Lacking visibility

Yea, this has been a problem since release. They even had an update that was to make the boss/monster more visible, which it actually is compared to the way it used to be, but even with the change you can still barely see anything.

This plus camera needs to be addressed. Some JPs are only difficult because you literally can’t see the next jump without it zooming into the back of your head, and then when you start to move it quickly zooms out and completely disorients you. Or it does the zoom in zoom out zoom in zoom out zoom in zoom out. Overall just a bad system. First person view would fix this instantly, but there’s already a thread about that.

Just PUG’d fotm16 last night and ended up with mai trin. We got wiped once then beat her on 2nd try handily, was first time fighting her for 2 of the players. (3 warriors, 1guard, 1 ele setup)

What was the problem with this fight?

the higher the fractal lvl the more difficult it gets, most ppl do fractals 36, 49 and 50

of course now that its kind of scaled badly, u have to dodge evrything, fail dodging one thing and u r dead

edit: in full zerker gear for me, tbh i amgood at dodging so it doesnt bother me, and as an ele, everything was 1 shotting me anyway

Didn’t see OP reference a level, figured he meant the actual mechanics of the fight. Obviously at the higher levels there is very little room for error.

1.) I find it cheaper to put rares than exotics, especially if you do your own crafting.
2.) If there ever was an overall profit to be made from forging, the profit would be long gone or miniscule.

I always use this saying

“The successes of the few are paid for by the failures of the many”

As evident in my sig, you can see that my successes have been subsidized by the failures of many

Here’s one of those RNG demons now lol. Ignore everything Vol has to say in regards to MF. He gets precursors constantly from MF, I swear. How many have you gotten to date?

Haha no problem. I’m a victim of the Mystic Toilet, thought I could help save you money.

There are some people in the game, however, who dump weapons into Mystic Forge that seem to get precursors regularly.

Many believe there is a phantom variable that affects RNG. I am one of these conspiracy theorists. It’s just hard for me to buy into true RNG when one account can get 20+ precursors from MF and another get none. You would expect in the long run it all to average since each individual MF submission is its own RNG.

The vast majority of players lose small fortunes in the MF.

Honestly if I were you I would try to save up 100g, buy a bunch of the cheapest level 80 Rare greatswords you can and throw them in the MF. If you get a precursor then you may very well be one of the chosen few. If you get nothing worth noting (you will get exotic greatswords, but they will end up only being worth 2-3g, which will not cover your costs) then don’t bother with MF anymore.

Then again, it could all really be random. There have been instances in other games where RNG was claimed to have been truly random only for it to be discovered later there was in fact a line of code that contradicted the system. It has been discussed in other conspiracy threads.

All I know is that if Anet were to one day say “oh dang our bad there was a variable that made certain accounts have better odds on X loot table lawlz” that nobody would be surprised. Anet makes mistakes, nobody can deny that.

Doing Achievements To Pass The Time

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

I just feel like they are giving us these repetitive achievements to occupy our time, instead of, something fun like more dynamic events.

Every MMO I’ve ever seen gives players repetitive stuff flavored with virtual reward to make the repetition palatable. It seems to be a staple of the genre.

Yet judging from most of GW2’s posts regarding this you’d think that Anet came up with this system to avoid make “real” content. They don’t realize that their favorite MMO that they absolutely loved playing in the past had the same exact system with a different wrapping.

It’s all carrots on sticks people. All of it. Quit acting like you’re offended GW2 releases content that has carrots (Achievement points/reward chests) on sticks (various achievements to complete). You are all playing MMOs because you want the carrots on the sticks. Maybe you don’t like these carrots as much. Your opinions are your own. But don’t act like nobody likes the carrots. Because as far as I’m concerned everyone on this forum including myself scarfs carrots down like they’re going out of style.

Find the carrot-stick combo that is right for you.

So many times I’m standing in red circles I think are white, or I’m dodging out of white circles because I think they are red. This is especially bad when you’ve got both dropping in the same areas.

Better than the so called “Raid” Boss monsters Tequatl and Wurm where the individual skill doesn’t matter and anyone can get carried as long as he’s in the right world.

It 100% relies on the “anyone” finding the server filled up with people who actually know what they are doing and care. Which is becoming harder and harder unless you go to the zone 45m-1hr ahead of time.

The carried people are a tiny minority of players that are completing these bosses, and even then, I bet you they are doing their best to follow the direction of the group leaders, and at that point you can’t really say they are being carried, they are actually trying to participate and contribute.

By your logic, if individual skill really didn’t matter, then 100 terribad players should be able to get together and complete those bosses. Which you know isn’t true. You need a majority of your players to be good, or at least able to follow direction (which is a trait of good players), in order to win. Sure you can have a handful of players that are terrible around and still complete it, but to say that individual skill doesn’t come into play at all is a stretch. The carried people are just lucky that there are enough players who are individually skilled around for these fights to cover any short-comings they might have.

Heck even 5-10 bad players that are supposed to defend turrets in Teq could result in a failure.

If you’re on your 6th char, you really should be in EoTM with some boosters on. It’s hard not to level 2-3 times in a nice EoTM session.

I’m leveling my 8th and most likely last character to 80 (1 of each class). He’s a thief and level 46 at the moment with ~10hrs played on him. Hit 20 with a scroll of course. Then everything up until now I just use him for the daily but make sure he has on a bday booster (100% XP), an XP booster (50% XP) and a killstreak booster (+10% per kill up to +100% XP as long as you kill something once every 60secs). Then I make sure to go to areas I know aren’t frequented so that my bonus XP is nice and high.

With this method I can level him once every 30-40 kills or so. Each kill ends up netting me 1/5-1/4 of a bar, plus bonus XP for finishing a daily category, plus I end up getting hearts and events if they are close. Then I make sure to log him out immediately so as not to lose any booster time.

I level about 3 times an hour on him.

Leveling in this game really is easy if you’re a veteran of the game. I basically level 3x faster than a new player, plus I know where to go to get dailies done the fastest, which is even more of an advantage, plus the level 20 scroll thing, plus I have 10-12 tomes of knowledge in bank from PvP, so I really only need to level him to like 68 then I’m done.

We don’t need any easier methods to leveling, they give us everything we need to do it on our own quickly. You just have to play smart.

I agree with OP, I hate these jumping puzzles. I’m a casual gamer with a full time job and 2 kids, and only able to spend a few hours a night on it. I don’t have time and patience for them.

In a few hours you couldn’t get to the top of this average at best difficulty jumping “puzzle” that isn’t even a puzzle?

I was going to make a general statement about the human mind being amazing insofar that it can learn to do things relatively quickly given some repeated attempts. But the fact you cannot accomplish this new one in “a few hours” time really deflates my argument. It’s not like you have to get up to the diving goggles, that part I would understand, but simply to the top area?

I guess not everyone can learn and adapt the way most people can. Or I guess not everyone is willing to learn and adapt the way most people can may be a more accurate statement.

OP, I’m sorry but you are way off in your estimation for what effort goes into the story. You should not receive precursors or a legendary. You can do the story from start to finish within a week, the fact you took a year is specific to you and your playstyle. If you had been spending 2-3hrs/day doing only story you would have finished it within a week easily.

I do believe an exotic would be a better reward, but to give out legendaries and/or precursors (which are 500g-1000g) is way too much of a reward for so little of an achievement.

I know you think its some monumental feat you accomplished, but it really isn’t. If it took you a year then you were doing story quests randomly whenever you felt like it and not consistently doing them. Even doing one story quest a week wouldn’t take you a year to finish (30min/week).

I used to think like this, until after almost two years I looked at my Onyx Lodestones and saw I had 2….of 100 needed. And I play very regularly. Ended up just purchasing them in little batches every week. There’s no way to farm for those without wanting to kill yourself.

I’ve tried the no TP precursor thing. I’m batting 0 and 500 at the MF I’m pretty sure. As far as weapons I’ve thrown in. Getting one in a drop is laughably unlikely.

To get a precursor, your most reliable option really is saving up and buying it from TP. I’m at 400g saved up for Dusk. It’s slow going but at the very least there’s a light at the end of the tunnel, even if it creeps away slowly (prices going up).

WoW wasn’t as good when I left it as it is now. It is better now than it was when I left.

GW2 WAS good when i started here…then it got worse in MY opinion, defenitely less enjoyable. What I enjoy about MMO’s is Not viable in gw2, it IS In WoW, so i went back.

FACT: I consider it a better deal to pay a $15 Monthly to play World of Warcraft than play THIS game for free.

THAT should be a warning.

Anyway, I continue monitoring because I enjoyed Guild Wars. I like what it did, fact is i also re-activated my account with Guild Wars. That should ALSO say something.

I do hope that Anet gets it’s head out of the sand…

You’re the minority my friend. I’ve been back to WoW. All of my friends have too. We all have left already, and we were hard-core WoW players back in the day. The longest of us lasted a month this time around. I think maybe one person logs on just to talk to friends and stand around.

I have no doubt you will rave about WoW until the day the servers close, and it’s your right to do so. But, fact is, it’s a shell of its former self.

There’s a reason pretty much every WoW player is looking for a new MMO to play…

^^^^^ This.

Also the description does say “Unique” which would essentially imply that you can’t wear multiples, however, that isn’t explained anywhere, so I could see how someone wouldn’t notice that or if they did not really know what it means.

But there’s a work-around like TheDaiBish said, so no worries OP.

The “work-around” you speak of only works if you know about it beforehand. I’ll say that I did not and infused both rings, both the same defensive ring, and THEN learned what “unique” meant in GW2. It was a painful learning experience. One that could have been easily avoided.

Nobody, and I mean NOBODY, is giving a good reason for NOT adding a more clear warning on unique trinkets.

Well then that’s a pickle. Personally I wondered why there were two rings with the exact same stats and asked it in /map, got the unique item explanation and made sure to not buy two of the same.

I’m not defending the term Unique, I agree it should be clearer, you aren’t the first person to post this same exact issue.

Clerification about accended rings (and luck)

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Hey all,
I encountered today a problem i found to be extremely frustrating. I just finished a 10’th round of fractals and wanted to buy my second accended ring, only to find out i can’t use it because it’s also an offensive infusion ring. Now, I dont say change the system, but do mention this restriction to players, like in sigils. in every sigil there is a notice that you cant use the same sigil twice on the same weapon, do a similier notice on accended rings (and any other item that may has the same restriction).

and issue #2:
after a hour of playing most of us players have much bags/luck/consumeables that we want to open. its all nice and easy, but i find myself clicking like crazy just to consume a stack of 30 luck. i know there is a solution like a double click script and auto clicker, but let me suggest an easier solution. when a player hit the right mouse button on a consumeable he has the option to “consume all”. it will make my life and many other players much better…

thank you for the attention, and do reply (even if you don’t agree, so i’ll know why)

I didn’t know there were restrictions on ascended rings based on infusions. I was always under the impression it was strictly identical rings you couldn’t equip. Could someone confirm what OP is saying that you cannot equip two completely different rings if they both have offensive infusion slots?

Well I guess I’ll go to WP B, the next closest, and run, is what any sane human would conclude. Nobody would bat an eye in this scenario because you couldn’t get to WP A so obviously you would choose to go to WP B and run.

With new system you click WP A on map and it may say it isn’t contested but really it is, so when you zone in you’re re-directed to the exact same WP B you would have chosen in the previous example and now everyone flips their kitten? Sorry to crush your dreams, but as Colin once said, capes are hard to do (and then you have to add the wind and the angles etc). However it is mandatory to wear your Aviator Cap. The bird won’t lift off otherwise.

I don’t want or need capes. Just to be clear lol.

Leveling – that is finding sources to gain XP – is extremely easy

The problem is with the trait system, characters are ‘weaker’ than before because they don’t have traits to compliment their builds

No – then you can unlock by concentrating on them. It is not hard.

This belongs in the Trait thread, but I guess I’ll dump it here. Character progression should never depend on other people’s cooperation or ‘random’ time spawns.

Example #1:
I come home late from work and have an hour to play. I ask for help to defeat Grenth and instead people refuse to help – because the failure event gives more loot. The next day I log in, by the time the event chain would finish I have to leave.

Example #2:
I have a good 2hrs to play. I need Melandru’s and guess what – it’s bugged for god knows how long and NOBODY can cap it. GG.

It takes maybe 5mins to kill the Priests? But players like me have waited DAYS hoping both players available+time of actual spawn fall within their window of gameplay.

This system fails not because we’re not ‘concentrating’ on unlocks, but because factors out of our control are preventing us doing it when we have the time to

Wouldn’t that 1hr be better spent running 1 or 2 dungeon paths and then just unlocking the trait with gold? Or killing 3-4 world bosses and selling the Rares on the TP for 35s/ea. Or playing EoTM and selling your loot. Or crafting one bolt of damask and selling it. Or doing an Iron Ore/Platinum Ore node run and selling them.

There are plenty of other things you can do to gather the money in 1hr to unlock those traits. You don’t have to wait days to unlock anything. Ever.

Being able to complete 1-2 dungeon paths in an hour means forming a party on the spot ASAP – so most likely with pubs. I can’t even count the number of times pubs ended in epic failure.

I agree that dungeon gold yields can be good, but the gameplay itself I don’t like, which for speedruns often amount of mesmers running TP gimmicks. Besides the fact that it’s not entertaining to me, the SP rewards aren’t enough (see below)

As for your last 2 sentences – each GM trait costs 3gold and 20SP. On average I can play 1 hour a day. Even unlocking via EOTM, there is no way in helI I can farm 3gold and 20SP in 1hr aka 1day. Even 4 world bosses won’t come close to 20SP points within the hour.

The skill point requirement I’ll give you, that is your real constraint, and honestly I forgot that was a requirement. But 3g/hr is relatively easy to do (~9 rares will net you that, not including any other sources of income). Or literally 2 dungeon runs. You must have been having some bad PUG luck because the last PUGs I ran flew through them. Even if you just do 1 dungeon path for 1.5g and then get the other 1.5g from a few world bosses.

The SPs, that I can’t really speak on. I seem to get a lot of scrolls that give SPs. I don’t know exactly where I get them, I’m thinking WvW rank chests?

My concerns about GW2

Example:

Crafted bags.

I cannot make a bag unless I either play the game for a LONG time, salvaging everything for cloth,… ( requires I buy a salvage kit either from an NPC vendor or a BLTP Salvage kit off the gem store.) more often than not, I need to buy the cloth on the TP. Where Anet gets a cut. ( they get a cut either way)

Ah yes, making a bag. In the real world all bag makers gather their own silk from worms, refine it into cloth, then into bolts, and THEN craft the bag using hand-crafted threading and hand-forged rings/buckles.

When you buy cloth on the TP, just imagine you are running a bag shop out of your garage and you are buying the materials from eBay/craigslist. That’s how pretty much everyone in the world does it.

I hop on TS as well, I’m 29. Typically I don’t speak unless spoken to or if I have a question. I’m not one of those people that likes to just blather on and on narrating every detail of what they are doing. This system has equated to me speaking in TS a total of 6 times or so. It’s mostly listening for me.

I wouldn’t sweat talking in TS. Honestly.

What’s even more funny is the ones that complain about this WP change are likely WPing to various world bosses (I mean otherwise why are they WPing so frequently to warrant a forum complaint) that drop guaranteed Rares that sell for an average of 35s, which would cover all of their costs for the entire day mostly likely.

This particular issue is a non-issue. How many times have I been re-routed since this change? Zero so far. But OP will certainly make it seem like he’s been re-routed constantly which is costing him oh so much money.

It just goes to show that people will complain about anything.

As has been said before, none of this really matters. Players don’t (and shouldn’t) start to focus on their builds until they can get the gear for it. Everything up until 80 was and always will be temporary. Most players don’t even run dungeons until they hit 80, partly because of the caustic PUG system (i.e. if you aren’t 80 GTFO) and also because it requires 5 people and most players are simply focused on hitting level cap.

Once you can start investing in Exotic gear (and optionally Ascended) is when you sit down and think about your build. Study the traits, plan out your gear stats, trinket stats, experiment, etc. It is a very small % of people that were doing that before 80.

And what good is that anyway, you hit 60 and are wearing completely temporary gear most likely consisting of whatever is cheapest for your level because gear stats mean nothing pre-80 the leveling is so easy in this game; who cares what your traits are, nothing requires fine-tuning at that level.

Players always have the option of looking at new builds in HoTM. You may not be able to try them in PvE, but you can look at all of the trait lines and plan on paper, which is what most people do anyway.

I mean honestly, how many times has anyone re-done their traits pre-80. Maybe if you messed up by clicking the wrong trait line by mistake, but pre-80 players re-doing their traits because they wanted to fine-tune? I would venture to guess less than 3% of people. Mostly because it is a complete waste of time.

The new system is only a problem for that minority of people, and even then, I have a feeling in that in reality those people are completely unaffected as well and just want to gripe about it being a bad idea in theory.

As someone with 7 80s, 2 of which I leveled after the 4/15 update, and 1 level 30 I’m currently leveling, I’ve noticed little to no change. I explore, do events, do the dailies, the LS for xp, level up to 80 then plan my build. The fact my most recent level 80 character is still wearing level 35 gear with random stats proves none of this matters until you plan on being a productive level 80 character, heck I’m pretty sure she has trait points I never spent because it makes little difference when leveling up.

Traits that grant movement speed are the only useful traits leveling up. All else is only useful in dungeons, PvP, and WvW.

Unfair achievement system

I’m glad OP is speaking for the doctors, firefighters, and security guards who apparently work 24hrs/day. I assure you people in professions that take up their entire day are not playing MMOs, and if they are, they are certainly doing it extremely casually and could care less about achievement points. Firefighters and security guards have down time. Firefighters especially since they sit in the firehouse killing time until they get “the call”. Security guards work shifts like any normal person.

Doctors are the only anomaly because they could be on-call, but doctors aren’t complaining about achievement points, of that I’m certain.

I really don’t understand why OP finds the AP system to have a problem. If you play more you get more AP on average, if you play less you get less AP on average. How is that anything but fair.

A question about GW2

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

These are all good points, I have to admit. The only appeal to me with the old system of dungeons (loot tables) is the gambling rush you get, like playing scratch-offs. But let me tell you, the lows are there just as much as the highs when you don’t get the item you wanted for the umpteenth time. In GW2 you don’t have highs or lows, you just have the dungeon. You know what you’re getting out of it so there are no surprises.

Whether that’s a good or bad thing is hard to decide.

A question about GW2

Not quite. See if I were on another game…I would be doing certain dungeons, or fighting certain Boss mobs on the chance that said Item might drop. THAT leads to Immersion.

By having to " grind gold" this turns a game, into a Job. "I put in 8 hours farming gold…then I do it again, and save up..and I can then buy "Dusk""

That is NOT in any way the same as " I Know that so and so, carried that weapon in bla bla bla…. I Just need to be lucky enough to get it."

Maybe those that wish to keep saying " The game is fine" want to equate the two, but speaking for myself…. They aren’t.

What I find Intriguing is, even if we assume they are completely identical… why did Anet go with the " go farm for gold" model…Instead of the " do dungeon A until the weapon drops" model?

Maybe because the first … casual players can BUY “Dusk” for Gold they buy with gems? The second Dusk becomes an item that can only be obtained from simply playing the game?

Then again, if it can be Only obtained from playing the game… less people buy gems for cash, that they then trade for Gold I guess. So… there is that going for it.

Good points, but I would say that having to do anything more than once will make it feel like a job. For example, you play a game that has loot drop from bosses based on a loot table (pretty standard). Obviously good items have lower %’s but at the very least you know it should drop at some point.

You run the dungeon the first day, drat didn’t get the item you wanted, alright, let me run it again, maybe the second time will be better. Drat, didn’t get the rare item I wanted the second time around, got some blue garbage like last time. Ok, now you’re a little frustrated, but whatever, let’s run it a third time. Drat, again no rare item that you wanted!

At this point I can assure you that any player would consider running that dungeon again as work. You aren’t playing it anymore because its fun or good content, you are strictly running it over and over and over to try and get an item drop. That’s no different than running dungeons over and over for gold to buy the item you wanted. At least in GW2 you can run different dungeons over and over instead of the same one over and over.

The point is, it’s work any way you look at it if you have to go out of your way to do some repetitive task to get an item, and different people have different tolerances for the type of work they want to do.

You know how many times I had to run Molten Core in Vanilla WoW to get the full T1 set for my priest? I have no idea because after 30+ runs I still didn’t have a full set, and by then T2 armor came out and everything up until then was a complete waste of my time.
