Uh, you can move while using final thrust, so unless your opponent dodges/blocks you should land it. And its huge damage so the windup is understandable. I’m landing 5k crits with it running a knights setup.

I don’t want leap changed either, yes you can miss targets below you, but I use this skill combined with death from above to blow apart groups of people. If anet changes it to angle the skill down it will lower the effectiveness of the skill for me.

I do agree that the rush style skills still need cleaning up, but I don’t find it nearly as bad as you make it sound.

Then again I find GS a rather selfish weapon to run in WvW, and I prefer Hammer by a long shot. GS offers no blast finishers, no stun, no knockback, and a single cripple.

I ran hammer in WvW and SPVP for a loong time I love hammer, but now it has even bigger issues than greatsword, blinds destroy the weapon, especially the now super buffed blinds. The cool downs on hammer are too long without the trait merciless hammer, and now with Cleansing Ire being in the same tier, the hammers issues really come to light. Hammer without the merciless hammer trait just feels like an incomplete weapon, skill 4 is worthless excelt in highly situational situations, and 30 sec cd on a single target backbreaker (obvious animation, with a huge wind-up) feels out of place. Earthshaker is amazing but the amount of blind spam, teleports, evasion spam, and stability going around makes it feel like a guessing game on whether the targets will be stunned or not.

Of course you can move with Final Thrust, but that doesn’t mean a clunky bad skill is ok. Try landing final thrust on a Mesmer, or thief, or any class kiting you with ranged or cripple, and chill. It’s not happening.

I do agree that blind really cripples warriors, but is that really a problem? Or is that a balance consideration and acceptable counter play.

IF your playing a GS warrior you are going to go in and out of combat and kill someone someone else is already fighting – not sticking around for long duels with an enemy. with the final thrust addition it added more burst on sword if you were using that weapon (bulls charge, HB, swap, burst, FT).

I don’t particularly have a problem with FT as long as it retains high damage. Its fine to be hard to land on good opponents.

Warriors issues come from an overall weakness to conditions, and low sustain in fights compared to other classes. Combined with weak evasion options warriors simply die too soon and too easily.

I do agree that leap/rush abilities need cleanup. Its obviously a tricky problem.

Theif is much worse than a ranger in zerg combat.

Rangers can provide long lasting water fields and fire fields, and is very survivable and can help absorb aoe damage. As well as decent range.

Thief pretty much only brings blast finishers to zerg combat and stealth fields to slip a Mesmer out with a portal ready.

Condition duration reduction is OP because of how the math works. 50% increase in duration isn’t just canceled by -50% duration.

Say I have a 4 second bleed. I have +50% condition duration. It’s up to 6. The other person has -50% condition duration. It’s down to 3 now. It not only counters it, but then reduces it even more.

Because of how the math is… a build that has a 33% condition duration trait (like dogged march) plus 25% from runes (Melandru) and then 40% from Lemongrass… for a total of 98% condition duration reduction… is nearly immune to certain conditions… permanently… and 65% for the rest.

Lets do the math on 100% duration vs 98% reduction now… 4s chill becomes 8s. 98% reduction means it lasts 0.16 seconds.

For condition damage you’ll also need to factor in the damage loss to include the partial seconds that remain as they tick every 1 second (a 3.9 second burn does the same damage as a 3 second burn because there are still only 3 ticks of burn applied).

The more you stack -condition duration the more obvious how messed up the calculations on it become.

Seriously… the eng trait is the LEAST of the problems for conditions in WvW right now.

I suggest you do your research before you post false information.

-50% is canceled by +50% Game uses additive scaling.

if a condition was to last 4 seconds, and you had +50% condition duration it would be increased to 6 seconds.
If a condition was to last 4 seconds and your opponent had -50% condition duration it would last 2 seconds
If a condition was to last 4 seconds and you had +50% condition duration and your opponent had -50% condition duration it will last 4 seconds.

Please test it out before you come on the forum and make a long winded response with factually incorrect information.

The reason were seeing such huge rating swings is because the previous matchup system screwed the ratings of the servers up that much.

If the ratings were accurate to performance of a server you wouldn’t be seeing 50-100 point swings.

I do think its about time anet lowers the randomizer value. As the weeks go by servers are getting closer and closer in rating, which means they can be matched up with more and more servers.

Sorry, thief wins out raw speed as well.

I’m running centaur runes with Withdraw for perma-swiftness. Add in Heartseeker spam to go even faster (2 Heartseekers = 1 Infiltrator’s Arrow for both distance and initiative cost). Plus Shadowstep.

That’s not including if there are valid targets around, which there almost always are. At that point, add Infiltrator’s Signet and Steal to the list. And if you really want to get sneaky, Shadow Shot can also be used as a cheaper version of Infiltrator’s Arrow. The trick is to dodge roll right after the teleport but before the dagger attack happens. If the dagger hits, you’ll drop to combat speed.

You are confusing evasion with speed.

From point A to point B the warrior is just faster.

Thief is much better because the thief can actually evade enemies with stealth

Warrior with sword/warhorn in one weapon set and Greatsword in the other, and bulls charge utility is the fastest sprint and fastest sustained speed in the game.

Sprint: GS3, Bullscharge, GS5, sword 2 (get reduced cooldowns to go even faster)

Sustain, warhorn 4, signet of rage (permaswift)

Evasion though is different than raw speed. Thieves are the most evasive class and come in second for raw speed (assuming traiting/building for speed).

I don’t have any problem to buy an arena and maintain it, in fact I have one for my guild and friends.
The point is that PvPers can NOT afford it in any way. And it is absurd too being forced to PvE for SPvP purposes.

Laurals → T6 crafting mats
and
Dyes → Sell on TP

and a single person can keep the server running. If you don’t pve/wvw at all you shouldn’t have any problem converting laurals into gold.

Anet will never add a ‘free’ way to add time to servers. They cost money to run.

And drop the “your argument is invalid” meme bullkitten. You are making assumptions about what I’m saying and refuting your own assumptions. Stop doing that.

I’m doing the exact same thing you are doing. A team behind on points on Day 1 will know exactly how far behind they are and can even eyeball how much they are catching up by looking at current PPT. Others have also suggested using the Handicap as a PPT Modifier which would eliminate that concern altogether.

In the meantime, when exactly are you going to explain how someone can look at their Server’s Rating Evolution and know if they can turn it positive before the match ends, or how long it would take, or how it is affected by PPT?

Do you get my point yet? People can look at a Score and current PPT and at least figure out to some extent if they can catch up but the argument you keep using against me is exactly the same when using Rating Evolution only worse!

The other main difference is I don’t mind making the top stacked Servers push hard to see if they can catch up by the end of the week while you don’t seem to mind letting them just blow out weaker Servers before the weekend is over so nobody has to bother playing the rest of the week.

Again, stop making assumptions about my preferences.

I can see PPT modifiers working at least you can tell from day to day how much you need to do to get ahead. And it can affect in account Dolyak and Sentry kills points. Which takes care of the issues I had with the handicap system.

In order for the handicap system to work properly it needs to reflect the rating changes on the other side. If you are winning in score your rating absolutely should go up. The UI should show raw score, handicap score, and server rating. The rating system already handicaps so all you would need to do is take those modifiers and display them ingame and calculate the score off it.

Glicko is complex.

Trying to figure out how much PPT you need to shift your Rating Evolution is complex.

Trying to figure out if it is even possible for you to switch your Evolution from negative to positive at any point in a match is confusing.

The calculation of Handicaps is quite simple by comparision.

Your objections to scoring are still invalid. All Ratings under my Handicap proposal are calculated as they are now. Scoring is no more or less “uneven” than it is right now.

Because you always subtract the Handicap out before any Glicko calculation everything is at is now…

Except scores will be closer at the end of the week and players will see that their Server has a chance to “win” a Match even when facing a Server with much higher Coverage/Rating.

So, I like how you refuted my points, please try again.

No Draygo, I’m saying that if you feel Glicko is valid, then you have to agree that a handicap system as I described is valid.

I explained how the exact same figures used in the Current Glicko formulas would continue to be used, including only the points earned by each Server during the match.

Glicko itself wouldn’t change at all.

So which one of us is being disingenuous?

My goal is to create an environment where even in imbalanced matches all Servers would have something to fight for throughout the week. Where as we approach Reset on Wednesday, Thursday, even Friday the winner of a match can still be in doubt regardless of how imbalanced the match is because of Coverage. Where people can at a glance see how many points their Server needs to win, or how hard they have to fight to hold on.

If you think that Lower Tier Servers keep fighting throughout the week against stacked Servers as hard as they can you are delusional. If you think most players care about or are willing to fight for “a chess rating” while seeing both their overall score and PPT completely lopsided and no easily understood relationship between their actions on the battlefield and the Rating you are wrong.

I’ve been part of 4 consecutive matches in a row where the outcome was never in doubt. Other Servers have faced that for even longer. People like to play when they have a chance to win. A Handicap system will give that to all Servers.

Let me put it another way – I want to see people having fun and fighting in WvW every day of the week. There is a reason why Chess players concede matches without even bothering to finish the game. Let’s please get that mentality out of WvW.

The handicap system you propose is unclear, its hard to tell who is in the lead, if you will make par or not. Using rating which already exists adjusts day by day, you know when your ahead and when you are behind your expected performance. And due to unknowns like yak and sentry kills its hard to be exact with the handicap amount. One server might as a server strategy target sentries way more often than another, making an uneven comparison.

I don’t see an easy method to put a handicap number down that will work properly, be clear to the users if they are on track to making the number they need to win. Rating is clear if your doing better or worse, and is the only number that matters as far as matchmaking is concerned (well almost, deviation, volatility figure in). The score system is a comparative system, not an absolute system.

I’m saying handicap is unneeded complication and users can understand the rating if it was implemented in the game interface instead of hidden behind a leaderboard or third party website.

Rackhir, you are suggesting that you are going to base your handicap system OFF of glicko2, while saying glicko2 is invalid and untrustworthy?

Why bother with the handicap system, its needlessly complex with too much room for error, just put rating into the UI and be done with it. The total amount of points gained per weeks is too variable to be predicted with any sort of accuracy, resulting in a biased system. While rating is based off of comparative points, the total number of points in the match is irrelevant. With the introduction of a handicap system the sum of the total points at the end of the match becomes relevant.

Its needlessly complex, just steer people into playing for rating as chess players play for rating.

All your handicap system is doing is integrating glicko2 rating into the scoreboard with a complex system of guessing what would be a fair amount of handicap. Its unnecessary when you can simply – display the rating and potential rating change.

The second problem with handicaps is that total combined server score isn’t flat week to week. It varies. Cap more sentries, kill more dolyaks and the higher your server score will go. PPT while its a chunk of the total score isn’t all of it. This makes it really hard to make a fair handicap because you don’t know how often these other factors play in.

This is why displaying rating, and rating progress is really the only way to go. There is no additional math involved, just simply displaying what is already there.

Its a server bug mostly.

The server doesn’t send the last movement packet because that client hadn’t moved. So if they die on the edge of a cliff they might be really down on the ground. Except your game client thinks they are down on top of the cliff, so you go to stomp and you are too far away from where they really are.

Unlikely. Despite copper going up in price, it is still traded very heavily. Attempting to manipulate copper will result in a large loss of money. You can make long term trades on the trend however but a direct flip trade is too risky.

hmm interesting I only knew or heard about Anet hiring, not people leaving. Wonder what happened. Anyone have news links on this because I check three major gaming news sites daily and never heard a thing the entire 10 months? My other question would be who exactly was it that left or was fired (if anyone was fired) and were they from the original team that spoke to people in the pre-launch interviews and/or the manifesto?

A couple developers have left on their own, basically they get offered a better job at another company so they take it. Like would you stay a jr. concept artist at arenanet or take the senior level position at another company for a decent bump in pay.

Over 5 years time this sort of thing can happen several times. I know a few of the Anet staff that have left over the years and the ones that I know left have gotten positions in other companies. In sort, they weren’t fired or laid off but took a reasonable offer for career advancement.

I also know arenanets total staff number has grown – and is still growing.

If this was true, which I think it is not. This would be the stupiest thing Anet could ever do:

“Torment: Added a new Condition called Torment. This does damage every second (75% of a bleed), and double damage to foes that are moving(150% of a bleed). Stacks intensity”

This will only punish the small organized groups in WvW because they relay on movement, were blobs can simply stand still.

Lets just pray this thing will never come out.

That isn’t that much additional damage. And considering necromancers will be the main source of it – it isn’t that much to worry about. Remember mesmers must use scepters, thieves can bring if they use skale venom – but as a condition damage dependant condition you wont have to worry about it from power thieves, and perma-stealth thieves do not use skale venom.
