They’ve been releasing them along with the living world episodes, so the next one should be around February 14th, or as early as January 31st depending on if they take a break after the festival. Which one exactly you’ll have to wait and see, which will likely be teased the week prior.
For clarification, what achievement/zone/etc is this in reference to?
15 per lane is already 3x more than you actually need, 5x the minimum scale. Maps hold around 80-100 people and that’s not likely to change since everyone in close proximity exponentially increases the resources used. They’re far more likely to simply nerf it so that the minimum scaling is just as easy as zerging it now, which would make zerging it even easier. The problem is, scaling is only meant to keep the content relevant, so you simply bring more to reduce the difficulty. When scaling is actually fair however, the zerg always fails.
Moving forward, large scale events should simply be split from the map, playing out in their own area like an activity. Imagine Dragon’s Stand for example, but you have to queue into it and are automatically placed in one of the lanes (teams).
If you’re leveling, you should be in +5 level areas, +10 if you’re playing an easier profession like necro.
If you’re 80 downscaled, remove your gear and equip the next weapon that drops.
Air spouts don’t 100% work. I run through some and never get airborne.
Biggest issue for me is last glide phase. If you enter that phase when he’s still doing the ring attack it will knock you out of the sky everytime even though he’s not at the center of the ring. He’s left that spot to go to the center and throw rocks, but his ring attack is still going without him in it. That’s happened to me about 3 times now.
Sounds like you’re lagging through them. Personally, I’ve done it around 20 times now without a problem, even with the ring during the phase. I just use whichever updraft is closest and hover over it, gliding back and forth so the rocks are thrown away from me.
The aggro on these things are ridiculous.
They’re a pack, so pulling one pulls them all.
(Something I didn’t think about until the first person I
found would only respond to me with “pls go away” and “grinding pls leave”.)
One of ArenaNet’s core design goals was that you should never not want to see another player. That can still happen however, because sometimes more is bad. I’ve seen events fail for example simply because too many low DPS players showed up. Most collection events are also far faster when done solo.
The problem with level scaling and the lack of vertical progression is that it creates a wall, as those who couldn’t will never be able to. Traditionally, you’d only need to obtain better gear or wait until the next expansion in order to complete something you couldn’t previously accomplish.
That is probably a year or more away at this point, estimating from past living story episode counts, and the cadence of releases settled on in this one.
The number of episodes doesn’t matter. Seasons were meant to play out in pseudo real time over a year. If that’s still the case, seasons 3 is already half over. Episode 4 or 5 could even be the last, which would allow for a pre-summer release, otherwise they’ll likely take the summer off with a fall release, which is 2 years after HoT.
When your selected mastery no longer needs XP, or you don’t have one selected, XP is redirected to any open mastery still needing it.
It’s more than just the names, what the abilities actually do are also copied. All they’d have to do is change a word though, if it even mattered. They apparently took inspiration from other games. Their greenlight description states “gameplay in the Storm Guard can be described as a mixture of XCOM, FTL and Guild Wars”
HoT has basically turned into zerg-only content. If you just want to play through the game, you’re not going to have a problem. You’ll find smaller groups of 2-5 doing the events. If you want to successfully complete the metas however, using LFG to get into a full map is basically required, the only exception being Auric Basin due to the flood of people exploiting the loot.
If you want to buy HoT, it’s always on sale somewhere. If you’re expecting a refund however, buy it direct, because ArenaNet offers 30 day refunds, so you could even just buy it to try it if you wanted. At this point however, the next expansion will likely be revealed within the year. If they end up offering months worth of refunds again, though this time it’ll likely be upgrades, HoT will essentially be free within 6 or so months when purchased from ArenaNet. I’d recommend waiting out season 3 to see just how close it’s coming to an end. ArenaNet’s next 50% off sale should be in ~2.5 months, the week before episode 5.
Change the 24-hour cooldowns to reset with the daily. Rich gathering nodes / bloodstone / berries / unbound magic for example.
The bitter cold area is overpopulated, but you can simply glide over it by taking the tube on the mountain before the entrance, the same one used for the mastery point.
Try repairing: Gw2.exe -repair
If the error still occurs, open your “Guild Wars 2” folder and locate Gw2.exe and Gw2.dat. Rename the “Guild Wars 2” folder, then make a new empty “Guild Wars 2” folder. Copy (not move) Gw2.exe and Gw2.dat into the new folder. If the copy fails, right click the drive under computer, select properties > tools > error checking. Try repairing. You can delete the old folder.
If it still occurs, delete the folder %appdata%/Guild Wars 2, and if it exists, Documents/Guild Wars 2/Local.dat. This will reset your hardware related settings. Try repairing.
To reinstall the game, simply delete Gw2.dat.
Use an authenticator instead, then you can backup the key and replicate the authenticator whenever you want.
If you hated the vertical design of HoT, that design did continue for season 3 episode 1, but episode 2 and 3 went back to the flatter style. You can probably get away with skipping HoT entirely, but you’re going to want to unlock gliding and jumping mushrooms, since they’re used outside of HoT. If you can manage it, doing several of the gold adventures would be enough to unlock leyline gliding and mushrooms.
HoT’s sales were poor, so you can bet that the next expansion will be quite different. HoT will also likely be nerfed, as the population continues to die out. They’ve already gone back to designing group content for 3+ with season 3, much like the core game, whereas HoT was designed for the zerg, which is now LFG or bust.
A link would be nice.

It’s basically nothing, the endpoint when you jump through a portal.
A dev also confirmed that the rifts are to be continued and the mentioned hidden achievement from ~2 months ago is not related to the rifts, but to something else:
Is that the end date for Lunar?
The festival lasts 2 weeks, so it’ll be over on the 31st.
A nice surprise to log in and find Lunar up already. I guess that means a delay to ep 4, but no real biggie.
Realistically, episode 4 will now be earlier than expected. They were never going to overlap releases, so February 7th would have been the earliest. Now it’s January 31st.
Local.dat (hardware related settings) can bloat over time, increasing load times. You could try deleting it, located under %appdata%/Guild Wars 2/Local.dat and/or Documents/Guild Wars 2/Local.dat.
You can use the -maploadinfo command to see what it’s actually doing.
Gw2.exe -maploadinfo
GW2’s load times are affected by the CPU, disk read speed and network connection. Use the task manager/resource monitor to check for other intensive programs. If you suffer from packet loss, that can cause greatly increased times, potentially infinite.
NVidia? GeForce Experience’s Shadowplay/Share can cause increased load times and unresponsive black/white screens.
HoT does basically require twice the resources however, for context.
Why did these leaks appear only in China?
ArenaNet has full control over their own releases, but the content has to be given to China for localization. ArenaNet doesn’t want people datamining future releases, so they’re not going to push every update live. China however might not care as much.
In this case however, this zone isn’t new. It was abandoned prior to launch and the alpha assets can still be seen.
The next map is likely the desert, and those threads were deleted.
NVidia? GeForce Experience / Shadowplay can cause this.
Have you tried fullscreen (not windowed)? Anything trying to run on top of GW2 could potentially be stealing focus, which would likely minimize the game in fullscreen mode.
Try running the game as administrator (right click > run as admin), which would prevent other non-admin programs from interfering.
In the world are hidden events where you use the stabilizer to open rifts. Is that not a magical soft spot where a rift may occur? I simply assumed the datamined stuff was from an incomplete release, so until a dev says something…
The next patch should be the 24th, but it will likely only be the start of the Lunar New Year festival, which would run for 2 weeks up until February 7. Episode 4 will likely not be released until February 21. The only reason they would overlap releases is if they’re already on a tight schedule, as in they want to release the next expansion before summer. Waiting until the 21st means a lesser gap and thus less work (current events), because the next major release is not until April (SAB).
On 64-bit, you need to uninstall using the 32-bit exe:
Gw2.exe -uninstall -32
Just to confirm, you did buy the ultimate edition, which is only available through buy.guildwars2.com, applied the key to your account and can access HoT.
Support is your only hope. If by chance you kept the game running, you will need to restart it. If your trading post pickup is backlogged, pick it all up, and do the same for your mail and any reward chests, then restart the game.
The game just calls them stats, like when you’re prompted to select the stats on a blank item.
ArenaNet calls them stat combos/combinations.
Why would they give legendaries swappable runes/sigils when they could make you grind out legendary runes and sigils.
In the old log, it’s downloading, but the data you’re receiving is bad. For the new log, I can only guess what the magic numbers are, but it looks like it’s timing out with no data being received.
You could be suffering from heavy packet loss, which you could verify using the pathping command with one of those asset server IPs, but it’ll only work if pings aren’t being blocked on any of the nodes. If they are, you’ll need to use something like PingPlotter.
cmd.exe:
pathping -w 500 -q 50 -4 52.85.77.7
Something could be blocking or manipulating your traffic. The safe mode test was to rule out software on your computer, since most of it is disabled under safe mode. It’s downloading on port 80, which some software assumes is web traffic and will try to inject stuff. Your ISP could also be doing that. If you’re using a modem and router, try directly connecting to the internet, or if that’s not possible, temporarily disable the router’s firewall or DMZ your computer.
In the meantime, you should submit a support ticket.
If you haven’t tried several of the asset server IPs, try some more (NA: 52.84.16.84, EU: 205.251.219.172). Alternatively, the workaround is using a VPN.
What is your definition of a group?
3 is the minimum scaling. Most are rather basic, such as the spider, troll or vinetooth, which can easily be done solo because of their slower/directional attacks. Some simply need a decoy, like how the bladedancer is anti-melee. A few however are far more challenging in comparison, where you’ll probably opt for 3+, such as the queen. For the more casual players however, you can get away with 2+ for the easier ones, but for the harder ones you’ll want a zerg/10+.
The fact that people need to schedule trains is already telling, and it’s only going to get worse as the population continues to decline. As group events, they only serve to discourage players and block map completion, meaning playing less. The original idea behind events was that they acted as beacons, drawing solo players together. That doesn’t work here, especially not when they’re out of the way.
Hero challenges should have been just that, hero challenges. They need less zerging and more content that actually teaches people stuff, like how they tried to ramp it up with the Queen’s Gauntlet. They should be like adventures, where you can easily retry, and they should offer more than just killing, such as puzzles or challenges like dodging everything. If they’re just going to be dumb events, they should have just been events.
Even if they implemented actual /dueling, there is always going to be people dueling in WvW.
The fragments have a 50s vendor value, so HoT/S3 isn’t required. They likely won’t come back outside of the winter season, if at all. If they were going to use them as filler, chances are they’d offer seasonal variants, such as charred fragments in the summer.
That achievement is to complete each outpost’s achievement, so in short, basically all of the events.
http://dulfy.net/2015/12/06/gw2-verdant-brink-achievement-guide/
Hero challenges should have simply never been group content. They tried to justify it by saying they were worth 10 points, but the real reason they’re 10 points is simply vertical bloat. After they screwed up, they’ll need to bloat it again if they want to fix the problem, which I guess will need to be raids.
As for the metas, you only need 20-40 people, which is less than half the map (~100 max). You can’t casually zerg it however when playing at the normal scales. If the situation is that the majority is unwilling to participate, chances are there’s another instance, otherwise you weren’t going to have enough either way.
ArenaNet will likely take the simplest route and just nerf the metas so that only 1-2 per lane are required instead of 5~10. That’s what they did to the Silverwastes.
Try a different patch server. Open cmd.exe and enter the following to get an IP, or just use the sample below:
nslookup assetcdn.101.ArenaNetworks.com 8.8.8.8
… then use it with Gw2.exe:
Gw2.exe -assetsrv 52.85.77.7
You can use -log (Gw2.exe -log) to see what it’s trying to do, which writes to
%appdata%/Guild Wars 2/Gw2.log.
As a test, open msconfig, select the boot tab and check safe boot with network, then ok and restart. You’ll reboot to safe mode, which you’ll need to run msconfig again to uncheck safe boot, but don’t restart yet. In safe mode, try running Gw2.exe -image
Lunar New Year will likely start on the 24th, changing it to a Lucky Envelope. They’ll probably have something for Valentine’s, then episode 4, likely on February 21st, then SAB on April 1st.

If you needed something, you can try web.archive.org or searching google for site:metabattle.com and using their cache (cache:metabattle.com).
The site appears to have been taken over. Usually this is a malicious ad that redirects the page, but in this case, they’re actually doing a redirect themselves (301 moved), which flips through a bunch of ad sites. I would assume that their site was hacked, or they’ve abandoned it.
Honestly, it seems to be working fine. I didn’t like it at first because I felt you shouldn’t have to play the LFG game to find an organized map. But I don’t see how else you can have organized meta events without them being on a timer and players using LFG to organize. You see the same thing with world bosses in core Tyria. Why is this any different?
In the old world, LFG is really only required for the wurm and certain achievements. The problem is, most people simply want to show up and play, but that’s currently only possible with AB. It’s why WoW’s LFR was the only thing to crack raiding, because you can simply queue in and do your thing. When people say to use LFG, that’s a major red flag for most people who have yet to buy it.
LFG is only needed because HoT is dead, but using it is also worsening the problem because it’s killing off the other instances. HoT was simply too challenging for most and a lot of players stopped showing up because the metas would always fail. As people stop showing up however, even more stopped because the maps were dying out. What was left was people expecting to see a hint of organization (commanders), otherwise they wouldn’t even try. Full maps are also desired because overpopulating will greatly reduce the difficulty. One full map is however enough for at least 2 maps, 4 if the players were any decent or even more considering the other partial maps, meaning everyone could potentially participate.
There are many potential ways for ArenaNet to improve the situation…
People think the map is dead because there’s no commanders. People don’t know how many, or even if there’s anyone out there. What if player activity was highlighted on the map and events showed nearby numbers? Showing the minimum/current scale would also help, since people zerg stuff, then think that’s how it was meant to be done.
Normal open world maps are bad for high pop events. People are simply too spread out and doing their own thing, so they can’t guarantee if there’s 1 or 100 people willing to participate. They only made it worse when they started designing for the zerg, where instead of only needing 1 group, you now need 4. What if these events played out more like an activity, or simply put, organization was automated? Take Dragon’s Stand for example and make it something you queue in to. Instead of the various lanes, those would be the set teams.
Metas simply shouldn’t fail. They removed the cost of repairing because death was already a punishment. In this case, wasting my time is already bad enough, so “failing” should be as simple as taking twice as long. Why should I get rewarded for AFKing in a full map, yet get nothing for putting in far more effort, but ultimately failing due to numbers? If numbers are going to be the primary factor, overflow the maps or link them together (think phasing, with everyone actually on the same map). Either everyone wins, or no one does.
ArenaNet has always wanted to have a higher difficulty however, where core was originally more deadly than HoT. They seem to want to use numbers as a workaround, as in zerging or grouping for solo content, but that’s not sustainable. You could say join a guild, but the average MMO player just wants to jump in and play, so they play solo. That was one of the core designs of GW2 after all, solo players coming together for events. Without offering some way to trivialize older content, such as nerfing everything or vertical progression, more and more players are going to quit. Some people do find even Orr too challenging. I’ve even seen mythic WoW raiders that have ragequit GW2.
Is it possible to make a graph with active posters, instead of a graph with number of posts?
Like… scroll up?
Someone knows the details? How are the models different?
They’re different colors. Priory has a red core, while Consortium is blue, possibly referencing Primordius vs Jormag. It would basically mean that they used dragon imbued magic to fix the problem, and now you’re infused with it. It’ll probably end up being nothing important, but it could be a way to vote or worst case, determine your faction.
Yes
SAB occurs every April now, but it’ll no longer be further developed, at least not while they’re keeping Josh Foreman busy with new maps. Back in the day, SAB only came back like it did because W1 was unexpectedly popular, enough to warrant immediate further development. W2 however bombed in comparison, as people complained that it was too long and difficult. That’s why SAB disappeared.
They could have had another Dragon Bash for Mordremoth, though that festival was somewhat merged into the Lunar New Year. If they didn’t kill off the Zephyrites, the Bazaar would have been another festival.
May I ask why you created a new account and didn’t just buy HoT for your existing one?
Since they only seem to be complaining about missing episodes, lets put it this way. It might cost them ~400g to buy those episodes, but selling their login rewards is going to be like 100g a month. For anyone that actually buys gems, you’ll get far more by buying another account.
When you don’t care about your past accomplishments, you might as well register a new account and use the old one for login rewards. You can also use them to multiply your rewards, like having them sit through world bosses for example.
OMG it is 9 Gold now, please add a source bk!!
The funny thing is, the total cost is still the same. As the sigils continue to rise, the drinks continue to fall. The current cost to make the sigils is 13g, so expect them to continue upwards.
Personally, I wouldn’t count on seeing a new source next year, especially if the total cost remains around 1000g, which is roughly what it’s always been.
They actually planned on changing the dailies a long time ago. Back during season 1, they talked about wanting to get players out into different areas of the game, which is why they changed it from “do this wherever you want” to “do this here”. The new dailies are however far more rewarding.
is showing events where there aren’t any
Events identified by the nearby event icon on the map, but don’t appear in game are hidden rifts. You need a stabilizer from the current events to open them.
They should open up customization, allowing you to mix the look, voice and animations of the races. They do it throughout the game already, so they could explain it as mesmer magic or whatever.
For a simple racial change, they could just add combat tonics.
For cultural armor, anyone should be able to equip it, but if the race doesn’t match, it should simply be treated as a broken piece. It’d fix the problem with cultural ascended.
After just doing it, the bug actually makes it a little faster to rush through because Rox isn’t stopping to attack everything.
I have a really casual friend in the same situation, except I keep preventing it by warning them. They want to buy HoT just for gliding, but the dailies that can be done in the lower level zones are really the only thing they do anymore. HoT should have added more dailies to the list (like festivals), not overridden them. Removing the original do whatever you want casual dailies was already quite a blow to them.
