursaat/Jade hammer and longbow!
Can you get more Pact weapons after you complete Victory or Death? Other than running alts through the Personal Story, I mean.
If not, that might be a nice little ‘perk’ for a lot of us that don’t have many alts! Not sure how that’d work exactly, but I reaalllly don’t want to go through the PS 13 more times.
Edit: Found out they’re 2-5g on the Trading Post. Nevermind.

Just out of curiosity, since I’m not very computer literate. How much FPS increase can we expect by switching to a higher version? As it stands, I get a stable 70 FPS in the open world, 20-30 in zergs like Tequatl, a surprising 40 or so in WvW zergs, and again 70 or so in sPvP all at max settings with supersample.
Just wondering mainly because I suspect HoT will be a little more demanding at launch since there will be tons of events, enemies and of course players with their particle effects everywhere. Hoping to at least keep what I have now as far as FPS goes.
I really don’t understand Arena Net. Why this over actually doing something for sPvP like adding more maps, better Reward Tracks with exclusive items, or splitting the game modes to let players pick their style of PvP.
Things that have been requested for 3-years are ignored in favor of yet another ‘system’ that’s probably going to have little-to-no long term effect in player retention outside of those already dedicated to PvP.
But no1 wants that.
We want a competitive infrastructure which rewards skill over time.
I’d like to see just how wanted leagues really were within the community. I know there’s been a few threads about them over the years, but those threads dwarf the amount requesting new maps, better rewards, and splitting queues.
While leagues are cool, don’t get me wrong, they just aren’t going to change a whole lot in the long term.

I swear. Since GW2’s launched every update you guys bring a whole lot of solid content, then you add something like a Mastery Track for QoL features to kitten it up.
I’d personally like to see wvw and spvp exclusive legendary items.
Yes. That would be awesome.
But…how will those that just want to mindlessly run around following someone around in circles get it?!
QQQ

The beauty of GW2 has always been to earn rewards the way you want.
Yeah, because everything outside of kittening zerging in the Silverwastes is just SO active.
No.
The reason every other aspect of the game suffers is because you can get the rewards by logging in and playing follow the leader.
It’s complete, and utter kitten. Arena Net kittened-up making the game casual, and I for one am happy that they’re starting to gate rewards in HoT.
Update: I did a full install of GW1 thinking maybe it was the background downloading that was the issue. It wasn’t. Still teleporting, rubberbanding, and de-syncing.
My internet’s fine. I average around 60 ping in GW2. But I’m getting 200+ on GW1? lol An instanced game with little to no population?
Just got back into the game after about two years off of it, and holy crap. You guys have dropped the ball on the servers or something. I thought it was just me at first, but come to find out, there’s tons of complaints about GW1 lag/de-sync issues.
Please fix. You want people to buy GW1 to get titles for GW2. At least have some decent servers.
Can we not have half our current pets be useless first before we talk about new pets?
Perhaps they’ll give pets a major look-over with HoT…
Maybe Druids will be like Wargs from Game of Thrones, in which you can “become” the pet (and, thus, need a skill bar with at least 5 “weapon” skills).
Minos, you wouldn’t happen to have had a toon in Pre named that, would you?

I’m all for the Ring of Fire chain. I spent a ton of time in those maps/missions looking for a good r9 or r10 Jade Bow and Hammer. In the months that it took, I developed quite a fondness toward the locale.
Watcha think? Any chance us rangers are gonna get more pets to choose from??
I honestly don’t know the answer, but as a Ranger-at-Heart, I’m hoping, too.
Red post. New pets confirmed in HoT!
Oh wtf. You get something nice that doesn’t cost gems, gold, or hoops to jump through…and people complain.
Unless your suggestion echos another that’s already been proposed or, just a really, really good one; it’s probably going to be shot down by the forum community. If it’s related to something in GW1 ( outside of build templates ), definitely hold your tongue and keep it to yourself.
If they let Ranger’s get a black-ish Skelk, I’ll main the class.
There’s a new thread on Reddit going over GW2’s competitive scene. In it, Josh Davis says “Summer”.
Link home French fry brotallion?
Correction- It isn’t Josh that says a summer release. It was Steve Fowler around the 25 minute marker.

If you have the time, and you’re interested in PvP, the whole video’s a good watch.
They remove the trait that reduces CD’s on banners. It stinks, but it is what it is.
Why’s everyone getting shouts? You’re stealing my thunder here, ANet!
Sincerely,
Main Warrior alt Guardian.
There’s a new thread on Reddit going over GW2’s competitive scene. In it, Josh Davis says “Summer”.
The only Legendary weapons I’ve ever been interested are offhands. Kind of stinks they don’t get footfalls.
I’d rather want Spear for warrior! Perhaps call it “Sentinel”, since Spear is a pole arm, and there are alot of skins for spears, that are:
- Glaives (has Blade on the tip)
- Pikes (Pole arm for thrusting)
- Halberds (Has spear head and axe blade)
A whole lot of “YES!”. Warrior+Spear=love.
Now just need them to implement a Legendary warhorn named Storm Caller. Take note of that “legendary” word, ArenaNet. Legendary Weapons should be legendary because of lore; not because they have a ton of particle effects or shoots unicorns.
And assuming the zerker-meta continues.
Shiro just seems to have a rather PvP oriented, egoistical playstyle. Let’s hope traits make up for it.
I don’t think this is a bad thing. Other classes are in the same boat, and it’s pretty common in a lot of MMO’s to have some classes that are better in PvP than they are in PvE.
This is why we can’t have nice things. Like AI that works.
