I am not sure that I will be able to find out the answers to your questions, Starfall, but I’ll see if the devs are able to tell me the details you’ve requested.
(As a GW veteran and official Life of the Party and Incorrigible Ale-Hound, I’m thinking about going for the beverage thing myself. )
The show recording is available on Twitch VOD:

We’ll post the YouTube video later. And I’ll update the archives now to mention all featured artists.
Thanks for contributing and for watching!
A message from the PvP Team:
Leaderboard decay for the Guild Challenger League will be enabled beginning today. Leaderboard decay will help ensure that only active teams remain at the top of the leaderboard. Guild Teams will begin to lose rating if they go longer than seven days without playing a conquest match in Ranked Arena. After seven days have passed the team will begin losing rating at a set interval each day. The rating lost from decay is permanent. If the guild team plays one game of conquest in ranked arena the decay timer will reset.
Hey there,
There are a lot of comments and input about the Winter’s Presence rare collection achievement.
This thread has been created so that you can share your questions, concerns, and feedback. I’ll apologize in advance if the comments in the four or five merged threads that form the basis of this thread lose some level of cohesiveness. However, with one thread, the designers have a much easier way of reading your thoughts, and I think that outweighs any possible misordering of comments.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts!
P.S. If you spot other threads that might properly reside within this general feedback thread on the Winter’s Presence collection, could you please give me a link, so I can tidy things? Thank you.

An Update from our Balance Team:
As developers, we try to push certain aspects of gameplay that align with our vision for the game, but unfortunately things don’t always pan out the way that we hoped they would. A current example of this is the bunker meta that has formed in PvP over the past two weeks across all tiers of play, from Amber Division all the way up to our Pro Leagues. We’ll be honest: we’re not happy with the current meta, and it certainly doesn’t do a great job of showcasing the things that make Guild Wars 2 great, namely our action-based combat.
While our post-HoT balance strategy is to deliver a major balance update every quarter, we do want to emphasize that if glaring issues arise during seasons we won’t hesitate to address them. To this point, on Monday we announced that we’d be making a few mid-season balance changes. After lengthy internal conversation driven both by discussion on our own forums and on other platforms, we have decided to implement one more additional balance change with this week’s update.
Mesmer:
A fair number of gameplay implications can arise from such a seemingly small change, so we want to be very clear with all of you regarding our intentions. First and foremost, we understand that this change may have impact on other areas of the game, and that is precisely why we’re viewing today’s change as a short-term solution. We’ll be revisiting all skills in our end-of-January balance update, and we’ll be sharing the specifics of the planned changes with you in early January. In the interim, because this skill will be classified as "no-cap”—meaning that it does not contribute to capture point progress—we’d suggest that you keep an eye out for mesmers using this skill in PvP matches, as they could potentially cause you to decap a point in a way similar to the stealth function. The change to this skill will now also prevent you from interacting with certain channels objectives, such as supply piles in Stronghold or the Meditation buffs in Temple of the Silent Storm.
This change will be included our in hotfix later today.
Bug Fix:
Hey all,
You may have seen today’s blog post announcing the next edition of Community Showcase Live. For those of you who want the Cliff Notes, the show will take place at Noon (Pacific) this Wednesday, December 16th at Noon Pacific time (-8 UTC).
As always, I’ll post up an archive of the art that we feature. And if your Wintersday art was not featured this year, please know that we definitely will review this year’s entry when putting together next year’s show and it may be featured then!
Hope to see you during the show!

A message from the Balance Team:
As mentioned in our “Road Ahead for 2015” blog, our strategy for adjusting the meta-game in Guild Wars 2 after the release of Heart of Thorns focuses on releasing balance updates on a set cycle – each and every quarter. We began this cadence with the release of HoT in October which undoubtedly changed the way that the game is played across all game modes. In the weeks following the launch of HoT we made a number of tweaks to elite specializations as we began to notice trends that did not align with our design goals.
Today we stand about a month and a half since Heart of Thorns was released, and once again we feel it is necessary to make some adjustments for the overall health of the game. This week we will be making a few changes to address some emergent gameplay that has cropped up across multiple game modes:
General
Mesmer
Revenant
As a note, not all of the changes listed above will be in the first build on December 15, but instead in a hotfix that will happen shortly afterwards.
Balance itself is an iterative process and our work will be ongoing. We’re taking a hard look at the ways players are experiencing content across the game (raids, fractals, open world, PvP, and WvW) and we’ll be making adjustments accordingly.
Our next major balance update will be released at the end of January, and after the new year we plan on sharing the high-level details of those changes, giving you an opportunity to provide feedback to our design team.
This thread is intended to host player and forum member feedback on the topic of communication while leaving intact the thread that contains a listing of dev posts on Reddit.
We will try to merge in all comments that are not linking a dev post.
Thanks for your understanding while I attempt to keep both conversations helpful and focused.
The original thread — to which some of these comments refer — is called “Dev Comments on Reddit” and it can be found on this link.
Edit: For clarity.

This is awesome, Foghladha! Thank you for sharing this — we all can have fun with these recipes.
Hey Setius — is the last one a Norn? Seems so, just checking.
Love ’em all.
why the new Holiday themed Snowflake Glider cannot be gifted?!
My best friends account had been suspended for buying their own Gem’s from the Trading Post. So instead of her risking another account suspension I figured I would simply gift them to her since I had a spare 800 Gems on my account.Seriously not joking, their accounts were suspended for 72 hours for using the Trading Post to buy Gem too much. Can’t believe this is a thing but it is and now they rarely spend money for Gems anymore lol.
Hey Just: Did your friend submit a ticket about that suspension? It sounds really odd to me. However, I know that there are certain protections in place to protect us (and victims of identity theft) from the abuse of stolen credit cards. For example, if someone was “hacked” and his/her card numbers became known by a scammer, that person could purchase 100 upgrades and distribute them across 100 accounts before the credit card was officially flagged as stolen. So some delays are there to protect the card holder (and us) from invalid/bogus transactions.
But a legitimate buyer is always welcome to submit a ticket to ask for assistance and it’s usually given very promptly. We greatly appreciate the support that the player is wanting to give us, and we want that person to be able to get what he/she desires!
Hi all,
We’ve been closely monitoring PvP Leagues since their release this last Tuesday and we’d like to provide an update on where things currently stand. Some of this information is available in other locations, but it’s always good to have everything in one place.
Match Manipulation
There have been reports of players intentionally losing games in an effort to lower their overall matchmaking rating. The idea is that if they lower their rating, their subsequent games will become easier, and they will gain pips more reliably in future win streaks. Regardless of how unlikely this is to actually happen (read on for why), we’re still not cool with players intentionally losing as this is in direct violation of our Code of Conduct.
In the short-term, our customer support team will be investigating reports of this and punishing the behavior accordingly. Please use the “Botting” reporting option to bring these instances to the attention of our team. For a longer-term solution, we’ll be working on improving the in-game reporting system to better handle these types of situations. Chris Clearly has been posting on the topic here.
Queue Times and Division Matchmaking
As Evan Lesh mentioned on reddit matchmaking rating and division standing are both used equally for matchmaking. This is currently affecting both queue times and matchmaking, especially in higher divisions. The season has only been active for three days, so there are fewer players in the higher tiers, meaning less people for matchmaking in those divisions. This will correct itself as the season progresses and players begin spreading through the divisions more evenly. Related to the point above, tanking MMR for the purposes of easier matches isn’t feasible considering division still plays a large part in the matches you get.
Forfeit wins and pip loss
We will be correcting a bug where players can lose pips after a win if someone in their party had disconnected for longer than 2 minutes, causing a forfeit. This fix should be in our next release.
Guild Team MMR Workaround
Today we fixed an issue that allowed high-skilled players to constantly spin up new guild teams and have themselves matched with lower-skilled players because of how personal MMR and team MMR worked together. This gave them faster queue times, faster league progression, and allowed them to climb the Guild Challenger League more quickly than intended for each team created. As mentioned above, we’re aware of the longer queue times for high-rated teams, but this is mostly attributed to how divisions are factored into matchmaking and should be less of an issue as the season progresses. Additionally, we will also be enabling rating decay on the Guild Team Leaderboard after we have enough data to determine the correct values to decay by. This will cause inactive teams to fall down the leaderboard.
Pip/Point behavior is difficult to understand
You gain a variable number of pips depending on the difficulty your match-up (from -3 to +3). The majority of games (even matches) are +1/-1 for winning/losing. The odds of winning a match is based off of division standing between the two teams involved and roster sizes. If you’re heavily disfavored in a match-up (the system predicts that you should lose), you could potentially gain up to 3 points for winning. You also gain partial points as you cross point thresholds, so there’s always a reason to keep trying even if you don’t win. The system also works the other way around. If you’re favored to win, but lose, you’ll lose more pips than you would in an even match.
Now to the crux of the issue – it’s not entirely clear why you’re winning or losing X amount of pips after a match, as the odds are not displayed to the player. We’re looking at making changes to the in-game UI to communicate this more clearly, but this won’t be in for season one.
Vial of Salt
This amulet will be updated to correctly have ascended stats with our next release.
In closing…
We’d like to thank everyone for their feedback so far. Leagues are a complicated system and we’ll be iterating on it until we get it right.
Matt is awesome, I agree. And Evan is marvelous, too.
You might see what came from this: The first post went up earlier today, but with this, we have more tasty tidbits for your dining pleasure and it’s off to Localization for posting as soon as it’s finished (probably Monday). This includes our entire community of players in the news, which is always a great objective to meet.
Thanks for your patience while we prepared this larger post for you!
A message from game designer Matt Penebaker:
Hello all!
My name is Matt Pennebaker, and I wanted to reach out and say “hi.” As many of you know Linsey Murdock is rolling off of working on legendary collections as she is needed elsewhere. I will be stepping in and attempting to fill her metaphorical shoes (my literal feet are like twice as big as hers).
I have worked directly with Linsey for a couple of years on rewards, but I want to note that while I helped with early design of the legendary journeys, I was not involved in their detailed designs or implementations. This is important to get out there because it means that I am still familiarizing myself with everything that’s been done, and where things are hooked in to the game. So please, bear with me.
Here are some other updates for you about a variety of subjects:
The following are being looked at:
The following are fixed:
Kittenponded = who _ responded the filter doesn’t seem to count spaces, in places where spaces between certain letters would make a filtered word.
Ahhh, I get it. The infamous “word filter” strikes again! I already cannot use my favorite word for analyze, that’s six letters, begins with “a” and ends with “double-s” because it becomes kittenized. I’ll see if we can get these addressed, but quite honestly I don’t hold out much hope due to the way things are coded on this forum software. :-/
Whats “official” about a reddit tag? Does Anet hand them out? Does Anet control the subreddit? Its not official in any way and thats why they post there.
Agreed…this whole thing is so strange. I appreciate Gaile coming here, but in a way it seems forced, it doesn’t seem genuine.
Nothing forced about it. I found the post, I decided to post, I wrote the response, no man behind the curtain or forcing whatsoever. Not even pointing, suggesting, or hinting! I think we’re good.
Guys, I’m working with Matt on getting his post over here. He will add some additional information, and we want to localize it so that our entire community — not solely the one that speaks English — will get this nice and meaty info.
Forum posting is a voluntary option for developers. It’s great that Matt shared the info, and extra great that he’s working with me to share this globally and to share additional bits that he comes up with, too.
I believe we’ll be able to post up the fuller version later today in English, and provide a fully-localized version in French, German, and Spanish on Monday in those forums.
Thanks Gaile. Maybe he wouldn’t mind posting something in the howler thread over in the bug forum. We noticed his comment about possibly fixing it. Any official response in that thread would go a long way just saying. Thanks for your hard work.

I can ask about that. Wasn’t really aware that he was the one kittenponded, but if there’s info we can share, I’m sure he will.
Kittenponded? Oh Gaile, you and your corporate speak ;D
I know. What the heck was that? I just edited the post when I saw it, hoping no one noticed my horrible language.
Guys, these are still the official forums. I addressed the question of Matt’s informative post in this thread: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/On-Legendaries-from-Dev

Gaile… you know we don’t actually need a neatly sanitized press conference. We need your people in here interacting with the natives, frankly as often as you can entice them to. It’s fine if they have to bring a chaperone but you have to be aware of what the embargo-like atmosphere you’ve allowed to build up is doing to this space… namely poisoning it.
Nike — no one’s telling people they need to put on a suit and a tie before they post. Devs post when, where, and as they desire, with a very general and reasonable guideline, which Mike O’Brien shared with forum members a long while ago: “We don’t talk speculatively about future development.”
So please don’t believe anyone’s being told to muzzle it. Devs post and respond when they’re able to do so, and if they’re anything like me, they delight in that interaction with our players.

To celebrate Wintersday, a number of ArenaNet team members will be hopping into the game on Thursday, December 17th, from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM Pacific time. We’ll move between worlds and servers — NA and EU — and will join players in the various activities and festivities that take place during that beloved holiday.
If you are planning a player event for Wintersday during the afternoon (Pacific time) of December 17th, please let us know and we’ll do our best to join you for a while.
We also welcome your telling us about events you’re hosting or know about during other days of Wintersday, too! For as they say, “the more the merrier!”
What about music?
Music is always welcome. I actually came across a piece of music that I just love. It was created by… well… you!
The CSL show is mostly about visual art of all kinds, but I do want to find a way to incorporate music, as well. I was thinking a piece of user-created music would make a beautiful end piece or might be nicely dovetailed with a montage of images. If you have ideas, I’d like to hear them, but music is close to my soul, and yes, it’s definitely a desired part of the show.
(And thank you for your beautiful creations!)
i banked the ingot and it now shows up and allows purchase.
I have to bank each set of 5 i get.
Thanks for sharing that, Xabis. I’m sure that tip will help others, too.
Bug Fix:
When’s the deadline? I’m coming home from abroad on December 11 :/
We’re curating art now, and hope to have things finalized by December 8th or so. But worry not — we’ll be featuring art from last year’s Wintersday celebration, too! So if you have something you’re going to show, and if it doesn’t get posted by the time we need to lock down the list of featured art, it may very well be chosen for next year’s show.
Thanks for asking, and I look forward to seeing what you create!
SHEETS OF AURILLIUM… bugged since launch, cannot be bought. Needed for Astralaria and many other things.
Wanted to let you know this was fixed with the most recent live build.
Players on the legendary journey for Astralaria III will encounter a bug involving Meteorite Ingots. Currently the recipe only provides 1 ingot, where it is intended to provide 25. We plan to fix that recipe bug as soon as we can.
If you craft only 1 Ingot before the recipe fix, all is not lost. After the recipe fix, you may speak with Grandmaster Craftsman Hobbs in Lion’s Arch and choose the conversation option “I have misplaced a vital component for crafting my Legendary.” For a small amount of Karma, you will be able to purchase Meteorite Ingots in stacks of 5. Only 25 are required for this collection.
We wanted to let you know about this before all you legendary crafters run into the issue and as we said, we’ll get this corrected as soon as we can.
Yay
thanks Gaile! And thanks for the communication.
Any chance we can get an ETA on the Sheets of Aurillium not being purchasable?
I believe I heard a fix had been identified. Now, that probably still points to the need to test and verify, but I don’t think it will be a long while. This is definitely on the radar at many levels, as I feel sure it will remain until the issues are corrected.
Best of luck with the quest!
Here’s a post about this situation. Please read all posts in the thread, as there’s news about the ingots, about the Aurillium, and about the numbers required.
Thanks!
Hey guys,
The answer to the 10 or 25 thing is simple:
It’s 10 for one
It’s 15 for another
Total 25
Ta daaaaa!
Hello Ren,
Thanks for posting this on the forums, for as I explained in response to your PM, I get a lot of PMs and I think it’s nearly always most productive to answer questions on the forums, where the information is helpful to all players.
I have asked about the “husk blocking” situation twice. Here was my question:
Here are the precise answers that I have received:
So there are you answers, and I hope they are helpful to you and other players.
Oh. A-my. A-god. Thank you much, Gaile!
You bet — happy to help.
E-mail sent on the “10 instead of 25” issue tonight and we’ll try to get you info on that soon!
Actually, the left hand and right hand are working on concert. Please review the update notes, which will magically appear in a few minutes.
Preview:
Edit to Update for proof: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/info/updates/Game-Update-Notes-December-1-2015/5820320
If there are other issues, could you please outline them for me here? The devs are actively working on this, and I’ll be happy to relay other concerns. (I already noted the “says 10/not 25” situation.)

Good to see Anet weren’t hogging this Hero Point. It was starting to get rather boar-ing
Oh man, talk about hamming it up in the forums!
I wanted to remind the creative folks that we’re still looking for a lot of Wintersday art for our Community Showcase Live stream on December 16:
If you make it, we’ll try to show it, so….
Keep creating!
Fixed with todays patch. Thanks!
Thank you for making people aware that bacon is, again, safe for consumption. Well… sort of.
It seems kind of silly to let people speculate and get their hopes up about the fractal changes dropping today when you guys knew it was never part of the plan. A simple “It won’t be the coming with the December 1st patch” would have done.
To be clear, speculation isn’t something we can control, nor will we bounce into every thread that contains a speculative comment to try address it. We did not announce, and never planned for, a drop on December 1st. If you are disappointed, I really am sorry to hear that. I’m familiar with speculation — we had a lot of it as we prepared to release Guild Wars, Guild Wars 2, Guil… well, you follow my drift. It’s part of the nature of our sharing info about upcoming games, features, or improvements, that someone will speculate a date and that the date — even while never stated by us — may come to be seen as “obvious” or even “official.”
In this case, we wanted to share the news that good things are coming, but as in other cases, a date was not tied to that info.
I just checked with Production, and everything is on track to see the introduction of fractal changes later this month.
Hey all,
I know that some of you were thinking that we’d be releasing updates to fractals today, but that was not the plan. There’s still a lot of stuff coming in December — this is, after all, only the 1st of the month
-- so hold tight and you’ll see the fractal changes soon!
thank you for the communication, at least it was a bit quick (better late than ever).
But the frustration from many of us waiting for a fix to the rewards is over 9000!!!!!!
I understand and sympathize. I like what’s coming, but I do know it’s difficult to wait!

We’ve expanded the list of guilds that are helping us test raids.
Selected members of the following guilds will be testing:
These guilds were chosen through referrals and we are not accepting testing applications at this time. However, we anticipate that we will be expanding raid testing in the future to include more guilds and we will let you know when that happens.

Hey Community Creations Folks!
Lizzie and I just completed our third edition of Community Showcase Live on our Twitch channel. The show will be rebroadcast this afternoon and, most likely, again tomorrow morning Europe time, and the November Episode is now available on YouTube, where you also can find the September and October episodes, as well.
We wanted to be sure you knew a few things:
We hope to feature your art next time, so… keep creating!

Hey all,
Just a note to say that we’ve disabled one of the hero points in Auric Basin for a little while to allow the team to fix an exploit with—of all things—poisoned bacon.
The devs will get a fix in very soon and you’ll soon be able to acquire that hero point soon.
Thanks for your understanding.
We will be undertaking server maintenance this evening (Pacific time). We do not anticipate that there will be major issues, although a few players may experience intermittent disruption to chat, whispers, or to the guild or party system. Transactions and interactions with the Black Lion Trading Company and our purchasing portal (Buy.GuildWars2.com) may be a bit slower but all transactions will process during the maintenance or immediately following its conclusion.
The times are:
If you experience issues outside those temporary situations listed above, please post in the Bugs Forum.
~snip~ I did choose the Dreamer for the whole package…. And then someone at Anet decided to change the package (sound) months after I spent lots of gold and time on it.
I have only had the bow a few weeks, and I didn’t notice the sounds previously (in someone else’s ownership). Can you detail what changed? I’d like to ask about it. Thanks.
I’m a fan of Dreamer. It took me years to get it, but darned if I’m not thrilled with it.
The sound makes my ears bleed.
Ok ok, you guys. I was going to say something about how I wish The Dreamer had an option “Whinny/Don’t Whinny” component, but that seemed sort of rude, given it’s a PonyBow™ and I should be willing to take the whole package or not choose it at all.
I have only had a couple of occasions when I’ve been asked “Can you turn that off?” and once when I was asked “What IS that sound.” I do admit, it’s a little… noticeable. But the whole visual is so splendid that I’m ok with that small drawback. ( ~nudge~ Get the ranger ref? draw-back????)
I just want to point out that while I also find the sound to be a little grating, I love the Doppler effect you get with it. I can tell whether the person is coming toward me or moving away from me simply by the pitch of the ponies.
Subtleties like that really add to the experience.
That’s beautiful Roy. There are not many people who can use “subtlety” and “The Dreamer” in the same context. I love it!
Zodiac Longbow was my favorite before i had Kudzu .. bought it even 3 times before we got the wardrobe.
I love that one, too! I use it for my LB, since I have the other for my shortie
