Why not replace Distortion with CSplit?

Um which other elites remove something for their elite?

As far as I know the others have their class mechanics change (guard virtues, necro DS) but the basic functionality stays the same. Additionally guards keep the passive bonuses and the activated effects can become much stronger or at least stay the same depending on situation.

Tempest also gets overcharge added. Sadly I wasn’t in the beta so never got to test it. I know it’s bad at the moment but it could end up really good eventually. All added nothing taken away there and it’s arguably the strongest class atm.

So…why are you advocating taking away?

Necromancer has had their original shroud removed in place of the Reaper Shroud. Guardians have had their original virtues “removed” (reworked) for the new virtues. Elementalist, although I haven’t played Tempest yet, has a “lockout” after they have overcharged. Chronomancer is the only elite specialization that has absolutely no downside to their profession mechanic, only gains. Unless you count Continuum Shift “stealing” clones from the other shatter skills which I wouldn’t.

Using the number of new weapon skills as an argument makes actually no sense at all, since you are not losing your old weapons which are perfectly fine. In case of reaper, the GS is even entirely useless and might as well not exist.

It kind of does make sense, because you can only equip the weapon if you equip the elite spec.

I was actually not aware of this and now that I know about it, I don’t think I agree with it. However, if these new weapons are suppose to be of the same power as other weapons for that class then it shouldn’t be relevant, i.e, Mesmers shield is equivalent in power to a pistol and Necros greatsword is equivalent in power to a staff. Having these new weapons doesn’t increase the power thus meaning that the new mechanics added must have a downside placed somewhere else. If it is true that the new weapons are part of that downside then this would mean that the new weapons each profession gets is indeed suppose to be stronger than the base weapons for that class. This would be horrible if true, so I’ll assume it’s not, which leads me to believe it’s not relevant and that the downsides of each professions elite specialization relies on a combination of the new traitline and the new mechanics themselves.

In the case of the Chronomancer, their mechanics are only boosted meaning that the entirety of the downside is placed on the traitline. I was suggesting that some of the downside be placed on the profession mechanic, i.e, replacing Distortion with Continuum Shift. For balance sake as well as it just making more sense for the class.

Unlike the other elite specializations which have to remove something in order to gain their new mechanic, Chronomancers simply add a new mechanic ontop of everything they already have leaving their weakness to be placed on the traitline that provides it. I think it would be nice if some of that weakness was instead placed on the removal of Distortion. CS would be a good enough replacement for it in my opinion.

My thoughts on the Wts

Hammerguard.9834

I actually think there’s still a major issue with clarity when spectator. As someone who’s played GW2 since launch, it can be difficult to know exactly what’s going on at all times and this is probably the biggest obstical GW2 faces from becoming a better esport. I can’t even imagine how bewildered a completely new player would find these matches. Very little enjoyment can be obtained when the player can’t discern any information just from watching. In all honesty, even reading player name tags was a chore.

Other than that, and China not really bringing anything to the table, the whole event was pretty awesome.

Hammerguard.9834

After having tried only one Revenant build so far (carrion – demon/dwarf – staff, mace/axe) I noticed a few things. Though I only tried one build I found it quite successful, able to win 1v1s without too much difficulty and also able to put a lot of pressure in 2v1 situations so I thought what I gathered would still be relevant.

1) Pain Absorption cost a bit too much energy. Couldn’t justify using it many times especially when traiting for resistance on all demon skills.
2) Rite of the Great Dwaf is just all around terrible.
3) Renewing Wave on staff is not strong enough to justify both a root and 1 second cast time. Skill 2 on staff could also be more interesting imo.
4) For the love of god let me get some movement speed.

Why the condi hate?

@Gabriell

First of all, why do so many people seem to think that condi damage is unavoidable? When talking about mitigating condi damage, the only option people seem to see is condi removal when some of the same tools used to prevent direct damage can also be used to prevent condi damage (invuln/dodge).

Second. In what world do you think you have full control over which attacks hit you and which don’t? Condi or not.

@nearlight, I don’t see how there’s a problem with condi burst. Just how there’s direct damage burst such as how a thief or mesmer would play or sustain damage how a ranger would play, the same should be allowed for condi damage. Every class in the game has the ability to handle condi burst. It’s just that players are more compelled to cry about it than to do anything about it. I honestly feel most of the hate toward condi burst stems from people not knowing how it happens, and not because it wasn’t well telegraphed but because it’s so uncommon to go up against these builds. People have no idea how any of the main damage sources get applied. And yes, there are main damage sources. It doesn’t just get applied from any action. I have even noticed that when I go up against some of the same people I’ve played against before, they end up adapting and doing much better than when we had first fought.

What is this sick idea everyone has that if you die to condis then that class is either overpowered or ridiculous or aids or tumors or stds or did nothing or skill less? I’ve literally heard all of these and more. No matter what class it is, if it’s condi and it killed you it’s “aids”.

Then there’s other ignorant ideas that go around such as, “how am I suppose to cleanse all of these condis?” Or, “why can’t my class cleanse everything like others?” Can you or can you not “cleanse” all direct damage you take?

People forget there are two kinds of damage in this game. Just because one is much less popular than the other doesn’t mean it’s any less fair and viable.

PS. I would like nothing more than to have condis be as popular as direct damage but with things like diamond skin, necro’s ridiculous transfer rates, structures taking no condi damage, and people screaming “aids”, it’s never going to happen.

Which class is most faceroll?

in PvP

Posted by: Hammerguard.9834

Hammerguard.9834

The hardest class in the game to play has always been and will always be engineer. Engineer are 100% about combos and ontop of that, their combos aren’t as obvious as other professions. It’s very easy for them to miss a skill in the combo leaving the player to come up with a new one on the spot. To add to this, their kits have no cooldowns unlike elementalists attunments. Because of that the player has to be even more aware of cooldowns in each kit. For elementalists, you can basically expect everything in an attunment to be ready once the attunment is off cooldown.

Most faceroll class is ele.
