Kids are not allowed to die in games, otherwise it would’ve been banned in many countries.
Yep, pretty much this. Which makes it all the more lame that they included the child in the cinematic to begin with.
And what’s really annoying me is that the little brat does a happy dance when the bomb goes off too! Oh I’m sorry, is all these people dying amusing to you? Did you enjoy watching mommy and uncle Dan go boom?
This brat should be traumatised beyond repair after what has just happened.
While objectively you have a point, I’m under the impression you’re looking too far into this.
She’s certainly not a character everyone recognizes, so considering the announcement on the personal nemesis I think you can make your own conclusions.
She likes her men hot too, preferably around boiling point.
“We will”
That means in the (near) future aophts.
Why would they give karma direct to your account, when you used the vials/sips/tastes/jugs to get karma. That wouldn’t solve the problem. They’re going to reimburse you with jugs(or other variety of Karma) so that you can reuse them and get the karma with the booster buff on.
And thus give him double Karma?
They’re going to pick a mean boosting percentage and give you the difference in Karma. Most likely around 75%
This is making my head ache…
Good thing there’s aspirine in the topic.
The personal nemesis is yes. Conclude what you want out of this.
I’ve considered it. The twisted seem to be the missing link, the product of golemancy and necromancy. They seem to be built with the idea of making more of themselves out of dead allies. The step to building more out of dead creatures is close at hand.
Very good points, but
4: Closing. In conclusion, Scarlet Briar isn’t the fantastic villain some people are making her out to be. She’s a stereotypical manic with unobtainable character points. She’s evil only for the sake of being evil and is Arena Net’s horrible attempt to try and explain things that already happened. Unfortunately she’s so terrible and horribly implemented that she makes more loose ends than tying them. I used to have hopes that this LS would actually be an interesting way to advance the plot of the world, but instead we’ve gotten generic villain with no backstory after generic villain with no backstory. Hopefully some of you will agree with at least some of my points made here today, thank you.

is the most sad of this underwhelming update. And it has been announced as something great. O.o
The only conclusion I get out of this is that sadly a good part of the community is jumping the gun and crying foul because not everything is served to them on a silver platter.
They promised to tie things together and they did. Unfortunately for some, that didn’t mean they explained everything to us. This is not the end of the story yet. Scarlet is in the middle of this, but is keeping plenty of secrets to herself for the time being.
…And I enjoy that. I enjoy getting little teases like her haven ‘seen’ the Eternal Alchemy. I enjoy speculating what this mass invasion could be in the light of her ‘teaching’ us things. And most of all, I have lots of patience for this story to unwind.
Just visit Vorrp in DR near the pavilion for another communicator.
I’m seriously surprised this isn’t common knowledge…
+1
Thx for the suggestion Vol. I did mine on whatever character I clicked first. I wanted to switch to the guardian and wasn’t sure how to go about getting around the soulbound item.
Good to know we can do it again on a different character.
You don’t have to redo the instance at all.
He’s outside of the pavilion, near the pit. Can’t miss the teleportation gate he’s building.
3: Scarlet Briar and the systematic destruction of lore. First of all, I’ll start at the most obvious deviation from lore. Sylvari don’t have last names, there’s not a single sylvari in the entire LS/PS/open world that has a last name. Scarlet Briar is a sylvari with a last name. Why does she have a last name? I have no idea, but if Arena Net’s creative writing team is capable of overlooking a flaw as blatant as that, I have low hopes for them.
It’s obviously more of a title, pseudo, rather than her actual name.
Second, how is she so well-educated? Not only has she graduated from all three colleges, something even Snaff couldn’t do, but she’s been trained by several other races as well. If non-asura can get into colleges now, why haven’t we seen more examples in the game beforehand? The amount of time it would take to graduate from all three asura colleges, and then also be trained by four other races is far outside the timeframe that sylvari have walked Tyria.
I see this a lot. First of all, how do you know how long it takes to graduate from a college? All Asura join one and usually stay affiliated with that college for their lifetime, but where does it say how long it takes to graduate?
Secondly, who says an Asura can’t graduate from more college’s. They just don’t seem to bother.
I’ll give you the other points because they’re mostly up in the air at the moment. You seem to jump to conclusions quite quickly though. There have been a couple of tidbits on Scarlet that point to her being influenced strongly by some purpose. She’s not just evil for the sake of it, she appears to be trying to show us something. Aside from that she’s clearly in the loony bin.
1: Mechanical flaws. I’m sure this is a broken record by now, and might’ve even been fixed by the time this post starts circulating around; but why is the communication device soulbound? Not everyone did the opening event on their main, specially since you can theoretically complete it at any level. So those that did that, not including me, are at a disadvantage until this is fixed.
I reckon you didn’t try at any point to talk to Vorrp with another character or you would have received a brand new sparkly communicator usable by that character.
For goodness sake, the most important thing is to finish off her creations. So many people let them be and behold, the remaining ones rebuild new and tougher creatures out of those remains.
Anyone who claims to have seen the meaning of life would be mentally unstable.
I tried looking at Scarlet Briar (which is very strange for a Sylvari) as an anagram, but the only thing i got was “Racist Barrel”.
So that’s a dead end
Don’t worry Quise, it’s probably an oversight. The newly bought skins can be traded, so they’ll likely update the previously existing skins too.
Or she just didn’t include them.
But let’s go for the other universe idea, it’s more spiffy.
Some of her creatures already spit out poisons, it’s not far of a stretch.
I don’t know why we should assume she’s such a natural clever cookie though. The woman claims to have seen the Eternal Alchemy. In other words, she’s seen the essence of everything. If this is remotely true, and her little poem alludes to this as well, then there’s no telling what knowledge she really has. But does this make her a born genius?
…Well it’s complicated for Sylvari I guess. If she’s ‘seen’ the Eternal Alchemy before she was born it might be.
Now we have cannon that says Sylvari are indeed smarter than Asura.
We have no such thing. We have a claim that a single Sylvari bothered to do what most if not all Asura find pointless waste of time.
This is Anet solution for cof path 1 farm ? If yes then BBBLLLLEEEAAAAHHH !!!
…what?
A solution implies there is a problem.
The almost everybody stands for almost everybody, not actually everdbody.
And thus the trap has been sprung. I’m so glad I decided to circumvent it in my earlier reply to your silly “fact”.
Or you can just talk to Vorrp in DR with any other character on your account and receive another communicator.
It can be that easy sometimes!
Oh I see, it’s that time again.
You know, the time to pull facts out of our derrières.
You experienced a dud.
I was looking around this forum for some more info and there a tread of someone opening 50 of them to see the fail/success ratio.
It’s rarely fails apparently, but doesn’t seem to teleport you to any special event place either.
You have to take it all with a grain of salt after all.
But Scarlet has seen something all right. And Sylvari are arguably closer to the Mists than any other race.
Also interesting about her mechanical minions… the green vibe, the fact that they rebuild eachother from ‘dead’ scraps.
“Necromancy and golemancy have long been destined to collide.”

I see this ‘she graduated from 3 colleges, omg she’s smarter than the asura’ thing pop up plenty of times and I just have to say that’s not necessarily true.
Putting aside the fact that she was able to join each of the colleges (which is pretty absurd), it’s a known fact that by Asuran standards these colleges look down upon each other. As is usual for Asura, they each feel that they are the best.
I think it’s not the case that an Asura would not be able to graduate from all the college’s, but more a case of they don’t want to. I’m sure graduating from one college gives you no advantage or prestige when joining a different one, ‘because those were just amateurs’ anyway. After graduating they would just start focussing on their own achievements, rather than waste time on lesser studies.
As for Scarlet Briar herself… she’s freakishly weird. There was however one line in the invasions that grabbed my attention.
“Have you met my Aetherblades? They follow me because, well, they like to live!”
I found it interesting because it made me think what she meant by that. Did she mean, they listen or I’ll kill them? I find that less likely considering they’re quite powerful and Scarlet seems smart and cunning, but not exactly a powerhouse.
The other explanation is that Scarlet knows of something which is going to create mass death (in the future) and the Aetherblades chose to join her in averting this (and thus live on if they don’t get butchered) rather than die then.
Then again, they do still act like your run of the mill pirate, so I shouldn’t look for too much purpose in them I guess.

You don’t actually believe that both Anise, her childhood friend, leader of the shining blade and an incredibly gifted and powerful mesmer, as well as her most devoted lover would be deceived by a cheap mesmer illusion on a piece of scrap metal?
Those are fan tastic guys
How refreshing, it really cleared up the air in here. Let’s hope the actual revelation later today doesn’t blow.

Queen Jenna’s fashion choices always seem to be under fire.
The choices the woman makes have nothing to do with fashion unfortunately. If Jenna’s outfit ever hits the gem store, I’ll be sure to buy myself this night gown she calls a royal dress.
Surely, who wears shoes when they’re in their night gown?
I was discussing Scarlet with my bf, considering the replies I got here, and he did bring up the point that Scarlet is all about anarchy. When thinking about it like that, most if not all events of the living story do have some consistency.
Flame and Frost, Return to Southsun, Dragon Bash and the following Bazaar. In all these parts the theme was creating chaos. The imminent attack on the Queens festivities is more of the same.
Also, no self respecting necromancer would study the powers of a mesmer. Just saying.
I suppose Liadri is far from a self respecting woman indeed
But if we are to believe Angel, we can all do pretty much whatever magic we want.I’m inclined to believe that Scarlet is not our main villain yet. I’m also still confused at her motives and behaviour, especially considering Scarlet is a Sylvari.
One thing she is most certainly not, and that is Livia.
Liadri is not real human. It’s watchknight. (well maybe real Liadri exist or existed somewhere, but not in pavilion)
Point still stands, even more so.
Despite my earlier comments I would like to give some appreciation to the Sovereign Punisher (the mace).
Is there a better way to beat the holy crap out of someone than with a rolling pin decorated with the images of four nuns?

The problem with them imho is that their style seems pretty incompatible with most if not all armor in the game.
i mean…usualy when you put X’s in the eyes of someones photo…i would suppose you want them dead
Or you’re just defiling their poster as a prank.
i guess next ur gonna say “Who says Scarlet did that?” or “So that’s the universal sign for wanting someone dead?”
If she wanted her dead, she would have drawn a noose around Jennah’s neck, or something similar. A couple of X’s over her eyes does not mean she wants her dead.
I agree with this Mad Queen Malafide, but as I did something didn’t feel right. The behaviour, the build-up, the poem… everything points to Scarlet and the Aetherblades being harbingers of doom and destruction.
And then they do something as childish as drawing faces on a poster of the queen… Suddenly I lose all sense of danger from this group.
Why the conflicting behaviour? Is Scarlet supposed to be the evil but not really type of villain?
What they did right with this one is that it’s accountbound and not soulbound.
I happily forked out 800 gems for it, and I pass it along to my characters as I play, never having to worry about salvaging.
If the tools had been the same, I would have bought them too, but alas they were soulbound and completely not worth it for me.
So many original, albeit highly improbable ideas here when the simple truth is that her speech will likely be nothing worthwhile. Nothing more than a simple plot device to get a bunch of story-important people in a single place so Scarlet, who is delivered as the big star of the next update, can do her little flaunt.
I do hope the speech lives up to her grand opening ceremony in her seemingly bathrobes for perhaps 10 tot 15 npc’s? I really felt like part of a great event there.
Chests?
I haven’t seen any chests. What I have seen is that they drop their sack. One would expect two sprockets inside, but I’ve gotten up to four! Tyria can be a place of wonder.
If you opened them already, they stay opened.
You have to find new ones.
and I assume you mean on top of the balloon towers
I know right, it’s surreal.
Oh ho ho! I see what you did there!
Thank you! I’ll be here all night.
Trying to beat Liadri...
And in this, they also discovered a new metal that has to be mined in its liquid form but is highly magically conductive – Azurite I presume since that’s what we see the kidnapped civilians mining.
Well, if you remember, during the Flame and Frost story, the Vigil was attacking the hideouts in force. If magitech was not the main purpose, then it could very well have been mobilising the Vigil so they Pact airships would be less defended.
A combination of both is more likely.
That’s all up to personal opinion. I personally loved aspect arena and completely destest the hunger games.
Fact is that they decided not to implement the aspect arena even before it was released. It was never in Kiel’s promises. I guess both sprint and arena would have been too much of the same in their eyes.
I still think it sucks, I loved that minigame.
And no one is complaining that the torch doesn’t look anything like the beautiful golden image with blue flames.
I know right, it’s surreal.
The fee, in case you wondered, is automatically separated from your person and transported directly into a guarded room in Rata Sum. The coins drop in and pile up there, and workers put them in carts and carry them to the vaults.
How deliciously crude. So our money magically vanishes from our person and is dropped in a big room where they use manual labour to ship it to the vault…
She seems like a very cheerful, enthusiastic person, but while reading it I can’t help but feel like most of it was thought up on the spot.
A small golem in front of the Queens arena which begs for money for it’s little golem children. It is amusing.
I’m somehow surprised I haven’t seen anyone take offence yet…
I am very disappointed that the aspect arena is not included in the rotation. It was by far my favourite minigame.
