About populations caps: How do you go about capping a population like Desolation with a large population of PVE’ers compared to the ratio of WvWers which usually fills our queues? Simply, I don’t think there has been enough incentive for players to de-stack, so as you have it you’ve had players stacking on the EU side; on Deso and SFR, because it is the popular choice, with plenty of commanders and fights.
Previous Tournaments have been the same, apart from the fact you offered transfer periods with reduced gem costs that allowed players to choose as they please, but that was without even having any clue about the numbers on each Server, you ended up with several Servers which simply ended up having too much population compared to others.
I also don’t see merging Servers a problem, because as you imagine many Servers do not have the population to put up a fight. Server pride becomes less of a issue, because players and guilds move quite often to find a challenge or simply to have a fighting chance. Unfortunately I think Community is a overstated part of WvW, nowadays there is simply not many organized Servers as it is in the EU such as SFR, it’s all about having superior Population thus coverage.
Anyway I don’t really think I’ve added anything much that has probably been said, but IMO you cannot fix the problems without properly balanced Populations in the first place and that is near impossible right now, without some drastic change, or a change to PPT and its scaling. You could even try an Alliance war tournament try-run in the near future.

It really isn’t that hard to counter, even if you list reasons why it is hard to pin down a thief; it isn’t, especially if you run a condi or a fairly tanky cc heavy spec. D/P SA blinds, sustain and stealth up can be annoying along with other utilities, but they do not make thieves unbeatable or invincible if they play that way. I don’t like using SA, as it feels like training wheels and much prefer D/P trickery, if I feel like playing D/P.
Our most sustainable build outside is of that is condi p/d really, which is as good as any condi meta spec in a 1v1. I don’t even know why people are complaining about 1v1s since it isn’t supposed to be balanced that way , never mind thieves with limited roles.
Tl;Dr rather than qq, learn or stay away from thieves unless you have a friend, bear, clones or minions, which may make you feel safer.
(edited by CrimsonNeonite.1048)
Condition removal is limited for some classes like Thieves without Traiting, which is still not going to be enough to cleanse re-applied conditions.
(edited by CrimsonNeonite.1048)
Once you close the gap and block their initial attacks, they are food.
Trying to dodge multiple rangers though is near impossible.
(edited by CrimsonNeonite.1048)
I don’t undestand this complaint.
I run around solo a lot and always need to stay on my toes; because there is almost always a group waiting to gank me. At least we have our uses as roamers and scouts, since we are one of the least useful in a blob, outside of guild raids in a spike team at least.
Stealth is annoying to play against, but it should be the least of your problems, besides there are other equally annoying specs that can disengage (not run) from a fight, don’t you cringe when you run into someone with +40% condi duration?
Do you really expect Thieves to be easy kills? ANYWAY being a bearbow or otherwise ranger seems the new rage these days, depending on the server you’re up against.
(edited by CrimsonNeonite.1048)
Throw some mud and hope some of it sticks, it’s a new feature!
I don’t think anyone is looking to actively recruit in those timezones apart from FSP, it just so happens Desolation usually has so many night players that people who play at night transfer in to find something to fight (I hope so..), which only happens against SFR and BB.
(edited by CrimsonNeonite.1048)
This Season is pretty pointless, last Season was too long and next Season will be ….
(edited by CrimsonNeonite.1048)
Well in WvW Ive been trying out d/d recently and played about with traits, you don’t necessarily need SA, but it helps with your sustain.
I’ve found it fun Traiting into trickery and long reach as a gap closer at least, especially after the influx of LB rangers.
Faceroll every other server and eventually everyone else gets demoralised, so you have nobody to fight. Meanwhile you get some Fairweathers going ‘ZOMG look at our tick’ in map chat. (Not exactly as dramatic as I say mind you..)
(edited by CrimsonNeonite.1048)
It really messes things up as bad positioning get’s you killed, because the rubberbanding leaves you in the middle of AOE or a melee train, which usually means bye bye happiness.
(edited by CrimsonNeonite.1048)
Not really , we melt unless traited, like with the ‘new’ Resilience of Shadows trait in SA.
We can contest the circle pretty well though.
(edited by CrimsonNeonite.1048)
Avoid underwater combat altogether unless it’s necessary, that’s why I’m glad they got rid of the lake and hate the fact you lose stacks once you jump into water. Sorry Quaggan fans..
I’d imagine if you had this 4-5 months ago it would be a different experience, the ‘competitive’ scene has changed, wvw hasn’t apart from player populations.
(edited by CrimsonNeonite.1048)
Professions are obviously not balanced with WvW solely in mind, with all the Gear choices and food/oils, which is more apparent in small scale.
The Condi meta is the one thing that makes dueling and roaming scene that much more frustrating, aswell as certain group compositions that are just a pain to fight against, like a group that compromises of many heavies with a load of boons and CC.
But apart from that the Power Creep is what really frustrates me the most.
I just want to hop on to find a good and fair enough fight, yet I have to go up against people with Guard stacks, BL bloodlust buffs, Sigil Stacks and those with Ascended Gear/Weapons which is random luck in WvW, which is where I want to spend my time and gold in.
(edited by CrimsonNeonite.1048)
Actually many of these GvG guilds have gone through changes recently, the scene has changed so much that the quality has dropped. As far as I know many of these WvW Guilds do scrims and open field stuff instead of outright PPT most of the time, but they do fight in and around objectives..
My own guild is not hardcore, yet we have 4 raids a week, we are serious about improving and also usually run alone. I’ve ran into [Care] occasionally, they’re alright even though there were probably other choices.
There are alot of good Guilds that missed out from the selection process, it shouldn’t matter if its GvG, hardcore or more casual as long as its a good experience, I doubt there was a preferential selection.
(edited by CrimsonNeonite.1048)
Stat increases would ruin small scale stuff for those people who prefer to that kind of stuff. So I don’t know how you can make Outnumbered useful, yet keep it from being OP.
Maybe stuff like +5 supply or something along those lines, but nothing that makes a group or individual players an advantage on the pvp side of things.
(edited by CrimsonNeonite.1048)
It hasn’t really given everyone a reason to make an effort for the duration of the week, no. There are fair queues during prime time, but otherwise I don’t see more activity than usual off-peak depending on who is commanding.
Compared to the last two Seasons, there’s a big difference.
(edited by CrimsonNeonite.1048)
Once more people realize this the better IMO, too many MUs are spoilt by this and makes all this effort to organize during the hours you have numbers futile, especially when you lose structures off peak to bigger numbers.
It doesn’t matter if you have scouts who can spot stuff happening moments before and even siege can be AOE’d down so easily, the defensive side is at usually disadvantage if you’re outnumbered.
(edited by CrimsonNeonite.1048)
I don’t think the lower tiers are the same anymore especially in terms of activity, so you might miss these Tiers, as frustrating roaming is against SFR and others.
At least we have Kodash this week if you don’t care about the PPT stuff or havoc/sniping.
(edited by CrimsonNeonite.1048)
Guilds usually run in coordination with other groups anyway, so I don’t see the big deal.
One blob can’t be everywhere on the map, Guilds are usually running with optimal builds/gear, are more organized and know what they’re doing compared to Pug groups.
It’s also not like everyone does it out o disrespect for their community, because they aren’t to their requirement, many Guilds run open raids at least once a week.
(edited by CrimsonNeonite.1048)
From what I’ve seen, you could have a dozen Green ants waving their arms about on the mini-map and still defend a keep successfully without being properly organized.
Maybe slowing down the cap time, giving defenders more time to contest would balance things out?
Desolation at Reset, many of us got stuck trying to use the portals that didn’t work and with queues malfunctioning after that..
(edited by CrimsonNeonite.1048)
You were warned, we even had blobs inside the OS, but nothing like some of the queues Gandara had during Season 2.
I thought this was meant to be serious business, I was wrong.
Coloured tag I meant sorry, of course people have to coordinate, but some people can troll.
Rumours of alliances are silly, it’s a game where coverage wins and you can pretty much predict who will win, big deal.
There are two servers stacked with players in T1, the main problem will be queues and trying to organize a situation which is out of anyone’s hands.
Placement doesn’t even matter that much as to what rewards you get and achievements are weekly, so tbh what difference is this to regular weekly MUs where bragging rights still mean a lot to some, but not as many as when people were more competitive when wvw was an exciting concept.
tl;dr Do your best when you can, but remember it’s a game. Even if it’s under a format that is supposed to be more competitive, you have to remember to enjoy the game rather than make it too much of a big deal.
(edited by CrimsonNeonite.1048)
Why isn’t it one coloured tag per commander? Is it that hard to code something that simple?
(edited by CrimsonNeonite.1048)
Here is the good news… siege disablers are useless during weak coverage. Hopefully I don’t have to explain the bad news about that.
Indeed, it only delays the inevitable, only serves as a troll trap really especially if your a thief!
Perhaps this is unbearably annoying since alot of the WvW population has gone Ranger mad and all you run into a is a bunch of Bows (and often Bears) running about, turn a corner? Bear and Bow? Dodge one Rapid fire? Oh look another LB Ranger!
I’ve tried dueling a LB ranger and it’s okay I guess, once you slot in some kind of block or reflect. I guess that’s why they changed S/D and it’s flanking strike to allow us to Perma evade, right?
(edited by CrimsonNeonite.1048)
Roaming was already frustrating with all the power creep.
Maybe they thought this would help with the influx of LB rangers spamming Rapid fire everywhere? I’m wondering what it was like before the FS/LS split, some of the nerfs were deserved like the boon stripping spam thanks to the elatively low init cost, after the April patch.
(edited by CrimsonNeonite.1048)
Purple is ugly, but yes actual icons would be better.
Makes scouting that much more important in advance, rather than 1 warrior running in and bannering the dead lord over and over before it’s too late.
(edited by CrimsonNeonite.1048)
It’s been this way since they took the orbs away and it’s mainly all about flipping objectives for the Tick.
They won’t take care of coverage as long as there is a population of players who play at different hours, you just have to deal with the fact you cannot possibly fight back against superior numbers without coming up with a plan, that can make up for your lack of numbers.
(edited by CrimsonNeonite.1048)
I’m getting lag spikes here and there, where my skills take a few more seconds to fire, at least there’s no more dcs from just running outside of spawn anymore.
(edited by CrimsonNeonite.1048)
Zergs smaller even on a T1 EU Server? What hours were you playing at and what Server are you playing on?
(edited by CrimsonNeonite.1048)
IF there wasn’t so much power creep we wouldn’t have people suggesting this.
Honestly SFR has more numbers because they can, complaining about that when we can manage on a good night, to put together 50-60 man blobs especially against lower ranked Servers ourselves during the night is hypocritical, but that’s how big the gulf is between T1 EU and the rest of the Tiers.
Can we expect people to not try to come up with a plan to counter our superior numbers in this game of Coverage Wars? Desolation doesn’t recruit, yet we somehow got an influx of players; especially new players who are usually just zerglings looking for fights and loot at night, who know little else and panic without or even with a blue Dorito on the map.
Anyway let’s see once the Tournament starts.
(edited by CrimsonNeonite.1048)
It’s more D/P in combination with the other Utilities and Traits in WvW at least, but there is no easier way to access stealth and blinds really.
(edited by CrimsonNeonite.1048)
Same here on Desolation soon after reset, it’s settled down though.
Deso was ticking near 0 last week during the night AFAIK, we were being spawn camped, but eventually pushed SFR back and took the keep back, which felt as good or better than ticking high I feel.
People would take this scoring system seriously if we had close MUs and if it had more meaning.
(edited by CrimsonNeonite.1048)
He means Season 3. Desolation is Full, some days we have 30 man queues during prime time, I imagine it’ll be worse during the tourney.
Only consider if you’re a wvwer, if you play during EU daytime or some other timezone that covers those hours.
(edited by CrimsonNeonite.1048)
Coverage wins, honestly you don’t actually win anything in reality, its mainly having the most players who usually end up karma training, because other servers want to sleep really. PPT is not bad, but populations are so imbalanced, having to have 24/7 coverage; not only to keep upgraded structures is a chore unless you have enough players.
Winning fights is satisfying, especially as a Guild or as a roamer who can be useful, at least you have a challenge in front of you.
(edited by CrimsonNeonite.1048)
Finding good fights – win or lose.
I actually learned to PvP in WvW mainly. The gear limitations aren’t really my cup of tea even though some specs end up being much more OP – like the Condi Meta in WvW compared to PvP.
Of course in PvP there are still Meta Builds that people follow and those that I’ve found quite frustrating to play against, but I guess that’s how Anet balances their game.
Generally though as mentioned the average WvW player is not Geared or skilled at Small Scale skirmishes which you get while roaming, and also the power creep is rampant in WvW. Some PvPers I’ve run into in WvW roaming seem to do have a bit of an ego as Amonatory mentions.
Either way Roaming for me is to yolo and to have a bit of Small scale fun outside of my Guild Raids.
(edited by CrimsonNeonite.1048)
They don’t understand how to run a fair competition. The reward isn’t worth the price of potential queues if you decide to transfer to T1 EU, so I dunno, will that just make players transfer down while activity is low in most other tiers? I doubt it.
(edited by CrimsonNeonite.1048)
I heard bear taste bad without BBQ sauce.
Even with Stealth, Thieves usually get focused quite alot IMO. Trying to disengage against multiple players; who immobilize and knock you back/down is not easy. No this isn’t just about running solo, I run with some random guys most days.
After the patch Thieves will still be a one of the main roaming classes that has good burst, mobility and are godkitten good medics. Also Venom Share will be quite a powerful tool, although we Thieves generally think that Venoms need more of a rework than this.
(edited by CrimsonNeonite.1048)
It’s not worth it unless you want to skip queues, unless the reward is a big deal to you.
