Wow, you’re getting far better results than I would have expected on a MBA, so I guess that’s good news for anyone planning on buying a new MBA.

Small tip. If you’ve tried the -repair command then it probably isn’t a problem with the .dat file (the 17ish GB file that contains GW2) so you can actually make a copy of that file to avoid having to completely reinstall while you try and figure out a solution.
If you want to make a backup of your .dat file open your applications folder.
Right click ‘Guild Wars 2’
Click ‘Show Package Contents’
Contents>>Resources>>transgaming>>c_drive>>GW2>>
Then copy ‘GW2.dat’ to your desktop. To put it back you just follow the same instructions. That way you can uninstall and reinstall without having to redownload all 17GB of content.
Consoles are becoming more advanced but until they add the ability to upgrade them yourself like a PC, they will never keep up. Also console developers like Sony and Microsoft will never make that an option simply because of the price they’re now able to charge for the new consoles. The hype for a new console allows them to charge such a high price which wouldn’t be possible if they were just running off upgrading, not to mention other companies manufacturing parts and selling them cheaper.
Actually the reason you can’t upgrade consoles yourself is because it causes fragmentation and support issues.
With consoles having standardised specs it is 100% guaranteed that all the games on the system will run exactly the same for everybody. That is EXTREMELY admirable to me. Just look at how fragmented the PC marketplace is in terms of peoples specs, this is why games have so many settings and why people feel the need to constantly buy new computers or upgrade their computers. At least consoles deter that and ensure everyones system has a specific amount of life to it.
MMO’s on console is something that only works in specific situations, with GW2’s controls I really don’t see it working very well. You also have to keep in mind that both Xbox One and PS4 require users to pay a fee to use multiplayer/online content. Why would Anet release it on a system where people are effectively paying to play but they aren’t getting money – that would be bizarre.
<3. I have a feeling this will be part of the storyline aspect to the event.
Can’t recall what day the story starts though.

Can you run GW2 and just leave the window open for 10-20 minutes, it’s possible it’s trying to update the client but isn’t displaying the files?
Also, when you deleted the GW2 Application Support program and then restarted GW2, did it load and then restart itself and THEN bring up the unloading bar with 100% (like in your SS) or did it just straight away not load anything?
Honestly I would advise against doing this unless you’re comfortable messing with the Terminal Console and have some clue what it’s actually doing.
It goes without saying that if you don’t know what something is doing to your computer and how to fix it if something goes wrong then it’s safer to leave things as they were intended to be.
On a more positive note, OSX Mavericks which will be released later this year contains updates to OpenGL and has significant improvements in how OSX handles RAM, so when that hits the GW2 client should hopefully run much better.
Wouldn’t be the first time they’ve done such, I believe – certainly not where they’ve went and retroactively upgraded old models (the Losaru centaurs in GW1 originally looked akin to the Maguuma or Shiverpeak centaurs (forget which, may have been unique models with same design), but with Nightfall they were “updated” to have the commonplace Elonian centaur models.
How did I not notice that their design was changed
I <3’d the Losaru the first time I saw them. My memory is quite possibly entirely wrong but I feel like I remember them having a unique texture and they were sort of Zebra patterned or something. That’s depressing that they changed the model with NF’s release -_-
I think we would have hard if Anet were going to be at E3.
As far as I’m aware they’ve only ever attended PAX, so possibly they aren’t allowed to attend both? I wouldn’t know.
But yeah, no E3 I don’t think.
I have to add to this that it isn’t the individual respawn times that are a problem, it is the games lack of awareness concerning proximity and the respawning of multiple enemies. (As evidenced by your issue)
If there is one enemy and I kill it in order to access a Vista or SP then it’s FINE. But the second there are multiple enemies in very close proximity it becomes problematic. Unless I managed to kill them all at the exact same time the respawn rates becomes uneven and it means you end up in an annoying loop where as soon as you’ve finished killing one the other respawns.
As OP has pointed out this is ESPECIALLY problematic when there is a combination of Vet/Champ and regular mobs. Vet’s take longer to kill and by the time you’ve killed the Vet and started to commune or gather or whatever the regular mobs have respawned and ruin everything -_-.
I don’t think the answer is to increase spawn times, but instead to give the game some kind of spawn cluster awareness.
It is particularly wonderful.
I think it’s especially noticeable since we’re using Laptops. You would never expect to get such amazing performance while gaming at max settings on a laptop, but they’re managed to make it a really enjoyable experience.
(Bet it’s AMAZING on an iMac, unfortunately mine is an old core 2 duo iMac so I’ll stick to my MBP xD)
The last past few patches have made rather drastic improvements to the games optimisation. Although I would be surprised if you were actually consistently getting that FPS :O. I currently get around 26-40 with settings on high using the mac client, whereas when it was first released max settings put me down to about 10.
Of course on windows the jump has been from 16-20 up to 40.
I like the combat how it is. It’s a good mixture of tab target and action based combat.
In games like Tera you loose out on a lot of social elements and it becomes really frustrating every time you want to use a UI element.
GW2 enables you to fight and type at the same time very easily and is still actiony enough to be really really fun.
We’ll probably all get a free BL key. If that happened a would laugh my face off.
But no seriously, I think they will continue the GW1 tradition of birthday mini’s. They would be insane not to
What would the point of this be?
You’re asking them to build a massive amount of content that will essentially exist for roleplayers to sit around in while NPC’s use the /bow command… Sounds insanely pointless O_o.
Actually that’s using a relatively small amount.
There are a couple of VERY important things to point out here, the first is that it is not a 64bit program (note how other things in your list have (64 bit) next to them but Google Chrome and GW2 don’t). This means that it takes up a lot more resources for the computer to run, it’s why Google Chrome is such a massive resource hog.
Second important thing: You’re running Google Chrome at the same time. As I’ve just said, Google Chrome is a massive resource hog. Quit GC, it will put less strain on the system. In fact quit anything that isn’t GW2… You should never be running other programs (including all that stuff in your menu bar) while trying to play a game, you’ll create a massive bottleneck on the system.
Third, and most important thing: GW2 is a Cider port – it isn’t running natively on your system and is instead being run through a Cider wrapper – that means your computer is having to run the cider wrapper, and then try and run GW2 inside of that. That means a whole lot of things – like running a game designed with DirectX graphics on a system that can only use OpenGL.
(Also, GW2 will run the fans quite high when using the OSX client no matter what really… I have a high spec’d MBP and the only time the fans aren’t loud is when I turn the graphics down to low… But I play with max graphics so yeah.. xD)
(Having your sound turned up that loudly might also have an impact – this might just be me being crazy, but I always feel like the higher up I turn the sound the louder the fans run – possibly just my brain not coping well with all the excess noise and imagining it through)
Hope that sheds some light on the situation for you? But seriously, quitting all those other programs will help a lot.
^— It’s much more likely to be that they had to re-use models because they couldn’t justify creating a brand new model just for one creature for halloween (believe it or not there is actually a lot of effort and human resources that goes into modelling, animating and texturing a creature). If/When Gargoyles are reintroduced in a more substantial way I am sure they will develop a more fitting model.
^— lol, GW2’s UI is far less cluttered than almost every single MMO out there.
I kind of agree with the idea of being able to make the UI smaller. I have a 1680×1050 screen and the UI still feels just a little too big on it’s smallest setting.
But considering how mangled the Trading Post text is on the smallest UI setting….
To OP, your screen is quite small which is why the Chat Box won’t go all the way down. You might find this more annoying, or it might work better for you, but you can actually drag it and swap it’s position with the Party UI.
Errrrr, I’m sorry but I think the downscaling actually works really well as it is. A level 80 in Queensdale can still be killed pretty easily by regular mobs. The only instance where it can become remotely problematic is in events with a lot of people of very diverse levels, because yes the level 80’s are more durable in this instance. But even then the scaling works well and the duration of the events last longer, so it isn’t as if level 80’s ruin the content or completely steamroll enemies. It’s not broken, please don’t fix it
No thanks. This brings in a whole slew of balance issues and it would be classified as griefing. How could it possibly be a good idea to let players who are very familiar with the systems be boss creatures against brand new players for example?
They won’t implement this for the same reason that we don’t have open world PvP. If you want to play against other players go play PvP or WvW. PvE is meant to be strictly PvE and exists for players who don’t want their game ruined by some kitten.
-snip-
Oh please don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying we aren’t ever going to Cantha or Elona. I’m just saying that we’re more likely to deal with an Elder Dragon that is ON the continent of Tyria before we go visiting Elona or Cantha. GW2’s map covers roughly the same areas as the EoTN map yet a lot of it isn’t yet explorable. We’re more likely to expand up into northern Tyria to places already on the map before we go to Elona or Cantha. Also, moving to Elona or Cantha would still either stick of Destiny’s Edge or it would establish a new set of heroes, they aren’t going to bring Rox and Braham to Cantha for no reason at all..
If I remember correctly from when the OSX Beta was first released there were actually quite a few people who had issues with the Intel HD 4000 graphics card.
I don’t -think- that the issue will be fixable using the application support folder fix. But please do try it (Kylla has the instructions above) in case it works.
Can I suggest that next time you see this happening you fiddle with the graphics settings and see if it goes away. It is possible that the shader or post processing effects settings will affect this (before the OSX client was released and people were using Wine to play changing the shader settings often fixed issues like this).
LMAO. So it would be too repetitive to have Destiny’s Edge fight all the ED’s. But it isn’t too repetitive for you to do so?
They aren’t going to bring in another group when DE has already had so much setup and reason for them fighting the ED’s.
In Factions it worked because we had gone off into a strange new land. The enemies in Factions were not enemies to Devona and co (or at least they didn’t know they were). But note how Devona and co came back for Nightfall where we were fighting a fallen god who threatened the entire world…
In GW2 we are still on the continent of Tyria and Destiny’s Edge formed with the purpose of taking down the Elder Dragons and their Champions. Arenanet would be imbeciles to drop them as main characters because it wouldn’t make sense story-wise to say ‘hey look at these heroes who have banded together to try and do everything they can to save the world. Oh sorry, they’re not really trying anymore’. Yes you could argue that they were disbanded for much of the GW2 storyline, but they were still connected to one another through the storyline and still all trying to deal with the dragons in some way.
Yup, I have skills 1-5 as 1-5. Then Skills 6-0 are F1-F5, with Profession specific mechanics (like attunement switching on Ele) as Shift+1,2,3,4.
Hopefully that kind of setup would work for you? It’s actually very easy and because you’re operating in rows of 5 it isn’t confusing for your hands.
I understand not wanting to rebind to Letter keys though, that just gets very confusing >.>
I think it’s also important to point out that the Mursaat used Spectral Agony and what we have in GW2 is just Agony. Yes it functions in much the same way, but the key word is agony, what is agony – excruciating pain. Spectral Agony I definitely think is something specific to the Mursaat (although if the Mursaat return Anet will probably use the exact same Agony mechanics for Spectral Agony which will be a bit -_-).
Errrrm, except in GW2 the main and most important reason Destiny’s Edge has 5 members is because there are 5 races (and also because mechanics-wise the maximum party size is 5).
Also I don’t think you go and completely disregard Destiny’s Edge after having an entire game which establishes them. The new characters are just that, new characters, I honestly don’t think we’re going to see them all band together into a new group of heroes. A couple of them might work together sure, but that is likely to be in these smaller story elements like the living story.
As for an elder dragon crashing the festival…. I don’t think it’s likely, considering the size and location of the elder dragons left. But I definitely think some of their minions could gate-crash (although even that I wouldn’t think is all too likely). If the thing Anet has alluded to has something to do with the dragons I would think the most you could hope for would be a Dragon Champion (which would still be cool).
(Also any future groups of heroes they create would definitely have to have one of each race, especially since Sylvari are <3 and Asura seem to be Anets prodigal children – but as I said, I don’t think they’d do that)
Sorry you’re out of luck.
The game plays strictly using the resolution you’ve set, the window isn’t independently resizable. I’m guessing that is because the UI is set to scale at specific amounts and it would take a lot of extra effort to code it to scale fluidly with whatever size the user puts the window to, you have to remember that WoW is a very old game and runs on much simpler systems.
There is also no way to have separate resolutions for Windowed and Full Screen mode. The game is build under the assumption that you’re probably going to just be using one specific mode to play with rather than switching between them.
The only suggestion I can offer, if you right click the dock and turn hiding on then you can play windowed 1900×1080 and it should only clip the bottom 10 or so pixels. Obviously not optimal, but better than nothing.
Can I ask why you need to play in windowed mode anyway? If you’re running the game in Full Screen you can just command+tab to switch applications.
I at least agree with the second part.
It’s not a big deal now, but when I first started playing it was actually really confusing being downed and finding that the skills didn’t function in the same way as your regular skill bar does.
Skill 1 of downed state should sort of be an auto attack because it isn’t clear (when you first start playing) whether you can just makitten or what, and skill 4 should have some way of indicating to you that it is a long cast since both skill 4 and skill 1 seem to function differently…
Honestly guys. It is obviously where Lazarus the Dire went to hide and he’s managed to harness the power of the bloodstone and is in there recovering. Gate is obviously of Mursaat origins.
(Joking obviously)
(Sorry I couldn’t resist, there hasn’t been enough Mursaat crazies going on in the forums)
In the OSX client there is an option to use both left and right mouse buttons for Camera look. Can we please PLEASE have this option in Windows as well?
I hate Free Camera with a passion and I ocassionally find myself playing GW2 with a trackpad (it works much better than you would think) or having to use a multi touch one button mouse, which results in free camera being activated quite frequently when I wanted camera look.
I don’t use free camera ever, I think it’s a stupid function although I can understand why some people would want to use it and why it should be in game. But since the OSX client has the option to turn it off I don’t think it can be that hard to give windows this option also?
What they are now does not preclude them from being a major or even playable race.
Well it does a bit… Can you imagine trying to get cloth armour onto a stone dwarf. Oh the horror, oh the tearing
THE POINTY STONE BEARDS SHREDDING THEIR SHIRTS!
The fact that there are no female dwarves that have ever been seen? (Well Ogden says that they also have beards and we have seen them, but NOBODY wants to play a tiny bearded women in a fantasy game)
(Yes they explained that away with the lack of Charr females in GW1, but we had access to the whole of deldrimor and did not see any female dwarves..

Also, can you go to a relatively empty zone like timberline falls then close te game. Tart the client back up, log in to thy character and open the trading post. If it still isn’t working then let us know. I do know that sometimes the TP won’t load when you’ve been on a heavily populated area.
I would also suggest opening disk utility and repairing permissions in case that is preventing it from accessing what it need to connect and render the TP
No. I don’t think it is anyones business what gear anyone else is running. The game is not heavily gear dependent and people should be free to run with whatever set up works best for them. Especially when GW2 does such a good job of letting people play how they want – people should have to play how everyone else wants them to just because a handful of delusional people think that specific things are the only viable options.
The ONLY place this would actually be acceptable is FoTM, because Agony Resistance is kind of vital and people should be able to ensure that their party members have the appropriate AR.
I have a solution.
Augment humans to have gills. Problem solved.
You are welcome. Goodnight.
As Konig says, pretty much everything except Humans have one name for both the singular and plural names. I’m pretty sure there are linguistic reasons for it being so but I can’t be bothered sitting here and figuring it out. They all naturally would be said as both singular and plural though, but yes in game dialogue and Anet commentaries back them all up.

Thanks for the thought Ashley. We’re just really hoping for some news or a confirmation or something, but your help on this forum is very appreciated… At least our issues may be communicated to the higher powers unlike how it was before.
Foxx, you don’t know this and no one has confirmed it. I highly doubt Anet would leave their product in someone else’s hands solely, most likely they paid to get the port and a few months of support from their team, but furthermore, they’d have to pay for future support from an outside team. No offense to those still trying to help us (thank you again Ashley), but they are still responsible for the support provided to the Mac client users.
As for the peeps on the forums, I’ve said it time and time again that peeps only come to the forums when they have an issue and yes, that’s a fairly small minority of players, but some of us just stick around to help others because we found help here once.
So, let’s just wait for our response and hope it’s favourable, be grateful for having a support rep actually reading our forum and offering help to us, and just keep helping those who need it… Without constructive words, there is no reason to post.
I kind of do… Anet has stated quite a few times on the forums that the users on the forums make up a very small portion of the player base…
^— The Eternal Battlegrounds is in the Mists not Tyria…. They can look like whatever they want because nothing has to make a whole lot of sense in the Mists, but they aren’t in Tyria.
One would think the practise stopped because professions evolved and encompassed a wider range of possibilities. Which I suppose is at least in some ways true → No more monks.

It’s also important to remember that the forums actually represent a VERY VERY SMALL MINORITY of the actual playerbase. There will be tons and tons of players using the OSX Client who don’t visit the forums and have zero problems. That makes the people complaining on the forums a minuscule minority. That of course doesn’t make peoples problems any less real or frustrating, but just trying ti inject a little perspective :P

Hey Kyllaa – No updates at the moment. Sorry!
Hi thanks for replying in these forums at least.
Anyway i think it is incredible a company as Arena Net didn’t have a proper Mac team even after launched a beta client. Nobody is working on it? it is really absurd.
I’m sorry but really i regret giving you my money, i’ve also buy item in the store… I put my money where my mouth is, for sure i will think twice before giving Arena net a cent in the future.
Because there is nothing that they could do to work on it I don’t think.
The Port is managed by Cider, so any issues with it are issues with Cider not with Anet…
There wasn’t really a lore element to Secondary professions in GW1 anyway. It was something in game to provide more depth of mechanics, NPC’s were always considered by lore as strictly being of one profession, in terms of mechanics they may have had a secondary profession, but in terms of lore they were of one profession.
The answer is magic. As lazy as it sounds, but Riders were actually brought to Tyria from the Mists by a powerful wizard and they always have been able to cast spells. Well I admit in GW1 many creatures were casters for mechanical reasons, but in the case of the Riders it was implied that they actually are spellcasters. In GW2 there is less emphasize on their magical powers, but they still seem to count als magic creatures.
It is never outright said they were brought to Tyria from the mists. It is implied, but not stated. For all we know they originated somewhere else on Tyria and the powerful wizard/mesmer/whatever portalled/summoned them somehow.
Yeah they’ve done this out of necessity.
With the way the forums work any topic that is posted in is bumped to the top of it’s respective category. If you could reply to recruitment posts a guild could just have people constantly replying to make sure they stay up the top, which would be unfair on anyone else who was being pushed to the bottom and not being noticed. This way it functions fairly.
^— This.
The Living Story stuff actually COULD have been really epic. I think it’s temporaryness is part of the problem though, they had to release content that wasn’t too large in size so that people could complete it within a short amount of time and anyone who missed it didn’t miss out on too much. Because of that what we were left with was a little bit lackluster, especially for those of us who actually did have to miss parts of the story -_-.
Sea of Sorrow’s has pretty good PvE population density. There are always a few people running around near me even in low population side maps like Timberline Falls.
Breeze Riders, and Riders in general, are a bit of a mystery in GW.
http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Rider
It is hinted that they come from the Mists, so there is all kinds of weird stuff going on with them. You can levitate weirdly when you come from a place where things don’t have to make sense ;P
I agree so much! Jeremy Soule is my favorite composer as well, and I own all four discs of this soundtrack and there are so many beautiful and interesting compositions that should be used.
There were a lot of times that I was really confused with the placement of the music in the personal story. The one that stands out the most was the cleansing of Orr. They picked the piano piece of “Fear Not This Night” to play during it. And it really took away from the epic feel of what was happening. You’re being swarmed by risen and the emotions expressed in the music don’t match what’s happening to your character. The music in that instance was very quiet, as well. I found that to be the biggest disappointment when it came to audio placement.
They seem to over use “Fear Not This Night” in the game. For example, it’s utilized when you view a vista in The Grove. Why not play a segment from “Ventari’s Legacy” or “Out of the Dream”? I agree with all of the points you listed. I hope we get to hear some more great compositions in the game.
Because Fear Not This Night is a really brilliant track and because of the lyrics Ree wrote for it and the recorded version of it the song is actually rooted in lore (pale tree pun). I did a mini skip for joy every time I did a vista in The Grove. Also, Vista’s in specific areas all use the same track, so that explains that bit for you. There is no more appropriate a track for Vista’s in the Grove than one sung by the pale tree herself! <— Insane Sylvari enthusiast, sorry.
I think this comes down to personal opinion really.
As a GW1 player I absolutely love GW2’s soundtrack and I am really glad that it does borrow tracks from GW1 as well as having new tracks.
More people have read this within 2 minutes than would have ever read it in Suggestions, just take a look at the viewcount threads to see that.
As the title clearly says, and the words within my post clearly say, I’m talking about coin rewards, not dungeon tokens. They already diminish when 1 path is done over and over again- the same logic I think should be applied to coin rewards also.
Why would I want to do this? I’ve provided 4 things which I believe to be negative that this would solve. So maybe you should read them again.
I don’t want to punish people for taking the easiest way of earning money, I just don’t want to reward them as much as if they did something more challenging. Does such a thing seem ridiculous to you?
My bad, I could have sworn I read the word tokens. I even double checked, apparently I’m just that tired O_o.
Yes more people have viewed it, but that doesn’t change the fact that it is in the wrong place. A mod will move it at some point to the suggestions forum and it would be nicer to put it there in the first place instead of wasting their time with a menial task.
