Is Pressing Dodge & 1 Better Than a Trinity?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Galtrix.7369

Galtrix.7369

This game would’ve been so much better with a trinity. What people don’t understand is that a trinity actually takes strategy. For example: In WoW, I, as a tank, needed to mark the target I wanted to attack next and my party tried not to aggro mobs that were near that enemy. At the same time, the healer kept everyone’s health up while the dps positioned themselves so mobs that walked by did not attack us.

I can tell you right now that I used more strategy in WoW in 5 minutes doing a dungeon than I have in 3000 hours in GW2. I have never, ever been forced to resort to strategy to complete a task in GW2. Heck, I just defeated a “Legendary Champion” in Orr, (Which I didn’t even know existed), and it took 5 minutes with 6 people doing nothing but standing 10 feet away and dpsing their eyes out.

No, getting rid of the trinity just created more issues when it comes to picking certain builds. I rarely ever see a condition class, a support class, or anything else that isn’t berserker.

You’re complaining about an optional service you can even pay for by earning gold in game so no real money is required in an MMO that has no subscription.

Read that twice. Then apologize.

Yes, farm your 10,000 hours to get those 1,800 gems. Do you not know how much the price for gems go for nowadays? It’s like 6 gold per 100 gems!

That’s obviously not an option here, so Anet wants you to pay real money for that.

Read your post twice, because obviously you didn’t do the math, and in all honesty, I don’t even know if you’re playing this game because you know so little about it.

Read your post twice, then apologize.

Played diligently since release, but I’m more and more bored every time I log in.

Played WvW until I was sick of it. Same ol’ same ol’ every time. Zergzergzergzergzergblech.

PvP in this game just doesn’t do it for me. The implementation may be great for some, but for me it’s just a sloooow process, and gaddang I’m tired of point-defense. I’ll get my 3 matches for the daily now and then, that’s about it.

Fractals? I don’t always have 1~2 hours to devote to a sitting. This would be where I put my attention on those rare occasions, but then it’s super repetitive and has such low rewards per time spent.

So that leaves Living Story. I log in every two weeks, check out what the deal is, and binge until I barf, which takes very little time. I haven’t wanted an LS reward since those two wings backpieces (minis, c’mon, fer real), and the minigames – while fun for a minute – don’t seem to hold my attention. As far as the actual content goes? Meh.

So much seems disappointing to me.

WvW looks like it should be awesome, but somehow it’s built in a not-awesome way.
PvP just makes me meh every time. And living story is a nice thought, but the storytelling in this game just isn’t good (we all know that), and the content is just so weak most of the time.

You know what I really want? You know what loot of gw2 players really want?

An expansion.

But Anet doing their sorry to say, stupid limited time Living Story… they didnt really listen to players, and thats mistake…

I believe it was Colin that said they would have expansion-like-content delivered to us from the living story, and not through an actual expansion.

I agree with most of this, but I also believe that Anet has plans in the future to make more permanent content and better events altogether.

Anet doesn’t listen to suggestions, by the way. I’ve heard plenty of fantastic suggestions that weren’t even considered by Anet to be valid, yet the suggestions could’ve easily fixed many things about this game in a matter of seconds.

Acceptable time to get top Gear

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Galtrix.7369

I came from WoW, so they trained me to go after gear for months. I’m an extremely hardcore player, so my view of this could be slightly skewed. If I had my way, exotic gear would take at least 2 weeks to obtain, and ascended gear would take at least 2 months to obtain. (I think that’s a fair amount of time, because some gear took me about 6 months to obtain in WoW).

There used to be a ton of stuff in GW2 to complain about, but lately, with the new patches and content, there’s absolutely nothing to complain about.

Let’s start with what I complained about before these past few patches. Too few rewards and too crappy of rewards, gap of stats between legendary and exotic weapons, repetitive two-week content, and dungeon rewards.

They fixed all of that in two patches, which I think is pretty awesome. I’ve been having more fun in the past week than I had in an entire month pre-patch. They’ve been doing decently so far, and there are a few things that make me just want to stop playing, but let’s hope that the game turns out to be great instead of good.

More Tier 6 Resources

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Galtrix.7369

Galtrix.7369

There seems to be a huge lack of tier 6 resources in high level areas. Ore, wood, herbs, and other materials are really scarce in places such as Orr and almost all level 80 maps. I came from WoW where gathering stuff like this was common and there were high level resources available nearly every few feet. Then I came to GW2, and I can barely find 2 tier 6 resources in each map I travel to.

It’s sad that I get more Orichalcum ore just by salvaging green/blue level 80 items than by actually going out and gathering it myself. I don’t know, I kind of feel that the game would improve if I could go out and collect things that I can actually find more than twice.

What do you guys think? Are the high level resources as scarce for you guys as they are for me?

Worst thing that ever happened to the game!

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Galtrix.7369

…Is the AC gear!

I can’t believe that Orr is alive again! Can you believe that?! That dead island is blooming with life! People fighting avatars, champions, doing group events! And it gets worse… I’m meeting people all over the world! They are doing jumping puzzles mini dungeons and group events just everywhere! And the game feels alive… That must stop!

The worst thing is that they are using their crafting professions again! The same thing that they’ve used only to level up their characters! Horror!

And the WvW went from being absolutely and horribly imbalanced to absolutely and horribly imbalanced! That’s outrageous!

I hope that’s going to stop as soon as possible! And we finally get back to Mario Kart racing, crab tossing and collecting minipets!

Because playing the game as we should be is getting on my nerve again!

And you know what AN? Don’t worry that you lied and changed your mind again. From this:

How is introducing VP[Vertical Progression] respecting the player? Because it’s fun to be challenged and rewarded. Because it’s fun to have the character you play grow and evolve over time. Because ArenaNet (sort of) held a hard line against all VP with GW1 — no VP ever, year after year — and it wasn’t that fun. It was stagnant.
We use purely cosmetic rewards for things that would be outside the reach of typical players. I have an oft-quoted line about that: “If someone wants to play for a thousand hours to get an item that is so rare that other players can’t realistically acquire it, that rare item should be differentiated by its visual appearance and rarity alone, not by being more powerful than everything else in the game.”
Since you’re describing yourself as an average player and asking about average players, it shouldn’t be out-of-bounds for us to give you something new in the game that’s more meaningful to your character than a purely cosmetic change.

To never introducing new gear tier again!

But you know what? Just put your tail between your legs and get us back on track! Make the game dead again!

The sarcasm is strong with this one.

In my opinion, ascended gear was the best thing that happened to this game, whether the general population likes it or not. It made people go out into the world and farm for materials, and made them farm not only champions, but dragon bosses, dungeons, jumping puzzles, and everything else. Not only that, but it gave me incentive to actually level up my crafting, which I never had the desire to level up before.

i see a lot of high level scaled down players farming the low level champs in queensdale.this needs to be stopped.what can stop it is if gw2 makes it where the champs only drop loot the level of the zone thye champ is in.i cant even attack a champ in fear of high level players yelling your not doing it right you need to rotae the champs like us ad in farming.gw2 pls fix this

At first I didn’t like trains farming the champions in Queensdale, but after I saw how it was done, I enjoy it because of the insane amount of rewards you get. The pattern is simple. Boar, troll, bandit, oak, spider, and then back to boar. And you can get the Wasp too if that pops up.

If you do get yelled at, they have no right to yell at you for it, so you can just report them and block them.

But you really should try and join a train… you get a ton more rewards for it than killing one champ.

1H Ascended vs 2H Ascended...

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Galtrix.7369

Galtrix.7369

Well, for my thief who goes d/d primarily vs my ranger who goes sb primary…

It just feels like something is really off for one weapon setup to take double the work. I thought they learned this lesson when they dropped the badge cost and token cost of 1h vs 2h weapons:

Kodan Dagger: 300 tokens
Kodan Greatsword: 390 tokens

Invader’s Dagger: 132 Badges + 1g
Invader’s Greatsword: 198 Badges + 1g

And yet, crafting ascended weapons:
Dagger ingredients:

10 Pile of Crystalline Dust
5 Deldrimor Steel Ingot
100 Thermocatalytic Reagent

10 Pile of Crystalline Dust
6 Deldrimor Steel Ingot
100 Thermocatalytic Reagent

A difference of 1 ingot.

I’m pretty angry about this too, because I have to make two daggers as well. It makes absolutely no sense why it would take nearly the same amount of materials to make a dagger as a greatsword, which is 5 times as large. If it takes a lot more work than I think it will, I’ll just make a Warrior and create a greatsword instead of two daggers.

Fastest way to get essences of luck ?

1st – Why Queensdale ?

2nd – Won’t it be better(cheaper) if I just sell the rares / masterworks and buy the cheapest fine items for salvaging ?

FGS farm is superior to Queensdale. You can find a zerg train in SoR of at least 20 people doing champs.

It’s better than Queensdale because the loot you boxes you get are always exotic (unlike Queensdale where you get everything from white to exotic) and the materials are at the least T5 quality)

The only drawback is that you need to be fast and can’t have a slow computer. You need to load waypoints quickly since the champs can die in under 5 seconds.

It is superior, but unfortunately, my computer loads super slowly and I can never get to the champions in time. Even with the white loot boxes you get from the champs in Queensdale, you can still receive masterworks, rares, and even exotics from them. The only drawback to that would be that you don’t receive tier 3+ mats or ascended mats. But since we’re talking about Essence of Luck, I still believe Queensdale to be the best.

1st – Queensdale because people have farming champions down to a science. If all goes well, you can expect to kill 20+ champions per hour, and you receive a ton of loot from each champion. I get at least one green per champion kill, and a lot of times I receive rares.

2nd – No, it is not cheaper in the long run. I spend absolutely no money when I farm champions for the loot, so when you salvage the rares/masterworks, you get runes and the tier 6 mats out of it too as well as ectos. I can’t even tell you how many ectos I’ve gotten out of some rares the past few hours. I can tell you that I received 3 ectos per rare I salvaged with a Mystic Salvage Kit. I’m making a ton of money.

Make sure you’re level 80 before doing this tho, because you won’t get the nice tier 6 mats farming on a level 60

Is GW2 changing its target group?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Galtrix.7369

90% of the ascended stuff is time-gated so the hardcore players can’t have their ascended items in a day. Instead, by time-gating this content, casual players and hardcore players are on equal footing.

In fact, it isn’t just 90% time-gated on ascended. Almost all content in Guild Wars 2 is time-gated so as to level the playing field for casuals and hardcores.

Guild Wars 2 is still 100% casual. How can I assume that? Well, I’m a hardcore player myself, and I can say that there is absolutely, positively, no hardcore content in this game at this time.

You’re soooo wrong… What kind of so called ‘casual’ have the astronomical amount of gold needed to reach 500 and then actually start crafting the weapon? This isn’t aimed at casuals but grind bots/hardcore crowd.

No… I’m really not wrong. The fact that Anet time-gated almost everything in this game should tell you that they want this to be a casual experience. You could play for half an hour a day and have the money you need in about 3 weeks. My brother barely plays GW2 anymore, and he still has over 120 gold because he plays once every few weeks and doesn’t spend any money.

The problem isn’t that casuals can’t get enough money. Your problem makes it seem like you don’t know how to save money. It’s a l2p issue.

Other ways to Acquire Ascended Weapons

You can just play the game, collect the ascended materials needed to craft an ascended weapon, and eventually, you will have enough to craft one. You can play however you want and you’ll still be able to craft an ascended weapon by just collecting the mats. Or, if you hate life, you can get your Magic Find up to 300% and just play the game and hope for an ascended drop.

I used to agree with people wanting more rewards/better rewards, but you people have complained about this latest patch which brought a ton more rewards than you had before, and you’re still complaining.

Oh, you don’t like crafting? Well, neither do I, but would you rather have ascended gear be strictly RNG?

I see the ascended weapons as a goal, not a grind. I can work at it over a long period of time and I don’t feel the need to rush to get the gear because it’s time-gated. Overall, I feel like I actually have a goal for the first time ever, and it’s a goal that will keep me playing for awhile. I already have more than half the materials I need to create an ascended weapon – all I need to do now is just get my weaponsmithing from 81 to 500 with only 2.5 gold. Haha. Time to farm.

Just yesterday I was doing the “Kill Scarlet” event and I was downed with about 30 people around me. One person went to rez me, and this other guy says, “Don’t bother rezzing him, you’ll die too. Focus on the mobs, noob”. He didn’t say it that nicely either. They just let me slowly decay and die and I didn’t get any mob loot. The nearest waypoint was about 6 minutes away from the event too.

I can say with 80% certainty, that because children went back to school, the community will improve. 90% of rude people I meet are below the age of 15.

Remember after the first halloween event, there was a stage between showing workers actually rebuilding it… Tiny details like that really do set this game apart from other MMOs.

I noticed that too, I was like, “Wow, they really want to make this game seem alive”. It seems as though they’re getting a little too relaxed with that fountain unfortunately. They don’t change it very often back to its original form.

You may be confusing yourself between critical chance and critical damage. Even if you didn’t add any precision, there is no way you’ve never crit.
I’m not sure if you can distinguish critical hit from normal in combat log but it should be very clear if you crit during combat.

This^. There is no possible way you’ve never critically hit an enemy. My condition Elementalist basically has 1% critical hit chance, and I see crits every once in awhile.

As far as I can tell, Anet always intended to have ascended weapons/armor. As of now, the current best weapon in the game is a legendary and Anet said they wanted the legendary only to be cosmetically better and not statistically better. If you look right now, there’s a gap of damage between the exotic weapons and the legendary. The ascended weapons will fix that by bridging the gap and will have the same damage and stats of the legendary weapons.

Ascended is the last tier.

Ranger - good class, or are others better?

The Ranger class is meant to be the “Jack of all Trades”, so of course if you build it right, then it definitely does have potential. But if I want to play a longbow Ranger, I shouldn’t be punished for it by having almost non-existent damage. I played a longbow Ranger in GW1, and I wanted to play it in GW2, but apparently this game is optimized for berserker gear and the best weapons, which the Longbow isn’t.

Heck, I even resorted to playing a trap-based Ranger, and the DPS was pretty decent, but it was so boring to play that I couldn’t do it for more than a week.

More like you’re desperately clinging to whatever you can to convince yourself its dying, in the misplaced hope Arena.net will come back to you crawling on their knees saying, “You win… here’s your GW1 clone with updated graphics. Please, love us again!”

I don’t want this game to be like GW1. I realize that this is a separate game. I also realize this is an mmorpg, and as such, feel obligated to suggest certain things to make the game better. However, since Anet has let down the majority of Thr gw2 population multiple times, the majority of the game has either left or is on the verge of leaving. I’m not trying to convince you or convince myself that this game is dying, because I’ve experienced some of its decay first hand.

Ranger - good class, or are others better?

Compare the dps and survivability to other classes yourself. Fanboys will tell you that the Ranger is fine as is, and people that have played the Ranger class since GW1 will tell you that it sucks. I can tell you from personal experience, because I’ve played GW1, that the Ranger class has sucked and will continue to suck for the rest of GW2’s career.

But you don’t have to take other people’s opinion on it. Just compare for yourself.

Funny, because I’ve played Ranger since GW1 and think it’s… I dunno if I’d say “fine”, as there are many mechanics that at least need some attention (like Pet AI), but I hang in there with the big damage dealers just fine, thank you very much.

tl;dr version: Your claim is incorrect, because Ranger certainly doesn’t suck.

Is it the Ranger doesn’t suck or everyone you grouped with sucked which made you have a inflated opinion of your own abilities?

Fact of the matter is that a Ranger was in the group for the CoF speed clear which currently holds the top time. It’s a really simple question. If the Ranger was so good, why didn’t the group drop one of their Thieves in favor of a second Ranger? It’s not like the Thief brought any utility to the group. The Thief is the only class in the game to provide less utility than a Ranger.

The class is bottom tier. If the class lived up to your opinion of it, more people would have taken notice of it. Rangers would be called out in WvW to provide something useful. Berserker Warriors wouldn’t be the only class wanted in triplicate in groups. The class would have had another option than always the Bunker/Regen build with condis in sPvP.

This is still an MMO and word travels quick. If the Ranger was good it would have a better reputation in this game than it does. There’s just so very much wrong with the class and so very little effort has been done to improve it I’m honestly curious if they removed the class tomorrow if anyone but the actual Ranger players would notice.

My mistake. When I talk about Rangers sucking, I’m talking specifically about longbow rangers. Their dps is lacking a ton in that area. Dps with traps/Shortbow/greatsword are fine at the very least. Please, if you don’t believe me, compare the dps to other classes and see how suckish the ranger class really is.

I prefer getting nothing……..as the gift was nothing in the first place or just to infuriate players…………

I think we’d all prefer you got nothing.

Those scrolls are kitten good buffs and I got a boatload of them. I’m buffed for weeks of my actual play time.

You focus on the mini, I focus on the extra magic find.

Enjoy your unhappiness.

This ^ right here, ladies and gentlemen, is the reason Guild Wars 2 is going downhill. Anet dishes out bad content and ridiculous rewards, and players like Vayne accept and even agree with the content/rewards. Seriously, open your eyes and actually look at what the reward is for once. I felt more rewarded after I finished mario bros when I got absolutely nothing. At least Mario gave me fun in exchange for playing the game.

I like the game too…and I’ve been playing since the first beta. It’s taken some unexpected twists in how they present the game, which some people haven’t liked, but it suits me perfectly.

My biggest advice to you is don’t let the forums get you down. The game is way fun for me…the forums…not so much. lol

No offense, but you spend more time on the forums than you do actually playing the game… so what does that tell you? You enjoy playing the forums more than playing GW2. You consistently complain about how bad the forums are, yet come here to tell people how “good” the game is….. okay.

Anyway, once you get bored, then you will stay bored until you finally decide to quit. I enjoyed the leveling process and I also enjoyed about two weeks after I hit level 80, then things went downhill from there. Utterly boring content, no bug fixes, unbalanced classes, and a ton of other glitches and things of the sort just ruined the game for me, and I’m really patient with content that needs to be fixed.

Anet expect 99.99% of their player base to have high end pcs…… or laptops….

That’s rather amusing, considering one of the biggest complaints from high-end PC users is that the game doesn’t utilize their full resources because of being optimized for low-end rigs.

Yeah right. This game used to be optimized for low-end rigs, but they must’ve updated some unseen aspect of the graphics, because I can’t play GW2 on my laptop anymore. I used to be able to run it fine, up until about 3 months ago when I can barely move 2 feet anymore without getting hit with a wall of fps lag. My laptop is only 2 years old, and it runs every other game just fine.

Haha. Definitely not. Three out of four of my friends quit this game, and I asked them to take a look at some of the new content recently. Two of them logged in and played for about 5 minutes, then logged out and said they’d rather play barbie dolls with their kids or get hit by an oncoming train. The other person logged in for about 10 seconds, calmly logged out and uninstalled GW2, then took the disc and threw it out the nearest window into his backyard, to which the dogs happily devoured it and tore it apart.

I’ll tell you my experience. I had to keep switching guilds because I was pretty much the only one that ever logged in anymore. And they were massive guilds too! Each had just over 470 members, and they were thriving a few months ago. I am now in a guild with 100 members, of which 30 are active every few days. I can’t find anyone in PvE (and I play PvE for like 6 hours a day), and I can’t even capture a mini tower in WvW because I’m the only one there. Honestly, even patch days are looking sad on my server. There used to be huge numbers of people that showed up. Now I’m lucky to even get 7 people for Jormag or any other meta boss.

Ladies and gentlemen, the most hyperbolic post in the history of the GW2 forums.

You wish I was exaggerating, because then you wouldn’t have to admit that your precious GW2 is dying and there’s nothing anyone can do to stop it.

I still say they need to make crafting a mini game: something like ddr/guitarhero/rockband style where you hit certain crafting skill buttons at the right time to craft stuff. The better the item, the faster it becomes and more “beats” are added.

What an interesting idea.

I would play this game every day for the rest of my life if they did that. I’d play “Through the Fire and Flames” on expert hypermode if I had to.

I’m laughing so hard at this. I can barely get 20 people for Teq on a good day. How can Anet expect me to gather 80 people on a server that barely has that many? Please Anet, for the love of all that is good in this game, think when you come up with new ideas for raids/dungeons/pve! Think about the servers with a low population that probably don’t even have 80 people on them.
