I think we should all agree that all games have a grind. Be it grinding for crafting, money, leveling, killing X monsters, what have you. Skyrim? A grind. Final Fantasy games? A grind. Infamous/Dark Souls/GTA/etc? A grind. Civilization/any competitive RTS? A grind. Any fighting game? A grind. Racing games? A grind. Any FPS? A grind. They all have grinds. That’s how they keep you playing a game for longer than one hour.
The only difference is personal tolerance to grinding. Some folks are sensitive to it, some folks are not. It’s clear by the sheer polarization on these forums. How else can you explain one person saying GW2 is the most grindy game they’ve ever played and another saying it is the least grindy game they’ve ever played. Different strokes, people. Different strokes. No point in arguing.
It’s a medical condition, they say its terminal….
Look up what WoW added between release and the first expansion. Just google it. There is a wiki.
Compare it to GW2, than you might understand why people are upset.
Look up how much you had to pay to play WoW between release and the first expansion, and you’ll understand why you shouldn’t be upset.
If you’ve played WoW since the game first came out (and only have one account) you’re guaranteed to be in the hole ~$2000. I’m quite alright with my $60 game that has cost me roughly $.05/hr to play (at 1200hrs play time) and still find entertaining.

The mystery one is for wanting random. You should invest in an endless quaggan tonic or something.

Do have to say that I’ve never had a problem with Reviver daily. The starter zones have areas with plenty of NPCs to revive. It sounds to me that OP is complaining that the spots where he could knock Daily Reviver out in 1min (such as ReactOr) aren’t as viable because of population increases via Megaserver. Sounds like a frivolous complaint to me.
Personally if I see I’m in an area with a lot of people trying to revive, I revive an NPC for like 1sec then move to the next one. You get credit for one tick of reviving. Just go around and tag them all and you get credit when they are finished by everyone else. Plus it’s good practice anyway because that way you aren’t hogging them all for yourself. If more and more people do this there will be less of an issue such as OP described.

A find a lot of armor and weapon skins downright terrible. Especially some of the armors in the gem store of all places. Where people need to spend money to get them.
Not saying there aren’t good skins as well, but boy some are just plain bad.

To make a humorous observation: don’t you guys think its funny that people nowadays can say things like “And when I click next on auction house I need to wait 1 second. Why is it so slow ?”
Seriously. We consider 1 second “so slow”. ONE second. Times….they are a-changin’

Any Norn male in T3 armor with Abyss/Celestial combo armor. Come on people, the black&white thing is absolutely overdone.
Any male human Thief in Abyss dyed gear with a hood or a mask over his mouth.
My favorite character is my Charr necro believe it or not. Made him small and wiry, like the runt of the litter that turned to the dark side to take revenge on all of his litter mates that made fun of him. I also made him a brother, typical Charr GS warrior, as big and fat as possible on purpose. I imagine them hating each other. I guess I RP when I character create lol.

Maybe you should try it one day to see that dodging is not enough.
You second argument is completely out of scope because I’m talking about FoTM and you almost don’t skip anything in FoTM.
Are you telling me people don’t skip content/mobs in Dredge and Ascalon? That they don’t exploit the final seals in Cliffside by leaving one guy alive on the first seal so that mobs don’t spawn on that side? And don’t stack for the Cliffside boss for example or Champ Rabsovich encounter?
Those are things that I know all "good"players in FoTM do because it is simply easier. My point was that those things should not be allowed to be considered a good PvE player. You should have to full clear the dungeon and fight all bosses and encounters without stacking anywhere, ever.
I just wanted to be clear on that because judging simply on completion time doesn’t necessarily mean a group is comprised of better players. It means they are comprised of players that know ways to exploit the basic GW2 mechanics to make it easier. Admittedly these mechanics allow for players to do these things, but I certainly don’t think that’s what they intended for the encounters.

Eventually dyes prices will rise to a high level. Please keep in mind that dyes no longer drop out in the world anymore and that the market is currently flooded with an excess of dye because of the account-wide patch to the dye system.
It is still very much a market for buyers. There will be a day when players won’t believe that you could ever buy a dye for so little.
This. I wouldn’t be suprised if one day dyes cost in excess of 20g once they fall below the 1k mark. But its a long time for now due to the market being flooded.
I would be very surprised if unid dyes ever hit 20g, with anything remotely resembling current prices for other items. The drop rate has been reduced, but so has demand; for that, individual dye prices would also have to be astronomical, but ANet provides dyes in dye packs for gems at a rate better than that.
The change from 1 laurel -> 2 dyes to 5 laurels -> 1 dye seems like it makes sense if the average account has as many as 10 characters -- with N characters, you get potentally Nx value from a dye now since you can use it on all N characters.
They didn’t just reduce the drop rate, they eliminated the drop rate completely, it is 0%. Plus with the dye packs it is still RNG. You may very well get dyes you already have (which is a kick to the groin when you shelled out some gems for it), versus going on the TP to scroll through and buy dyes you know you need. That’s why I foresee the dyes themselves being more valuable in the future than UIDs.
People are getting over the gems for RNG items pretty quick let me tell you.
It’s a medical condition, they say its terminal….
Smart investors should be buying up UIDs by the stack-ful. Assuming you plan on playing this game at least another year or two when the value is likely to jump quite a bit. At the very least, if UID values don’t recover because of lack of demand, it would be because players can seek out specific colors on the TP instead of playing RNG to finish their collection. In that event, use all of your UIDs and sell the dyes themselves. They will go up in value, a lot. In the future of course.

It depends on whether you can corner for squat. It depends on what you’re up against. It depends on the actions of other racers. All that extra horsepower’s no good if you’re stuck behind a load of cars blocking you, or your opponents can outmanoeuvre you or otherwise outsmart you.
Exactly, or better yet let’s talk about player skill, or in this case driver skill. One guy with a 500HP car and another with 550HP. The guy with 500HP is a far superior driver, can shift absolutely perfectly. The guy with 550HP is a sloppy driver, shifts like a grandma. The guy with 500HP will still win the race. So to him, it would not be necessary to win the race by having 10% extra HP. And to keep with the analogy, PvE in GW2 would be akin to a race where everyone wins, you just have to make it across the finish line and all are rewarded the same trophy. So in the end it that HP difference means nothing. Ok you finished the race in 50secs, you get a gold trophy, next guy finishes the race in 3min 45sesc, he gets a gold trophy. Means nothing.
What we’re really talking about can never be compared anyway. Two players fighting with identical gear will always come down to player skill. That is the only argument you could make anyway for needing Ascended gear. And the chances of going up against a player with your exact level of playing skill in a 1v1 where nobody else gets involved is pretty slim, bordering impossible. Making Ascended gear completely unnecessary for 99% of the game (again, high level FoTM it is completely necessary for AR).
It’s a medical condition, they say its terminal….
So…the best Zerker player award is what you’re suggesting? Which is essentially the best dodger award? Being the best at dodging in Zerker gear and burning mobs down/skipping content does not constitute (in my mind) the best players. Best players would be the ones that can coordinate fields properly, clear conditions/boons properly. Not who can stack in a corner, and max DPS bosses.
EDIT: If they could have dungeon runs where there could be Anet spectators/judges where players were NOT allowed to stack or skip ANY content, then I might consider it a worthwhile award. Actually having to fight the bosses as intended rather than cheesy tactics, that would help separate good players versus DPS stack speedrunners.

I’m not going to bother arguing with people who claim that a 10-15% damage increase is “irrelevant”.
It’s not that it is irrelevant, it’s that it will rarely come into play. sPvP it obviously doesn’t come into play, in dungeons it doesn’t come into play (unless you speed run and are looking to shave off 2min from your run…), WvW it doesn’t come into play except in the rarest of circumstances.
That’s the point we are trying to make. That 10-15% that is OMGSOMUCH, will rarely be utilized for benefit. How often do you come upon content that has a gear check for Ascended (outside of high level FOTM for the AR course)? Never. In WvW, solo roaming will get you killed more often than not because the vast majority of players understand there is safety in numbers. 2 good players in Rares will kill 1 guy in Ascended. Your stats can’t keep up with Rare stats x2 and x2 the damage skills being used on you, they just can’t.
You may think you need that extra 10-15%, but in reality you do not.
It’s a medical condition, they say its terminal….
OP if you have 31g you will never have to worry about WP costs. Ever. How many times are you WPing in a single day? Even 20 times (which is a ton) would be less than 1g, how the heck is that a money sink when you already stated you make 1-2g/day and “don’t make money easily”. In a typical night I WP maybe 10 times. I actually plan to stay in the areas I go to rather than WP to a new zone. I also don’t just WP any time I need to go somewhere else in the current zone I’m in. If it’s clear across the map then sure, but if you are WPing to save yourself 1min of running then your poorness is self-inflicted.
Like someone said, if you took the 30-45min to run AC p1 & p3, that would net you 3g (not including drops), enough for 100 WPs. Learn some money management!
It’s a medical condition, they say its terminal….
Um, it’s pretty simple. If I want to remain competitive, and be the best I could be, I have to have max stats in WvW. I have to have max stats in PvE as well, because I’m one of those people who actually CARE about doing very well, and I hate dragging the team down.
I will simply have to disagree. What you are calling being competitive in WvW is a real niche area (small group roaming for equivalent small groups, which rarely happens). Why do I say that? Because, for example, last night I took my level 33 character into WvW to level (and also for the AP of course), ended the night with 244 kills, 10+ tower captures, 2 SMC captures, something like 22 camps captured, don’t know how many dolyaks killed, etc. Compared to the guy running with me with full Ascended/Legendary? Exactly the same. We both left WvW with exactly the same results. If anything I had more kills because I could range AoE and he was melee.
I’m not saying there aren’t specific scenarios when being BiS for everything wouldn’t be a benefit, but to say it is even remotely required to be competitive is a complete lie and you know it. WvW is a numbers game, it always has been and it always will be. To base your argument around the rare 1v1 encounter in WvW (which if you are searching for 1v1s in WvW then you are doing your server a disservice because its a complete was of time and energy) is simply a weak argument.
Let’s talk FoTM/dungeons now. The majority of players won’t play above FoTM30 and absolutely no dungeon requires Ascended gear. I’ve run countless dungeons in full Exotic gear and never dragged my group down. I’ve run FoTM up to 30 in full Exotic/Ascended Acc and never dragged the group down. The only reason you even need Ascended armor passed FoTM30 is to get your AR higher, not because of the damage boost. If you could get 55+ AR on Exotic gear I guarantee you people would clear all FoTM in Exotic gear without issue. I know I would.
Fact is, you are grinding because you feel like grinding. For some reason you’ve convinced yourself you absolutely need these things to be competitive and/or not to drag your group down when that simply isn’t the reality, hate to break it to you.
High level fractals is the only argument you can make as to needing to get Ascended, because of the AR. For everything else it is completely unnecessary and has no bearing on your success whatsoever. If you want to do that niche content, then yes you will have to work harder than everyone else for it. They added content like this specifically for people that want to work harder for it.
It’s a medical condition, they say its terminal….
Agree with Kaz here I don’t see the issue.
It’s a medical condition, they say its terminal….
It really comes down to personal preference and what you perceive as grind. For me I find GW2 to be the least grindy game I’ve ever played, in comparison to games like (UO, AC, AC2, WoW, AoC, CoH, DCUO, Aion, Lineage2, EVE, and countless others).
I’ve read posts so far that feel completely the opposite and give very little tangible evidence as to why other than the fact that they a) feel it is more grindy and b) the other grinds were more enjoyable and thus didn’t feel like grind.
That’s really what it boils down to. If you like killing monsters over and over and over for marginal % increase to level (like in Lineage2) but absolutely hate having to run GW2 dungeon paths over and over for gold, then you simply dislike GW2’s form of “grinding” and prefer others.
Everyone in this thread that has claimed GW2 is the grindiest game ever just seem to dislike GW2 in general. Playing GW2 is like work to them and unenjoyable. Which certainly begs the question: why the heck are you still here? And if you’ve stopped playing, why the heck are you on the forums?
It’s a medical condition, they say its terminal….
The ex-content people aren’t considering content required a lot of time from a team of people to develop. Just because it isn’t available anymore doesn’t mean Anet has been sitting around doing nothing. It was new content that was generated but is no longer available. It isn’t fair to say they haven’t added content just because it is no longer available. That was time and energy spent by the design team to implement. They still get credit for doing it.
It’s like someone making a wedding cake. They could have slaved all week to make that thing. After the wedding it is all gone and eaten. Would it make sense to tell that baker “dude, I don’t see any cake, you haven’t been doing anything!”
Anet has been doing a great job generating content. It just happens to not be permanent. Obviously a lot of people don’t like that.

Guardians are very, very stale, and the Grandmaster traits we were given this feature pack patch are ridiculous.
Those Grandmaster traits are just what racial utilites and elites are, joke abilities that no one would use anywhere for competitive playing or maximum effectiveness. They are only for silly builds to joke around with and have a gag about, nothing more.
Guardians are far from useless. Guardians are probably the most used profession everywhere. But it’s so stale and so boring it’s sad.
Guardians still have their problems with bugs, bad synergy with traits, and underperforming weapon abilities, as well as useless signets and spirit weapon utilities.
I dunno man, I think the new Guardian GM traits in sPvP are great. IMO it is one of the most fun classes to play in sPvP. PvE feels a bit stale, but PvP definitely not.

A suggestion that I’ve always felt would be a good change:
Make racial cities free to travel to if you are that race, and take them off megaserver. That would reduce the number of people going to one spot like Vigil’s Keep because it is free to travel elsewhere, a lot of people argue that WPing is too expensive so this would appease them. Keep Vigil’s Keep (or wherever the hub ends up) on Megaserver. That would allow for a nice meeting area for many servers, plus the ones that are anti-megaserver can travel to a non-megaserver area for free, so they would be satisfied.
But Vigil’s Keep has portals to the other cities! If you are going there just to go to another place, then you’re just passing through so why would you even care if it was megaserver.

My guess is that high level areas are supposed to mean there are monsters that roam freely that heroes like us need to kill. People wouldn’t start a village in a place like this. Certainly wouldn’t start farming in an area like that. Those kinds of places would have outposts, keeps, fortified areas filled mostly with military types. This would be a place that the villagers in the 1-15 zones would never want to go.
To me at least it breaks immersion being in this quaint, peaceful area helping villagers kill monsters down the quiet, babbling creek that are max level difficult monsters.
What the hell are you people doing in a place with monsters like this! Why would you start your family here! Why are you having a festival?! No I don’t want to help you pick apples from the orchard down the way, there are champions down there!! Where have you been getting your apples then, I’ll go there because I know you aren’t killing champions you’re in a burlap vest.

I guess if the whole point of playing GW2 for you has been to get a precursor drop, then yes you could ask the question why keep playing. But for most people, myself included, precursors are just one thing to work toward, not the only thing. I personally have never had a percursor drop in 1200hrs play time. Do I care? Nah. I’ve blown well over 500g in the Mystic Toilet at this point trying to get a precursor drop. Spread across a year and a half. It’s whatever.

You guys clearly don’t get it, if Anet puts in something that is optional, it means it is required to complete, and thus worthy of complaining on the forums. Everyone knows that!

Zerging world bosses is one thing you can do at end-game, but does not work on the actual hard bosses that they revamped (Tequatl/TripleTroubleWurm). People fail that constantly because they think they can just zerg it and not actually coordinate and plan ahead of time.
Moving from WoW to GW2 will be a drastic change in end-game. In GW2 you pretty much have to be able to make your own fun. WvW is popular because it can be different each time you go, but also it’s kinda the same each time you go, just one of those things. PvP I personally find extremely enjoyable, but others also find it repetitive because there is currently only one game type.
Doing 5man dungeons is popular as well, but typically it is for money grinding once you get the skins you want from them.
If you are used to raiding and that is what you legitimately enjoy for end-game, then you will be disappointed with GW2, that’s all I can really say. I was a huge raiding fan in my WoW days but simply got burned out.
Some people on GW2 forums whine a lot about things changing recently (rebalancing stats and such)and now they have to replace gear, wasted time and money etc., when they don’t realize that’s what you had to do every quarter pretty much playing WoW. Oh hey, finally finished my sweet armor set after several months? Surprise it’s obsolete come this patch!
GW2 is great if you are casual. If you like the hard-core aspect and spending a majority of your day playing, then personally I feel you would get bored relatively quickly.

“If 2v1s are bothering you, stay out of any competitive gaming.”
If only it was that easy. World completion requires you to part take in competitive play.
It requires you to go to an area that has competitive play. You don’t actually have to engage in competitive play. Saying otherwise is just a blatant lie. I’ve successfully mapped WvW without getting into any kind of fight. You just hop in, get everything you can that your side owns in your BL, check EB, if your side has Stonemist, sweet, go grab everything you can there, and everything in your corner.
Then you go back to playing the PvE game and check periodically to see if your color has changed. Then just do it again. Mapping WvW will always require multiple trips in to get the spawn points for each color, there’s no way around it. But you certainly don’t have to do any kind of PvP if you don’t want to.
I always suggest people do BL/EB mapping during peak hours, because odds are most players will be busy focusing on capping things rather than chasing down the random straggler trying to map. Plus, if you come up on an spot that you see a bunch of the enemies, run to a safe spot, say something in /map, wait 5min and odds are they will be gone. If enemy has capped a tower on your side, just leave and come back later, those things flip constantly.

Honestly it really sounds like you transmuted the stats to a different skin, correct?
Which means you destroyed that skin in the process to move the T3 stats (which are Rare stats what the heck were you thinking).
I just don’t get the logic of destroying the skin pre-patch like that. The skin is what goes into the wardrobe, not the stats.
What you described honestly sounds like you simply didn’t understand the way the wardrobe was going to work.
If I were Anet Customer Service I would just look at the Phalanx Armor you have, check the stats, it should still have the T3 name since for some reason weapon/armor names are stat based instead of skin-based. That would be enough proof for me.
Odds are they won’t put that effort into it.
Replacing 109g, while seemingly an undertaking, isn’t difficult if you are actually working towards it. Just start hitting up dungeon paths every day. That will be the cost of making the mistake.
Sorry, bud, tis a shame indeed.
If it makes you feel any better, I bought T2 sets for all of the races for achievement purposes, didn’t have room in my bank to store them so I destroyed them. Now I have to buy them all over again to unlock the skins =( Pretty sure that will add up to about the same.

Why not just salvage them to unlock?
Because i want to sell them to vendor?

There is only a lack of diversity in speed running. Capable players can defeat the dungeons with any reasonable build, full diversity. Inexperienced players are no better with dps builds than survival builds if they don’t know tactics.
Agree completely. For example, this weekend myself and two guildmates decided to run some alts through AC paths. Level 31, level 40, and level 45. We PUG’d two level 80s to finish up the group, neither were zerker. We did all 3 paths, took roughly 15-20min depending on path. No wipes.
So, yea, this “required” meta everyone is talking about is strictly for speedrunning. If I cared about running the AC paths in 10min versus 15-20min, then maybe I’d be all into the zerker thing, but seriously, these dungeons do not require zerker in any way shape or form.
Let the speedrunners do what they please, they can do paths twice as fast (sometimes). That’s it. Cool. In the end we all get the same rewards. I’ve never tried putting together a zerker only group before, but I would imagine there would be some wait time versus literally instant joins for our group (which was odd I figured the two PUG 80s would leave immediately when they saw we were lowbies— experienced lowbies, but lowbies nonetheless). So the completion times may not be that different when its all said and done.
Another example: my non-zerker guild dungeon team comprised of whatever class in whatever gear you feel like, can do CoF p1 in ~10-12min. What’s a good speedrunner time on CoF p1? 6-7min? Meh. I’ll stick with my non-zerker build.
It’s a medical condition, they say its terminal….
Gotta disagree a bit with this post. I find the leveling speed and difficulty has not changed, or if anything, has become easier. This is coming from someone who is notorious for never spending trait points. No joke I’ve hit level 55-60, then realized, doh! trait points! And then spent them all. If you keep your gear current, the traits really don’t matter leveling up. Sure, it’s nice, but completely unnecessary in this game.
Current alt is a 46 Mesmer who was sub-30 right at the start of the patch, so I’ve leveled through the “hard” part OP is talking about. It went by completely unnoticed. I’m pretty sure I still have to spend my trait points on that Mesmer, that’s how little a difference it makes…
If my GF who has the keyboard coordination of a blind monkey can level 4 chars to 80, one of which was an ele, you can too. And if you asked her about trait points, I’m pretty sure she wouldn’t even know what you were talking about. I’m not even sure she knows what the Hero panel is…
