Captain's Airship Pass?

I also have the pass and I’ve noticed no difference. I would WP from the ship to wherever I needed to go anyway.

I, and I assume most everyone else, who bought these tickets did so because of the convenience of warping to a spot that had all crafts, bank, TP, MF, laurel, vendors, etc. in one spot.

Sounds like you bought the ticket for a side feature rather than its intended use (convenience — in fact I think the tool tip even calls it the ultimate convenience). IMO it was worth the 1000 gems. Heck I even got one for my GF. It’s great!

It’s free travel to a hub with all amenities, from anywhere!

I fully support players selling path runs. That’s skilled labor and it is vital to a thriving economy. If someone becomes good at doing something so much so that people will pay them money to do it, then it sounds like they are entrepreneurs, not exploiters.

If it was easy to do everyone would do it and their services would not be needed. They are meeting a demand and I support that fully.

That aside, considering gems are purchasable which can be instantly converted to gold, the whole premise of “newly generated money” via dungeons being a bad thing is rendered completely moot. In half a minute I can spend $10.00 at the gemstore and convert that to ~70g.

Totally wrong .. the gold is not generated out of thin air, you just get the gold that some other people pay to buy gems, and even there a part of that gold is removed from the economy.

This buy/sell gimmick they have means nothing, it’s an illusion of balance. It’s not like the TP where there are only X gems and Y gold available. There are far more people buying gems and converting to gold than the other way around. It would never be able to sustain itself. People typically only buy gems with gold when something cool comes out on the gem store (thus variable/low demand on gems), versus year-round need for gold (extremely high demand), because you need gold for everything in this game.

At some point you would click convert 1000 gems to gold and get hit with “no gold available” if it relied solely on people “buying” gems with gold to feed the conversions, because the need for gold is far higher than the need for gems. The gold that people are converting to gems would never, ever be able to supply the people buying gems with CCs and then hitting the convert to gold button, because there is a relatively endless supply of real life money that will continue to generate these magical gems. You would run out of gem “buyers” and then effectively out of gold with which to convert your gems to. The only way to make it so Anet can continue to let you convert your CC-purchased arbitrarily created gems is to have an endless supply of gold that is not tied to anything but air.

I’m postulating of course since Anet has never released hard numbers, but if you honestly believe it is being balanced by its own gold pool, then I don’t know what to say honestly.

Dungeon Rewards might be a little too good.

Dungeon rewards are fine, if you take an average group say it takes them 10-15 mins per path, allowing for errors etc, you can run say, AC p1/2, hotw P1, CoF P1,2 in say 90 mins, this would get you about 5-7gold + drops

Thats however 5-7 new generated gold, thats the problem.

Do the FGS train, and you have maybe 1g as new generated gold in that time +drops, maybe even less now. The last time i did the train was before the last nerf, and there i had made 2g30s pure gold after 4 hours.

And there are also not 1000s of people do the train. In EU we have normally maybe 2-3 instances now of FGS .. all in all i would say there are maybe 100-200 people doing the train at the main time.

You do realize that creation of money is necessary for an economy to work right? That aside, considering gems are purchasable which can be instantly converted to gold, the whole premise of “newly generated money” via dungeons being a bad thing is rendered completely moot. In half a minute I can spend $10.00 at the gemstore and convert that to ~70g. If I wanted to earn that in game I would have to spend on average 90min/7g ( to use someone’s figures earlier, which are fair if you have a decent group and focus on 5-6 easy paths). That would be 900min+ of dungeon running (spread over multiple days due to daily cap of course) to match what someone with an extra $10 to blow on the gem store could get instantly, not to mention someone with $20 or even $50 to spend on gems.

Now of course I realize that 90min/7g would need to be multiplied by 5 people to compare money generated accurately to my one person buying gems example, but I’m inclined to believe there are far more people buying gems and converting them to gold than we could ever realize. Simply from the fact that gold farming typically gets nerfed and more and more stuff are added to gem store, more so than any content that’s for sure.

Dungeon rewards are fine, if anything they should be higher, and if not dungeon rewards being higher, then there needs to be a viable method for a solo player to create money outside of TP flipping, gem store purchasing, and WvW/EoTM train, because right now it’s pretty much gem store if you want to play by your lonesome.

JPs are far too subjective to be rewarding anyway. Someone like me can run that JP in 10-15min, versus others that could take 1hr+ depending on familiarity.

Last Dungeon I did was impossible to get through. So if the reward is good at the end then its a good reason. I have never been able to get through one. Maybe cause I won’t run with anyone but my wife cause everyone else just takes all the loot before I can actually get to it. I can’t stay on my feet long enough and not a soul helps other players out they just run off do what they want and leave people behind.

Wut? Takes the loot? I think you’re playing some other game. Loot doesn’t work like that in GW2. Also, I’ve never heard of a dungeon run where group members leave you behind when you die/downed. That would get nothing accomplished.

Those truly into speed running tend to have groups of their own and don’t pug it.

Yes, but that has no bearing on this particular discussion as they wouldn’t be kicking PUG players for having unacceptable gear. They also wouldn’t need to inspect their own static teams or monitor DPS, as it’s their static team and they’ve proven they run perfectly. Which would only support not needing meters and an inspect command.

We’re talking about PUG groups specifically. Speedrunners that use the LFG tool, which seems to be somewhat common.

I’ve never been one to bad mouth the gem store and gem conversion, because honestly that’s how they pay their employees. It does feel, unfortunately, at this point, that GW2 really is heading down a dangerous path where buying gold from them is the only reasonable method to obtain gold.

Now, I’m not saying there aren’t other ways to make gold in this game, because there are and I do them. I run dungeons regularly, I sell mats that I’m not using, when I finish my current set of Ascended armor, I’ll return to selling Ascended mats for profit. That’s all well and good. Heck I even play the TP every now and then, money has never really been a problem for me.

The problem, that I see, is that outside of playing TP and selling Ascended mats, there is no real viable way to make money besides dungeon running, which requires 5 people. I was never a fan of the champ train, and honestly I’m happy it is gone, but they really need to put in ways for people to make a decent amount of gold while playing SOLO.

EoTM zerg train is an OK option, but it literally is the same concept as queensdale train, so likely that will be revamped at some point soon, making it far less rewarding.

Some days you want to be able to do something on your own and not have it be a completely unrewarding experience (in terms of gold— as gold is the only way to progress in this game)

WvW can also be a pretty worthwhile investment (sometimes), but having WvW/EoTM be your only option as a solo player to make decent money (solo w/ zerg of course) just isn’t fair to PvE players. I play all game types, but I know plenty that are PvE only players and they continue to get kitten on.

I’ve been a longtime defender of GW2 and their ideas/changes (heck my post history would confirm this), but lately some of their choices have really made me question whether or not I can see myself playing this game long into the future.

TL:DR – They need viable options to generate income while playing SOLO PvE outside of buying gems from the gemstore to convert to gold, playing TP, or selling Ascended mats.

more tips:
- use lightning pull on open ground to move faster. out of the gate, I will dash, lightning pull, grab all powerups (if one is aspect master, just keep dashing), dash, lightning pull, grab more powerups, run, lightning pull, dash, etc.
- grab crystals if they aren’t too far out of the way. dash consumes endurance (1/2 of full). crystals refill endurance. it only takes like 7 blue crystals to completely refill endurance (bigger crystals refill more). If you dash through crystals, you can just keep dashing constantly.

Additionally, with Aspect master activated —> Dash + Jump will get you over a LOT of obstacles quickly. Very useful in the beginning, at that first ramp/jump, a 2 + 1 combo will almost clear that entire upside down canoe obstacle course, or whatever those are.

No and No. People are complaining that the game is getting Elitist and this would only make it worse.

It’s only becoming more elitist because most of the GW2 population consists of kitten poor players wearing PVT and Clerics who whine over and over about how they are just playing how they want aka playing like crap.

Yes because gear is what makes you a good player versus a bad player….riiiight. Unless you honestly believe that if you are in zerker gear there’s absolutely no way you could play like crap. I’m sure many here would disagree with you quite a bit.

I run a PVT guardian w/ clerics trinkets in most dungeons (have cleared every dungeon every path and at this point up to FoTM43, without any issue). I’ve yet to whine about anything. If I want an 8min CoF run, I’ll hop on my zerker warrior and look for speedrun groups (but only if they only need 1 more person already). If I’m OK with a 13min CoF run, I’ll stick with my guardian.

I’ve been trying to take note of times to fulfill groups for speedruns versus casuals, and honestly the last couple of groups I’ve been in that wanted zerker only (and typically warriors), it has taken ~10min minutes of us standing around to get an acceptable group together (acceptable to the group leader, thus me only joining speedruns if they need 1 more, not gonna just stand around). Compared to my “casual” groups (which basically means bring any gear you want) that fill up within 30secs. My casual group would be practically done with the CoF p1 run before the zerker “speedrun” group even starts. Just seems like a complete waste of time, especially since the whole point of speedrunning is quick dungeon turn-around, not necessarily running the dungeon fastest. You want to be able to finish X number of dungeons in Y time. If you have to wait a bunch of time in between each to get a group together, then what are you really accomplishing?

You missed the part where using whatever gear that will hurt the party dps will infringe on my playstyle. It is my party, I created the LFG with the title: “Zerker and experienced only!” I do not want to invite any players that will waste unnecessary time in the dungeon run with DPS so low, it will take for hours to complete.

If you don’t like the way how I play, make your own party. You don’t need to join my party. It cost 0 gold 0 silver 0 copper to make your own lfg. I do create and join parties that accept anyone. These parties do exist and there are players willing to join these parties.

So then why the need for inspect? You post you want zerker only, make them ping their gear, kick if it isn’t to your standards. Speedrunners want to run with other speedrunners and have no problem pinging their gear. In fact, most speedrun groups I’ve been in, people ping gear upon joining by default. An inspect button is simply unnecessary. You are taking the appropriate steps to make sure you play the way you want. Just like people who want to specifically do a casual run should post “casual run, all welcome, no gear req”.

I can assure you that speedrunners want to run with other speedrunners, casual runners want to run with other casual runners. You just need to clearly label what group you are. Don’t post something like “lf2m cof p1” then start asking people to ping gear when they join. That’s a waste of everyone’s time. Use “lf2m cof p1 speedrun zerker only ping gear”. You will instantly weed out casuals.

You can level a new char to 80 far faster than it will take Anet to put in a change like this. Plus it won’t cost you money. No no, YOU played through the destruction of LA, I got a very poor exposition of content. They changed so much in the game, yet the feeling is that nothing has been added to the game since launch in terms of PVE. Everything is temporary and gone long before I have an opportunity to play and enjoy.

The necessary fixes to dungeon design were, on the other hand, never made. With some nerfs done here and there because their reward system doesn’t adjust for dungeon difficulty and outright discourages attempting hard content (why take hours doing this hard path if I can get the same rewards doing the easy path that takes 20 minutes).

That is the entire point of the Living Story. If you weren’t around, you didn’t get to experience it. You only see the aftermath. They are trying a completely different approach to an MMO. As someone who has played since beta and never stopped, I find it to be absolutely awesome that the world has changed and I was there for it. Go to Kessex Hills, you will see the lake there filled with debris and the remnants of a tower. If you were playing during that event you would know why it is like that. I find that to be cool in and of itself.

Completely new players wouldn’t know the difference one way or the other. It’s all new to them anyway.

Honestly, if you weren’t playing for so long, you obviously didn’t care about the game. It’s like if I started playing WoW again after so long, I guarantee you I would have no idea what was going on, but I would understand it is because I haven’t played in forever. It is the same concept here.

Loot I could understand them taking away. Honestly I don’t care about that. But I was unimpressed with the no XP thing. Just seems like an odd choice.

I’m assuming Pavillion is on a megaserver system, but at 9:30 EST on FA, which is primetime, we had just enough people doing the Boss Blitz to kill one boss in 5min, the second boss by the 3min mark of the Silver level (so like 13min in) and then of course ended in bronze (like 30min later) because we had nowhere near the DPS to even come close to getting gold, let alone splitting into 6 equal groups to down them all simultaneously in 8min. Maybe I got a bad megaserver roll, but seriously, they take away major incentives to go to that area (xp and loot) yet have an achievement that requires a large number of relatively good players.

It’s essentially a spot for AP hunters now, which doesn’t seem to muster the numbers they anticipated it would. Maybe it was just a day one thing, hopefully more people will show up later on this event.

If it isn’t, then you are a perfect example of what is wrong with our society. You can’t expect constant and continual gratification from a game indefinitely. That is simply impossible to satisfy. Raids != Zerged content

No – if you zerg the wurm or Tequatl, you will fail.

If you don’t zerg it you lose to the timer.

You are confusing zerg with a DPS check. Common mistake. Zerg implies you can simply throw numbers at the boss and win (like most world bosses in GW2). DPS is a metric needed to meet time constraints. You cannot simply throw bodies at either of those bosses and win. Ever. You need a balance of teams doing various tasks as well as enough people doing DPS (in a separate group) to beat the clock. You clearly have only been part of the DPS groups. There are other groups that are doing other things, you should actually thank the people that aren’t in your DPS blob because they are doing the hard part while you mash 1 and hopefully dodge at appropriate times.

DPS is 100% needed to down those bosses within the time limit, but it can’t be done solely with DPS, which means it effectively isn’t zerg content.

The problem of ‘hard’ content is that it’s not an objective thing. People thought TA Aetherpath was hard, then you got people breezing through it like AC P3. You say Tequatl is easy but looking at how most attempts end in colossal failure, I don’t know about that.

Very true. Considering the vast majority of players has yet to succeed on either of those bosses would imply the content is hard. The hard part of course is getting everyone to listen and follow directions, but isn’t that the hard part of all end-game/raid content? Organizing and getting everyone to do what they are supposed to do. Sure there are gear checks in games with treadmills (WoW), but hypothetically if everyone automatically got BiS gear when they started a raid, it will all boil down to following directions, that’s it. There’s a specific way this fight needs to happen to win, so you have to do it a specific way. Every single raid boss in every game boils down to following directions, with gear checks creating artificial difficulty (where some games make monsters X levels higher, thus reducing your damage, GW2 just adds on HP for the same effect).

Teq/Wurm are just as difficult as any other game’s raid bosses, these just require significantly more coordination because of the sheer number of players required to succeed.

I can honestly say that 100% of the people in this thread would not complain if Anet said, “you know what, we decided standard running speed was kinda slow, we are going to put in a universal 20% speed increase for all classes. Speed buffs will increase the normal % based on this new base speed.” Nobody would argue with moving faster!

Now, I can also tell you the people who want mounts/want to move places faster will still ask for a speed boost. Nothing is ever fast enough. If there’s a buff that increases 33% speed (on top of the new +20%), they will now want that as the permanent speed and/or a mount or weapon buff that will make your speed that fast. Once they get a taste for moving at a faster speed, they will want it to be permanent.

Why would you want to wait until your alts are 80 to start learning them. I would feel sorry for any group doing level 80 content that was with a player that literally had no idea how to play its class. “Hold on guys, I haven’t unlocked these weapon skills yet”, “Hey can engineer use longbow? How do grenades work, what do these utility skills do?” “OMG bug I can’t weapon swap on my ele!” It would be a nightmare.

Is this whole post simply because you want to say you have a bunch of level 80s?

In WvW, you uplevel to 80 PLUS you can still level. Best of both worlds! So just play WvW, it will give you the illusion of being level 80 while still getting XP towards leveling up (would have to deal with less skills/traits, but whatever you wouldn’t know what to do with them anyway, level 80 or not).

If you want to learn your character, all their skills and traits, then PvP is the way to go. Throw your lowbies in there, do a hotjoin then start learning the class. Then hop back into WvW to level up that character.

GW2 Formula Has Become Stale

As someone very familiar with the concept of the “berserker meta” and also someone who has played since beta, I can honestly say it has never affected me.

I never run berserker, yet I have no trouble getting into any groups to run content. I take a look at the LFG list, maybe 1 on there is saying zerker only, the rest say nothing, I join those. Nobody asks me to ping gear, nobody really says anything except for “hi!”. We run the dungeons, give our “good run”s all around, and then move on. I’ve run FoTM up to 30 without ever needing zerker gear (I just now hit 55AR so will start 40-49—but in PVT w/ cleric trinkets, which has never been questioned).

I guess I personally don’t see this meta being a meta at all, except for speed running specifically. I’m honestly trying to think of a time I’ve even had someone ask if I was wearing zerker and I can’t think of one scenario. At this point most speed runners will request zerker only, just don’t join those speed run groups. Those seem to be the minority these days more than anything.

Is it the best set-up for killing things quickly? Absolutely! Is it the only set-up viable to run dungeons? Not even close.

If I can run CoF p1 in 12min with 2 level 80s, and the rest non-80s in Rare gear (none of us zerker builds), then what does it even matter. Gonna save myself 4-5min? Meh. Not worth it.

It really comes down to being a good player or not. I’d take a good Cleric’s build Guardian over a bad Zerker Guardian any day of the week. Gear doesn’t = skill. Skill = skill. 5 awesome Zerker players will be able to clear content faster, yes, this is true. But so what? Why does that bother anybody? 5 awesome players in any other gear set-up will still be able to clear content easily, just not as fast.

My GS is for DPS. If there’s another class that is spamming Might, I run Scepter/Torch or Scepter/Shield depending on what dungeon.

I’ve only run into one PUG guardian that was using staff exclusively. I just asked him what his other weapon was, he said GS, and I said use that instead, and he did.

A) buy armor less frequently to start. Every 10 levels is a bit overkill IMO. I think level 10, level 35, level 60, level 80 are good spots to upgrade armor.

B) map completion can give xmute charges, as can PvP, if you don’t want to pay for it. You can also buy gems with gold, so you don’t have to dip into your wallet.

In the end, yes the xmute change hurt non-80s a bit while making it significantly better for level 80s (having 150 xmute stones vs. like 6 xmute crystals was a completely horrible system because most people are 80 for the majority of their playing time so those stones were useless).

To play sPvP or tPvP you need to click on the Arenas button instead of Hotjoin/Play Now or Server list. Select either solo or team, and enjoy actual sPvP/tPvP.

sPvP puts teams together at random, sometimes you end up with a good split, sometimes it is one-sided (as far as skill goes). I’ve seen some pretty awesome players with low ranking and pretty terrible players with high ranking, so rank alone doesn’t mean anything except that they play frequently.

Only thing Anet care is how much money they make, and how many people still play their game.

Uhhhh, what else would a game developer care about? If either of those numbers are too low they are all out of jobs…so yea, they care a whole bunch about how much money they make and how many people still play their game. In fact, all companies care about how much money they make and how many people play/use their product. That’s the entire effing point of business otherwise you are a charitable organization. I couldn’t read all of the answer but this is my 2 cents:
I had left gw2 for a long time like you. Like 1 and a half or 2 years. Since 1-2 weeks i’m playing again and i can say; yea there are some changes nopt significant but i can say positive changes like the trait system or almost every map has its own boss and changed mechanics. More ascended gear can be gained by doing them. Slow but yea it’s fun.

How the heck can you say the trait system is a positive change? Maybe the free re-traiting, and maybe faster sorting… but the kitten progression (Starting at 30, but not picking up until the last 10 levels) and trait locking have absolutely destroyed the game.

Gonna go ahead and disagree with you here. My non-80 alts post patch kill things just as easily as my non-80 alts did pre-patch.

This game is not difficult. Those traits added a negligible amount of added damage/protection/utility. It isn’t a big deal at all. Heck I still forget I even have trait points, just like I did pre-patch, because you know what, it doesn’t even matter! My level 60 alt is still in level 35 gear and I can easily kill things. Pretty sure I haven’t used trait points since level 35 either, I would have to check. It really makes no difference in this game while leveling up if you use traits or not. Traits only really come into play while doing dungeons/sPvP/or WvW.

You are really only upset because they took away a carrot every level. Oh boy I have a point to put into something! Huzzah! Now that it is every 5 levels or whatever, the game is destroyed…over-react much?

I barely just hit 2k AP and I’m bored. Granted, there’s a lot I can’t really do because I don’t have a reliable group of people to play with, but I’ve done some dungeons, I’ve done some FotM, and without friends, they’re no fun.

I’ve pretty much done everything the average player could do solo, much of it several times, and now I’m relegated to the champ train until the Living Story comes out. And that will only be entertaining for so long…

I too yearn for meaningful, permanent content

Edit: I also have been playing since beta, for the record

Sounds like you need some friends :*( Or a single player game to play.

Playing since beta and having 2k AP is the craziest thing I’ve ever heard. Either you made a character at beta and quit for 1.5 years, or you play approximately 5min/day.

Farm gold/buy gold online/buygems—>gold, Open up TP, purchase precursor, craft legendary. Rinse and repeat for every legendary.

Or ez mode: same as above but just buy the legendary from the beginning.

But the rose is currently very pricy, and originally linked to content which is coming back in a few days. There was an account bound version you could get trading fortune scraps (?) and tradeable one from the race. I remember it very clearly because they added it to the scraps vendor after I’d blown all mine on rng boxes, was very annoyed.

You can actually get the rose from the southsun survival mini game still IIRC, though very rarely.

This sounds familiar, I think you may be right. Very rare chance at that backpiece.

Legendary Armor: Yes or No?

15k AP…. ow…

/15kSadCharrs

For legendary armor, 15k AP sounds like a completely fair number. You should at least have that Masterful Achiever title. A good % of players are at 10k+ AP at this point in the game.

For reference: I have 12.2k AP and 1250 total hours played across all characters. Should be able to hit 15k by the 1500-1600 hrs played mark. Doesn’t seem unreasonable to me for legendary armor. I mean, it’s legendary!

When you actually work to get AP, it comes pretty quick. Obvious channels of course are doing all daily categories, all monthly categories, do all of the JPs, do all Explorer achieves, do all LS achieves when they become available, all WvW tourny achieves, WvW achieves in general, PvP achieves, crafting achieves, X monster kills, personal story achieves for each race, mini-game achieves, FoTM achieves, dungeon achieves. It’s actually pretty easy to get this stuff if you focus on it.

You would have to actually AP hunt essentially. That’s the legendary aspect I’m suggesting.

Okay.

Well great for those achievement hunters. I see nothing at all legendary about killing 1000 skelk.

Clearly you don’t think legendary armor would be an actual achievement worth, well, achieving then.

And you don’t have to kill 1000 skelk. Supplement that AP with 1 day’s worth of dailies. Point is, it can be done. If you have Ascended armor, you had to grind gold to buy the mats, or grind the mats themselves, plus max your crafting, plus have laurels and gold for the recipes. You would replace gold grinding with AP grinding. (and for the people that chime in with “but GW2 said there would be no grind!!”— anything that is a long term goal is a grind, if you want something long term to work towards, it will have to include a grind, there’s no way around it, otherwise everyone and their cousin can get it, thus losing the prestige, unless of course they just gift it to you when you hit X years played…)

I’ve never grinded for monster kills btw, I played the game normally across 8 different characters at this point, and have all 1000 kills completed except for Jotun and Giants.

My point is 15k AP is not that difficult to get if you are motivated to get it, and I would like to think legendary armor would be a good motivator.

But if 15k AP seems so horrible then maybe 10k AP.

I won’t stop because I can’t stop.

My opinion on GW2 armor: They have a 50% success ratio with their designs. I think that is a fair number considering the number of horrible, horrible designs they’ve put out, especially on the gem store of all places!

However, even with those terrible sets, some of the pieces from said horrible sets aren’t as horrible and actually can work well when doing a mix-and-match. That doesn’t excuse disasters like the Ascended sets, though.

When I see they come out with a new set on gem store it almost always goes like this: “click heavy. ugh (especially if you play Sylvari, or pretty much anything non-human, the shoulder pads jesus comically gigantic, so bad). click light. omg ew. click medium. ehhh, gloves and shoulders look kinda cool. I guess..”

I would love guild halls, personally. However, if they don’t add them I also wouldn’t care. I never played GW1, so I didn’t have any expectations going into GW2. The last game I played that even had a guild hall was Asheron’s Call, back in 2002 or something. Every game since then I’ve played never had them and I don’t recall anyone caring about it.
