T6 Dust Crisis

Gasoline.2570

What happens when the trading post is the one that runs out of T6 dust?

The system generally regulates itself – you have mistaken artificial scarcity caused by speculators with a real shortage of materials. Because these materials are virtual and not real, they cannot actually “run out.” But speculators buying up the cheaper offerings and sitting on them for later resale at a much higher rate can cause a temporary shortage in available mats for other uses.

The only ones truly affected are the impatient, and those who think that an available supply of 500 units means that there are only 500 units in the entire game world.

I understand the logic behind the argument that these materials are virtual and therefore cannot so called “run out”. However, if you remember a previous example, the exotic staff “Final Rest” was also a virtual item, and 7 months into the game, it could not be found.

I’m sure most of us who followed the Final Rest debacle fondly remember how Anet says it’s a rare drop and that’s why it’s not found yet. Lo and behold, one shady patch later, Final Rest started dropping like nobody’s business.

Whether this tier of dust is indeed being hoarded by people who wants to sell it for a higher price, or whether they are hoarding it now because they need to use it later and don’t want to risk paying higher prices later remains to be seen.

Either way, the game on its own, I’m sure we would agree to this, is that the amount of dust that drops and the percentage of that amount that goes into the auction house for sale, is not sufficient to make up for the demand.

In other words, we are virtually going into negative supply flow at the rate it is being used than the rate it is being “created”, so to speak.

Exactly, anet has nerfed it’s droprate and this is what we get. They control everything, whoever says otherwise is just silly.

You still don’t see past your own nose do you….

It is actually you doing the telling Vayne.. you keep telling us in almost every post you put out, how ANET have designed this game this way or that, that this is what so and so type od player does, or should do.

If you spent more time playing rather than preaching I would actually think you enjoy the game more, as it is you appear to spend more time on here preaching the gospel according to Saint Vayne. No one really cares about how you perceive the game to be laid out or how it should be played or who is “insert game style”… farming is just as bigger part of any MMO as dungeon running, story crunching, trade selling, and zerging… players choose to play the way they feel brings them the most fun and success… ANET merely provide access to do it. The only thing they liked to state in their manifesto is we don’t want players to grind… make of that what you want but every MMO since the beginning of time has grind… it has to in order to keep players logging back in.
Trouble is we see grind to mean different things.. levelling is a grind, running your story is a grind, hoarding loot and moneyz is a grind, crafting is and yes crafting that legendary is supposed to of been the pinnacle of your grinding efforts… the forge is a gamble and for those who enjoy grinding the toilet sometimes.
So your generalisations just don’t apply imo because people are people and they will do what they want, how they want, when they want… if they can.
If ANET close off all those areas that help players acquire certain things whether to craft, sell or stash then at some point the playerbase will retaliate the only way that makes any kind of noise.. they stop spending (hardcore and casual) and eventually they will drift to other MMO’s.

I know you like to play the white night on here and defend ANET as best you can, and I respect you for it, I too have done that on many occasions where I see fit and I don’t discredit your opinions as such… but sometimes you need to take away the rose tinted glasses and see the game as it really is not just how “you” know it to be.

This post can be completely discounted because of your inability to understand what Colin is saying in the manifesto and it’s crystal clear. Taking a single line out of a whole bunch of lines out of context to try to make a point is what politicians and lawyers do. It doesn’t make them right.

Colin was talking about combat grind. He was talking about killing mobs to level. He was talking about combat, because he said, “We don’t want people to grind in Guild Wars 2, no one finds it fun, we want to change the way people view COMBAT.”

That has nothing to do with gear grind, legendary grind, pepper grind or any other kind of grind.

He was talking about like what happened in Aion when people ran out of quests and they could only level by killing bosses over and over again. It’s obvious to anyone who watches the manifesto and has a basic grasp of the English language.

I’m sure you do, so you’ve probably just forgotten the rest of the paragraph in your zeal to prove me wrong.

How much is anet paying you? It’s a little funny what lengths you go.

Okay, so, I didn’t realize this was intentional so I had created my own thread on it which I’ve deleted; I’ll just comment here instead.

This is exactly what was done with Guild Wars and I’m just not interested in dealing with that again.

Arenanet has created a game where the only real “end game” is grinding for prestige items. In Guild Wars, you had to grind forever in UW and FoW for globs and shards to get your shiny armor. Initially in GWEN the biggest addition was the reputation grinds. You even had to grind for achievements to get special prestige bonuses for this game.

But at every turn anybody who found a clever way to minimize the sometimes agonizing amount of time spent on these grinds was punished severely. Nerfs were handed out all over in the form of nerfed skills (which usually had serious consequences well beyond the intent) and pointlessly buffed MOBs (anybody remember what happened when you tried to vanquish a spot with a couple of Roaring Ethers in one spot who would two-shot entire parties if you made one little flagging error?)

So then Guild Wars 2 comes along. New story, “real” MMO feel and all that… but the game remains the same. A fun leveling experience and decent story, but no real end game to speak of. There’s the “living story”, sure, but let’s face it, what has it been so far except a few small quests and some silly farm events like the Instigator spawns?

And now this. More punishment for anybody who plays the game as ANET designed it.

Don’t have your Golden title? TOO BAD! ANET has decided you have to work ten times as hard for it as anybody who played by the original rules.

Don’t have a legendary? TOO BAD! ANET has decided you have 1/10 the odds as anybody who was able to farm it out of drops from the original rules.

I understand that games change. Especially MMOs. I played a Warlock for many, many years in WoW and saw it go from ridiculous, feardotting uber-god to helpless paper waif to glass cannon back to paper waif. It happens, that’s fine.

But ANET seems especially adept at mangling its own intentions and punishing its biggest boosters for its own errors.

I wanted to hate this game. I really did. After being frustrated again and again by EXACTLY this type of thing in Guild Wars I developed a very negative view of the whole experience and initially planned on completely skipping this game. But I changed my mind and tried it and surprised myself with how much I like it.

But this…. I’m right back to where I was initially. I just don’t even want to play anymore. I don’t want to play a game that punishes me and hurts me in relation to my cohorts who already were able to succeed simply because I played by the rules ANET created, the rules that allowed so many others to succeed.

I’m sorry. This is just the proverbial straw. This isn’t the first thing that’s annoyed me, but it’s going to be the last. I tolerated the laggy events, the bugs (I almost died not 30 minutes ago, in fact, becasue of the as-yet-unfixed bug where Necros have only about 1/3 the expected HP in a downed state) and I even tried to get over the utter BS that is the gem store and its bogus offerings. But, the fact is I have a Steam account and I get things from GoG and I can play a lot of games I know are good and will stay good and I don’t need this aggravation from something so trivial as a video game. I have money. I don’t need to keep playing your “free” game. I can play something good instead.

ANET, you’re great at coming up with ideas, but you’re absolutely terrible at implementing them and I’m done getting jerked around because of it. To those of you who will stick it out, more power to you, but I really just don’t need this crap anymore.

And, no, you can’t have my stuff, my guild will get it. I’m going to go finish Skyrim.

I think you should have just sticked to creating a thread. Great post.

Just about all the counter-“arguments” many of the forum brown nosers will tell you are quite irrelevant, also.

I have NEVER farmed nor bought any T6 material, and yet I have almost full stacks of all of them sitting in my bank. So clearly it is fully possible to get the T6 materials without farming the same mobs over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over again.

What a neat-o story man. I almost belive you.

F2P standard would be to take it from the loot tables, put it on the gem store and not allow you to trade gold for gems.

Imagine what’d happen if they put a res-skinned greatsword, or other weapon up for direct sale instead of offering it up only via random chests. I bet the community would be all up in arms over just another “reskinned and resized” item they didn’t have to overcome RNG for!

Oh wait… isn’t that what so many wanted? Or did I just misinterpret stuff like

4 minipets were pure rng.

But you could buy 5 of the others, only getting 3 without buying them, and you could buy all the weapons and town cloths. I never said there was no RNG, but at least we had other things to spend our money on.

Oh and I did the Christmas chests and got the 3 mini pets, then turned them into a Quaggan. So the odds at Christmas were better then now.

Because you got the quaggan makes the chances better? Thats now how it works. I don’t know if you visited the forums at that time but the complaint threads were massive.

Yes, yes, before you all go there, I do get it… those mini-pets were different – unlike weapons that ARE just reskinned/resiszed. The point being they make it RNG people complain. They make them directly available, but not to people’s liking, they complain. So, what is it gonna take to make people happy?

You’re really not making any sense.

They make quality items with rng = bad

They make lazy/rushed items with rng = bad

They make lazy/rushed items for set price = bad
