I don’t understand why people have to kite the Magg room pre-patch. Killing them is much faster.

I don’t understand why people have to kite the Magg room pre-patch. Killing them is much cheaper. Fixed

Actually takes the same amount of time. Either way you had to keep the mobs off of magg till 100%.

CoF Paths 2 and 3

Path 2

Help Magg obtain Oracyte:
The old way didn’t seem to work this time around we actually had to escort magg to the other side killing everything while clearing the fire off the path. This was not terribly hard you just have to make sure your never standing in one of the pre determined aoe fires. We went up the middle not sure if there is a easier path to take.

Defend Magg while he plants the bomb to destroy the gate: (the old death train)
I have to say much more fun and once you understand how to defend magg its actually way easier. We grouped up maybe 1 foot off her and just slayed the endless hordes that come at you. What you have to watch for are the assassins they should be your main target because if they make it to magg your done. We had one person just looking for them and calling them out as they spawned.

Path 3

Light the 3 torches: (better than 5)
Just like the old but a million times easier to get done. Took us maybe 5 min to do. Pro tip bring some ash legion spy kits to make it super easy.

We did all three paths last night most of the change was done to path 2 so it seems.

Kicked from Arah p3 group at Lupricus

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Excursion.9752

I achieved dungeon master and it wasn’t because I was the greatest in the game. It was because I researched what I was going to do before I did it. There are more than enough youtube videos out to help you with problem areas and what to expect.

Make sure you tell the party at the Start hey I’m new here any tips along the way to make this easier would be great. You will find more times than not people are willing to work with you. If they are going to kick you they would do it then most times.

If its the first time you are doing any path don’t try to join a speed run group. You are just asking to get kicked.

Some people take games seriously even though you shouldn’t so go into every pub group thinking everyone is hardcore. This means don’t ridicule their play style and if you do try to give some pointers use some tact. Don’t just say hey man you suck. I generally ask what build they are using then after they answer then I reply with oh nice, I heard this build was pretty useful as well have you tried it yet? Then after a few failed attempts sometimes they will ask… hey about that build you were talking about how does that work?

I’ve suffered through some horrible groups but what it boils down to is some basic research. Know your enemy and their weakness.

It really is laughable how people are. I can’t say I’ve had this happen to me but I really hope it does. I have two sets of gear out of spite I would change to my power precision toughness gear just to lower the dps and make it go just a tad bit slower for them. Then put it on them at the end “I cant believe it took you all this long” and leave.

AHEM Build

Excursion.9752

The main issue with the build seems to be when I am not surrounded by allies

This is very true. I do not do much pvp/wvw but you notice a big difference in healing when your alone compared to when you have a full team around you. Its not what I would say is bad but its just not as good.

When I’m doing a pub dungeon I always love to see warriors or guardians in the mix because you know they will be hit with every symbol and shout. Some classes have incredible range and you got to keep that in mind because your shout only has 600 reach. I’ve found myself running back just a tad during a fight just to get the full effect of the heal from my shout.

I’ve noticed people do use different runes with this type of build but I like the Dolyaks because of the when you take into account the regular regeneration of the guardian plus the 30 on top its not that bad. I just prefer the steady constant regeneration.

May I ask what is the core difference between your build and the one stickied right at the top?

I could say the same about most builds that are posted around AH. He does a brilliant job of going over everything. I am going over what I found works the best out of all of that for myself and that I found to be useful. Most people when looking at that much info can get overwhelmed. I break it down into two builds so people can use two builds with not having to retrait.

Thanks for the comparison.

AHEM Build

AHEM = Altruistic Healing Empowering Might

Gear:

Armor: Knights or Berserker (key here is high precision)

Armor Runes: Superior Rune of the Dolyak (Vitality, Toughness, Health Regeneration)

Accessories/Rings: Knights Base with Berserker gems

Weapon: Berserker

Weapon rune: Superior Sigil of Accuracy

Having a full set of Knights and Berserker armor on you at all times will prepare you for any situation. I only switch to the knights set in cases where you know you will be taking a high amount of non condition base damage. You can mix and match to have the best of both worlds if you do that only change the Head, Body, and Legs to Knights and leave the rest Berserker. I personally do not change any of the rings/accessories just the armor. All my armor pieces have Dolyak runes for the extra toughness, vitality and health regeneration.

Builds:

1) Great sword / mace, shield or Great sword / mace, focus
http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fUMQNAR5elYgqCnFyvDfIFRuAbBYPwYGh/1DHSRGC

2) Hammer / mace, shield or Hammer / mace, focus
http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fUMQNAS5elYgqCnFyvDfIFRuAbBYP0oHh/1DHSRGC

The great thing about these two builds is you do not have to pay to change builds. Just adjust your traits and your golden.

What both builds have in common is the ability to heal on boon and since you have a high critical chance you will heal yourself a great deal every time you give your party a stack of might every time you crit. All of your Virtues will heal you when they are activated especially Resolve. Every time you evade you will heal not only yourself but party members around you. Every time you apply Justice you will blind nearby enemies as well. Both builds have shouts and they heal you when applied as well. One other perk about this set up is you lose 2 conditions every 10 seconds as long as your signet of resolve is not on cool down.

The differences between the two builds are Build 1 will allow the cool downs for shouts and two handed weapons to be reduced by 20%. Build 2 will make the symbols larger and last longer.

When to use what build:

Build 1 is typically what I play most of the time. I switch to build 2 when I have at least one other Warrior or Guardian with me. Because the symbols you apply with the mace and hammer will heal you as long as your allies are in it. Keep in mind every second they are there you get more health. Yes you count as well so even if you are alone you will still get a little health for being inside the symbol. The hammer’s symbol is a 33% damage reduction on top of the heal. This comes in handy for staying on your feet.

Food:

Omnomberry Pie – 66% chance to steal life on critical and +70 precision

Master Maintenance Oil – Gain precision equal to 6% of your toughness and precision equal to 4% of your vitality

The higher the critical chance the greater chance you have to steal life.

Things to note:

Every fight you encounter is situational and sometimes you will need to use the scepter with the shield or focus in replace of the mace. Keep an invisible bag on you just for your armor and weapons it helps a great deal to be prepared for any fight. No build will work for you if you do not know how to evade so please learn to wisely use it. What these builds boil down to is trying to keep you with the agro and receiving health in any way possible. When you feel you are in trouble use your elite skill to refresh your virtues and receive 2 seconds of invulnerability.

About My Guardian:

Over 500 hours played with the character in the past 4 months and completed every dungeon path with him as well. I can vouch everything listed above works and works well.

Questions please feel free to ask. Thanks for reading.

Notice: This is not a Fractal Build but mainly for all other PvE and Dungeons.

What do you think about Guardians?

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Excursion.9752

I just got Dungeon Master with my Guardian, I did every path with him and no other class.

Armor: Exotic Berserker Armor W/Dolyak Runes

Rings ect: Go toughness base with ruby gems

Build: 0/5/30/30/5 Altruistic Healing and Empowering Might

Foods: Maintenance Oil and Omnomberry Pies

Notes: Every time you give anyone a boon including yourself you will heal yourself. High precision is necessary because every time you crit your party gets a stack of might which is a boon and it heals you. Any virtue you use will heal you as well. This is not the ideal fractal build but for dungeons it works best for me. If you are looking for cheap armor just do CoF runs every day. People complain about lack of DPS. Sure warrior can do great damage but you can get your Guardian over 3000 attack fairly easy. Dolyak runes are pricey over 4 gold so save up if you can.

I am not sure why people say playing guardian is dull. I think its a personal opinion on how you like to play the game. I love it and prefer it to playing any other class. The only thing I dislike about the guardian is their range abilities or lack there of…

Tip: Try to bring one of each weapon you can use in your pack with you if at all possible. You don’t want to be caught in a situation where you are just standing there doing nothing.

Arah path 4: Need for Dungeon Master

Excursion.9752

Tips:

  • Stack tears and I do not mean just a few. Grab as many as you can and place them in the same area. The area you have designated to pull her to.
  • Use the 4 and 1 trick – After the first time she goes invisible place 4 sparks then let her get full health take her back down and then place 1 spark as fast as you can this will take her into phase 2.
  • Only have two spark runners one for top two sparks and one for bottom 3 both runners will need to have some sort of swiftness utility to make sure you have max duration. Make sure both runners are running the same direction either clockwise or counterclockwise. Everyone else STAY OUT OF THE WAY! The sparks aggro by proximity.
  • Spark runners need dump all their attacks on her then get into position to run the sparks again. I believe once you hit phase 2 she will go invisible every 45 to 60 sec.
  • My rule of thumb is everyone in your party should have around 2900 attack. Yes it can be done with less but I try not to make it harder than it already is. The Higher your DPS of your group will help you to have to not make as many spark runs. When you have lower DPS it will cause your spark runners to have a very small margin for error.

Hope it helps.

most Dungeon Masters suck.

I laughed literally out loud when I read that. I really can’t believe that statement seeing how they have had to at least experience all the dungeon content. It’s hard to believe they were carried through all of it. Path1 and 4 Arah you really have to hold your own weight in and if people are making it through that content I would go out on a limb and say they don’t suck that bad.

If you have a 3 to 4 baddies in a group its really hard for the others to carry the load. There is not a class in this game that can take 100% of the damage all the time.

Laugh all you want. That’s my personal experience. I have so often literally carried teams on Dwayna or Lupicus (and then at the end of dungeon “Yay I got DM”). I have so often seen Dungeon Masters standing in safe-spots (while not an issue alone it definitely doesn’t make them seem better). I have so often seen Dungeon Masters leaving party members behind when skipping (standing few meters away watching one enemy slowly chipping downed health away). I have even seen few DM’s tell me how they know this and this fight better while clearly having no idea.

Running everything once just doesn’t give you enough experience.

I know some good DM’s but they are often on my friendlist.

Everything is situational and some people do come unprepared for dungeons. In the case where people are skipping and someone goes down its very rare for people to go help the individual until after the monsters go back to their starting area. If I go down I don’t expect someone to save my rear when its my fault i fell in the first place…

In cases when you know your team is skipping make sure people have the spy kits they come in handy when resing in crazy situations. You can ask this at the start if its a concern.

I wish I could find someone like you that carries so effectively. I am not really sure how you did that with Dwayna when it really takes a team effort between spark running, tear throwing, and dpsing. But if you say so.

I personally would rather have more way points with respawn timers.

First death – 30 sec
Second death – 60 sec
Third death – 90 sec
and so on and so on

Every 5 min one death gets removed from your total.

I just hate having to run back ….

You only had to do each one once.
It doesn’t say you did it without anybody getting killed.
It doesn’t say you didn’t use an exploit.
It doesn’t say you weren’t carried through (any or all).
It doesn’t say you didn’t try several times for each one.
It doesn’t say you learn from your mistakes.
It doesn’t say you remember any of the content.

A title that says ‘I did stuff’ doesn’t have much weight when it doesn’t say how long or how many times or how much help you had to do it.

Optimist eh? What it does say is that you have put in the time to have more than a basic understanding on how dungeons/fractal groups should work.

Maybe its me but I when I see someone with a legendary, world completion, or a rare title I assume they would know how to play the game. I’ve never had the experiences some of you all had in groups with people that had any of those. Maybe its someone else in your group?

I like this idea for the most part but I think people should have both 100% world completion and Dungeon Master. To me that means they are at the end game of the PvE aspect of the game.

I also think it should be purely cosmetic and should stick out like legendary weapons. When you see those people you know they have worked for it.

Maybe put new items on the dungeon vendors that you would buy with tokens then have to take the the dungeon master vendor in exchange for what you want.

Who all wants to go run Path 4 Arah with everyone wearing MF gear? Tell me how that Dwayna fight treats you.

It just doesn’t sit right with me while I’m in all berserker gear holding my own to get through the dungeon as fast as efficiently as possible and someone rides on my coat tails to the end collecting more loot than I got and in the end making more gold than I did. The team contribution to gold ratio is off there.

Maybe if the MF was divided equally amongst the team it would be a lot better. Lets say one person has 130% MF gear on that would get divided across the team each person getting 26%. I think then I wouldn’t mind it as much.

Why not use the "Diablo 3" Magic Find System?

in Suggestions

Posted by: Excursion.9752

Excursion.9752

The impact it has on the games economy is great. Once people finally get up there in magic find there would be a wave of weapons, armor, and others flooding the market and over time everything would be extremely cheap.

People find great joy in trying to get the gear they want and it inspires them to play now imagine if people could get all the gear they want for under a few Gold in the trading post.

Now you have to take into account the gold farmers and how their MF levels would be since they don’t have to sleep.

It sounds like makings of a perfect storm. One that has most definitely ruined D3.

I’m neither for or against it. All I have to say if was not intended to be used then it will be blocked in the future when they update the dungeons.

Most complaint threads come from people in pub groups. Either find a guild that is like minded or never go into a dungeon. In most cases people want to finish dungeons with the least amount of effort. Standing up on a ledge and using range to take out a boss may not be the most efficient way to do it but it sounds pretty easy.

You will find your life will become much easier if you just go with the flow of the group. You will never win the battle of " lets do this the hard way instead of the easy way".

When you enter a dungeon if your character has not completed the story you will only be given the option to enter the dungeon in story mode once you have finished the story you can now enter it in exploration mode. Keep in mind if you make a new character you will have to do the story mode again.

Tokens are spent in Lions Arch you will see a line of vendors by the WvW gates you have to go to the right vendor for your dungeon , I believe yours will be on the left hand side if your facing the line of them.

Hope that helps.

I only play guardian and imo builds and what weapons you use are entirely up to you pre lvl 70.

What I did is every 10 lvls buy all new gear to match your lvl and it does not need to be top of the line the cheapest will do. This will help you level at a much faster rate since things will be a tad easier to kill and increase your survivability.

How you play the game after you hit 80 will change a lot because when you start doing harder content you will need specific gear for what you are trying to accomplish. Example from 1 to 70 most always used mace/torch now that I’m 80 I can’t even remember the last time I used a torch.

AH build is the guardians bread and butter once you hit 80 there are 3 or 4 variations of the build you can find just pick the one that fits your play style. Once you hit 70 I would go 0/0/30/30/0. Once you hit 80 then figure out how you want to modify your build.

The best weapon for staying alive in your early stages of leveling is your mace every third swing heals you and then symbol of faith heals you as well.

Looking for something new

in Players Helping Players

Excursion.9752

I have a fully geared 80 Guardian a not so well geared 80 Thief and a 39 Ranger.

I am looking for a new class to play I was thinking something along the lines of Elementalist, Necro, or Mesmer to change it up a bit.

I mainly do PvE content and do Dungeon runs.

So if you would like to help me decide please tell me why the class you are telling me is the one I should use and perhaps a popular build used in pve/dungeons.

I don’t have the time to try them all out so I need your help! Thanks!

Fed-up with waiting for CoF

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Excursion.9752

The CoF event chain needs to be fixed to the time it should take to complete all 3 paths under Ideal conditions. I should not be able to finish one path and have to go do any events to open it back up.

Imho I think any dungeon being contested is ridiculous. Some times people only have so long to play and having to do extra stuff to open it up is not good form.

I think the best bet with the current system would be when the daily resets happen contest all the dungeons and have each one of their events start and once they are unlocked they are unlocked for the day.

How to get people to visit completed areas

in Suggestions

Posted by: Excursion.9752

Excursion.9752

I’ve been thinking about how to get people to visit areas that have been 100% complete.

I was thinking of a NPC that hands out a random quest not totally random but maybe have 10 possible

selections per day and people could do them 3 times a day. The result of finishing one of these quests

would give you a new type of “currency” similar to dungeons. That can be used at that same NPC to purchase

new and exciting stuff.

The catch is in order for this to work some unique / fresh new items would be there and changed out on a

pretty regular bases. This would keep people wanting to repeat the quests each day. In turn putting more

people in to areas that seem abandoned.

This I think would help deal with a lot of the group events that never get finished anymore and there is a

possibility that it would be a great way to help new players.

These individual quest would take people to zones lvl 69 and lower

Possible quests:
1) Go to a particular zone and gain “x” amount of XP
2) Go to a particular zone and finish “x” amount of events
3) Go to a particular zone and kill “x” amount of this creature
4) Go to a particular zone and gather “x” amount of resources
5) Go to a particular zone and talk to “x” amount of NPC’s
6) Go to a particular zone and finish “blank” jumping puzzle

I believe you could mix and match those that I’ve listed above. Like one quest would be 1, 3, and 6 so

people would have to do all of that to get the chest with their reward inside.

This would poor people into areas that they may have never visited again.

You could take this a step farther and have the one of the prizes you can buy a group quest ticket that

requires 5 people to be teamed up and have them do things like Finish 1 dungeon path and do some of the

things that I mentioned before in the higher areas 70 – 80 and the end chest would be similar to getting 100% completion in that area.

So would anyone else like to see something like this?

Mad King event was lot more fun

Excursion.9752

Winter Wonderland jumping puzzle, Snowball Mayhem PvP minigame, Toypocalypse and Bell Choir were giant improvements over the mad king’s events. Granted the lore to the mad king was better but I think it was a giant step in the right direction other than the redundant Tixx missions. It is to bad they didn’t have a scavenger hunt like the mad kings to get some of the lore about wintersday out in the open.

I have mixed emotions about them making the change. I would rather them take the time to make the change and bring the toypocalypse back for a few days after you can make your own groups. It just really takes away from the people that did it without losing any dolyaks.

Another nice solution would be to lower the required number of dolyaks to 1 but to all the groups that survive from here on out without losing any get a special prize.

Do you have an official link to where ArenaNet says this. If so that would be lame they never changed clock tower when it was to hard for some people why would they make and exception for this? If they crack it would be weak on their part. I don’t think its a great achievement by no means but changing it after some have already did it the “old way” would be pretty lame.

I guess now they are changing it so you only need one dolyak alive to receive the achievement. It’s complete bull kitten if you ask me.

Where did you read this? That is really beat up if they change it… If they do they need to do something for the people that got it the “old” way. A guy can wish.

I see to many complain threads and not that many help threads. So if you have earned the achievement please post how your team did it.

I recommend getting “Not Toying Around” achievement first so you can learn the game mechanic and the feel for the new style of play.

When trying to get “Toypocalypse Canceled” the first two waves are vital if you can make it through the first two without a dolyak going down your team more than likely get through all 10 waves with ease provided you know how to take down Toxx.

First things first, save Maggie do this by putting a Tier 3 catapult near the outer rim of the main circle so it can fire efficiently at her and the other dolyak’s. You want to build as many tier 3 equipment as you can on the north east side because initially that’s were they all are coming from. If you put a few snow men a little out from maggie they will help draw some of the enemies from her allowing your catapult to clear them out in most cases in one hit.

In the early stages make sure you secure the outer rim of the circle with upgraded equipment while blocking off the smaller entrances to the circle with snow walls I believe there are 3 or 4 ways that can be blocked fairly quickly with these walls do not worry about the giant areas till later on just put tier three catapults down and let them clean house.

Don’t just build your siege equipment inside the circle build everywhere! Even snow men all over the outlaying areas will be beneficial if you put them just in range for the siege equipment to fire from the inner circle. The enemies will try to take out the snowman and in the mean time getting cleared by most of your tier 3 equipment. Once you feel you got the inner circle pretty secure just start building things right where you find the scrap/snow this will scatter the enemies and it will be easier to take them out when they are not in a large group.

Heal your dolyak’s between rounds there is Hay scattered around the outer edge of the main circle gather it up and go to the dolyak with the least amount of health and feed them they will gain a nice chunk of life back. I believe and I may be wrong but 2 or 3 pieces of hay spawn after each round.

Heal yourself! The middle of the giant circle where the dolyak’s stand if you stand right next to them the spring will heal you to full takes about 5 secs to go from low health to full health. Please don’t die if you can avoid it its always best to not handicap your team so being on your feet near the action is always better than trying to be the hero. Even if your fighting Toxx if you get low go to the middle and refill the run/time is a lot shorter in most cases.

How to easily kill Toxx without a Dolyak getting touched. Most cases Toxx will try to enter the circle through one of the tiny path ways that you can easily block with snow walls so if you have Tier 3 equipment behind those walls they will take chunks out of his life quick. Bait him away from the circle its always best to take aggro and back away from your equipment because he has attacks that can clear it all out in a swing. There should be no reason you should be in the big circle at all while toxx is out everyone should be focusing on getting him away. Rifles do a good job at baiting but I found the Candy cane basher works great if you are good with evading. If you decide to go the candy cane route make sure you use every attack as it refreshes sometimes you can time it just right and interrupt him and in doing so he will get pushed back a bit. If you get low on health don’t continue to try and bait have the others do it for you while you go get some health. Don’t die that is your main objective. Keep in mind you want to bait him away from the circle but keep him in distance for your equipment to attack him as well. You don’t have to do this but it makes the fight go way faster. Just get him away from your path blocking walls!

Remember in the last few waves enemies spawn inside the circle make sure you have enough inside to clear them out. Its great to have a lot outside the circle but you need to secure the inside first and foremost. You see a hole in a main path wall fix it don’t assume someone else will do it. “Your Score” really does not matter here in fact I really do not know why they score this instance when the objective is as it is. Also upgrade others equipment even though they get the credit for its kills.

How to upgrade: Grab the materials it take to upgrade what ever it is that you want to upgrade then go right next to the equipment click on it then press “F”. Very easy but you will notice that there are not that many that do it. Upgraded equipment do a lot more damage than the standard.

I know its a long post but there is some good info in there and I hope people find their right team to help get their achievement.

Armor wise I go balanced between Helm, Chest, Legs all in Knights (power precision toughness) and Shoulders, Gloves, Boots all in Berserkers (power precision and crit damange)

I typically use the hammer in dungeons but I am desperately searching for a build that utilizes the AH with a great sword.

I went from 1 to 80 in around 8 days playing 3 to 4 hours a day. They key is to push yourself and not do hearts that take to long. Keep moving and don’t worry about 100% on a zone till your done leveling.

Also some good advice is to try to unlock all playable weapons so you can see what you are working with and what fits your play style. Don’t bother doing hearts that are a lower level than you are.

Linking all servers together for PvE

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Excursion.9752

In short default people to the overflow in areas where everyone across all servers can play with one another and when the overflow is full make them default back to their original servers. Then people can do things solo while waiting for their spot to transfer to the overflow.

Basically make the overflow the default and switch the rolls of the two.

Great Idea and needs to be done very soon.

Jumping Puzzle Feedback [Merged]

Excursion.9752

All I can say is that the waiting to do these types of puzzles needs to be cut down significantly. I can complete the puzzle just fine but in the case that I make a bad jump and then you have to wait for everyone to finish is very frustrating.

I think overall the puzzle itself is better than the camera nightmare that people call the clocktower but there is still room for improvement. Splitting people up into three groups helped a bunch we just need to work on the waiting in between attempts.

Waiting for contested dungeon is not fun!

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Excursion.9752

Excursion.9752

There needs to be a better way than to have these blocked the way they are now.

Lets make it so there are two ways to free up a dungeon. Have the standard event chain that will unlock the dungeon for “x” amount of hours and then have a temporary event out in front of the dungeon that is a “Enemy Moral” event where you have to kill so many to unlock it for “x” amount of minutes.

This would also help when some events get bugged out. I think this would help inspire players to actually go down and try to get in because the way the mind set is now its to much of a chore and requires to much time for some players to want to go into some dungeons. I think this would also take care of that problem as well

Karma gear - like to see account bound

in Suggestions

Posted by: Excursion.9752

Excursion.9752

I will attempt to see both sides here. Karma is tied to helping out in events with a particular character and raising that characters Karma in the world. So its tied to that character.

Jugs of Karma are account based and can be used on a different character than who received them from their daily quests.

I fail to understand why one form of Karma is transferable and the other is not. I would say either make the Jugs soulbound or make karma transferable amongst characters.

Its sorta a slap in the face to have it both ways. Maybe make a container that is craftable that people can transfer it in that way there is some sort of gold sink.
