I suppose at least if technological advancement is one of their goals it explains the lack of Sylvari.

But then of course if we’re going through combinations surely the Nightmare Court would be next on the list? But then that seems odd to me, their goal is to ‘revert’ the tree back to a state in which it isn’t affected by Ventari’s teachings, so I can’t see why they would want to support anyone else unless it achieved that.

The thing that I find a little odd is that the Aetherblades launch pad things scream Charr technology to me, yet there’s not really any mention of Charr influence – so perhaps if you’re right about the Molten Alliance having some bearing on all this that would explain partially where that technology comes from?

If they released a mac client that could only be played by people who had purchased the windows version then you would have a lot of people kicking up a stink at it not being available to them – people would rather have something that works ok than nothing at all. My perspective isn’t altered. If I had purchased the game and only played with the OSX client I would still be really happy about it. It works really well. As someone who switches between the OSX client and the Windows client I can honestly say that there isn’t a lot of difference. (I switch depending on what mouse I have access to, but that’s not important xD). The only real issues with the OSX client is that the fans run louder, which isn’t avoidable, and that there are laser hawks – which you can kill. I run it with max settings in both windows and OSX without a problem, I lower the settings if I’m doing something like a JP or dungeon where the extra few FPS make a difference but for the most part there isn’t anything wrong with it.

I bring up my previous experiences with Crossover to show that what we have has actually had a lot of work done on it and works really well. You also have to note that plans change. For all we know everyone who had previously been working on the OSX client has since moved on to another company. When they say that Mike O’Brien (I think it was him anyway) always uses his Macbook that isn’t saying if he was running OSX or Windows on it. What they acknowledged with the comment was the popularity of the hardware and the market that would be opened up. They’ve gone beyond a lot of developers. There are very few MMO’s available on OSX, especially AAA MMO’s so them simply making it available is huge regardless. But yes obviously the lack of communication is problematic.

It’s also worth pointing out that the predominant problem with the OSX client is the launcher not starting up correctly, it’s not a problem I have ever experienced myself and I wouldn’t be surprised if it comes down to something done on the user end, for example incorrect permissions, not running an admin user account, switching between accounts, not exiting the game properly, not shutting down correctly etc. The trading post/gem store issue was fixed promptly and all other issues have been isolated to either one or a select few users.

In all seriousness go look at the PC tech support forum and look for posts with the red dev stamp on them (not the stickied posts). There aren’t all that many, the ones that have had dev responses typically have 5 or to pages, suggesting that they are widespread issues. The dev responses predominantly suggest either performing a client diagnostic, repairing the client, emptying the cache, checking permissions, checking port/firewall permissions and running as admin, none of which are overly technical and are pretty standard tech responses. In OSX the answer to most issues is deleting the Application Support folder, checking permissions, checking ports, running as admin and repairing the client. Short of having a dev post the exact same instructions over and over again I’m not sure what you expect from them?

(Please note none of this is said in an attacking, angry, accusatory or any other sort of negative tone. I know my writing comes across like this because people constantly take it that way, but I’m honestly typing this in a conversational tone and it is intended as open discussion not an attack)

kralkatorrik and joko will be 2 different bits, theyre equally big, joko maybe bigger since we know how to kill him, either use the ultra mega laser used against zhaitan or see if zojja can figure out those power crystal things and hope kralky hasnt removed the wreath, joko on the other hand is different, he’ll be organised, and the fact that he cant be killed… unless maybe we split his body into different pieces and scatter them

I assume you meant Kralk when you said Joko xD? Somehow I don’t think the dragon lazer is our best line of attack against Joko :P.
I definitely agree though, I can see the Kralk storyline being shorter in comparison to the Zhaitain storyline, whereas the Joko stuff I would think would be more akin to the size of the current storyline. That’s just opinion though and I know they’ve said they don’t want to do full sized campaigns so it will be interesting to see how it all pans out/if it does.

Having a seat on the council would give them inside information and access to the council members. Most noticeably if you had a seat on the council you would be able to assassinate and replace the existing council with much greater ease.
But really we don’t know what their motives are. I’m assuming it’s all going to be revealed later and will have something to do with who Scarlet is. There is a story step coming up where we talk to Mai Trin in her jail cell, maybe she’ll reveal part of it to us?

I would think it’s just the first step in a bigger plan, they have the aid of the inquest and there is obviously someone financing them from behind the scenes.

Also side question, correct me if I’m wrong but aren’t all the members of the Aetherblades either Human, Charr, Asura (the Asura are all inquest I think, but they’re still working with them anyway) or Norn? Aka everything except Sylvari?

Well not sure if a ticket will help. Reloaded the client both saving the dat and also not saving it just to be safe. Out of each restart of the client maybe 1 out every 5 times the mouse will work until I close the client. This is not consistent though I have restarted, rebooted and deleted the local.dat file 7 times so far today and can’t play the game. I’ve tried adjusting the mouse sensitivity, changing USB port locations to force re-detection. Tried multiple type of mice from my Logitech M-100 , to a wireless trackball, to a Razor Diamond. View goes erratic no matter which device is used. I have worked on computers for the past 30+ years and never had this much trouble getting a mouse to work. Especially on a Mac which is truly odd. I’m out of ideas gang, sorry if I can’t offer anything more to this.

Not sure if this would have any impact at all, but can you make sure that in the Options menu of GW2 you untick both of the “Mac Beta Mouse” options. I think from memory they’re related to the trackpad, but they could be having some sort of adverse effect.

I’m guessing you’re playing using a desktop rather than a laptop? What happens if you unplug the mouse and start up the client, does the mouse pointer or view move at all? What happens if you plug the mouse in after logging into your character? I don’t suppose you have an apple mouse to try with :S?

Just double checking but you have tried changing the “Tracking Speed” in your OSX system preferences. Another question: Do you have any software installed relating to your mouse?

Sorry for all the questions but unless I know everything I can’t help a whole lot xD.
The one suggestion I can offer:
Open up Finder and click “Go” in the menu.
Hold down option/at on your keyboard and “Library” should appear in the Go menu (you have to do it this way, Library is a hidden folder so you can’t navigate to it on your own or search for it in finder, you will end up in the wrong library if you try).
Inside the Library folder is a folder called Application Support, and inside there is a folder called Guild Wars 2.
Open up the config file inside the Guild Wars 2 folder.
Locate this text string:

[dinput]
; dead zone for joystick input from 0 to 10000. 1000 is 10% of range.
“DefaultDeadZone” = “1000”
“AbsoluteMouseSensitivity” = “1”
; Remap arrow keys to compatible values
“AdjustScanKeys” = “Y”

If any of those values is different to what I’ve posted let me know and then try changing them to what I have here. otherwise I would just suggest playing around with those and seeing if it has any effect. Try the Sensitivity on 0 and then again on 5 and see what the difference between the two it.
If that doesn’t fix the issue you could try increasing and decreasing the dead zone, for example you could try changing it to 500, and then after that increase it to 2000, see what changes that makes. (Only make one change at a time so you can monitor the effect and remember to save after each change).
Let me know if that has any impact at all. Sorry I can’t offer you anything more definitive/if my suggestion is silly, I’m grasping at straws really.

Will the Mac client make it out of beta?

In my opinion they probably should not have created and advertised a Mac client to start with. Since we are such a tiny customer base that they don’t have the resources to support they should have just not produced the product. This would have resulted in 0 frustrated Mac customers that are waiting for at least some information aside from a generic, “No news at this time.”

Even if they came here and said something like, “Sorry no work on the Mac client is being conducted due to such as small customer base. We have no plans to provide support at this time”, some of us would be happy with that just knowing.

Obviously they saw something in such a small customer base or they would not have developed the client in the first place. And yes, I still find it humorous how fast they recognized, communicated and solved the gem store bug for such a small, insignificant customer base that contributes next to nothing to their profits.

This. My friend paid 60 bucks for this game, to play on her mac. It was completely unplayable. No trading post! Among other issues. It absolutely blew me away that they charged her 60 bucks for that garbage. That was in november, nothings changed.

Ive been telling people to stay away from this game since that. A company that would allow that sort of thing to happen isnt one I recommend to friends.

Actually the client has improved a lot since November. If your friend had filed a ticket explaining that they had purchased the game to play on OSX but had found that it really wasn’t operating as expected and wanted a refund they would have gotten one – to my knowledge they were very understanding on issues regarding playability and refunds.

As someone who played using the OSX client since it was released and has never had any major complaints I honestly have to disagree. The trading post experienced a lot of issues at launch, but that was on both windows and OSX, when they got it up and running, and they were undoubtedly working very kitten doing that at the time, it worked just fine and continues to work just fine for most of us.

People who wanted to play GW2 and had Mac’s were using Crossover or Wine (which is effectively what Cider is built on so it was almost the exact same thing), so it was beneficial for them to have a client operating and prevent players from having to purchase Crossover. I have a crossover license, but I had purchased it to play GW1 on my mac a long time ago, so I was able to play GW2 using Crossover – I think to my knowledge Crossover still doesn’t fully support GW2, partly because it was hard for them to fix all the issues (NVIDIA cards experienced a ton of graphical issues, ATI on the other hand worked a treat mostly), and partly because most people switched over to the official client. The people who post on the forums with issues are only part of the OSX GW2 userbase, there are most probably quite a lot of people who play without a hitch and never have any reason to look at the forums or post here.

I for one am extremely glad they decided to have a client made. If you had played using Crossover or Wine then you would understand why, textures ended up half and half and there were mouse problems, texture stretching problems etc etc. The OSX client works well for those who have higher end macs, it’s only when you have people trying to run it on older macs or 13" MBP’s and Air’s (computers that are not designed in any capacity for gaming and would have issues even in windows) that performance issues start to crop up. Aside from the issue with the gem store there aren’t actually any major issues. There is the occasional crashing but I experience in windows anyway so it’s not so much of an issue.

Bump for update

Ok seriously I’m not trying to be rude here but creating your own topic on the issue and bumping two existing topics really isn’t helpful. There are people who have clients that won’t start and having multiple topics sitting here on the same issues doesn’t change anything. Ashley has already seen this topic, which is the longest on the issue, so bumping older ones and making your own isn’t achieving anything except clutter.

Still waiting for an update on this issue.

I would suggest not double posting to bump threads, it just creates clutter for people who are looking for support from broken clients etc. If the devs are looking at these forums then they will already be well aware of requests for updates – if they aren’t then bumping doesn’t achieve anything. We kind of just have to play the waiting game and see what (if anything) happens.

FlamingFoxx.1305

Actually Ashley has given us a couple of small updates within the last few weeks, but yes prior to that the support was all from last year. I wouldn’t expect much from an out of beta client, there aren’t likely to be a lot of alterations since the client actually works really well for the most part. Issues of FPS are restrictions forced on the client by the Cider wrapper so there is little Anet can do about that beyond the optimisation they’ve already done (which has helped immensely). And beyond that most of the issues are confined to a select few users who are generally able to fix the problem by purging the Application Support folder.

Unless they were to actually take on a dedicated mac team I wouldn’t expect massive changed. They’re unlikely to do that because we represent a tiny portion of the user base, it doesn’t make economic sense for them to provide extensive support to what is probably less than 10% (that’s optimistic) of their user base.

I think one of the things I miss most about GW1 is the atmospheric feel of slight despair and immensity that the world conveyed. The world just felt so massive but a lot of it felt really sparse, post searing ascalon for example always felt really somber and creepy. The searing crystal in Pockmark Flats always really intrigued me, it’s so beautiful and massive and the wind riders always kind of terrified me with how fast they float around in packs.

There are a lot of things like this in game though. It gets a bit ridiculous. There must be MASSIVE populations of all creatures in Tyria considering how many we needlessly chop in half/burn to a crisp. I mean, when was the last time killing a Moa was actually necessary xD!

Your back story is brilliantly funny if you played a Sylvari on launch day. There was a gigantic mass of people all doing that event at the same time, we culled a lot of those poor Fireflies and Mosquitoes.

I love the Fervid Censer, it is really beautiful. But I actually use the Sclerite back piece, which is also from Secrets of Southsun. I think it’s kind of cool having tendrils coming out of my Sylvari’s back

I think on a whole the armour, weapons and back pieces need to have a larger amount of racial based designs. As it is if you want something Sylvari-esque you have to have either Cultural armour or Twilight Arbour Armour. If they were to develop racial inspired items that weren’t restricted it would be really great (then you could have Asuran magitech armour on a Sylvari for example).

There are some details about being a playable race:

1. Racial capital (Djinns fail)
2. Racial territory, with villages, outposts (Djinns fail)
3. Citizens and economy (Djinns fail)
4. The armor sets must fit and has to have a beliveable dodge-animation (Djinns and centaurs fail)
5. Has to be a social race that often interacts with others and are capable of grouping up with others, from the race or with anyone (this is where Largos fails – skirmishers, avoiding any attention and contact)
6. Has to be unique (this is where kodans and dwarves fail, being similar to the norns and sharing the same territory – the dwarves by mentality and penchant for beer, also looking like mini-norns with their huge muscles and hairs, and the kodan, where’s even a theory about being from the same race as the norns, also, they’ve lost their homelands and are mostly refugees in high-level zones)

To #1 and 2: The Hidden City of Ahdashim could easily be converted to the Djinn’s racial city. Their outlying territories can all be underground as well or the territory just outside the city (Mirror of Lyss).

To #3: Hidden City of Ahdashim has a TON of gold. They have a golden mountain and grind diamonds, rubies, and sapphires into their food. They are probably the wealthiest race in terms of how much stored gold and precious gem caches hidden around Elona.

I… I really want to be a Djinn now.

That City is Vabbian, used by the Princes as a shelter when Palawa invaded Elona for the first time.

So that’s a human city, where Djinns are slaves who were binded there by powerful humans to guard the treasure.

By economy i meant trading amongst their people and with other races. Not being slaves guarding gold in a human city…

Vabbi was the first one to be devoured by Joko, why could the Djinns take any territory there.. probably Vabbi is still inhabited by humans, because they surrendered, and weren’t wiped out.

After 250 years a lot could have changed. The royal lines have most likely died out during Palawa Joko’s reign and the Djinn could easily be in sole possession of the city now. (I’m not saying it’s likely, just that we have to remember that the passage of time is a factor in all this)

It bugged and wasn’t showing me the right patterns, had to trawl through other peoples videos and try their patterns until it eventually worked -_-
The problem is just 10x worse when there are a lot of people there. Somehow when I got this cache everyone agreed to let one person do the stones and nobody interfered, it was wonderful.

I haven’t made too many mods to my config file, but when I did, the one that caused changes (just after launch of Mac client) was the one in application support. I haven’t really made any attempts to play with the config file located in the package contents.

The thing I am interested in with the config file, is the mouse sensitivity setting, I’m wondering the range of viable values and the differing effects. (I have mouse issues, but only in-game) but I’m more hesitant to mess with it since my Mac client has been so well behaved lately lol.

Yeah editing the config in Application Support seems to work, every time I’ve altered the other one I’ve been met with frequent crashes. I’m never sure if it’s placebo or if it does actually make it crash

Pre Searing Ascalon is probably the most beautiful thing my eyes have ever seen.

It was a perfect color blend of blue, yellow, orange and green (with the occasional marble color for buildings)

Not only was it that bright and shiny scene, but it had it’s smudges. The Catacombs is a big example. Another is the Wizard’s Folly mountain, with the mysterious tower. And it’s those smudges that made Pre Searing Ascalon perfect

I have never, ever seen such a place (in a game) in my life as beautiful as that.

Sadly, they tried to recreate the same setting in the Charr Homelands in EoTN, but it wasn’t as good (I thought it was a pretty bad extension, actually)

Came here to post pretty much this, exactly.

While I believe the Charr homelands weren’t without charm, they simply can’t compare. Still, I find it enchanting that if you tilt your head correctly, and let your eyes space out for a bit, certain parts of GW2’s Ascalonian lands rekindle the magic that was GW1.

….Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m going to go log into GW1 and die horribly because I’m going to be mashing a non-existent dodge key. ;_;

I did this yesterday! I logged into GW1 and just went through tons of different locations for the nostalgia. I kept trying to move during fighting, which as a ritualist was about the most ridiculous thing ever -_-. /jump!

Does anyone know what the various options for MTD3D are? I know it controls multi-threaded OpenGL, but the default is “4”…so what is 0, 1, 2, 3, ….. Incidentally when I set to 0, I still see 6 cores of my 6 core processor loaded up.

Also, FYI, on this system (Mac Pro 3.3 hex core, gtx680), doubling the VertexShaderHash and PixleShaderHash to 600 each, does make a very good performance increase.

You have to keep in mind that there are two identical config files. One is in Application Support and the other is inside the package contents. I’m not entirely sure which one the game pays attention to… I also don’t think changing MTD3D actually does anything. Back when the OSX client was new it was extremely noticeable when they changed MTD3D from 0 to 4 because we all took a huge performance hit, which led me to change it back to 0 and I managed to get back a few FPS and lower the rotation stutter, but since then with a lot of their improvements in optimisation I actually can’t figure out any difference either visually or technologically with changing the MTD3D value. So either it isn’t paying attention to it anymore or it just isn’t noticeable at all?

It is an item through which you focus magical energies. They were called this in GW1, they are called this in GW2. It makes a lot of sense, if we were to have it linguistically correct then you would call the items a focuser, but that sounds ridiculous, so you call it a focus. Focus: " an act of concentrating interest or activity on something", what are you focusing, magic – A focus.

It is a bug. YOu fall back at the start of the puzzle which is expected, from there it would normally ask you which station to teleport to. Instead of that you begin falling again and land at the location below where you were on the puzzle. It thus boots you out of the puzzle and as the OP states you have to start from scratch, very annoying when you’re past the first station.

I’ve ended up on the hills near the Luminates Plant and got to run around places I shouldn’t have had access to. I also landed on the roof of the inquest base, which was a VERY COOL VIEW, but really annoying also xD.

I’m thinking it has something to do with the puzzle not being able to handle remembering that many people’s places or something odd? So it then boots us out?

Anyone else playing on the 2013 Mac Mini?

FlamingFoxx.1305

Hi All,

I’m considering buying a brand new 2013 Mac Mini, using the Intel HD 4000 card, and was curious what gameplay is like? What settings are you currently running the game at if so? I currently have a 2009 27" iMac, that just barely runs the game Mac side, and jumps a slight bit on Bootcamp. I’m not looking to max out everything, as I know the Intel hd 4000 isn’t as powerful a card as others, but would be nice to play at a steady 30fps on low to mid settings. Currently get between 12-25, so I suppose any upgrade at this point is really an improvement.

Thanks in advance.

Technically your 2009 iMac should run the game better than I would expect the mac mini to. The intel graphics cards are crippling for trying to play GW2. Of course I don’t have one so I can’t say for certain what the performance would be like, but I’m quite sure it would be worse than your iMac. With the iMac if you lower the resolution by one option you should actually get pretty decent FPS.

I have removed the .dat, I have twice installed fresh but I still get tgupdate 1.11 every single time I start, I have checked permissions and recurrsively verified.

I do not know what file to edit and append -repair to.

Any help to stop this non-stop “redownloading” would be appreciated!

This is the only place I could find: <key>CedegaGameName</key>
<string>C:\GW2\Gw2.exe</string>
<key>CiderGameOptions</key>
<string>—cmdline “-repair”</string>

<key>TGBundleName</key>
<string>Guild Wars 2</string>
<key>apURL</key>
<string>http://cider.ncplatform.net/Live</string>;

I have done this many times and I still get the issue, can someone simply give me binaries and I will manually update to 1.11 instead of their broken launcher?

I would like to update and I submitted a ticket but whomever is handling my request is certainly not the brightest (or sharpest if that’s your preference) crayon in the box.

Oh, and when I launch, it “updates” and runs, I close and ground hog day all over again. And, I did remember to remove the -repair.

<string>—cmdline “-repair”</string>
You removed that -repair? Cause that will cause it to do that stuff over and over again.
Deleting the Guild Wars 2 folder in the Application Support folder (There are instructions in a lot of posts in this forum section) and making sure that the -repair command isnt in that config file is all I can suggest. (I can’t post instructions right now but I will later if Kylla doesn’t beat me to it

Also I doubt anyone has the binaries for the update.

You have to keep in mind that Maxis is a much larger company with the backing of EA, a very well established developer. They can afford to have a much larger mac team.
It’s also really worth noting that the OSX release of SimCity has been pushed back, suggesting that they’re having issues with it (an looking at the issues they’ve been having even with the Windows version that isn’t surprising).

I’m struggling to think of any other games that are being released with both Windows and OSX versions. The few that do are either much much smaller games or Indie-ish games. Even The Sims 3 is a transgaming port… It’s just not easy for companies to develop games that work in both Direct X and OpenGL, they are two completely different systems and they require a completely different knowledge and skill set.

If you make a backup of the gw2.dat then you can delete the GW2.app and the Guild Wars 2 folder in Application Support and reinstall the client. Then instead of letting it redownload all the game files just put the copy of the gw2.dat you made back into the new gw2.app

Cantha and the next expansion?

I can think of several… But I won’t go there. xP

In any case, I fully expect to see Cantha content at some point, whether through an expansion or through updates and patches over time.
As mentioned previously, I seriously doubt any sort of Kurzik-Luxon warfare going on, as they were both dissolved and absorbed into the Empire. It just wouldn’t make sense, and if they had resurfaced I’m sure there would be word of it somewhere in the game. Maybe they’ll have it resurface just as the expansion/whathaveyou comes out, but I honestly feel like they’d just be rehashing an old idea. And open world PVP based on faction warfare is something I just don’t see ANet doing… Too many people dislike open world PVP, and we already have essentially that in WvW. I don’t think it would be well received.

I would like to see Ritualist or some sort of unarmed martial artist profession come about. I guess we’ll have to wait and see.

They definitely won’t ever implement open world PvP. They THANKFULLY see WvW as a really good format for people who want large scale tactical PvP, too many people loose out in open world PvP, I know some people enjoy it but it just creates too many opportunities for people to be kittenkittens, they definitely won’t do it. I want the ritualist back, I think if they combined elements of the ritualist with a mix of samurai and martial arts it could be really interesting.

I think if they were going to bring up back to Cantha, and I’m sure they will, it would be as an expansion release. Doing it in smaller releases would stunt the content and I can’t think of decent lore based reasons for us to not be able to explore specific areas of a continent that isn’t too large (based on what we saw in GW1, ignoring the fact that the large texture from the .dat shows Cantha extended downwards where the mountain ranges that we could see in GW1 where shown (excite)).

People! Look at your MAP in-game. There are like insane amount of areas that are still blurred off. I doubt they will jump to another continent before going to Cantha!

Did you play GW1… Before Factions, Nightfall and EoTN there were a ton of areas left covered on the map, none of which were ever opened up. Instead we got Cantha, then Elona and then EoTN finally opened up some of the covered areas as well as newer parts of the map.
http://wiki.guildwars.com/images/a/a2/Tyria_clean_map.jpg

There is nothing stopping them form leaving lots of areas covered, they will only open them up if they have story to go there/a reason to go there. I definitely think that some new map areas will be opened up before an expansion, but not a lot.

@Konig Ok I misunderstood the ancient part.

But you misunderstood my point on the Zommoros part. I don’t think Zommoros is comparable to any of the characters you said. Those characters are heroes, they can do things players can do, and some of them can do something extra and have their lore and all, but arguably they’re on the same league than playable characters.

Zommoros is not a regular merchant with lots of resources. Evon Gnashblade is a merchant with lots of resources, but as an individual he would be on the same power league than any playable character.

Zommoros runs the mystic forge. That it’s a forge (a mystic one) means that Zommoros creates all those exotics and legendary items. There is nothing that points to Zommoros being more powerful than any other Djinn, yet he has the power to create the most unique and powerful items in the whole game, basically because he is a Djinn.

If suddenly you make being a Djinn the most common thing in the world (by allowing every player the ability to create one), it doesn’t make sense that Zommoros can create legendary weapons and infuse equipment but playable Djinn can’t. If Zommoros has that power level being a Djinn, other Djinn should have comparable power which would put them leagues above the playable human races.

As I said, what I could see is a race derivated from them, maybe created by them, being playable with abilities reminiscent of Djinns. But Djinns perse are a long shot due to the rach of their powers given how Zommoros can create the most powerful items in the world or the ability to fly among other things.

There was some interesting dialogue, it might have been from the Lot Shores, but I feel like it revealed some of the stuff behind what Zommorros does/how. But for all we know he simply has access to a gigantic magical Djinn cache of items. It’s also possible that it is his being fused with the forge that allows him to do that..

Queen Jenna is a queen, she has power of an ENTIRE CITY. Obviously that makes humans too powerful to play, because she is indicative of all humans, they must all have their own cities to rule over!

Actually couldn’t The Hidden City of Ahdashim technically be used as a Djinn city?
And I would think the main issue with having Djinn playable would be their inability to wear any of the current clothing. Djinn are semi-transparent/translucent and they have 4 arms… All existing armour would look ridiculous on them >.>

Personally I’m fine with beta. It works for the most part. I would appreciate it if they did at least let us know what was going on, good or bad. It’s the absolute lack of information that bothers me.

I am not fine with it…I am happy I don t have to boot into windows tho but I still can t buy gems via the Trading post and instead I have to drive to bestbuy or Gamestop to buy cards.

If you have windows then you can just boot into that, and you at least have the option of driving to a store to purchase the cards.
Try living in a country that is often neglected by gaming, electronics and technology companies where you can’t just drive to the store to buy that kind of thing…. (I do have bootcamp so it’s not like I would be at a loss, but I’m just trying to point out that when you have other options it’s a little ridiculous to treat it as if it is the be all and end all). The trading post and gem store do not make the game.

this is on the 11inch i7 Macbook Air 2013 w/ the HD5000 haswell chip.

I love it. I’m getting around 20-30fps with some relatively high settings at the machines native resolution. Still slows down a bit in LA when around a lot of ppl and at world bosses like the fire elemental and jorlag, but even my i7 3770k desktop rig doesn’t like those fights when I’m pushing the settings…

this is an amazing little computer.

Those colours are really really dull O_o.

This is the only screenshot I could find where I had left the UI in, but just look at the colour of my fire skill icons compared to yours.

I had the same exact problem, I found a fix while being super fustrated and just clicking random stuff. Just right click Guildwars2.app > show package content > MacOS > cider, this should open terminal and the client.

I wouldn’t have thought that bypasses the issue where the buttons and text don’t show up on the launcher?

I actually quite enjoyed Ghosts of Ascalon. There were a few bits that felt, well, scripted, but that was more due to the book’s purpose than a deficiency of the author. Edge of Destiny, though… the writing was mediocre enough, but the evidence that King wasn’t familiar with the Guild Wars universe was plentiful and sundry.

Agreed. It tended to be most evident in small details as well. I found myself cringing a few times. Ghosts of Ascalon definitely was better. It felt like a story, whereas Edge of Destiny felt like somebody trying to take an established part of lore and convert it into a story. It does not help that Logan Thackeray is just a shockingly awful character. How on earth is that descended from the amazingness that is Gwen and Kieran.

I will be happy to read it because it’s written by Ree and should therefore be a mile better than the mess that was the other two books. (Sorry, but they were rather mediocre in terms of writing, they luckily had a very good world to draw from and decent enough plots to be somewhat entertaining). But yeah, not quite the right forum for this so it might get moved to general discussion at some point.

I wonder if her name is supposed to be a reference to led zeppelin’s song “Kashmir”

“..All will be revealed…”

And side note: the song contains a number of middle eastern techniques so could this be a very, very hidden message that we can expect to return to elona. Probably not, but it is still fun to imagine.

Well her name is a warped version of cashmere, a luxury fabric. It’s sort of a pun on the fact that she is a noble…

A-net confirmed that the sylvari are the Pale Trees verion of humans due to her experience with humans. But your probably right about not being a result of planted on the graves since they also confirmed that she only saw the outside of humanity.

Do you have a source for that… I’m pretty sure they didn’t say anything of the sort but I am happy to be proven wrong. I think Ree may have said that they MIGHT have been that, but that their true origins and the reasons behind their appearance were unknown.

Kingdoms of amalur came out AFTER the sylvari I redesign had been released, neither of them copied the other, both games will have been in development for years.
As the person above me suggests they both follow pretty conventional tree-folk/fae designs.

The fae in KoA are really really ugly though if you ask me. The Sylvari on the other hand are gorgeous.

Well that face is available to PCs… and you don’t really see NPCs with that mushroom head hair so I doubt it has much lore significance.

You do see NPCs with e mushroom head hair, just not many. It’s irrelevant though.

Is there a reason for this?

There is also this thing where if you take falling damage and then immediately go down any sort of slant or stairs, then you will constantly take major damage no matter how short the fall was. I jumped onto a set of stairs today and as I ran down each step, I continually took on a ton of damage until I reached the bottom step :s (I did not fall down the stairs, I ran)

Ahh, I can make sense of that. The game is treating it as a tumble, if for example you started falling down a cliff face and you hit the slant of it and kept sliding down you would take damage with each new hit. So it’s pretty much treating it as if you’re tumbling down the stairs :P

It took YEARS before Guild Wars 1 had a trial, and I hope it’s years before GW2 does. Unfortunately having free trials gets you a lot of bots in the game and even with preventative measures they still manage to kitten things up, they use program’s that allow them to not play by the rules, how else do your explain their ability to transport magically between resource nodes and enemies.

The game is not expensive and it doesn’t have a subscription fee, they can get a good feel of the game from videos, screenshots and blog posts.

Is there a reason for this?

I think there are just some areas where something isn’t scripted properly, report it as a bug and hopefully they will fix it.
There is an area in LA near the Mia racing where you walk over a patch of ground and take fall damage that’s almost half your health – definitely, not intended xD

Actually upgrading your RAM will have little effect. Guild wars is only 32 bit. It can’t use more than 3GB, increasing your ram would let you do other things at the same time, but the effect on GW would be neglegible

What's up with the shattered hedge?

I’m just going to copy paste from the wiki because I’m feeling lazy. Basically, it is the Inquests new version of the Thaumanova Reactor Core.

“Thaumanova Reactor is the location of a ruined asuran city in northwest Metrica Province. It was recently destroyed by an Inquest experiment gone awry, occurring beneath the city and the reactor exploding and subsequently releasing chaos magic. Due to the large amount of chaos magic in the area, creatures from across the continent get transported in and out of the area. The Thaumanova Reactor is divided into five main sections: the southwest which has been turned arctic, the southeast which has become poisonous, the northeast and lower area containing the river with an aquatic aspect, the north which contains fire-based creatures, and the central, the location of the explosion. After the explosion, the energy source that the Inquest was experimenting on was moved to the Thaumacore Inquiry Center in Toxal Bog, causing the chaos effect to spread northward. This effects of the underground experiment also affected other areas such as Chaos Crystal Cavern in Iron Marches.”

^— It’s this last bit here that talks about what’s going on around the shattered henge.

Could some of you please leave the imaginary bubble you are living in and rethink the race question? (about what’s going to be playable)

Skritt, quaggan, hylek, grawl, these are called LESSER RACES. You can choose a racial intrest towards one of them in the personal story, eliminating any chances to be playable.

Quaggan thief? Nice joke.

The ONLY race that has chances atm is the Tengu. And you can take it for granted that they will be the next.

Kodan is a small maybe.. maybe 1% chance.

Thank you!!!!! It’s getting really frustrating seeing people be completely illogical about the whole race issue.
If I see another person say that Centaurs and Quaggan are definitely going to be playable I am going to poke myself in the eye

Even the Tengu present issues though, they have beaks instead of mouths and as we’ve see in Personal Story dialogue pieces that does not lend itself to convincing ‘speaking’. My memory could be wrong, but I seem to remember the Tengu’s beak hardly even moving in conjunction with the voice acting – obviously that’s something they could address if they decided to make them playable, but it’s worth considering.

-edit- Around 9:40 in this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uG83Hk5kyr0
The Tengu’s beak does go up and down with the dialogue, but as I said, it isn’t very convincing. They also don’t lend themselves well to facial emotion – something that all of the current races are very capable of (I mean yes the Charr look angry most of the time, but they do still have relatively diverse expressions).
