– HS + steal doesn’t work, constantly ports you back
- BP+HS + steal doesn’t work either, ports you back
- fun fact, if you try to use steal and then shadowstep, shadowstep actually doesn#t port you anywhere but on same spot………………
- the infamous immob bug (which forced you to die or /dance) wasn’t actually fixed, just got it in combination with mesmer dazes and sb 5
- dodge actually doesn’t dodge anything anymore, ate quite few attacks mid dodge today
at this point i think i have better luck winning lottery than getting 1 fight w/o something bugging out…
P.S. they actually fixed clocktower shadow shot thing :/

Rapid Fire is still OP
Why? I know that other classes can hit for the same damage-ish. I have a few examples.
Hundred Blades – You can’t move they can’t move lets hope no one else hits you (while you stand there next to them) and you have to be in the range of all the AoE in melee range. Oh by the way don’t get interupted it takes a few seconds for all the hits to land
Backstab – OK still in Melee range and dont get hit with AoE’s this one is more OP then hundred blades but if you see a theif chances are you ain’t gonna stand there and paint a sign on your back. A good theif will still hit you but if you move around he might miss.
Rapid Fire – 6k dmg in a second or less??? Yes lets use the reflect block argument. If you see it coming. 1v1 you might but if they come in halfway through a fight you are done. Lets dodge roll. in the middle of a fight you might have 1. he’ll be back off CD before you if the other fighter has not killed you by then.
Compared to staff ele is way different. Ele takes a lot longer to get to the same #’s of dmg that a LB ranger can get to in less then a second.
The other Burst skills you have to be in melee. if you + 1 someone you have to avoid the enemy. Rnager does not have to at 1500 range Lets be serious you can hit from about 1800. just because the skill has it’s red bar does not mean it can not do dmg. IN Battle of Khylo I’ve seen rangers hit bunkers at mansion from top of clocktower. Good luck getting up there before you die.

go s/p, zerker stats (power/ferocity, crit chance) for pve/leveling/trash mobs… stacking any other stats on thief is pointless, since you will still die in second no matter how tanky you build, so might as well kill them fast before they kill you.. most dungeon groups want full zerker anyway
additionally, get daggers and at least sb for end game bosses/dungeons
build wise: 6/6/whatever you want… last time i checked, the “meta” pve build was 6/6/0/0/2… google for DnT thief build
PvP/wvw:
roll engi…. no srsly, just don’t play thief in anything competitive atm, skills consistently bug out and you will just end up being frustrating watching how nothing works
if you still want to play thief in pvp/wvw despite all bugs and just general bias from anet against thieves:
- play to win and annoy other players in wvw/hotjoin: stack condi dmg/toughness and get p/d build (plenty of those on net too), people will hate you and call you max cheese abuser, get ready for long boring fights
- team pvp oriented build: trickery d/p with zerker stats (caed’s build), painfull to play atm due to bugs but still possible… needs good coordinated team though… can’t 1v1 with it really, your job with this build is assistant assassin + some team support (boon steal, stomp/rez interrupts, decaps)
Honestly though, i would just go to HotM and try out different builds/weapon sets and stats untill you find something to you likings. I personally consistenly swap weapons and traits depending on situation, takes a a bit of class knowledge but easily archivable after playing the class for a bit.

I was just thinking the other day that I hadn’t seen a thief in high level fractals for a while. Loads of heavies, smattering of everything else, and no thieves at all.
Is ascended armor now locking people down to heavy classes? I made ascended armor for my warrior and took him to 50 but I’m not going to make a set of medium ascended too, even though it would interesting to try my thief at 40+.
i got kicked from group the moment i joined on my thief, didn’t even get to enter the instance…. been doing lv 49-50 for year now….
reasoning according to the group: no thieves
since there is no instance owner anymore, can’t actually make own party w/o risking to get kicked for playing the class :/
Thieves often got kicked on join even before the patch cos 1. Lack of obvious group support 2. Squishiness. A lot of about thief class is active so a mistake often leads to being 1 shot in pve. This makes new players on thief a nightmare in dungeons so people rather kick them then have to deal with that. Group support for most people means boons, boons and more boons.
I used to occasionally run story mode dungeons for newbs on my thief, it was always pain. It took ages, especially with very low lvl toons in party and I often had to finish the boss myself cos everyone died.
Made a guard a week ago, I could carry the group already at lvl 30 in ac story, with 15-25 might stacks even lowbs can burn through mobs like they are nothing, add other tasty boons and you can see why thieves are considered a selfish class in group support.
I guess Anet intended thieves to provide group support via conditions rather than boons but other classes can apply them too. I’d like to see Anet to give us the option to buff party with offensive boons, for example Furious Retaliation could give fury to me and to allies too. Or a new trait with x% change to gain and share might with allies on a crit or crit with sword equipped. Or share might with allies when using Signets of Power (with cooldown so we wouldn’t give 20 stacks to everyone in 1s).
pve wise, class deinitely needs more group support…. venom share is not the answer since condis are a joke in pve and in pvp it is hardly usefull
honestly i think they should change traps for that purpose… kind of like banners
add fire field to traps so you can blast might
add some kind of healing or boon support (kind of like tree you can steal from ranger)
add a trap that pulls nearbly foes together and immobs them for x sec
smoke screen if traited should apply confusion and poison upon blocking projectile imo
there should be trait that allows you to place trap anywhere like necro mark instead of on top of the thief
suddenly thieves would have spot in wvw zerg too O.o

Even if engi was OP, they still require more skill to play than all of the current and previous OP builds, so i am perfectly ok with this.
I love how more options turn into “more skill”. Thats total garbage. If you just have non-stop skills at your disposal and a oh-crap button for every single situation thinkable doesn’t mean you’re a good player because you actually did that skill at that time.
Having more options and an array of skills at your disposal is like saying “hey a helicopter is harder to fly than a paper plane because helicopters have more buttons.” Take the necromancer as the paper airplane and hop on to see how far you can fly… and how easy it is to do so.
Bad logic. Bad cover-up. Its just disingenuous and quite frankly gets old to people who see right through that crap.
and then we have turret engis that require even less buttons than paper plane… with better end results than necro on helicopter
It’s easy to fix the engineers, just prevent their turrets from working in capture point circles, like mist form or stealth.

i’d go check out the Rangers Main fourm a lot of players have provided Mathmatical facts and a Youtube video to show that it isn’t all doom and gloom.
consists of the classic power lb ranger with a signet, vs a Sword+focus zerker mesmer.
he also gives tips on how to avoid certian attacks.

i personally found myself eating full RF within 2 dodges because apprently dodge doesn’t actually dodge anything anymore
on other occasion my dodge got interrupted, yes interruped… my thief got sent flying on the ground while mid of dodge
add to that steal bugs that consistenly either interrupt HS or port me to random location and don’t proc anything (so much for try to daze ranger with steal)
meanwhile ranger can spam their backstab version from 1500 range while i am busy dealing with bugs… i can see why there are so many complains at this point
P.S. don’t blame it on lag, i never had such consistent issues pre patch

more defensive options outside of stealth -> thieves won’t rely on stealth -> less stealth spam that everyone complains about
more dmg options besides backstab -> thieves will rely less on stealth -> less QQ about stealth
thieves played non stealth build relying on evades (because franky there is NOTHING ELSE besides stealth or evade for defensives) -> people complained about not being able to hit thieves
anet decided to go lazy way and simply nerfed everything thieves had w/o bothering to adress any bugs and issues that been plaguing the class since launch (this patch is particually the worst due to still not fixed steal bug) and even think about giving thieves any alternatives
creativity is definitely not strengh of the balancing team

At this point, i am pretty sure the balance is based on statistics (class/build popularity etc.) not actual risk/reward ratios or just common sense how we understand it. So, asking top players is actually pointless seeing how Anet balancing politics are completely different apprently.
The only thing we as players can do is stop playing weak classes/builds and play broken OP classes to manipulate those statistics.
That is purely my opinion though based on all patches for past year.
I am not even quite sure why this forum section exists even, given how many actually good suggestions and how many concerns were posted here and how none of that got ever adressed. This forum section is probably same as mothership “Skyhammer” thread that gets completely ignored but serves as trash can for all skyhammer posts.

Anet logic: something is very weak so let’s make it op and include some hardcounter.
Thus by that logic following needs to happen to death blossom: spell now applies death of master venom.
Death of master venom: for 6 sec all pets stop buffing allies and attack their master instead of target (in case pet has attacks), after 6 sec all pets die (that includes turrets, clones, banners, spirits etc.).
I am sure it would introduce just as much fun and healthy gameplay to pvp like torment on AA, engi googles and co. do.

I wvs testing it and it seemed to always work only if my HS was within the 900 steal range, where previously, you could HS into steal range.
as for porting back on steal, this bug IS NOT exclusive to HS+steal, this has happened to me many times prepatch on multiple weaponsets.
tl;dr: The combo works within 900 range, the max range of this combo has been reduced by the range of HS
The BP+HS + steal port back bug is 100% reproducable though…. meaning it happens every time now.

considering that most thieves were using trickery, go figure

As far as nerfs/buffs go, i welcome high skill floor/cap yada yada…. as long as it is the same for every class.
I think anyone would agree that currently the skill floor/cap is waaaay too disproportional for other classes. It doesn’t do well for the game when 1 class has waaay too high skill floor and other don’t, same goes for skill cap.
When you need to invest less effort into same effect, at the end you will choose whatever is more efficient even if it is boring (see champ farms). Patches like this will cause some players get frustrated and quit game, many players will probably flock to other, more “efficient” classes. However the issue here is the same as with playing game with cheats/godmode on: eventually you get bored and quit game.
I know i am biased about thieves since i love the class, but i do think that the more disparity between class efficiency Anet introduced via patches like 9/9/2014 the more players will get bored and quit game.
I am sure, even most biased thief player out here doesn’t actually want thieves to be OP, they want big pvp/wvw community to play with/against. I find this patch rather contra productive in this sense.

If you go traveler runes you will need crit chance from somewhere so probably should consider to make zerker armor, at least most of the pieces. 50% crit chance is good number, below that feels like huge dmg loss.
Ogre runes have good stats but i am personally not big fan of those because dog gives out your position and it is probably last thing you want in wvw.

Traveler and ogre runes are not only runes you can use, i been using runes of the eagle for example. But really it is a personal choice thing. Every rune set opens posibility for other armor stats other than zerker.

Btw, already running 06206 d/p because everyone and their mother is condi nowdays and mug/2 dodges not gonna save me vs spammable condi bombs flying around/covering entire ground; i get poison from dagger AA so w/e. Would only take mug if i had some reliable condi removal on team atm.
From d/p perspective, sleight of hand is still pretty much a must in tpvp, imo, due to stab rez and stab stomps alone so not much room to play with around really.
Can’t say much for S/D, never liked the set no matter how many times i tried it. I feel like the gameplay/build for s/d will stay about same.
Everything else is still a joke at any decent level of pvp. Anything works in wvw/pve.
If you really are scared about conditions, you should try 60206, with either Revealed Training or the buffed Panic strike.
Your proposed build is really bad, Mug is an extremely good trait both for damage AND survivability.
I tried 60206, reasons why i didn’t like it are:
- it brough my thief under 50% crit chance so can say good bye to all the crit procs like fire/air etc., i prefer using those atm, but it is personal preference
- i really missed crit on backstab and it actually hurt a lot in many cases because pressure was simply not there due to non crit bs, funny enough, when 60206 bs did crit it did about same dmg (+-20 dmg) as hidden killer build
- also that build lacks practiced tolerance which is roughly 2k HP, given mug can heal you for as much but if you initially take a lot of dmg and get downed, 2k heal won’t save you there
I never claimed that 06206 is build to go, everyone builds to their likings. I simply said that
- mug not gonna save me vs condi bombs
- sleight of hand is still way too good trait in tpvp to sacrifice it for something else
I like crit tree over power tree because
- you don’t have to rely on poison
- you have reliable source of crit
- you can make use of all crit procs sigils have to offer
So i went with 06206 which is less reliant on target/own team and more self sufficient.
I can see 60206 working well in some compositions but it is too volatile for my taste and i feel like it would struggle too much vs targets with passive/lot of condi removal.

As someone said before, missing bs for thief means most of their dmg is gone. The proposed change would just render any dagger thief useless so the natural thing that would happen is buff to every other dagger spell (which would be heartseeker, shadow shot, death blossom etc.). I don’t think you would want buffs to neither HS or SS as those don’t even have stealth requirement and still can be spammed to certain extend unlike bs.
Also, as mentioned before, warriors are not that dependent on F1 skill and some of them can’t even miss (sup combustive shot). Warriors also can live through mistakes thanks to their huge survival ability.
The poster above said, thief should kite for 10 sec, shouldn’t be a problem. The joke is, 10 sec in pvp is huge, thieves don’t any real tools of survival in open unless they play perma evade which is not even dagger MH build so completely irrelevant. Add to that huge nerf to BP and still rather useless CnD vs any decent opponent, you have a free loot bag.
Next patch already gonna force remaining d/x thieves into s/d build, i am not sure what you people are trying to accomplish here. Delete the class?

When thieves get 30K HP, 600 HP regen, will be able to hit for 12k while building full tank, having stability, invul, multiple stun breakers, massive aoe that is twice the size of capture point…. then ya sure, let’s add reveal on block etc.
I play warrior, thief, mesmer and necro and frankly warriors is most faceroll and forgiving class i ever played. In fact, i am glad about adrenalin change because it will finally make sense. When i started to play warrior i actually was surprised that my adrenalin wouldn’t go away when i missed the skill.
Also, thieves already invest 9 initiative into backstab, wheither they land it or not. It is gone. Also, to make backstab do any dmg (which will be still lower than evicerate BTW) thieves have to go pretty glassy and have to be behind the target. Any half decent person will know how to protect their back from backstab.

To be fair, warrior IS easy to play and waaay more forgiving than thief… comming from personal experience (playing hambow or any variation of GS/sword/wh/shield/LB war and d/p trickery thief).
I think the issue is not even backstab or eviscerate dmg, it is the fact that war is way tankier than thief but does comparable dmg. Add celestial, might stacking, full defensive build on war, and you will still see them do more or same dmg as backstab while being extremely tanky at this point + they don’t have positional requirement like backstab does.
Thieves can’t do the same. If thief goes full celestial + might runes/int sigil and full defensive trees he won’t do junk for dmg and will still flip over really fast.
If max amount of might stacks was nerfed in pvp at least and celestial was never added it wouldn’t be so bad imo. I am glad they finally adressed burst skill actually draining adrenalin on use. I found it pretty silly and unintuitive when burst skill didn’t drain adrenalin when you missed or it got dodged (won’t really affect hambow tho lol).
On last note, this game always suffered from same issue: it is possible for some classes to build full tank and do as much dmg as glass cannons. In any classical MMORPG, if it ever happend, those builds would get nerfed pretty fast because frankly why run high risk glass build when you can run tank and do same dmg. It just results in players abaddoning classes/builds that can’t do it.
Idk why it is still the thing in GW2. The conquest mode in GW2 also enforces it too.

lol @ people saying turrets do no dmg, rocket launcher alone hits for 3k.. how many dodges do you need to avoid rocket launcher AA alone…eh?
the issue with turrets is:
- they stay too long, it is not like thief guild or crate that you can wait out
- turrets don’t get destroyed when engis goes somewhere else… meaning he can defend point or support his teammates when he is not even there
- turrets have waaay too long range (longer than some classes) so literary only counters are either snipe them with meteor shower or go invul+ stabs and spam aoe (guards, wars)… all other classes don’t even need to try
- turrets are immune to crits, condis and CCs and are waaaaaayyyyyyyy too tanky, i think rocket launcher effectively has around 30k HP at least… you can at least blind/fear etc. ranger or necro pets, you can’t do same with turrets… if you play a class that relies on crits/condis/CC, you are in a losing fight
I think 2 things need to happen
- turrets should be affected by condis and crits at least in pvp
- if engi is too far from his turrets (walks to other point) his turrets get destroyed
I know engis will flame me and what not, but let’t face it it would be really broken if i could summon like 10 thieves that never disappear, would be immune to crits/condi/CC and stay on other points as i want them to.
Speaking of which, hey Anet devs, since you guys apprently (looking at the patches) think that army of AI is definition of fun~ and healthy~ pvp, why don’t you allow other classes like thieves, warriors etc. spawn armies of persistet pets and rename GW into Pokemon Wars? Let us all sit afk somewhere and watch our pets battles! I am sure this would be something you would be very proud of, just like Skyhammer!
P.S. almost forgot, the reflect on turrets was last thing this game needed :/

Pretty sure stealth bug in WoW (when stealth randomly won’t work and people see you across the map) been there for years as well. Seems like one of those not easily reproductable bugs.
What annoys me more is that another teleport bug that doesn’t actually teleport you anywhere due to some uneven ground or stairs/bridges is still not fixed even though it is easy to reproduce. I know pathing programming isn’t exactly cake but GW2 gotta be only game i ever played suffering from this bug so really i think there is solution to it just not on priority list :/

Gear didn’t really change so much, there is riny difference between exotic and ascended. The main reason why you get his so hard is probably the actual stats from gear and traits you chose. Look up decent zerg buillds.

I am quiting if mesmer torment on AA goes live which supposed to adress mesmer scepter issues while every single issue thieves have wasn’t adressed at all. The only thing Anet ever did is throwing nerf after nerf at class.

On serious note, i really hope torment on AA doesn’t go live. Necros are supposed to be condi masters and with that change mesmers somehow have way better uptime and 0 costs on torment than necros. What a joke.

not really considering that 10% HP is less than 1k HP on thief + ICD would make sure you don’t get it too often

I looked at gem store, saw it, thought “yay, it’s finally here”; then read description… “oh hell no… i will stay with my MSK”…
Absolute gold sink, doesn’t pay off ever unlike amazing watchwork or any unlimited gathering tools for example. I am sure that only people who bought it didn’t read description or bought it on accident.
