Why have Events that can't be completed?

in Blood and Madness

Posted by: Healix.5819

Healix.5819

The events do scale, the 3 bosses just happen to be group events which are designed for 5 or more players. All the other events can be completed solo.

The event has been running for 25 days and counting. It was still being zerged during the final days of the 2 week mark, but due to the next living story being released, most people have moved on.

You can try guesting to a high pop server during primetime or scheduling an event like https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/livingworld/bam/Labyrinth-zerg-tonight to get it done.

Clock tower not accepting last jump

in Blood and Madness

Posted by: Healix.5819

Healix.5819

There’s a bug where the animations aren’t synchronized and occur 1-2 seconds before they should. When this happens, you will notice a pause in the animation of the gears that form platforms at both the start, where everyone waits, and at the end, after the fall where the chest is. If you notice this animation glitch, you’re bugged and can either leave the instance to fix it or try to work through it. To jump through the window, you have to wait for the clock face to pass and then jump, as if the clock face was actually on the next side of the tower.

If you’re just experiencing lag however, you need to jump a second early.

Direct Song Problems

The soundtrack can only be bought through DirectSong because DirectSong is Jeremy Soule. They seemed like a pretty small company, so I assume they basically didn’t have the people to deal with the influx of orders that GW2 caused.

They pulled the soundtrack from their site a while ago. They probably don’t sell it anymore and anyone with a order is either in a year long queue or will eventually have it cancelled.

There is currently no rate limiting on the official API. However, you are meant to use it responsibly, else they will eventually enforce a limiter if too many people abuse it.

For example, if you are requesting item data, request it once and then cache it, since it will rarely change. If you are requesting an event to track it, request it once every few seconds, rather than every few milliseconds, and don’t pull every single event if you only need one.

That possible solution to condition caps was brought up during a Q&A with Colin:

If the change was to actually happen, a lot of skills would have to be changed, like those that apply a 1s bleed with every attack or those that apply multiple bleeds at once, rather than 1 strong one.

Assuming you don’t leave your computer running 24/7:

Create a shortcut to Gw2 and place it under the Startup folder in your Start Menu. Alternatively, you can achieve the same thing by using the task scheduler or by adding a registry entry.

For the shortcut to Gw2, you want to add the command line options -image and -nopatchui. The shortcut target should look something like:
“X:\Path\To\Gw2.exe” -image -nopatchui

-image causes the launcher to fully update and exit, while -nopatchui hides the launcher, which you may or may not want. The problem with hiding the launcher is, you can’t start the game normally while the other launcher is updating.

Is the LS reverting us to a quest log?

in Living World

Posted by: Healix.5819

Healix.5819

It was never about killing off the quest system. It was about cutting out the filler (the kill 10 rat quests) while leaving the main story quests. What ArenaNet ended up with was the personal story as the main quest line which evolved into the living story. This current living story has an obvious quest-like element to it.

Quests work because they get the player’s attention and direct them where they need to go. Remove this, and the majority of players won’t know what to do any may not even know something is occurring. Since some sort of direction must be given, ArenaNet chose the achievement system to do this, rather than implementing a quest system. This can be confusing, since, for example, Halloween required you to complete the meta even though that wasn’t what was asked of you.

Hearts (and scouts) were not originally in the game. They are the result of quest driven players trying GW2 and immediately getting lost or confused. Hearts were meant to direct these players to areas with events.

Zerging is getting ridiculous

in Tower of Nightmares

Posted by: Healix.5819

Healix.5819

GW2 is funny when it comes to zerging. Other games try to discourage it by resulting in no or greatly diminished loot or no credit. In GW2 however, they reward it, by not only making the encounter easier, but by also increasing the rewards through either increased drops because of more targets or faster encounters. There are a few exceptions of course, but even these can be overcame by throwing enough people at it, as long as the zone’s population cap is higher than what it can scale to.

Loot for everyone is the problem. There needs to be a cap on how many people can “tag” a single mob or alternatively, everything needs to scale without a cap, where if 100 people stand next to a regular mob, that mob will be equal to 100x its normal self. Their current method of spawning champions or more mobs just results in increased loot.

If there’s going to be a cap on scaling, the loot rewarded should also be a factor. For example, imagine a chest that was balanced around rewarding 1g and scaled for 10 to 50 people. If 1 person managed to unlock that chest, they should get 10g, whereas if it took 100 people, they should only get 50s each. This would discourage zerging while encourage continuing while being undermanned.

The other problem they need to fix is getting full credit for hitting something once, like showing up at the last second for a world event. They’ve somewhat fixed this, if they continue using the Tequatl loot method.

Healix.5819

Betcha 5 ectos it is coming….. they lied about no items better in stats than exos, they will lie again…. a matter of time only.

ArenaNet talked about a possible level cap increase months prior to release. They never claimed exotics were the end of the line. They haven’t even said ascended is. There will be something better one day, but for now, they can still do the multiple levels of infusions and ascended runes/sigils.

GW2 is basically on a 1-2 year gear treadmill. For comparison, other (active) MMOs usually run on a 2-6 month cycle.

Legendaries will be better than ascended one day, but they will never be better than the highest tier available at that time. That’s one thing they’ve directly promised, so long as legendaries remain the way they currently are. They could for example add a new tier, like ascended, but instead of actually adding a new rarity, they combine it with the legendary rarity. Then legendaries could have better stats, since they would be much quicker to obtain.

Diminishing Returns on Clock Tower?

in Blood and Madness

Posted by: Healix.5819

Healix.5819

I would expect it to be a bug, but it might actually be intended. Look at it from the perspective of someone who can’t reach the end. If most people don’t make it, as you continue past them, you alone are holding everyone else up. If they give you no reason to farm it, a lot of people won’t, which will reduce the retry times for the other people, increasing their enjoyment.

Farming it wasn’t really worth it this year anyways.

“If it isn’t mindless zerging it shouldnt be rewarding.”

When it comes to solo vs zerging, this has been their trend for the last several months. Pretty much everything that was primarily done solo has had its rewards nerfed whereas zerging keeps getting more rewarding. Only playing the trading post has remained mostly untouched.

The “dungeon” isn’t a dungeon. It’s a story introduction. Last year’s dungeon was the ending of the story, so if you’re going to compare that, you need to compare it to the one not yet released.

Not all things were better. Last year, the “I spent $100+ on boxes and got nothing” threads were so bad, that ArenaNet had to implement a “try again” option.

No Book Back Item Hunt back also!!

in Blood and Madness

Posted by: Healix.5819

Healix.5819

Last year focused on the Mad King. The scavenger hunt was about researching the King’s story and the result of that was the book. This year however focuses on the Bloody Prince. In the living world sense, the Mad King’s story is known. Why would the NPC ask you to do it again, when they’d just tell you the completed story. If ArenaNet was going to put it back, it wouldn’t be about the Mad King, it’d be about learning the story of the Bloody Prince. Instead of the Mad Memoires, you’d receive the Bloody Memoires, which I imagine would look relatively the same but with the Prince’s icon and colored red.

Limited time rewards were also a “feature” of GW1, so it can be expected to never return, until the game is in maintenance mode that is.

The original SAB rewards did not return either.

Mad King's Clocktower on Farm!

in Blood and Madness

Posted by: Healix.5819

Healix.5819

The amount of bags you got last year was basically, 1, 3, 6 for the chests up to the tower and 9 for the final one, +/- a few for RNGness.

Last year, you could also talk to the boatmaster within the clocktower’s waiting room to join the clocktower (again), which would port you to another instance. By doing this, there was no wait. I would commonly get into another instance that was just about to start. Rarely, I would get into one that had already started, so I’d just port again. Now you have to leave the instance to join again, which due to the loading screens, isn’t really worth it.

I also remember being able to quickly loot the final chest, going through the portal and just making it back in time for the teleport (I would load into the teleport/view of the clocktower), which is something I haven’t been able to do this time. The timer needs to be increased by like 5 seconds to allow for winners to go again.

They should give additional rewards based on your score to make it worth it to stay. The end round ~2 minute wait is far too long.

Depending on your latency, the actual window could be opening multiple seconds before you actually see it.

From personal experience last year, I’ve had instances bug, where although others could jump through the window, I could not. In this case, you have to leave and join a new instance. I think there was an animation glitch with the first set of gears (where everyone has to wait) that could be used as a tell for when the instance is bugged.

Benefits of removing in-combat ressurections

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Healix.5819

Healix.5819

Completely dead players should not be resurrectable at all, and only given the option to waypoint. When it comes to PvP, if you’ve killed them completely, they should be dead. In PvE, in the open world, dead players are simply leechers while in groups it’s simply the case of bad players. There’d be a higher risk and as a result, a higher incentive to save downed players without getting them killed (like those in dungeons that drag the boss on top of the downed guy and get them killed because they want rez credit or whatever).

I’d even put in a forced waypoint to whatever was closest if one wasn’t selected within 60s.

If you could still rez dead players while out of combat, lazy players would simply wait or want people to drop combat to rez them, which is quite easy in open areas. These people need to be forced. Dungeons should allow it however, since the last thing you need is that 1 guy always running back. Waypointing in dungeons during bosses should also be re-enabled and boss room barriers be put in instead.

At the very least, completely dead players should be given the lowest target priority (when pressing “F”) or only be selectable manually.

The power trader was going to add a limitation to the trading post. It would allow you to have up to 4 listings with up to 1000 items per stack. So if you had something like 5000 copper, you could only list 4000 of them at 4 different prices. They probably could have made a lot of $ though, though there would be a lot of complaints.

The item had the icon of a booster, so I’m guessing that rather than an account unlock, it was a 30-60 minute deal, however that would work.

TP API for buy orders bannable?

in API Development

Posted by: Healix.5819

Healix.5819

Obtaining the session key has basically been ok’d, though not directly. They allowed gw2spidy to do it and even advertised them during one of the AMAs, so they can’t be against it. That is what they want after all, the community to build things. They’d probably like it if someone rebuilt the entire trading post (website) with the functionality people request, since it is possible.

If the extended experience still existed, there’d probably be a trading post app for phones, since it would be such an easy thing to do. It’s actually possible to make such an app currently, but it’s not user friendly due to the setup required. If they added a few more APIs (authentication, inventory listing and pickup), it would be easily possible.

If using their API to place buy orders or using the API in general was not ok, I’m sure they would have mass banned and blocked it by now. It’d be fairly easy to detect, at least for those not using the expected headers. They should give an official response considering it’s their resource, though I doubt they will unless the TP API is made official.

Hidden costs in gold/diamond exchange?

Kind of. Trading from one to the other and then back will not get you what you started with. It’s not exactly a “hidden fee” it’s just that the exchange rates are different.

For example, 100 gems = 2g 72s 27c, but trading that back into gems results in 71 gems.

The amount you can type in isn’t the problem. You can easily change it and allow yourself to type something like 9999. The problem exists on the server side. Anything past 250 will result in an error. With the current implementation, the only way to simulate buying more than 250 is to place multiple orders in batches of 250, which will eventually cause the you’re posting too fast error.

The ability to type in 500 or 2×250 doesn’t matter. On the data side, they’re both the same. The quickest way they could implement this would be by doing what can already be done on the client side. On the server side, simply break that 500 down into 250 batches and place the order twice. It may even be just a hard coded limiter that doesn’t even matter, in which case they could just remove it. I don’t think they will however, since the limit is both for safety and fairness.

New chars can't get new hairstyles? Why?!

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Healix.5819

Healix.5819

New hair styles in the gem store is a perfect example of what people wanted out of the gem store – stuff that is purely cosmetic and doesn’t matter.

However, the hair shouldn’t be a part of the kit. What makes it slightly worse is that when the kit was first introduced, although they were unsure how it’d actually work (because it wasn’t final), they said that new kits may be released in the future and only those kits will have the new styles. For example, imagine there being 2013, 2014, 2015 etc, style kits, and if you want these hairs, you’ll need the 2013 kit specifically. That would also mean that any old kits won’t get you the new styles and all old styles would be eventually lost.

What they should be selling is “series 1 hair styles” that unlocks the hair styles for you account and comes with a free hair style makeover kit. On the character creation screen, these hair styles would be selectable but locked until purchased to let people know they’re there. A month from now, no new player is going to know about these hairstyles.

If placing buy orders is what you need, there’s 3rd party programs for that. Actually, you don’t even need a program, you can just place the url in your browser and hit refresh to spam buy orders.

If actually buying things is what you want, that’s a little more difficult. It requires injecting a little javascript into the trading post (website). By doing this, you can also have a custom TP interface and basically do whatever you want, like adding every feature ever requested.

Officially, I don’t think they’ll ever increase the 250 limit. Although it would be more efficient for them to handle, it would really make it unfair to everyone. For example, when they said “everyone go buy this now, you’ll need it” everyone is limited to buying a small amount one at a time. Now imagine if 1 person could have bought all 100k at once, completely removing the cheap listings.

The wave has too many issues to be a 1 shot mechanic. I don’t even look for it anymore, I just dodge ~2s after the stomp since it’s either lagged or has no graphic. When there’s only ~20 people around you though, the wave works fine.

If Tequatl was instanced and intended for coordinated guilds, the current Tequatl is indeed far too simple. If instanced, there should be no waypoints to run to. With enough people, you can easily rez a defeated player in seconds. The poison removal on the turret should also be removed. A coordinated team would have a 100% uptime on projectile negations and/or destroy the fingers as soon as they spawned. A really coordinated encounter would force everyone to stack and shift the poison around the area, acting as an enrage timer (can’t cleanse or negate it, lasts until the phase is over).

But if the encounter was actually instanced, I’d imagine it would be much different, since it would be possible to do other things, such as having Tequatl move. Players should have to complete a Tequatl jumping puzzle to get on top and survive the flight phase to force it to land and then to distract it so the laser can shoot.

Maybe they normalized everyone’s character size or went with multiple starting points, making the start a spiral up the tower. I think they were against simply transforming people into a standardized model.
