2-3+ years with: no serious change, no serious action, no serious anything to make thief profession challenging and fun. What difference asking developers to care about thief profession inquiries if thief do not require: hard-work, effort, taking risk, skill-play, counter-play, making mistakes and learning from mistakes?

They can try to retcon their history and their words all they want, but at the end of the day, the game itself was not built with the trinity in mind. If it were then there would be a way to properly pull aggro and not just some new skill that holds aggro, sort of. There would have been and will be meaningful group/area and single target heals (which still do not exist in the game) where they are beneficial to a group.

I forgot who, but someone already did the math breakdown as to why the meta has been zerk in PvE and its not because people have a chub for zerk, but because the game was designed in such a way that it is the most effective method for killing enemies with the fewest casualties.

I’d love for it to matter that I can go out in a healing build on my guardian and keep people standing in spite of themselves while possibly tanking a good amount of damage and allowing my ranged people space to melt a boss. That isn’t how this game was developed though.

I want to use a example: It is like building a foundation for a house, than all of sudden: you want to change your mind and want to use that same foundation to build a building.

I did not find any evidence on video about trinity on gw2, care to enlighten me?

It’s around the 5 minute mark where he talks about their intentions.

I listen it again from 4.30 to ~7min , and didn’t find any clue or definition of trinity, i did noticed Coling talking about making defensive traits/skill more effective w/o killing the focus into DPS (wich is actually what Tank means to Anet).

Which actually playing on support/defense is impossible outside spvp, he is talking a more seamless combat experience at least for Ravenant and i hope mace/shield guardian gets fixed for wvw to.

U had semi-working roles in the last trait system.

Around the 6:30 mark. He says (roughly) “we never didn’t want to have the tank, the healer, the tank….that’s a common misconception…”

Afraid that need o put some effort into kill some one?

Like i said, Tank Anet definition is not what ur thinking, u had sturdy but not invincible guardians at front line, they were just there controlling the bad players(has a unorganized group) mostly, they could be easilly downed with a spike call.

I’m sorry, but you’ve completely lost me. Seems you’re looking for an argument that isn’t there. You asked where Colin talks about the trinity and all I did was show you where he brings it up, that’s all.

First there are two different terms.

Trinity and Holy Trinity.

Trinity refers to the different aspects of combat – dealing damage, healing damage/mitigating damage, crowd control/support.

In old EQ it was actually 5 aspects – damage mitigation and healing were split and so were crowd control and support.

Holy Trinity refers to the single role a class executes in combat- tank, dps, heal. During an encounter the tank won’t start healing or the dps will become a tank – spec changes generally occur out of combat.

With the advent of WoW and games inspired by WoW, holy trinity and trinity became synonyms for many (most) people.

But Colin uses the original definitions for trinity and holy trinity.

People can say “look many (most) use them as synonyms, so why is Colin causing confusion”?

But how does one describe the aspects of combat without the term trinity?

Colin reddit post is pretty clear.

It works the way we intended: you can play control, support, and DPS actively. To folks who prefer to define by the holy trinity, Gw2 doesn’t force you to pick one of the three from heal, tank, or DPS and only do that – it blends a mix depending on your build and allows you to actively swap roles or soft play between roles. Our goal was to remove the forced singular role per you’re locked into, people often mistake this as saying gw2 has no trinity elements, that isn’t true – we just don’t believe in a forced role per for Gw2 for the reasons I covered in the live stream.

Notice how Colin clearly makes the distinction between Holy Trinity (role lock) and Trinity Elements (different aspects of combat).

But we all know that for PvE it mostly devolved into buff stacking, perfectly timed dodges (and other active defense) and max DPS.

If all of the aspects of trinity (dealing damage, healing/mitigating damage and CC/support) are to be present and have similar importance, encounters need to be redesigned.

Again Colin reddit post is clear.

It’s that the mobs and encounters we have provided so far very rarely allow/encourage you to make use of the combat system as intended.

Other than people thinking Trinity and Holy Trinity are the same thing, there is no room to misunderstand what Colin said

Revealed is not a counter to stealth. It can do nothing on ppl who are in stealth. It has power on ppl who are not. This is the real problem with stealth. It lacks counter play .

I’m new to pvp (mostly do map exploration), and I gotta say, I love stronghold. Best part is I hardly need to fight anyone so I won’t be feeding the enemy team when I play a tanky class. I just run supply all game and still be a big help to my team. Best “pvp” game mode ever! They are doing a good job of introducing new players into pve-
I mean pvp side of this game. ^^

I do not blame you for confusion with pvp game mode and pve game mode because that is the problem why Stronghold is bad. Arena net is treating Stronghold like Pve instead of what is suppose to be-PVP- Player versus Player.

We shouldn’t think this problem just as “your profession is better than mine”, but as a whole.

Currently burn damage is completely out of control. It provides too fast armor ignoring burst. The condition cleansing simply isn’t enough. Burn does too much dmg even using berserker/marauder amulet, which offers no condition damage. If a character hasn’t invested any points to condition damage stat, the burn should do considerably less dmg than it does now.

At the same time bleed damage feels a bit too weak.

Abundant stealth in combat in this game is still problematic. I recommend limiting stealth to max 8 sec. Player animation will turn semitransparent, if player still remains stealthed despite the “warning”, it will result 4 s revealed. More professions should have some stealth revealing skills e.g. warrior’s “fear me” / “on my mark” could give 2-4 s reveal.

The most commonly used sigils: fire/air/doom/geomancy/energy/intelligence need to be toned down
The most abused runes: strength/Hoelbrak/Pirate/Balthazar/Krait also need some readjusting.
I am also using them, so I am asking the developers to nerf my favorite sigils etc.

When it comes to professions here is my list:

super tier:
mesmer (too many stuns and other CC with very low cooldown, ability to set up massive burst from stealth, too long stealth, just too many escapes compared
to the burst potential it has, meaning it is low risk + high reward, mantras and PU +
Confounding Suggestions trait need toning down)
elementalist (cele D/D was already super tier before the patch and now it got buffed even more and D/F +staff is very strong as well. Ele has always been meta in WvWvW and pve. Ele’s ability to stack might, cleanse condition and stack burn should be nerfed)
guardian (ability stack burn needs to be turned down, “Feel my wrath” is ridicilously overpowered in WvWvW, giving permanent quickness to entire guardian
dominated zerg, other professions, which fit the same role e.g. warrior and engi, should have their sustain upgraded to same level as guardian)

mid tier:
necromancer (necromancer needs some of its hardest hitting abilities, like Lich form, toned down, but also get a bit long term sustain or perhaps an utility skill/elite which gives them a movement skill)
warrior (shout warrior sustain was nerfed a tiny bit too much, so it should be adjusted back to closer to the same levels as it was before the patch. Rampage is currently too strong, greatsword + forceful greatsword trait and berserker’s power
too powerful, burst skills recharge too quickly, allowing to spam burst skills without thinking, too low cd on hard CC skills)
thief (panic strike + executioner too strong, abundant stealth + shadowsteps + high burst in one builds counters all other berserker builds, besides mesmer, limiting meta,
pistol/pistol still too weak)

low tier:
ranger (signet of stone needs adjusting down, but please give ranger other defensive ability, not necessarily immunities, the ability to spam two rapid fires almost in a row needs to be toned down, pets should have a “spirit” mode, when they are totally deactivated, taking no dmg, but also doing nothing, this would be highly needed for AoE heavy envinroments, like contesting mid point with 3vs3, WvWvW zerg fights and pve dungeons),
engineer (previously super tier profession suffers from some very underpowered or even broken traits and lack of trait synergy, make rifled barrels trait baseline like planned, grenade kit was nerfed too hard, medkit skills should be “drop vial” like before and not thrown, engineer’s ability to stack burn with IP trait + pistol/pistol + flamethrower needs to be toned down, toolkit shield too good)

People in this thread are missing the point entirely. This sort of damage should not be possible, PERIOD. It doesn’t matter if he had time to react or knew the attack was coming. This high damage is poison to PvP as it severely limits tactics, skill level, and simply isn’t fun for the majority. This goes for all the skills in the game that can hit/crit for a classes base health. No class should be critting for even a 1/4 of another classes base health. Fights should take 30s+, not 1-5s.

Now I know you’re thinking that the thief would be crippled if it couldn’t kill people quickly, that’s why it needs changed and rebalanced. Of course if all damage in the game is actually rebalanced it might not be that huge of an issue. I’ve played thief since beta, I’ve avoided the insta-gib builds like the plague as it only hurts the class when they inevitably get nerfed, but since ArenaNet has no clue how to balance the end up hurting everything else about the class.

Personally, I’m done adapting for stupid decisions that hamper the veterans who actually bothered to learn the game, and reward the new people that within a month will quit because the game’s too boring.

I love how every time there’s a change in the game, those not liking it pretend it favors new players. On the contrary, the current burst is really cruel to new players. You don’t have a “look behind” key bind? Dead. You don’t have the reflex to press your invuln/stun breaker in under a second? Dead. You don’t know what skills deal damage on other professions? Dead. As a veteran myself, I find roaming easy after the patch. Winning 1v3s is easy if two of them are down after the opener.

My research result: you main-play memser. It make sense now.

Anet decided to take a fresh start regarding traits, so of course the balance is worse now than it was. However, some issues were addressed (necro’s mobility, with the 25% movement speed with dagger, mesmer’s weakness against thieves, ranger’s brainlessness with more active traits, guardian’s lack of condi builds, etc). We are just starting to see the beginning of a meta: we know that warriors play rampage, that eles play stone heart and that thieves play d/p. Other than that, everything is still changing: mesmers change their builds every week, and engineers don’t really know where they stand. I’m glad the devs are giving themselves a bit more time before nerving stuff.

MMORPGs are never balanced. Anyone can name any mmorpg (popular/known, regardless of pvp or pve) and people will state classes/professions and certain builds that have been powerful or overpowered since that games release.

People just kitten because there is nothing else to do once you complete your dailies and do some sPvp or WvWvW roaming.

I can name many mmo company who make effort in balance their game.

I mean… What? This is beyond ridiculous. I have no words. Is HoT going to be released at the same “professional” condition like this last patch? I need to know because I preordered and it’s important to know should I ask for refund.

This is what i do now: before pre-order anything: i do research in the company history to current: how the company resolve problems and how the company take serious action against problems. Last: I continue research: do the company take challenge, risk-reward, hard-work, hard-effort, skill-play and fun serious?. Importantly, do the company work with their players to fix and improve the game?

If there is a No answer to any question: I will refuse to pay anything.

Why pay for problems with no serious changes instead of solutions with serious actions?

Then explain to me how would you like the devs to implement this:

Remove burst from these professionals
Make serious change to their burst: -90% burst damage reduction.

Yes! reduce burst damage by -90% or reduce burst damage by -50% with 240 second skill cool-down. Not to forget: Fire Sigil and Air sigil which is also responsible: so i suggest these 2 sigils be reduce to 70%. The goal is to reduce every non-challenge and non-enduring: include--sigils, builds, weapons, etc… from burst damage.

The main problem is: Burst. Thief, Elementalist, Elementalist, Ranger, Mesmer and Engineer burst are responsible for thin causing Instant Kills.

Suggestion:

Remove burst from these professionals
Make serious change to their burst: -90% burst damage reduction.

Burst, Instant Kill do not do not require skill-play or risk-reward.. this suggestion will encourage them to be challenge and play with risk and be reward for it… instead of reward for it first.

Sorry but some of us enjoy fast paced combat. PvE mobs are easy anyway, fighting them for five minutes each will not make it fun. And pvp… well i’m not pvper, but when I do pvp in any game I enjoy fast paced combat. Less room for mistakes and it’s exciting.

Fast paste combat is ok but should not require skill to do 80%-100% damage, is that fun? There should not be less room for mistakes, there should be room for mistakes. What is the point for learning from mistakes? Learning Curve: “the course of progress made in learning something” Combat should be about learning. not about killing fast. What is the point of challenge if this is the case?

That is why i always say there is no challenge: because it is all about who can kill the other fast in 1-2 damage. What is the point of having challenge modes if you get killed in seconds? Did you know the word Endurance is in challenging definition?

Guild Wars 2 should be a Challenging/ Enduring game: not a Game Over game .

Anyone have any good ideas for getting rid of those obnoxious players who have nothing better to do than follow you around in game? I’ve blocked, but that doesn’t
really make them go away. Report options don’t have a choice for them. I kind of think this one may have followed me while I opened map because he didn’t know what
to do, but still…he could have asked for help and I would have been glad to help. When I asked him if he was following me, etc. I got no response-this was before I blocked. I
just had to get out of game for awhile. But sheesh! How annoying!

You should block the account and then make no further attempt to interact with them directly or through a 3rd party (i.e. having a friend send an in-game mail).

If they continue to harass you submit a support ticket with as much detail as you can provide.

Why not remove the root of the problem? Why not remove all skills, traits, mechanic etc… that are responsible for the problem instead of
fixing them? From my investigation report, fixing problems is not taking serious action but removing the problem is.

most mmo xpacs give you huge maps, and things to do. anet tries to make you think a free toon slot for a new class is something to behold, when other mmo xpacs give those to you FREE.

and this xpac only opens up 3 areas in maguuma, out of the HUGE tyrian world atlas. this maguuma isnt even maps, it is areas because they are much smaller, like dry top.

and after leaving the broken personal stories to linger rotting like no one cares abt the game for nearly 3yrs, wtf makes you think this game/xpac is worth even $20, let alone $50….?

If your still playing wvw and others are too how is it too late? Also tell me how do you fix it? That the main thing ppl seems to be well and able to complain about large guild jumping from server to server but NO ONE has even gotten close to saying how to stop this or even if they are willing to say “You are not allowed to play where you want to” because at the end of the day that IS what your saying.
