If you reach the champions with a small group before a zerg has managed to scale it, those champions are veterans.

Even when they’re champions, the wurm and warlock can be done solo. The spider can’t due to cocoon, but it’s not required. The warlock is the only one I’ve ever seen people have problems with and that’s only because they eat multiple projectiles at once and instantly die or melee it. If you do it solo, there’s only 1 projectile and his attacks can be evaded simply by moving back and forth.

max agony resist needed for lvl 50 fractal

Agony resist is something they don’t have to hold back the vertical progression on, considering it doesn’t affect normal play. When they do introduce 51+, they could easily double the maximum resists and make it seem like those +10 resists are now +1, so that the maximum for 50 is the minimum for 51. Fractals are after all designed for that type of player and since it’s just a number change, there’s nothing stopping them from requiring you to eventually have a resistance of over 9000.

5 is more than enough people to progress through the tower. Bringing large groups is what causes it to get scaled for the zerg, making elites level 81-84 appear everywhere. Once that happens, it will stay like that until either they’re killed by a small group, or if the zerg cleans them out and then ports out before they spawn again, both of which very rarely happen.

The ability to form large groups being locked behind commanders was a bad move though. You can always use /say chat, and for the tower at least, /map chat, considering if you’re with 12+ people, you’re probably the majority in there.

I think NCSoft is pushing for higher sales, WildStar ditching b2p and going sub makes me think it isn’t as successful as it’s made out to be

The current trend is to start with a sub and then drop it later. Regardless of if there’s a sub or not, people are still going to buy it to try it and then quit a few months later. Why not charge them a little extra. The only downside is they might get a smaller initial player base and that after the switch, those people will see the game as a failure.

WildStar, being a new MMO with no background, I doubt will be able to keep a sub. With the way they handle combat though, they’d probably make a better e-sport game than GW2, so you never know.

Try deleting the cache:

Assuming windows, open the folder: %localappdata%/temp

Within that folder, look for a folder named gw2cache-{…}. With GW2 closed, delete the gw2cache folder.

If you can’t find the folder, with GW2 running and the trading post open, open the Windows Task Manager by pressing CTRL+SHIFT+ESC. Look for the process awesomium_process.exe, right click it and select open file location. Close GW2 and then delete the folder that was previously brought up.

If deleting the cache doesn’t work, trying opening https://gemstore-live.ncplatform.net/. You should see an invalid authorization page. This is just to confirm you don’t have a DNS/routing issue.

The mobs do scale, it’s just that once a zerg runs through, it’s now scaled for the zerg until they clean it out and leave before they spawn again. The amount and class of the mobs only scale on spawn while their health can increase dynamically. Nothing scales back down however.

If the tower hasn’t scaled yet, anyone that knows how to play their class should be able to run through the tower.

GW2 Becoming P2W

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Healix.5819

They are going in the wrong direction with skins. When they introduced town clothes, they didn’t want to create the GW1 problem of everyone wearing costumes, which outshined the hard to get armor. With the rate they’re currently going, it’s going to be the same thing.

They never said there would be no vertical progression though. A possible level cap increase was talked about almost a year prior to release, which basically confirmed vertical progression back then. Later, they confirmed they wanted vertical progression but they didn’t want to make it a focus. Instead, they want to drag it out, by, for example, releasing ascended gear over the course of a year, rather than a month, only to have a new tier available in 3.

So lvl 90 coming soon?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Healix.5819

Healix.5819

Their goal is to have a minor vertical progression curve. Ascended gear was scheduled to be released over the course of a year and then after that, infusion upgrades. They can also do ascended runes and sigils.

A level cap increase shouldn’t be expected for another 1.5-3 years, assuming they don’t just introduce another tier.

I welcome a level cap increase – with expansion content only. If they just roll out a new level cap without a expansion, its going to look really bad…

If they release something like the crystal desert, ring of fire, etc, through the living story, that is “expansion content” and they could easily throw in a level cap increase. You are told that “you are not ready yet” to face the deep, when talking to the largos.

Gemstore Armor skins

If they were going to sell them separately, they would probably introduce black lion armor tickets, which in the end, would make them cost way more.

Even if they did sell them separately through the gem store, they wouldn’t all be the same price. The chest and legs for example would be something like 400 gems, whereas the boots and gloves would be around 100. Shoulders and helm would be around 200. They could also be a lot worse. Take the toxic glove skins for example, 400 gems. They could easily do that and sell the entire set for 2000+ gems, for non-reskinned sets at least.

There’ll never be a DPS meter because… just look at the combat log. It’s terrible. First they would need to fix that, and because it would be such a low priority, it’ll never be done. If they did fix it, all they would need to do is implement logging to a text file and then the players could build the DPS meter.

DirectSong had issues with the soundtrack since day 1, beginning with manufacturing issues and too many orders to fill. I’m assuming they’re a very small company and couldn’t handle the large influx of orders GW2 brought and since they were months behind on filling orders, they either pulled GW2 to fill year old orders first, or removed it entirely (or simply forgot it when they redesigned the site).

The soundtrack is only available through DirectSong because DirectSong is Jeremy Soule. If you want one now, you’ll probably have to ebay it.

Some areas still do respawn too quickly, as in you must keep progressing forward because the path behind you has respawned. In general though, you shouldn’t have an issue, unless you’re doing something like standing in 1 spot and taking a few minutes to kill each target or pausing for a few minutes after every kill.

Mid range maps can be pretty empty, though there are a few people playing in them depending on the server. If a living story is occurring in that zone however, it’s full, but that doesn’t generally help someone trying to play through that zone.

All zones are solo-able, including Orr, with the exception of specifically labeled group events, but even they can sometimes be done solo. Some areas are specifically designed to be zerged, but so far those have been limited to living story areas.

Orr had groups of enemies removed a while back, along with some of the pulls, to make it easier to run though. Shortly after that however, the enemies of Orr received a skill update which in general made them more difficult. Orr is meant to be a more difficult zone.

What is Rally?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Healix.5819

Rallying and downed is simply a state of mind. When you’re standing in a field of battle facing against an enemy and you begin to be overrun, what is going to happen? People are going to retreat. Now what happens if someone boosts morale and shows those who are wavering that they can win? They stand their ground.

Getting downed is simply is getting thrown to the ground and thinking you’ve lost – you’re weak and flailing. Rallying is realizing you still have chance – your second wind.

Compensation for getting reset to level 30?

in Fractured

Posted by: Healix.5819

Healix.5819

ArenaNet had 2 options to implement the new mechanics:

1. Reset everyone to 30 and introduce new mechanics for 31-50.
2. Reset everyone to 50 (80 was obviously not intended), nerf 1-50 and introduce levels 51-70 with the new mechanics.

Considering the point of fractals was to create a hamster wheel for grinders, I’m not really sure why they didn’t just add on to it. Maybe they just thought that 20 levels of grinding on the same basic difficulty was too much.

Just imagine all the complaining there would be if the /deaths counter was reset.

Healix.5819

They should just drop prefixes altogether. It’s going to get really messy over the years as they add more, and just imagine if they add a new base that has 4 stats.

They should just let you choose whatever stats you want. Just give 3 slots or something and let you put a stat gem in it. It’d be way simpler and allow for everything. It’ll also fix the problem of not being locked to whatever prefix is on the item.

Unfortunately however, it seems they’re trying to use stat combos as a form of progression, along with new runes and sigils.

Why the transmutation system needs a revamp

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Healix.5819

Healix.5819

Personally, I never use the skin system when it’s implemented like it is in GW2, because I don’t want to lose something and I don’t really care enough about how I look. Unless the original skin is absolutely terrible, yet required, like the incoming ascended gear. I much prefer it when you’re allowed to equip 1 set for stats and 1 for cosmetics.

What they should do is implement a collection system for skins that are like achievements. Once you’ve obtained a unique skin, you could learn it to permanently add it to your collection. To keep the price of transmutation crystals, they could either introduce a skin salvager, which would add a cost to “learning” skins but allow you to use them for free, or allow learning them to be free, but use crystals to allow you to wear them. They could even do both, by just having a special 1g salvage kit. Instead of transmuting the skins to your armor, you would equip them like a secondary set.

Scaling of chamber bosses - not working

in The Nightmare Within

Posted by: Healix.5819

Healix.5819

They should implement a proper scaling system where all group content scales between 1 to 5 players. Additionally, they should allow you to select the scaling you want, where if you go up a level, you get increased rewards or less if you go down. This would open up possibilities such as challenges and actually getting increased rewards for doing something undermanned. With the exception of simply scaling stats, scaling isn’t something that is easily accomplished without designing each encounter 5 times, for each scale.

In general, scaling shouldn’t be exact. For example, if there’s only 2 people, it’s probably “with a friend” (casual) so scaling should be something like 1.5x the normal, rather than 2×. Scaling for full groups however should always be at max.

Fractal levels above 30 to be reset?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Healix.5819

Healix.5819

They could always just make 80 the new 30 and make 100 the new 50. All that would accomplish is an unneeded grind. The new 50 probably won’t even be obtainable to most of these 80s. I expect the instabilities to be something like the gauntlet, where you take double damage, can’t dodge or have to face multiple bosses at once. The level 49 instability would be extreme, like you only have 1 hp and can’t rez. Leaderboards would be pointless if there were 100 groups at level 50, though I would imagine they would include your completion time, even though you’d have to get lucky RNG with the best fractals.

Back when the first groups were reaching level 80, all I saw was spy kit spam and whatever else consumables being used. I wouldn’t classify that as legitimately reaching level 80, and would hope these methods have or are being disabled.

… and who’s really going to PuG past 30/40. Assuming the new levels are actually difficult, I expect to only see min/maxed guild groups on the top and probable exploiters on the very top.

in The Nightmare Within

Healix.5819

They keep track of data like mobs killed, items looted, instances done, etc, so the bar could easily be real. How much antitoxin is required is probably based on the active population and participation during the previous living story. It could also be designed to fail or simply last forever until destroyed. They already influence how many people do the instance by having dailies for it and if needed, can further influence it by simply increasing the rewards or making it easier to get to.

As for the bar being the same on other servers, of course it’s the same. When creating a living world, every server has to be based on the same world or else there’s going to be odd moments when guesting or entering overflows.

Why Living Story and not everything else?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Healix.5819

Healix.5819

If the loot system didn’t reward everyone, people would naturally break away from zerging. Take champions for example. What if only the top 10 contributors were rewarded with a box, rather than the 50 or so people in the train. It wouldn’t be a train anymore, it’d be ~13 people camping each champion while the remaining people either move on to another zone or something else, or cry about how the other people are being unfair.

They could also force people to go to new zones. Take ascended crafting for example. What if instead of requiring iron, platinum, etc, a new account bound material was added to gathering nodes, which was only obtainable at level 80. This would force players into running around to gather their own materials. They could basically do the same thing with events, where say a level 1~20 event would give a tier 1 token, a level 21~35 would give a tier 2 token and so on. Those tokens could then be used for something.

Without forcing people, the mid range zones will always be dead. If they force people however, they’ll complain.

How much longer do we have to wait for SAB?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

They have holiday events which occur at fixed times every year and then in between those they have the recurring living world events, which include the Queen’s Gauntlet, Zephyr Sanctum and the SAB. Layout all these events over the course of a year, where they try to have 1 event every other month, and you can estimate when the next release will happen (around February).

The SAB occurring twice in 1 year may not happen again, since originally, it was just as a joke. Although they might release it next April, I doubt they’d make it the focus for an April Fools joke again.

An expansion would only separate the player base and potentially destroy the living story. For example, what if the crystal desert was an expansion which only introduced cosmetic progression and now, the living story is taking place there. Not everyone would buy the expansion if it’s cosmetic only, so the player count for that entire living story would go down. Now what if expansions weren’t cosmetic and did something like an increased level cap or new weapons, skills or traits, or even classes. The PvP player base would be disrupted. People already complain about ascended gear in WvW. Imagine the complaints about fighting level 100s, or overpowered spear chucking warriors/paragons.

Expansions are really only used for marketing to make the game look new to those that have either quit or haven’t played. Anything an expansion can do the living story could also. There’s nothing stopping them from making a bigger living story event every several months and combining it with a big press release to make it look like a mini expansion.

Will ascended be on TP?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Healix.5819

Healix.5819

Ascended gear is meant to be something you work towards over time. Making it tradeable without making it very expensive would defeat the entire purpose of having it. Assuming legendaries remain tradeable when they introduce the next set, they will be the only method of buying ascended gear.

When it comes to WvW, the devs note that it is not intended to be fair. You’re not meant to 1vs1 and when it comes to zerg vs zerg, just as many people aren’t going to have it. WvW was supposed to get a rewards update to offer a method to obtain ascended gear, though they may now consider crafting that solution.

Personally, I think the gear system should be changed to be more adaptive. For example, remove all stats on gear and simply allow you to slot in both a rune and insignia.

Healix.5819

It currently is possible to make an app that allows you to use the TP from anywhere, but it requires the game to be left running on a computer that will act as your server. Whether it’s “legal” is another question, since doing so violates several rules, much like gw2spidy, and it could also be considered a bot, since the only way to pickup items is by clicking the button. This method uses the in-game trading post as a proxy, allowing commands which are not accessible through the API to be used.

Another way, which doesn’t violate any rules by itself, is by relying on a program like remote desktop to view your screen from another device.

When running through the first level, I noticed packs of mobs that I’d normally see weren’t there and the event champs were veterans. I noticed the same for level 2. I never got to level 3 due to entering a chamber and coming out in a different overflow.

I think everything may scale, it’s just that if a zerg rolls through, everything gets upscaled and then continues to stay that way until killed. I don’t think they handle scaling it back down, since this type of scaling probably only works when the enemies spawn.

If you purposely quit so that you can get 400 free gems, you’re losing out on a lot more than 400 gems. You’d miss all the temporary content and achievement points that comes along with it. Money-wise, every patch seems to add something to exploit, whether it be a change to something existing, or a valuable temporary item that will only rise in price. Some patches are better than others. Take the Queen’s Gauntlet for example, where you could farm it for hundreds of gold, or exploit the farmers below to make thousands.

If you never do anything in-game though and really only login to login, then I can see where you might want such a little amount. I’d assume however you’d be more likely to quit permanently.

The impotence of casual players

Healix.5819

Ascended Gear was implemented (if I am correct on this) for those of us without a spare 520 USD to drop on the Gem to Gold Conversion system so that we would have enough to buy a Legendary Weapon.

Ascended gear was implemented because exotics were a joke. Within the first month, even the first week of the game, “dedicated players” (what ArenaNet called them), exhausted the game’s content, had full exotics and were left with nothing to do. Normally, in other MMOs this is where prepping for and grinding raids comes in to keep you busy until the next major update. Back then however, there were no updates to keep you busy, so a lot of people quit. People wanted something to grind and work towards. This is where fractals came in, along with ascended gear. Things could have turned out very differently if the initial playerbase didn’t rush to the “endgame” to basically try and play WoW.

Before ascended gear was introduced, legendaries were the equivalent of an exotic.

There actually is a filter for back items and also skins (and a few more other things), but for some reason they don’t list them in the filters you can select. It would be such a trivial change to add, yet a year later and they still haven’t done it.

Back items used to be hard to get, since they were only available through the personal story. Then they through some tradeable ones in the game, made them mostly for level 80s and also made them the cosmetic centerpiece, whereas originally, they were invisible.

For more specific searching, you’ll need to use 3rd party tools, like http://www.gw2db.com/items/back
