Using gold for lodestones just seems very wrong to me. I should be able to get them as drops. But as I don’t get them (I’ve had 2! drop in over a year of playing), I’ll use laurels, which are just another form of currency (just like karma, gold and dungeon tokens).
I feel your pain in having to ‘buy’ things instead of ‘farming’ them, but ANet often limits things to ONLY being bought with Laurels which are time gated where as gold is NOT so some day you may regret burning Laurels instead of gold.
Also if you look at the TP as just trading it’s not so bad. Sell the rare items you get as drops you don’t want to trade for rare drops that others get.
The Predator rocks on a Norn.
I was told the ‘best’ method of ‘crafting’ precursors in the forge by someone sitting on about 13K gold and produced my first in about 400 attempts. The second took another 500 or so. After another 900+, still NO third precursor so I have pretty much joined ‘Mystic Toilet Anonymous’ while I am still up about 100g. Clearly I am not lucky, but what if I am???
Using Laurels for T6 just seems very wrong to me. To me Laurels should only be spent on things you cannot get any other way. If that list is not interesting today, it may change with a future release so it seems wise to save them. Mine are piling up now that I have decided to stop wasting them on infusions and jewelry hoping that we will be able to craft the infusions and jewelry some time in the not to distant future.
How about if Anet puts a countdown timer on the WvW page showing time until match complete? Same with the daily and monthly achievements.
Personally I liked the 8PM Central Time reset as it gave me time to eat dinner, now I need to eat early.
Since the daylight savings time the daily reset got moved, is this going to affect WvW reset time as well? For how long?
Supposedly this is to limit any one player putting more than their share of load on the server. I have no problem with this. The trouble is if you get the error, it extends the timer even more so if your impatient and click again to soon, you get to wait even longer. THAT is what annoys me so much about this. If they could just let the sale complete but let it take longer, or block your Sell button again UNTIL it’s ‘your turn’, that would be SO much better.
Better yet have a sell at offer queue you can dump your items into so you don’t have to stand around doing all that clicking AND getting penalized for it. Granted you may get far less (or even more) based on the market moving while your sales are going through, but that is a risk I bet many would take.
I would not consider myself a ‘normal’ player, but I started three characters at the same time so I could level six crafting profession with my players and never have to “buy” my gear. This took WAY longer, but I found it a fun challenge as I enjoy crafting which many just find a chore.
My Ranger did Leatherworker and Weaponsmith, my Necro did Tailor and Artificer, and my Engineer did Huntsman and Jeweler. I later had my Warrior do Armorsmith and Cook, which where not really needed by the first three. Cooking should be the last profession you attempt as it is much more difficult than the others.
If leveling your character is the most important, you can forget about crafting, but with the addition of account wide magic find, the crafting ‘leftovers’ can now be salvaged for extra luck so it’s a nice benefit. Be sure to check out a crafting guide if you don’t want to learn the hard way what the most efficient way to level is.
I lose my mouse ALL the time. The fire particle affects make seeing the enemies for targeting or evasion almost impossible. I thought they announced they where toning this down in a previous release, but I see no evidence of this. If it where not for my need for Empreal, I would completely avoid all of the boss battles as they are all long boring graphical overloads. This is on top of the camera issues of course, but that is a whole other topic.
I have no problems with JPs in WvW, but they have no place on the WvW achievements list. They don’t affect WvW score and they only waste population slots so I don’t see how people should be given WvW achievement rewards for completing them.
Stupid question, what do JPs have to do with WvW??? Why are they in the WvW achievement list all? I vote remove the four achievements and lower the total required by 4.
The prices for precursors is completely justified. They are VERY rare and difficult to acquire. You are basically paying someone to hand over something they either got from a really lucky drop or they spent many hours and hundreds of gold fishing out of the mystic toilet.
You don’t have to apologize because search doesn’t work and they seem to have no intention of fixing it any time soon.
The only problem is taking healing spring is suicidal. You cannot heal yourself effectively with that skill on board and you have to stay in the zerg to get healed by others.
Which means all of our infusion slots are empty because there is no other way to get the infusions either. Laurels are becoming a serious drag.
That website advertises at about 15 minute intervals the current profit to be made for all crafted items. Anyone who cares to use it can spot opportunities to craft for profit, and yet they sit open for days. Why? Because there are just not enough players who want to take the time to do it, and there is risk of being undercut on these lower volume items. The question is why are there so many items listed at cost or less? Is every one of those items from people leveling crafting? Seems unlikely. For weapons this is certainly true now, but for armor, doesn’t seem likely. It will be soon, and I will be forced to grind to make money.
Toyota makes money because the some of the parts is not equal to the value of the car. Crafters can make money by filling needs, until those needs go away.
If I told you my markets, how many crafters do you think are going to descend on it and flood them with bargain basement prices? It takes time and effort to find these opportunities, and the reward is PROFIT.
You just proved my point.
Market Efficiency is a real economic term, if you trade in real life, you should know what it means.
When trading in real life I invest in the stock of companies I believe will do well and thus grow my investment, it has nothing to do with market efficiency, I am not ‘gaming’ the market.
I am also not gaming this market. Many people don’t want to craft, they just want to buy the shiny and get back to killing things. I am taking the time to get the materials at a good price for them and craft what they are looking for. That time I spent is paid for by my markup. I prefer doing this than killing things for gold. With the best gear being account bound, crafters have no way of earning their gold this way.
As far as buying shinies with a credit card goes, that is not for me, as I like to earn my shinies, but for the casual player who can only spend a few hours a week, I don’t see why they shouldn’t be able to get the best stats using their wallet. Gear does NOT make the best players, but it does make many players happy so why force a grind on everyone?
The items I crafted are very well known.
What is it then? If its not a secret, you should be able to tell us a few here.
I have a spreadsheet to enter material costs and I monitor sell prices for these items that I supply.
Ok, any game require you to keep a spreadsheet is probably consider more work than play.
But lets be clear, you are not making money by using the in-game crafting mechanism. You are exploiting the market inefficiencies.
I never quite understand why people play a game that way. There are a lot of markets in real life that can make you a lot more money… Stocks, futures, commodity, options. Personally I had enough of that at work.
If I told you my markets, how many crafters do you think are going to descend on it and flood them with bargain basement prices? It takes time and effort to find these opportunities, and the reward is PROFIT.
If it was really work to me then why would I do it? I consider it fun to find an opportunity and make some gold off of it. Running a dungeon over and over again is not fun for me. Crafting is, so why shouldn’t I be able to make some money?
How am I “exploiting market inefficiencies”? There are tons of items for sale, and no one can fill ALL the demand ALL the time, and every crafter gets to set their profit margin when they list an item. More greed == less sales because someone else will do it for less. Striking the right balance is the art form that gets you the most gold per time spent. What truly baffles me is all the people selling things for cost or less. They have put me out of business in many markets.
Speaking of the real world, I actually managed to make more money in the market than I did for my job over the last 12 months, but it wasn’t as fun.
Crafting is/was absolutely profitable. I financed the materials cost plus the precursor of two legendary weapons over two months just by crafting for profit. I am now making about 10% of what I was because everyone is broke. On the items I was crafting I was making about 15-20% profit because people just don’t like to craft. Now everyone has to craft to get the best gear, so no more cash cow for those of us who like to craft.
I would like to know what exactly you did for it to be profitable. Let me guess its a secret.
As I was saying Crafting is profitable only for selected few items that very few people knows about. Once that becomes public knowledge, the same path would be exploit by everyone else and thus become not profitable anymore. You can find these type of profitable exploit without crafting as well.
In general crafting is not profitable for people who plays the game normally.
The items I crafted are very well known. I bought my materials with buy orders and listed the finished products with a markup of about 30% over cost. The first 5% goes to the listing fee, the next 10% goes for the fee on sale. If I had to re-list the item lower do to undercutting, I would lose another 5%. The trick is to watch where demand was greater than supply. I focused on the type of item that was towards the lower end of the demand scale, as the higher volume items had much more competition and undercutting. If a market got to over supplied I would have a clearance sale and move my cash elsewhere.
I play the game very normally. I am not a flipper. I have a spreadsheet to enter material costs and I monitor sell prices for these items that I supply. Since the ascended weapons release, material prices have been crazy, and demand has been low to non-existent. I used to have about 500g worth of product on the market at any given time, and two or three times a day 50g-100g in sales to collect, bid on materials, craft, and list. Now I seldom break 200g in total listings and I will go a day or two with sometimes no sales at all. This latest spike in gossamer should drive prices up and cause some more sales for me when the other crafters are forced to list higher.

Legendary weapons should NOT be tradeable, but the precursors should until they give us a way other than RNG to get them. Account bound ascended items have destroyed the crafting for profit mechanic and thus any hope of getting another precursor or legendary. Spending most of my time farming all the mats for ascended weapons, and soon armor is not fun, but I guess it makes each one I make a bit more valuable to me.
I am not sure why, but I do enjoy crafting, and equipping all of my characters is gonna take a long time. Lots of grind. Grind I don’t like.
I just did the math and with silk at 17 copper it seems to me you will break even if you convert 250 into gossamer, not counting the skill point cost of the philosophers stone.
Does this ruin Legendaries? By it’s description I cannot imagine it would work for Ascended weapons, or if it did it would be pointless.
it works for the skins yes… and afaik you can de-transmute the item for the stats
If you put the Legendary Skin on a white item, you have lost the stats I would believe, not to mention the ability to switch stats. De-transmuting the thing would only give you the white item back and a Legendary skin which seems a huge waste.
Does this ruin Legendaries? By it’s description I cannot imagine it would work for Ascended weapons, or if it did it would be pointless.
I would certainly buy a Soul Bound → Account Bound conversion item if it worked for everything. With all the work for Legendary and Ascended weapons it would be nice to be able to reallocate them, not to mention moving the harvesting tools around occasionally.
So you can use transmutation stones somehow to transfer soul bound weapons/armor from one character to another? What is the process for that?
Is it only for the skin or can a Legendary/Ascended weapon be transferred?
I think this is just an affect of the TP going down.
My level 21 Ele is not getting Empyreal from chests, does anyone know the minimum level for that?
Has happened to me since launch on two different types of mouse. The dragons are the worst. They take up the entire screen and I waste well more than half the battle trying to target the thing. You can only target their hands or head, and keeping them on camera is ridiculously hard. Not being able to zoom far enough out is a related problem. The second biggest issue I have is camera jam. Tight spaces making it impossible to see what your trying to attack because you can’t zoom into a first person shooter view. Surprised they haven’t thrown a bunch of trees and foliage around the dragons to further troll us.
If I put say bleed on swap on my main weapon, and chill on swap on my offhand weapon, will swapping to these weapons trigger both? How about Bleed and Energy where they are not both doing damage?
Search is COMPLETELY BROKEN, guess I will just create duplicate threads since I can’t possibly FIND ANYTHING from the past.
Is this a bug? I crafted some only to discover I cannot sell them.
I am seeing two different numbers now that I look, account bonus at 55% and current bonus on the stats list at 75%.
Also, what about the MF we get in the Achievement chests? Does that become void after we get to 300%? I guess it means I stop salvaging earlier than those without achievement chests. Or that I started higher up the curve so I get less MF gain from loot.
One my my characters has the utility infusion which adds 20% magic find. It’s great for now, but what happens at 300%? Do I need to spend more laurels and replace it?
I am also hoping we don’t need to be using Black Lion Salvage kits and that maybe Mystic Salvage kits will get decent drop rates for Dark Matter and Ectoplasm.
I thought I read crafted exotics will NOT produce dark matter on salvage.
Do you remember where you read that? I figured it’d be all exotics. It’d be really lame if anet didn’t let us get those materials from crafted exotics, and with their rng crap these days, I’m sure it could go either way, really. (Though I am leaning more toward getting the new materials from crafted exotics. I always got plenty of ectos back, though never as many as I put in. lol)
I can’t find where I heard/saw this, but I swear there was something ‘bad’ or limited about crafted exotics versus dropped exotics. I threw some crafted rares in the forge yesterday to get a ‘forged’ exotic to see if that would work instead.
Hopefully once the release is out we will hear some experimentation results.
I thought I read crafted exotics will NOT produce dark matter on salvage.
A side affect of this is that crafting for profit is going to take a huge hit, as those of us who enjoy crafting will no longer have an income stream because everyone who wants an ascended item will now HAVE to craft and therefore no longer buy their exotics or other gear.
The point of Celestial is you git a little bit of a lot of stats. Taking away one of those stats makes Celestial less effective. The other stats should get a small boost to compensate, or some other stat should replace MF.
Stupid question… Why can’t they just give us the experience towards 500 for the recipes we have already unlocked? The materials we already spent on unlocking those recipes will NOT need to be respent. That’s the worst part of leveling your crafting is creating things you don’t need just to level up.
Just great. I stay up until 2AM, get Bloodtide and STILL 12/13. Just kitten wonderful.
This achievement is completely ridiculous. I play at least 30 hours a week, but only two or three hours at a time. People need to sleep, eat, work, etc… It takes over half an hour to complete IF you manage to show up at just the right time AND the correct invasion spawns, AND you get credit for it.
I am completely sick of watching the clock to rush to the computer and check in only to see that it’s still not Bloodtide Coast, the map I THINK I need. I have only seen that map TWICE since the whole thing started. It was the first map I went to the first time I logged in, and of course got the lovely red message that the invasion was not running in this overflow. The only other time I raced in at like 8 minutes after the hour, only to get the same stupid message, even though you are supposed to have 10 minutes to get into the start of the event. It must have started a few minutes early which it does now and then. Just great.
This is supposed to be a game I can sit down an enjoy at my leisure, instead I am setting my alarm, interrupting my life and even my fun in WvW, because I have to hop out to check that it’s still not Bloodtide. Do I stay up another hour and lose sleep to HOPE that the next one will be it?
I have to say I am impressed with the amount of content they are pouring on us, but it is just to much. I play every night plus more on the weekends and I just feel like I am having to spend to much time on LS to get the APs before the next race starts. They either need to cut the AP requirements in half or double the time between releases. This should actually be easier on their development load. How about spending that time instead on stuff like in game LFG?
If you don’t make into an event in the first 10 minutes you get to sit on the sidelines for up to an hour, so WHEN do they drop a new build?? JUST AFTER ALL THE EVENTS START! Why couldn’t they wait until all the events end at xx:45?
I rolled a thief to get the steal hint, but it won’t hint me. How is that triggered. My hint count seems accurate however.
I found one on my next pass through there.
The wiki and all other pet locators say: Eternal Battlegrounds in Umberglade Woods,
but I have never noticed one there. Is it a low spawn rate?
How about a different approach where the achievement system itself states if an achievement has a deadline?
New content is great, but when it comes out so often and goes away so fast it’s actually a bit annoying to have to drop everything and finish off all the events, especially if you don’t know how long you have.
