Considering all the focus on Lion’s Arch, the semi-recent release of the Sea of Sorrows book, and Ree’s coy answers to certain questions, how likely do you all think it is that (Sea of Sorrows spoilers)Livia will make an appearance?
Maybe the thing Scarlet’s probe found under Lion’s Arch is actually (maybe this is a spoiler too)the Scepter of Orr?
Why would the person that owned the object, throw it away? It makes no sense.
I keep saying this, but Ventari’s teaching were non-magical, and couldn’t protect anyone from dragon influence. Not even Sylvari. Plus, if Sylvari are minions of Mordremoth, what about all the Sylvari that weren’t born on the Pale Tree?
The tablet doesn’t have to be magical. What if the grove is located on an intersection of ley lines. The extra magic in the area may explain why both the pale tree and the White Stag share the dream, but Malyck doesn’t.
I figured the big update was coming March 18th.
Nothing I’ve seen points at that Darc. By all accounts I’ve seen, she wanted the antitoxin, and she easily could have gotten that without leaving the stuff in her lab there (as she got it and left before we got to her lab). Beyond that I’d say she still had a “didn’t care about the tower” mentality.
Though us destroying the tower could be a tool to ensure the krait continue working with her, rather than taking their new “prophets” and fighting her.
Which sounds like an additional reason for her to want us to destroy the tower. The first reason is to help her to create a more powerful toxin and now you’ve added destroying the tower as a means to keep the krait under control.
I predict that lady Kasmeer holds the key to a new, more effective anti-toxin.
To me it is more of “she doesn’t care” rather than “she wanted us to do that” – her personality is that of not caring, of indifference. Just read through the “What Scarlet Saw” short story and that’s shown plain as day – anytime she was attacked she just left without a care in the world.
New evidence makes it look like Scarlet wanted us to destroy the tower.
Reward to time is completely out of whack for virtually all of the DEs that I come across. The “fun” factor is rarely enough to overcome the lack of reward.
NPC says: Stand here in this village for 6 minutes and defend against waves containing 3 risen thralls that spawn once each minute. I will reward you with a princely sum of one silver and couple hundred karma!
Um, no thanks.
The events where I have to defend a spot for a time interval are just not worth doing. However, the events where all I have to do is kill a champ or a veteran get done constantly. Whether or not I do an event, depends entirely on how much time it will take me. Longer events just don’t get done because the rewards just aren’t worth it.
Mordremoth can’t have control over the Sylvari like that. If he were to awaken, all the Sylvari would then be his minions, right?
Perhaps one of the Gods planted the seed for the Sylvari. Thus creating them. The dream by the Pale Tree is connected to the God’s protection. With that gone, then an Elder Dragon did invade Scarlet’s mind. Or perhaps a Champion of a Dragon.
But if something has control of her, and she’s fighting that, would they not know she’s planning this attack on them? It does seem like she’s actually going after the voice in her head and Tyria is just the collateral damage.
We know who planted the Pale Tree. It was Ventari. He got the seeds from a cave, and nurtured the tree and placed a tablet at its base. What we don’t know is how he knew the seeds would create living beings and how the seeds got into the cave in the first place. I personally think that the sylvari were intended to be servants of Mordremoth, but were corrupted by Ventari (in a good way). The seed was not planted before the Gods’ exile.
Ventari didn’t plant the magic beans, Ronan did. It never occured to Ronan that the tree would bear fruit to intelligent beings, he planted it to honor his dead family. Ventari came around later. You should play gw1 sometime.
i’m not sure i follow. you suggesting the pale tree has a love interest?
Cue “Tainted Love” by Soft Cell.
This just in: Pale Tree is a futa.
It’s a tax?
Hmmm, I was able to complete this without meeting one player enemy combatant. I don’t see the problem here.
I think any attack on LA will prove to be a mistake and will unleash precisely what she is looking to destroy. I suspect something is using her to get free by making her think she is going to destroy it.
“Play how you want” died long ago.
Now it’s all about luring players into every area of the game to try and keep them all populated.
That’s what devs are supposed to do!
I still don’t get why destroy Lions Arch? It seems unnecessary at this time. If all she wants is access to the ley lines to destroy some big bad, why would the people of Lions Arch want to stop her?
Its no RNG you ether get 2-3x more exotic drops if MF is working (with MF100-200%) if not its broken, law of probability let all get same amount of loot in the long run.
Your sample size isn’t big enough yet for the law of large numbers to kick in. You probably haven’t even completed a cycle.
Whatever happened to the cave just north of old LA that led to the EOTN campaign?
Wouldn’t this mean that the Soundless are open to the corruption as well?
The soundless are only soundless due to constant meditation and are still connected to the dream, but are able to block it out. What happened to Scarlet is that the dream was totally disconnected.
Gotta be something to aim for…
True, but short obtainable goals often drive players to play more frequent. Where long goals have no effect on a persons urgency. If people always think they are close to something they want they will play more.
If people are playing more there is even more of a chance they will buy gems when the end goal for any company is to make money. People will lose interest in items they feel they can never get.
Adding items for achievement farmers which is a small percentage of the population in my opinion was not a sound business decision on their part. I would aim for the middle of the pack on items so people feel like they still need to work but its in reach.
One other outside point is why loop through the two sets gloves, shoulders, helm before you hit boots? Boots should be next in line. If you wanted both sets you should start that at 21k.
There are chests available every 500 APs. I’d say they’ve got the short term goals covered. Stop pretending they don’t.
If you and everyone are so sure sprockets will rise in price, why isnt there already rampant speculation, driving up the price?
Hint: Sprockets aren’t that useful. Not only that, but these picks will insure that the market is flooded with them so the price will never amount to much.
Sprocket value was never the major issue. Its a step in a different direction. Also thanks to this, earlier version of picks are no longer BiS and they were advertised as such.
No the were not advertised as BiS. They were advertised as infinite and able to mine all ores.
Or the the Nightmare could be the Ying to the Dream’s Yang. Two sides of the same thing.
The cave is guarded by PLANT creatures.
Given the fact that the Pale Tree chose the sylvari’s appearance, as stated in an interview before release, then that means that those not of the Pale Tree may not be of human appearance. There were plenty of plant creatures in GW1, even if they didn’t interact with us on an intellectual level doesn’t mean they weren’t intelligent (take, for example, the fact that the charr didn’t in Prophecies).
The Maguuma Jungle was full of man-eating and mobile plants. It was seldom explored as it was the second most dangerous landscapes to be in (first being Ring of Fire) on continental Tyria. It wouldn’t be surprising at all if there were sentient plants – other than treants – that lived deeper into the Maguuma, actually. And the cave would certainly be deeper into the Maguuma Jungle given how it hasn’t been found after Ronan.
Accept Malyck is not of the pale tree and looks like a human also. Therefore, it’s not unknown for Sylvari to look like humans, but that’s beside the point. The point is, Sylvari are intelligent, no matter what they look like. I can’t believe for one instant that the last time the existed, they never encountered other intelligent species, when this time, they have.
The Dhuumstone is an interesting add. If found a fishing pole not too long ago at the bottom of a lake in Snowden drifts.
Just turn the dam servers off and on -.-
Probably best to make sure they’re actually plugged in to start with.
It’s all well and good saying “we’re working on it…”, but that really says nothing. Is it worth me waiting up for a few hours or will it take you guys all night? More to the point, I could ask why these kind of problems still happen but that’s just going to make me sound like a broken record.
I would plan on it taking them all night.
I don’t see a displacement of the seed being cause for something being different with the Pale Tree other than a different nurture. A change in nurture (or rather, how one treats the dragon minions), however, does not alter dragon minion perception so that is no standing evidence for the theory that sylvari are dragon minions.
To your later questions:
Why wouldn’t the seeds be guarded?
A parent protects their young while they’re still vulnerable amongst almost every animal species. Same thing could be the case here.
Who said the Pale Tree is unique? Maybe it’s just the first of many? We know the sylvari aren’t the first of the plant races out there, they’re just the most humanoid – and we were told the Pale Tree chose a human-like appearance. We know there’s at least one other tree (Malyck’s) which makes sylvari that are humanoid (at least more humanoid than other trees); and the Tower of Nightmares was hinted at being sapient and made krait-looking sylvari (Toxic Hybrid) in pods akin to the Pale Tree.
The only way the Pale Tree seems to be unique is in her chosing the form of the sylvari (caused no doubt by Ronan’s influence) and her being part of the Dream (Malyck lacks a Dream hinting his tree may as well- and we know the Dream is not unique unto sylvari, given the White Stag – so the connection to the Dream may be a case of location, given the Dream copies Ogham Wilds and is considered very close to it).
What parents could be guarding the seeds? I am not aware of any historical mention of Sylvari, before the first born. Although it would seem obvious that sylvari existed in the past. Why is there no mention of them? Therefore, why are they being guarded. Are the seeds being protected from the world, or is the world being protected from the seeds?
The dream and nightmare is what I’m referring to when I say the pale tree is unique. Of course, Malyck’s tree could be the unique tree.

$0.00 I just convert gold to gems.
The day the subscription starts is the day I stop playing.
You see, there are no outhouses in the Maguma jungle….
So in the end, if you removed the influence of the dragon be it through any means, (like the chicken ritual in orr) that intelligence can be used freely. And they could live even without the guidance of a dragon.
Intelligence != Free Will.
See my previous posts on the previous page (thank you, posting to a new page, seems Miroe missed them).
We have no reason to assume any of them have any sort of remaining free will.
Glint managed to make decisions after the corruption was taken from her and destroyers may too. I don’t say it IS that way. But don’t say, this is not possible. Something could have happened to to the Sylvaris corruption, there in Ventaris refuge. Something could have happened to the pale tree and the dream.. maybe even to the dragon himself and thus to the other sylvari of the other trees… we can consider it.
The destroyers did not gain free will like Glint did. Glint was only able to because of the Forgotten’s ritual. Simply killing a nearby dragon champion does not grant free will.
See my previous post for further explanation.
There is absolutely no reason to believe something “happened” to the Pale Tree, the seeds in the cave, or Mordremoth.
Actually, there is reason to believe that something “happened” to the seeds in the cave. That something was Ronan somehow getting through the seeds guardian to bring one out and plant it. A seed that grew into something unique among sylvari trees.
Why were the seeds being guarded?
What is the cause of the pale tree’s uniqueness?
50k AP for chest, I bet + )
I’ll take that bet. It will probably be 33K.
OMG! It’s Tuesday! Run for the hills, troubles coming! Can you imagine what it would be like to live in a world where something major happens every other Tuesday?
I can see Vegas Rose becoming a thief of hearts.
I’ll put my comment here, then leave my peace, since it doesn’t seem that we’ll recieve an actual response any time soon.
When I bought my first Infinite gathering tools, I thought “Hey, Infinite! That means I only need to buy one, and I’ll get to use it forever!”
Since, you know, infinite means infinite. It doesn’t get less useful over time, it retains the same value.
The new gathering tools that Anet is releasing will change in value over time because the newer material it gathers, even if its the only source, will eventually flood the market, and become worthless.
After thinking about it for awhile…, I think the new infinite gathering tool and all future ones are there only for fools to spend their money on who don;t do the math, because the only advantage they are buying isn’t even going to last that long if enough people spend their hard earned gold/money on the item. It will flood the market with whatever item, and become worthless. If you want to spend an extra 200 gems to do it, hey, its your money.
I agree with what you say about the market becoming flooded and I believe the player will never be fully reimbursed for the purchase of the newest tool. That being said, I disagree that the purchase is foolish. To me, it’s worth it for the convenience, and for the couple extra storage spaces I get for not having to carry an assortment of picks. I never have to swap out for different types of ore and I never have to worry about running of of picks. I like that. It brings me peace of mind.
I would like to see a watchwork pet.
Delete the rubbish. Most of the stuff can be collected again if it is needed later and you might even enjoy redoing the content. If a seasonal event comes back then so will all the tokens for it. If you don’t want to wear the 25 limited release cosmetics in your bank then you’re only causing yourself problems by keeping them until you might want to wear them.
If the bloodstone dust has taught us anything, it’s that some people can’t delete stuff to save their lives.
They need to tweak warden 3 a bit. Its bombs explode when you touch it, but it also explodes after a while. The thing is, there’s no area indicator of the bomb’s range. Maybe Anet could tweak it a little so that the bombs will show a red circle around it indicating the explosion area.
I’ll agree with this. Recently I’ve been having frame rate and culling issues, which I’ve mostly fixed, but these bombs were just not rendering. On the other wardens I at least had circles to avoid when my frame rate dropped and culling kicked in randomly during this fight.
It is just hard to avoid something you can’t see.
I’ve had this problem also with warden III. Just dead, no warning no nothin’. Where was the AoE circle?
If you and everyone are so sure sprockets will rise in price, why isnt there already rampant speculation, driving up the price?
Hint: Sprockets aren’t that useful.
Not only that, but these picks will insure that the market is flooded with them so the price will never amount to much.
I’m afraid that’s where you’re wrong, Darc. Yes, they were initially sold for 800 gems back during Flame & Frost, Secret of Southsun and the Aetherblade Pirates release. People who bought them during their initial releases paid 800 gems.
I’m not wrong, the Molten Pick never sold for 1000 gems. The Bone Pick did when the upgrade was announced, but not the Molten Pick.
Think of all the code fragments that are going to be left hanging Feb. 18th.
“Most individuals are gonna stay away from that place to begin with, and those that don’t wouldn’t be snooping around for very long, would be much better than hiding the place in a populated area…”
Ok the reasons I’d say it was a stupid place
- It would take a long time to get there by foot, which is presumably how she gets there. She’s meant to be a busy woman who is pioneering every branch of science.
Why would the queen of portals walk there? Does she walk anywhere?
All of a sudden I’m selling my Taragon that I posted for sale 4 months ago. I don’t know why the price jumped back up the way it did, but it’s good to get rid of this stuff that I thought I’d have to take a loss on.
It’s not just the name calling and the ranting either.
Someone shouts “Oak up” – someone else who is on the train at Boar says “wait for train” or “don’t kill” – doesn’t even say please, as if it’s a divine right to the train.
If this doesn’t tell you what’s wrong with the Champ Train nothing will.
You don’t have to wait if you don’t want to. Many people don’t, especially for Oak.
I see more PVPers whining than PVErs. PVP people whining about queues and noobs.
I would appreciate more boobies!
Here’s a nice pair!
Thanks for sharing your boobies with me!
I would appreciate more boobies!
The story instance didn’t really have any pay-offs. It was really a series of character moments that are pushing them along their respective arcs. It’s also worth noting that they will not all resolve at the same time or in the same release.
Fair enough. A “no pay-off” could certainly have been misunderstood as a “failed pay-off” in my case. I would probably have been happy with the “come back to my place,” “I’ll never leave” exchange without the tears preceding it. The marionette fight was traumatic enough, that the added drama about Kasmeer’s dad’s birthday (or was it death anniversary?) wasn’t required to push one character to reach out to the other in such a way. It just felt a little jarring (or overplayed), regardless of the sexual orientation of the characters involved.
I guess I’m saying it just didn’t resonate (the scene itself, not the relationship growth it was meant to show) with this particular player. Not a big deal. I’ve been rooting for them to ‘come out’ for a while now, perhaps I’m just getting impatient.
Death anniversary. And Kasmeer was already feeling down before the fight from what I remember. Also, that particular detail, about her father? Is payoff of a different sort – there’s been suggestions she’s had reasons to look down annoyedly at Lord Faren’s demeanor of “hey, live for the time of your life! Celebrate what’s good to get over the bad!” (an admirable quality in him and paints him as less of a buffoon than I took him for originally).
Could it have happened elsewhere? Yes, but not any earlier than this. Any later and it might get in the way of more serious matters coming up rather than being a somber note in an otherwise lighthearted part (like if she was doing it during Dragon Bash).
By the way, still taking bets on who’s dying this time when we do take down Scarlet. Rox, Kasmeer, Hobo-Tron, or Taimi.
taimi just got introduced, ain’t happening. plus her, rox and braham are the ties to destiny’s edge, the best way to bring those guys into living story. so my money is on them staying.
which leaves us with our oft-discussed couple.
I think Kasmeer is a dead woman walking.
I’m waiting for the next gen pick since they will have to up the game with the sprocket pick. Something like “The Pick of the Devs! This self repairing pick straight from the computers of the devs has a chance to add a precursor to the rewards when used to mine ore veins!”
Stay tuned in 6 months for “The Pick to end all picks! This self repairing pick straight from NcSoft’s Bean counters desk has a chance of adding $100 dollars to your account through your credit card to the rewards when used to mine ore veins!”
After that, it will be GW3 and we will get copper picks that add nothing and the whole process will restart.
Your fantasies do not justify your position.
Just because Boris the Purple Moose told you that this may happen, doesn’t mean it will happen.

Most of the Guardians I see around. They of course wield exclusively staff.
UGH!! This bothers me as my main is a guardian, I carry every weapon for different things, pretty much only pull staff for temple runs (mega tagging for mega-loot) and to clear the poison bulbs in TA.
On this event, there really is no loot for tagging anything so staff makes no sense whatsoever…Ive informed a few guardians that when I see them running with staff on it, Greatsword / hammer / sword-focus are SO much better for taking down the champs and especially the wardens (I switch to scepter-focus for warden 3 and 4 before going in the portal).
Actually, there’s quite a few fragments to be gained by tagging. I usually get enough to make 1 or 2 keys, even after a loss.
I get that much from using Greatsword or hammer and standing at the chokepoint where everything runs through (every lane has this spot down near where they spawn)….and do 2x the damage of the person standing there with the staff spamming #1.
I clearly misunderstood your post. I thought you said there wasn’t loot worth tagging for.
