too much of WoW.
and what we REALLY needed was another WoW.
We were sold this game would be different. We were sold no gear grind. We were sold a load of crap and told it was steak.
Seriously if any game deserves a refund, this is a stellar case. The game we have is NOT what was being sold.
smack..Wut?…smack…smack…
Skipped.
The amount of resources, time and energy put into changing the game to a gear grind should be evident enough your feedback is not only useless, it is not regarded.
Did they ask players in advance on feedback on these measures, or did they spend all that time and energy rerigging the game only to mention it about 3 days before it was unleashed?
Take a hint, they do not care. It is their game and they can wreck it however they want.
As for me I do sPvP now, got about 1-2 more weeks before I jump the game entirely. I was so enthusiastic and supportive of this game right up until the farce was revealed.

15% to sell, 15% to buy. Enjoy.

Just more ingenious methods to preclude many from participating.
You would think they would think these things through, but alas…
smack..Wut?…smack…smack…
You can just tell from the feel of things this game is driven by economics, GW1 was driven by passion. At least the first 2 years of GW1 when I played you got the sense the devs were actually playing the game.

Same thing happened in D3 OP, the similarities are breath taking.

Also, the feeling I get that ANet doesn’t realize the popularity of WvW and isn’t dedicated enough to it.
Simply put they are not going to bother. They have decided on this gear tread mill and invested to much time and effort to change course back once again.
They are trying to make the BLTC a requirement and paid tournaments as well. They are missing the boat completely, they seem incredibly desperate.
WvW has a big draw, one of the biggest in the game. Exotic stats should be the cap, bring your ascended/legendaries but they should have stats capped at exotics to keep the playing field levelled. Anet has simply turned a blind eye on WvW and they will pay the price over time. I have virtually lost all motivation to play this game, have another in mind just need to drop 20 bucks and I am out of this joke.
smack..Wut?…smack…smack…
You want your voice to matter? Speak with your $$. If you spend money supporting Anet, you are doing a diservice to yourself and others who feel as you do.
I paid $60 for the game, was enthusiastic enough to buy it early for the headstart. I paid another $50 in gem cards. Then this gear tread mill happens. Not one cent more will I ever spend on any product from this company, EVER. I did the same thing with WoW, if anyone cares to say I will not follow through. Oh do I follow through.
When I feel I have bought and paid for something I am sold given statements that later are made contrary I get even.
smack..Wut?…smack…smack…
I expected exactly what was being sold, and after 3 months of being baited it got switched.
1. No matter what environment (Dungeons, PvP, WvW, PvE) the gear was supposed to be the same, the stats would be the same. This is not true, you can not get some stats on PvE gear you can in PvP, some PvE gear is divided up in Dungeons, Karma and Crafted/drops (for stats).
2. There would be no gear tread mill. This was switched, now gear grind is a part of the game, something I specifically did NOT want in a game I was buying. Something that was specifically stated would NOT be in this game. Yet, here it is.
3. Pay to win would not be part of this game’s online store offerings. Yet now we have the newest gear grind goodies, Ascended gear, that will require the mystic forge and according to their own words, even more future additions. This requires Mystic Stones, coins, etc. If you aren’t lucky enough for them to drop, you will have to buy them. Pay to Win.
When I buy something I expect to get what I am paying for, not lied about.
smack..Wut?…smack…smack…
(edited by GOSU.9574)
Mystic Forge required to play Gear Wars 2. Feed the monkey, pay to win.
This is the new model, get on with it.
smack..Wut?…smack…smack…
To late to tell Anet the error. They have made a decision, it is implemented, they will stick to it. Like I have said many times recently 2 years from now they will look back and admit the mistake. They pulled the ol’ bait and switch on me. Never again. I keep my promises, I will not spend one more penny on anything this company produces. Finger in my eye? Finger right back.

You never go full MF gear
The point of the post is many people DO go full MF set.
smack..Wut?…smack…smack…
I say play your own gender, but in the end its up to you.
Yes, play your own gender, and your own profession. No one will believe you are a female plumber after all.
smack..Wut?…smack…smack…
The obvious choice is boobs, unless you don’t like boobs? I am not sure what to say if you don’t like boobs…
If the deciding fact was that, then norn female would be the only option.
Except they have a horrid sound set to endure. I just got my Norn Female Guardian to 80, hated the sounds. The “Uhhhuhhh” when the get knocked over….horrid.
smack..Wut?…smack…smack…
Why would they bother to balance wvw when you can take Legendary and Acended gear into WvW and not s/tPvP?
smack..Wut?…smack…smack…
Gear scaling. Yes, scaling. Sure you can still grind to get the materials to infuse/enhance/blahblahblah, so there will still be “Progression”. However let me extend the notion that it have no effect to enhance equipment outside of the required environment.
For over all world, wvw, etc. Everything above Exotic is scaled down to Exotic. Period. When you enter an environment where your “enhancements” were meant to be needed/desired, they kick in and take effect. Let’s say for example there is this never ending dungeon…
First few levels Enhancment X is needed to progress further with moderate difficulty. Next few Enh X becomes extremely difficult to progress further with alone. This is okay cause you also have Enh Y, and that makes progression again moderately difficult. and so on…
This is about the only way I could be sold on this new “Progression” move by Anet. We all know it’s thinly disguised gear tread mill, but let’s not punish what appears to be the MAJORITY who do NOT want this and were sold on the fact it would not be in the game.
smack..Wut?…smack…smack…
What many are missing is it was stated, one might even say in a flippant tone towards other MMOs that have grind, that there would be no grind since there wouldn’t be a pay subscription driven by the grind. Yet here we are, with the grind put into the game to keep players coming back to NOT pay a monthly sub but Anet hopes to buy junk off the BLTC. It’s the same deal, the deal they said wasn’t necessary, that this game would break away, be different.
It was a BAIT AND SWITCH.
Once units were sold, here you go, get to running the new tread mill. Buy stuff from our store.
Now they try and say its sorta like this one shot deal, but if you read recent statements they plan to release MORE gear upgrades. Now they won’t even admit there will be no future tiering. They just rename it, it’s repackaged as PROGRESSION.
They sold out. They did the ol’ bait and switch. Admit it, and they should as well.
I won’t buy any future Anet products, I won’t put any more money on this game. Just like with WoW and previous games, once I feel the company has lied to me, I speak with my money.
smack..Wut?…smack…smack…
Okay AN heres the thing. Ascended and legendary gear needs to be scaled upon entry to WvW to exotic stats.
Not only could I not agree more, this has been my exact thoughts on how to make the niche minority who want a gear grind happy while keeping a massive amount of the population who enjoy WvW happy. It also allows you to bring in the legendaries without being penalized and not being able to or having an edge out of the non-niche farmers/grinders that bought this GUILD WARS GAME for the PVP.

Colin Johanson
“Most MMOs these days make you grind and do really repetitive, boring content over and over again. There are moments of fun, but then you’re back swinging your sword over and over again, chasing around a moth or an ogre that’s standing around in the world doing nothing. That’s the part of the genre we think players are done with. We want to make something that’s better than that.”
So with that in mind, how is grinding for dungeon tokens not grinding? Or the new gear tread mill not a gear treadmill?
Linsey Murdock
“… we don’t want to overlook the basic need for players to feel like they are progressing and growing even after hitting max level. Adding item progression is a delicate process normally undertaken in an expansion, but we feel it’s important to strive to satisfy the basic needs of our players sooner rather than later.”
So now we don’t have a tread mill, we have “progressing”.
Does anyone else feel many of the original selling points to this game have been changed after launch? Bait and switch?
smack..Wut?…smack…smack…
I disagree. Even though I am totally against this looming gear tread mill being forcibly imposed, I do not agree with your weak premise.
Up until now I have enjoyed this game without needing anything from the BLTC. Now recently I did buy Gem Cards, but I only did so for cosmetics and a bank expansion, and I didn’t need any of that, just something I chose to get.
Unlike D3 where in order to succeed you had to use the GAH/RMAH, you do not have to do so in GW2.
smack..Wut?…smack…smack…
I am down for Two Handed Axes,
For a class I’d like Monk also – yet make it a support class not really a healer. Yet retain gw1 monks by giving their damage based on smites and can even make them a bit kung-fuey!
No profession should be relegated to the function of Support only. I am guessing you didn’t intend for it to come out that way, but it does. I believe you meant the same thing I did, give them a good strong support role but also a good, strong melee dps role.
I like the idea of bringing smites back, excellent idea for a new, revised Monk.
Weapons could include Wraps (just fist fighting), Staves, sticks of various types (current game maces). 2h and dual hand varieties. Long Sword, Sabres, on and on.
They could even be masters of “Improvised Weapons” and have a utility or utilities that sorta “summon” rocks, sticks, etc., based on current environment.
smack..Wut?…smack…smack…
IF there comes a time when a new class needs to be introduced I am hoping for a Monk. Not a GW1 Monk, the fighting enabled type that could also have a support role or slant, but not a healer.
Bard I like but I would prefer to see something more along the lines of DAoC’s RvR buffing Bard type.

I can go through all the professions and tell you where your trying to force the trinity when there is no need for one.
You are missing the point entirely. If you are gonna enforce a gear grind into this game when one is not needed, might as well bring the trinity back as well.
Can’t see the forest for the trees. This applies to your post and to Anet’s gear tread mill.
Not missing the point considering there is no gear trendmill. You misunderstood the their post and didnt read it completely i bet
Gear tread mill patched Nov 15, not sure where you’ve been hiding.
smack..Wut?…smack…smack…
I think it’s close enough in time that this post may be relevant. There was a brief glitch last week that did cause some accounts to be blocked in error. The situation was reversed in a matter of hours and the accounts were reinstated. That may be why TigerBite was back in the game without a response to his/her ticket. (In other words, the situation was reversed before the ticket was acted upon.)
If you were blocked last Friday, October 12, then that post could apply to you, and you should be back in the game. But if you were blocked on another day, you will need to file a ticket and then Support can review your particular situation and attend to it.
Has such a glitch occured again? Friend of mine (game friend not RL friend) just got terminated for botting? If he bots he is kitten good cause when he is playing we are at least chatting if not doing the same events.
He just emailed me about this as I was checking my mail to mail him, I kept seeing him “log in” and when I would message him I would get the message he was not in game followed by a message he was logged out. This is all very fishy and now I get concern there may be some erroneous misdirected bannings given out?
smack..Wut?…smack…smack…
Might as well do this. Gear Wars 2 after all.
Fixed.

I totally agree. but don’t you find it weird this post is more entertaining then the game it self right now?
No, actually, let me surmise it for you properly. The fate of the game for what is obviously a large portion of the players of the game that visit and contribute on these forums is at stake for that population. If you go over this thread, which now has over FIVE THOUSAND replies, you will find an overwhelming majority are disappointed to extremely disappointed with this move by Arenanet. The very fate of this game is at stake for those players.
I, for one, will no longer support this game if Arenanet charges blindly ahead with the gear tread mill they stated would NOT be in this game. I can’t speak for others, they have already spoken. It’s all right here in this thread.
smack..Wut?…smack…smack…
“those who don’t are just as powerful and get to have fun too.”
Enhanced.
smack..Wut?…smack…smack…
Might as well, since Anet has decided the premise they sold this game under no longer holds water.
smack..Wut?…smack…smack…
Was it simply to sell units? I bought the follow up to Guild Wars because, well, it had Guild Wars (GvG). This game doesn’t have that, so is it just selling units off the previous successor’s popularity?
This is a legitimate question, I would like to see an official response though I highly doubt I ever will since the direction now being taken further removes this game from it’s PvP roots.
smack..Wut?…smack…smack…
Anyone else find it disturbing that the overwhelming majority of posts concerning this is negative yet they “did it for the players”?
Very, very sad. Again, 2 years from now they will conclude it was a huge mistake. 2 years to late.
We don’t need a tier system in this game. This game is not WoW, it will never have the draw of WoW’s raiding game. They have caved in and sold out, Anet has. Very, Very, Very sad.
smack..Wut?…smack…smack…
The game I was sold and bought is not the game I expected based on that information.
I am sure 2 years from now Anet will look back at the train wreck and try to fix it, at that time I may return. I have already been let down by the incorrect info on Gear being the same across all formats (it is not, some stat combinations are not available in PvE and some are not available in PvP, I was sold this bunk that there would be no repeated gear grind, this new ascended crap is proof of that bunk).
I think they lost their vision along the way over the last 7 years.
Where is GvG in my GvG game?
smack..Wut?…smack…smack…
Grinding has DR, even farming nodes, and it seems to be account wide. I use 3 characters to farm nodes in Frostgorge and the DR hits after 1 or 2 cycles. Thats pretty sad.
So no, grinding is pitifully weak a thing to do at 80 due to DR.
smack..Wut?…smack…smack…
As Xuz has mentioned some in this thread have moved the discussion off into the weeds with WvW isn’t PvP isn’t PvE. That isn’t the discussion.
The discussion is:
Why aren’t the same equipment stats available across all formats?
It doesn’t matter if you don’t understand why someone wants their PvP gear to be the same as their PvE, or vice versa. That isn’t the topic. The topic is why isn’t such available? What is the reasoning behind this limitation? There is no sense to that.
If I can have Power/Prec/Vit in PvP, why can’t I have that in PvE?
It is just as nonsensical that the Karma sets for Cloth, for example, can have Power/Vit/Toughness on everything except Leggings? For Leggings I have to earn tokens from a dungeon (AC). Why?
Plain and simple, for me, Crafted (PvE) should have the stat options of ALL formats. All types. PvP, PvE, Drops, Dungeons. PvP gear should have all options from PvE (I assume it does as I don’t s/tPvP).

At level 40 you have made far more than 1.2g. It’s how much you spent that matters.
Half the battle of having money in this game is in spending it wisely.
You can farm mobs, farm events, farm nodes, try and play Trading Post Tycoon, etc. Just some advice (that may or may not apply):
Stop buying Dyes. Only buy armor every 10 levels while levelling, only buy weapons every 5+ levels if you don’t get decent drops. Benefits of certain runes and sigils aren’t significant enough to upgrade to a higher level rune/sigil, majors will often suffice over extremely costly superiors, etc. Don’t Waypoint everywhere, only when absolutely necessary or a huge time saver.
smack..Wut?…smack…smack…
While waiting on this game to be released I recall reading the end game gear between Drops, Crafted and PvP would be identical stats-wise which gave me much rejoicing. It meant if you preferred PvP you didn’t have to grind PvE to be competitive, you didn’t have to do instances in order to have the same gear stats.
Well that became an illusion on release. There are differences between Dungeon, Crafted, Karma, Drops and PvP. Very piss poor design, have to say.
smack..Wut?…smack…smack…
Dunno about server count but you can usually get on any server in the early hours. During the work week the early hours are not 4-6am, that’s when pre-work players log in for a quickie. Usually between 7am and 9am are best.

The chests will no longer offer them up after the 15th of November. So the supply will be limited from that day forward.
If you mean will they remain in game once obtained, yes. They aren’t gonna vanish, that would cause a major outcry.
smack..Wut?…smack…smack…
Recently in LA there was an NPC attacking another NPC for no damage. They were near the dungeon vendors. Asura was casting and a Charr was being hit. Later when I went by they had stopped.
This also happened once in the outpost north of Jelako. It’s just some sort of bug.
smack..Wut?…smack…smack…
It’s easier to nerf something than to fix the deficiencies of other professions that lead to whining, complaining and crying. Often the nerfs end up being the wrong changes.
Be that as it may, those who crutch heavy on a mechanic will bring attention to that mechanic even if it isn’t over powered, simply because so many will start using it instead of not following the herd. This will lead to misleading data gathered by Anet, as many will use the simlest route and that route will tend to dominate the data.
The same people that say roll something else also tell you to roll this or that class since they won’t get nerfed but buffed (Rangers and Eles tend to be mentioned the most).
Just play a character you enjoy.
smack..Wut?…smack…smack…
I am just gonna toss this in since I think more than one voice should be heard, and the OPs voice doesn’t speak for everyone.
Aspects of the game and what I like to play/enjoy will differ from other people, just as the OPs does. I know many players who like to do dungeons, who like to do completions, who like to explore, who enjoy the Personal Story, who like to Craft, who like to Gather materials. I don’t enjoy any of this, but that doesn’t make me say this game has issues keeping me entertained, or a lot of the game doesn’t peak my interest.
What I do like:
I like to level characters, learn the skills and traits for a profession, try out various builds, some copied some my own. I don’t mind doing hearts and dynamic events but they aren’t overwhelmingly exciting to me. Eventually I like getting my characters to max level, gearing them out, transmuting armor bits I like on my characters, pvping. My end game is PvP, but I have done almost nothing with it so far.
I think this game is very good overall. I think a lot of touch ups, bug fixes and balancing can take it forward.
Not every game is for every one. If you do not like enough about a game to want to play it, instead of forcing yourself or in some cases continuously posting negative posts because YOU aren’t happy, find another game. We don’t all like Monopoly, I know I don’t. Do I play Monopoly? Nope.
smack..Wut?…smack…smack…
I see you painted in a mustache and eye patch as well.
That “eyepatch” is an engineer’s headpiece from character creation. It is possible to transmute it over better head armor all the way to 80 exotic.
That particular eyepatch is also available as Medium armor in the game, no reason to go transmuting from another profession. The goggles from creation of an engineer are not available otherwise as far as I have seen, though I could be wrong on that one.
smack..Wut?…smack…smack…
The solution is for Anet to bring about server-shared maps. Other than the human maps, most pre-70 maps are very dead with the exception of some bot trains running around.
Anet needs to come up with map sharing. 3-5 Servers sharing the same map would help bolster the pre-70 maps.
smack..Wut?…smack…smack…
I hate Steam and having games associated with it, it causes far more problems than any benefit I can see to using it. I have no idea why anyone likes associating their games with such a subpar service.
smack..Wut?…smack…smack…
All the players are at level 80.
While that’s a bit of a generalization, it is why many maps seem devoid of players.
I play on Blackgate, having started there during Headstart I left for a couple of weeks to another server and that server seemed very devoid of players. I recently managed to get back on Blackgate and it does indeed have a much larger, active, player base.
The general problem is lower level maps (pre-70). Human maps do better than other races, but all suffer after level 40. Anet needs to incorporate a shared map system where several servers share the same maps and thus populations on those maps would be much higher. 3-5 Servers sharing some of these maps would go to great ends to balance out the population issues. Higher level maps do not need this balancing, that is where everyone is now.
smack..Wut?…smack…smack…
No way, not thanks, not ever. How much spamming Gold Sellers do you want in your game?
Anet already has a method for doing free periods, typically over a weekend during certain special periods (going by my experiences in GW1’s first 2 years from release).
smack..Wut?…smack…smack…
It’s a simple matter really. It first loomed it’s ugly head when Anet produced Nightfall. In Nightfall some of the out of town travel instances were so full of high density roaming, overlapping mob packs you had 0% chance to make it through the instance without dying 2-6 times, and in that game each death lowered your stats and damage by 15%. Anet WANTED you to experience death, it was a given and one of the reasons I did not support the company and buy the last expansion.
Fast forward. Anet wants and expects you to at least enter a downed state OFTEN. The game is geared/rigged this way. They don’t want you facerolling content. They developed a downed state with downed skills. They want you to experience this, they want you to endure this. It is part of their “vision”. There is no “trinity” so you can enjoy this.
It’s that simple.
