^—- Exactly what Naqaj said.
The requirements will always be high unless they decide to make a native client, which won’t happen considering they have already put money into this license with transgaming.

Running the client through a cider wrapper ends up taking considerably more RAM and processing power, so they have to inflate the system requirements to reflect that.

Download failed!

Well unfortunately the free trial was only for a weekend with the release of the Southsun cove content.

Unfortunately I’m not 100% sure what the issue is, but I completely understand the pain of not wanting to buy something only to find out it’s not going to work again.

On a positive note you can download and install the client without owning the game. Obviously you wouldn’t be able to login or play, but better to deal with that part when we’ve solved the current issue right?

First things first: Do you currently have the client installed?
If you do and it has downloaded parts of the game in the past then let me know and we can rescue them.
- If you still have the game installed,
- Open your applications folder and find Guild Wars 2
- Right click Guild Wars 2 and then select “Show Package Contents”
- Go into the Contents folder then the Resources folder
- Open “CiderSettings.plist”
- Beneath the line that says “CiderGameOptions” will be a string value with “cmdline” inside it.
- Locate the two Quotation marks directly after cmdline and put “-repair” inside them (so the whole line will look like this <string>—cmdline “-repair”</string>) and then save the file.
- Run the Guild Wars 2 application and then cross your fingers, what this attempts to do is locate any issues with the client and repair them.
- WARNING: You should only run the client with the -repair command ONCE, if this works make sure that you go back into that file and remove the -repair command, returning that line to <string>--cmdline ""</string>. Otherwise it will try and repair the client EVERY SINGLE TIME you open it.

If not, make sure you’ve deleted Guild Wars 2 from your applications folder.

Next, follow my steps from this forum:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/mac/If-GW2-will-not-launch/first#post855344
While you are in the Library folder (the instructions to get to it are in that post) there is also a folder called “preferences” in there look for one called “com.transgaming.guildwars2.plist” and delete that as well.
That should have deleted all of the GW2 files, I would then suggest going to https://account.guildwars2.com/account/download/mac and getting the client. (I think that should work without you needing to login?)

If it still pulls up the “Download failed” then try following the instructions I listed near the top with the -repair command.

If none of these work then it’s possible that the issue is with your modem/routers setup.
https://eu.support.guildwars2.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/8994
In that forum expand the first error code (I realise it’s a different error). In bold they have listed some of the TCP ports that GW2 requires to work. Make sure those are enabled on your modem/router and then give it a try.

Other than that I am out of suggestions. I seriously hope something here works for you though!

Yeah it does unfortunately seem to be a bit of a win or lose situation.
I’ve been able to run the client just fine since they made it available, but there are of course a whole lot of people who experience constant crashes or just can’t get it to run.

The number of crashes has been increasing lately though, I’ve been using the client for a while and it’s only in the last week or two that I’ve started getting crashes. For the most part it usually stems either from over population or because I’ve been playing for too long and the systems gotten a bit too hot (it happens when you’re playing on a laptop xD)

Guild Wars 2 MAC Client problem

in Account & Technical Support

Posted by: FlamingFoxx.1305

FlamingFoxx.1305

Hey there, I’ll post some questions so I can try and get a better understanding of what your issue is:
- What Operating system are you running, Snow Leopard, Lion or Mountain Lion?
- What resolution is your monitor?
- What are the exact steps that lead to this error and how exactly does it happen? (I.E. When you open the GW2 app are you able to log in and click play? When you click play does the entire screen go black and display that message? Is the message displayed through the GW2 app (as a crash), is the message displayed through your mac as a system message?)
- When this error happens are you able to Alt+Tab back to your mac desktop or Command+Q to quit GW2 or do you have to restart to fix the problem?

From what you’ve said it actually sounds like an issue with your monitor or settings rather than an issue with GW2?
- If you open System Preferences and then go to Displays how is your external monitor set to display?
- If you try lowering your computers resolution will GW2 run?

Guild Wars 2 on 2008 Mac Pro?

What Operating System is it running? Snow Leopard, Lion or Mountain Lion?
And is that a Xeon processor?

Neither Snow Leopard nor Xeon processors are supported so there is no guarantee that the game will run, but there is nothing to say that it won’t either.

Hopefully someone else who has tried running the game with a Mac Pro can give you a better idea of what your friend could expect.

I’ve posted detailed instructions to something that might help out in a new topic in these forums:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/mac/If-GW2-will-not-launch/first#post855344

Let me know if that helps at all.

However, if you are running Snow Leopard ( I can’t tell if you just have a small resolution or if it is SL) then there may not be a fix as Snow Leopard isn’t supported by the GW2 app.

If GW2 will not launch:

FlamingFoxx.1305

If a moderator could pin this or create an official topic with this information that would probably be helpful.

A lot of people seem to be having issues where either the launcher does not load, the launcher screen goes blank or black or the game launches into a black screen.

Whilst not a guaranteed fix, there is a possible solution that seems to have worked for a lot of people:
- First of all, create a copy of the Guild Wars 2 application in your applications folder, that way if anything goes wrong you can simply put your copy back.
- Open up Finder and navigate to your user directory (Your home folder, usually your first name)
- Hold down the Alt/Option key on your keyboard and Click “Go” in your menu bar.
- Holding down Alt/Option should reveal the “Library” option, click this to open your user library.
- Open the “Application Support” folder.
- Inside this folder there will be a folder called" Guild Wars 2", create a copy of this folder on your desktop (Just in case something goes wrong) and then delete it from the “Application Support” folder.
- Run your Guild Wars 2 application, it should carry out a small update as it re-downloads/rebuilds the folder you have just deleted, hopefully fixing any issues you had previously with the launcher.

If this has worked for you then it would be great if you could reply to this post letting others know that it worked and what the issue you were experiencing in the first place was.

Happy gaming!

First of all I notice you have a lot of applications running. I’d recommend quitting them before trying to run GW2, they’re using up resources that the game probably needs.

I would suggest opening Finder and navigating to your user folder>>Hold down Alt/Option and click Go in your menu bar>>Library(it will only show if you hold alt)>> Application Support>>In here there should be a folder called Guild Wars 2, make a copy of it on your desktop, just in case, and then delete it from the folder.
Try running GW2 again and hopefully it will try and rebuild this folder. Potentially solving your issue.

(I realise your mac isn’t in English, so the Go option in the menu bar might not be called Go? but you’ll have to figure that out yourself xD).

Let me know if this helped at all!

but what do you think of my system specs? would i run into troubles?

Unfortunately I would say you would. You have an Intel graphics card and you’d be running a highly GPU intensive game.

I have a 15" MBP with a 2.2 i7 processor, 4GB RAM and a Radeon 6750m graphics card. I can generally run the game in PvE with most settings on high and have a decent frame-rate, but for PvP I have to turn the settings down (The game still looks great with low settings so I don’t find that to be a problem). With the settings turned down a bit I get great performance in PvP, but I imagine with your graphics card being an intel your experience wouldn’t be as desirable.

Hopefully someone who has the same spec’d mac as you can reply to this and give you a better idea of what you’d be getting.

A quick search on the forums shows that for other people deleting the Guild Wars 2 folder in Application Support has worked, but if that didn’t work for you then I’m not sure.
I’d recommend doing an SMC reset.

If you are running the game on a Macbook Pro/Air then try starting the game up both with and without the charger plugged in, I know there are some people who aren’t able to start the game up if their charger is plugged in.

This is possibly your best bet. Make a backup of your GW2 app, just incase. – Open up your Applications Folder>>Right Click Guild Wars 2>>Show Package Contents>>Contents>>Resources>> Find the file called “CiderSettings.plist” and open it.

You will see “CiderGameOptions” and then below that the words cmdline followed by two quotation marks.
Inside the quotation marks put “-repair” (My quotation marks are just to show you exactly what you should have)
Save the file and then try running GW2, I think this would probably run the patcher and it should verify the games files and look for anything broken. Just make sure that afterwards you go back and remove the -repair command from the file (A smart way to do this would be to make a copy of the file and then just move the original copy back after you’ve done the repair.

Alternatively if that doesn’t work you could try this:
Open Finder>>Hold down alt/option on your keyboard and press “Go” in the menu bar>>Library>>Application Support>>Guild Wars 2

Make a copy of that Guild Wars 2 folder on your desktop just in case anything goes wrong (I’d also suggest making a copy of the GW2 App itself, if something goes wrong its easier to put everything back than redownload).

Delete the Guild Wars 2 folder in Application support. Run GW2.

I would hope that this resets what it’s trying to load up and forces it to do a small download with the launcher.

Let me know if either of those work for you! Hope the game lets you back in soon!

I have to agree with this but I think the unfortunately reality is that Anet will centre as much as possible around Lions Arch.

There is already so little reason to go to the other cities, map completion is about the only thing that has taken me to the others, I do frequently go back to The Grove to do crafting, it costs me more Silver to WP there (but thats an argument for another day), but I like the feel more.

It almost feels like they’re trying to hard to be all inclusive, but I really wouldn’t mind if there was some big threat to Divinity’s Reach – My Sylvari is a good guy, he has absolutely no problems running over to help out.

I have been following this thread and I am a bit confused, that screen you show is from when you install from disk, when I upgraded one of my drives to ML from the App store I did not even see that screen.

I say this because when you buy from the App store you are logged in with the drive that you booted your machine from and therefore would not see the screen you show.

^— THis actually gives me an idea.
Is it somehow possible that what you have is the same as the Mountain Lion USB install file?

Maybe you could try putting the installer onto a USB and running it off that, it’s possible that it won’t let you install it on the disk because it can’t run the installer at the same time?

Just bought the mountain lion installer on my macbook pro and i get the same error as before when running the installer…

First I would suggest opening up Disk Utility then select your hard drive in the left hand panel and click “Repair Disk” underneath the large white box.
There is also something you can do by booting into the recovery disk and using disk utility that essentially defrags the disk, but I can’t remember what the option is – I had to do it once when it wouldn’t let me partition my drive for bootcamp.

Yes. OS X is not distributable. It is $19.99 per machine it is installed on. Just go in to the Mac App Store and ML is listed under “Apple Apps” on the right side menu.

Not true at all… I have 4 macs in my house and with both Lion and Mountain Lion I have downloaded it once and then copied the installer file across to each computer to install it.

I have the .dmg file from my dad’s mac. Do i have to repurchase it to install it?

The file you should have from your dads mac would be called “Mountain Lion Installer” or something like that, from memory the installer doesn’t actually show up as a DMG, it’s actually an app, which would be the issue you are having. The installer app is downloaded directly from the mac app store into the App’s folder and thats what you need to be able to install – if you didn’t copy this file before your dad’s Mac was upgraded then the file itself is gone.

Make sure you have the latest version of Snow Leopard installed so that you have the mac app store and then try again – otherwise, log into the Mac app store on your computer using your dads Apple ID and then go to Downloads and you should have the option to re-download the Mountain Lion installer.

Not surprisingly the links in the new Black friday sale email don’t work either – they actually have the exact same faulty URL as the Survey email….. Someone needs to get their kittens together.

It seems insane to me that you can send out mass emails with links to something that doesn’t even exist: The root to all of the faulty emails is guildwars2.ncsoft.com/ Thats not even a website -_-

The issue with your suggestion comes from the fact that the google DNS are horrible. I’ve used them before and it rather noticeably affected my internets performance. Dye Drop rate

FlamingFoxx.1305

First of all: Wrong Forum category. This if for issues with the website itself, not game bugs.

But anyway: The update fixed an issue where the drop rate was extremely large, and it was, I was getting around 4 or 5 dyes in a day of playing, which is insane xD.
They are random, and I think it’s intended that you might come across multiple dyes in a day, or you might only get one in a week – both of which have happened to me since the update.

Random drop rates can be rather unfortunate either because you receive a ton of things you don’t really need (The amount of Black Lion Chests that I get is insane), or you hardly ever get anything as with you and dyes. You’re just going to have to cross your fingers and pray to Mellaggan :P

You are purchasing the right to play the game based on your computers meeting of the minimum technical requirements and purchasing the right to access the data associated with the game and create an account and play on it.

The matter of the fact is that Arenanet have released a Mac client and, regardless of whether or not the client itself is in beta, have advertised the game as being available on mac .

I definitely agree with a lot of this.
Re: Drop rates: Having lootable karka corpses was actually an insanely infrequent occurrence for me, I killed 200+ of these things and I am not exagerating in saying that only 10 of them had lootable corpses. That’s insane, I would have been happy if they just had really basic trophy loots, but the fact that my killing felt meaningless took away a lot of the fun.

With the new map, during phase 2 after the initial event there were hardly any players around for me, only one or two kinds of karka are soloable and they retook the camps really quickly which meant that as a lone player running around, or even with the ocassional other player, there was nothing we could do. We weren’t powerful enough to take down the veterans, we weren’t powerful enough to recap the camps…

I loved the jumping puzzle! It was really difficult at first but once I got the hang of it I really enjoyed it.

As someone who loves running around doing map completion I actually would have loved some more Vista’s and PoI’s. I understand not including Hearts, but when almost every other map in the game has had hearts when you have a map without them it suddenly feels very empty and a little pointless. I haven’t reached Orr yet with my level 70 character so I can’t say if the same problem exists there or not?

I loved the design of the new zone, running through it with the Lionguard in the initial phase was great, I loved running into each of the areas and being pleasantly surprised by the beautiful scenery.

You paid for the rights to play a game… That right exists regardless of which client you are using. The point is that Arenanet have said that the game is available to play on OSX, and regardless of the fact that the client is in beta, the game has to be playable in order to be serving the purpose that it was paid for…

What you are pretty much saying is that all we have paid for is access to data on the servers, but thats ridiculous, you pay for the right to play the game. Anet have a list of technical specifications and they are actually very understanding people… If a product does not function as advertised or as a consumer is led to believe then they are entitled to a full refund, replacement or repair – refund being the viable option here..

I live in New Zealand where we are a day ahead of half of the rest of the world, that meant that the event started on a Saturday for us (thats great right, like what you wanted?) But you have to keep in mind that now all of you get the finale on a sunday which is great for you, while those of us in earlier time zones are stuck with a 9am Monday finale… Which obviously isn’t very helpful xD.

I’m just pointing out there is absolutely no way for them to set times up to please everyone. Oh wait… Stop making ridiculously time constrained events -_-… Halloween I could understand, it’s just one day a year so you don’t want it lingering for all that long. But there was absolutely no reason this couldn’t have been a week long event. The most obvious place to go actually.
GW2’s official wiki is amazingly comprehensive because it is community managed – as in, hundreds of people all compiling relevant information together

Yeah, these are actually blue and yellow coloured dyes – to match with the amour colours of the new Consortium NPC’s around LA. xD

Also, I always thought it was con-sorsh-ee-um (with the ee sort of swallowed and short — con-sorsh-mm), not con-sort-ee-um.

No no.. It is and always has been pronounced con-sort-ee-um.

Why does GW2 Run under 20 fps ?

FlamingFoxx.1305

As far as I am concerned my system requirements should be enough to run the game on minimal settings. But I get <20 fps no matter what the settings are. Can anyone help me please?

Guild Wars 2 makes heavy use of the GPU and CPU. You’re using an integrated intel graphics card, so unfortunately performance isn’t going to be that great.

Macbook decharges the battery while playing GW 2 ?

Do you mean that the battery goes up to 100% then while you are playing it drops down to 94% and then starts charging back up to 100%?
If that’s what you mean it actually has nothing to do with GW2 at all.

Your macbooks battery is a Lithium ion battery and with Li-ion batteries they last a lot longer and run better if they are always either draining or gaining power, they don’t like sitting on full or sitting on empty. Apple purposefully programs OSX to drain the power a little bit after a while of being on 100% because it isn’t good for the power to remain at a constant 100%. This is completely normal and expected behaviour so don’t worry at all

2 theories on the sylvari

Perhaps Pale trees spawn Sylvari to spread across the world to look for a suitable place for the the Pale trees to plant some baby seeds? xD.

I’m almost of the mind that the Pale Tree’s are in some way a creation and therefore there isn’t necessarily a ‘natural’ logic to their production of Sylvari… I mean, why would there be a ton of seeds in a cave? (Unless the Sylvari turn into seeds in time, in which case I envisage a very sad group of Sylvari huddling together in a cave and then turning into seeds )

So Excited I'm about to Lose it!

There is certainly some rampaging going on here too.

But also some sadness, because we will be just-another-gear-grind-MMO as of today

But I’m sure the many good things will outweight that one very, very negative thing!

It’s not a gear grind and all of you scare mongers need to stop complaining about this. For starters they’re only introducing TWO pieces of ascended gear at the moment, and it sits above Exotic and between Legendaries, so it actually reduces gear grind. Just be excited for new content and the opportunity to advance your character. Or would you rather get your exotic gear and then stay there for the next few years -_-

Upcoming map event

The event itself is one time, but the zone itself is permanent. They want the event that introduces the zone to feel real for players, so that they feel as though their actions are working towards something concrete. There is a clear schedule as well and multiple parts to the event so it isn’t something they can really extend.

You’ll still get to experience all of the new content at your own leisure anyway, so I wouldn’t worry about it too much.
