There will also not be open world PvP. It’s called WvW. There is a reason there isn’t open world PvP in the game already, it is not conducive to social play and grieving can be a massive problem. WvW IS open world PvP in an environment designed specifically for it. Go play WvW.

It seems so. I wish we could get that too, it would eliminate us having to repost the same things over and over (if it was stickied, we could just use a link that never gets old and never dies lol).

We do have a lot of people who end up in the wrong application support folder due to the hidden library thing and not being able to alt/option + click things (that’s why I post the one with photos), it does seem confusing to a person if they aren’t too familiar… I tested it on a fairly computer illiterate friend lol. She wouldn’t even let me talk when I sent her the link with pictures so she could do it right without needing her hubs. So it seems so. Maybe you could make a photo to post. We could start a troubleshooting thread with photos to help others. What do you think?

It would be good if we could. I tried that last year, the problem is that the post goes down the page. You post a link to it when people create new topics, and they thank you in the topic they created – rather than the topic with the instructions. So it all just gets lost unless you bump it yourself :S
But since there are more of us here now whereas at other times it’s been just one person we could probably manage it.

(sidenote: I just about had a heart attack when I saw that a mod had posted in these forums. Here’s hoping things start to change for the better now. crosses fingers)

They wont extend the availability just because mac users are unable to purchase it. We’re a very small portion of the player base and they’ve been rather adamant about not extending the time on anything. The only exception was the Southsun scavenger hunt which was extended by a day because the entire thing was so full of bugs it wasn’t funny.

The Dream exists independent of the Pale Tree, and supposedly predates the Pale Tree too. The White Stag, for instance, has direct access to the Dream of Dreams just like the Pale Tree does. And the Pale Tree is mentioned to be the Dream’s caretaker, unknowing of the Dream’s origins which implies that she herself merely found the Dream of Dreams and tasked herself with the caretaker charge.

@FlamingFoxx: During the Cathedral of Silence story step, Priestess Rhia (sp?) mentions that the gods’ location is unknown, but it is known that they are no longer in the Mists – which is where their realms reside. So it is far more likely that they are on a world somewhere, rather than their realms.

So Kormir fixed up Abbadons old realm and then just left. Sounds ridiculous but I’ll take your word for it, she never was the brightest cookie.

I personally don’t think Melandru would merge with the Pale Tree because that would actually put her in danger. The Sylvari are immune to dragon corruption, but that doesn’t mean the Pale Tree couldn’t be destroyed by the dragons or their minions, and if Melandru had joined with the Pale Tree she wouldn’t be very safe.
I think it’s just far more likely that they’ve gone into their own realms.

Most likely not. We know of at least one other Pale Tree that exists somewhere else in the Maguuma and the Sylvari from that tree look exactly like ours. So we can assume that the Sylvari’s appearance has nothing to do with Ronan or where our tree was planted

Client crashes in WvW since last patch

in Account & Technical Support

FlamingFoxx.1305

From what I’ve observed it’s a crash caused by a system bottleneck, which would be why it happens during large events and in WvW. Your system is trying render a whole lot of characters at once and it struggles with it – so it crashes. Can I suggest making sure you have both the WvW settings as low as possible (by default they aren’t quite as low as they can be), obviously that’s not ideal, but as a temporary fix it’s your best option.

If you’re playing on a laptop try elevating it off a surface like a desk and instead having it on a stand, keeping the laptop cooler will actually help a bit. Unfortunately at the moment we just have to deal with this

To those who are still having issues: Have you tried deleting the Guild Wars 2 folder in Application Support yet? That should always be your first action when facing an issue with the GW2 client.

(If you haven’t:
Open up Finder
Go to your user directory (your username, which is usually your first name)
Click ‘Go’ in the menu bar and then hold down the option key
‘Library’ should appear while you hold down option (and only while you hold it down)
Click Library
Inside the Library find a folder called ‘Application Support’
Inside there find the folder called ‘Guild Wars 2’ and delete it.
Restart your computer and then start up the Guild Wars 2 client, the client should patch itself (usually an 8 file patch) and then hopefully the game will work.

The game runs incredibly well in bootcamp of course.

Define incredibly well in terms of FPS on best performance settings Also state what processor and RAM you have please.

All settings on max with Native sampling and I get 30-40FPS. Which for a laptop that isn’t designed for gaming is pretty amazing and it’s smooth enough that I don’t notice any stutter. Of course in highly populated areas and during events the FPS goes down to 20-25. Lowering the Shader and Shadows a bit increases FPS up to 50.

PS3 controllers are supported by Mountain Lion, but you’ll need to find a program that will let you map the buttons to keys. Google is your friend for that

As Kylla has said though, the amount of buttons on a controller isn’t going to give you very good functionality. It will be fine for running around and casting I would think, but you’re going to run into trouble trying to use the UI elements like the inventory.

Large Player Groups ever possible?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: FlamingFoxx.1305

FlamingFoxx.1305

They’re stated that they didn’t want it to be any more than 5.
In Guild Wars 1 the maximum party size was 8, so they obviously thought about it a lot when deciding on 5 for GW2.

I think one of the biggest concerns is screen space. If you had more than 5 people in a party it would start to take up a lot of screen space, it’s already relatively hard to figure out who is who in the party UI, adding more people would make it even harder.

Also you have to consider that the dungeons are all made for 5 people so they’re unlikely to increase the party size even just in PvE because it would produce inconsistencies and balance issues.

I’m not a big WvWer so I don’t know how squads work and can’t really comment on wether or not that would be viable for PvE. If Squads just creates sort of a new chat channel without adding anything to the UI then I could see it working, but then you can just use Guild Chat.

How to Fix the Living Story in Guild Wars 2!

Don’t post an 8 minute video as the content of your forum post. People aren’t willing to read more than 3 paragraphs of writing, NOBODY wants to sit through 8 minutes of video to try and understand what you’re trying to say >.<.

Going off what I can grasp:
To me I think a living breathing world would actually be better achieved through lots of small changes. People want to be able to play content their own way and go through the storyline without feeling as if temporary content is interrupting them or preventing them from doing so. So I think having more permanent story content and then expanding on the open world to make it feel more alive would accomplish this better.
As it stands mobs are probably a bit too static, I know there are some NPC’s who patrol, but as a whole there isn’t all that much movement. You don’t notice it too much because the enemies are well placed, but I think having them roam more would make the world feel more real. Adding in herds of Moa that travel around in a pack (GW1 actually had this in one area) for example.
Dynamic Events are actually a really good step towards a living world, but there need to be more in a zone to remove their repetitiveness for them to really be effective.
I’m sure I could think of more but that’s enough for now >.<

Are you sure you’re deleting the correct folder.
Go to your user directory
Hold down Alt/Option and click “Go” in the menu bar, there should be a “Library” option, it will only show up while you’re holding Alt.
Inside the Library go into the Application Support Folder
Then inside that folder will be a Guild Wars 2 folder, delete it and restart your computer.
Then try restarting the GW2 client and leave it for an hour.

Also, ignore the gamma. The GW2 client changes the gamma (I think it depends what you have the gamma set to in the GW2 Options menu) so you will notice it flick between the GW2 gamma and your screen’s gamma, that’s normal.

I’m having the same issue but I cannot even find the GW2 folder in the Application Support.

You’re in the System Library, rather than your user library which is why you can’t see it…
Open Finder and in the left hand column click your username (Finder should actually load this folder by default, but just in case it doesn’t), it’s usually your first name. Then hold down Alt + Click “Go” in the menu bar at the top of the screen. In the drop down menu (still holding down alt) there should be a Library option.
I’m not sure but your account might need to be administrator? I wouldn’t know since my account is the only account on my computer and it is admin.

Alternatively, if that takes you to the exact same folder try opening Finder, then clicking “Go” in the menu bar. Then click “Go to folder” which will bring up a dialogue box.
Inside the dialogue box type “~/library/” (Without the quotation marks), that should take you to your user library, then go into application support and find the GW2 folder.

Heroes for Dungeons only

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: FlamingFoxx.1305

FlamingFoxx.1305

They could probably do it for Henchmen/Heroes without too much difficulty for story mode dungeons since they all have NPCs in there anyway. Mercenaries, like we had in GW1 might be a little more problematic. I forget how old GW1 was by the time we got mercenaries, but it was a good few years, so I wouldn’t be looking for them anytime soon.

7 years…

I think it’s more difficult than you think. NPC’s in dungeons are relatively useless and die very easily. It would be very difficult for them to code Hero UI that worked well with the game and wasn’t coded to just magically avoid anything. There are a TON of 1-hit K.O attacks performed by bosses in dungeons, if you don’t dodge them you die. It would be a bit ridiculous if you could take heroes because they would either be coded to always dodge these attacks or they would die very very quickly and then you would die. It’s not as feasible as you think. In GW1 it was very feasible because it was a stationary spell casting game.

The living story is something that hasn’t really been tried before and it was an innovative new idea that shock horror – they have now tried. I wouldn’t be surprised if they drop the mode now because they’ve found out that it doesnt work, and if they do decide to keep going with living story content you can bet they will have at least learnt from some of their mistakes.

I think it’s quite likely that the Crystal Desert will be opened up soon, it is one of the few areas that has actually received little hints and if you pay attention to some of the things going on in game it’s quite possible that we’re going to be facing Kralk next.

I think the Druids are a better possible origin for the Sylvari then the Forgotten. We know they’re ancient (at least by human standards seeing as how they were once human) and their ruins/remains are all over Maguuma (you see alot more of them in GW1).

Therein lies the problem. You’ve said that they druids are ancient, but then pointed out that they’re ancient by human standards. Humans are a relatively new race to the continent of Tyria, they are by no means ancient, especially when you compare them to the forgotten.

Well, since the Nightmare Court Sylvaris are born from the Pale Tree just as the regular Sylvari, it means all Sylvari are Mordremoth’s minions. The Nightmare Court probably just answered to their real master, Mordremoth, and regular Sylvari and the Pale Tree were heavily influenced by Ventari’s Tablet that preached for peace&love, which would be the reason why they are “good”. Just my 0.02$

I’m sorry but NO….
Sons of Svanir follow Jormag, but that does not make all Norn minions of Jormag – quite the opposite.
There is a difference between something that is a minion and something that simply follows a dragon. Sylvari are not minions of a dragon, they’re a sentient playable race, it wouldn’t make any logical sense.
It is POSSIBLE that the Nightmare Court follow Mordremoth, but if they do then they do so unknowingly, it doesn’t extend to all Sylvari though..

I’ve even run it while having photoshop cs6, dream weaver and illustrator going, plus a safari browser window with 5-10 tabs and was still functional… Though not recommended. But yeah, it just seems this thing doesn’t really know how to manage multiple cores very well. But it’s playable.

That’s because it doesn’t manage multiple cores at all >.<. Pretty sure it is a single core program (party because it can only emulate 32 bit windows).
You said your computer has 8GB RAM I believe? That explains you be able to run so many things at once (partly). GW2 is 32bit and so can’t make use of more than 3GB of RAM, so you have 5GB of RAM that is free for use by the system/other programs.

Ok, unfortunately the dx9single command is not a fix for the CPU issues. I’ve checked and my own CPU usage for GW2’s launcher is only 14% regardless. Is this possibly a NVIDIA specific issue? Can others check the CPU usage and their graphics cards?

I’m absolutely ecstatic that the hawk bug has finally been acknowledged. That is a huge step forward for us (sadly).

As far as the rest of the recent posts, I think some of it is completely missing the point. The main problem here is that by calling this a beta instead of continuing with their unofficial sanctioning of using WINE they have taken the responsibility of supporting the product. At the moment it is somewhat unclear where you get the support (sidenote, my experiences with support for general game things has been positive). Not only is finding the support a bit convoluted (i.e. listing this as a place for support when it isn’t) but it is still extremely Windows centric.

Essentially, they either need to commit to supporting this beta or rename it hobby or something else that makes it clear what it is.

D:!!! Where was the Hawk bug acknowledged! I’ve been petrified by the weird hawks with their radiating beams of light! :P

The 100% usage on the updater is actually a known issue with Wine as well, (Cider is built on Wine or something like that, so it’s pretty much the same thing, the difference being that Wine is OpenSource and Cider is managed by a company -transgaming-)
Since nobody on Wine really paid attention to it or tried to fix it I don’t think there is much we forum users can do. The people on the Wine site are well versed in Wine wrappers and most certainly know more about how it all runs >.>

The one thing I did notice is that running GW2 with a -dx9single command seems to reduce the CPU usage of the updater. I’ll let you know how it works IN game and see if that actually fixes any performance issues.

Oh yeah, with the same file, there is also a video ram tweak that could be adjusted. It’s set really low by default.

I’m unsure about the video ram tweak, I’m pretty sure it doesn’t actually do anything :S
It’s set to 256 which is what OP has, so putting it higher would NOT be advisable xD. Also there are video ram settings both in the Application Support folder and in the actual apps contents folder, which begs the question of which one does the game pay attention to? I changed the one in the contents folder without issue to 512, but when I changed the application support one my game crashed and I panicked and changed it back >.>. I’m pretty sure neither of them actually change the load on the graphics card unfortunately.

The chances of a native client are very low.
I’m pretty sure it’s your graphics card, I remember (and have doubled checked) people having issues with your graphics card and GW2 at launch.

The one suggestion I can offer you is editing the MTD3D settings (actually everyone could do this, it improves performance a lot, I had completely forgotten about it >.>)

Open up Finder and navigate to your user folder
Hold down the Option key and click ‘Go’ in the menu bar, A ‘Library’ option should appear (it will only show when you hold down option)
Library>>Application Support>>Guild Wars 2>>
In there is a file called ‘config’, duplicate that file and edit the duplicated version so it is called ‘config.copy’, then if anything goes wrong you just remove the .copy part of the files name to revert the settings.
Open up the config file and press Command+F to do a search
In the search field type MTD3D, this should take you to a line that reads:
“MTD3D” = “4” (If it doesn’t say 4 then can you let me know what it DOES say? I only know it used to say 4)
Remove the 4 and put a 0 in it’s place. Save the file.
Restart your computer (just to make sure) and then relaunch GW2. Let me know if that has an impact at all. If I recall correctly MTD3D = 4 ended up being quite resource heavy and had a rather negative impact on framerate. I changed mine to 0 a LONG time ago and have since forgotten about it. I’ve done screenshot comparisons and it doesn’t have any discernible impact on how the game looks, even though that is what it is meant to do…

(Also Kylla, there never actually was proper support on these forums. If you look back through the forums you’ll notice that I actually used to do a lot of the ‘support’ in a similar fashion to what you’re doing now. -sadface-)
