Seriously, we are about to get our own vial of salt. Dragon banner issues ? Dodge left i guess? Aoe of 2 and 5 skill is really slow.
The problem is not that, it’s the Dragon rage 15k auto attack road of fire hidden under the enemy zergs name tags when you push them cast by a player with a ridiculous invulnerable uptime and a breakbar
Dont forget also hidden by the “less visual noise” optimisation by Anet. Many times I dont even know what AoE hit me, because its not seen on the ground.
Wouldnt surprise me the slightest if the population is based solely on EB activity. I mean think about it. Servers should have dropped alot in population if the borders was a major part of the activity calculation. I mean they are 75% of WvW and get like 5% of the activity.
The event, is more for smaller groups and roamers to do to help them to take objectives.
Uh… no. Smaller groups will take 15+ minutes to finish the event. A zerg can do it in a couple of minutes.
The event is obviously made for a borderzerg to swoop in, get it before the enemy server can even react and then cap everything that’s halfbroken on the entire map.
The ease of capping afterwards for roaming and small groups also assume the border is already flipped not long ago. Taking a T3 keep with the oasis event make little difference to roamers – it will still take ages to cap. Again, the event is obviously made for entire border zergs that can quickly exploit the event results.
Well, many people said we hated the new pirateship meta and true to their form, Anet offer us the ultimate pirateship meta!
Consider this video. 1 player is the “gunner”, the rest is basicly just the crew that keep him going. Now imagine say 4-5 more “gunners” with banners. They can fire in sequence, they can fire a broadside. Organize another 4-5 to handle the other side of the ship and we could even slip between groups and fire two rolling broadsides.
Its just so… beautifull.
It’s hard for me to believe that this ridiculousness was intentional.
Look at all the other things affecting WvW. Its not ridiculous at all. Obviously they planned for WvW upgrades to be behind a 5000+ gold paywall, just as they planned the oasis event on desert to completely ruin gameplay. Any other thought would be highly illogical. They dont just put in a class with random numbers on its skill. The amount of damage that CoR does in WvW is planned.
I seriously doubt it. They still need to keep the servers running, so its not without costs. I never played original guild wars but they dont have a gemstore, right? So no income. IE no reason to give it for free.
That said, I just looked it up on Steam and was quite surprised that gw and its expansions still has a fairly high cost.
Well there is probably less players by now, but I still see plenty of them. Full world exploration and doing story is actually pretty rewarding, if you got the patience. If you get lucky on the roll, a 70+ zone can easily give 10g on completion. Hell I even got the dagger precursor from a story lootbag not long ago, lol
BTW the most awesome stuff I’ve ever seen with dragon banner: 5 guys with a dragon banner roaming around, chasing single players! <3
I’d like to see that with 3 banners though. It would be way more awesome.
Didn’t read all the replies, but to the OP. This is exact reason why WvW needs to be Megaserver. Any server below tier 3 has little to none WvW activity, and it’s a real kitten shame because WvW is so much freakin’ fun.
No, its why the borders need to be megaserver.
EoTM was a “solution” to all 4 maps having long queues. WvW is working as intended with EB only. Its time to bring it into a single unified WvW with 1 EB for every 3 servers + generated battle instances.
I’m afraid that pic doesnt show anything either. You really need a video of them actually wall hacking. They could have a mesmer, they could have knocked down a wall or a door (you can say the gates are full but the pic obviously doesnt show it either).
Did they go inside? From what I can tell, they are outside the forcefield and thus outside the keep.
We’re only seeing the beginning. Imagine when the amount of guilds having access to this increase a thousand fold and its use creep down to smaller groups.
Since its using the GW2 api, of course its perfectly legal. Anet made the api so that this can be done.
Now, why on earth Anet would to expose features that make automated tp flipping from outside the game possible is beyond me.
If someone whisper you and challenge to a fight like that… look the other way and go somewhere else. Chances that its going to be a fair fight is next to nil.
Why so many daredevils and mesmers would run together is simple – evasion cascade effect. Even if they individually drop like flies to anyone with half a brain, its almost impossible to focus target against such groups.
can we make Barricades mean something?
Turn them into walls… that can be hit by players. Make them something you have to actually choose… “Do we take the time to take this down.. or do we go the long way around”Currently they are just a minor speed bump, no different then a sentry.
Whats that supposed to make for a difference?
If it take 30 seconds to walk around a barricade as opposed to 5 minutes killing it, you walk around it.
If a zerg can kill it faster than 30 seconds, they kill it. Any other group walk around it.
It doesnt matter if the barricade has 1000hp, 10,000hp or a million hp. The critical mass of a zerg downing it faster than a smaller group can walk around is the same. If you dont want peopke walking through such a wall, it should have been part of the tower.
Which is why they are completely pointless and should be removed.
…or you just jump and climb and jump over it, right… why aren’t more people just jumping over the barricades? you don’t have to destroy them, find the spot and hop on over already
Have you actually done this yourself with consistency? In my experience very few barricades sit low enough to be bypassed on the leaning plank. I have found a whooping one. I’ve even seen the videos of it before but I am unable to replicate it on my Asura even with leap skills.
Either way, such a thing only further proves the point that they should be removed.
I went into EotM yesterday for some action as EB was just about dead.
Got a shock though, at our spawn point – just 2 of us – no commander tags and no green dots on mini-map – waited a while but no one else showed up so left.
No idea how many EotM instances there are – any way to find out?
No way to find out how many there are, but if you join late in a match and you dont taxi in by friends to a populated instance, forget about it. You will land in a low populated crap instance everyone has already abandoned probably because its been completely unbalanced for a while.
The best instances you will find is right on match reset, the very first in line.
This really isnt any different from how its always been. If someone cowardly run away, just let them. Count it as a victory. Run the other way yourself. Its always been rock-paper-scissor in duels even though some people like to think its “skillfull” when they own that build that in no way can defeat their build. You think we enjoyed hunting nike warriors as necros? WvW at its best is all about small group fights such as 5v5, where tactics and player skill under real pressure start to shine.
Also, p2w ftw.
mmm no problem for the sarcasm… even tho with vuln (+25%) – wvw stuff (the +20% vs guards-lords) – traits – might and that +50%…
well… from 800 to 4805 is a big insane amount of increase… kind 600%…
![]()
a bit to much from the +100/150% that would come out from boosters-traits-vuln-might
Still, broken defiance bar. It boosts damage by quite a bit.
Also that bomb hit was a critical hit. 800 is the base damage, so well over 2K crit damage with voulnerability and might and crap. Going to 4.8K on that is not 600%, only about twice the damage. Which make sense with a broken defiance bar (in fact, I think that would be possible even without it broken, critical hits numbers generally doubles vs zerged bosses).

It was always my impression that every server got a home map.
If you eliminate the duplicates, who gets the “home”?
They did on alpine. On desert, due to the way the waypoints have changed and the nw/ne towers being pointless for defense (they are easier to cap from bay/hills than from garri), its no longer a home border with advantage to the defender.
So the answer to your question – no one.
Just like now.
Sometimes I wish they would have gone all the way instead of making the kitten half-baked version of alpine. A map like EB (triangle layout) or EoTM (again, triangle layout) would have made an easy transition to a reduction of “borders”.
(edited by Dawdler.8521)
Oh how lovely that Storm is here.
Welcome… to die!
And no, you can’t ignore your home BL and still win – would be a stupid descision to do so as the stuff on your BL is easier to hold than enemy objectives on EB.
Your corner EB: 2 camps, 4 towers, one keep = 75 PPT + SM = 110 PPT
BL: 6 camps, 3 keeps, 4 towers = 145 PPT
Of course you can. My server is literally holding nothing on our home border (yesterday primetime, everything was capped by enemies and T2-3, lol). Or any other border for that matter. Still seems to be winning the matchup due to nightcapping.
The real question is why do we even have borderlands?
They have clearly outlived their usefullness. No one want to play on the borders anymore. The population isnt there. The new border is designed with the waypoints as EB so there is no longer any “home” border, just scrap 2 of them, period.
Well you got range. The problem is that the pistol is inherently best used as a condi weapon in combination with an offhand pistol. This go very poorly with the sheild.
So the answer is – nothing. It offer absolutely nothing.
If the engie could dual weapon, then pistol/shield/hammer could work great. But he cant. So meh.
Yeah not impressed by anything coming. Don’t know what the hype with Crowfall is dosent even look very RvR.
CU is being developed by some of the original DAoC crew. It is more of an old school MMO style and not very action driven which is a drawback to me but I am sure others will appreciate a throwback MMO playstyle.
Crowfall has some of the biggest MMO industry legends working on it including Koster of SWG fame. At its core the officers of the company making Crowfall have extensive open world PvP backgrounds and it shows in the way the game works with avatars (toons) effectively being gear and matches having a variety of victory conditions and duration. The game is also action oriented more so than even GW2. IMO Crowfall is VERY ambitious, has some big names that have made some very successful MMOs and is far enough along to believe they can deliver.
Both games are coming from independent studios which could easily run into financing issues down the road but as we have seen with Everquest Next, nobody is immune from that pill.
It doesnt really matter. Neither is a immediete threat to GW2 – AFAIK Crowfall is probably at least 2 years away and CU 8+ months or so, plus they are still going with subscription last I heard – CU is pretty much doomed to failure unless they go against industry standard and set it to a couple of bucks or three a month.
However, now on T2 at least, its about like coverage every now and then during the day, but at NA prime its got a lot of coverage in EB and that’s about it.
Indeed that’s about it. Yesterday in EU T4 primetime we had ~60 man queue on EB and outmanned in all 3 borders. Yeah that’s how kittening bad it is and how much people despise the borders. Lets not even mention the coverage during the day. The victory of the matchup will solely be determined by the efforts of the night/morning capping crews. WvW working as intended I suppose :/
I know we shouldn’t ask for spoilers, but how’s 2016 so far?
I don’t want to give too much away but its not too bad.
You forgot the spoiler tag.
Personally I predict 2016 will be exactly the same as 2015 – death, disease, famine, economical and political turmoil, wars, terrorism and we’re never gonna see another Firefly season.
I highly recommend trying all races, if nothing else for achievements, heh.
Lately? Lately?!?!?!
They released HoT, completely broke WvW, made everyone angry and went dead silent. Not a single word. Of course they posted in every other forum – including pointless troll threads – arranged sPvP tournaments and released tons of patches. It was only some weeks ago that they finally said something about WvW, a vague promise that sometime in the future they might do stuff. WvW is still broken btw, theres more bugs than ever that essentially brings the game back to beta stage. They admit none of these bugs. Well except the walls thats been fixed multiple times (they are still bugged).
So Anet being “quiet” here on the general forum is just lol.
A sneak peak at four changes coming to WvW early next year was well received by the community. I can only assume you missed it.
And I mentioned it in the post you quoted. I can only assume you missed it.
Also I believe it when I see it. If they cant even fix simple things that they themselves broke (make lords spawn/walk back to the capping circle kitten and fix the godkitten walls already), I’m not that inspired with confidence.
Since the Lord is buffed, its 5x damage or so lol.
In WvW, it can be the sole reason that cause you to win outmanned fights. Just this morning, I won a 1v3 because of the function gyro and stab core and I have had plenty of other situations where it has made all the difference. Before you ask, all 3 where tankish zerg builds so mediocre damage on me (2 guards and a druid, gg trying to spike a downed one without stab).
So really, its pretty much amazing in WvW and completely redundant and pointless in PvE.
I main both Warrior and Engi. Scrapper made engi a bruiser, with the hammer, which is the sum of a lot of warrior weapons (GS, Shield, Hammer…) with the utility of an engi.
ask choovanski. He will tell you the same (more or less)
But it hasnt really replaced anything – the Warrior in WvW was obsolete before the Scrapper came along. The only reason we brought warriors was for banner and perma-speed (netiher of which the Scrapper provide). Speed was replaced long ago by Guardian marks and bannering has gone out of style in favor of pirateshipping and steamroll pushes. Warrior hammer stun pushes? Oh man… that’s like years ago.
That said the Scrapper is a fun frontliner.

Yeah we have had this discussion before. They did raise concerns and Anet launched it anyway.
S1 is doable if ANet allows time travel through story jounral and players don’t mind another taxi wars with lfg.
There is no point really.
What they should do is recreate core parts of LS1 as fractal instances. Think about it. Fractals is the perfect tool and its already in the game. It would also give Anet time to focus on a living story from beginning to end, then after that they can create these “historical” fractals. Maybe not a 100% representation, but something that tells what happened during key parts of the story (designed kitten man instances of course).
Thats probably space for the new gated WvW upgrades. Like how you need to build your own keep there for 10,000 gold in order for the guild to be able to cap keeps in the future, or 20,000 gold to allow taking supply from camps.
They broke it a couple of weeks ago, yes. Seems to have happened in two stages – first the join squad appeared on map, but couldnt be clicked (like it was greyed out) and then the ability to click a tag just went away. At least thats my experience?
I just assumed it was another Anet “feature”.
… Tengu dont have wings. How the hell are they supposed to fly, lol?
The entire point of living world season 1 was to make a true living world. A world where timed moved on, instead of being in a perpetual frozen state. It achieved this gallantly. It made the PvE world come alive. You cannot redo it because… well, its in the past. Was it harsh that people missed it if they couldnt attend? Well yes. That’s how time works.
GW2 definetly lost something unique when they stopped doing this.
I honestly dont see why it should be needed. I’m not even one of those types going “oh but WvW is supposed to be PvP only boooo!” but encouraging too much static defense make the game come to a grinding halt – its one of the major reasons the desert border sucks kitten . The shield generators are already stupid strong.
VERY IMPORTANT
If you reduce the cost of catas, but not rams then why would you ever ram again? If catas cost as much supply as rams why not always go for an undefended wall as opposed to a gate with extra guards, cannons, burning oil, and that can have defensive siege shoot through the gate.
I’m all for reducing the supply cost of catas, but I think something should be done with rams then to make them a more enticing option. Maybe increase their damage to gates, so they can drop a gate noticeably faster than a cata can drop a wall?
Gates already have less HP than walls, you can bring one down noticably faster. Thats why rams are often prefered by zergs and catas by roamers even when the gate is an option, the constant guards and defense around a door make it annoying (a zerg dont care).
Oh the irony, considering Alpha can only hurt doors, compared to Omega that can hurt walls as well.
Honestly, I cant think of any other 3 year old game that suddenly went back to being an alpha version. Will we see GW2 re-release soon? Another beta?!
And in comes a 30 man guild and go “hey isnt that the crappy pug commander from another guild that we dont like?” commander reported as traitor, cant make any more siege.
You are never going to match other zerg-effective classes like guards or necros, so I would say just forget about trying.
I build my scrapper in zergs exactly like I do when roaming except I sneak, flank, penetrate deep, single out stragglers and launch surprise attacks apart from the zerg. Running on the commander is boring. The scrapper is a special forces unit, use it like you would a thief. Best would of course be to have 5 buddies so you can sneak gyro into the backline.
Yes and no. Unfortunetly, desert border is a few yes and a dozen no.
In some aspects, verticality can make a decently interesting area. North of hills is a great example. You got the high bridge, the wider field next to it, the tower straight north and the canyons into the camp. Every area seem to serve its own little purpose. Its not so bad in moderation.
But then you got entire west hills where you just look at it, raise your arms and go wtf is this kitten?!?. Verticality purely for the sake of verticality. It serves zero purpose. Its the same with pretty much all the lands surrounding garri, the deep canyon, the oasis, the entire western part of the map etc…
On alpine, the high ground at least served a specific purpose to either protect the keeps and towers (garri, hills, nw/ne tower) or it was in decent moderation (central area, to create some more interesting fights around caps). I cant think of any wasted space off the top of my head. Even the cliffs around hills you generally didnt travel could at least be used for siege. Well, maybe the jumping puzzle.
(edited by Dawdler.8521)
Why ? rampager has more power … nades and bombs make condi damage but also direct damage. I think you should consider the sum of the 2 … no ? I agree with you for pistols skills which are quite only condi based … but nades, bombs , and elixir gun benefit quite a lot from power i think
Especially in PvE. The extra power from Rampager will give you alot more than the extra condi dmg from rabid simply due to stat scaling at higher numbers. If we ignore toughness you get around +100% base damage increase on power attacks with Rampager, yet a mere +20% condi damage increase with Rabid.
The most obvious example in PvE would be where you need to destroy items. My condi scrapper pretty much have to carry a kit more heavy on power (I use flamethrower) because otherwise its like throwing rocks at a tank.
I can’t support balance like that.
What do you mean? You are already supporting it.
Do you play sPvP? Well elites are meta (the only meta) so the community has spoken – get HoT, we all love it.
Do you play PvE? Elites are pretty much superior in every single way and everyone play them, so get HoT, we all love it.
Do you play WvW? Well you’re actually really into PvE, see point above.
I am not funding them more? I can play without paying them a single cent. As a consumer, They are offering nothing for me to want to get the expansion, and the fact they limited players choices on play style when they clearly said they did not want to do that. Is enough of a reason for me to take a wait and see stance on what is going on.
The fact Elites are superior is enough for me to not want give them money. I don’t mind others who enjoy it and happy for them. It does not make me upset.. I just can’t lower my standards expectations to support the game at the moment. When I feel the company could do much better.
But you dont matter to Anet. If you have 2 players next to each other and ask them, do you like HoT?
One says “Oh its ok I guess. I like the new PvE maps and stuffs.”
The other says “Oh hell no, classes are imbalanced, WvW is broken, sPvP is a travesty, everything is kitten!”
Then Anet will look at both, consider their respective sides and say “HoT has been overwhelmingly well recieved by our players! Look at these quotes: ‘I like the new PvE maps’. HoT is clearly the best version of GW2 ever!”.
I can’t support balance like that.
