But what I see tends to strike me more as “NEVER FORGIVE, NEVER FORGET, ALL CHARR WILL AND ALWAYS BEEN EVIL BEASTS!”

So much this. Its not really a problem in the lore, but when it carries over to their actions and how people treat others(in a video game)? then its a problem, for me at least.

And again everyone misses that fact that its been 250 years, thats a long time for a race to change, and the Charr have changed. Majorly too.

I’ve always been fascinated by the RP chat I’ve seen. I wanted to join in but didn’t want to bother them, so I’ll say something like “Zerina couldn’t help but overhear the conversation, but decided it was none of her business and moved along.”

Ive seen that!!! Really though, if you want to RP sometime poke me!

meanwhile here i sit enjoying what i see! I have 12 characters, 10 80s and 2 characters being leveled. I have one character with 100% map exploration, one with 92% and the rest are 55% and below, lowest is 1%. Heres the thing though, my primary activities are RPing, Dungeons(My main) And mapping when i get bored. I Seldom PVP but then again im not affected there at all. And i WVW Sometimes when i can, and then again there are Skill challenges in those maps too.

none of my non grandfathered characters have more than the traits needed for their builds unlocked.

The other thing though, i only use 2 or 3 builds per character, under the new system i will still have enough HP to use those same builds.

I want more outfits! I love them, and i love more options to customize! But i want to be able to earn my armor in the game! Not through the gemstore!

Why is the RP crowd so closed off?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Dante.1763

Dante.1763

Honestly, that’s a silly excuse to seem so closed off and cliquish.
These things happen in quite literally every MMO ever. Trolls will be trolls. And many games do not support RP.
But those communities even do not close off themselves to /other rpers/.
Things like that kill off RP communities more so than the trolls that you can ignore. :/

Except, the RP community has always been small in this game from what i gather. Trolls kill off the RP community, not the closed nature of it. Our guild is constantly growing, we get 1-2 new members every couple weeks. Of course we only take people over 18 and we have strict rules too. So no us being closed off isnt a bad thing, we are open to anyone who wants to RP, so long as the follow the rules presented and dont respond to trolls. I know of at least 10 RP guilds in game, that i have seen and interacted with, and every few weeks a few new ones pop up.

as for closing ourselves to other RPrs, i havent honestly seen that, unless the person tries to hijack our current RP. Which has happened before. If other Rprs where maybe considerate to ask before walking up and intruding it wouldnt happen(Not that it does often, ive only had it happen once). A few days ago i was RPing out a more emotional part of my characters story and somebody just waltzed in, right as i was doing it and started talking over me, and then they got mad when i asked them to leave, because they intruded and started talking over me. I have been very leery of other players now because of that. But that was one instance, one out of my 4 months of RPing.

Gems from real money too expensive

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Dante.1763

And I prefer buy to play games like GW2. Because I can budget out and justify an initial payment. Depending on sub price I may not be able to budget it. And I can’t justify it for myself. I sometimes take breaks from games and paying a sub would make me feel guilty for taking a break, even if the break would cause me to play the game for longer than if I hadn’t taken the break. And I can’t afford a sub unless it’s like $3 a month.

And I wonder how many GW2 players are in the same boat as me. Playing this game because it doesn’t have a sub and would be forced to stop playing it if they added a sub. Even those players who would be willing to pay a sub if they could afford it.

And would a sub bring in the money that those who leave the game due to it being a sub or reduce their gem purchases drastically?

I am in the same boat as you. If this game ever got a sub i would stop playing. because i take long breaks between play times, sometimes up to six months. But when i play i buy stuff because i like supporting the game when im playing.

I disagree. While Anet intended WvW to be a PvE game mode. WvW has taken on a life of its own. Having its own politics, its own community, its own 3rdparty forums, its own internally managed competitions that you cant find anywhere else in game, and its own salty attitude.

As a matter of fact, most WvW people are looking for a release from the strictly PvE players that ruin WvW server populations.

Cant say i blame them I remember how badly we PVE players wanted to not have to explore WVW. But at the moment Anet sees WVW as a PVE zone. I would love to see it become its own entirely separate game mode with its own unique rewards, and separate progression. Which is why i said give them at least 65 HP.

Should I have to “play pve” to unlock my traits in dungeons? Open world pve is boring after the first time or two. Right now, I can unlock all traits/skills playing dungeons. Or do dungeons not count too?

Dungeons are not a separate game mode, they are just instanced PVE in this game, sorry(Except for fractals, but thats elite pve to most people). I do love me some dungeons, but they count as PVE too.

Dante.1763

ugh, im a pve exclusive player pretty much? I have 1 of every class so I can step in and do any possible dungeon/fractal role my team needs.

This is bigger than just lost gold/sp. This is about a large design philosophy shift. Previously, players could play however they wanted to earn gold and skill points. They could then use that to buy traits/skills. Now players are forced to do open world pve to become better at other game modes. So do you just prefer everyone is forced to play game modes they don’t enjoy? I prefer the “play how you want” philosophy.

PVP is not affected at all, so they dont count, and they should have to play their character in PVE to use stuff in PVE. If they want to PVP then they can PVP with everything fully unlocked already.

WVW IS PVE. Anet has stated that many times, and so yes it makes sense to them that they want you to play both.

Now i agree that WVW should have at least enough hero challenges in WVW to get all 65 HP and unlock everything(That they have now). But after that, they will have to step foot in PVE to get more HP. My opinion of course, and im sure it wont be popular. I too am a pve exclusive player and all my characters, all 12 of them have at least 40 Skill points by the time they get to 80. The exception to that is my engineer, who i leveled via skill tomes. So someday ill run her through to get those 65 HP, someday.

Think of it like an item in Diablo with the reduced level requirement mod.

Never..played Diablo…But im going to assume that it lowers the level required to equip said item?

However that makes me wonder if in the future level 80 backpacks from here on out will have stats equal to those same level 78 ones.

As for the leveling item bit, okay maybe, but is a level 78 leveling item needed? Honest question.

Re: Dwayna avatar outfit on male characters

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Dante.1763

Why would you want to wear a human god themed outfit on your charrs for RP purposes?

Aw different reasons, one being that its just an outfit/armor appearence, i mean it look nice..minus that chest piece… But my Priory charr is willing to use powerful artifacts of various different things, Balthazaar etc, doesnt ever pray to, or believe in the gods, but still they have strong magical properties(is a ranger, will be a druid) that can be used for her own purposes. But this one? its ugly, downright ugly(At least on Charr, and IMO).

I was actually considering making a human character when i saw this thing..but changed my mind, i got bored of playing a human in GW1 for 7 years(actively) and just cant bring myself to play another one, so it just wont get bought. Shame because this is one of those outfits that the female version would actually look way better on charr, both male and female. It doesnt have the massive problems of some of the other outfits that they have done(See imperial and the Anise one), and really there wasnt a reason for them not to give them the female version. It shows a little bit of their belly is all.

About the Glory currency, I saw a post above suggesting it and I had thoughts about it for some time now. I am playing the game for a bit more than a year and I wasn’t aware that such a currency once existed.
Well to be honest I cannot imagine the reason why they removed it but I guess they know… Although since I like sPvP a lot and I would like to see my progress there get rewarded with some more sPvP exclusive items (like the Balthazar back-piece or the Glorious armor skin) I will keep dreaming

They removed in the same patch that they removed the PVP reward boxes from AP chests and introduced the reward tracks if i remember right, it at the time wasnt needed and probably wont ever be brought back(I guess it would be nice, i dont PVP often and so i take my time getting the chests we have anyways xD) More PVP exclusive items would be nice though, i actually played PVP for that backpack, but havent had the urge to sense i got it as the glorious armor does not look that great on Charr characters IMO. ^^

Replay them on a different character? Story doesnt take to long if bland. I for one hope they do bring them back in this way. Along with Studded shoulders and other items that where Story mode exclusive items and are currently unobtainable.

The new LA Lighthouse name. :(

in Living World

Posted by: Dante.1763

Dante.1763

He was a permanent fixture of the southern end of town. He gave out speed boons if you managed to wander his way. He’s the type of NPC that is otherwise faceless and easily forgotten, like a named merchant.

I think the appeal lies in the fact that we identify with him to some extent. Grady was just a citizen, not military, not a member of one of the orders or the lionguard, and probably ill-equipped to take on Scarlet’s hoards. Despite that, he gave his life to help evacuate his neighbors and warn off any incoming merchants away from the harbor. He was not someone that had to remain – he had no one to answer to and he was in over his head. At his level, you didn’t see many examples of heroism.

Up until this naming contest i didnt know who he was! Why? I wasnt actively playing at the time the battle of Lions Arch occurred. It wouldnt surprise me if most(At least the ones who missed the Battle of LA.) players didnt or dont know who he was/is. Especially the newer players. So while he appeals to the players who where there, my assumption is that, those who werent there have no connection to him. Its a shame about his daughter(After i read what he did) for her to be so consumed by hatred though.

Do agree about his heroism and such and would like to see a plaque put up at the new lighthouse with his name on it and the things he did before he died, its not much, but its better than nothing and for sure would let newer players know who he was and what he did for the people of LA at the time. ^^

Pardon..what? We dont think such things.

When you’re rambling about how you deserve something it sounds pretty entitled to me.

no see, i meant the part about twice as many options, thats what i meant, where are you pulling the twice as many? if they gave female armor to female charr it would fit every other race in terms of choices. (but enough about that, its silly!)

And yes Charr and Asura should be entitled to have nice looking armor that actually fits their bodys and doesnt clip(I dont care to much about the gender thing right now, they have recently started putting more female armor on female charr and asura(Outfits too) and as long as they keep that up i will be happy, a good 50/50 mix of male and female armor would be perfect.) regardless of gender.

Tail clipping should not be a thing. Paper bag helmets should not be a thing. Toe Clipping should not be a thing. None of the clipping issues that plague these two races, and these two races alone should be a thing. Thats what they need to fix first IMO as they put in a beast race(focusing on the charr mostly, i dont play asura, to small!!), but seldom make armor fit for them.

Honestly both of these races would benefit from a true unisex(Male is not unisex.) armor and outfit appearance, i know its more costly for them to do so, that should be obvious to everyone because of the extra time it would take. But still, you have two races in game appearance wise that do not suit the rest of the races, and stretching armor to fit them, instead of actually making armor to fit them is not fair to players of those two races. Sylvari, Norn, and Humans all share basically the same skeleton and have far far fewer clipping issues than Charr and Asura. Oh and floating shoulders, floating shoulders are annoying too.

i truly think these threads wouldnt pop up if they made armor that was designed for Charr and Asura. I know i wouldnt care at all about male or female appearance if they did such a thing. But, thats just me.

Oh, so you think you’re for some reason entitled to twice as many options as any other race then? In any case, there are plenty of options even within male armor.

Pardon..what? We dont think such things. Where are you pulling that? We would like to have the same options as every other race, from time to time. My goodness, is that so hard to understand? I was excited for the light armor carapace set, till i realized i didnt get the butterfly shoulders on my charr. Havent got it since. All i play is Charr, i dont use 75% of the armor in game because of how crappy they model it on charr, and then they reduce my choices even further by limiting it(most) of the armor models to the male not a TRUE unisex option. If i have to, ill post pictures of my all light armor characters(IE half of my Charrs), they all use the same pants because its one of the few that lacks tail clipping, and is dress like, but at the same time does not look male or female, but a combination of the two.

So, do you think it’s ok for female Asuran and Charr to not have equal options as other races?

You, thank you for stating what i was going for but in way less words.

I finished up the personal story on one of the characters that were halfway through chapter 8 and got tracked into the restored order of quests, i e getting Victory or Death after completing the Source of Orr. Entering Arah I do indeed get to choose between a solo instance or to find a group for the group instance. However, the actuall dungeon doesn’t seem to be altered in a way to allow for solo play. Of course it was ages since I did play the story mode and I might remember wrong, but the whole pressure plate thingy seems quite impossible to do when being only you and Destiny’s Edge.

It has not been, as of today.

I would like Anet rather to do something with those toes sticking or rather clipping out of most armors and outfits….

I don’t purchase and use majority of them and will not, because of that ugly detail.

Btw. i think name should be Lion Roost because that lion at Lion’s Court is much better in rising from ash then Phoenix.

I know or at least hope you are joking. That lion statue has actually been broken longer than it has been in game repaired and working.

Confusion too fickle. Retaliation just fine?

What would you suggest as a change to retaliation?

Dunno but he has a point, Retaliation acts the same way. A slower attacking player will take less overall damage than a player with a rapid attack.

Not saying what to do, or that its bad, but still.

Two things.

Phoenix roost is a terrible name for a lighthouse. It’s not some bird’s nest, it’s a lighthouse.
Everybody and their cat will write it wrong like pheonix and it will kitten me off every time.

They could put a phoenix in there you know, or have it look Phoenix like We had Phoenixs in GW1 anyways so they exist in the game. Time will tell, but i liked that name better than the other two! Course, thats your opinion and this is mine~

Do we need 5 Trinkets? Or can we just have 1

That is only if you use all trinkets of the same type. Lot of people don’t.

Im assuming he was talking to me too, and he missed the bit where i run knights and nomads in those slots.
