Do you regret pre-purchasing HoT?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

EdgarMTanaka.7291

I could have spent the money to buy me two new movies and I could enjoy them for 3 hours. Now I bought myself GW2: HoT a few months ago and I got the chance to beta test HoT for 3 whole weekends and I have now played GW2 for two weeks and I am still loving it.

My answer is pretty clear. I don’t regret it at all.

Dont regret HoT. Kind of regret taking the ultimate edition. (I now have a character slot unused…) and nothing in the gemstore I would consider buying (aside from a bank tab).

I’m disappointed in a few things though.
- Lack of new armours
- Laggy gameplay in HoT maps
- Short story

Other than that I’m enjoying it a lot. I like the new maps, the Meta Events taking place and the gliding is very nice and natural feeling.
I’m sort of betting on the future releases they plan, and hopefully adress the shortcomings.

If A-net had waited just 2 monts for release they could have release a much more finished product. Shame…

Hmm…

A. Well yes it isn’t like many other MMO’s where new armors is a must becouse there is new armor levels… So yes it actualloy lacks alot of cosmetics. But look at point C.

B. I still havent had any laggy experience except for when I enter Tarir for the first time in the story instance. I don’t understand why some have lag and some dont (assuming they have good enough computers), try the new 64-bit Beta version of GW2?

C. I havent played through the whole story yet as I am taking it very easy. But remember that point A and C is something that will come with the LS too, you didn’t just pay for what you got with HoT, you paid to continue play the LS that will give us raids, more story, Outfits, armors and probably even more masteries and even Elite specializations. I doubt F2P and Core GW2 players will be able to do the LS from now.

GW2 the best PC MMO of the last 4 years.

GW2 has it’s niche.
I started playing about two/three months ago, something like that. My first impression was it felt like a single player RGP adventure that had been converted into an MMO. I was also amazed by how fast you got to cap, certainly the fastest cap I have played up until now. Had HoT not come out, I would have left pretty quick. Not enough progression for me.

Some of you refer to it as a game for casuals. I would say that’s it’s niche. For people like me who require more solid progression and more depth, it will never be top of the pops, but good it is.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

Many play games for different types of reasons… I have noticed that many who leaves the game very early and who grinds the game to death has another view of what makes a game entertaining. I have noticed that many players in MMO’s are just after a few special typhical things for the usuall MMO’s and that is; Max level, end game gear and end game content. I have spoken to many friends and community friends who have left GW2 and there is nothing I can say to get them back to play GW2. They all think that GW2 lacks content and that it gets booring as soon as they have gotten what they had their eyes on, some left after they got level 80, some left after they crafted or bought their Legendary of choice and some left becouse they did all dungeons, fractals and Story. What they all have in common is that they all rushed through the content as fast as possible to get what they wanted, no one stayed in the game for more than 3 mounths, they didn’t enjoy it they did what they had to do.

When I play GW2 I always play it to enjoy it, I do dungeons with my guild and friends when they want to, I play PvP when I feel like it, I do Guild missions with my guild, I log in just to talk with my Guild and friends, I do the story with my alts together with my Guild and friends, On my alts I explore the world wih my Guild and friends and I enjoy every bits of GW2 (Very little WvW actually) with my Guild and friends. I love the LS as it even gives me story to play almost every two weeks ( I can’t wait for next LS ).

I may have not played GW2 as much if it where not for my Guild and friends but there is so much to do in GW2 that you can enjoy so it has kept me online almost everyday since the game released. I played Lotro before this and I was almost as hooked in that as I was in GW2 but… GW2 offers what Lotro gave and so much more for me.

Oh and should I add that I have played around 4-6 Hours a day since expac released and I havent farmed or havent been standing still and I still havent compleated the story yet.

I am an oddball but I play to enjoy not to be the best of first one to show of the new fluff.

I agree with OP the fullest. And from every MMO I have played and forums I have read I always read that MMO-X, X and X will be the downfall of this MMO… We are talking Guild Wars now and it survived, SWtor, Wildstar, EsO and a number of expansions to different MMO’s that has been said to be the downfall for GW2.

One more thing to keep in mind is that GW2 is a game that once bought you will always be able to play it. I have have a few guildmates who rarely plays but they are very happy to pay money for gems to buy fluff.

Sorry but your credability just went down the drain.

First you claim that you are a long time GW2 fan but then I understand that you havent played it for a while.
Then most of your claims on whats bad in the expansion is actually wrong and I can’t realy say that is a way of opinion becouse you are wrong.
You also don’t know the names of the new stuff like new Mysteries and Elite Skills… Well yea there are new elite skills but what you meant was Elite Specialization.

If you where a GW2 fan I would assume you would have read a little more about what the expansion has to offer.

Also why would Anet listen to someone who havent played the game for a while and havent tried the Expansion or better yet read enough about the expansion. I am not saying this to be mean but I am afraid that you are just making a fool out of yourself.

I know how to fix it… Report it! Accidents happens, not every employee at Anet has worked there since GW1.

Soo, is there some magic place i don’t know about – where you can store additional equipment?
I mean, my inventory is always 75% full of crap and alternate equipment.

I admit, i am quite new to this game, and don’t have any good equipment – but is there any tisp to manage inventory better?

I dunno what you know or dont know.

- There is a place called a Bank (Get more slots with Gems).
- Get 18 slots bags if you have a hard time getting 20 slot bags or cant afford them.
- Don’t carry more than one extra set of gear on you, I doubt you have to swich that often.
- Have salvage kits with you all the time.
- At the top right end of your invetory there is a cog that you can click and deposit all crafting mats to your deposit wich you then can reach from bank.
- Don’t open loot bags until you are done with a zone.
- Don’t klick bouncy chest in the right corner until you are leaving that zone.

It is funny that some complains about the HoT maps when OP actually complained about Central Tyria …

In my opinion HoT maps are no JP at all compaired to an easy JP, sure there are ledges and places where flying is a must but it is not very hard. But sure we all likes different things, I myself like platform games to a certain degree and GW2 has just that perfect mix, it is not to hard and not to easy and at some points you not only have to run and 111111 but you have to use your brain now and then.

Just wait, I expect raids will require participants to have most HoT specific MRs at max.

ie. ley line gliding.

Also expect raid leaders to only invite people who have combat boosters and revive orbs…fun (and expensive) times ahead!

I have a commander tag…

What I have understand from Anet devs is that Raids is no PuG content.

The only request I will have is that they have joined my Guild, behave and that they are prepared to change builds to adept to the content. I do not care for 5-10% more stats or doing raids in 10min or having best boosts. As long as we are having fun while trying I am all for it. The more we try the better we get.

Isn’t this alittle of topic? Anyhow…

I have never fealt that GW2 has been grindy atleast never as grindy as other MMOrpgs. But with HoT Guild Halls and Scribing is totally flunked, it is a massive grind and for small, medium Guilds and Guilds with low ammount of Donators this is totally wrong from what I remember the devs promiced us in the stream about Guild Halls. In one Guild I have on my Guild list only one player has been able to buy his guild up to level 12 and will continue to do so becouse the only thing gating him is aetherium. He has more than 2500g and more comming from TP. It’s really sad that my Guild will have to go out to farm for coarse sand 24/7 in SW and Dry Top or farm gold to buy it… Never did I think that this would happen in GW2.

A Legendary is just fluff with an extra small bonus, not needed, Masteries is something you will get rather fast by just playing, Elite spec with the lowered ammount (250) is now almost handed to you and other fluff is just fluff it is nothing that makes you better. But Guild Halls gives you discounts, exp buffs, banners, more content like the Guild Arena and more but this is locked behind a massive farming for some Guilds.

From Guild Leader to Guild Beggar in HoT flat

EdgarMTanaka.7291

Also, i was wondering… I see some people saying guild hall progression should be based on a guilds size, as in how many members it has. So that smaller guilds need less materials to build upgrades.

Wouldn’t that mean that guilds would be able to ‘cheat’ easily? Like telling everyone to leave (perhaps to a temporary alt guild), leaving about 10-20 players. Capture the hall, build the upgrades letting people donate stuff trough guild banks and mail. Inviting someone who has account bound stuff to donate to the guild temporary ..

And when the progression is far enough just invite everyone back bringing the total member count back to, for example, 400?

Yes, they theoretically could, but they would still be gated by favour and aetherium generation (which, by the way, was introduced with the specific goal to slow down guild advancement rate). No guild will willingly downgrade their member count for months.

So, no cheating really. Which is besides the point. Anet doesn’t care about “no cheating” or the prices being reasonable – they just want it to be a huge gold and materials sink. And they seem to think it should be fun for players… for some reason.

Hmm… Now when you mention this… I think I remember someone at Anet say that Aetherium would be the thing that would slow down Bigger guilds so smaller Guilds would be able to keep up? Something like that… Well Aetherium is no problem since it will be full long before a small Guild has even got enough mats for one thing to build.

I havent read all or even much… I am going to say… I heartly agree with alot of you.

Scribing is supposed to be a Guild Crafting thing… But this is insane, the ammount of coarse sand needed for both Scribing and Guild Hall is horrible, even I who do not like farming and grinding have started grinding sand from Dust monsters in Dry Top… I who have supported Anet that GW2 isn’t about Grinding… Most of the stuff you can get by just playing the game… Well Coarse sand and Flax and other materials that requires such a redicolus number to even be able to craft a single component wich you need alot of too to even be able to craft that desired item, well the amount needed is so high that if you are supposed to be able to enjoy the content of the game I have to farm! I rather grind gold to buy Legendaries for crying out loud. Anet I am sorry but you are turning this wonderfull game to a game I left a little over 3 years ago.

I am also a Guild Leader… My problem is not that it is too hard to get to where we where before the update… In my Guild the problem is to get most of the members to understand why and how to donate. At the moment I have needed to make a shoutout every day since we got a guild hall to make all members understand why we need to work together with our guild. Some players doesn’t even know how to go to our Guild Hall O_o I mean four players and me in my guild managed by our selfes to build up to Workshop as soon as we could with aetherium. We are soon 100 members in my guild and I think we are 7 members who have made donations atleast once in our guild. …

I think that a Donations tab in the Guild Menu and a quick and easy tutorial would help somewhat.

I dunno, maby most people just want to play and don’t bother helping their Guild… Or they rather represent a larger guild and helps that instead. I dunno.

There are players here who totally hate what GW2 has become or was and they will still post here becouse they can, they themselfs logs in to the forums to agree with complaints, to bash on compliment or give new or returning bad information.

And then there are those like me who just can’t stop playing the and really like every part of it and almost doesn’t have any negative to say.

And ofcourse we have everyone in between… Now where do you stand? None of us can tell you that as you allready own the game do install it and try it out, it won’t cost anything.

Krytan Region Track
Shiverpeaks Region Track
Ascalonian Region Track
Maguuma Jungle Region Track
Ruins of Orr Region Track
Maguuma Wastes Region Track

Covers mouth daintily… You can get all those resources too, and then some, via trade as well! And following that, the process of levelling up the new crafting professions for those much-wanted… Smiiiirks… decorations.

I think there is a few stuff they can’t get… Like shovels for example… Not sure though.

Ofcourse they help you as much as you can, if you want a refund then they give you an option to refund. Even if it’s not your first option they give you the option, as comes to all crashes in game they are doing everything they can and more so they can not give you any more answers to that problem or just push a button so that you no longer have any crashes.

I dunno what the problems is but obviusly not everyone has the same problem, sometimes people crash becouse their own network is bad and just becouse there have been many reports off the game crashing players emedietly blame Anet. When I have repeated crashed I first start to look for problems in my own network. Last time I had repeated crashes a few times a week I found out that it was my old router who died little enough to kill GW2 but still able to give me connection to surf. A few month back I got myself a new router and I havent had a crash util I crashed once for four days ago.

Personally I dislike CoF farming but I do not dislike those who farm CoF. I warned people about possible banning before I noticed the message on Twitter.

Anyway, a Guilde of mine has been CoF farming for two mornings and he allready have around 40 Tyrian Masteries… I think it takes alot less than 7 hours.
I think allowing this is so stupid as it is rather close to an exploit and this is just a bad way to warn people about exploiting. If now Anet thought that their content where so bad that they would have people farm masteries in one single instanced map why not just give every player who have the title ‘been there done that’ an auto max mastery boost.

I have been thinking about a thing now after the expac released an prices for new stuff and some other stuff started to be high.

If gold is easy to earn then prices on TP will probably increase, if gold is hard to earn Prices will lower. Or a really big player base is throwing in lots of real money for Gems to get gold… But then Gems would pretty cheap for gold then? anyway… I think that when the amount of money but in to the game increases so will the prices becouse more players will afford the high prices on TP but let’s say they nerf gold everywere… Then almost no one will buy the stuff and some or maby lots of sellers will rather put the stuff on TP for a lower price to be sure that people buy their stuff. Then sellers that a set that they will get their 300000000g worth object will end up wait a year until they give up and finally sell it for the “new” market value.

Find another place to farm your gold, if Dungeons was the best place then I bet the value of stuff you need gold for will go down.

Now I am a player who loathe farming and grinding so I am not affected by this, but it would be nice if market value actually lowered to a level so that players who enjoy every part of the game can afford the real expesive stuff.

That’s what I beleave.

you have to be level10 because they don’t want a free to play player who would 1. troll players 2. don’t even know there skills and jump in pvp right away

How can you possible know that? Honestly, F2P is Anet’s future, one they deem worth driving Veterans away for. They are gambling that F2P will buy Hot in greater numbers than the vets walking away from a 180 degree turn in design philosophy.

Yes, because the 200 vets in my guild didn’t all buy HoT. lol What an imagination.

You forgot to add “and everyone I talk to” Kudos for remembering the snide comment at the end though. I see you haven’t slipped much, Vain.

I really really hope it isn’t stalking time again.

I agree with OP that this indeed bad. Why have a R10 requirement for “normal” gamemodes but Stroghold wich requires more knowladge about the game doesn’t? No this is just bad. As long as it is unranked it shouldn’t matter if F2P goes in there… Still the MMR should make it so veterans don’t play against new players… Right?

Anyway about the quote wich is about another topic I am just going to say this ‘In game the tone is alot different than on the forums, there are alot of veterans who have bought HoT and are realy happy with the experience. Just as you claim Vayne and me can’t say that alot veteran buys HoT you can’t say that alot veterans has been driven away. Why did Anet even bother to do lvl 80 content if they didn’t care about veterans?

precursor collection is a ripoff

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: EdgarMTanaka.7291

EdgarMTanaka.7291

let me tell you what I think.

The game has been live for about 4 days or something and alot of players has just started playing with this collection. The prices on the TP is at the moment are calibrated after GW2 Core game and the new stuff on TP is high but is descending fast. As I made a remark about in an identical post I said that Flax seeds and sand is something almost all guilds will need as they need it to build the tavern, when I first looked on the prices for the the cost was about 40s each, next day they cost 30s each and last I looked they did cost almost 20s each. For each day the economy will even out to tell us the “true” price of everything.

Now for Precursor crafting, At the moment it is cheaper to buy them directly from TP but soon players will see this and know that they actually can sell them at a higher price or the mats to craft them will be lower becouse more players rather sell mats instead of crafting. Becouse it is we the players who decides how much stuff will cost on TP. I am not saying that this will happen, I am not good at stuff like this at all but I can for sure figure out that it needs to take more than four days for the prices to get a “true” value in a “new” game.

Also there is so much new stuff to craft and Guild Halls require alot of crafting mats and I bet alot of guilds are throwing lots of stuff in them at the moment so for a while alot of TP stuff will get a higher demand.

I am pretty sure Anet won’t do anything about this until they know for sure that something is off, but now it is to early to tell.

(This is purely what I beleave)

Edit:
Oh and also this is a wonderfull thing for players like me, I don’t like to buy things on TP, I am against precursors and Legendaries even being tradable. I have played GW2 almost constantly for over 3 years and I haver ever got a precursor nor have I tried to play in mystic toilet iether.

I on the other hand have(had)* som much crafting mats from playing so I could get me a good way on the precursor crafting. Now I don’t like the old precursors so I wont bother anyway but others like me might like them and can get them without spending a dime on TP and/or pray to the RNG gods.
(Why I said ‘had’ is becouse I used alot of crafting mats on our Guild Hall)

I swung it again, that’s just great. We just don’t want players to grind in GW2, no one enjoys that, no one finds it fun…” – Just remember what you told us before we began this journey Colin.

This is rather funny to read becouse when/if they give everyone Max masteries and Max Elite spec by just logging in the game people will start to complain that there are not enough content in the game and start farming events on the new maps to earn gold to buy the precursor crafting mats on TP and then they will start to complain that GW2 is just about farming and Grinding and put that Quote on the forums again. It’s a never ending story. What’s funny is that most of the posts I have made is about how I havent farmed or grinded much in GW2 as I loathe that, except for tokens in dungeons and some LS stuff from season 1, I have never fealt that I have been forced to grind for something. Most of the stuff in the game comes to me by just playing it and it’s content.

I agree that Elite specs are a little too expensive and that timers on HP Challanges is Dumb but I still havent fealt forced to farm anything. I can enjoy the content as my scrapper actually, I don’t need 100% scrapper to enjoy it and I actually getting the Progression feeling everytime I unlock a new part for my scrapper. It is rather nice.

It hasn’t even been a week, prices havent had the chance to set (look at sand and Flax seeds wich you need lots of for Guild Tavern, they cost 37s each and it is a common crafting mat that you can find all over the new maps and silverwastes, it is high becouse almost every guild is building taverns and upgrading) and as others have said instead of RNG you can now get your precoursor by just playing the game and see how far you have progressed. Anet didn’t say you must BUY the crafting mats on TP did they?

I personally think that you shouldn’t have tied down TRAITS and SKILLS in one single line. I think the point requirement is fine, but it feels so deep getting these traits and skills because they’re in one single route. The old system did this, and it’s perfectly fine!

This I do agree with!

I was suprised to see that they went from an awesome system where I could choose what to aim for (Skills or traits) and now they slapped them all togheter. Before release I defended this becouse I beleaved that there would be like 150HP for skills, 150 HP for Traits and 100HP for unlocking weapon and armor skins (I like the Achievement part too though). I was a little bummed out to notice that this wasn’t the case but I can live with it. But as I said before I do hope for a little “fix” to this problem.

The thing is this, GW2 may not be grindy but alot of players really really want Elite Spec’s and that is why they bought HoT. They wanted to experience the world with their new spec as if it where a new class and I can understand this but it is not a new class it is a new Level Cap increase but in a better way. Some starts to Grind EOTM to get the full Elite Spec so they can play with it on the new maps and some just thinks that farming HP’s in EOTM is faster and more entertaining then playing the usuall PvE content (Now I am not saying anything about those who actually plays WvW for WvW enjoyment, those just as PvE’ers will get their HP while enjoying the game).

GW2: HoT is no more farm/grind than GW2 Core is and I play and enjoy the PvE content together with my guild and we havent even gone through Verdant Brink yet and I already have all needed Masteries to get to all HP’s in VB, I havent farmed or Grinded I have just explored the maps and done Event’s and followed the event chains. I use boosters though becouse I have over 80 of them in my bank and finnaly I have a use for them. I am playing a Scrapper at 65.5% and it is a blast.

I hope something will be done about this but I hope not to much becouse I like to progress my scrapper and not just unlock it all in one go.

It’s sad to see so many posts accusing devs for stuff that aint true when they openly writes in this post.

First alot are complaining about HP and Elite Specialization and now Devs go out saying we will se if there something we can do to make HoT enjoyable for you too. I know there is a lot of information to look at and alot of work that will need to be done if they decides to change something. It is not an easy part. I bet dome Dev’s are realy sorry that so many people hate what they themself though was a good idea. Now they are going to have a look at this problem to make the players happy and some players are still bashing on the devs and mocks them. It is really sad to see.

I am not a fan of the ammount of HP needed even though we get 10 HP for some Challanges but the rest of the game is fantasic and I play a 67.5% Leveled scrapper and the experience is wonderfull.

How would you rate the HoT Fun Factor?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: EdgarMTanaka.7291

EdgarMTanaka.7291

9/10

- The ammount HP needed to get max Elite spec is a little too much.
- Adventures are locked behind events.
- Boss timers on HP challanges.

+ We claim our Guild Hall yesterday and it was one of my best MMO gaming experiences ever.
+ Elite spec’s are awesome.
+ Revenant is realy well done.
+ All Guild Features is so Awesome especially the new guild combined chat.
+ Story is perfect and has the GW1 feeling to it, makes me almost cry of joy.
+ I love the new maps with so many secret stuff everywhere and well you always find something new.
+ Adventures is a neat idea, havent had the chance to try them so much due to locked behind events.
+ Difficulty, awesome to finally have a challange treversing the story and just not plow through the game.
+ New PvP reward tracks are interesting.
+ Havent played on release but in beta but Stronghold is an interesting game mode.
+ New statcombos, sigils and runes to work for.
+ Interesting collections and Achievements.
+ Massive replayability.

This expansion is the best expansion I have ever played, it may or may not have more content than another game but the content is not just there to plow through in a week and then I can play another game, HoT will probably have me hooked for another 3 years.

It’s only been 3 days. If you haven’t unlocked all the masteries it’s not the end the world. Just play the game guys. You can finish it in a couple of months and that’s the idea. And yes some people have finished unlocked all core masteries and most of HoT masteries.

Thank you ANet for not making contents that can be done in one day (for the vast majority of the players).

It’s a game.

I’m plenty kitten ed tough. I survived a tornado that half-destroyed a town I lived in, and walked two miles on a broken leg once. I game with only one working hand. I run my own successful business for challenge. I raised three kids.

I play games for FUN. HoT is not fun.

A sad story indeed, but every game can not be fun for everyone no matter how much endavors you have been put through.

Core game is free, 50$ – cost of expansion WITH core game as present.

They said their reason for charging $50 was because it also included the core game, though. The only other recent MMO I know of that charged $50 for an expansion was WoW, and there were a lot of complaints over the price as it was pretty high compared to other MMO expansion prices.

I’m just confused if their reason for charging so much is because it includes the base game, why not make a cheaper option for people who already own the base game then?

What? When and where did your hear/read that!? I may be wrong but all statements about this I have seen is that Core game was free and $50 is the price tag with or without core game. Veterans like me who pre-purchased HoT got a extra characters slot becouse we allready owned core game, this wasn’t planned at start but got changed after alot of complaints about it on forums.

Can’t agree to the fullest…. But that is becouse I havent experienced some of the parts you mentioned

But the things I have played at the moment has given me the best Expansion experience ever! I love how there ara almost events everywhere and that the enemies don’t just die in two seconds (Except when I play my Zerker guardian), gliding is awesome and the wing skin addition is really cool. I know they cant logicly be used to fly but it would be nice to have Holo wings, shatter wings and other wings as glider skins too
I beleave I am going to be able to play this game for another 3 years! Ty Anet for the most awesome experience ever!

There is only one thing I want to complain about though… I was going to get myself a Hero Point in the beginning and there was this Morfrem fight I had to do and the boss was a champion and a little tricky but I could handle him but it was impossible to beat it alone before the timer run out. That made me pretty sad… But hey, next time when I have more time I am going to wait for more players to come or have some friends help me. But what I mean is that I think that difficulty should not be a timer.

No chance for Future Elite Specs during HoT

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: EdgarMTanaka.7291

EdgarMTanaka.7291

Hero points are contained in open world maps.

Living story updates contain new maps.

Living story will continue after HoT launch.

Anet would have to add at least 2 new maps that are of the size of HoT maps to make it possible to get a new elite spec. Even then you would have to get almost every hero challenge in the game to do so. I don’t think that something like this is very likely, though it is technically possible.

Well you forget that the intent is not to be able to max out the elite spec in one go, so it is fully possible that they wont introduce a new Elite Specialization until you have enough HP to get the first step. While continuing in the LS the new Elites are getting revealed more and more, I like the sound of that and I hope thats how it will work. They have themselfes stated that this new Specialization system is designed so they can easier build more stuff to it. Am I wrong?

Anyone not buying HoT and still playing ?

EdgarMTanaka.7291

So stupid thread…

If you don’t wanna buy GW2 HoT then don’t. If you beleave it has less content than it is worth so be it… I am pretty sure we “AnetDrones” “White Knights” “Fanbois” can say anything, they have allready made up their minds so it is no use. Just look at some recent posters who can’t even seem to count up all the content with GW2 just to make another game look better. I am LMAO at this thread but it so sad that there are so many people trying to get people to change their minds. These people who are set to not buy GW2 (Who wrote here) are what, around 10 of them?

I am going to enjoy GW2 as I have for over 3 years, I will maby see you in HoT soon.

By the same logic, posts that praise HOT are also stupid. If you like it, just buy it and play. Why making a post?

People criticize HOT because they care about GW2 and hope it will improve. The alternative is to stop caring about it at all.

Oh my… Good sir or miss… I think you missunderstood the point of my post, I may have been unclear. The post was not directed only to you it was to all of you I was saying ’Don’t like it, don’t buy it’ and I also said ’don’t try to make them change their minds becouse they have allready decided’ and with that said this post is meant for those who are not buying HoT but are still playing it. I notice alot of people trying to change peoples minds and I also see people who (atleast say) doesn’t play GW2 anymore.

Now I do understand many posts here where people rather like to wait and see than buying something they are not sure about. I respect that.
But there are posts here that are just spitting on HoT and are just making reasons to never buy it and not even concider it. Maby they are still playing GW2 but I do doubt that.

Since raising the level cap in GW2 wouldn’t make any sense like in other MMOs xpacs, Anet have decided to add new specs that we will be able to unlock ( level up) with HP.

Just consider HP as the new XP and elite spec the new level cap.

Interesting way to look at it Nausicca! There is indeed a striking resemblance between this and traditional level cap increases. Do you evaluate it possitively because of this or is this rather a criticism for pushing a “hidden level cap” on the players?

Your quote is what I was trying to say and a little more.

It is not a hidden level cap as a Level cap prevents you from going forward in the game. Masteries would more be like a Hidden level cap in that case but not Hero Points.
There doesn’t have to be some kind of pregression in a game but it is pretty important to have progression in a game (atleast an MMO) to keep players playing the game. I am pretty happy that I have stuff to do in the game than just play through the story and then I am done.

When will condition damage be addressed?

As other have said, I agree about burning but I have never seen confusion being any problem… Atleast not the ticks, and that is what you want removed. Problem with some condi classes is that they can aply conditions after conditions and some classes or builds cant cleanse let’s say guardians burn all the time. Some classes can kill you in less than two condition ticks if you are out of condition cleanses, that is a little too fast for my taste. Same goes for Warriors Rampage and Mesmers Power builds who can kill you in even less than a second if you are not ready for it.

It’s the essential truth of all MMOs.
You work your way through the content to earn gear upgrades that would have been really handy during that content.

Yea, latest MMO I played before GW2 was LoTRO and for every expansion they increased the level cap and for every or every two levels you earned a skill or an upgrade to a skill. I was forced to do the Quest chains of booring quests that was about going a doing the dishes for people and picking up garbage that someone had thrown. If I didn’t do that and just went ahead I would have iether have to hard enemies to fight or no quests to do becouse I had to finnish the previous quests to unlock them. By the time I was at the end of the game I was almost max level and had earned my last skill.

In GW2 I have quite alot of choises of what I want to do and how I am going to do it, yes ofc I have to find hero points or do WvW to buy them. Also the game does not end when you have come to the “finnish line” no, a few weeks more and then there will be more content and the living story continues with more Raid wings and more story and maby even more maps to play your Elite specialication. Now if you hate it so much then wait and play when LS has worked it’s way a little longer and you have even more Specializations to work for. The best thing with GW2 compaired with other MMO’s is that the new content does not make the old content absolete… Not yet atleast.

And about the Anetdrones comments, it is so stupid. Accept that you are just on another side of the coin than us. We think it is a good thing and we beleave that it is not as bad as you beleave it to be. None of us has facts on exactly how it is so you beleave it is going to be BAD and we beleave it is going to be OK. Let’s complain if we have to when we have the facts straight.

Not that anyone care I guess but this is what I started doing and what I have done now to prepare for HoT.

First I wanted a specific character for Daredevil, Reaper and Druid so I made 3 new characters. I started leveling them since I do not like to level with tomes. Yesterday I just figured out that it is even better if I actually level up my 3 new characters with tomes so that I will get experience for my masteries in Tyria while doing world compleation with them.

You play the game just the way you want, but if you want Tyria Masteries you need to earn experience in iether Tyria Open World or ?Dungeons?. As it comes to me I don’t do dungeons that much but I do roam the world with my friends so I rather earn Experience for my masteries while I get the Hero Points I need. Instead of having it all (Except masteries) and than just farm or Grind one single place or dungeon only to earn masteries.

Veteran MMO Players: A Few Questions

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: EdgarMTanaka.7291

EdgarMTanaka.7291

…Snip…

Well the funny thing is that you are taking everything from WoW wich is well… WoW.

Why I call myself a Veteran.
Started my MMO days with Ultima Online for a few months then went to WoW later and played that for a year, after that I was hopping around many MMO’s like SWG, RuneScape, Vanguard, EQII, CoH/V, Flyff, ROSE Online, GW1 and more. Latest MMOrpg before GW2 I played was LoTRO and I played it for almost seven years after this my girlfriend got me GW2 as a birthdaygift so we started playing it together on the 3days heastart and been playing it since then but I have tried other MMO’s after that but I feel that I can’t go back to the usuall MMOrpg’s anymore but anyway after GW2 I have also played SwtoR, ESO, Champions online(off and on for two years), STO, Defiance(Not realy the usuall RPG but it has it’s elements), Scarlet Blade and Trove. Even though I played all those MMO’s after GW2 I have still played GW2 almost everyday since it release.

Q: Who would really like to see camping come back as part of the game? Actually going some place, taking a seat with some friends, and getting to work enjoying the challenge of this particular set of creatures?

A: I can’t answer to who would but I can say that I wouldn’t like that. Challangeing Dungeons, Events and story instances yes but not just a single place with the same sort of enemies that would end up in some silly farm.

Q: What’s missing from the community experience for you?

A: Can’t think of anything just now, as a community friendly game as GW2 is it has it all. The only game that gave me some kind of special feelings was LoTRO as it was/is based on LoTR and it is cool to be able to visit know places from the books. But GW2 has it too as it is nice to see places you remember from GW1 and stuff. GW2 also has a lot of useless but cool secret places to discover for your own enyojment but other MMO’s usually don’t have to many of these (I guess I don’t really understand the question).

Q: What giant vacuums have you come across in this game that you’ve not found in other games?

A: Groupwise content I havent fealt the absence of it, I mostly play together with friends and we always find stuff to do together. Even if the content is managable with one player doesn’t mean we can’t enjoy it as a team. There are a few spots in the game where playing in a team has been a hinderence instead of a good experience for example with some Hearts (Tasks) where you have to collect stuff and it disupears when another player picks it up and you have to wait for respawn. But you said not found in other games, so I can’t think of any (feels like I didn’t understand this question iether).

Q: What aspects of this game really shine for you and make it worth playing?

A: Oh there is so many! I will make a list of stuff.

- No vertical progression.
- Awesome Dev team. Friendly, funny, Human, honest and more (I know many don’t agree but this is my opinion).
- easy access to PvP, WvW.
- PvP where player skill is the base factor and not the gear.
- No quests.
- Very few requirements to farm, I can just play the game wherever I want and finally get most of the stuff in the end.
- No requirements to grind gear to enjoy the story and level up to 80.
- Jumping Puzzles and Mini Dungeons hidden all around the world.
- Guild Missions.
- Waypoints instead of pocketmounts.
- Megaservers.
- Wardrobe system (This is rather awesome).
- No full requirement for a trinity team.
- Fast spaced combat system, no rooted when casting every skill.

There is more but those are the ones I could think of right now.

So anyway to enable mouse movement with the “action” camera? Mouse targeting is pointless if you can’t even move.

no you wont be able to, but thats the whole point of this, getting a action based combat you will need to use WASD to play it

Action camera mode will get you slaughtered in WvW and Pvp… only benefits one game mode and even that is situational and that is open world pve… just sayin…

I disagree, ever fought an asura minion nekro for example? try “tabing” to target him or try to click on him just to target him, its not always that easy.
With Action mode you only need to SEE him, and then just point and shoot to hit him.

many people might not realize this yet.. but this will change the game and how it will play completly.

I will even try out granade engi for the first time because I am not forced to constanly press 1111 while targeting at the same time

The problems with WASD are many:

1.You can only move in big circles instead of smaller ones.
2.mouse gives much faster turning.
3.Mouse turning enables far more flexible and intuitive use of keys. The QWERTASDFGHZXCVB keys are within easy convenient distance of homerow, so if you need to use a skill you can press one of these buttons. I bind A to autoattack.
4.WASD is only limited by the four cardinal directions. Even a very old-school console controller does better than that:

http://videogamecritic.com/images/systems/gencontroller.jpg

Action combat like what Phantasy Star Online 2 has can only really work with a controller, and even that has inferior movement to a mouse where movement flexibility is maximized.

many people might not realize this yet.. but this will change the game and how it will play completely.

It won’t be the game I paid for and if I wanted that crap I’d play Tera instead.

Have you even watched the twitch about this? Sounds like you don’t know what you are talking about or I am totally misunderstanding you.

With this Action camera you will attack at the direction of your crossair and the camera and thus the crossair is moved with your mouse as if you where keeping left mousebutton pressed down (Yes, Left mouse as your character won’t turn as the camera turn). Instead of moving camera on Left and Right mouse buttons you now use your AA with left mouse and you set target with right mouse button.

Responses will be alot better with the combat camera so I will probably use it, though I am not used to it so it will be some time for me to adapt.

This is a very neat feature and the best thing about it is that you don’t have to use it. So don’t if you don’t like it.

B&S seems to be more like a fighting game with RPG elements where PvP are mostly 1vs1 but you can have a 3vs3 or openworld PvP. The graphics is wierd, girls look like porslin dolls or perfect bodies with lube all over and the enviroment looks is very N64 ish with open landscapes and fixed textures.

I can sit here and type up a long winded reply about how wrong your list is, but Nocta hit the nail on the head. Most of the things your complaining about are results of L2P issues.

Seems like you still do not understand what OP was trying to say. This isn’t about L2P it is about diversity when you solo join matches in Unranked och Ranked. That is how I understand it. Also your post is very uncunstructive as you say how wrong OP is but you won’t prove OP wrong.

I agree with OP, I myself though am not playing anything meta becouse I dislike the current one and it is booring. I do OK with what I play.
