How does increased HP bar improve those bosses? It just takes longer, thats all, its still boring as hell and you still only press auto-attack to get it done. You just will be bored for longer and press auto-attack more times…
Selling Silverwastes Shovels for Bandit Crests would be a huge mistake, and would severely reduce the number of people actually playing the zone as opposed to farming chests. It’s very intentional that the Shovels are only available as event rewards.
So, if people stop playing the events, where are they all going to get those Bandit Crests from? I have no intention to farm any chests there as they contain nothing interesting, I need shovels to throw them away into guild upgrade. And I need many-many shovels. Many more you can ever imagine. Currently I am sitting on thousands of Bandit Crests that have absolutely no value to me, how would allowing exchanging them into shovels make me only farm chests or avoid playing the zone?
Ah, my mistake, sorry.
Good points, and you are too kind toward Anet. These should of been implemented/fixed before HoT was even released. Half a year later and still nothing has been done. Shame, really.
Just ask the Customer Service.
Well, I like the gliding part, in all maps. Also some of the elite specs are fun.
And what else… no, thats it.
Yeah, 5k Bandit Crests here and nothing to buy. I would spend them on Shovels and throw those into Guild upgrade if possible.
We don’t use Revenants anymore. Wells Necro and Staff Tempest can do same thing better and are much more fun to.
LOL you’re not just a minority in this thread, but likely a minority in the entire WvW game mode as well. You also mention that you don’t like to run pure glass back liners. But ironically, glass Heralds when traited properly can tank just about as well as many a front liner. Let me guess… you were part of the “I hate everthing about Revs and their kitten CoR” army rampaging through here before the hammer nerfs, hmm ? ;-)
Guessing is difficult work, and you are not even close, so perhaps stop trying
Successful WvW groups adapt to the changes, bugfixes and features quickly. Those who stick to the old versions that worked last year will lose the fights. There is currently no reason for us to run Heralds aymore, does not mean we did not run them in the past or will not run again in the future.
I guess you did not manage to read through my entire post and rushed to reply with silly guesswork, but go back and try again. I mentioned this system works for us, and I gave the size of our guild raid. They could be useful in much bigger or smaller groups, in which case you could reply with actual example.
I personally have doubts about your claims for Herald being able to tank as well as Guardian or Reaper, but if it works for you, go for it! It would also help if you could describe the potentially superior Herald build compared to Guardian or Reaper tank, as I expect every class to be traited properly.
I admit CoR was way too strong, had way too low cooldown and no real cost. It had to be nerfed, no question. Was it nerfed enough or nerfed even properly? Not sure but this reveals real problem with Heralds – any class that relies on one single skill or trait is going to be in trouble when that broken skill gets fixed. And beside CoR Heralds have little to offer, their energy system is a mess and utility skills mostly useless. I mean half their legends are never even used by anyone. Ever. Good example of bad class design. I don’t hate Heralds, if fact I would love to play one again but I will also not use them untill their biggest contribution are flashy skill effects.

And how do you see it?
Yes I have read that 3 years old comment. It proves that was how it was suppose to work many years ago. The game has however changed a lot since that ancient times, HoT for example could of changed whole RNG system or how the map meta rewards work. Not to mention frequent bugs in the game that could make something work in completely different way.
I was hoping someone actually has done real tests about this in current game.
I have completed world 9 times already with every class and enjoyed every minute. Why would I want to skip that much fun?
Seriously, EotM is NOT WvW, it is a bad parody, I too spent total of 15 minutes there before running away back into real WvW. If you like WvW, you will hate EotM.
As about pretty much everything else about your post, I disagree on most points and have completely different opinions about where the game failed. But I wont spend next 2 hours typing it all up here since you probably have no interest to argue about it forever
These claims about what MF affects and what it does not are very difficult to prove. It mostly goes with whatever way you believe it works.
So before asking question about its usefulness, you first need to provide proper test results. Are pop-up chests, map-wide metas and map currency not affected by MF? Prove it.
Perhaps it is better to contact ArchonWing about this in private first?
That said, if I was to pick my zerg I probably wouldnt even use them. Heavy guards, warrors and engies up front, light warriors, guards, engies, revs and thieves in the back. Yeah yeah I know, maybe you go “wtf is he mad?!” but I have a very special way of thinking. None of this is random, though some would be specifically elite specced and have certain skills and weapons to complement the others.
Interesting… Thats how I guess most guild groups start, they have some mad idea and try to fill the group with builds best suited for each role. Not every idea works out ofc
I think this thread is mostly about “generic zerg”, probably filled with many pugs and not with specific classes built for certain role.
There are no servers in PvE. Everyone from every server are all sharing same maps in PvE.
Your server ONLY matters for WvW.
I just wish they would make all the crafting account-based already.
The effect of each upgrade per person is the same regardless of guild size, but the cost per person is lower for bigger guilds.
Think you made typo there: its same per guild.
Anyway, pretty sure Anet already mentioned they are “looking intoways to reduce cost of some HoT recipes”. Or was that just in my dreams?
What is DR and how do you see it?
Having them account bound is a way to sell more of those tools when players get bored of switching them betwen characters. Anet needs to earn money somehow, this just allows them to sell more gems.
I doubt players normally switch between characters several timer per day so its not really that much trouble to get tools through bank.
Druid is great class.
I sort of agree that DH has too much ranged damage (and DH traps are buggy and stupid and broken), this should be nerfed.
Pretty much disagree on everything on OP. In WvW guild raids we never used Rangers before HoT, only Rangers and Thieves were so useless they never got a spot. Yes, there was always a lot of people playing them and asking to join our guild. I get it, Ranger is great at soloing PvE stuff or roaming in WvW. In group fights they provide nothing.
Now we have been bringing in Druids. And they are actually not bad at all. I am not saying they will replace every Guardian and Necro but with group of 15 bringing 1-2 Druids is working our pretty well. They will survive well enough to not die at first contact, they provide a lot of group healing and condi removal and they still manage to throw out damage and CC enemies.
So, Druid have turned one of the worst, most useless classes into something ok. Not the greatest, but ok. They on same level with Scrappers or Warriors. And I would say they are more useful then Chronos atm (not going to mention Thieves who just do not belong to WvW).
If you want to discuss useless elite specs, surely there is nothing worse then Berserker. Its not even that Berserker is somehow bad, its just completely boring and pointless, adding nothing to the base Warrior. In fact, Warriors are only class we now run without elite spec in WvW raid (again, forget Thief, with or without elite).
Remembered this thread when a thief jumped on my Reaper during our last WvW raid. I was gathering some stuff and group moved a bit forward so I was running on my own not really looking around or anything. So suddenly I get enemy Thief on me (I looked up from battle log later, was using Backstab), hits me few times and I start to get annoyed a bit. Eventually I stop running and start to hit him back, he starts to run away, at that point, while I still had 80% of HP left, I went to reaper shroud and mowed him down.
Our frontline Reaper build is obviously tanky and all that. But still. Thief did 1k damage on the best attack, I did 4k per attack. And no, I am not some sort of super-player with reflexes like lighting and mind as sharp as new knife. I am old and slow and sometimes already sleepy at those evening raids.
Anyway, I remembered this again when enemy group of 20+ did surprise push out from the tower we were passing by and I had to fight through all of them on my Reaper back to our main group. Even my raid leader said he looked at me and I was completely covered by angry red enemy names, already down to 20% HP and considered me dead before fight even properly started. And yet, I did not die. I did not even go down, I admit I had only few % HP letf at some point but I still recovered.
So yea, if you want to survive, play Necro/Reaper or Guardian/DH or Ele/Tempest, these are all great. Scrapper and Druid, also good. Now I have doubts about Warrior, Mesmer and Revenant, not that they are useless but they all somewhat situational, good at some fights, struggling in others. And then is Thief, don’t play it, just don’t (in WvW, specially in group fight).
Depends if you consider 900 truely “ranged” or not.
We don’t use Revenants anymore. Wells Necro and Staff Tempest can do same thing better and are much more fun to play.
We also don’t run pure Zerk Glass Cannon builds since your backline is never truely able to avoid damage. Enemy will try to eliminate your heavy damage backliners first and if you can not survive enemy attacks you are just dead.
But I guess it also depends on the size of your zerg. We very rarely get more then 15 players into raid and usually fight enemy groups of 20+.
There are times when my server has been in a match-up dominated by another much more populated server. Usually when this happens the stronger server takes EB and holds this and their own borderlands as a minimum. They then pillage the remaining borderlands whenever they get bored.
Thats so true. We have been in the matchups against servers with much more players for very long time now. Some weeks SM never flips even once. The EB is always first to go and the idea suggested in this thread would mean we can’t even attempt to take anything in other BL maps. Or, you know, be spawnganked forever at EB.
You are not required to use any of these programs to play GW2. And btw, they work with every other game too, so if you use TS while playing game A and you use it when playing game B and then you play GW2 its already there in your computer, ready to be used.
Everyquest 2 does it and it works well. This would make coordinating between players of both pve AND pvp so much easier. As is, you need to have multiple programs downloaded since not everyone uses the same voice chat services.
I have yet to find anyone not being able to use TS.
The main problem with this suggestion is that Anet should spend lots of time and money and developers/coders/testers for this addition. It means there will be less content added to the game itself, less bugs fixed and less weapons with unicorns pooping flowers for us to buy with gems.
And these voice chat programs actually exist already, players are using them and they work. So, no, there is no need for this.
It always amazes me how many angry people run around posting meaningless shouts without any ability to read and even more, understand, any written content. While I am sure they all have greatets builds, eyes and fingers ever seen through the history, its the brain that has obvious trouble processing information. Who knows, could be because all the energy is spent on shouting angrily at everything and everyone, or for example, that it is just missing.
It is very unlikely GH upgrades will be much easier to achieve for 2 main reasons:
- Whole GH upgrade system is designed by Anet to reduce number of guilds in the game. They want to get rid of small guilds with few members and end up with very few huge guilds, but are too afraid to simply delete small guilds. So, they designed a system which makes it pretty much impossible for small guild to have meaningful upgrades in GH.
- Every player in guilds already upgrading their GH since HoT release will fight mindlessly against reducing upgrading cost because if they had to suffer badly by pouring mountains of gold and mats into upgrades and grinding months in silly PvE maps to gather all those account bound items, why should new guilds have easier way.
Players have been getting an edge in PVE with all the new skills and perks..
lets buff up the monsters a bit
Steam Monsters + Immune to Poison & Bleeding
Skeletons + Immune to Poison & Bleeding
Elementals + Edged Weapons half damage
Ice Imps & Ice Elementals + Immune to Frost/Cold/Iceetc…
Stop ruining the game for everyone else. If YOU feel the game is too easy for YOU, do first some or all of the following:
- Only play through the game using WHITE equipment. Every weapon, armor and trinket of better tier can not be used
- Restart the game every time your character dies. Delete it, empty the inventory and bank and start from the 0.
- Consider all the items in the game soulbound. Nothing can be sold or bought, nothing can be swapped between alts
- Play the game without keyboard. Or mouse. Or both!
- Solo everything.
I will quarantee the GW2 will be surprisingly challenging. You will spend a lot of time struggling with main Tyria content, and because of that you will obviously enjoy it a lot more. The best part is – it is still not ruined for every other player, its just you who will struggle with it.
I dont mind it. We always try to start with oasis when enemy has turned all the maps green, it saves time banging down these tier 3 keep gates. Never had any lag there either.
Wait? What? You mean in the event system or on the Lord itself?
My biggest gripe is about story mode where you have to solo. Did the developers actually play these through with all classes? Some classes are much weaker than others, and it is very frustrating to die over and over because the mobs all focus on you and the damage is outrageous.
While I do agree on general that HoT maps are full of annoying and broken monsters, I never had any problems doing story mode. I do play all 9 classes and everyone was able to do story, sure sometimes I died on some silly jumping puzzle bit but in the end i found some of the LS2 bosses more challenging then whole HoT story.
Reaper is really strong atm.
Other then that, not sure what you want to do in the game. Getting character to level 20 is not very high level and you probably never even unlocked most skills or traits.
WoW, how lazy can you be… It takes only few days to complete the whole map. Plus you get all these lovely chest keys while doing it.
I tend to do map by map progression (moving to next map when I have done almost all content of previous one). I have done all meta events in VB and AB, but I lack MP’s to feel comfortable to do the last two maps and I suck in stupid arcade games.
Ah, fellow map completer
Thats how I do them too. I finished every single thing in VB until moving on to AB (ok, I do have this one achievement about maxed tower to do yet). And only when AB was finished with 4 different characters, poked my head into TD. I have done Chak meta there 3 times by now but even my most played char has completed the map only about 50%.
Thanks Kiza, I have WvW raid during the 20:30 version but I may try the earlier map. Again, thanks for helping out
The main thing I was trying to say earlier, I stopped caring about it. I very rarely can play at specific times and even then its mostly 15-20 until I have to take break again. Only WvW raid lasts longer.
Have you tried gw2community

The contested waypoints in PvE maps are designed by same flawed logic that also gave us those new WvW Borderland maps (commonly known as Walking Simulator 2.0). Whoever made these thinks that best gameplay is about moving slowly from point A to point B.
3. The ‘Dev Mode Banner’ tactivator:
Wait, there already is one called Dragon Banner. You want another?
I honestly hope it was not my FoW server spawncamping you (if it was, I am sorry, and there are bad players in every server, in that case, which guild was it?). FR is the one usually owning whole map and they have built rows of trebs near our corner too, shooting people at the spawn.
I feel sad that we in FoW have had no real 3-server fight for several months now. In tier 9 we were dominating over UW and BT and as soon we got into tier 8 RoS died and we only had one, much larger, server to fight (WSR or AS or FR).
About your actual suggestions… I dunno. Players who have worked years hard to get their legendary items probably want to show off. I understand there is a problem when new players want to try WvW with their green equipment and get demolished by some platinum tier enemy on full ascended/legendary set with best possible stats. Yet, I am not sure equipment is only factor, even in PvP players get sorted into different tiers according to their skills and time spent there.
I was only pointing out that map-wide population is perhaps not only or the best way to create more interesting and fair fights
And if you think its bad for Desolation, I can also recommend to try joining FoW for some really bad situations. I know how it feels to be outnumbered and I also know how it feels to totally dominate over enemy server. I don’t like either.
Just I don’t see outnumbered buff very useful and I doubt tinkering with it will change anything much. Instead why not try something totally different?
Lets say there is map-wide Big Bucket of XP and Rewards for your server. Every time someone from your server completes events like capturing objective or killing an enemy, everyone involved takes some from that BB. More players = more is taken. Bucket will slowly fill up over time, but its slow and if you run around with large number of people it will get empty pretty fast. Once its empty, you earn nothing, no xp, no items. But your BB will be filled up fast when enemy does something, when enemy takes objective and earns xp from their BB. I believe most mindless blobs stop running when there is no rewards for them. This would effectively remove reason to run around in huge zerg against very few enemies, because nobody in that huge zerg would eventually get any rewards from doing that. However, if all 3 servers are about equal and all actively fights and do WvW stuff, there will be endless supply of xp and rewards for everyone.
In the end, players from overpopulated servers would start to leave and transfer into less popular servers simply because there is more xp and rewards for them to earn. Which is what we all want = situation where most if not all servers are somewhat equally populated and have good chance to fight against any other server.
This will also remove much of the problem with nightcapping since people capturing those empty maps would gain nothing and would just be wasting their time to increase server tick. I am sure some would still do it but hopefully it would become less popular.
Well, I tried couple times when HoT was released and stopped caring about it when I understood how stupid the system is. Havent bothered for months now.
If you are rich enough to craft so many legendaries, you can also exchange game gold for gems and get more charactare slots.
Beta was running in isolated server where all the items you earned had no value and you lost everything once it ended. What would be value of such limited beta server when deciding about HoT? I am not sure what you are after, do you just want to see the new HoT maps or just try the new skills elite specs provide?
Thief is always dead, no heals, no real condi cleaning. Does not matter how much their damage is boosted, if enemy is not dead after first second, thief will die.
Funny how my thief is generally the last player alive…
Hints:
- Use marauder armor, not berserker
- Learn to dodge
- In long fights against threatening enemies, use passive heals based on your damage (spec Critical Strikes for instance)As for the condition removal, DD can cure movement impairing conditions in a blink of a eye, and Hide in Shadows can cure the top 3 damaging conditions (burning, bleeding, and poison). And if that’s not enough Signet of Agility can cure one more.
If you’re looking for monk-style healing, yes, thieves suck. But if we’re talking about survivability, they’re amazing. If you’re skilled enough to play them that is (don’t take that personally, I’m just saying it’s not a class for everybody).
I should point out that I only play WvW and do guild raids there. No thief will survive the group fight there. I imagine you are talking about some other game mode, and I am not going to argue about those since I have no intereset on those.
Even then, try to look things at slightly wider point for a second. The general question about heal/sustain does not mean there is not single very specific build with very specific items/equipment that could survive for little longer compared to some other class. It is about how difficult it is on average on any class with average builds and cheap items. Consider all the possible builds, in many different game modes. It may require you to play perhaps more then one class for some time, but its worth the effort when making these claims.
Since PPK no matters for total scoring, I suggest the following change:
If you kill an enemy who has outnumbered “buff” on, your server gains no points.
You have 3 servers. Server A has 100 players on the map. Server B has 50 and gets outnumbered buff. Server C has 60 and does not get outnumbered buff. If server C kills player from server B, they do not get points while the number of players is almost same.
Next situation. Server A has zerg of 90 people taking keep in one corner of the map and 3 people taking camp in the other corner. Server B has blob of 25 people with outnumbered buff ganking those 3. Even when those 3 manage to kill 5 enemies they get no points because their server has zerg somewhere else.
Why are the new HOT runes not available in wvw for badges or proof of heroics? It is sad that I have to farm a specific HOT map if i want to use a rune in a totally unrelated game mode.
These are HoT content and you can do WvW without buying HoT. So stuff that requires HoT will never appear in WvW merchants or every free account could start farming those.
