I don’t think you need to level any class to 80 if you just want to “get the feeling” and just want to try them out. 40-50 is pretty much enough. After that the basics of each class don’t actually change anymore. Yeah they get new traits and additions but if you hate playing the class at level 50, you will still hate it at level 80 too so there is not much point leveling anymore.

what i think of PPK

in WvW

Posted by: FogLeg.9354

FogLeg.9354

PPK has no effect on the overall score. Its nice to have but to be meaningful it should give much more points for each kill.

*Explaining why it has no effect: By Friday scores reach 200-300k, same time number of kills in most populated tiers reach 40-50k. Which sounds great! But if every server in same tier has 40k kills it means the overall score has 0% change. Also servers with highest kill count have also most deaths. I would guess it is possible for server to earn about 10k more kills then other servers in same tier, which gives them extra 10k points. That is about 3% of total score. In lower tiers and for most servers the total change from PPK is way below 1%.

People who bought GW2 before HoT had different improvements. Those who buy HoT get masteries. The fact that some work in main Tyria is irrelevant. You could argue same way that everyone should be able to use elite specs because those work in every map too.

Super borring / repetitive - need advice

- Movement way too slow + too much walking (i cant TP if i dont have the WP obviously)

Yes. GW2 has huge maps and way too slow movement speed. Nothing you can do about it really.

i was playing Blade and Soul for a week when it got released and then returned to GW2 everything was moving in slow motion. Once you have unlocked most of the WP system, you don’t run that much anymore, just from closest WP. But you still move slowly-so-very-slowly.

I never considered quests boring or repetitive. And I have completed the map many-many times with all my alts. But then again, it took me over a year to get first alt to level 80.

I recommend Guardian as first class. You wont die much at all and your dps in general PvE is still good. And they have great group support if you want to go WvW, PvP at max level. They also got really good elite spec.

Or Necro, also really versatile class. Eats enemies like butter, has basically double HP bars, and is very strong in every game mode. You can build it as tank or as power dps or as condi damage.

This post is primarily a message to the developers showing the problems most players have and why they have them.

Its fine to post your personal opinions about the game, even when I disagree with you. But when you state these “are the problems most players have”, I really need to ask you to prove this claim. How do you know what “most players” think or how they play or what they consider problematic in the game?

guild hall upgrades?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: FogLeg.9354

FogLeg.9354

The whole point of claiming your own Guild Hall is to get your guild work together. Put a message up to the guild that everyone please try to join on epic guild hall claiming event. Give them enough time, like a week, in advance. looks at this as opportunity to get to know your guild members, to chat with them, to help each other.

I mean there is not much point just claiming the guild hall, think about long and painful process of upgrading it later and leveling up scribes. These are not possible to solo anyway.

Damage Help?

FogLeg.9354

To answer the question: which does more damage – twohanded weapon or using main hand and offhand weapons?

Short: Its complicated.

Longer: Yes, the twohanded weapons have more base damage. But they also have usually slower to use or have longer cooldown or shorter range. Since your weapon skills change depending type of weapon you wear, damage is based on those skills. Not even the damage as number shown on the skill but you really should also consider casting times, cooldowns, extra conditions or boosts, how it works with your utility skills etc etc.

Since you can usually swap between have 2 sets of weapons (except engi and ele) it is common to have 1 ranged weapon and second close range weapon.

Last we fought Ruins of Surmia they did not have zerg for an hour. Their max was 5-6 players for an hour. And max 1 player for all the other times.

At the bottom EU tiers both Underworld and Arborstone have zerg in prime time. In EB map. For few hours. Pretty much nobody goes to BL maps and there is perhaps group of 4-5 players capping throughout the day without ever seeing enemies.

First servers to manage multiple zergs in several maps. Maybe Gunnars Hold and WSR?

FogLeg.9354

It is very difficult to pick one class for other player, as things you enjoy in the game can be fairly different. Some players want to do most damage. Some players want to make sure they survive. Some only play open world PvE content, others do mostly champs, or fractals or PvP or WvW.

If I would just trying to pick some classes for you:

  • Elementalist is capable in every game mode, but be prepared to learn how to switch between fire/water/air
  • Necro is really strong, nearly unkillable. It has several really good builds (power, tank, condi, minions)
  • Ranger is probably easiest class to play in PvE as they rely on their pet and have strong ranged damage. Their elite spec, Druid, is the only proper Healer class, very useful for endgame group content

I find other classes a bit lacking, but surely there are many players who completely disagree with everything I said.

Why don't certain champ bags stack

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: FogLeg.9354

FogLeg.9354

If you think the excess of bags is bad, imagine if there were no bags at all, as in they automatically opened and it was seen as dropped loot instead.

That would improve the game dramatically. Just gimme option to auto-open all bags, salvage all the garbage below rare and deposit everything to bank automatically.

Its not just the fact HoT maps have huge number of bags to open, none of those contains anything useful. They all full of pure garbage.

Its not that HoT stats are bad, just they cost too much. Because many people avoid HoT maps, required items (Maguuma Lily, Black Diamond, Vial of Linseed Oil) tend to cost small fortune.

This is the necromancer who got stomped..but before he got totally discouraged and went to Orr to do map completion there, he did open up quite a few waypoints.

Necro is one of the easiest classes to play and I have done a lot HoT exploration on my necro. Yes, even solo. If you want to have laziest build that pretty much allows you to stand there and hit attack skills and never-ever die, its called million minions build.

The basic build uses the idea that you run around with many-many undead minions. Its the Minion traits from Death Magic 1-1-1. Then you add Life Siphon damage from Blood Magic 3-3-3. Third spec is up to you but if you got reaper unlocked, I really recommend Augury Of Death for improved shouts.

Now fill the skill slots with every minion skills. If you got reaper, “Rise” is must, its really-really good and allows you to stand in the middle of enemy groups while adding more and more minions.

Weapons – whatever you like! You will be doing mostly life siphon damage that ignores armor. Staff+ GS is really good. Or Axe+WH. Use what you like most.

Armor – you will be playing as tank, not for damage so stack up on Vit and Toughness. You can use Power for third stat so your attacks hit a bit harder or Condi Damage for that lovely Deathly Chill trait. But mainly its about Vit+Toughness.

Sigils – Leeching and Hydromancy work really well. Just keep swapping wepon. Runes – again, anything that adds Vit and Toughness.

My fault for not being a young whippersnapper with young whippersnapper reflexes…

Yeah, tell me about it..

I understand how you feel and I pretty much hate every map in HoT for same reasons. However, I have managed to all my elite specs unlocked and raised all HoT masteries to one level before max.

So, maybe you want to try out WvW map for some Mastery Points. Even if you are not into WvW, there is EotM. Its boring as hell but if you manage to get into train there, it is easy xp and every time you gain WvW level you also gain items that allow you to finish MP in HoT without even going there. I have characters that finished ALL HoT mastery insights before entering first HoT map.

Once in Verdant Brink, the area of course is completely unsoloable. So, you really want to find commander tag and follow the group doing events. You should be able to do first event chain around Shipwreck Peak Waypoint and also reach Jaka Itzel village in the North for second event chain. Depending what time you play map could be completely empty, if that happens and no players are doing these events, leave and try again later. But there are also maps that have 4 commanders and are actively trying to reach max tier.

I wish I could tell it all gets easy and fun once you level up HoT masteries. Sadly, it doesn’t. Exploring gets faster once you have gliding and jumping mushrooms. Some enemies are easier to kill once you get stealth detection. But its still pretty much same mess through all these maps. Mobs that randomly kill you. Events that are undoable without running in zerg of thousand other players (and getting bored for only using auto-attack).

There is a problem with many skills/attacks/effects becoming non-visible once particle efefcts get turned down. Currently for example in any larger fight DH bow 5 creates invisible walls that block your movement. I think it is pretty difficult to turn down only “useless” effects and keep meaningful effects always on. If you get rid of everything your probably end up in most battles thinking “I am taking damage but I have no idea why” and “I am dead but I don’t know who killed me”.

Also I am fairly sure there was large part of “community” who have invested in high end PCs asking for more effects.

I’ve only leveled three crafts to level 150, thinking I would craft my own gear and weapons. But so far, I’ve spent about 10 times more to craft things then it costs to buy them outright. OK, so I leveled a bit while doing it, but not enough to make the expense worthwhile, and there are backpacks. Is there something that I’ll get from crafting that I’m not seeing yet?

Crafting is easiest way to get ascended armor and weapons. Other then that, no, there is no point.

Druid Rune is not worth for Ele since the Ele Glyphs have way too high cooldown (and are pretty useless). It is ok for pure glyph Druid who has Glyphs on 20 sec cd so can keep this extra Healing up basically all the time.

Story mode in raids?

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: FogLeg.9354

FogLeg.9354

Anet has not mentioned about any plans to include easy mode for raids. Some sort of difficulty nerf may happen in the future ofc, as has happened to all content.

I expect there to be huge gap between players who do raids every day (week?) and find them too easy and players who try them once, find them too difficult and never return there. Its fairly pointless to throw huge resources into content that only fraction of playerbase can enjoy.

I couldn’t get past the Challenge of Strength in City of Hope. Tried grouping with friends and group finder, but every attempt was a wipe. On top of that, most events in the new areas ended in wiping. Has anything changed since? Better survivability builds?

You can do it with either better dps or survivability. All builds are viable for that mission, if you need help feel free to message.

Except sustain builds, as you cannot heal from any source.

Sustain builds can still do damage.

Problem with sustain builds is that they take longer to kill enemies. The way that fight is designed, you really want to kill the spawned mobs as fast as possible so you wont have to dodge those whirlpools so much. Longer it takes to fight = more whirlpools will appear = more chance some will appear under you.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

FogLeg.9354

No, you are not missing anything.

Do what you like to do. At that level pretty much everything gains you xp and you do not need to grind for ascended items for some time. Explore the world, if you enjoy that. Craft, if you like (tho it is mostly waste of gold). Experiment with your skills, traits and weapons.

There is no need to rush into dungeon at the level the dungeons require. There are no major rewards in dungeons and you can always do them later with your level 80 character with all the skills and traits unlocked.

Both PvP and WvW can be really bad experience at your level since you probably die. A lot. Again and again.

What you can do, is join some world bosses. They appear at certain spots in specific times so you should check counter first (google for gw2 world boss timer or just look here https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/World_boss). Many players gather up to these and they sometimes drop nice stuff.

Crafting Item Level Help

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: FogLeg.9354

FogLeg.9354

Sure, Weaponsmith can craft weapons for level 5 player. Thing is, you don’t need any special weapons at level 5, you level up so fast that you would need new weapon every 15 minutes. And the stats on weapons at low level are very similar no matter how much “better” one weapon is. Unlocking and learning all those new skills and traits you gain has much more effect then any weapon.

Honestly, green weapons are fine at least up to level 60 and after that you can pick up some rare (yellow) weapons from TP for few silver.

I don't like the elite specializations

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: FogLeg.9354

FogLeg.9354

It feels to me that, to be as comparatively effective as everyone else, you are forced to use the elite specializations. It has been a while now and it seems like everybody is still using them in pvp and pve. They were hyped as a different way to play but they just feel outright better to me.

Yes. Its called Pay-To-Win. You can play GW2 for free but you will be weaker compared to other players who payed for the HoT.

Rumormill, the core specs can fight against the elite specs too. Player skill can make up the difference. The game is still B2P.

Maybe for you, not for me. Our WvW guild raid uses DH, Reaper, Chrono, Druid, Scrapper and Tempest. We do use Warriors without Berserker, and no Thieves or Rev.

So, it’s 6 elite spec and 1 normal. Based on that I would say HoT is not optional, and elites are required.

It is possible you play different gamemodes where any class can be useful. You did not specify that so I gave an example about elites being superior and required for success.

Be patient.

I have seen no indication that “WvW specific balancing of classes” is even considered. What has happened, is that skills/stats/items that originally behaved differently in PvE and PvP have been combined into single behaviour. I expect PvE to be main target for every class balance in the future too.
