OK OP, in which category this falls?

Ranked, sapphire/ruby range, 4 people on my team never left mid (besides when they died), even if there was only 1 enemy there and regardless how much i asked for help at home.
I spent entire match in 1v2, 1v3 situations trying to defend our home, recapping far/our home etc. Thankfully enemy team was just as bad and i could solo their DHs/thief etc.

I don’t doubt you’re good, and, while I don’t claim to be amazing, I also don’t like that the system puts people who know what they’re doing with people that don’t. It’s really frustrating and takes a lot of the point out of having divisions. My post is just to point out that a lot of the hate that’s being spread in the teamchat during games is not helpful, and that it, interestingly, seems to be coming from a kind of defense mechanism. In other words, people seem to be insisting, game after game, that their losses are only their teammates’ fault, without wanting to come to terms with the much less satisfying thought that in fact the matchmaking is designed to keep you from winning too much. It is as if people need to create a story to give a logic to a much more systematic problem, as a substitute for simply trying to make the best of their own situation.

I am thus suggesting that, regardless of how frustrated we may be, that we stop name-calling and blaming others, since each game is made specifically to match bad players with good players. If everyone was supposed to be at the same level, then those sorts of complaints would be significantly more justified. But as it stands now, it would be much more helpful to everyone if we all spent our energy trying to help people out who don’t know how to play as well.

Well, i am sry (or am i?), i spent half match begging them to help me – 0 reaction. So yes, eventually i became mad and yelled at team WHY THE HELL THEY DON’T EVER LOOK AT MAP OR HELP TO DEFEND HOME!!!!

Stealing bosses is a great mechanic that requires capitalizing on someone’s mistake, map awareness, not to mention very rewarding to pull off, where you essentially gamble your time.

Any other mechanic would just dumb it down to the point where the first person to blindly rush the NPC is heavily favoured, they’d hardly have to think about getting stopped/killed or stolen as long as they put a bunch of conditions up. It’s really fine as is.

Or you could take 51% health from the NPC and then peel. Then the enemy rolls up and kills the NPC and you get the points. That sounds fair…

They wouldn’t try to kill it………

Here’s a scenario:

Thief takes 51% from NPC, then goes stealth and runs to far point, you roll up and don’t see anyone at NPC so you finish killing it while thief caps far AND gets points for your creature kill….

Are you SURE you would know not to kill it?

Look at HP bar…..

OK. Maybe you would have enough awareness, BUT have you seen the stupid kitten people do in matches XD

Pro league players in legend don’t make such mistakes…

So when you had 4 teammates camping on mid for the whole match…
those are the people i’m talking about.

The point i’m trying to make is changing the mechanic to most damage gets the points would be worse

And my point is: the mechanics are fine as they are and don’t need any change.

Resistance Equivalent to Protection

Condition damage is already too strong in this game. If you want to nerf resistance, then condition damage needs to be nerfed first.

People keep saying this, yet there’s only really two condi builds in the current meta and four power reliant builds. Signet Nec always was and always will be a hybrid build unlike the now dead corruption build.

What? Last time i checked wars, necros, thieves and mes played condi~

Shadowstep in CnD is needed that’s why CnD->Steal works very well. That combination should be in CnD. Then again, that’s just a lame idea because what I really want is a completely 5 different skills exclusive for D/D (and P/P) using the Dual-Wield mechanic.

That would make s/d way too broken. They should maybe give cnd blind.

Massive Bleed on Backstab?

My current balance ideas are:

I’d change backstab to either an unblockable attack that cannot crit or an attack that is unblockable but cannot crit while a person is blocking.

I’d change dancing dagger to include poison. This opens up a method for poison access without having to switch to SB, which is the only source of poison unless a thief is traited.

I would also change the duration of the poison field on SB to be longer. This could be adjusted with a slightly smaller radius for the purposes of balance. Either way, the field needs to last long enough to give more opportunities for combos in the field.

I would also suggest changing the ICD after a missed stealth attack to 0.5 seconds. One second feels clunky on thief and impacts certain builds, like S/X, more than builds like P/D where it doesn’t really effect most fights. Even 0.75 seconds would improve the situation significantly.

I would also restore the share radius of venomshare to at least 300. Alternatively I would increase the range to 600 and decrease the total share targets to 3. This would be more consistent in terms of the number of people receiving venoms and therefore easier to balance around.

I would remove some of the bleed on Death Blossom and add bleed to Heartseeker. More bleed stacks would be applied depending on the HP of the target when hit, as with the damage scaling.

I’d remove some of the damage on Shadowshot while increasing the damage on backstab.

I’d make the trickery initiative pool increase baseline. I would replace this trait with an increase in initiative regeneration. This makes skills’ initiative use easier to balance around. It also opens up other trait lines for people to use.

Careful what you ask for, knowing devs they will just flat out nerf dmg across all weapon sets w/o any compensation.

I actually played a match against 4 thieves and a necro on capricorn. That team won. The 4 thieves were a team believe it or not and quite good, and while I being a warrior could handle them the rest of my team could not. My team was dying everywhere lol.

So, with class stacking, the skill of the people on each team still counts to some degree.

I don’t even see many DH’s running with longbow anymore. Not to mention deflecting shot has a pretty obvious and slow projectile that you can either dodge or strafe away from.

Yeah, same issue here. Daze, stun, basi, any CC really or if you down somebody – their body keeps moving to random direction and then rubberband back. Really annoying if you actually try to land backstab or cleave/stomp body.

Combine it with idiotic 1 sec CD on backstab change and you want to punch kittens.

Hmm… No1 knows for sure then. The priority aside, would it be possible to interrupt with a dazing/damaging skill against stab (When stripping it). -> You use your attack -> sigil procs -> daze procs
Or is it in other order?

I can steal stab and daze/stun as thief at the same time. Not sure how it would work for other classes or sigils.

Fun fact, this wouldn’t be issue on first place, if thieves weren’t nerfed to the helpless pet status on purpose and could actually hold their ground w/o heavily relying on team to do well.
Triple necro is fine, triple guard is fine, triple engi is actually broken as hell, triple thief – you better be 10 times better than enemy team if you want to win.

Either matchmaking or balance team fail, your pick.

But what about the perma fury/might/swiftness/stab-ability up time? Some warriors are smart and use them to cover the resistance.

You think devs care? They didn’t care that the game is flooded with aoe CC, blocks, invuls, immunities etc. , when they nerfed stealth spells. The only time this class gets attention is when some average Joe cries rivers on wvw or pvp forums for thief nerfs. We are the scapegoat for them to please masses.

The fact that i got constantly harassed all season 1 for playing thief and customer support totally ignored my reports (saw same people in matches every day) says it all.

I have no idea why resistance is the last boon to be stolen on the priority list but it makes warrior immortal right now vs thief as we can’t poison them to reduce their healing.

you supposed to “skillfully” wait out until war has only resistance up and the steal it :/

- i think current initial placement based on division of last season is Ok actually
- artificial floors need to go: if you lose 3 matches in a row at 0 pts -> lose tier; if you lose 5 matches in a row at 0 pts -> lose division
- WTB BETTER REWARDS IN LEGEND so people don’t just stop pvp after they reached the division (like me ._. )

My thief has 6 legendaries, over 5.8k hours (a lot is from afking, but you get the idea), 4 FULL sets of ascended armours, 4 sets of ascended trinkets, an extra 10 ascended weapons, 160 slot bag, over 25.5k AP.

Here’s the kicker though: I don’t play my thief anymore. I have barely played my thief since sPvP Season 1. I usually end up playing my Ele, Rev, Necro, War, Ranger, or Mes in that order – MOSTLY Ele and Rev.

Thief is a kitten class and the devs don’t know how to fix it. They have proven time and time again that they don’t know what to do with the class, besides catering to the whining children in these forums.

If you truly want them to pay more attention to this kitten of a class and do something about it, show them in metrics…aka…stop logging into your thief characters; better yet, move all the important items over and delete the character. That will show up in their metrics (which they give a lot more kitten about).

Pretty sure it would just help them to achieve their goal: reduce amount of active thieves in game. I think it was made pretty clear when HoT came out.

Remember when a thief going stealth filled a player with dread especially if you were another thief? I actually look forward to seeing a thief land Backstab now cause I know they are probably going to eat a bigger shot or get completely loaded up with condi.

Class has been gutted and sadly some “fixes” offered by a few players on this forum seem to revolve around D/P nerfs or arguments about a weapon set becoming too powerful if ANet were to roll back some changes.

Remember when as thief your role was to go far and win it. We actually were a threat in 1v1

They could write this to pop up every time anyone clicks on the pvp or wvw button: We don’t want you to play this mode!!

one thing they could implement in the game and force new players to do is idk a tutorial that explains things, but meh.

From what I’ve seen I’d have to agree with the devs though….

Swap Revealed Training with Leeching Venoms

Just delete Revealed Training. Nobody wants it when it was in GM and nobody wants it now that it’s in Master — Panic Strike is obviously more valuable for that slot. Then you can put Leeching in its former spot. Revealed is a complete opposite of stealth, thus it doesn’t belong in SA.

You forget majority of thieves…. actually pve and they probably won’t welcome such change.

The Devs can give the Thief 10 stacks of might for 5s after a stealth attack and call it Shadow Predator trait or something. This way it benefits both types of damage (power and condition) and not just power, then you can put that in Shadow Arts. I can assure you, there are so much of other buffs in PvE (easy Bloodlust +250 charge) that +200 power will not be missed.

I would welcome it.

1. they have like 1 person playing thief and all she does is RPing in main cities, i honestly think devs entire thief experience is based on letting bot spamming attacks on golems

2. they needed to sell HoT, to do so they had to make rev mandatory – thieves would compete for same job so they had to effectively delete the class to promote sales.
(I am still very salty about what happened in season 1: worst class in every single game mode, nobody wanted to play with me, even my “friends”, got harassed and flamed in every match for just playing the class, customer support never done anything despite all the reports).

3. to counter thief mechanics you need to be able to play mind games, time your spells, stealth is generally not always fun thing to deal with when you are new/bad at this game – your average Joe (which is majority of players) can’t/doesn’t want to deal with slippery mechanics so he runs to forums/reddit and QQs until devs add changes to please them without actually given a flying kitten about thief players (recent patch is just another example for it).

It has been like this since launch pretty much and it got worse and worse every year.

Idea of courtyard was good, implementation was bad:
- map too small and filled with too much crap → camera is constantly blocked by random plants, walls, rocks etc.
- spawn camp is a thing
- heavily favors aoe spam

I do not support the proposed numbers but i agree with OP generally. Why should higher MMR player be forced to carry lower MMR players vs potentially better players and gain as much as people that he carried. Same goes for low MMR players, they get rewarded for literary being carried.
This results (like in every season so far) in those few bad players actually landing in divisions where they don’t belong and being stuck there due to artificial floors (can’t lose division). And better players having absolutely horrendous experience across all divisions. This is just wrong.
