I think they wont but not beacuse there evil i mean look at the charr there worse and yet u can play them i think not beacuse of the over poweredness if ur not infused.

The Mursaat are a lot more evil than the Charr were.
The Charr are a grey area, it was the Shaman Caste who were “evil”, and you have to keep in mind that humanity took the lands of Ascalon from the Charr who were the original inhabitants.

The Mursaat are just malicious and pure evil.

I think it’s possible that they could make a return. Didn’t Saul D’Alessio require help from the Mursaat to retake Kryta from the Charr? Kryta being the human home land now, the Unseen ones may very well make a return. I don’t think we exterminated them in the first game? We killed a few but not all of them and they do think they’re Gods so why not? It’s been 250 years, they could have rebuilt? We have a condition called Agony? Perhaps infusions and ascended armour will play a role in this?? Be interesting to see how those wasp people look after all this time.

I don’t think it’s ever stated that they actually think they’re gods…
They simply used Saul to get the humans of Kryta to think that they were gods. Otherwise they would have had a very hard time rounding up sacrifices for the bloodstone..
Pretty sure they know they aren’t gods, they’re just very intelligent and malicious.

Actually, the Moon is Earths only proven natural satellite.
There are plenty of quasi-satellites, but no other bodies you could actually scientifically refer to as a moon.

I’d be inclined to say Tyria only has one moon, we’ve only ever seen one and we have had plenty of nighttime scenes from different parts of Tyria.

Time Limits on Guild Missions

FlamingFoxx.1305

It’s been mentioned in multiple places that there are time limits on the daily missions. Obviously we have no idea how long these are until the patch is released.

But I was thinking about how a few of these are scavenger hunt-ish type things where you’re given a clue and have to go find the boss in the world.
What are those of us who load maps slowly meant to do? Honestly by the time one map has loaded the rest of my guild will have probably already found the mission at which point I am left having to remap and wait even longer while I slowly load into the correct place and have already missed out on a chunk of the content.

Obviously thats the worst case scenario and hopefully something Anet have factored in when designing these, but I guess just what are other peoples thoughts? Does having to load into multiple maps deter you from this? Detract from the intended group element etc?

(Side note, don’t tell me to upgrade my internet, it’s not actually that slow for where I live -5-7Mbps- and there is no way for me to get faster internet. It doesn’t impede me actually playing the game, I have never had lagging or latency issues, maps just load very slowly)

You should buy a solid state drive or lots of ram and put the game into a Ram Disk! Most maps load in like 5 seconds

Except I’m a student with a laptop who is hardly going to shell out a ton of money to put a SSD in my machine. I realise it’s unfortunate, but a huge majority if players don’t have gaming machines or a need for one.
I’m able to play with all settings on max so it’s not like my computer is bad or anything, but there is no way I can justify buying a SSD or getting more than 4GB RAM just to play GW2.

What are the chances of Cantha in GW2?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: FlamingFoxx.1305

FlamingFoxx.1305

I’d say the chances are slim in the short to medium term, but maybe one day.

There is room on the world map for two or three times the zones we have already, and there are the other dragons to face. My guess would be that we will face Jormag, Primordus, Kralkatorak and Bubbles over the next 2-3 years, and see bouts of map expansion with new zones as we face each Elder Dragon. Whether these will coincide with paid expansions (likely IMO) or as development of the Living Story, I’m not sure.

The point is, there seems to be a lot of room on the current map, and quite a lot of story to go with the Dragons before we are likely to see serious work done on Cantha.
Maybe in a few years time, when looking for new plot ideas, decisions about Cantha will be revisited. I doubt we’ll see that until the game is 4-5 years old though.

I loved Factions, and would love to see Cantha again sooner than this, but sadly I can’t see it happening any time soon.

Well yes and know. Almost all of the dragons are on continental Tyria. We’ve dealt with Zhaitan. Jormag is up in the Shiverpeaks, Primordius is underground (I think it was mentioned below the Fire Island Chain?) and Kralkatorikk is in the Crystal Desert/Northern Elona. All of which were places accessible in Prophecies (with the exception of the far shiverpeaks). (ignoring DSD and 6th)

I agree that Cantha is probably a while off, but they’re unlikely to focus all expansions/content releases on the Elder Dragons because people would get very sick of that very quickly.

I’m inclined to believe they’ll open up Elona before we fight too many more dragons.

They can’t realistically give a time because it depends on a lot of different factors.
They put it out as soon as they can, but they have to allow for time to iron out any last minute issues etc.

They’ve given the day that the update will be pushed out and that’s all that really matters, it doesn’t change how you play the game. If you’re going to play then play, maybe the patch will be out? maybe it wont? Likewise if you weren’t going to play on that day then it doesn’t matter what time the patch comes out.

I’d not so quickly say Cantha is out of the question because of a vague rumour supplied by a supposed anonymous artist, of all things.

It isn’t a vague rumour. Arenanet employees have commented quite a few times in that post confirming it. The REASON it happened is a rumour, but the point is it did happen and as of right now is valid. Hopefully when Anet brings up the idea/possibility of Cantha again whatever stopped it before no longer matters.

lvl 100 Test Ring on GW2DB. Lvl Cap Increase?

FlamingFoxx.1305

I’m going to keep playing as long as the game keeps bringing in ascended armor and new content. If the level cap is ever increased and everything i have then becomes void worthless.. That’s is when i will stop playing and go back to good old RTS games.

But so far this has not bee officially stated by Anet so all is well in the GW2 world..
Still the best game I’ve played in a very long time.

You realize the irony in that right?
You just said you will stop playing if your current gear becomes worthless. Yet that is EXACTLY what ascended gear does (and thus why so many people have a problem with it) (personally not a problem to me, I just hope they add it into crafting at some point because other it makes having 400 in crafting a bit pointless >.>).

I have no problem with an increase in level cap because it would come with higher level areas and thus leave all the current areas unchanged. But I honestly don’t think they will bother. With Agony they’ve set themselves up to be able to add higher tiers of gear and the scaling system works really well. Having higher levels would be a very superficial thing as it doesn’t actually add more challenge to the game (levels exist to show progression, ideally the game shouldn’t actually be getting any (or much) harder as you level up and move on to new areas).

FlamingFoxx.1305

I have to admit I loved Green’s in GW1, it always felt way cooler if you were using “Kerrsh’s Staff” rather than generic Bo Staff number 5.

I remember that before release when they talked about dungeon rewards they, at the time, had set up a different system where you earned the dungeon gear on play through, rather than earning tokens. I was actually really excited for that and wish it was something they had kept in game.

There is a massive difference between “do this dungeon 6-12 times and get a full set of gear” and “do this dungeon a RIDICULOUS amount of times so you can afford to buy a full set of gear”. Giving players direct and quantifiable rewards makes them feel as if they’ve achieved something. Telling players to earn a kitten-load of tokens to buy the dungeon gear makes them view dungeons as a grind.

I’ve thought the same thing. But maybe they’re trying to preserve line of sight a little bit. Lots and lots of trees and vegetation can easily get people lost, or make it difficult to fight monsters.

That, and also the more objects you put on screen the more work peoples computers have to do to render them. There is a reason you don’t ever see thickly forested areas in any games, people computers just couldn’t handle it.

But as you said, fighting or navigating in those kinds of areas would be a nightmare.

Sylvari theory

in Lore

FlamingFoxx.1305

I don’t really feel like a parental connection between Sylvari would really work. They’re all meant to be like children in a way (obviously not in a lot of other ways). But I think the connection between Sylvari is very much that of friendship and occasionally as if they’re siblings. Especially when you look at the firstborn who all treat each other like close brothers and sisters, and they in turn end up feeling like older brothers and sisters to the rest of the Sylvari (at least to me).

With your idea of Wyld Love Hunts I kind of like it xD. I do actually recall reading or listening to Ree Soesbee say something that sort of suggested that some Sylvari meet another and just KNOW that that is the person they want to/are meant to be with.

I also imagine that there are a lot of Sylvari who have met another Sylvari in the dream and then found each other afterwards because they have strong feelings from back in the dream. (Mind goes to the numerous Sylvari NPC’s who say “I know you from my dream” – Perfect Sylvari pick up line right there)

The world itself stays in the current state because he is dead on a per character basis.

Anet might eventually publish some form of lore article stating that the corruption in Orr is receding or some other such thing, but I wouldn’t except them to do that until a large content release and I wouldn’t expect their to be any visual changes. Orr as a zone is designed to be Zhaitans home and the final area relating to the main storyline, as such it kind of has to stay as is for any new players and anyone creating a new character to play through the story again.

I doubt they would add a duplicate Orr with changes because they are very much against splitting the player base more and I imagine ti would be difficult to add dynamic events and things to do on a map that is meant to show the lessening of corruption.

Are we all inbred?

in Sylvari

FlamingFoxx.1305

Except they’re hardly any more incestuous than we all are.
Humans have very small points of origin and all of us share common ancestors with one another, as in, we are all related.

You can’t really call it incest with Sylvair either because they don’t view one another as brothers and sisters and they don’t reproduce. They’re plants not mammals, don’t try and prescribe human traits on them (other than what they have already prescribed onto themselves)

Unfortunately, it’s a bit hard to get rid of the incest notion as the Pale Tree specifically refers to all sylvari as her children in a literal manner, not just a paternal figure. Siblings do exist, as Caithe in Beneath a Cold Moon specifically refers to Trahearne as her brother:

Caithe: The undead dragon at the heart of the cursed land of Orr. Only two living creatures have ever seen it: myself and my brother Trahearne.

Either way, it’s a moot point, as Sylvari cannot breed anyway.

Well, except for the Pale Tree, if she counts as a Sylvari, even if she is unique. Self-pollination happens in nature too. XD

Yes but that is because they are firstborn. The Firstborn all have some weird bond and are considered rather special in terms of Sylvari. With other Sylvari the only genuine references to siblings I’ve come across (and granted I haven’t been looking) has been two twins in the personal storyline who came from the same pod.

Talk to named NPC’s, they quite often have loreish dialogue that can be a little more in-depth than the dialogue of the Heart-NPC’s. Pay attention to the names of zones and POI’s. You really have to go looking for the lore in a lot of areas.

I disagree, Guildwars 1 story/campaign was nothing like Guildwars 2 setup, makes me wonder how some of these people say they played Guildwars 1…

And yes i agree op we need more open world content. be it stories, quest hubs whatever..

I played GW1 for several years. Mechanically, it’s exactly the same. You reach a certain location or point in the story, you’re pulled out of the main world into a heavily instanced event, you do whatever the quest tells you, and then you’re dropped back out of it.

But I’ll bite. Please, do explain how different they are, since I obviously have no clue what I’m talking about. I’m going to enjoy this.

The difference comes in the scope of a GW2 Personal Story mission in comparison to the scope of a GW1 mission.

In GW1 missions took a decent amount of time and covered quite a lot. You generally ran across an entire map area, compare that to the tiny little cutouts you’re confined to in GW2 personal story missions. One of the few longer personal story missions was one where I trolloped through potential future Orr with Trahaerne, and it was torturous.

The first mission you do in GW1 involved fighting through Charr, collecting some old bits of armour for a poor ghost and then coming across an amassing army of Charr who you then proceed to run away from. That is epic. GW2 personal story -go stand over there and watch these NPC’s have a conversation, now fight these mobs as they run towards you-.

Of course GW2 doesn’t get it wrong 100% of the time, there have been a few personal story missions that I’ve really enjoyed and were well constructed and fleshed out. But as it stands a lot of them just don’t stack up, there ends up being very little story communicated through them and what we are presented with isn’t fleshed out well enough. Most of the time you’re actually assisting an NPC which detracts from the fact that this is meant to be YOUR adventure. Yes NPC’s were often a heavy presence in GW1, but because everything was party based and you were already dragging around 7 other players or henchmen/heroes the NPC’s didn’t feel as if they were taking the spotlight away from you. In part because they served a seperate role to yourself. Unlike in GW2 where the NPC’s and you are rather interchangeable.

Do u feel this in GW2 lol???

You guys obviously don’t understand what OP means.

In it’s current state there is no short term, story delivering group content in GW2.
Dungeons are generally either too long or involve skipping as much of them as possible in order to make them short and farmable. Dungeons also are shocking at delivering story. Both story and explorable mode do very little to tell a cohesive story that gives the player some kind of sense of involvement in the world.

DE’s are great, but they don’t deliver anywhere near the complexity of a GW1 mission.

I definitely agree with the OP. I loved GW1’s missions because I knew that they weren’t going to take an age to complete, weren’t going to be too ridiculously hard or too ridiculously easy and were actually going to deliver and develop on a story that I cared about and felt like I was involved in.

The only way to get higher up in FoTM is to get Agony Resistance and the only way to do that is to get fine infusions.

The same goes for doing paths that you’re forced to miss out on. In all reality there is no reason why i couldn’t go off and save x village AND investigate x person.

They’ve just made the personal story feel very limited and short. I don’t care if they think it adds a level of “personal” to it, because it really doesn’t. It just makes you feel like a very very limited hero.

FlamingFoxx.1305

It definitely isn’t bad to overlevel. It’s how I ended up playing my game.
I would however suggest either going through same level group of zones one after the other because that eliminates issues with having the wrong gathering tools (in other words to all the 1-15 lvl zones first etc). Or alternatively following an area through it’s zones up to the higher levels (around a 50-60 zone is high enough) and then going back to do the other lower level areas.

Mix in your personal story on occassion etc just for variety.

I’m at a point where I’m level 80 without yet having stepped in a level 80 zone (except Southsun cove) but I have exotic gear so it isn’t as though I’ve missed out on anything yet.

if you do your daily in fractals on lvl 20 or above you have a chance to get an already infused one.

Thanks for that clarification. So the rings purchased with Laurels can be upgraded to have +5AR, and then given an upgraded infusion for an additional +5AR.
But to get to fractal level 20 you already sort of have to have Agony Resistance don’t you xD?

FlamingFoxx.1305

Can someone please explain the ways in which it is possible to get Agony resistance on your rings/amulets/whatever else, as well as explaining how much you are able to put on each item.

This is something I’m having real trouble understanding as it isn’t explained anywhere. I’ve looked at every page relating to agony resistance, ascended gear and infusions on the wiki and the only thing that I can gather is that to get an infusion with agony resistance you have to forge it in the Mystic Forge. But there’s no explanation of other ways it might be possible or how you get agony resistance on things other than infusions.

For something that is so important and is eventually going to be available as the highest tier for all gear in the game this is something that actually needs decent explaining. Ideally the system would actually be simple enough that it doesn’t need explaining. But since Anet is so intent on shoving every single aspect of the game into the Mystic Forge just to see what pops out, there are always going to be people like me who have no idea how things work because there is nowhere that explains it in all its intricacies.

(If you’re going to comment with “google it” or “check the wiki” then please don’t bother responding. I’ve checked the wiki and found it only marginally helpfully and all I really want is someone to nicely take a few minutes out of their time to map the system out for me)

Or am i incorrect?

Race refers to a group with common (usually biological) features. So race is still correct, but I can understand why you might think not. Consider that we are the ‘human race’, which is because we all share the same features, so anything that is different to humans but shares features within a group is also a race.

The word itself can be used rather loosely, and is used rather loosely so I understand your confusion. But it is right :P

-snip-

I wouldn’t say the Asura are xenophobic. They have no problems with the other races as evidence by their love of using them as labour, experimenting on them, studying them etc. They just view themselves as vastly superior. Which is itself of course a reason why they probably wouldn’t fall in love with members of any of the other races, they place such a massive importance on intellect which they see as something only truly possessed by Asura that I can’t see them loving anything non-Asuran.
That being said, they MIGHT potentially show affection for Skritt, who can be insanely smart. But of course the second that Skritt was alone the intellect would be gone.

Fix the camera

My only real gripe with the camera is not being able to zoom in completely. Not because I want to play from a FPS view, I think that’s stupid, but because there are times when zooming in fully would be more helpful for JP’s and because we really should be able to take proper screenshots without out character in them.

Consumable HOTBARS!

I understand that coming from other MMO’s people do really like Hotbars.
But no thanks.
I’ve always hated that most MMO’s let you or force you to clutter up your screen with things, regardless of whether they are consumables or skills, it just looks tacky and makes everything more complex than it needs to be.

I think the point with boosters and consumables is that you pop them before you enter combat/whatever you’re using them for, so there is no reason you cant open your Inventory, use it and then close it and not have it obstructing anything else.

GW1 only began when you reached lvl 20.

GW2 just begins when you reach lvl 80.

You’re kidding right?
GW1 was a story based game, the game revolved around the storyline and the missions. It started at level 1.

Add precursors to the Laurel System

Not true, that’s just another alternative method they offered you, but they do drop as epic rare drops in dungeons and chests. Ignoring that fact and only focusing on the forge is your own fault. You can get them without spending a single gold coin, you just have to get a bit lucky, because they really are epic rare.

At any case, someone mentioned they’d like the dungeon master achievement would give you a precursor, but I think that would be kinda too easy.

Haha, I would never waste money on RNGing with the Mystic Forge. My gold sits firmly in the bank >.>

I think the point is really that there needs to be a set way to get Precursors and legendaries. Relying on the tiny tiny tiny possibility of a chest drop or having to throw ridiculously expensive things into the mystic forge really isn’t the solution in my eyes.

I would rather know that there was some giant chain of things to do out in the actual game that led me to earning a precursor and eventually a legendary. I think it’s sad that the only way to get a Legendary is to work the Trading Post (there is no feasible way you can get that much gold my dungeon running without being someone who can dedicate ridiculous amounts of time).

Wizard's Tower

In keeping with tradition of GW1 which was 7+ years of never getting to actually set foot in the Wizard’s Tower; no, you will not get to enter this one either.

Just like in GW1 you can make pretty wallpapers using the beautiful scenery of the tower and that’s it! Hi 5 Anet!

Except they’ve specifically drawn attention to it by giving it relevance in game. In GW1 it was quite literally just this random floating unknown tower.
