The Ultimate one is WAY too much, the 4k gems + “extra bank tab” would be enough.

Disagree. The items only have a short term effect on your character and don’t harm the economy in any way. The items that DO have a long term effect can be bought with gems… The 4000 gems can, that way, be spent on more cosmetic and useful items like eternal harvesting sickles or picks or axes.

I’d definitely pay €100 for a package like that.

You’ve got to be kidding… there is no way in hell they would offer that much. Yeah, sure it would be great, but Anet is the last place you’d get that much value for your money.

i don’t really get it… nothing against the lgbt community, have several friends who are, and legally i think they should have more rights, but why the need to put hot topic issues in a fantasy video game? In a game about unity and fighting dragons just seems like a good way to stirr up controversy and have more religion debates in trade chat and can see otherwise good people who just happen to have a religious belief getting banned just for having a discussion (even if in a polite/friendly manner)

why not put obama or hillary flyers up, or crosses or other religious symbols ingame too? Thought the whole point of a fantasy video game was to escape reality.

bunny trail but… why do voters even care about social issues atm when we are billions or trillions in debt atm in the usa. everything else seems kind of irrelevant in comparison to the giant problem that isn’t going away.

again (just to make it clear and i dont get banned for even posting this lol) i support the agenda, but I don’t get the need for it in a game. let the politicians and preachers fight in real life, ingame i just want to fight dragons and talk in trade chat without debates.

In my experience, anything that starts with “nothing against the lgbt community” is probably going to be against the lgbt community, just like anything that starts “nothing against black people” is probably going be racist.

I always hope to be pleasantly surprised, but I wasn’t this time, and I doubt I will be the next time either. :’)

if u actually read what i said… there isn’t anything against the community. Specifically said i have friends who are and also support their rights. I don’t like intolerance anymore than you do.

in reply to lord ahran: I didn’t say “being” gay was a political issue, i 100% agree with u that its a way of life and am completely cool with it. Just seems like the whole “debate” is a political issue and a hot button social issue at that judging by how passionate both sides get talking about it. To me might as well promote obamacare, or limited government, or christianity, or wiccans, or taxes, or other things that tend to upset people one way or another. I just don’t like people fighting over real life hot topics when I’m trying to have fun playing a game. That’s all i meant. If my friend comes out I will pat him on the back and say good for you bud But if 2 friends start fighting or arguing I will walk away since I don’t like confrontation.

ps: <3 Game of thrones. Difference between watching tv and a game with live interaction/chats where people tend to get vocal.

“I have LGBT friends” does not actually make you exempt from saying troubling things against the community, just as you did in your earlier comment.

If you think you aren’t saying something against the LGBT community, let me tell you that you might want to reconsider.

Since when can’t people speak their mind? If someone has an unpopular opinion they should just shut up now?
Just like you have a right to be and have your opinions – so does he. He might be wrong or not – stop using the fact that you’re different as some form of magical shield.

The message seems to be: “what I like makes me morally superior”. It’s not enough for people to be tolerant, you have to agree & support & like. It’s hilariously hypocritical.

They really need to remake all “wing” back items to be full animated. & they need to look more like actual wings. They need:
idle animation (closed when standing around. Much tighter than they are now)
jump animation (open & spread when you jump. maybe 1 flap)
landing animation (billow out)
hit animation (kinda flinch out when hit)
a small amount of physics.. not the current gooey slow stretch.

We pay money for these. they should be decent. static or “looping flap” wings are super lazy.

Talk about not “getting it”. The only reason people are fixated on the whole base game/expansion thing is because its too expensive. Period. & because of that they are trying to come up with reasons it’s too expensive. & the one everyone seems to cling to is that they must be paying for the core game too, because $50 is too much for this little expac.

I don’t know much about ground work, but I’m pretty sure you don’t spend 2 years building your house before starting it.

They’ve pretty much said this expansion is going to be on the lean side. Which may not be a very clever move because a lot of people are going to look at this first expansion and most likely think “is this it?”. For $50. Would you expect those people to return for the next expansion? (If they even think this one is worth buying in the first place).

Yeah man. It’s annoying the Fan Knights mantra is “wait & see” when they said they’ve released all major features & have repeatedly tried to “manage expectations” on the size of the added maps & pretend it’s “feature heavy” even though most of the features are rearranging existing traits so they can more easily sell us new ones & progression through arbitrary gating.
Yes, we don’t know everything about the expansion, but we know enough to say it’s kinda small.

First, $50 is within the mmo industry standard for expansions. That’s just the way it is and anyone who suggests otherwise is completely ignorant about the state of the industry.

That’s just not true anymore. I got wotlk for $40 when it came out. Heavensward is $30 a gmg. & the STO Romulous expansion was free in a f2P game. I think the only one ignorant about the state of the industry is you.

1) WotLK is 7 years old. The times have changed, kid. Modern world of warcraft expansions are $50. See: Warlords of Draenor.

2) Incorrect. Heavensward is a $40 game. See: Square-Enix online store.

Please don’t talk if you are so .

Yes, wotlk is old. the original Zelda nes game was $80, what’s your point? Being old doesn’t indicate games were cheaper. Yes, Heavensward is $40 at Square-Enix online store. Unfortunately you proved you were “completely misinformed about what you’re saying” with that: http://www.siliconera.com/2015/06/18/final-fantasy-xiv-heavensward-25-off-as-early-access-about-to-fire-up/

& I love how you ignored STO’s 2 free expansions in a f2P game or NWO’s 2 free expansions in a f2P. Kid.

I think it’s poor policy and bad decision making to offer the core game for free with an expansion pack that shares the same original retail value as the core game. Considering that the core game is now worth half of its original retail value it immediately comes across as a sham and that the players are really paying for the core game and expansion with none of the benefits that comes with buying a 2nd core game.

This is what’s confusing and frustrating a lot of players. Saying you just want the expansion pack separately won’t cost you any less because according to ANet it’s the expansion you’re paying for, so you’d still be paying £34 for HoT with or without the core game. To me that is massively overpriced for what little is being offered.

Yup. Again, the problem isn’t the details of core game/expansion vet/new blah blah.. it this:
$50 is too much for this small expansion Especially when most of the “features” are Anet fixing current systems so they work properly & setting the game up so it’s easier to produce or adding “progression” by adding lazy content gates like mushrooms or allowing you to finally kill a mob because you have to grind to remove the “invulnerable” flag on it.

There are some suggestions for making the HoT prices look better and more fair:

STANDARD EDITION
- HoT
- Character Slot
- Total Make Over Kit

DELUXE EDITION
- HoT
- Character Slot
- Total Make Over Kit
- 1 Black Lion Ticket
- Bang Expansion Tab or Bag Expansion
- Miniature Revenant Rytlock
- Mordremoth’s Bane Guild Hall Decoration
- Heart of Thorns Glider Skin

ULTIMATE EDITION
- HoT
- Character Slot
- Total Make Over Kit
- 1 Black Lion Ticket
- Bang Expansion Tab or Bag Expansion
- Miniature Revenant Rytlock
- Mordremoth’s Bane Guild Hall Decoration
- Heart of Thorns Glider Skin
- 4000 GEMS

PRE-PURCHASE BONUSES (for any Edition)
- Access to the Beta
- Special Title
- Booster Multi pack
- Heart of Thorns Head Gear Skin ( a Thorny Halo or a Thorny Circlet)

Those are just a few small editions, some of them useful, some of them unique, changes that can make people feel that their money have a better value.

Hmm.. Maybe.. I highly doubt they’d give a bag expansion. & the Heart of Thorns Head Gear Skin sounds dumb. But they should be adding the character slots, BL Tickets & something else. Maybe they should just add gems. 1000/2000/5000.

In the end what they add/how they add it or how they lower the price is not the point. The point is:
the expansion is too expensive as is. They need to make it worth the cost or lower the price. & from what I’ve seen most people find it about $10 too expensive.

So bogotter make a video about the debacle.

When HoT is coming, then older version of GW2 is no longer worth anything – maybe some symbolic amount of money, but nothing more.

Its fine that Anet dont force new people to pay for it, cause they’re not able to play this version of GW2 (as we played it) anymore. This is the past.

We was able to lvling our characters, discover all the world, play pvp (ranked, unranked, tournaments, esl etc), wvw seasons, and do all this cool stuff for all this time, while new players wasnt able to do it.

We used what we paid for. We received many hours of fun, and new players, which can buy HoT + GW2 cant back to these days. They’re going to start a new adventure, witch a brand new accounts, while we’ve got accounts with lvled characters, pvp skills, cool titles, minies, etc etc…

Think of it this way

I agree, the White Knights are complaining too much. Especially when they are happy with the price.

Before this gets merged you all need to realize the expansion the actual expansion is $50.

That amount of money for such a small expansion is too high. Even if it had 10 zones. That’s why people are focusing on the core inclusion. it’s unthinkable to many to pay that much for this so ppl assume they are paying for the “bonus”. it’s not remotely the amount of content from the core game.
To a player that rationalizes…

Here is a solution to all argument.Want it, have money for it, Buy it. Want it, no money for it, save up money. Don’t want it, don’t buy it. It is that simple. All the arguments and rioting are getting ridiculous.

All I see are people complainig about not getting gems or chracter slits for buying the expansion. You already do not have to pay a subscription fee. I have never seen a community of players whine about not getting free stuff added to a game so much. Maybe it is the non subscription that has created this mentality but arenanet does not owe you guys anything but a game that you have bought to play. Thats it period.

Talk about a straw-man… yours can stomp on buildings.

It’s hard for you so i’ll explain it: People think the price is too high for what they are getting. So they are suggesting something to make it more valuable if the price won’t go down. (in this case, adding a character slot) This, to them, would make the $50 cost worth it.
I know your argument is so bad you need to hyperbolize & strawman, but no one is “whining for free stuff”.

Core game is a free bonus to a set Heart of Thorns price to incentivize new players to get the game and not have them pay double.

Your post is pointless.

Nobody misses you. Go away.

…while ignoring existing players…..

Ain’t you an Entitled Ethan?

how hard is it to make another purchase option of “xpac only edition” at slightly lower price?

Because THIS IS THE EXPANSION PRICE. Live with it. You don’t pay more for the Core game. But reading is hard, I know.

So the logic behind the fanboys is:
The expansion price is unreasonably high because the price of the expansion IS unreasonably high? Gotcha.

What I’ve seen of the expansion doesn’t justify to me the cost. Maybe this will change when they show more stuff but if it doesn’t I guess I’m shelving this game till it goes on sale for a better price.

Yeah, one thing I think is interesting is that they still haven’t told us how many maps we’re getting & how big they are. (or how many new armor & weapons skins to the game or even what the Masteries all are) But they are very willing to sell it to us!

Red flag.

I will personally be happier in my life and my gaming if I never see you in the heart of maguuma. Please do not purchase this. It’s too much for you.

GW2, home of the friendliest community in the MMO scene…

Oh we’re extremely open and welcoming. That’s friendly. This isn’t about being welcoming, this is not listening to the QQing of the people who are already here.

Hahah, your custom definition of friendly is so advantageously unique.
You’re welcoming of new people until they show that they don’t think like you, then you tell them to gtfo & lable them “whiners”. No, you’re not friendly at all. You’e an arrogant White Knight that labels any questioning of Anet’s actions as unacceptable.

Most people here are saying, essentially “this is too kitten ed expensive” which is normal behavior when it comes to determining the value of something. Noone is saying it should be free. or that they “deserve” the expansion. The idea that everyone is QQing or somehow over reacting is pretty much unfounded. But probably necessary for you to justify your gtfo outrage.

HAHAHAHA. oh god.. it’s like ANET is going out of their way to lose respect. these prices are just silly.

Can’t wait to see the white Knights justify how this meager expansion costs more than the GW1 full Campaigns +2 character slots.

Why are people crying over the price so much? Have you never bought an xpac for any MMO ever? Every MMO i’ve played the xpac is $50+, and if you believe the amount of content in the xpac is lacking , please go back and look everything you are getting.

You must not play very many MMOs. “look everything you are getting”? you have to be joking. That’s like telling someone to look at how much room is the $400k 100sq ft shack has. The amount of stuff in this expansion isn’t impressive by any means. it’s standard to small.

We don’t know how many zones where getting blah blah blah, but I highly doubt it’s anywhere near 1/4 of what the base game had. & everything they’ve been saying is like they are trying to prepare us for a smaller than normal amount.

What you call something isn’t what it is. It’s LARGELY irrelevant.

It’s more relevant what the player calls it or thinks it is then the company. the company is going to use whatever name gets you to buy it. the gamer is going to use whatever name best represents their impression of it. Saying “This is an expansion because Anet calls it one.” is more meaningless than what the OP said.

You can call a horse a table, but the moment you try to eat dinner on it, you’re in for a rough time.

I’m going to assume you knew your were wrong in the 1st place because you brought up this horribly disingenuous & inapplicable straw man. A horse & a table have almost no relation. Whereas Expansion & DLC are essentially just measurements of the scale & quality of the same exact thing. If someone offers me a large drink & I get it back & I can drink the whole thing in 1 gulp, I don’t consider that large. & I’ll tell ppl that it’s more of a small than a large. I’d also argue that the person selling it is trying to pull a fast one even though there is no empirically “large” measurement. But saying I’m calling it “a table” is poor logic at best.

I needs to provide enough content timewise to compete with other expansions. This isn’t just a single storyline that is being added to an already existing game. It’s a fundamental change of some of the game’s basics. You have to be pretty uncharitable to call this just a DLC and I don’t think most people will.

I agree. So? It doesn’t mean the OP is improperly conveying their opinion. I would probably call this an expansion too, but I’d also make it extremely clear that it looks small for an expansion.

Whether you call this an expansion or not is largely irrelevant.

Very untrue. How people label the product is a quick way for people to categorize their impression on the amount of content, the quality of content, how many if any features are added & the expected cost. It’s a quick way to encapsulate your opinion on the entire thing. You’re just getting semantic for the sake of argument.

Masteries too easy?

I don’t think the mastery’s are designed to be end game grind content either. For that we still got the legendary’s (specially the new ones)

You’re kidding, right? Masteries were specifically designed to be end-game progression.
That’s exactly the gap they are supposed to fill.
" We want to introduce a new framework for endgame progression and a meaningful way for players to grow their characters and their experience once they’ve reached the maximum level in the game."
I can’t grasp how you could not think that Masteries are end-game grind/progression. Every single thing about them indicates that if not having Anet just saying “this is the new end-game progression”

Ugh.. I can’t think of a more boring race option than the Largos. fantastic, blue elves with Generic Korean MMO Armor & laughably silly fin-wings.

Tengu please. Something DIFFERENT & new. we don’t need different colored people.

Liked the ready up, name still doesn't fit.

A couple notes on Dragonhunter. We went with this name because we felt it was evocative of the medieval witch hunters. Guardians consider themselves protectors of the innocent. Followers of their faith be it in honor, valor, etc. The origin of the dragonhunter is a more subtle nuanced version of this. Guardians fight for justice and the dragonhunter faction believes justice is the eradication of dragons and their minions. I understand this is a lot more high concept than Mesmer but at the end of the day we felt like we wanted to try and push a more mature theme here. I hope this helps explain our thinking. We had other generic names in mind but felt like it was important to have a mix of spec names that are generic fantasy, more Tyrian fantasy, and more high concept. This one falls more in the third category.

Thanks,

Jon

Subtle, nuanced, mature, high concept? Wow..Really? No. None of those buzz words fit. & the idea of “big game hunter” doesn’t fit with any of that either. It fits a cheesy “big hunter guy that hunts dragons as big game”. Witch Hunter works far better. Every player is “Dragon Hunter” based on your “high concept” description. & it sounds dumb. The only thing that really matters is that it sounds dumb for a Guardian.

Have to agree, name does suck. It just feels boring & entirely outside of the Guardian flavor. For a Warrior? yeah I could get it. But if you list all the Guardian traitline names & stuff “Dragonhunter” sticks out like a cartoony sore thumb.
Looking forward to more control but after looking at it for a bit this is actually pretty underwhelming. Traps? ehh.. Not only are they very non-guardian but that a very odd gameplay setup. The abilities don’t seems strong or even that interesting. Traps that stop mobs for a few seconds? I hope it’s not another 30 sec cooldown control. “control” in GW2 has consisted of making the enemies hiccup, or stutter. Never actually shut down. Stopping a projectile with a projectile? unless we’re shooting a Gatling gun I wouldn’t expect it to be very useful. The “new mechanic” is pretty weak sauce. Comparing Alacrity with tweaking virtues? especially ones that do almost the exact same thing in different ways… eh.

You guys went overdrive on the Mesmer but with the Guardian it seems like you kinda phoned it in. Not sure why Anet dislikes the Guardian so much but..

Also. there are lots of ppl getting reeeeeaaaly sick of Anet making every class, spec, weapon & gear set balanced around PvP. There are WAY more ppl playing PvE. either split, or stop it.
