With the changes to/removal of the PvP locker, how will we be able to unlock PvP unique styles like PvP Masquerade, Stalwart, Commando?

I really like this. General open-world content will benefit from this hugely. It will be great if they allow people to pick servers so guilds like TTS can coordinate Bosses. That is my only fear in this new system.

Quite mixing definitions in an attempt to garner support for arguments.

Talk about mixing definitions. You’re using a dictionary definition that basically covers everything in existence as a game definition that is far different. The Wardrobe is a revamp of the current awful system, it makes using cosmetics easier & better, but it’s not a whole new feature. Based on your definition fixing bugs would be a feature.

A.Net is disseminating information about upcoming changes. That is NOT hype and they are excited about it. What is wrong with that?

Just calling a QoL Patch a Feature Patch is over-hype. Fans need to just admit how much Anet over-hypes everything. I don’t know why I should be excited about having less content & features in 1.5 years in GW2 than in 1 year of GW1 with 3x the manpower.

There’s a fairly significant difference between “content” and “features”, especially when it pertains to games.

Arena.net has not at any point announced anything pertaining to a “content” patch.

Yes, and there is a significant difference between “features” & “quality of life”. The problem is when they make a “feature” patch & it’s fixing systems that were awful to begin with & adding a few traits, they’re being disingenuous.

I LIKE all these changes, but I’m not impressed by them. The Wardrobe is totally NOT impressive. Its essentially the current MMO standard for cosmetics but with a cost attached. Status Quo + cost is not to be praised. That’s what you expect from MMOs. They fix their mistakes.

actually no. There are several full sets of armor only available in PvP. I’d assume you’d know that if you’re so awesome at the game you can afk.

Those sets can be acquired through personal storyline. Which is… Gasp… PVE!

I have a question that has probably been answered, but I have yet to find an answer :P

Scenario: I am an RPer, so during an ‘RP session’ I may change outfits multiple times. Starting with 1 outfit, going to a 2nd, then maybe going back to the first outfit.

So, in this scenario, am I paying charges twice (for the 2 separate outfits) or three times (for each change)?

You are going to use Transmutation Crystals/Charges every single time you change the visuals of a piece of gear.

And some of the Town Clothes are turning into regular armor skins. So if you wanna change your look to certain Town Clothes, you have to use Transmutation Crystals/Charges every single time. It’s cool you can make normal armor with certain Town Clothes, but the pay-per-use is totally idiotic.

I think the argument that they will make more money from pay-per-use rather than pay-per-unlock is totally arbitrary. It’s just a knee-jerk defend-anything-Anet reaction. I haven’t seen anything to really back that up. I’ve certainly seen nearly all of my friends not buy crystals because they think paying to swap a skin is ridiculous.
I certainly haven’t used anywhere near 2000+ Crystals over the life of this game, and I love to swap my look. I just resigned myself to know that this game is brutal when it comes to assigning visuals, so I almost never pay for it. If it were unlock, I’d try to collect ones I wasn’t even using.

This may have won the “stupidest comment in the thread” award. PvE only skins for PvP? do you even know what they are doing? After April 15th, there will be no PvP or PvE armors/skins, just GW2 armors/skins. Meaning, any armor you have in PvE can now be used in PvP, and vice versa.

Except they really haven’t said anything about sets like PvP Stalwart’s set. There is currently no way to get that set in PvE. There are several sets like this.

Don’t Worry guys, you’ll have some of your Town Clothes useable as armor now! So you can pay money for Transmutation every time you want to use those Town Clothes! a healthier game!

If they really wanted a “healthier game” they would have left town clothes how they were & made them useable in combat. Done. tbh, they should have been useable in combat from the beginning.

We have enough haters in the forums btw, just saying.

So, to you, anyone who doesn’t pledge undying loyalty to Anet, no matter what what poor choices they make, is a hater?

Your logic is extremely flawed. And your devotion, blind. Every time you respond to someone who posts legitimate issues with the game your rebuttal is essentially: “You’re a hater because you don’t agree with everything Anet does. Haters are wrong & bad.” That’s not an argument.

The majority are loving the changes, it is a fact.

Can I only generalize/make assertions if I blindly salivate over everything Anet does? Is that how it works?

Instead of doing what a normal customer does: state what services I want & what i’m willing to pay, you’re saying I should assume (for no reason) that Anet will make more money this way & that for some reason it’s better for me as a customer even though this way provides me less freedom. 1. If you actually believe that Anet is going for a worse option to get less money because they are idiots, you should re-think it.

And if you think they know which method will make them more money, you’re kidding yourself. We’ve had plenty of experience in the MMO world to see that there is no magic monitization method. There are articles arguing about what is the way to go all the time. They know? please.

First, if you were right then all GS armor would still be per-person. Why make it account bound? What you’re saying id per-use is the way to go right? Then lets keep armor purchases restrictive! You’re saying fewer repeat-buys = higher profits. Nevermind that it makes for niche fan-base & bad will.

Second, I still haven’t seen anyone say they go through Transmutation Crystals to constantly swap looks. I’ve seen plenty of people say they would unlock skins though. Maybe you will, but you’ll certainly be in the minority.

Finally, I can speak for myself when I say, they would get more from me with unlocks than per-use. The current system sucks & I’m certainly not incentivized to buy any more crystals with the new system. Man, what MMO has the Store as the end-game. It’s laughable they present cosmetics in GW2 as a minor optional thing. IT’S THE END GAME. It’s bad enough most of the new cosmetics are buy-only, but now you pay to use them all.. geez. I can’t believe people are defending this system.

Also, which MMO’s have the system you describe? I’ve not come across it myself but I’d be interested to check it out.

To add a couple of old ones to the list, Perfect World and Jade Dynasty, both over 5 years old, have a “fashion stash” of sorts. I think the former even calls it a wardrobe. Both allow switching looks on the fly with hotkeys and that includes in battle. That said, getting those items in those gates is a bit closer to gw2. They’re usually in the cash shop.

These games are gear-based ones like all the others getting mentioned. They are free to play btw, if you really like them, stop playing GW2, delete it and enjoy your time otherwise. I don’t get the point behind playing a game you hate while ’’masterpieces’’ like Pefect World are out there.

Yes, everything is binary. We’re all yin yang robots. You either love every part of something with an unquestionable undying loyalty or you hate it with a seething vitriol. Yup, that’s life!

Actually, thats not at all logical, there is no extra cost for (not at 80 anyway) for changing your outfit, it costs exactly the same as it does today except today

Exactly. ie: It’s a horrid system. It’s always been a horrid system. That’s why people when “cool, a new system!! oh.. same system with more bank space” what’s your point?

One of the main tenants of a wardrobe is the ability to change clothes on the fly. Having a cost on that kills much of the appeal. I’m glad I get space back, i’m glad items are account bound, but seriously should I be patting Anet on the back for getting the cosmetic system to be almost up to date with the MMO standard?

So, do I understand it correctly that you have multiple armors with the same stats but different skins in your bank?

Also, which MMO’s have the system you describe? I’ve not come across it myself but I’d be interested to check it out.

I have several sets but with diff stats. the transmutation stones in GW2 just suck. I pay for unlocks, not consumables. DCUO, Champions, STO, Allods, GW1, Champions, LotRO all have better better cosmetic systems that either have no per-use cost, or it’s minimal in-game currency. DCUO is by far the best.

So here it is: if you were happy but now aren’t, what changed? Was it further speculation, introspection, knowledge, what? And if you were first unhappy, but are now happy, what changed?

I think it’s pretty obvious.

People saw Wardrobe they thought: “cool, I can unlock skins & use em on all my characters!” and they posted how happy they were.

Then they reread it an realized: I can unlock skins and pay money to use them. & posted about how stupid that is.

It’s very logical that people would be upset.

If you don’t want to be along for the continual, episodic ride…then GW2 is not meant for you…that was their blatant direction from the get-go and you have no excuse for not realizing that or being angry about it.

Gonna call bs on this. it was NOT their direction from the get-go. Expansion-like content was. CJ specifically at one stage during development said

“If you buy our game, you can play it, that’s it. We believe that if we are doing our job and we are making expansion content that is good enough people will buy it and continue to support our company and if we’re not making stuff that good then they won’t and that’s their choice.”

They currently just make it so you buy rewards on the GS & the only content produced is something no one would pay for. Also, saying that the LS is even close to one of the GW1 expansions is laughable.

Yes, you’d make the people who don’t normally buy anything more likely to buy, but you’d lose millions upon millions of transactions from the people who currently buy all the time because they would only have to buy once.

Making lots of people buy something once is a LOT less profitable than making a few people buy often, unless you charge a hefty premium, which then leads to less people buying once putting you right back at square one.

I highly doubt a person is going to get one set of gear & transmute it 2000 times. Whereas it’s more likely someone would transmute all 2000 to get the collection. You’re getting to a ridiculous area if you think that the sales are going to be that more for per-change. Also, if this were true there is NO way they would make the armor sets account bound. They would have kept the current ridiculously overpriced 1-use-1-character system.

I’m the type of person who loves to make new character looks & change constantly in all the MMOs I play. And I can tell you in GW2 I don’t do it at all. Paying to change is idiotic, period. I’m not going to swap costumes even though that’s what I wanted out of the wardrobe. When this comes out, i’m just going to sit on my charges in case i make more characters, so they can have something. If it were pay to unlock I’d use all my charges & buy a bunch more. I bought more than 16 costumes in GW1 & 3 in GW2.(& all on sale because they didn’t have the value & functionality of GW1 costumes). I’ve heard of plenty of people in GW2 who won’t transmute because it costs, more that transmute once, but I’ve never heard anyone who blows through crystals every time they play.

The problem is that this isn’t a wardrobe. A wardrobe is a collection of clothes that you can pick and choose and use at any time because it’s yours.

This is a unlockable skin store.

You work, grind, and put effort in to collect skin. You pay real cash for, or convert gold to gems to buy skins on the TP. Either way, you can now earn the right to pay again to use something that you’ve unlocked..

This needs to be repeated over & over. This is my entire problem with this new system. They added cool stuff by making things account bound (it’s essentially going back to the GW1 costume account bound stuff) & saving bank space, then they ruin it by keeping the crappy “pay to use” system. I want to be able to swap at any time to any look for free. I’d pay to unlock each skin but just to swap to it? eff that. So far this will just open bank space for me & nothing else. I’m not going to pay to be swapping all the time even though that would be the whole fun of a wardrobe system. Unlocking 100 skins & just having them sit in the UI because I have to pay to use them is not the point of a wardrobe.

How much I love you ArenaNet right now.

There is a difference in content patches and feature ones. A new race and zone is new content being introduced not a feature. Expansions are always divided into changes to the gameplay and systems of the game and changes to the content as in new races, zones, classes or whatever.

Oh really? so then the LS is a nothing patch? It doesn’t fit either of those. Besides Southsun was a new zone but they only advertized it shortly before it came out. Though it’s true Anet would totally over-hype a Race or Class. The truth is I don’t see anything here that is more than a back-log of tweaks, QoL updates & fixing existing bad systems.

This is supposed to be the first part, the tweaks and updates to the mechanics of the game. Which was stated by the company but people don’t bother reading.

Where did they ever say that this was just the first part of a multi-patch update?

Guess the feature thread!

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: DarksunG.9537

DarksunG.9537

Right now the list looks like the small QoL features you’d get from the LS anyways. I don’t see why they are making a big deal about this April patch. it’s just a backlog.

I thought it was major features; races, zones, classes, skills… it’s just bundled minor updates. I can’t believe it took them a year and a half to scrap the trait respec costs. They did that in GW1 in a few months. & the last 3 days of the reveal are just LFG system updates. really? this is the major feature patch? Why does Anet keep over hyping everything?

Race, zone, class in a feature patch? are you high?

Apparently you don’t know what a feature is. The things I listed are all FEATURES. updating the LFG system & removing the retrait cost is a minor QoL tweak. Half of these changes are undoing things that were bad ideas to begin with! If you call those features, then updating server stability must be a major feature to you. & if you don’t think they’d add that in the regular biweekly patches then Anet disagrees with you:

“Some of our players believe that because we are doing this Living World seasons, and these features or these big feature-builds, that it means that the features you would traditionally get in an expansion, or the content you would traditionally get in an expansion, is not something that will get added to Guild Wars 2. And that is not true at all.” – Colin Johanson

Hate to burst your bubble, but you’re alone in your thinking. Especially when they made such a big deal about this upcoming patch & keep talking about:

“We have a couple of really big Guild Wars projects cooking in the background.”

After more than a Year & a half & no expansion you’d have to be high to think that minor tweaks & a handful of traits is anything more than standard MMO patches. I’m not even sure they’ll add a real, collectible, unlockable, cosmetic system.

I like Marjory and Kasmeer as individual characters. Especially Majory, she’s tied with Taimi for my 2nd favorite of the “main” LS characters (with Rox being #1). I enjoy her “noire style” mannerisms and her character design is nice.

I can’t say I’m overly fond of the two together, though. At least not in terms of the whole “relationship”. I’m not really a huge fan of romance in general, especially when its used constantly like it has been lately with Kasmeer and Marjory. Seems every conversation between the two is at least in some way related to it.

http://i01.i.aliimg.com/wsphoto/v1/621104579_1/10pcs-pet-font-b-dog-b-font-font-b-backpack-b-font-multi-functional-font-b.jpg
I would hope at least there would be far more of the existing mobs as pets after a year & a half: Griffons, Wooly Saimoth, Raptors, Marmox & Plated Behemoths (really want those last 2!).

As for Ranger changes: the #1 on the Single Hand sword is awful. being rooted for no reason totally kills positional gameplay & it needs to go. There isn’t even any kind of trade off for being so immobile. It’s not that we should just be able to dodge, that’s just a given. It’s that we shouldn’t be immobilized at all. I would love to use sword but that alone is enough for me to never touch it. it’s horrid.

I’m kinda surprised people Aren’t talking about how pets just equal additional DPS. That is SO.. BORING.. They need to do more actively varied things. tbh, i’d rather they be 0 DPS & all kd,kb,interrupt, heal, stun, barriers etc.. something ACTIVE. Not just dps & conditions. that’s so bland.

And their “synergy” between pets & ranger is essentially “pet enhances your deeps” or “some weak boon”.
Why can’t they do things like make a barrier or stun line from your pet to you. or kb the mob to you, or something unique & active that has directly to do with the both of you. One of the things that is interesting about pets is that you can essentially be in 2 places at once. Rangers have a unique opportunity to do something with positioning. (which Anet made a big deal about) & they have almost nothing that uses that. the one thing they once had was that they could resurrect ppl.. (which was already pathetically situational)Now it’s totally worthless. The entirety of the pet/ranger, should be positional synergy, currently it’s “pet give debuff to increase deeps. pet adds direct deeps. pet gives buff for deeps” SO… BORING.

Also, you guys can’t see this due to the limitations of formatting on our forums, but a lot of these points were made by many of you guys. As such, they are much more emphasized in the email threads and discussions we have internally.

Allie Has there been any feedback from the team on making Pets more unique? Dyable, Armor, packs, something more about the visual customization?

Lol, while I love the idea of a Norn being built like a freaking tank, we both know that isn’t realistic. Bones and flesh of Norn guardian versus Human Necromancer are essentially equal

Umm.. so you’re saying that your legs can take as much punishment as, say, a bears? You really have no idea what you’re talking about.

Hey now, no need to be hostile.

No, seriously, you don’t understand how physiology works. Just because a human is made of bone & muscle, doesn’t mean it can take the same amount of punishment as another animal made of bigger, stronger bone & muscle. Saying “we both know that isn’t realistic” is just factually wrong.

Actually, I think they should introduce a male gay couple, because why not?

Tyria won’t be able to reproduce fast enough to keep functioning societies at this rate.
Mordermoth won’t have anyone to kill!

so much sylvari favoritism

This main protagonist – the guy who saves us all from Zhaitan – is a sylvari. The main antagonist – the biggest threat since Abadon – is a sylvari. The first elder dragon added to the game since launch looks to be tied to the sylvari. The sylvari starting zone has as many jumping puzzles as all other starting zones combined. And before Lion’s Arch fell, the sylvari portal stood higher than the rest. Can you tell the devs really like the sylvari?

omg yes… I’m SO.. SICK.. of Sylvari… And it looks like we’re gonna have an entire PS revolving around the Sylvari. Ok, we get it Anet, you love them. you don’t have to make a game that revolves around them.

To add insult to injury, the 2nd most played race: Norn has gotten the least focus of anyone since launch. of course Brahm is the least developed, wimpy of the new DE even though he’s the race that should be the strongest (although they retconned that). So much personal bias in the writing.

For the Living Story at least, that’s only because we happened to get Mordremoth first. Expect heavy emphasis on the Asura when we go after Primordus, Norn when we go after Jormag, etc. Hang in there. Your race of choice will get its day.

we’ve already had a focus on the Sylvari. Now we get another Sylvari story? How long do you expect people to “Hold in there”? 4 years?

Sylvari are the only race that do not have a lot of GW1 material backing up their lore and appearances, and considering how new they are, they need all the attention they can simply get.

Oh please.. the Norn still have less lore than the Sylvari. Jora. that’s their whole contribution to the lore. They even made sure to ad dialog mocking the breaking of Jormags tooth. Just so they could play down the importance. They are dumber than all the other races, they aren’t even as strong as the Charr anymore, they have almost no magical abilities(& the shaman’s are meaningless now that Scarlet & the Asura could just pop in & out of the mists willy nilly), they can’t even craft as well as the Sylvari now. It’s laughably obvious the people writing just don’t like the Norn that much & love the syvari & they’ve made sure to make them the most throw-away race in the game.

My math is not the best, but unless I miscalculate something I would say that there were way more non-Sylvari involved in the defeat of Zhaitan than there were Sylvari.

Maybe you can explain how # of each race = focus? Because there is more focus on Trehearn though all the story than any single person.

Rate the LS as a whole

Gameplay content: 7.5/10
for free updates to keep people playing, the actual content was pretty cool. Marrionette was awesome, loved the crystal hunt in the Zephr. ToN was pretty cool.

Story:5/10
The worst part of the story was that is felt like a fan fic. like someone’s personal predilections. It didn’t feel like someone who had a passion for the GW lore, but someone who wanted to shoe-horn their biases into it. Tyria bowed to them, not the other way around. And it looks like we’ve got WAY more fetish incoming with an entire PS focused around the Sylvari. It wasn’t enough that the game was already slanted towards the Sylvari, shows disdain for anything Norn & is apparently nauseated by anything that keeps GW1 the way it was… now we have another entire massive story with Sylvari in the middle.

Conclusion
It doesn’t actually make the world feel alive. I thought it would, but it doesn’t really work. I see that having a single story that effects specific places doesn’t make things actually feel living. The story wasn’t even good, so I got nothing from that & there were no major features like new Races, Classes, Zones, skills… After a year of it, I think would have rather just had features packed into the game. If they want the game to feel alive they need to add far more ways to interact with the world than combat & canned mini games. The mobs also have to be dynamic. Move around the world, take over places & set down camps.
Worst of all: after a year & a half we have far less content than we get with an expansion. So the fact is an “expansion’s worth of content” would take 3+ years from the LS. On top of the cosmetic endgame being the Gem Store they don’t even have a cosmetic system like DCUO, making collecting skins impossible because they spend that time on an awful story arc.

I really can’t grasp what Anet thinks is a good idea anymore. I used to be the biggest fanboi, now the LS alone is making me play less & less.

Not ANet’s proxy, our proxy. We whined and ranted and rambled about how we want nothing but Scarlet gone as soon as possible. So we kill her, without even giving her the trope-moment of explaining her plan.
Exactly what we wanted, then.

It’s great that the only actual feedback that was put in was to mock how much we dislike Scarlet. Instead of doing something satisfying like having the floor of her ship crumple while she’s on a rant & have her fall & get ripped apart by the drill, they just mock us by making a scene that points out “players don’t like my story”. It’s very telling.

Lol @ all the people thinking I was being sarcastic. Can a person not genuinely be happy and enthused about something? I may have been a bit over the top in the initial post, but that was right after I had just completed it all.

Can a person not genuinely criticize something that has lots of genuine issues?
