But then what would iPersona count as? 5.5 Seconds of invuln (or even 6 seconds) is ridiculous.
I think the system works fine. When I run shatter, I use Phantasms while I spawn a few clones for a shatter so they have time to attack while I have time to prep the shatter. It works out both ways. If they did your change, it would actually nerf shatters because the only way it would be able to get implemented in the current iteration of the game without breaking shatter mesmers is to actually have the damage get reduced to that, not increased to that.
And on a tangential train, I just had an idea for an Elite Mesmer skill.
Mantra of Illusions.
2 + 3/4s Charge Time.
90s Recharge.
Mantra. Meditate, charging a spell that will overpower your target.
Number of Casts: 1
Chain
Power Out
1s Recharge.
Summon up to 3 illusions to attack your foe. Illusions summoned are the same as the Illusions spawned when Mantra of Illusions is finished casting.
Range: 1,200.
Note:
If you have no Illusions out when charging this Mantra, it will spawn no Illusions.
Upon activation of Power Out, Illusions (specifically Phantasms) are spawned as if you were to cast them again, so if you are out of range for the respective skill or the Line of Sight is missing, the Illusions may not appear.
When improved with Harmonious Mantras, 2 charges will occur instead of 3.
This skill would improve shatter, phantasm, mantra, and potentially even condition damage builds immensely. It would also be power creep, but I wanted to get it off my chest. :D
500 Condition Damage: 400 Damage
1,000 Condition Damage 900 Damage
1,500 Condition Damage 1,200 Damage
You mean 1000 CD 800 D
It’s not a bug. I’m sorry that you dislike having your ears move about, but that’s what tends to happen with ears.
Allready have one, the problem is that my bank is filled with soulbound stuff, “gift of…items” and boosters and some backpieces….
You don’t have inventory problems.
.The ability to pick your 5/15/25 traits would be nice.
I would like to see this in the future as well…
Just make it so you have 2 picks of each tier, instead of 1 now and put the 5/15/25 traits in the respective tiers.
It would increase build diversity by a lot…
Apparently, traits are being worked on in the next few months or so…the devs have already said so…
I’d rather see a system similar to Diablo 3’s skill system where you can modify each skill directly. However, unlike the Diablo 3 system, I would prefer if the unmodified skill was ALSO a viable choice.
My main idea for this applies to weapon skills, not utilities. For now, though, I’ll let these idea’s keep growing inside my cranium.
Oh, why don’t you activate the button just before you finish your daily? You can also do PvP dailies so you have enough time to complete both the achievements (Saturday, Sunday, Monday).
who the what?
I don’t even…
Could you try typing that sentence out again?
What question isn’t asked everyday?
How did you miss supporting your candidate twice?
I run into A LOT of GS mesmers in WvW. I’ve never used GS myself. I find GS mesmers ring my “Ooo! Easy kill!” bell when I see them.
Original weapons I used were Scepter/torch + staff under old confusion. Then Sword/focus + staff after that. Now I run Scepter/focus + Sword/Torch (most successful build to date). Staff is a solid defensive choice. That Osi Shattercat Heavy build? I was running that before he posted up he was experimenting with it. It’s solid.
I’ve tried Scepter/X + Sword/X and it just doesn’t cut it with me. I don’t know why. I have to run GS or Staff.
After the GS fix, I was PvEing a lot so I wanted high numbers, which meant bye staff, hi GS. Since then I’ve been using GS a lot, but I recently went back to WvW. The GS adds HUGE damage, but it’s also a really offensive weapon which means I will die a lot when fighting large groups. I recently made the switch back to staff, and am still adjusting. The defensive capability is amazing, but the damage, compared to a GS, is pretty terrible (for a zerk build). However, what I tend to do is do a sword combo, end with a shatter —> weapon swap staff2 plop a few clones then distract/wait for sword combo again.
Actually, that’s a lie, that’s what I imagine I’d do, it’s been a while and I forgot what I do in WvW, anymore, it’s mostly just reflex and reactions now. Makes it really hard to edit my build since I don’t really know what I’m doing.
I got hit by a Kill Shot for 15k while I was at 50% health (max is 16k with WvW bonus), but that was because I was turning the corner and he was pre-charging it and I was like “LOL WHY IS THIS WARRIOR TRYING TO AUTO ME WITH A RIF-UUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU-…”
This was after taking out 2 of his allies and clearing a camp that he was standing in (they came after I cleared out the mobs).
Definitely could have paid more attention to that. (I think I had endurance for a roll.)
Lastly, I agree with what Levitas says, a rotation as a shatter mesmer can easily hit 15k (with a single phantasm, your MW can do 5k on a GC, if you have iPersona, that means you can do 10k [if you get lucky with crits] on a single target, adding in more phants can easily boost that to 16kish).
Sigils of Accuracy are viable choices on Phantasm (and even Shatter) builds, since they are confirmed to work on Phantasms (and Clones) with a recent change.
My initial testing showed that it was adding up but with a greater sample size, I found that it probably does not. Did anyone else check this or were you referring to my work?
As with all testing, none can ever be truly accurate. However, I was able to get to 80% crit chance with a Sigil of Accuracy and then my Phantasms were critting with every strike. However, there’s no way I can prove this.
Regardless, Sigil of Perception is better.
Late reply on this one, but…

Losing blade training and deceptive evasion is a lot, and you lose sharper images.
Blade Training is useful if you don’t weapon swap, in my opinion. However, having a 10/10/0/25/25 build let’s you make it diverse and run it in more than just one place. While I’m sure that it’s not the best Phantasm build for WvW specifically, in PvE it is one of the best Phantasm builds for pure damage and utility.
Deceptive Evasion on a Phantasm build is trakitten’s a nice skill to have/use, but it’s still trash and a waste of a trait. If you were going 30 in Dueling, it’d be better to get Fury, Blade Training, and Pistol Training, with an offhand Pistol.
Losing Sharper Images is a hit to your sustained damage, but your nuke potential goes up by having all the damage boosts on your phants. Plus, your only condition damage in a pure zerk phant build will be from traits (illusion), so your bleeds won’t add that much damage. (Honestly, I’d rather have the 15% Illusion Damage, 15% Phantasm Damage, and 20% Cooldown reduction than have bleed on crit, but that’s just me.)
Phants attack slow and likely only get to attack once. Even with signet of illusions and the 20% health trait, a phantasm is under 13k health, aka they will be one shot by most big boss attacks, and they don’t dodge.
Keep in mind that Phantasms have a higher health pool in PvE. With that said, a lot of World Bosses have niche target points which allow you to spawn a Phantasm mid-air. While a Warlock will be able to do the most overall DPS, it’s also in a position where it can get killed. Dropping 3 Wardens in the niche spots (so they’re floating at the face of the boss) will prevent them from getting killed/moved/cc’ed. This allows them to do full damage, and, when traited properly, allows them to constantly apply pressure. This, theoretically, would be a good time for Sharpened Images, EXCEPT THAT YOU’RE AT A WORLD BOSS WHERE THERE ARE CONDITION SPECS.
A full damage Warden combo will hit for about the same as a full damage Warlock, if not slightly more, but it has a lower rate of attack (between recharge and attack speed).

So then what should players work for? What should differentiate the player who plays for 8 hours a day versus the player who plays for 10 minutes a day
Nothing.
What does that example show us? How time spent, by itself, is not worth a reward. The idea that grinders deserve a reward, for doing easy and mindless content over and over (aka “dedication”), comes from classic MMORPGs, in which developers wanted people to keep playing, and thus paying, every day.
If ArenaNet were to reward something, it should be skilled play, not time spent
So we should all just sit in a corner and dance because time spent doesn’t give us anything. The best player in the game can play for 1 minute a day and get rewarded just as much as the worst player who plays for 16 hours a day. The worst player who plays for 1 minute a day will get rewarded just as much as the best player who plays for 16 hours a day.
Sigil of air gives a nice burst if you have the crit.
Sigil of Air is the same as Sigil of Fire minus the AoE. It’s a good alternative if you’re poor, but Fire is typically better (especially when you go to WvW).
The 4 signifies how many stat bonuses you get. The 5 is how many you currently have.
If you have 1 rune applied, you will have 15 vitality.
If you have 2 runes applied, you will have 15 vitality and 10 toughness (not on each rune, but total).
If you have 3 runes applied, you will have 50 vitality and 10 toughness.
If you have 4 runes applied, you will have 50 vitality and 35 toughness.
Since you have 5 runes applied, you have 50 vitality and 35 toughness (the last rune is not doing anything, therefore it’s wasted).
Keep in mind, however, that PvP gear and aquabreathers count towards the first number, but do NOT actually affect your stats (unless you’re underwater, in which case the aquabreather will replace your helm).
I flip Sam for 1 copper. Feel free to join in on this intensely profitable market.
Please correct me if I’m wrong!
But I think that this is how it works:Every weapons skill, one 1-hand or 2-hand weapons, has cooldown. Every weapon skill only uses the sigil of the weapon that was used. Every weapon skill uses one sigil. If there were two sigils on your two-handed weapon, you’d be using 2 sigils for each one of your 5 skills.
What does add up is the additional “+ stats” enchantments I think, which would give two-handed weapons an edge. But: two-handed weapons deal greater base damage than one-handed ones. Now you say, “yes, but if you have TWO of them, the damage adds up!” … but it doesn’t, as long as you can’t fire your two weapons at the same time.
Is this correct?
Both your sigils apply to all skills, if you have two weapons.
I just use all my characters that I can’t be bothered with leveling. I only have 1 character with over 100 hours on it.
Lol, how do u mean from the Tutorial? If you mean by repeating it, well you can only do it once on any given char?
You can repeat it, just logout during the cutscene of the boss death. I don’t remember if the boss gives experience, though. My PC loads maps slow, so it’s slower to do that unless the boss gives 100+exp, which I doubt he does.
For a Mesmer, do not use Sigil of Force/Night/XXX Slaying.
Why? They do not improve your Phantasm/Clone damage, and only improve your direct damage. Unless you are a Shatter Mesmer, where you deal mainly direct damage, these Sigils will hinder your damage.
Sigil of Accuracy does affect Illusions, so it’s useful in Condition (crit —> bleeds), zerker builds (more crit chance), and that’s the bulk of Mesmer builds. Of course Perception is still stronger than Accuracy (when full stack).
So what does this mean for a Mesmer player?
Sigil of Fire/Accuracy/Perception/Bloodlust/Corruption are your best bet for improved damage.
Sigil of Generosity/Purity/Nullification are overall useful.
Sigil of Energy/Battle/Strength/Blood are always nice to have (especially if you crit often for the latter two).
Other than that, the rest are for specific niche builds (like running Sigil of Earth with a critical condition build, or running sigil of life with a healing power mantra build).
And why, pray tell, do you have to do the achievement?
It takes about 1m18s to clear a circle. You kill 22 mobs in the process.
If we do the math, let’s round and assume you miss a few and are a tad slow, which means it takes you 1.5 minutes to clear (1m30s) and you kill 20 mobs.
You need to kill 1620119.67 mobs (at the rate of 3 exp per mob) to hit level 80.
Once you do the maths (too lazy to write it out here) you end up with 2025.14958 hours to hit level 80.
Assuming you play 8 hours a day, it’ll take you 253.143698 days.
My image is named LDoS[haemoor]. Almost level 6!
Now the real challenge: Map completion.
Ahhhh! CongRats!
Now you can try and get to 80 only from the Tutorial
Make me proud! But I do believe that you do deserve a title for such a challenge.
You mean like this? (I have an Experience Scroll, but I will not use it on this character.)
If you’re doing World Bosses, at least in my server there are people you get familiar with and/or lead the packs. If you know those names, you can type /join -insertname- to get in with them.
PvE, WvW, and sPvP are all different playstyles, you can’t really expect to run one same build.
However, open world PvE and WvW can mix the same build. PvE (Dungeons) typically has it’s own build (which, in some cases, can be the same as open world PvE + WvW), and the sPvP build is usually it’s own build (but it’s a free swap). It is possible to make the sPvP build into a PvE/WvW build, but, in WvW specifically, it’s not going to be super amazing in all aspects of WvW. Also in PvE, it’ll be subpar to other builds.

Spidy’s Gem numbers have been junk for a while now. Broke sometime mid June.
GuildWarsTrade has the Gold to Gem price at 3.38G for 100 gems. The Gem to Gold price is 72.25% of that or roughly 2.44G per 100 gems. So 4000 gems are 40 × 2.44 or roughly 97.6 gold as of 8:57p EDT.

Technically, only kids between the ages of 13-17 are allowed to play with express permission from a Parent/Guardian.

So then what should players work for? What should differentiate the player who plays for 8 hours a day versus the player who plays for 10 minutes a day (and yes, the average time played for players who get on GW2 is ~12 minutes a day everyday).
I think the metrics that are more important are…
How many days a week do people want to play, which can be tracked by looking for days where people play for more than 45min (since they probably don’t want to play that day and are just getting on to do the daily)
How many hours do people play on days that they want to play?
A metric saying that people just play for an average of 12 minutes per day tells you that you need better metrics to understand your players.
The 12 minutes/day was a calculation done by a player using numbers given by Arenanet (Hours played by users every week. Users logging in every week.)

Your words have potential, but they don’t really have any depth. They’re just all these words that make sense and are scattered on the ground like dice, trying to form a point.
I came into this thread, expecting a wall of text. What I got was a tripwire of text.
Regardless, they probably threw around the word reward a lot because they’re talking about their new reward system (makes sense, right?) I think you’re not giving Arenanet enough credit. Think about every player that plays this game. Arenanet has to cater to every individual; the grinder, the casual, the super casual, the super grinder, the achievement finder, the completionist, and more. And if they displease ANY of them, they get a stick shoved up their…
With that in mind, they have implemented a great system, it’s just abused (as anything and everything get, in any video game) in a way that it wasn’t meant to be. Because of that, they’re redoing the system to a method that will prevent it from getting abused (as hard). This new system will allow players to do that RNG skin grind they’ve always wanted (and yes, I am saying that they’ve always wanted this, I’ve seen so many complaints and suggestions, both ingame and out of game, asking for RNG on bosses for unique skins) That’s what’s happening. Arenanet is changing based on what the populace wants/needs.
The redundancy of content to get gear is not a problem. Why? Because you’re:
A: Working for pretty gear which you don’t need to do (you can easily play while looking ugly, there’s nothing stopping you).
B: YOU’RE working for that gear. Nobody is stopping you. Nobody is forcing you.
C: How would you propose new gear be attained WITHOUT reusing content? WITHOUT forcing players to do a task, or two, or three? How would you propose players get rewarded in a method not done with carrots (players love carrots)?
Think about it. Sure, you can add rewards tied to objectives done only once. Kinda like the Aetherblade Jumping Puzzle. Oh, that went well. But wait, there’s also the Achievement Points, you’re not forcing players to follow a carrot, you’re rewarding players who play how they want. Oh, that went well. But wait, there’s also the Fortune Scraps, which can be obtained while playing the game how you want to play the game (as long as it involves some sort of looting). Oh, that went well.
Want me to continue?
Sounds like someone doesn’t realize that they want to turn a working B2P game into a P2W game.
Any store which has tiers of buying where you get “rewarded” for purchasing amounts equal to the higher tiers is just a layer to get consumers to spend more money.
Check out this link for other methods of scamming a consumer although, to be fair, they do successfully lure you in with seemingly reasonable methods.
Just keep in mind that Arenanet has not stated that they will (or will not) just destroy anything and everything that has Magic Find tied to it. They’re simply creating a different system. How they mesh is all unknown.
I don’t find myself concerned about the, “I get the same rewards in 45 minutes as someone who plays for 8 hours.” I am concerned about, “The game is not fun to play.”
He likes other games that have vertical gear grinds. I’m surprised he still gets on GW2 daily.

Any item that gets shown through the chat box is shown in the same way when looting.
So what you’re saying is that one person messed around with the chat box, then me and my guildies, on a different servers, were affected? So the Clovers in your bank should show my guild’s name on them. I fully understand now.
No, if someone in your map pings it in map chat, it will affect you. You might not have noticed it, you might have ignored it. You might not have even seen it at all (it might have been flooded out or just not seen). Regardless, it was in your chatbox at some point.

Nor do I see how my opinion, specifically that which you quoted, makes me a communist. I do, however, like the utopian ideology behind communism, but that’s besides the point.

Why the hate/love for Shatter Mesmers? They’re the only build on Mesmer that benefits from Scholar Runes. The other builds will all just be wasting runes.
