Siege weapons simply do too much damage to players. It’s stupid and there is no counter (1 useless trait line for a 5% reduction)
You give ppl the possibility to do more damage, and learn more siege skills, please give them also the possibility do avoid damage and counter those skills.
Siege bunker line is stupid atm.

@swinsk.6410: even in wvw you don’t need to stealth to kill a guardian. I do stealth, btw, but you can do it even without backstabs. S/D works great too.
Usually against guardians I switch between S/D and D/D to rip boons, daze him with the sword, then daze him with stolen ability then switch to d/d to burst him down…
Sometime s/d is enough though

We run 3-5 men … sometimes 7-8 during prime(blob) time
Sometime we run with friends from other guilds.
It will be really nice, I think, if all small groups will name a border every day, here on the forum, maybe in the match-up section and go there to do their stuff …
There are few guilds with that play style and they are usually spread between 4 different borders, with small to no chance to fight…
Maybe commanders will avoid that border and leave it to small groups, maybe not, but I think it’s the community that has to start kill the blob, and perhaps ANet will follow, incentiving it.
What do you think about that?
This is World vs. World warfare in which, sorta like real life, siege warfare is common.
Siege is here to stay and I welcome it and all the abilities that come along with it.

Remember that good thieves will stealth every 3-4s.
I think good thieves stealth when they need to.
Doing it as part of a “rotation” is just useless and make you more predictable.
anyway the best way to learn how to counter thieves is to fight thieves …. a lot.
Try to group a thief that has just killed you and ask him if he wants to do some duels.
If he’s not a jerk he will accept and you will have your chance to practice. Doing that, try to change you strategy/weapon set.
i want siege bunker upgrade 5% damage reduction is ridiculous make it a 10 point line with a “protect you and your friends from siege damage for 30 seconds” final skill.
Hi, guardians that give me problems are the one with a great burst … i don’t really know their build, just saying.
GS5 will chain even not visible targets . it’s a must when you see the house popping (shadow refuge) to pull thief off.
You have to pay attention at the smoke field and use something into it. staff’s wall is great to knock down the thief and make it waste initiative and stay visible.
remember that thieves steal from you a 4s daze, so don’t wait too much to use your healing skill and pay attention when you are out of stun breakers.

We were around 10 at this point, can’t eactly remember. At our first push into the camp I think we were more, we took out a ballista and then more gandarans kicked in (I don’t think it was some other group than your guild). After we respawned, you already had another ballista and more then enough ppl there
we were 9 (but with buffed champ) at your first inc and I counted almost 3 groups.
immediately after that another 10-15ppl of another guild came and we killed them
then your second try, meanwhile 3 or 4 gandarans arrived.
we werent outmanning you.
Maybe next time don’t build ballista when you outman us anyway >.<

The thief is not the only profession that can kill multiple opponents. And not every thief can… it’s just a matter of skill.
1v1 duel are fought ‘till downed state… obviously i use SR if i need it, but i won’t run away to exit combat.
while roaming it’s different. it happens that i run to reset a fight and come back to restart it, usually it’s in 1v2 or 1v3 or if i’m on cooldown after a fight and someone arrives.
It’s the same as a warrior whirlwind+rush + savage leap + bull’s charge or an ele rtl+teleport.
you have skills and you use them defensively to stay alive if needed.
i think that even in duels you dodge… aren’t you ashamed of it ? you should stand still and take your damage as a real man. /sarcasm

No other profession has this kind of advantage over other players. No other profession can solo groups of players like this. It needs a very heavy nerf.

Pistol 5 and Heartseeker leapfinisher. I also learned that i maybe can force the thief to hit me if i go in the circle of the blind or at least near enough to get hit with the heartseeker.
As for the 5 vs 1. I didn´t knew anyone who was in the jp at that time. It was more everybody was alone in there. There was no fighting going on in there, just a few single ones and the thieves.
Well sure was a frustrating evening for me and a few others.
My opinion didn´t change on this topic. The stealth mechanic as it stands now in the game is broken.
It´s just plain frustrating fighting a thief, bring him almost down and then he disapears. A few seconds later, not enough time to get back my health, he opens again.
Well most of the time i survive this because i run a bunker build in wvw but it´s still frustrating because i know i can´t kill him. I simply have not enough burst and cc in my build to do so.

The problem is, you are complaining about how the class was tought.
Thief’s concept is “hit and run”, in and out of combat, and that’s exactly what those 2 thieves were doing.
Backstab, evade, stealth, backstab, evade, stealth… d/p is a cheesy build and against unexperienced opponents it’s very effective but there are downsides: the combo is really initative consuming and a CC in the right moment can be the death of the thief.
I’m not saying it’s easy to counter, i’m just saying it is counterable.
Daze/stun/knockback/knockdown/fear the thief between black powder and heartseeker or use a stealth disruptor trap.

Anet gives you traps to counter stealth but you don’t want to use ‘em because they cost too much.
You can’t consider a l2p issue because you are pro and skilled and it doesn’t matter if the same thief that kills both you and your pro and skilled friend after that die against someone else in a fair 1vs1…

I think your main problem is you have no idea how thief works, and you need to learn how it works if you want to fight them. I came to this conclusion by you saying that sword/pistol thieves were permastealthed. S/P Thief doesnt have perma stealth, it doesnt even come reasonably close. L2P applies here.

every build has mostly 1 damage skill. the rest are situational utility.
the damage skill is situational …
initiative is good. you have to know when and why use it and you have to know if you’ll need it later or if you can burn it all now
it gives us a lot of freedom and makes our gameplay more funny than a system based on forced cooldown and skill rotation.

also WvW lags a lot when they are preparing the new build …. obviously there are some background processes that cause skill lag.
Doing damage from +300 range more is a big deal .
Are you really saying you used CB to 1200 range to do damage ?
The arrow is so slow that even if you don’t want you’ll avoid it… The only way to use it at maximum range and actually hit someone is during siege where the nerf is quite noticeable…
But when an enemy zerg is charging +300 range on a non-spammable skill is nothing…

two minutes later we are kicked out from www because you have to nerf Jormag’s healing skill.
Every time you put in some update to the game (living story) we have a ton of problems and small patches that break out our online gaming experience.
And in Europe it’s almost prime time when you do it.
So please, choose one of the followings:
- don’t increase game update frequency
- put in only clean code, and take garbage away before updating the game
- separate WvW from PvE content.
- find a way to not force disconnections (Aion did some sort of silent updates, it i think)

this is a suggestion to make WvW more competitive and reduce zerg.
Make some sort of warband, let’s say a 20 ppl group.
The warband has a tag (unique and shared between all members)
When 2 warbands start a fight every member takes a sort of “in combat with” status that makes him immune to damage from “untagged” sources, leaving it open to the 3rd server…
So 10ppl warband from server A inc a 15 ppl warband from server B … players become tagged. A second warband of 20ppl from server A arrives and start to attack server B but "immune… immune… immune… " cause they are tagged (same goes form B to A)
If a warband from server C join the fight, every warband can hit the other 2, so A can hit B and C and so on… but only 1 at a time for each server.
“in combat with” tag will remain until at least 1 player is in combat, to reset it every member of the warband has to go out of combat.
What do you think ?
Obviously numbers can be tweaked but we will no more see 100 vs 90 vs 120 lagfest fights….

There’s no reason a thief shouldn’t be able to operate at range. Have you seriously never seen thief/assassin characters killing from a distance with crossbows, etc.? It’s for this reason that I always thought WoW’s concept of the rogue was terrible.
That said, I’m not one of those people that’s furious about the Cluster Bomb nerf; the shortbow is still very usable, although I do think the way all the ricochet-type skills are designed leaves a little to be desired. I’m much more concerned with the state of MH Pistol.
Sorry but we can operate at range … the fact the our melee dps is much better than ranged one doesn’t imply you can’t go ranged.
2 of the 4 weapons we can use are ranged, we have a lot of 900 range skills, single target or aoe as we prefer.
As it should be, ranged is weaker than melee, since it keep you safer.
There are other professions stronger ? Yes, and that’s not a problem …
General request to all three servers: if you see a 1vs1 going on, please don’t interfere with it

And to extend that; if you see two guilds going at it, and you’re a guild group, let them be (or watch or ask if they need help). Unless they’re two enemy guilds, of course, at which point; badges badges badges badges badges mushroom mushroom.

I don’t hate the game, I hate devs for having such dumb ideas.
And this is stupid also because their incentive to zergs bring them lots of problems with crashes and skill lag etc etc…
make small scale group the best way to earn points and ranks and the zerg will automatically split up and skill lag will be only a bad memory
Cluster bomb was ugly before and nothing changed … it’s good only for close combat… a full range cluster bomb takes years to land and it’s almost useless …
If you want to go ranged just P/P – SB with a ini regen build.
you have 2 weapon sets, don’t forget it.

In my opinion, this is a sign of poorly designed mechanic.
It is getting very close to the point where you need stability in order to finish someone in the downed state. It doesn’t matter so much in zergs (which has it’s own set of downed state problems). It is more a factor in small group play. If anyone has CC off cooldown, you won’t get the spike.
And yes yes, I know, just trait stability. But when the game design dictates you must trait a certain way just to do something fundamental like kill someome when you’ve got them down, then that is a problem.
In a small group, stomps must be coordinated (as everything else), so you should call it when you can do it. If you don’t have stability and your ele has mist form he will perform the stomp, not you.
In a small group when you take down 1 opponent it’s better to AoE him and try to kill ressers.
Anyway, if they’ll get rid of downed state, I won’t cry for it….

indeed there isn’t the classic trinity, forcing ppl to take specific classes in a group to be competitive.
btw there are specific roles and there can be organization between players.
if ppl play as a group and if they make their build for the group the results can be amazing, and that can be achieved using combos (so the interaction of more players – not just the healer).
when they will raise, or remove, aoe target limit it will be even better.
i think that if you change your build to have more ini regen you can backstab more and do more damage…
well by all means please share your other solutions! if nothing else it may give other readers some ideas to something they would prefer
It’s D/D S/D for soloing, and if in group or in a large fight i’ll put SB instead of S/D.

wvw: don’t push too much, don’t wait the very last second to use your teleport/stealth and go away and you will not die too much.
learn when to attack and when to retreat and you’ll be fine.
How flipping camps or kill guards can be a main goal ?
It obviously is just a way to say “hey, we are here… come!”
Too bad there is no way to know how many ppl are attacking a camp, if it’s just 1 or a party or 3 parties…
If a camp/tower/keep is claimed by a guild the guild must receive a message of “xx enemies are attacking your camp/tower/keep”.
If I want to do PvE I’ll go PvE … WvW should be something different, I think.
Roaming is done to find other ppl … if we take a camp it’s done in the hope someone will come to take it back…
Lots of times we go hit the doors just to make the swords appear and make some ppl to come …
I personally don’t care if my server wins or loses… I just want to kill ppl.
