You lose that 5% no matter what when you put anything on the trading post. You pay that up front. The number you see at the end is the Sell Price minus the 10% fee. It assumes you remember that you also paid a listing fee earlier whenever you posted it.

You can cancel your listing at any time and you don’t pay that 10% fee, however you do not get your 5% fee back. I don’t think a lot of people know that considering how often I see people pull their listings down and repost them if they are ever undercut.

They don’t realize that each time they do that they are cutting into their profits.

In many cases they end up losing money on the transaction because they don’t factor in that listing fee.

For me the enforced item grind I have to participate to “unlock” new items/skins (ambrite weapons, back item) combined with RNG (e.g. Foxfire Clusters) are the parts I find increasingly frustrating abut season 2 so far.

Are you saying that Anet is forcing you to grind for the new optional skins?

I think every single one of these suggestions has been requested…. MANY times in these forums before. I’d love all of them (especially a first person camera option). Hopefully in the future we’ll get at least some of them.

I don’t even think this forum is read by anyone with “power” to take decisions. The only anet workers going around here just seem to keep the forum from going to far on verbal abuse and such things…

As someone with the power to make decisions at the company where I work I can definitely say that’s how it is. Whenever a customer service rep/forum mod honestly feels that there’s a major issue developing then they will send a copy of all of the comments/emails to me to a) see that there is indeed a universal problem (and not necessarily a 50/50 divide- an actual overwhelming majority of people thinking it is a problem, which almost none of the GW2 complaints in the forums actually have) and b) decide what course of action to take (toss it in the garbage or not essentially).

They do not have the power to publicly suggest solutions or make promises to anyone (obviously). They pretty much default to “I will pass your message along to the appropriate person” or “We will look into this”.

If I end up feeling it is indeed a major issue, I will bring it up at the next production meeting and then we as a group decide a) if we want to ignore the issue/table it for another day (not recommended—I feel Anet is guilty of this), b) how to address the issue, what the time/cost requirements will be, and how to communicate it properly to our customer base, or c) decide it really isn’t a major issue based on our vision of the product (i.e. “working as intended”) and then communicate that to the customers.

The problem with GW2 is that for every person complaining about X feature, there’s someone that defends X feature. Can you really even claim it is a problem if there’s not a real consensus from your customer base that it is in fact a problem?

Easiest ways to get exotics:

1) Karma gear from the Orr temples if you have enough karma.

2) WvW exotics, purchased with badges of honor. You will have to play a lot of WvW/EoTM to get enough for a full set, but if you enjoy that content it is easy as pie and adds up quickly.

3) Dungeon farming, specifically CoF – not only is it one of the fastest dungeons to farm, but also has Berserker stats, which are considered a strong stat combination.

4) Purchase straight off of the TP. This could cost you 50g+ depending on the stat combination.

5) Don’t even bother with Exotic trinkets, start going for Ascended. Laurels can get you rings and amulets. Guild commendations for Accessories. FoTM can work for rings but it is RNG based and you can’t control the stat combinations that drop like you can with laurels. Inside WvW areas you can buy ascended rings for less laurels, but also needs badges I believe. This might be the best way to go especially if you like WvW.

That would be frustrating for sure. However, it is only $10, and it’s a pretty sweet skin that you can use as much as transmutation stones will allow, which aren’t terribly hard to come by as others have said.

To minimize having to reskin too frequently, I only re-gear at 35, 60, and 80. And on my alts I don’t even bother with 80 gear unless I plan to run FoTM or something, so I get level 60 gear, put skins, then when they hit 80 I typically park them somewhere for some kind of specific farming or to do PvP.

I’ve also been playing since pre-release and have never seen a precursor. I’ve honestly stopped caring about it. The only sure-fire way to get it is to purchase it off of the TP. You could try the Mystic Toilet (however after 400g of swords thrown in without a precursor, I would not recommend this option).

The most valuable Exotic I’ve ever gotten was Ogdhen’s Leggings worth ~12g. Every other exotic drop I’ve seen have either been Recipes or weapons/armor worth 1-3g.

Luckily there are other avenues to get everything that I want so I’m pursuing those rather than deal with RNG.

My concerns about GW2

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Draknar.5748

I’m looking at it right now in game and the gold to gem exchange rate is about 13g for 100 gems. This sucks because it means if I wanted to buy something like a character slot expansion using gold traded for gems it would cost roughly 104g for 800 gems to buy one character slot. I am not going to waste the time to farm up that much gold just for one additional character slot. In my opinion it’s a lot more cost and time efficient to spend $10 on 800 gems.

It will always be more time efficient to spend $10 for the gems. That’s their whole selling point.

I would add that 104g in my opinion is reasonable for an entire character slot. I spent 111g on a scepter skin the other day, I would say a character slot is more valuable than that.

But quite honestly, once you’ve been playing the game for awhile, you get pretty good at making money. 104g, if actually going out of your way to earn it, can be done in a week’s time. The caveat of course is, will you be enjoying yourself while working towards it. It would require daily dungeon running, crafting, world boss running, EoTM farming, etc. I’d venture to guess 4hrs each day for 7 days (28hrs in-game time, you can spread it out over as many days as you want) is reasonable to make 104g if you are fairly new to making money. You would have to be able to basically make 3.7g/hr—which is doable with dungeon runs alone, but to break up the monotony you can do world bosses and sell/salvage your loot. Also don’t forget that laurels can be used for T6 mats which sell very well.

Personally I would spend the gems for the slot like you. I work hard for a living and if that means I can save ~28hrs by dropping down $10 for something as useful as a character slot, so be it. And it’s not like I can’t afford to exchange gold for gems, I just don’t want to.

As of right now If i was to migrate to anyother game would be Wildstar, however it might be 2 early to say… Also EQ Next should be here in a few months, however seems that is going to be p2w really hard…

I was expecting you to say a game that has been out longer than WSO. I’m not saying WSO isn’t a good game, but I agree it is way early to say.

My opinion on the matter is that MMO players in general are becoming more and more disenchanted with the genre. At this point in their gaming “careers” they’ve likely played an MMO for years, one they called home for a very long time (like WoW, GW1, L2, etc.) But of course, tastes change after years of playing the same game, with the same mechanics, same gearing structure, etc.

Players know what they used to like, but they are over the game they used to play simply from over-playing it. So now they are looking for a new game to play that is different enough to not feel like they are basically playing the same game, but similar enough to trigger the feels.

A game like GW2 is trying to offer a different taste all together. Their approach has satisfied many players who are just looking for something different, something a bit more casual, but it unfortunately does not satisfy the players that are looking for a game that is closer to what they used to play, simply because GW2 isn’t really like previous MMOs.

I haven’t played WSO, but from what I’ve read it is very similar to WoW in terms of gameplay and gearing (I played WoW for 4.5years and loved it—I just began to loathe gear treadmills with all of my being). I could be wrong on this, mind you. I feel like I would personally enjoy playing WSO right up until a patch/expansion drops and I have to re-gear. At that point I would call it a day and go back to GW2.

It was such a great idea to move all crafting stations/bank/TP/trainer/WvW ports/etc into one convenient location.

And then kittening disable the waypoint.

This is why people hate living story…

I don’t think you understand why people hate the living story…

a) Postern WP, east LA has everything you just listed.
b) WvW ports? You honestly find the portals more convenient than hitting ‘B’ anywhere in the world and instantly teleporting? Is it even worth mentioning WvW portals at all? That’s like saying it’s messed up there’s no easy access to a HoTM portal…
c) People dislike the Living Story because they feel it is underwhelming content in place of an expansion. Previously they hated it even more because of the temporary content aspect, but Anet addressed that.

I’m on the same path, I’m just waiting for dragon’s reach part 2 ‘cause apparently after that they will be taking a break on LS, I’ll probably just last till that, I’m curious to see what they can put out during that break period. Probably just Gemstore and patches that will barely matter…
As I stated before, I don’t expect at any point in time they change their path. They will just keep shooting out underwhelming stuff over and over again till this game hit’s a point of no return… But I guess deeply inside I hope they change something…

Draknar.5748

It’s not even that challenging either though. You just look up guides, do the jumping puzzles, explore, kill. Most of it is mindless work, set up objectives and knock em down.

The best solution for people who think it’s “hard” is to get out there and start doing stuff. Otherwise, sitting around solves nothing – the achievements don’t achieve themselves.

I will posit that the Dive Goggles achievement (not a LS achievement per se, but a Dry Top achievement) is challenging. You have to be pretty quick and precise with that crystal jumping and then land properly in the water, which can be tough.

But then again it is an optional achievement designed to be challenging. Otherwise why even call it an achievement.

The knockdown achievement in the latest LS took 3 attempts. First one I was hanging toward the entrance where the stupid orbs spawn, big mistake. 2nd time around I was hanging closer to the statue, much easier to see the orbs and they are so slow you can easily kite them, but unfortunately I dodged right into a fear ward and it sent me right back into the orbs. 3rd time I had learned everything I needed to know and completed it without issue. I did this duo, with the other guy taking out menders and/or distracting orbs (he had already completed the achievement and was helping me out).

You’d be surprised how much easier most achievements are when you do it with even one additional person. You don’t have to do everything solo.

Be careful reading expensive recipes!

in Living World

Why do you assume it’d be account bound? What recipes have ever been account bound?

I’ve only ever purchased recipes that I wanted and at the time you’re on the character who is crafting them (the recipes from the crafting vendor). And every other recipe I’ve ever gotten in a drop has been for an insignia which is cross craft, so I would use those.

I seriously have just been able to avoid ever accidentally using a recipe for a craft my current character didn’t have. I guess I assumed it would say something like “you don’t have the Artificer skill on this character” if I tried to use one that was say, Artificer only, or let me use it and have it unlock on my character that had Artificer. I mean I seriously used it on one character, hopped on my alt that had artificer and was very confused when I couldn’t find it.

I’m not really a big crafter. Leveled them up for the XP, AP, and then of course to craft Ascended items, but I was always on the character that had armor/weapon smith.

No other excuse than I made a poor assumption. Luckily I have plenty of Geodes so it didn’t hurt too badly.

Because of the scaling, it’s actually faster if only a small group goes to do the pre events. Take the Shatterer for example. If 20+ people went to do the gathering portion, it would take forever.

The best is to have a group of 5 or so to knock out the pre-events while everyone else waits.

They have changed that event a month ago. It now always recuires exactly 50 pieces and there is even a counter showing the amount gathered. Also there is lots of more mobs and pieces on the ground.

From July 1st patch notes:

“Adjusted the scaling of the “Collect siege weapon pieces for Crusader Blackhorn” event such that additional players will be able to help complete the event faster rather than cause it to take more time.”

Maybe people should check the pre-events even once a month

Well that changes everything lol. Disregard previous statement.

Foxfire Cluster drop rate

in Living World

Posted by: Draknar.5748

Draknar.5748

If you are finding the drop rate too small and want to get those clusters ASAP because you know, you GOTTA HAVE IT NOW. Might I suggest just buying the clusters from the TP for ~70s/ea.

I don’t wanna have them ASAP but if i get 1 or 2 for every 200 chops it’s kinda stupid.

I’ve gotten 1 foxfire in probably 75 chops, so it sounds like your experience is pretty accurate. Luckily like people have said there are areas you can go to easily farm them, so it’s not as kittenay farming T6 mats or something, yet they sell for more than T6 mats currently, which is odd. I assume its because everyone is wanting to get their backpiece quickly without having to farm wood so they are willing to spend a little extra.

The way I farm for things without having to farm for them is just a mental trick. I’ll farm for dragonite or something from world bosses or Dry Top chests. Every Rare I get I pretty much equate to either 1 T6 mat or possibly 1 Foxfire cluster depending on the Rare I get. Worst case is 2 rares per Foxfire. If I get burned out doing bosses, I’ll run some dungeons/FoTM, if I burn out doing Dry Top, I’ll run EoTM, if I get burned out on EoTM I’ll do WvW (similar to EoTM but actually quite different), if I burn out on WvW I’ll farm the actual trees for awhile in Orr. All of these net you Rares/gold (or the clusters themselves) which you can either salvage to sell ectos or sell directly on TP. Turn that into Foxfire money.

It helps to break up the monotony having multiple avenues to the same end goal. Some people forget you can look at things that way and only look at the one source to get Foxfire and don’t consider the others and then burn out farming one thing.

Decide where you’d rather spend your time. Because with an open market like the TP, there are plenty of people who have already done the work for you, you just need to come up with the funds and there are tons of ways to do that in this game luckily.

Aggression to players in teams unique to GW2?

I think WoW is the most caustic with the damage/heal meters. After each fight “Hey XXX, your DPS is bad, swapping you out for someone else.” Or “WTF YYY your healing sux, l2heal noob”. Heal meters was probably the worst, because as a healer (an awesome healer btw) that’s what you were judged on. The first place person was the guy literally spamming non stop even when nobody really needed healing. Just wanted to boost his numbers, or healing someone else’s target, thus wasting double mana. Paladins were pretty notorious for that when I was playing back in the BC days. Got my big full heal bout to land on my tank, wham ninja healed by a paladin to 98%, I heal the last 200hp… that’s just a plain ole waste of mana.

I’ve never seen someone with a legendary and thought wow, that’s amazing that guy is cool. I have seen some people that dressed to look cool and thought they were trying to hard to look cool and looked rather foolish however.

^^^This. I’ve never once seen someone with a legendary and thought omg how impressive. The first thing I think is “I wonder how much that dude paid for it” and then followed with “I wonder if he’s mad that so many people have that same legendary.”

The players that impress me are the ones that have skins I know you can’t just buy or people that mix and match from sets and look awesome doing it.

Same goes for Ascended armor. Can’t even count how many people I’ve seen running around in the full Ascended armor set with ascended weapons, which IMO are hideous (armor not the weapons—the weapons are kinda cool I suppose). My opinion is that the majority of people are only wearing that armor so people see them and know they have Ascended, because for some reason status is so important to them. The “prestige”.

I’ve got full ascended and you’d never know it to look at me. I guess it just comes down to different player personalities.

What’s this “treated like a football” nonsense people are talking about? Is it because of the knockdowns? There is nothing hard about this encounter. Stability or not. Focus on menders when you see them, don’t hang out towards the entrance of the room, that’s where the orbs spawn. Keep moving. There’s really no excuse for constantly being CC’d. Chill I think you may not be able to avoid but everything else? That comes down to paying attention.

It’s like if you guys can’t complete it your first attempt you deem it too hard and then complain about it. Or worse, the ones that haven’t even done the encounter, read a couple of posts complaining about its difficulty, and then chime in echoing their sentiments. You guys sound silly.

I don’t have to grind some instances to get gear to grind the next set of instances to have the best gear, and then a year later an expansion makes me obsolete again. I like that so much it has ruined literally every other MMO for me.

Will agree that on many occasions I feel like I didn’t just recently command the Pact to defeat an Elder Dragon, then additionally coordinate people and practically single-handedly defeat Scarlet who was basically destroying Lion’s Arch which is like destroying Boston or something.

You’d think that we’d get a lil dang respect instead of “oh boy thanks Taimi for doing all this”. “Well I couldn’t have done it without our friend here”. And then they look at me. “Yes of course, thanks friend, you are so helpful”.

Yea no crap you’d all be dead right now if I hadn’t pretty much been a super hero.

That’s my problem with this entire thing. Despite the ridiculous stuff you’ve done to protect Tyria, it’s like we’re basically some minor celebrity. Not even like a Brad Pitt, more like some no-name TV actor where you kind of recognize them but not sure from where, but you know they are famous, you just aren’t sure how famous and you don’t want to look stupid so you pretend you don’t even recognize them to be smooth about it.

All they would have to do other than work on the next story is to simply beta test (heavily) the episodes and distribute them timely.

After the traits, megaserver woes, and now the broken world LS events…

I don’t think ANet tests anything. I still can’t finish my event string because the events are broken.

Which events? I actually finished the new LS last night and didn’t get hung up anywhere. I assume it is one of the open world events, just curious which one(s) is bugging.

try it solo without help and just 1-2h per 2 days, don’t give me that whole “find a different game” crap, be helpful.

really, i get fed up with kids thinking they know better while constantly showing elitist behavior, is it really so hard to think both ways?
you’ve done it, power to you, so what is your advice, not elitist comment, how it could improve and how someone with barely any time to do the achievement.

Can only speak for myself here. (I’m 29 by the way)

I completed all of the first installment and second installment of LS achievements SOLO. I just unlocked the latest update so I haven’t even tried those.

My point was, if you are having trouble doing something solo, perhaps try with a group. It’s so easy to do in a group that one of our guild members’ chilluns (the 9 year old) was able to do them. As far as I know they’ve only completed up to what I have as well so can’t speak on the difficulty of the latest installment, but reading the achievements they seem pretty straightforward.

If you’ve completed the story portion solo then you are done. You can’t complain that the optional achievements are too difficult; that’s the entire point. They make them harder than normal play mode so that when you complete them it is an actual achievement (but considering many of the achievements can be completed without even realizing you did them, I’d say that they are only ever so slightly harder than normal play).

And when I say everyone I know has done them, of course I meant my little circle of guild members and my random static FoTM group. However, my guild has players from ages 9-70 with all sorts of skill. From first time MMO players to veteran MMO players. If that entire range of people has been able to be successful at it (not necessarily solo, but sometimes to achieve you have to put in some effort, which might very well mean grouping up) then I would say that the achievements are not too difficult and it isn’t just 5% of people completing them.

If you don’t mind my asking, which achievements in particular are giving you trouble? If you want actual help and advice rather than simply venting your frustration on the forums, let us know which ones are stumping you and we can give advice on how to complete them.

what’s the point on achievements in a game that only the small 5% can do?
see, go’s both ways.

Except that 5% is as accurate as me saying that 80% of people can do all of the achievements.

Everyone I know has been able to do the achievements. We do them as a guild. Never had any issue, and one of our players is a 9 year old…if 9 year olds can be members of the “small 5%” then might I suggest a different game?

Buying gem cards via other sites

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Hi, I’m wondering, is it legit to buy gem cards from other sites than GW ones.

For example, I’ve found some site to sell gem cards (2000 gems) for $25 or something similar. Also, on Amazon.

Is that legit and safe?

Why not just buy the gems in game? It’s the same price.

$20.00 for 1600 gems (5$ = 400 gems), so $25 = 2000 gems.

Is there a place you can get these cards cheaper than on the gemstore while still being legitimate?

Unlimited Hair Stylist is BACK

Now… let me preface this with saying…. I really want this item. If I could trade both of my legendaries and get this item, I would do so.

As a frequent gem buyer with real money, I tried to calculate how much real money I’d need to spend to get one of these babies off the TP.

Now first I estimated that it would cost 3500g. Considering the prices it is being offered at and the buy orders, I feel this is legitimate, but you can argue that number, that’s fine.

Then I said well… 100$ in the past has gotten me about 600g. So I rounded it up to 700g to make my numbers easier, and I feel that gem to good could get more and more profitable given that buying keys for the gamble might be worth it to some TP barons looking to have a go. So… 500$. Give or take. 500 dollars for this fabulous item.

Then… well. 500 bucks gives you 40k gems. Which translates to 160 hair style kits at full price, not buying in bulk.

Even though I would change my characters hair EVERY DAY if I got this item, and even though I’ve spent more than 5000 dollars over the course of 2 years playing this game, even I cannot justify the price of this item to warrant spending such a sum on it. Despite how much I want it. Despite how much I would trade for it. It’s a sad day indeed when I can’t justify the purchase of an item (and let me just say that I’ve justified some really ridiculous items!)

Please, Anet… this item should be a permanent drop. That way a year from now…. they won’t all be gone and people won’t be asking to trade 10’s of thousands of gold for it. Anet. Pls.

Keep in mind you can also get weapon tickets, extra keys, and all of the other random crap that is in the chests.

Still not worth it, IMO, but at least you have a chance at other valuable items. I just don’t like that they specifically say “very rare”. To me that means don’t even bother. I don’t even think precursors are considered “very rare” and I’ve never even seen one.

Hmm, never had an issue with that one. And you’re sure you are the one finishing off and not like 3 people doing it simultaneously and maybe someone beat you to the punch by a millisecond?? Also, if it says PvP, then I assume WvW finishes wouldn’t count, so you are for sure doing it in an actual PvP match?

I have not heard of anyone having this issue.

Hating the Aspects and Jumping Beans

I completely agree. This is a RPG: why do my skills matter? When roleplaying, I want to pretend I am someone that is not myself. That character is good at things that I am not. And I don’t want to be constantly reminded that I am not good at something (jumping).

Because your keyboard and mouse inputs control your character, not your imagination. Players vary in skill and some like challenge. If you do not like challenge, then don’t do the challenging optional content.

Sounds like tabletop games may be more your speed.

player housing

Draknar.5748

How I foresee player housing in GW2 (based on games I’ve played with player housing):

It’s cool the first day when you get it and furnish it; you stand in it and you think to yourself “man look at my sweet house!”. Then you stand a little longer and think to yourself “ok, well I guess I’ll go adventuring or something”. You finish playing and then think to yourself “oh boy, I’m logging out in my house! How great!” Start up next day, “ok time to run dungeons or something”. Play a bunch, then it’s “ok time to log, let me go to my house hooray!” Next day log in “Ok time to go and do some WvW!” Finish playing “Ok, time to log out in my house! Sweet!” Next day get on, “PvP time, here we go!” Finish playing, “Well, I’m probably going to do some PvP tomorrow, I’ll log in HoTM”. Start next day “Ok, some PvP then some FoTM!” Finish playing, “I’ll probably do something in this area tomorrow, I’ll just log here in LA”. Start next day “Alright, gonna run some dungeons then some crafting.” Finish playing, log out where you stand, by the crafting tables. A week later “Yay gonna play some WvW again, boy I love WvW!” Finish playing “Oh yea, my house, forgot all about that! Let me go there and log out!”

If you are a hardcore roleplayer, sure I could see the value in it, because duh your character needs to sleep in a house! But for 99% of the population your house is an inconvenient bank that will serve no other purpose than being a place to log out whenever you think about it. Nobody cares about your house, just like you don’t care about anyone else’s; and shortly after furnishing it and enjoying it for a few days you will stop caring about your house as well.

So what exactly do you want at the end of the cave? Precursor? 5g?

Easiest solution to everyone’s problems is to have the chests drop items from a smaller loot table. For starters no blues, everything at minimum green. But better yet of course would be a 50/50 chance to get a Rare, and maybe a 1/10 chance to get an exotic. Chests would be a once a day thing, or they could have them spawn randomly who knows.

Right now chests typically yield 2 blues, or 1 blue and 1 green, or a blue and a green orb or something. Nothing you can do anything with other than salvage or sell to vendor. In most cases you get far better loot killing monsters leading up to the chest than what is in the actual chest. That seems a bit odd to me.

SAB is my favorite side-content of GW2 by far. I’m honestly surprised we haven’t seen it back yet, but I figure that the next couple of worlds would need to be even larger than the last worlds (which were pretty huge), so maybe that’s why it is taking longer.

Pistol weapon ideas:

Small Shotgun

FN P90
UZI
Flintlock triple double barrel pistol

Basically take pistol and think Sub machine gun, or just outside the box in general.
