You ask if thief profession was Op so why not have alot thief players in parties and fights?

I have answer/question: think about it: maybe reason why is, wining all the time and using the same builds and same moves/play-style all the time is too boring for them so they play other professions that offer different builds with different moves/play-style?

It is the decision, the choice, they made, what they play and not play. Allow them to grow up and own up to the decision they made – it’s harmless since it’s a game after all. If they choose to play other professions and exclude one, that’s by choice. If they see it boring to do the same thing over and over again, that’s fine, they can play other professions and come back whenever they please/find those professions boring. If they’re tired of winning all the time and switched over to “not winning all the time”, it is again by choice.
They’re allowed to make them (choices and decisions), and they should own up to it. If they make a choice/decision and then blame others for it… well… it shows a personal flaw.

How that relates to something being OP, is beyond me.

I already answer: Arena net design the thief profession to guarantee win: that is why.

Guarantee goes against choice and rewards mistakes and risks instead of punishment.

Example:

If you are Guarantee to pass a test, will it matter if you chose to give the right answer? or chose to give the wrong answer?

Another Example:

If you are Guarantee to graduate from University: will it matter if you go to class? will it matter if you do not go to class?

Zero Day: you are a intelligent/smart person, you know this is true

That is what i read and hear players say in the forum and in the game when i use to believe Arena net was going to make the game fun and challenging: thief do not learn anything—thief uses the same builds, same play-style, same game-play, same no-effort play, same no hard-work play, it same everything, no diversity, no real challenge/ limited challenge, same spamming over and over= very boring.

Parties and groups want a profession that offer diversity, challenge, support, risk-reward game play contribution: and No! stealth is not support game-play contribution because it prevent/limit challenge play— unless for emergency reasons.

So what does that mean:

Arena net design the thief profession to contribute only stealth for party/group play: that is all but party/group play do not see thief stealth as contribution and as necessary support.

Before even the guild i belong to when run dungeon/pve party ann even in wvw do not accept thief profession in their party: which is sad. I hope you understand the whole picture why?

This is another evidence why Arena net design thief profession to only win and to guarantee to win: with having only pluses. Having only pluses and having guarantee win goes against learning new things, hardship, restrict/prevent take risks, challenge game-play.

So as long Arena net continue to believe that is what thief profession is: they will struggle to be accepted and be restricted and denied access to parties who want challenge: hard-work and effort game-play and risk-play.

think about it:

I’ll agree that the PvP community in this game is horrible.

~ If you’re not G.W.E.N, you’re garbage.
~ If you’re spec isn’t meta, you’re garbage.
~ If you don’t one shot or global someone, you’re garbage.
~ If you can’t carry your team while they’re AFK, you’re garbage.
~ If you take one single hit, you’re mocked and you’re garbage.
~ If you can’t kill 3 people at once, you’re garbage.
~ If you go down because 3 people are wrecking you, you’re garbage.

It goes on forever. Though there’s a difference between venting and being salty. Venting is when you’ve enough and blow it off. Salt or being salty is keeping it bottled up, being a baby about it and throwing a fit when someone gets lucky.

If you want to point a finger at someone for the communities attitude, point it at A.net. If dungeons in this game weren’t so horribly broken – Run, stack, run, stack, run, stack, skip this trash, run, stack, and give players content that can be taken as something other than a joke, attitudes would improve. Perhaps pug’ing wouldn’t be a nightmare.

If Magic Find in this game wasn’t broken, players wouldn’t salty because loot would drop. And just to give you an example of how MF is broken, go your Trading Post, see how many pres and legendaries are up for sale then note how many people are wearing a legendary. Strange that the percentage ratio to pres dropping, which you need for a legendary is somehow skewed compared to how many months players; who’ve been around since release with 300% MF have yet to see a pre outside of the Trading Post.

If PvP in this game wasn’t polarized between zerker and bunker, players would have a reason to use other builds, gear and talent set ups. Reducing the chance for elitism. Now am I saying that it’s all A.net’s fault? No, but they certainly aren’t doing anything to address the problem. There aren’t any plans for dungeon tweaks, no revamps, no looking at reward vs risk for all content. Maybe if they gave a kitten about their game others would have better attitudes.

thief went to reset? good… you got point, enjoy your match points~

also i love how people cry “omg thief can reset”…. and somehow forget to mention that the moment thief goes ooc their target is also ooc and gets to heal up…

i think it is hilarious to say that thief doesn’t get punished for failed attack… if anything thieves get punished the most for single mistake in game atm….

you don’t reset as a thief. you sit in stealth until crucial skills are off cooldown, like steal or withdraw, and then you go at it again. or you sit out invul skills in stealth, another gimmick that renders other classes’ defensive skills useless. thieves don’t get punished for single mistakes at all. thieves have on demand teleports that can save their kitten s in most situations and make cc useless if you don’t force the 2 stunbreaks before.

thief is also the only class in the game that is unkiteable as they have teleports that are not tied to cooldowns while other classes’ teleports are on a 30-40s cooldown. so if a thief wants to chase you he will do so and you will not get away most of the time.

the only classes that can face a thief are celestial classes that bring self sustain and a mix of direct damage and condition attrition or guardians because they have the needed aoe damage with good sustain and blocks, this will change though as soon as thieves will be able to run 3 traitlines, in fact thieves with vampire runes can already kill guardians because mist form will save them when they eat a mighty blow combo or get trapped by the ring.

the thief’s class design is broken and to fix it they would have to overhaul the whole class which is obviously not gonna happen.

they learned their lesson with energy ressource or why else do revenants have actual cooldowns on their skills + the energy cost.

I feel like they’re going about redesigning the class all wrong! I think its fine if they take away boons or spells upon dodging, but dear god don’t just replace those traits with other passives that make the Elementalist passively soak up damage! Anet you talk about trying to become an Esport yet you throw us traits that a toddler could take full advantage of. You can’t build a class around passives and expect to become an Esport, there needs to be a challenge behind playing every class! Players should feel like they EARNED that kill because they outplayed their opponent! As of now almost none of your classes provide much skill to play. Its all about rock paper shotgun.

Design classes that provide great risk for huge rewards, design classes that are hard to master, design classes that have huge learning curves and high skill caps, design classes that take years to master. THIS IS HOW YOU ESPORT!

I stopped wvw because no risk, no effort is required: only free reward and more free reward for that is all. Include: Pvp and Pve.

It only took me couple of months to see that: not 2-3 years like other players who refuse to see that or in-denial of it.

I remember my first experience in wvw: 1 minute in wvw: i was instant down by a invisible profession than i was instant killed in down-state and still could not see what killed me.

So what did i do: i post my experience in the forum want to know what happened and why there was no down-state skills to attack that invisible/stealth profession- there was none.

That is what the first “nail-in-the-coffin” withdraw of playing wvw.

I say to myself include other players: did Arena net advertize Guild Wars 2 to be friendly to new players? so where is it? Than i realize it was a lie and i feel deception because after more months playing wvw/pvp: i see all the evidence of it. So i finally stopped wasting my time be lie to and be deception.

I tell myself, i will not waste my time anymore for believing the lie. I already have 2 infractions already: why? for wanting change: fun and challenge and risk-reward, that is all. Yes! only for that and Arena net punish me.

So why should i continue playing this game? So why should i buy the expansion if this is what Arena net do? How about if i get more infractions for wanting same in the new expansion? Is that fair?

Wanting change for good should not be punished but be appreciated. Why waste time for being with a company who want to punish me for want anything good? Why waste time for being with a company who want to punish me for want effort and hard-work first before reward? Why waste time for being with a company who want to punish me for want fun for Guild Wars 2?

I finally research: 2-3 years: a lot of player who want change for good: effort, hard-work= reward were punished also. I wish i investigated earlier and never play this game at all with a company who only want bad things for their games and punish any thing that want good for it.

Did i quit? No! When Arena net appreciate players who want good change and remove all of their infractions and make serious change to the game: i will play again and take seriously.

Hackers was encountered again just right now. It is unbelievable that ANET has not done anything to get this guy banned or adapted their code to block this hack. In any other serious MMO this hacker would have been banned right a way but not in GW2.
Not to mention that there are many new players who try out EOTM and what they encounter? Invisible hacker who shows middle finger to whole community and makes ANET look like very bad.

Yeah like i have been desperately trying to get across was just that bad apples slamming a net woth constant problems, do you think it merely takes a click to resolve a balance or incorperate a whole new pvp leaderboard system at the same time. 4 years is a long time but personally i feel they have done a good job since the first time i played on launch. I think people fail to remember just how much work has been put into this game.
They need more appreciation. Could you imagine doing your best for the game and its fan base to consistently get negative feedback? Like i said to begin with on this thread. Lets focus on the positives an give them solutions to boosting the game rather than problems that waste their time an only add pressure!

It is not nice when there is no Fun to play against this profession. GW should be a game somewhere, that people play for fun but it is not. That is why change-challenge must be enforce to make it happen.

I want to share something with you include Elementalists players that is very interesting.

In my research and investigation: In 2005 something happened that enforced fun and challenge in Guild Wars by Arena net. It is Arena net no longer refusing to tolerate anything that threat fun and challenge.

What was that threat?

Spike Damage/ Burst Damage.

Why was it a threat?

“A spiker is a player who inflicts massive amounts of damage to a single target in a short period of time, with the goal of taking them down quickly”.

What was Arena net serious action against this non-challenge and non-fun threat?

“The spell Chain Lightning was made weaker in the summer of 2005 by reducing its damage and increasing its activation time. This made it less potent and easier to disrupt. This was in response to the domination of PvP teams that were composed of Air Magic spikers”.

Why was it a threat?

Why even continue to waste my other time writing in the forum than? I already spending very little time with the game: it make more sense to not waste any of my time at all.

(I picture Arena net laughing at us players who use our time to report problems: the joke was always us players: no serious solution, no serious anything-the evidence are everywhere: Same laughing 3 years+ ago, same laughing now )

How does dragonhunter make sense? Does a Warrior not hunt dragons when he plays LS. Does an Engineer not do that? Or is the Guardian the only one who can actually kill the dragon?

How many times are people going to use this argument? It’s stupid. Anyone can hunt something but hunters have specific hunting tools for their targets. Just don’t.

What about my ranger who was both the traps and the longbow (the tools needed)?

I understand your point, OP. However this is a fault of the players, not just game design.

There will ALWAYS be players that look to find the fastest/most efficient method of doing content no matter the sacrifice in fun (look at how fast chest farm arose from silverwastes), that is not something any form of design principles can fix

So I’ve played since launch and lately I cant even log in because the game is so boring to me. I PvE, mostly dungeon or fotm and this zerker meta is literally killing the game. Just recently a old gw2 member named Nemesis uploaded a video on this subject and he hit alot of points that I’ve noticed and even more than I didn’t notice. (GJ nemesis!)

So this meta is all about DPS, Corner stacking, Glitching and exploiting.. Some evidence…

-The meta is DPS because its all Zerker gear (out of the 23 stat prefix’s, guess anet just wanted to make different stat gear for giggles)

-Corner stacking doesn’t need evidence, everyone has done it but it’s common in MMO’s and isn’t a problem unless it’s mixed with the other 3 parts of the meta.

-Glitching is a serious problem but people do it and it’s literally accepted as part of the meta. A few examples are CM attacking people through walls, CM climbing wall by Frost in P1 to take 0 damage, CM P2 running the boss between 2 plateau’s to become completely stuck, etc. I only mentioned CM but there’s glitching in every dungeon, just youtube “gw2 Glitch (whatever dungeon)” and you’ll be met with video proof.

- Exploiting is just stupid and yet people still do it to Lupi with reflecting his attacks to down him in seconds. Obviously this isn’t challenging content for a boss in a dungeon yet now it’s accepted as ok? wtf man. There are more but I draw a fine line between glitching and exploiting so i’ll let you choose.

So as nemesis states in his video “Gw2 abondonded the holy trinity to become…just dps?” It’s literally gotten to a point where people are stating that certain classes are sub par and should not be taken for optimal dps. How is this better? I for one think it’s literally ludicious and now with HoT coming I’m sending the Dev’s a message…" You have the opportunity to fix what has been left to grow into such a big problem. The ball’s in your court, Please stay true to your word to make this MMO the be all end all MMO"

Just so you know (Nemesis says this as well), 3.5 million copies of the game has been sold since launch but only 443k views on the expansion reveal video. These number’s are fairly alarming as the majority of players still interested in the game would of watched the video already. New or returning players will be greeted by looking up videos of corner stacking, glitching, all dps numbers and most likely turn away from the game as it’s bad advertising.

What does everyone else think about gw2 current state? Is all this ok?

You are correct! I completely agree with everything you say. If i were to post evidence of everything you say: it would take more than 100+ pages because i do have them.

My only questions to Arena net: You have too many evidence of everything that is happening in the game (3 Years+ beta testing), how many evidences do you need and want to give your players a challenge and fun game? To enforce Hard-Work, Effort, Risk-Reward? To take serious action anything that is against it and to make serious change for the game in a positive way?

My brain had a seizure reading this, but I get the point, that balance of the professions is key to competitive, and fun gameplay.

The problem with the premise of your argument though is that you determine what is fun, whereas someone else’s definition may be different. Eles do not DOMINATE any game mode, they’re decent to good in most, but are not the overpowering, destructive force you allude to.

And really, its not even a problem. The Ele (and Engineer) are the most difficult professions to play, and if they are played skillfully SHOULD reward the player with consistent victory. Otherwise, you’re punishing players who would pick those professions so that scrubs who noobcannon their way through the game with Warriors and Guardians can feel good about crushing Scholars.

Where is “skill”?
Where is “Challenge”?
Where is “Fun”?
Where is “Hard-Work”?
Where is “Effort”?
Why so many rewards: for free?
Change-Nerf: where?

I am so glad many mmo’s include new mmo companies do not tolerate this in their games. They make challenge+Fun, Risk-Reward first priority

Indeed. The PvP and Necro forums will be nerf central for the first few weeks when all this drops. I guarantee it. Some of it may be valid, but I’ll bet money that most of it won’t be and here’s why: People have gotten used to the state of Necro, and just how easy it can be to shut them down and drop them. Having trouble with them, and even losing to them regularly will simply be unacceptable. Mark my words.

^ This is my biggest worry. The class looks okay now. But they may end up destroying it with a future nerf. A very near future nerf.

It will be much sooner than that. My perdition: less than 3 month.

I Am Very Disappointed!!

Why? Is this what a reaper is? With a Great sword? and with chill Element?

Is not Chill Element belong to Elementalist Profession? What connection/relationship does communicating with the dead and raising the dead spirits have with an element?

I do not see great sword as a reaper farming tool: where is it?

First it was Guardian Profession: Dragon Hunter which make Absolute No Sense! with its profession role, Now it is Necromancer Profession: Reaper which make same Absolute No Sense! with its profession role..

I feel Arena net is refusing to innovate the Guardian Profession and the Necromancer Profession into something more meaningful and wonderful.

Moot point since there is no “scythe” weapon in the game unless you count the staff skins that look like scythes.

I see that you do not play Necromancer Profession.

Necromancer Profession! have a weapon skill that use Scythe attack that is called: Reaper’s Scythe. There is even a Scythe image in the skill.

It make sense to give the necromancer profession a Scythe weapon in connection/relationship with the skill, so why Arena net did not?

Engis have too much of everything on too short CD. Specializations are not bringing any hope either. I could write a whole essay about why but i has been posted countless times.

WTB nerfs/changes:
- slick shoes need either longer CD or apply knockdown only once per circle and not be stackable (after stab changes this spell is just unproportionally amazing)
- gear shield needs longer CD
- healing turret either needs longer CD or longer cast time
- (arguable) kits need to have CD like attunements
- CC in general needs to be toned down (see rifle) weither via longer CD, shorter duration on immob, anything really
- IP needs an icon and longer ICD
- kits need an icon; you can’t tell what kit engi is in unless you zoom in (and actually see anything in massive sparkle spam) or let them use spells

@Anet: stop buffing engis, the class is unpopular because of lame looks, lame looking spells and just awkward dps rotation in pve. Overbuffing them in pvp won’t make them popoular generally.

Solutions:
- remove hobosack
- make engi spells/gadgets etc. sparky (see asura turrets, asura bombs etc.; add turret/kits/bombs skins in gem store!!???)
- give simple dps rotation for pve so you don’t need rocket science to pull as much dps as zerker war in dungeons

Could you all please stop to write here about the update amount or value? There are really enough threads already where you can discuss that.
Some weeks after gw2 release anet introduced a byweekly updatecycle for alot of good reasons (not major cotent! Just updates like fixes, gemstore, skill changes,…). Some reasons have been:
- update size. People which use gw2 during travelling or with limited monthly data could plan that updates that are more then a high priority emergency fix will only be introduced every 2 weeks on tuesday.
- Events will usually be in gw2 during this 2 week cycle or 4 weeks, if not otherwise stated.
- Gemshop Items or BL Skins will only be introduced or change on these update dates
- you can take these dates to try to get bugged events/merchants after update
- you were safe not to miss any ingame event or thing if it wasn’t introduced on these tuesdays
- these dates were fixed for updates. If update was delayed or there was no update at all then anet wrote it on twitter/facebook, on their website, during PoI, or at least a dev or gaile wrote it on this forum!

These last point is why I’m concerned right now. Why has there been no information at all about this tuesday? And does that mean that these sure byweekly updatecycle is no more and so that we silently actually went back to the same problems that existed over 2 years ago after gw2 release?
Or has there been any information and I just didn’t find it?

First: you are angry at us players for not doing research for information.
Second: you are asking us players questions to why there is no information.
Third: you are concern like us players.

I do not understand? It make no sense at all.

Why a great sword?

Dunno guys, just wanted to know why a great sword? They have axes, and swords for melee. Was just wondering, lol

Because Aragorn from Lord of The Rings Series is one example of a Ranger theme.
And what was he using? Could you guess?

Games and not even reality are made on “1 weapon per mode” basis.
Are Rangers capable of fighting with Greatswords? Yes. Does it fit thematically? Hell yea!

What would be the problem then?
Greatsword is awesome for “defensive utility stance”. Has the block, CC, lots of passive evade, has mobility, spiky damage. In case you asked for the use, and not the thematic filter.

So why not thief profession have greatsword? They have block, CC, lots of passive evade, have mobility and spike damage?

It would not make sense correct?

Same reason why it do not make sense for ranger profession to have greatsword.

Greatsword is a heavy weapon: how do a light armor and medium armor able to carry and swing this heavy weapon with high speed with accuracy without breaking their arm?

If it is a fantasy game: give all professions heavy weapons and delete heavy armor professions: warrior and guardian profession.

Give ranger profession hammer, mace, give them all warrior/guardian professions weapons, why not?

After doing that: delete warrior/guardian profession: why not?

Why waste their time and energy in the game if every profession can carry heavy armors like them: even better than them?

What is the sense of having diferent armors/weapon stats in the game: if they all can do the same thing?

The Op is correct to ask: It do not make any sense at all!

Question: cats and birds: they both are fast, they both can see far, they both can hear far, so why not give cats wings like birds to fly?

Again, Do you understand why it do not make sense?

Well… It kind of works like that and kind of doesn’t. As in with enough nerfs, surely, 99% of the people will find the class “counterable” or easier to deal with… Though there still remains that 1%. Kind of like those antiseptic wipes you use to clean things with, kills 99% of the germs! (Lives the 1% to kill you! – or maybe they’re harmless who knows, I haven’t died yet).

OP, if you encountered this Guild doing that kind of thing, you can do two things:

A. Go to Unranked Queue, which is unlikely you do, because you said you like to do your dailies quickly. Or,

B. Simply, go out of that map and search another hot-join server. There is hundrends of them and I don’t believe that a guild can cover them all. You simply have to go to the server list and search for one match you can enter: you don’t have to rely in the “Practice Match” button.

Sorry for you to get a guild group like that, trolls gonna troll. But I don’t think ANet can do anything about it, it’s the nature of hot-join.

About doing something while in Queue for Unranked and Ranked… they eliminated the possibility of hot-joins because a good amount of the 4vs5 were caused by loading times, crashes between loads, et cetera. So I think it’s unlikely to come, because the even *changed the name to Practice Arena, and not “Hot Join” *

Meh. I’m not too worried about it. It’s one of these ‘wait and see’ deals. Personally, I don’t think it’s going to be too big of a problem. Skilled thieves should be just fine, and things like this will separate the truly good thieves from those just using stealth as a crutch for easy loot bags. The best thieves know how to survive without stealth. Let’s not forget all of our evades and teleports. To top it all off, we’ve yet to see what the Thief’s Specialization will be and what it will bring to the table for thieves.

(I will not post that 2 years thread link again) I agree with you because if Arena net wanted to make thief a challenging profession to the other profession: would it make sense to make the changes to thief profession instead? Like fixing the main problem instead of fixing other problems that will never fix the real problem?

Example: You know that the main problem of your car is the engine. So instead of fixing the engine: you make adjustments and make fixes to other parts of the car to help the engine get better.

So 2 questions:

1. By fixing and making adjustments to other parts of the car, did it resolve the engine problem?

2. Why did you not just fix the engine: which is the main problem?

I hope you understand what i mean, as long Arena net do not re-design thief traits: engine car example, thieves players have nothing to worry about.

Like other players say, “put bandage on it”. They are correct!

So for 2years+ do you know how many bandage thieve profession have? Too many and many more will be added.

Even thief profession upcoming nerfs and future nerfs will add more bandage and more bandage unless Arena net make serious change and re-design thief profession traits.

Even other professions upcoming “counters” and future “counters” against thief profession will just add more bandage and more bandage: so why be worried at all?
