warrior feels weak because it has no sustain. warriors were never meant to kill as quickly as thieves but thieves but they are meant to be right up in the thick of the fight. Unfortunately warriors cannot stand in a fight. Necromancers out sustian and out damage us at the same time

Thing is, if i fully ‘let the pvp spirit take my mind’ for a bit (wich is not good, more on that later), and player super competitive, I might win a few. But I also might have a streak of 480-500 or closer games. Say that happens. Say that 8 matches in row this happens. I will start considering the game machmaking to be at fault and NOT my team/team composition. While close enough for rematch, the game clearly keeps putting my team slightly ahead of the true expected win rate. It might feel like small impact, but loosing 8 pips!!!! for 8 VERY incredibly well played games (imo), is just wrong. It will make me rage, and not know where to send the rage at. Sure you could ‘find ways to improve,’ but there’s also limits in that. Same for ‘keeping the pvp spirit’ (hardcore wanting to win, doesnt matter via screaming, elitism, as long as you win). It’s not good. Game is i meant to be fun, and keep you busy with goals.
Two problems: Forcing people to have 75% win rate (is necessary to cross ruby /diamond consistently), gets the worst in ppl. It will remove the fun part (hence true pvp spirit is wrong imo).
By forcing you (sometimes) to loose 490-500 many times in row, and be punished for it, you will get mad. You did all you could witrh your team, but didnt work out. Who’s at fault? It’s not logical to just say the team (it’s only 2% diff, wich can be statistical error, or just luck on enemy side). You will get mad. Your will to win (in this sort of matches), will fall down in no time. And in every next game you feel you are loosing, you will not waste energy and ‘rage quit’ (or ’economicly save your pvp sportsmanship in the matches it might be more ncessary).
Result: the fun factor in pvp is TWICE damaged. The frustration levels are TWICE increased.
And the will do farm the goal (wings), is damaged. Cause Anet forces you in matches you can almost not win. And not winning is loosing out on the wings (you need pips).
This is speaking from a mostly soloQ (using chat to communicate) perspective.
Since you want to have fun in the game… please play UNRANK and stay away from RANK. That’s the easiest solution for you.
And at the dude above you, it wont the amount of afk’er because you get harshly punish everytime you afk. If one of your teammates doesn’t contribute in the gane report him bitting; I still wish ANet had an afk/not contribution to the game in their report section.

There is no such thing as CUTTING YOUR LOSSES … you either win or loses its simple. That’s life so stop trying to SJF your logic into this game. And at the second poster, it won’t increase the amount of afk’er. You know what?? Because you get time out everytime you afk, like who want to get a 1 hour time out during league?

Well you can´t do annything to this issue. Its mental. A player might not go AFK he might just not pay much attention/focus on getting points and do things like fighting offpoint or standing close to minimize his effort. The only way to minimize that is giving a reward for making points. Not very much have the mental setting of never give up or fight till death ;-).
I also have seen such combacks. Its great. I just say that no reward for pointing will lead to less motivation for fighting hard.
Your first point : I thought that’s why Anet gives us 1 min and 20 sec at the start of very gane so we know where everyone is going, and also setup rules for the team such as not fighting off points, etc… It looks as if you want Anet to fix your team camp communication, if the 1:20 min are not enough then I guess anet should increase to 2 min’s( which I am strongly against) to help others player who are struggling with team camp communication.

Well it might lead to players giving up and going for a coffe after a few minutes and i hate that. If you fall behind 100:200 and one player goes AFK there won´t be a great comback chance. And a system with flat rewards/losses suppots this.
Nope it doesn’t because comebacks do happen, I have seen people comeback from 4 vs 5. So who is to say 200- 100 is a death sentence. If anything catering to afk players by adding a resign feature would only encourage them for afk ing more. Why?? Because in rank afking time you out for 15 min’s at first, from there it increase exponentially.

People are already afking in unranked if they get behind in points. Imagine how many more ppl r gonna afk in ranked where they explicitly go in order to win. Personally I like to play the entirety of the match to at least have fun playing even if we lose(which is impossible if 1-2 teammates already afk), if arenanet thinks otherwise they should add a /resign command like in gw1.
The system that used to reward players for getting more points even if they lose was a great idea except most people had no clue it was a thing because it was only mentioned in a blogpost.

When you changed matchmaking to not take MMR into account was not the perfect solution. Yes, it made good players have an easier time climbing the ladder but at the price of matching ppl up with players out of their skill level. IMO matchmaking based on MMR should have been kept but higher MMR would cause you to gain more pips on a win or something. Neither bad players enjoy getting farmed by pros nor pros enjoy not getting a challenge. (the division skipping for achieved players would also fight this)

Need those divisions for the achievement and tournie badges. Skipping them would be more of the punishment, than reward.
Then grant the rewards too… all people who earned something deserve to have a bonus for placing high in the previous season.
With your mindset i feel the only thing that keeps you moving is the rewards. I don’t think that’s what pvp is about. People used to play pvp when all you could get is fun and being respected for being good at the game.

Yes – I know we might get the red resigns/blue resigns mess to gimmic a system. This is unlikely if they are interested in real progression on the leaderboard.
You can always have a strict limit of how many /resigns an individual can request in a day. No-one wants to play matches which are face-roll 500v<100 (which is happening in unranked more often than not right now – so may as well AFK and enjoy the free rank points later).
No just no,first because you are supposed to play a rank game till the ends. This will encourage more people to just afk in game. The way the game is structured is good enough to keep players from Afk , who want to lose a pip?
Second with the new/rank match making system it’s every unlikely for game to be lost by 400 pts. And even if it was implemented because would still abused it, given that the resign was set to 1 per day. So no, we seldom had any problem with faker or on sided gane last season. So if it’s not broken why fix it?

It does happen (I downed two people in a 3v1 that way just last night), but it’s rare. Catching more than one person without the expectation that they’re below 50% is more common, though.
Meanwhile, the 3rd hit on the mace auto chain hits for more damage than Final Thrust when targets are above 50%. It can be used every 1.75s, it applies 5 stacks of vulnerability, and nobody tries to dodge it because it’s an auto.
Keep in mind that, despite this, I choose sword over mace pretty much every time on a power build. But it’s not for the damage, it’s for the utility.

1rst point- How can you predict th3 future?? So it’s not gg since people can always comeback.
2nd – I am pretty sure that would only work during the first 3 minutes of the game; but that’s a valid point.
@Fivedawgs sounds like you’ve never used sword before in a power build, as such you have no idea how it can benefit both power and some condi builds. Now sir, your attempt to belittle my suggestion just makes you look like a moron.
Well, it wasn’t an attempt but sword does more dmg than mace that’s just a fact sword 3 does more dmg then mace 3 and all the mace auto when your enemy is under 50% Hp; and we are not even accounting for the bleed. Mace 2 is pretty much defensive it only does dmg when hit whereas sword 2 always land. So yeah, sword does more Dmg than mace on a power build.
One of the suggestions I’ve made in the past regarding sword mainhand is giving it extra adrenaline per hit on the auto attack. Prior to the nerfs on warrior I ran sword/shield and great sword on a power build for mobility and to set up burst using immobilize on the burst skill. However now, the mobility it provides is not enough anymore; especially not enough to justify the loss in potential damage using other sets. I’m currently using mace/shield (loss of mobility made up with extra block/reflects and damage increase).
I believe giving it an adrenaline buff would make it more viable on power builds, without making it overshadow axe mainhand in terms of dps. Any buffs you guys suggest, please take into account the other weapon sets!

Crowd Control is bad, extremely bad, very very bad for PvP balance.
Crowd Control is interesting, entertaining, especially for kids when they control other players.
Because of these opposing reasons, PvP should have a very small and well thought out dose of crowd control.
But, most likely all this is just my opinion, because this game does not have a small dose, but a huge dose, in just a few professions.
Have you ever heard of stability ( which counter 99.9% of physical cc) or condi clear( which works well against immobile,chill and stuff)??

The challenge is to create your own build, something completely different, but not meta. With that in mind you can see how “beautiful” the balance is, and how they do “not love” money while “not making” you to buy expansion.
Meta builds are “meta” because meta builds are builds that are extremely well put together and synergize well with the current game mode.
Believing that non-meta builds should be on par with meta builds is essentially saying “please make craptastic builds equal to well thought out builds”
Now yes you could argue that there needs to be more builds considered “meta,” but people really need to abandon this delusion that balance means every possible build is equal.

There is so much synergy within some classes that it becomes simply unfair.
Mostly they certainly are well thought out builds, by people who deserve all the success they get by figuring out these builds, but when some fotm class hopper rolls you with little to no effort, stands there getting smacked by all your heavy hitters while dodge rolling your autoattacks, it’s disheartening to see how little effort it takes to win in this game.
Now this has nothing to with the game design, that’s an MMR issue. There is no way your going to win a game in high elo JUST because you are running a meta build; if anything having your own build will keep you alive longer,leading to a win, since at least 30% of high elo player know most meta build and their respective combo.
Also it should be mentioned that i can’t think of an MMO that has catered to non expansion owners as much as HoT has i really feel that non expansion players should understand how rare it is to not have level cap increases new gear levels etc.
It in all likely hood would have been much easier to increase the level cap add in new skills whilst you level and increase trait length by one so you have 4, choices instead of 3. The implementation we got with elites and no cap increase is much more difficult to balance and would have been done with people who don’t want to upgrade in mind among others.
The game is by no means perfect and some aspects deserve constructive criticisms but i think its abit ridiculous to complain that you are getting screwed over as a non expansion owner.
This… these folks don’t understand that warm bread is not given for free. So, we are literally beating on a dead horse.
…so you used to have to purchase core GW2, then ANet developed the expansion and said “hey, since we now have the expansion, let’s give the core game away for free!”

You don’t understand. Channeled skills should not be untargeted by invisibility. This is according to the wiki. Confusing Images is a channeled attack.
Ranger Rapid fire is a channeled skill. It can’t be evaded by invisibility or short range teleport. So, if ranger hide evades a channeled attack like Confusing Images; Then Ranger has a significant defensive advantage.
Who said it untargeted anything, unless I am wrong the rabger hide just switch target. Then again, I don’t know rangers mechs.
Warriors clearly needs survivability buffs. If they think their current state is fine for the next few months then they have lost another player.

That’s because they are sheeps; they just follow the herd. They judge the gane popularity based on how many streamers they see on twitch. Twist of the story,which th3se sheeps can’t figured out, is that most pro players are trying new builds for the finals. Sharing them is a garantee loss on their Team since their oponents could just counter whatever they came up with.
Anet’s new matchmaking algorythm logic seems to be; "if someone wins, put them in a match they can’t possibly win.
No the algorithm boils down to “if someone wins they aren’t playing against good enough opponents, if someone loses then they need to play against weaker opponents”
ofc it tends to be streaky about this, but whatever. I’d rather have this than the random queues so many games use.

Yup, I knew it one week prior. Went up against one of Best Team North Africa ele, me (as a warrior), phataram as a rev and another dude threw everything we had at him and the ele sustained the fight for about 40 sec. I was baffled by it. I guess pratice/ or knowing what to run can make anything viable. This is why I ve ignored all those ele are no pointless in pvp, clearly those folks havent had a clue on what to run on theirs or aren’t experienced enough.

Sure you can, but it is doubtful that such practice is main reason anyone is using gem store, most anybody playing pve gets gear by doing well… pve and uses gem shop to get new “shiny looks”. Just as most exclusive pvp players(if there even are any left) use gem shop to buy new shiny looks.
Sure there will be odd apple or two with more money than sense that will blow hundreds of dolars/euro on gem->gold transitions just to buy full pve gear on TP, but there are(most likely) so few of them that they are not main source of income. It’s been common trend past few years showing that small transactions in big quantity are more profitable than few bigger sales.
Thanks for agreeing with me, check my original post above where I stated due to gold to gems conversion or vice versa; Anet make most of its money with xpac sales.
What is this obsession with HoT being bad? Seriously. Despite all its faults, I have gotten my moneys worth when it comes to both HoT and GW2core.
Balance being terrible is a fact of life when it comes to Anet. If you expected anything else you were living in LaLa land. At least they are debugging like crazy now which is a major plus.
The things that HoT did right:
- elites are great gameplay vise even if they are a noticable power creep
- complicated new maps
- non cakewalk meta events
- raids
- seasonal leagues even if the meta was horrid in the first season
This … I wouldn’t call it an obsession though, since most of the HoT complainer want a free xpac(Courtesy of Uncle Sam). Have you noticed they seldom asked for Anet to remove the elite specs, you know what?? Because they want them for FREE!!!! The specs aren’t poorly designed because they still rely on core; granted that some are Op but that doesn’t nullify the greatness of elite specs.

HoT is very bad PvP-wise, and this is a PvP subforum. Balance was much better before it. In fact, now it reached its bottom since the game release. There were always some problems, but never so huge. To make it even worse, we can see no significant improvements – that is deleting power creep once for all, not gently ‘shaving’ it for eternity.What we can see instead is painfully dumbing down the gameplay, to make it more accessible to beginners. It will work for increasing population of PvP, but it costs the game’s quality.
What? Are you seriously saying that this balance is worse than the one shot meta or 4 ele one thief meta prior HoT Balance is subjective indeed!! I main warrior and I can tell you this is one of the best meta we have ever had. Why?? Build diversity, at least for warrior; we have about 4 viable build atm, and if that’s not balance then idk what this.

Uninstalling 2 days after an expansion was a foolish move. Even if balance of Revenant/elite specs were perfect, you would still be getting absolutely wrecked simply because you really don’t know what you are up against. 2 days is not enough time to draw balance conclusions, especially after a massive update.
I had reasons:
-balance history was awful pre expansion – hoped expansion would help but it only made it worse
-changes to my class made the only viable spec opposite to what I wanted to play and didn’t like the new elite game play either(played zerker ele for longest time, tempest is dull)
-was getting literally 2 shotted by everything and even if i managed to outplay them the damage was pathetic for zerker build and it took “forever” to kill anything
-making the game buy to win(not pay to win)was last straw, there is no way I’m going to support such business practiceJust to clarify by all gear being non customizable, I meant the stats are the same for every player so I doesn’t matter if you have a legendary weapon or ascended armor.
And are you planing on coming back? Former lol player here, I haven’t check their forum sincrease my departure; hence why I am asking .
Well then gem shop doesn’t have anything to do with it, now does it? You can’t buy actual gear from gem shop, only skins(as far as I know).
Im not sure what your second question is about. If you’re asking about gw then:
I do keep tabs on gw2 forums just in case anet gets new balance team or the only one somehow gets smart. That’s because GW2 pvp had really convenient format, match max 15 min easy to join, short time commitment made it ideal for me.
Else if you were asking abou LoL then I have never played that abomination.

That varies a lot.
At times zero to like a couple games a week.
At times several games a day or just the daily.That’s the problem op. As I see it, MMR is not static. So let’s say this week you played with players whom have the same MMR as you do. Next week, you … brb I’ll finish my paragraph later.
I know that mmr is not static as in that it goes up if you win and goes down if you lose.

The new mmr doesn’t only account for your MMR but also the number of games played in each category. So your MMR might be very high,however because you don’t have a lot of games played (let’s say in unrank); The system will match against folks by factueing all that in.
Op let’s me ask you this question.. how often do you play per week?
That varies a lot.
At times zero to like a couple games a week.
At times several games a day or just the daily.
That’s the problem op. As I see it, MMR is not static. So let’s say this week you played with players whom have the same MMR as you do. Next week, you … brb I’ll finish my paragraph later.

Since when is “All gear in pvp not customizable”? Any gear customization that can be bought from gem shop can be used in pvp. And also before that sentence, I clearly stated that beside skins there is not much a pvper can spend his money/gems on.
On topic of balance/elite specs being relevant to people upgrading/not upgrading. I for one played the game for 2 days after HoT release then uninstalled it. Before that I’ve been playing on and off since beta, mostly pvp(~80%). Seeing state of game after expansion made me quit.
Just to clarify by all gear being non customizable, I meant the stats are the same for every player so I doesn’t matter if you have a legendary weapon or ascended armor.
And are you planing on coming back? Former lol player here, I haven’t check their forum sincrease my departure; hence why I am asking .

1- I can’t believe you actually narrowed down hot sales on f2p accounts?? What about b2p player who upgraded?? The NCSOFT employee at th3 conference said the sales weren’t weak ( that is the amount of b2p + f2p player who upgraded to HOT was invigorating but they still want more f2p to upgrade.
No matter how anyone spins it, it’s clear that NCSoft wants more HoT sales. The OP’s point still remains valid: PvP balance being a mess doesn’t encourage people to spend money on the game.
2- Nope they aren’t. I can tell you chronometer underperformed compared to core mesmers, and core engi is (slightly) that amount to HoT engi and the list goes on… check @ithlewell post.
That makes me laugh and question what game you’re playing. Yes, chronomancer was heavily nerfed, but many of the elite specs are still incredibly strong to the point where playing something that isn’t one of those elite specs puts you at a clear disadvantage.
- Scrapper is beyond broken. Way too much damage and sustain.
- Druid offers too much defense and CC in one package and the HoT pets carry the damage. Something has to give.
- Reaper chill damage is ridiculous (though otherwise Reaper isn’t too bad). It should never be that high for how much they apply it.
- Dragonhunter is overbuffed with poor mechanics, causing it to destroy mediocre players.
- Herald gives revenant numerous “get out of jail free” cards.
3- ok you’re third point doesn’t even make sense. Idk what you are trying to get at, I clearly stated that Anet doesn’t make that much gold because you can convert gold to gems, a system which lol lacks.
Not everyone uses only gold for the gem shop. Many players spend actual money for gems. NCSoft stated that they’re happy with the gem shop revenues, so I don’t see what your point is. Further, ANet stated that people who PvP regularly stick around longer and spend more on the gem shop.
Back to the OP’s original point: Awful balance, particularly from elite specs, does not encourage more sales either through boxes or the gem shop. If making or keeping elite specs so strong was driven by marketing, that decision was extremely short-sighted.
The only way you’ve argued against is to spin words on finance and claim that elite specs aren’t overpowered when it’s clear that the only competitive builds (by a wide margin) use elite specs.

-Now, let me tell what would make a f2p want to upgrade to HoT, having a limited access to the Tp,selling his gear at a 50% discount to a local merchant instead of making profit by selling it to the TP. Not being able to whisper, not being able to glide, only having access to 1 or 2 bag and 1 or 2 bank tabs, and so on. For your average f2p player spvp is NOT EVEN ON THEIR MIND.

3-lastly, another case of reading incomprehension. My point is : because some players can convert their gold to gems; Anet revenues would still be low compared to Lol if both had the same player pool. Hence, they make most of their money with xpac, removing the incentive for f2p players to upgrade would totally hurt them financially. Whereas lol could (if they ever decided to release an xpac, and I know it’s moba but I am using it to make a point) , they could always rely on their money to rp to sustain them. And about NCSOFT being happy with gems to gold revenue, lol which company doesn’t want more profit?? And didn’t you just argued against that statement above?? No problemo. As a tip, stowing your weapon is a great way to bait out dodges from your opponents as well.
For example, Kill Shot (and Gunflame) have fairly obvious animations that a skilled opponent will attempt to dodge. If you start to channel the skill and then stow your weapon before it fires, they’ll generally use a dodge and you’ll still have all of your adrenaline to initiate the burst again.
BTW you are stowing your weapon by swapping right or is there another way to do it?
Maybe I’ve been playing it wrong… But usually with sword gs, don’t people use flurry swap to hb? Don’t see any autos in there…
Flurry swap to hb?? What do you mean I can5 read you there.
Flurry applies a 4s immobilize on the first hit, but the remaining hits just apply some really crappy damage and bleeding (crappy even if someone’s using condi gear).
So the best thing to do is use Flurry for the first hit to apply the Immobilize, and then interrupt the skill so you can do something more useful like a full 100b, or some other burst. The sure-fire way to interrupt Flurry is stowing your weapon, but sometimes just swapping weapons will do it.
