Arcane Ressurection suggestion of applying the aura WHILE reviving makes perfect sense and will be in line with the other classes’ similar trait. I like that.

And about Arcane Precision, yeah I have to agree it is one of if not the most useless Grandmaster minor traits out there. Totally unreliable. Your suggestion for increasing the hit chance and not be reliable on crit is a good start and having an ICD would not make it totally OP.

I for one am enjoying Elemental Surge on my glass cannon staff for trolling in hotjoins. It’s a nuke ‘em all day type of playstyle wherein once you get spotted and targetted, you’re basically dead so you have to have that perfect sniping spot to rain down on your enemies while they’re busy fighting your teammates. Elemental Surge has awesome support with Arcane Power + Earth Attunement auto attack or Water attunement for the lock-down immob or chill and sometimes Air for the on demand blind. I really really like it. There are a lot of other combinations for Arcane Power + Elemental Surge which are quite tricky but very interesting to use. Although there has to be some sort of fix on the number of Arcane Power charges consumed depending on the skills since they vary and are somewhat inconsistent.

Your suggestions for the new Elemental Surge to apply auras on attunement change is way over the top and will be the most OP thing the elementalist will ever have. I think the primary reason why Auras on Signet usage only grants Fire Aura and not the element the Signet is based upon is because the other 3 auras are pretty strong especially when traited to being shared to allies.

Arcane Precision is a bit redundant with Elemental Surge. An improvement in the effects or the duration of the effect on Elemental Surge will make it a tougher choice against Evasive Arcana for builds that are not reliant on dodges. And a total overhaul of Arcane Precision will be very much appreciated.

This thread is for you guys to post potential builds given the patch notes for December. If we start early we can have something great when its implemented! Here is my early theory craft of a bunker condi build. My personal opinion on it is its a very selfish build, but you can get close to 2k condition damage if you use stack weapons. Good damage support and high survivabilty.

December 10th Elementalist changes

Build diversity for an ele as being shown in these upcoming changes translates to nerfing the barely viable builds the ele has and opening up the opportunity to create gimmicky however still useless builds. The nerfs to Water and Arcana trees are understandable if you really want people to move away from these two trait lines but the buffs the other trait lines are having are still not that good to justify the nerfs. You’re just gutting the already dead eles with these upcoming changes.

These changes would be fine by me and I would gladly opt out of Arcana and Water if the base survivability of ele is doubled. Try playing zerker ele with your proposed changes. Wearing a zerker amulet on an ele is an automatic one-shot from eviscerate it’s not even funny.

I see all the changes in the ele traits to be an overall nerf to the currently barely viable builds existing (D/D eles in particular, heavy water and arcana builds) and an opportunity to create more gimmicky, cheesy, however still useless builds via the other trait lines. lol

Focus- Flamewall

Might when passing through flamewall is overkill since stacking might with S/F is already so easy you almost always have 20+ might stacks when following your routine of flame wall blast blast blast blast.

I think a secondary skill activation like Temporal Curtain >> Into the Void type of thing as someone previously suggested will be a nicer touch though. It’s also weighing benefits whether you prematurely end the Flame Wall and get a nice effect or make it last to the very last second to keep blasting on it until your 25+ might stacks last for a week or two.

So you are not abusing scholar runes + vital striking while you are pewpewing at max range?

I think he wanted Arc Blast to have the extra umph with crit damage bonuses from Divinity Runes since arcane skills are guaranteed crits. I’m not sure if it’s a higher deeps than scholar runes and vital striking though.

Also to the OP. I’m interested in knowing more nice sniping locations in the maps that I am not aware of yet since being spotted by almost anyone save a bunker guardian almost always means byebye to a glass staff ele.

I’m not sure this was already suggested but if they are going to add new skills, what I would like to see is some AOE healing skill. I know some weapon sets have an over abundance of AOE party-wide healing skills but I just noticed that ele has zero team-oriented healing skill and I would like to slot for one when I’m using Scepter/Focus which have like little to no AOE healing skill.

Most of these aren’t necesarily bugs but some tooltip polishing.

Rock Solid (Earth VIII Trait) – Tooltip for Earth Attunement does not state that swapping to Earth grants Stability when this trait is used like how Elemental Attunement trait states the boons received when swapping to each particular element.

Elemental Shielding (Earth V Trait) – Tooltip for Frost Aura (Dagger OF Water4), Magnetic Aura (Staff Earth3), and Fire’s Embrace Trait (Fire IX) does not state the Protection granted when using an aura like how Fire Shield (Focus Fire5) and Shocking Aura (Dagger Main Air3) state in the respective tooltips.

Blasting Staff (Arcana VIII Trait) – Area of effect indicator (the aoe thingy before casting the skill) of staff aoe skills does not adjust to the increased size indicated in trait. But the area of effect rings of the skills seem to be as intended. But I think this is a very well known issue for so long now

Comet (Focus Water5 Skill) – The area of effect ring of this skill when used is a mix of red and white which annoys the hell out of me.

Please fix these although they are just minor issues and not really gamebreaking.

The forced instance is a very nice touch in order to fill-in players with what’s currently happening with the LS in an easier manner IMO. But yeah, when players want to experience instanced content in a party like the Personal Story content, it should happen. I’m sure you’ll figure out a way to handle this.

This is only the introduction. A build up. But I’m not saying you should get your hopes up.

But it’s a decent patch IMO. And forced cutscenes when entering the zone to introduce new juice in the LS arc is a nice touch for an easier way of orienting players and filling out important details about what is happening. Thumbs up!

Zerging is getting ridiculous

The solution is one and only – make them suffeer. They’ve tried to zergrush Tequatl and they failed. Make people think at least. When scaled up, give those PvE monsters certain painful abilities instead of just more health. Damage reverse skills, Boon corruptions, damage upon death, cleave skills which do more damage the more targets (not including pets, minions, illusions etc) hit.
Encourage people to think and make content able to scale to really himechanic ceilings. Simple dodge-out-of-1shot-red-circle mechanics can work sometimes and can be some beginning, but 1shot is usually poor design.
Certain rooms/encounters could have certain buffs/debuffs via area permanent effects or skills. Simple as that : temporary effects which prevent/punish you for boons or require striping them off from targets, that corrupt healing, reversing effect to damage, permanent constant ticking non-condition damage requiring performing certain actions to strip couple stacks of debuff..
Really tons of ways to get rid of mindless zerging content. If you keep the direction of Tequatl, slighty changed. Don’t punish people for running in big groups really, instead, punish them hard for running mindlessly to tag mobs. Make achievments less grinding, more exploring the content.
At first, those players may and will moan. Then, after some time, they’ll just change mindset, adapt and have hell lot of fun. Dear ANet, don’t waste your good mechanics!

Open world content whether designed as a Group Event or casual solo is fine when done by a handful of players but gets trivialized by a zerg. What becomes challenging is not fighting the mobs or the mechanics of the content themselves but the race to tag as many mobs as possible to get loot credit. They need to do some sort of anti-zerg scaling with all kinds of open-world content like what they did with Tequatl.

I like this change but…

The ones who farmed glory in skyhammer for weeks..
Did their rank reset or did they get banned?
Else this update has no effect on the ones that got their rewards and finishers already.
Still waiting for the update that will make the actual pvpers gain more rewards over the ones that exploited in skyhammer..

They mostly nerf “stuff”-gain after some time that others have a bajillion of the “stuff” already making those who farmed sit on bajillions of the “stuff” while making the gap between these farmers/abusers and the new/casual/farmphobic players even wider.

Simply accept the fact that you can faceroll with an ele once in awhile with any build you want to play around with. However, stay firm and have lots of patience in the reality that you’ll also get facerolled ten folds in return by doing so.

And guess what? You’re the only class with a double CD on a skill. That’s how unique the ele class is!! That in itself already makes you a winner in our hearts. We still love you no matter what!

Lots of cool ideas here that I’ve been using in my arguments as of late. Been pushing to adjust the meta quite a bit.

ah please please please please please do not remove 8 vs 8 games from anet’s hotjoin servers

If Custom Arenas can be purchased and maintained by rather inexpensive means, I think it is better for 8vs8 Standard Servers to be removed or changed to 5vs5. Custom Arenas will do the job instead and I am sure that there will be active ones.
Aside this, I hope tutorials can explain that things above 5vs5 will be imbalanced if 5vs5 will be the (main) competitive format, which it has been so far.
I would also not mind any toggle option for 5vs5 servers in the NPC Menu.

Also, 5v5 arenas should be on the top of the list and prioritized instead of the 8v8 zerg clutter mess that is. I know some people like 8v8 but in reality, they’re just zerg grinding in 8v8 since it yields more glory points than the standard 5v5 arenas.

And to the OP, I do love most of your ideas aside from Churning Earth being able to move when cast. IMO more skills should follow a similar fashion since it at least avoids skill-spam and requires a bit more thoughtful play and tricks and stuff.

You should send your CV to ANet and apply for a pvp dev position. You have loads of cool ideas that make sense. Special mention to Mimic skill for mesmer.

I was playing in the labyrinth yesterday fighting the lich and it occurred to be I had killed him about 20 times that day and didn’t know what he looked like because I could never see him.

I think I kinda caught a glimpse of his weapon. It looked like an awesome Scythe. But I’m not entirely sure though. He’s just covered in all kinds of particle effects all the time.

They are just OP. How do you even beat them 1v1? I run a spirit ranger and it’s just impossible to beat this petting zoo build. All they do is just stand there and let their minions deplete your hp and you can’t do anything about it.

It has no rep requirement, no requirements to join, no requirement to guest, no requirement to use voicechat.

TTS is available to all players wishing to participate. It is not some elitist guild. It welcomes all players with open arms.

This. I’m looking forward to more specialized groups and guilds formed solely for the purpose of downing World bosses ala raid style. Although the open world have some drawbacks in organizing such events, it’s fun to really work with players with some sort of organization and coordination.

They need to instance those bosses. Leave Jormag and Shatterer as they are and revert Tequatl to how he was. Make instanced, elite versions of those bosses which you can set up a guild mission to take down with their own unique rewards (and possibly guild commendations).

Shatterer is one goodlooking boss. But as long as there’s a safe spot where everyone stands and auto-attacks his foot to death, I could not agree with you on leaving that world boss as it is. I’m not saying I want everything to be super hard like Teq without some sort of coordination and such. Proper scaliing can and should fix that. I just want encounters to be much more active and engaging other than spamming auto-attack for the rest of the event.

Raid-like instances is a good idea, however GW2 should really strengthen it’s core which is dynamic open world events instead of making everything instanced. But that’s just me.

Please remove ICD on Cleansing Water and Glyph of Elemental Power.

Please remove the double CD on RTL.

Please remove the inability to cap in Mist Form.

Please bring back the stunbreaks to LF and CF.

Please delete Glyph of Renewal and Glyph of Elemental Power.

I could go on but as you can see, there are so many limitations/drawbacks on a lot of skills for the ele right now that they are so kitten at doing anything comparable to what other classes can do.

And warrior? An ele on par with warrior? You have GOT to be kidding me.

Although it is really annoying to die to heartseeker spamming thieves, they are not as annoying as they were a few eons back before the nerfs. There are a lot of other frustrating classes and builds to play against right now and heartseeker thieves is not one of them for me. And I play an ele too.

And about the 4v5 thiingy, yeah, matchmaking leaderboards and ranking are TOTALLY BROKEN right now and there’s nothing we can do about it, really. The devs said they have plans of improving these things. Let’s just pray for more patience for now.

A Key 'RTL' Problem

The problem with RTL was that ele had really high sustain to stick in a fight, then had mobility to get out then come right back.

They nerfed the sustain significantly, and eles mostly just melt, much faster than a real bunker: like guardian. After that, they nerfed the mobility too.

X/D ele can’t stick in the fight, and can’t get out, so they are just useless. This is why you see kamikaze burst eles see play: x/d can’t do anything else better than another class. Even general utility/support is better achieved with a guard or engie.

This won’t be fixed.

Actually this. They stripped all the sustain and mobility from the overhyped d/d ele a few eons ago and left the eles with nothing but mediocrity. Then they put all those now in warrior.

They should have trait RTL instead of adding the one with air.

Traited RTL:
Breaks stun / Immunity to immobilize / gives aegis

And then everyone ran Fresh Air D/D, and offhand focus was never seen again.

Offhand Focus has never been seen since it stopped blocking treb projectiles…

They love to nerf everything about ele when they see it being used effectively.

A little more about conjure weapon aura, If it seem too strong just make in active only with Master trait(20 point on that line).

For example
Trait Water X Soothing Wave: Un-picked Conjure Frost Bow grant cleansing aura (range 180) remove 1 condition every 5 secs, duration 30 secs

Yeah, I like that sort of aura thingy for unpicked conjures as a Trait since aside from Conjurer trait in the Fire tree, there’s not much useful trait for conjures to build around with. Well, except for the attunement specific damage bonuses which conjured weapons benefit from. But those stuff still don’t give a different purpose for conjures other than damage boost so it’s still meh for me.

Cleansing water did give good condi removal, but it has been nerfed into the ground and is even worse than guardian/warrior shout removal while being at the grandmaster level. I am not sure why there is an icd on cleansing water, and not on shout-removal. Regardless, this skill is no longer a grand-master level trait as it is so weak now. Either un-break it or move it down to master-level.

They really love to overdo their nerfs to Eles like what they did with RTL cooldown to the point that these skills and traits are not worth taking anymore. I mean, yeah, this and that needed nerfs, but not to the point of being entirely lackluster compared to similar skills and traits from other professions. Having 20 weapon skills does not in any way justify such low healthpool, low base toughness, mediocre base damage, and ridiculously long cooldowns and cast times. Now look at the state of eles. Do they seriously believe eles are still fine despite the fact that it has zero representation in any of the recent tournaments held?

Well at least they were successful at bringing the class into the “Jack of all Trades Master of None” category. Unfortunately nobody wants a class that can basically do it all but in a very very underperforming manner.

When trying to 1v1 playing an ele, use a macro to set up an OMG insta-kill combo to finish opponent. If it fails or does not leave the enemy dead, jump off a cliff or just wait for him to autoattack you and die.

When playing an ele and in a teamfight, try not to get anyone’s attention as you willfully cast AOEs here and there hoping to support some teammates or damage foes that occasionally will pass by your AOE. When you see more than one dude trying to focus on you (which happens a lot because you basiclly mean free kill to anybody), run for your life or Alt+F4 immediately.

Hope this helps alleviate your frustration number 1.

I know how you feel brah. Don’t worry, they said they’re doing something about the matchmaking, and the rewards and achievements system, and new game modes, and the balancing stuff together with additional skills and stuff.

I’m still hoping although each and every patch just breaks my heart into more tiny pieces. Right now, they’re the size of a grain of salt.

Play PVP for the fun of it. Don’t take PVP seriously just yet until all promises are in-game (expect them around year 2015 or so) or you’ll be really depressed and disappointed and all. But you’ll have more fun using the troll fotm specs than playing what you want, really.

  • Skins that take about 2 days to a week in PvE to not take 2000-3000 hours of grinding in PvP.

Also skins and other rewards that are obtainable through constant wins and awesome plays in tourney matches and not 200-3000 hours of grinding hotjoins.

And skins that are usable in PVE.

And no, I do not advocate the cheese S/D Fresh Air burst builds the eles have evolved into. That’s another stupid type of playstyle that should never have existed. The only reason they never became fotm because they’re a one-trick pony kamikaze type of play. Why would I want to play that if I can do the same amount of damage but with the added perks of constant CC pressure, sturdy body, and passive regen? Ha!

That’ll require more thought out plays and well-timed skill usage. Warriors will now lose their spammy potential hence rendered underpowered by everyone. People will move to the next fotm which requires less skill and more buttonsmashing with some facerolling.

Then you change the next fotm to be less mindless until you eliminate most/all of the brainless playing options.

Wait.. that would make sense.

That would have been the better option. But the devs keep on adding and improving brain-dead traits and skills like Dhuumfire and Spirit buffs which rely on auto-attack procs and spam creating new brainless playing options, so no. Mindless fotms won’t be elimitated.

They need to have more encounters that disadvantage pure dps.

For example, enemies that reflect damage but can be one-shotted by an attack under the right situation.

Or enemies that you need to constantly attack to make a time limit tick down until they self destruct.

These sorts of mechanics means that parties that focus on damage won’t perform as effectively in these encounters as other kinda of builds.

Well, ooze and lava thingy on TA new dungeon works like this in a way. But it requires thinking and timing and strategy and those sort of stuff so most players avoid it like the plague. They want mobs and bosses to drop fast and get shinies. That’s all there is to it.

And Unsteady Ground being ridiculously unreliable, if you cast even a tiny bit of it’s area under someonething foot it does nothing.

This. It doesn’t work most of the time when cast on some uneven ground surface or with environmental objects or something.

Simple, change Cleansing Ire to require a hit + depleted adrenaline to remove conditions. If you miss with your burst you get depleted adrenaline + no condi clear. Sucks for bad players but that’s what you get for not making sure your target is locked down before you burst them. It wouldn’t even be a huge nerf, you can still charge adrenaline while Bursts are on recharge and 3 condis cleared every 8s is already a MUCH higher rate of condi clear than any other class can achieve.

Ele used to be like this, good damage, good healing power, good mobility all in one and got nerfed to dirt.

Why war can still have all in one and no sign in nerfing ….

There’s not enough QQ posts yet to trigger the nerf hammer burst. It needs more adrenaline.
