Those “low servers” have tens of thousands of players on them , shutting them down because they have lower participation in some activities is completely ridiculous.
Hey, JQ’s players barely ever run temple clears and BlackGate’s Southsun is always deserted , they’re probably dead servers then, right?
we should just close them, right? (totally fake, randomly chosen examples)
Northern Shiverpeaks
Calling it this early, especially within 4 points, is a bit silly.
Tons of players haven been sitting on their votes and will only use them on the last day or two.
Northern Shiverpeaks
And then Anet doesn’t even put anything up there, not a jumping puzzle chest or even one crummy sky crystal (they put out more than 40 crystals for the achievement, yes they could put one up there without screwing the average joe.)
Naw, just look through the forum… If they had put anything at all up there, there would be another dozen threads in here complaining about Anet forcing ppl to do JPs.
Northern Shiverpeaks
The key here is that the MMO is not about platforming at core and since you have a diverse player base you don’t gate content (and the living story/world) by a niche feature.
This is GW2, not “the MMO”.
You don’t get to limit what the core of the game is or isn’t based on your own preferences.
Northern Shiverpeaks
this has been debated since release and I have yet to ever see a clear answer, Anet employees have been quoted confirming both theories, which are contradictory.
I believe the consensus is that it’s some mix of both.. based on accounts tied to the server but also modified by current activity.
Northern Shiverpeaks
because it’s only 4 slots and it’s silly to expect them to make a collectible tab for every item in the game.
Northern Shiverpeaks
The problem is you have no control over who(and how many) runs next to you.
More importantly, it goes completely against one of Anet’s main design philosophies for the game: always be happy to see teammates running towards you.
Northern Shiverpeaks

*slow down the zerg. make it so everyone with in, say, 900 range of each other gives everyone in that range a cumulative 1% movement speed decrease. 5 people within range, they all get a 5% movement speed decrease, 30 people in the range, 30%, and yes 100 people in the range= 100% speed decrease.
This idea is simply horrible and opens the gate up to some nasty griefing and endless arguments.
also, not that having 100 friendly players in range is actually possible, but you understand that 100% speed decrease means zero movement, right?
Northern Shiverpeaks
Do a favor to yourself, your friends and the entire community by transferring to a less populated world.
waiting around to cram more players into an already bloated server the second a small gap opens is crappy for everyone.
Northern Shiverpeaks
the bigger the zerg, the more likely it is you don’t get to tag something before it dies and the more likely it is that the opposing zerg kills you before you get any wxp at all.
this is just one of many silly preconceptions players have about the differences between tiers.
Northern Shiverpeaks
when everyone feels like a hero every day, then no one is truly a hero.
Northern Shiverpeaks
To our chagrin, Anet keep patching WvW with more masteries. If anyone hasn’t already noticed, higher tier servers tend to have higher ranked WvW players. This means that higher tier servers have more opportunity to obtain these new masteries.
Let me stop you right there since your entire premise is false.
every single player in the game has the same opportunity to obtain wxp, and therefor new world abilities(ie: masteries).
there’s no correlation between a server’s rank and a player’s rank

general inflation at well over 2000% and still rising.
any kind of proof or data to back this up? any at all?
a simple breakdown of your math will do.
Northern Shiverpeaks
Can he fix it? Nope.
Then he isnt’ qualified regardless of what is on his resume. And I never said I am, but at least I can address the issue, unlike him, and you.
you publicly called someone’s professional qualifications into question with nothing to back it up: you sir are a true gentleman.
Northern Shiverpeaks
Evon promises a rotation that includes southsun survival, kiel promises one that includes aspect arena.
so it depends entirely on who wins the election.
Northern Shiverpeaks
Many may say well just don’t play the Living World content but with the benefits of playing being so significant (Mining node in home instance) I have to try and get it done before being able to do anything else.
that extra crystal node is just about the least significant thing in the entire game.
this is just a matter of learning to ignore your completionist tendencies to focus on game play you enjoy rather than on maximizing your reward/time ratio.
Northern Shiverpeaks
caring about heroes is so last millennium.
there’s a reason all the most popular new fiction of the last decade has been focused on anti-heroes: heroes are boring.
Northern Shiverpeaks
no one cares how ‘hardcore’ you are.
this is a game.. either you have fun playing it, or you don’t.
Northern Shiverpeaks
GW2’s economists are just ‘college graduate’ economists rather than business men (and women). IE, their economic knowledge is theoretical, and largely based in the opinion of whoever taught them.
feel free to post your resume, we’ll compare it to John Smith’s.
something tells me his knowledge of economies both real and theoretical will dwarf anything you’ve done or studied.
Northern Shiverpeaks
It’s becoming exactly account bound so read an update before posting like this
gold being account bound would mean that you’re not able to trade gold to other accounts, which we will still be able to do(mail)…
so your statement is 100% wrong… you should follow your own advice, read(and comprehend) before posting.

You can invite players. You can kick players. You can whisper players. Even if they log out. But in WvW, this is not functional.
I’ve done all those things in WvW.. how is it not functional for you exactly?
Northern Shiverpeaks
crafting isn’t to make profit, and having some crafting components locked to account/soul-bound is one of the few things that would actually make crafting worth doing.
Northern Shiverpeaks
yet you have no control which armor sets happen to have the stat combination you want. When it comes to looks, armor definitely matters.
Transmutation stones give you complete control actually.
Northern Shiverpeaks
probably depends more specifically on the build rather than the class.
Northern Shiverpeaks
source?
I’ve just looked over the wiki and official site and found no mention of the zone being blocked once the bazaar ends.
Southsun stayed open after its event.
Northern Shiverpeaks
Lore about Kiel and Gnashblade is introduced not in the game but on a website… not very accessible.
How is a website ‘not very accessible’?
not only are you using a website right now, you can even access it directly in-game with the /wiki command.
without having to leave the game and look for long-forgotten bookmarks in my webbrowser.
Dude come on, you’re talking about alt-tabbing to your web browser like some insurmountable hurdle to your fun, it’s something most computer users do countless times each day.

hum.. are you sure you’re not just totally misinterpreting the usage of the word “mule”?
in the context of gw1 and MMOs in general, it refers to alternate characters used mostly as extra storage.
there were no mules/donkeys/horses type animals in gw1
Northern Shiverpeaks
The lore was soooooooooo goooood compared to GW2 rofl, Gw2 lore is a joke
both games share the same lore.
you might be thinking of plot.
Northern Shiverpeaks
At any point in time the wiki’s main page has a feature article on the current living story where everything is explained in detail.
Northern Shiverpeaks
So my point is that I am forced to do this achievements, which take all my free time, and dont have any time to really enjoy the game.
Achievements are 100% optional, you are in no way forced to do them.
focus your game time on what you enjoy doing, not on completing something you feel is a time-consuming chore.
If you feel bad about missing out on some rewards/titles… well, that’s just how it goes for those of us with limited game time. Might be time for you to re-evaluate what are realistic in-game goals.
Northern Shiverpeaks
I’m not sure I understand the question.. if you buy Nightfall and Eye of the North then yes you will be able to play through the Nightfall campaign and the Eye of the North content.
Northern Shiverpeaks
Yes, you have to buy one of the GW1 campaigns to play it.
you can link your current GW2 account to a brand new GW1 one, all you need is the Eye of the North expansion.
Northern Shiverpeaks
it was also the ONLY thing happening in the whole game at the time.
that might account for a few of the differences.
Northern Shiverpeaks
so the players that don’t care about immersing themselves and only chase achievements are.. not feeling immersed?
duh?
immersion is a two-way street, if you don’t involve yourself the game won’t do it for you.
Northern Shiverpeaks
The nodes on the cliffs will still be there once the zephyr leaves.
not getting the personal node only means the max number of crystals you can get in a day will be slightly lower.
Northern Shiverpeaks
Why would you have to lose your cultural armour?
Because you’re no longer part of that culture.
also, because the models don’t allow it.
race change will never be an option, just make a new character.
Northern Shiverpeaks
Kinda have to agree.. the combination of a high likely hood of repeated falling deaths with a payed waypoint has pretty much killed all my interested in exploring this map.
after my second fall I just logged out.
Northern Shiverpeaks
Culling is not something that’s “broke”, it’s a system used to mitigate performance issues caused by large crowds.
If you’re going to complain about something, at least understand the basic terminology involved.
Northern Shiverpeaks
No it can’t. Here’s why.
Next time you’re downed on land, try pressing your character movement keys.
Then, when you’re downed in the water, try pressing your character movement keys.Come back to me with the results.
Seems like a very minor quibble, here’s the super easy and totally obvious solution:
once someone initiates the “stomp/spear/finisher” animation on your drowning body, you get locked in place for the duration.
ta-da!
Northern Shiverpeaks
I have logged close to 2k hours in this game 1k of which are on one character. I have maybe 100g and a decent amount of mats saved up. I have a good amount of junk laying around and am no where near getting a legendary still. The game is no longer fun to play.
If someone mailed you the legendary of your choice for free, would the game suddenly be fun for you to play again? how would owning that legendary affect your game play?
you’ve played 2000 hours, it’s fine to be bored and move on to something else for a while.
Northern Shiverpeaks
not really, it’s just a “finisher” move, the same functionality could exist underwater without it using a stomp-like animation.
Northern Shiverpeaks
To me, “camera glide” makes me think of the half-life 2/source engine where there’s no view-bob and it feels like you’re gliding around, rather than walking over terrain…
but i don’t see how that applies to gw2.
Northern Shiverpeaks
ah, interesting. I haven’t been back since the first phase of Beyond, didn’t know about these changes, both are pretty interesting.
I agree the new approach to Survivor is a bit cheap, but the pre-searing change is a huge improvement, death leveling is a really poor mechanic to build a title around.
Northern Shiverpeaks
It’s worth mentioning that NSP also has a super strong PVE community, probably the biggest in NA outside of TC. Tons of ppl guest to our server for Orr temple runs.
Northern Shiverpeaks
So… has EL left NSP? I haven’t really noticed any of them in-game recently
Northern Shiverpeaks
I so miss the days when you couldn’t get survivor AND defender of ascalon on the same character.
Wait so you can currently can?
how do you get defender of ascalon without dying?
Northern Shiverpeaks
I mostly roam solo and frequently end up forming small adhoc groups to take and/or defend a few objectives… then we split off again.
If you like a more organic “go where you feel you are needed and can have an impact” style of play (as opposed to big organized zergs).. it’s pretty great.
Northern Shiverpeaks
TP is on it’s own server that every player has access to.
