I played planetside for 7 years.
When planetside had that bug that let you get people into the maps above the pop cap, oh boy were there lag issues.
Also planetside in my mind was lagging all the time the way the netcode was designed, which is why lag-strafing was really really annoying. (spam strafe keys in such a way to abuse the netcode to cause your character to warp from side to side). So in a way planetside always lagged. And all sorts of high latency abuses that let that player hit still targets, even though the target should have been moving. (Client side hit detection).

I was commenting on the fact that Ebay is taking keeps and not defending them – which I define as a karma train. And they are choosing to not attack SoS in NA prime, even though you claim SoS is weak in NA prime comparatively. Now if Ebay doesn’t care about winning the matchup karma training is just fine, nothing wrong with that. But if they want to win, they need to gain a lot of PPT in NA prime while SoS gets as little as possible. That means turning SoS BL Red, and taking as much as you can from kain BL while SoS BL is red.
I saw ebay took SoS keeps on SoS BL on sunday, but Monday it just seemed to turn into a karma train which is disappointing.

Conditons are a lot weaker in group settings than they are in solo play. Maybe if we can find a way to balance conditions to make them weaker in 1v1 situations and more viable in group situations it could remain fair for both sides.
(conditions are weak in small group to zerg play because of the amount of aoe condi clear).

Hoping, but doubt it will bring small scale pvp back to WvWs.
Considering I`ve seen servers of late having 60+ players just rushing to flip camps, I`ve no doubt they`ll also now sit mid & have a few at each node & will just zerg to their aid each time required.
Even worse, imagine that bloodlust buff combined with all the SR kittene helping to flip towers…Game over man, game over!
I would expect when the map is released that area is going to be real zergy, not because that’s how its best played, but its something new in wvw and everyone wants to play in the new stuff.

GW2 runs a combat engine optimised for complex small group (max 5v5) PvP.
Then this same 5v5 combat model gets used in larger scale WvW (and PvE).WvW will be much better when Anet starts to tweak the GW2 combat system to better accommodate larger scale battles.
In particular, the condition system, which grows exponentially with the scale of the battle, needs to be simplified for large scale combats. Doing this will reduce thelag problems and free up capacity for things like raising the 5 target cap on AoE.
Some suggestions on how to reduce the condition system’s impact on larger battles can be found here.
I do think the condition system is one of the major contributing factors to lag in large battles. However all the solutions are not simple and are far more reaching than just WvW. So I wouldn’t expect too much drastic changes. We might see changes on the backend to simplify the servers responsibility, but they will be minor, and we probably wont notice them often as players.

Also because StarCraft doesn’t calculate boons, armor, buffs, might, vulnerability, weapon damage, crit chance, crit damage, traits and distance from the center of AoEs.
And it’s not the 80 people being on the map, it’s the 80 people FIGHTING on the map.
It’s pretty much impossible to get that amount of people/AI fighting at the same time on 1 map in a MOBA.
Please don’t compare shooter calculations to RPG calculations. Shooters like CoD and Battlefield(as far as I know) don’t have armor, crit chance, crit damage, boons, power scaling and probably other things that I can’t remember right now. At the same time GW2 has projectile calculations like a shooter.
BTW aren’t shooters always limited to 64 players or even lower numbers? I remember interviews discussing 64 players in Battlefield 4 being a big thing.I think I’d have caused you an aneurysm if I used a more abstract analogy.
Your defense of Anet’s ineptitude is noble, but misguided. This is a partially defective product/consumer service (if we count online-based games as the latter). There’s no excuse for it one year after it has been released.

There are some pretty simple solutions to the problem. To give the most basic, once the map cap drops to around 60, skill lag ceases to be a problem most of the time. And although this seems unreasonable to some due to queue time, it seems as though its almost something that Anet is leaning towards doing, but not right now. Why? Because they are looking at releasing more maps in the future and will have more places to spread their server population.
The other alternative might be, as they have hinted, is map redesign in some way along with releasing of new maps. And I think this is what they are looking at.
The fact is the servers cannot handle the load they are running. But they released them that way either knowing or not having stress tested them thoroughly, so one way or another the ones is on them. We are one year in and as far as I can tell, the solution they are looking at, new maps, is a long way away yet.
Keep in mind in beta people didn’t run around in tightly packed stacks of players fighting other tightly packed stacks of players. If the action is more spread out the servers can handle it. Sure they can lower the map cap and eliminate the lag that way, but for most of the time there isn’t one big 300 man battle.
So again,
What game has 300 player battles that doesn’t lag?

The problem is the general ignorance of people in general when it comes to the topic. There is no secret switch to remove lag. Every MMO with massive RvR type combat has the same issue, and none of them have actually solved it 100%.
So you shouldn’t buy any more RvR type games if you don’t want lag.

Actually, Lemongrass counters conditions extremely well, even against Pizza buffs. Conditions are calculated for all additional duration, then diminished condition duration. Hence:
100% + pizza (40%) = 140% duration
140% + lemongrass (-40%) = .6 × 140% = 84% duration.Wrong, there was another threat, where some1 made experiments on those condition duration thingies and showed that inna video. And it turned out that it’s simply: 100%+40%-40%=100%
My testing has shown otherwise.

I was defending Lake when someone tried this and I believe that all it accomplishes is the destruction of the bridge and it does not create an entrance to the tower.

Take it up with your folks on your own borderlands who left our ninja catas intact after we took NW Tower so we could cap it again 15 min later.
Basically I think all three servers are embarrassing themselves, SoS and EBay with these karma trains (EB even left a karma banner inside SoS Bay this morning) and Kaineng by only fighting 6pm to 9pm both nights.
I don’t know who felt the pain more today, SoS for almost blowing their lead or EBay realizing they ran rampant all day but still couldn’t close the gap.
The one thing I’m pleased about, is that Ebay can field guilds and put up a great fight with even numbers. That’s something we haven’t seen consistently from any of the servers we have faced lately.
SoS fairweathers are getting a wake-up call and hopefully will start investing in some WvW gear and builds.
So fighting you guys when we have people is an embarrassment?
Showing up to fight 2 servers that outpop us by a lot is not an embarrassment.

Bleh, yes some siege is better than others, but they all have their uses. I wouldn’t call cannons/oil useless in this new meta of golem rushing empty or near empty keeps. One person or two people on ac’s is not going to stop a golem rush, but 2 people on cannons can force the attacking force to have to spend time killing the cannons/oil first, or their golems die. Forcing the attackers to dps oil/cannons buys time for the defender to call in reinforcement.
Field ballista to take out trebuchets and defend chokes with its very powerful #4 attack is certainly very viable right now. They are defiantly not quite as useful overall as an arrow cart.
Catapults are being used more than ever, so I don’t know why they are even in your useless list as they are in fact, quite useful.

mist form and shrink stomps are far more annoying than stealth stomps
Stab stomp is also much harder to stop than a stealth stomp.
I laugh at the majority of thieves that attempt a stealth stomp. if they are running any kind of burst build they shouldn’t be stomping at all. Even the tanker builds a thief doesn’t want to stick in a single spot for too long. Good teams will put down a lot of damage on their downed allies just to catch bad thieves going for stealth stomps.

This is not an exploit. Just emergent gameplay.
You can portal directly from immunity areas not only to garrison but to your borderland east and west towers. You can portal from immunity areas right into enemy groups as well as long as they are within portal’s range.
It requires the awareness and coordination of the server to be able to do it, if people don’t know the portal is going to be there no one is going to be there to take it. Portal has a decently long cooldown as well and a limit of porting 20 people per portal. If you suspect this is an exploit, you can email exploits at arena dot net. I would just chalk it up to home field advantage.

We sincerely would have liked to. Unfortunately, every time we’d settle in for a push against YB, we’d have to leave to go chase some vultures out of our yard.
And every time we went to yaks bl, gom ran to ours. Its how the game is being played. Sometimes when you push a bl the other server joins in, but not always. For the weekdays it seemed like everytime X attacked Y’s BL – Z would attack X’s BL. (case in point, YB attacked kain’s BL early in the week and GoM attacked YBBL instead of joining YB on kainbl).
Frankly, GoM has always been about putting pressure on the first place server. Most of the time we hit Kain was to spread the attention and get what points we could. I in fact remember on more than a few occasions Kain hitting YB, then we (GoM) making a move to other side of the map to use the distraction to hit YB. As to your example, the answer is simple: YB was in first. GoM plays for first. Makes the choice easy for us.
I do kind of think it funny that you turn the double team talk back on GoM… considering both YB and Kain were in GoM in full force in the opening min of the matchup. You thought us weak and easy pickings. You now know better.
There is a reason I said weekday instead of ‘all week’. Because yes, during the weekend it was a double team on GoM BL. Something kaineng had to deal with for 2 months in a row (the double team being primarily on our home BL). On reset there were no GoM on kaineng BL, there were a few Yak groups but besides a GoM Havoc or solo we didn’t see them. So after securing our BL we went where the action was, with YBBL secure GoM BL became the defacto hotspot.
Its kinda the trend I’ve noticed with weekends in the mid teirs. The weakest (by that I mean the server who is last to secure all three of their keeps) server tends to host the three way until Sunday night. Then the borderlands get round robin’d. If you successfully defeat the golem rush on your BL your bl will be ignored for a while.
Its simply how the game is currently played. I kind of wish there was more actual point incentive to not be a vulture but to take and defend objectives.

Why do people keep using vabbi as an example?
Vabbi is mostly dead wvw server. It simply does not have much of a wvw population, no matter who you match it against, it gets stomped and stomped hard.
To fix it arenanet needs to merge the bottom 3 uk servers into 3 other uk servers. I think anet overestimated the number of uk players. Note that other language eu servers have populations and are all fighting. and on the us side even our bottom teir servers are putting up points in wvw. But in EU? The bottom two servers consistently fail to score significant points. Its time for them to be closed.
