I’m so sorry, that has to be the worst feeling. Laptops didn’t exist when I was in college, but one night I left my purse in the common area of my dorm. Eh, well, I trusted my dormies in general and it was a locked dorm. But in the morning my wallet (a sweet 16 present from my mom) was missing, replaced by an empty box of candy with an insulting name. The following week was the foulest mood of my life. I felt so violated. My wallet turned up under a bush, badly rain damaged, and luckily I’ve never been the victim of that sort of theft again — yet nearly 30 years later I still remember it with an unhappy pang.
It certainly made me try to educate my clients on why theft is a nasty thing to do.
I hope you’ve submitted a ticket. Sometimes Support does amazing things. If they say no, you’re no worse off.
Does Sir Galahad afterwards ask if he may go back and face the forums?
About armor damage: repairs are free and repair places easy to get to. You suffer no game play issues from damaged armor until you have died six times or more; once all your gear is broken — shown by a gold shield on top of it in your equipment panel — then pieces of it start disappearing along with their stats and procs. Die six more times without repairs and you’ll be fighting in your skivvies at much less effectiveness.
Unless you’re in a hard LS fight and have no repair canisters, you are highly unlikely to ever die enough to lose armor pieces as long as you take a moment to get to an anvil or repair merchant as you travel about.
Welllll .. I go for tall slender and dark haired, all of which he was. Now he’s tall, not-slender, and gray
But I’m pretty darn plain myself and he has a great smile and wide shoulders and a fantastic sense of humor and a ton of competence … yeah, I love him.
If only he played GW2. It’s just not his style of game, alas.
Does it count if after 22 years I still count him my bestest friend and can’t imagine life without him? Maintaining giddy passion for decades is something very few can manage. (My parents are a few years past their 50th anniversary and at that party when asked how they’d done it my mom said “He’s my best friend.” Much heart melting resulted).
I don’t think GW2 demands to be our one and only. It’s meant to be something that’s always there for you without jealously requiring your attention when other matters distract you.
So I hope we get a fun new toy for Valentines as we have in the past (still holding out for my champagne toy idea I put in Suggested Gemstore Items the past two New Years
) but it shouldn’t be only for those who “100% rep” GW2.
As others have said, GW2 is designed around the lack of rigid defined roles. And it has millions of players who like it like that. It wouldn’t be this game if it had a trinity.
Asking for meat in a vegetarian restaurant is an excellent analogy. Thanks, Pandaman!
The daggers are now in the Gem Store. Go to Promotions and scroll to the bottom. 600 gems.
You will be answered once the deep dives begin. They aren’t saying a lot until then. Keep checking the blogs?
I do wonder if they’ll lock out the LS part for beta. My biggest reluctance to beta would be getting spoilers. I have no issue with testing new systems and giving feedback. The BWE’s and stress tests were awesome fun! Not to mention very useful for working out design kinks. But they did lock PS to level 20 so you couldn’t get past your initial racial PS section in beta, leaving plenty to discover in live.
Obviously beta will have to let people into the new zones. That alone may be too much in the way of spoilers for me, not that I see any way to avoid getting spoilers while participating in the forums as it is. Maybe they’ll only open the beginning parts, enough to test the systems without giving away the whole shebang?
I’d prefer not to have to set them 9 times (18 times?) myself. So I’d want there to be an option remaining for global keybinds.
Also I think the game differentiates account/character binding, not profession. I have 3 mesmers for example. With specialization, that’s 6 times keying in the same settings for me if no global option is there.
Yes, the green swirls don’t always lead you well. That gate will be unlocked once you have done more PS. The trick is to zoom out your map and look for the green star, wp as close to it as you can get, and run in its direction.
I posted it in Bugs because it (is) hit or miss whether I get a forum page or a 503 error. Refreshing the page seems to fix it (briefly) and advance me to the thread I was trying to read or post I was trying to make.
Today I’ve been getting a lot of 503 errors and login portal errors just navigating around the forums. Usually a reload or press of the back button lets me browse some more, but it is very hit or miss whether I’ll be able to read a thread or post in it.
I don’t promise this is the definitive answer as I have never transferred or even considered it. However, from reading forum threads about it:
If you pay for the transfer, everything goes with you.
If you want to transfer for free, you must delete all your characters. Anything you keep in your bank will still be there on your new server.
Deletion means you will lose your crafting skills and anything else specific to or held on the character.

Now is game preferentialing paying players, becouse they will have content that non-paying dont have.
Quite major change in game policy.
Its a turning point now.
And people that have GW2 have content that people who didn’t buy and install it don’t. Ok, maybe some people have it thanks to someone else giving it to them, but every account started with someone paying for the game.
It’s not like it’s suddenly a subscription.
Need more than 1 Specialization to make sense

I’d note that you don’t have to choose just Ranger or just Druid. You can swap back and forth out of combat (hopefully for free, as with traits now). So you are nearly moment to moment choosing between the two setups.
Drat, I was hoping someone might have a definitive answer before I committed points. Maybe they can be changed after spending, maybe not, I have almost zero WvW expertise. But if it’s a permanent expenditure that won’t affect PvE siege weapons I’d think it would be better spent on supply/repair oriented skills as my rare journeys into WvW don’t tend to involve me using any siege.
Whereas I like to think I’ve gotten pretty handy with the arrow carts and mortars in SW, generally hitting the target I mean to with the ammo best suited and keeping situational awareness as to near and far threats.
Only one Ascended chest out of 11,800 Champion bags. O.o Just goes to show how rare they are. (Although, I didn’t know they could actually drop from Champ bags! Unless that was from a lucky kill.)
They can, I got a Leftpaw box out of a champ bag from a bandit chest. I was manning Amber’s walls and someone dug it up below me so I hopped down on a whim.
My bags opened must be far less than the OP’s, given that even when gung ho going for mordrem parts and chest boxes I still did at most 3 defend/breach/vinewrath cycles in a day (I didn’t map hop, I stuck it out). So around 30 bags a day at most?
For the PS part, as long as your friend is in the same zone as you when you enter your PS instance, he will get the prompt to join you. This works for dungeons, fractals, LS, and the home instance in cities. So you don’t have to wait for him to get to your instance entrance, just for him to get in the map as a whole (for instance, if you are doing the Skritt research in Harathi, you have to get to the west side but he can just step inside Harathi from any direction). When you and he leave the instance, he’ll be back where he was.
This can be quite handy. If I have a friend starting the TA dungeon, I tend to wp to a fortress that has a merchant in it. I get the prompt, in I go, and when I exit I’m ready to repair and sell where I am.
I think we need a bit more lore on how they work. I’m holding off final choices until we get lore and mechanics and a fuller list of channeled entities. This being ANet I will assume that any race will fit.
Some time in the next two weeks, definitely by Feb 13, they will start giving us more info. No amount of our wishing and requesting will make them advance their planned information release schedule.
But it’s under a fortnight, so hang in there!
I was skimming my WvW achieves for lulz — I’m only rank 6 — and noted that I have enough points to either increase my arrow cart range or my mortar blast radius. Would that affect Silverwastes siege at forts and Vinewrath? If so it might be worth paying the points.
Just because the name is generally used in fantasy to describe a ghost does not mean the GW2 Revenant has died. It’s perfectly possible for the living to go to the Mists and return, or I’d be giving all those Mist Wars recruiters in the cities a real hairy eyeball.
I believe the profession name is referring to the channeling of dead heroes who are thus revenants, not to the PC being reborn.
My understanding is they said Feb 13 on the Ready Up livestream, which is PvP-oriented. Before that Gaile had said “early February” in the Questions We Want Answered thread.
Are you sure you were on the right character and story step (‘Victory or death’)? You would be unable to start S2 episodes on a character who hasn’t finished personal story. And if you were doing this, you likely completed PS a while back on this character and won’t get credit again. I know because I tried running alts in PS for the skins and it wouldn’t let me start episodes on those missing S1, the basic PS up to Arah story.
Apologies but this is incorrect, Season Two is definitely available to alts not yet done with PS. One of my trio of LS runners is still on the level 60 step of letting the Pale Tree send him to a vision of Arah. He’s quite easily done every chapter this season.
I’m fairly sure even accounts that have not ever killed Zhaitan can still jump into LS2.
No, the OP is correct, the problem lay in having a different active story going.
That is correct! The only thing that goes sequentially is the Personal Story, which is available starting at level 10 and each 10 levels thereafter.
You can even leave a heart half done and come back any time later to fill it in.
That corner tab is the only way I know of. You should be able to pull it higher if it’s not already max size. Try using the corner tab to shrink the minimap a bit, then pull out again to see what dimensions you get.
If there’s some keyboard way to resize it, I have never heard of such and can only suggest you check through the options.
There are a number of threads asking this, and it’s also in the compilation questions thread that Gaile is reviewing. The answer will surely come once they start releasing details, long before HoT actually debuts. Don’t delete anyone or spend money you can’t afford just yet.
They could gender swap everyone for a day. Same slider settings. I’ve checked via Makeover kit, and attractive people of one gender come out decidedly odd with a simple gender swap.
I imagine that would upset a lot of people who care what gender they are playing, though, and some would rush to use kits to get back, and then get messed up with the global return to normal the next day and have wasted kits (real money for some of them), so I can’t really countenance actually doing this.
Reviving Deputy Mira used to be a real meat grinder for me. Then I figured out the trick is not to run straight to her, but to circle around to the left. At that point the most you have to deal with near her body is one or two Risen and occasional fish bombs; you can rez her with minimal combat if any.
Yeah, I’ve done Claw Island many many many times. It’s lost all emotional impact, so I cherish my first time there, when I had no idea what to expect, and the second round when glorious music swelled as I and an army charged a dragon. Now it’s just a quick checklist of events.
wait that shouldent affect chars made before april 2014 should it?
It does. I decided to level up an Ele for a bit today, just for something to do (he’s a shill made for RP, not meant to last long). I was level 12, had a lot of weapon unlocks and utilities, all gained long ago. Today I could not swap out from the flame axe until I dinged 13, then all my unlocks were available.
Interestingly, I was also limited to Fire and Water even though I had previously unlocked a lot of Air skills and some Earth. Hitting 13 I got Air added in and just by equipping one of each weapon everything but Earth was totally unlocked. I’ll get Earth later, and equip them again to get the full set.
Unless he goes back on the shill shelf, of course
They’ve said it’s every “major” feature. That leaves a ton of room for “minor” ones that might end up being things that really please a lot of players. Who knows? One reason they’re doing a longer lead time with lot of info posts promised is so player feedback can affect the final shape of HoT. Which is exactly what many forum posters have requested, right? (Despite some now saying “it’s too long a lead, I’ll get bored waiting.”)
It could be there will be some less than stellar things in the offing — we can constructively critique those as they are revealed, and likely have an impact. Back in Beta tons of things got suggested by the community that made it into later beta weekends and then into the game. E.g. having a local /say that wasn’t map wide, having custom emotes, changing mesmer portals so they didn’t automatically work on anyone.
Because mesmers were having tooooo much fun sliding groups of afk people all over the terrain to odd spots and little islands.
No, Cook’s is different for others. It’s glorious on a norn, for instance, and rather lab-coatish on an asura. I liked it more on sylvari when it was townclothes and I didn’t have to have a club hand, though.
Whoa, what if the specialization for those two is reworked so they -do- swap?
The game is designed not to give racial benefits that will make people choose one over the others for any but aesthetic/lore reasons.
That said, if you have any interest in doing jumping puzzles you may want to avoid Norn and Charr. Both are large enough to cause major camera issues in small spaces, and Charr have a non-intuitive foot box to boot, which only makes it harder to jump onto tiny pedestals. That’s true for all professions, though, not just Rangers. Play whatever race appeals to you; be advised you cannot race change an alt.
1 — There are no quests as such. Just explore the world, opening areas, wp’s, vistas, pois, etc. Do heart completions if you wish. Jump in every event you can find. Gather mats. Once at high enough level, try out dungeons. But don’t feel that you must level. Let leveling be a byproduct of playing.
2 — There are a lot of pets for Rangers. The wiki has guides to where they all are, or you can just explore and be happy when you see a Juvenile anything because taming involves walking up to it and interacting. Takes one second. With two pets you can swap between them in combat. Once you have more than two you must pick which two to have active. Warning: write down your names for the pets. Replacing them with different ones wipes the names.
3 — I don’t know, I’m NA.
4 — Purely subjective opinion. Every class allows a wide skill range and has people who think it’s best and people who think it’s worst. Play what you enjoy. Be aware that PuGs may diss you for being a Ranger in dungeons.
5 — Another one that is individual and subjective. It depends on the guild. For me, a guild is best from the get-go, but it’s a social guild with RP and such. My guild formed before beta and RP’d on forums until we could finally get in game. A good core of those present at the start are still playing now.
6 — I find players anywhere I go in the world (NA). Part of that is the megaserver; any low pop map will get merged in with one holding more people.
I recall this being mentioned in the Sylvari forum, back when there were race forums. It was an outright bug in most people’s opinions. Perhaps you should report it in the bug forum, in case they don’t know it’s resurfacing.
Take a look at the stickies in Players Helping Players. There’s one that is page after page of helpful information, tips, and tricks.
I haven’t been in WvW in a long time so this may have changed, but the high concept is you’re defending your world from invaders coming through the Mists. So instead of seeing player names on your enemies, you see, e.g., “Fort Aspenwood Invader.” That’s to meta let you know which server’s player you’re up against in the fight, without allowing personal grudge matches to blossom.
It is possible to RP some things in there. My guild occasionally went in to do dolyak escorts ic’ly as a mercenary adventurer company. Also there is a way for a guild to claim a structure and get their banners all over it for a time.
Still there’s not really a rah-rah feeling beyond a general sense of pride in seeing your server doing well in the rankings. Megaservers have pretty much erased PvE server identity and I think that may be carrying over to WvW (I could be quite wrong, as I said I’m not terribly involved in the WvW scene).
The server doing well does have some PvE benefits because through the course of a round it unlocks PvE bonuses such as a boost to materials found gathering.
Check this thread. The OP was able to get on TC by going for it at 3 am Pacific.

If I understand what you’re saying, you got a free use from Wardrobe even after you unlocked the skin and no longer had the skin in your inventory? If so that is a very nice change indeed and I may be about to get some bank space back thanks to skins I’ve been saving for the right alt and not wanting to waste the free use.
Can you check to see if it remains free after your first use? That’s a function many have wanted from gem store skins. Though I imagine they’d have announced that change because there’d be a flood of purchases as a result.
A workaround if you have Win7 is to enable the feature that puts a white circle around your mouse pointer when you hit CTRL. It blooms, then contracts. When someone first posted that in these forums a red post came in with thanks for pointing it out.
I’ve been using it and it has helped, especially since I mouse-move and thus my cursor goes many crazy places (including to my other monitor at times, though I can tell that happened just by suddenly having my taskbar pop up).
Since nothing of the story was said at all about HoT its impossible to say that Mordremoth will even be in this expansion. So it might be that it takes 2 expansions to kill an elder dragon.
What about Braham shouting in the trailer, “We take the fight to Mordremoth!”? Though that could just mean a good intention by the biconics as opposed to something actually accomplished.
Even so, given that all the vines are part of Mordremoth, I’d say technically we’ve already seen him. Just his little toe, as it were, but unless game mechanics block it then really, the whole jungle we are in should all be part of him, given the lore that the elder dragons are the size of mountain ranges. I have no idea how that would translate to an end fight, however.
In the human home instance it’s in the central market right by the 3 trees. In the norn one it’s over near the metal mining nodes. I don’t use it enough in the others to have memorized its location there.
I linked this on a friend’s wall (as we have a guildie named Spec). Someone posted the best answer:
“They get wet.”
None of the new added zones have had anything needed for world completion. Some things added to old zones (waypoints and pois and vistas) did get merged into those zones’ completions and thus are now part of getting the gold star.
Were I a betting sort, I’d put my money on the new maps not being required. Though if they added them in while simultaneously removing the WvW part, I think the rejoicing would vastly outweigh any sorrow.
I’m happy they released the game when they did. MMO’s are meant to change over time, it’s right on the box warning purchasers that this will happen. Should they never add any feature because they “should have” done it earlier and now it’s too late?
All right, I got hold of the pictures of the shirt. It’s spread out on a towel on my bed, I cropped it down to just the image. The back side has the left sleeve folded over to show the text on the sleeve hem.
Thank you, we can now see clearly that is a sword. Also, that does look like a cool shirt.
It is an excellent shirt. Alas, when I bought it I was flat stomached but in the past few years middle age suddenly noticed me and now I have enough tummy bulge to make the charr curve out over it. Sadness. (I’m not calling myself fat — I’m pretty much still at a good weight for my height and my arms and legs remain thin — I just have a mass distribution that fills clothes out in less optimal fashion now).
I’ve done some scratch art in the past. It’s rather unforgiving if you scrape the black off somewhere you didn’t mean to. I’d say only the artist could tell us what that line was meant to be, as it is quite ambiguous whether it belongs to the shield or an extension of the blade hilt. However, I will lean to the “it’s a sword” camp because one does not typically hold a spear up near the blade and having the weapon held vertically with the butt on the ground would have worked better for the image, if it was a polearm.
That_Shaman has datamined them. Keep checking the gem store, especially on Tuesdays. I have a feeling they might show up this Tuesday, in fact, but I have no definitive source for that.
