Ironically, if you go to the Crafting subforum, people are actually complaining that they have too much ascended and can’t do anything with them.
Yes, there is a small subset of players that vendor their ascended eq for few silver pieces because they ran out of bank slots, and there is a much larger subset that cannot realistically hope to obtain that tier eq. With each new piece, new eq level or new tier that split is going to widen, until even the least-observant casuals will start noticing that they are being left behind, and that game is no longer aimed at them.
Exactly.
Well Anet has changed things but adding Ascended so no the game slowly is being diverted from appealing to them to appealing to the hardcore. Fotm was a HUGE step.
So it can’t appeal to both? Only one or the other? That seems rather closed-minded.
Of course it cannot. The goal of hardcore minority is to gain a visible advantage over the majority of the players. For them, best stat equipment must be something that everyone wants (and needs), but only few can get. They will never be content with something that lot of people can just ignore.
Obviously, that goal is actively harmful for the rest of the players.
So, a minor advantage gear that is not really needed is not enough for elitist crowd. A major advantage gear that is needed, but is not achievable, on the other hand, will not make the rest of the players happy.
You can appeal to one group, or to other, but never to both (because if you’ll try, you will end with something that will be not enough for elitists, but too much for the casuals).we were the group Anet was advertising for! So the hardcore should just accept play or simply leave.
Ascended is breaking the game, and honestly enough is enough.
While encompassing everything else, I’d like to know how you think ascended breaks the game.
First of all, ascended will be obtainable by other methods.
Second of all, you don’t need ascended. Before anyone pulls that “optional” counterargument on me, I’ll present my counterargument to that counterargument: Full exotics lets you play the game 95% as good as having full ascended (as of right now). It’s not the same as saying “It’s optional to play the game naked too” or that “It’s optional to quit the game” (which defeats the entire purpose of the counterargument). Why is it perfectly acceptable to play other MMORPGs in average gear but not GW2?
Thirdly, ascended will be more easily obtained.
Fourthly, maybe new tiers will be introduced, but to say that the ascended fiasco will repeat itself again with its introduction is naive. No one knows how new gear tiers will be introduced.
Lastly, I’m neutral on having ascended on the trading post. It’s nice for sure, but doing so only decreases interest in doing things that could also give ascended.
Why am I not having this problem? I’m not saying it isn’t a problem — but it’s an inconsistency none the less.
I wish I could be as naive as you all.
So liking a game is being naive? It’s not necessary to derail a thread of praise just because you don’t share others’ opinions.
Anyways, despite obvious faults, GW2 is definitely one of the better MMORPGs I’ve played. I actually have a good time playing. Nothing I do feels obligated.
still ascended have an advantage.
Really Anet should make ascended sellable on the tp, and make them as easy to get as exotics. Problem solved.
Have ascended ONLY in dailies and fotm makes anyone who does not have 2 hours at once to blow annoyed.
The “Ascended Group” only have an advantage The advantage goes to whomever can use what they got the best. That may be the “Ascended Group” or it could be the “Exotic Group”. I’d be willing to put money down that a group kitted out in 100% Ascended randomly chosen from one server would NOT be able to beat a group of the top WvW players in MASTERWORK gear.
The same logic can be used to defend any pay-to-win scheme (as long as you can’t literally pay to win outright).
Good thing it isn’t pay to win: Ascended gear exists, and you can’t buy it with gems, gold or karma. Only by playing the game.
Your move.
Apologies for not making my point more explicit, thus leaving too much room for strawmen. According to Tobias Truelight, a system where some players have ascended items and many don’t is not a problem, because a highly skilled player with low level items can still beat an average player with ascended items. This kind of logic is commonly used to defend games where players can purchase in-game advantages for cash, because a highly skilled player can still win without paying cash. The parallel with GW2 in this case, is that ascended items take too long and are too boring for many players to obtain, leading to a subset of players with them and another subset without, like in P2W.
Ironically, if you go to the Crafting subforum, people are actually complaining that they have too much ascended and can’t do anything with them.
Because sometimes showing no gloves on is more aesthetically pleasing than having them on.
It’s definitely not PUG friendly. It makes dungeons a hell lot harder too.
But it’s definitely something on the right path as it makes more sense to do dungeons this way. That being said, there’s still problems. Like OP said, it punishes those who are still alive. To remedy that, maybe there can be compensation, like for example, for every dead (not downed, dead) player, all the remaining players who are still alive gets a bonus 100 toughness/power/whatever (like a desperation buff).
I had the graphical portion of the glitch — massive amount of spears. But my FPS was fine.
Why no back pieces? in laurel vendors?
Why isn’t Ascended dropping from mobs like every other piece of equipment does in game? Why yet another time sink that very few want, suppose to be added in game at launch, sorry you implementation tells me otherwise.
Who are you to speak for the community?
I hate the dailies. It feels like you log on to do a chore now.
Completely grindy objectives that really need another look. How is going into a low level lake to kill aquatic monsters anything but a stupid time sink? Or having to go to a map with dead NPCs if you haven’t got the revives?
The majorly unfortunate thing about dailies is they even out more towards 4-5 hours of “not paying attention” and getting them anyway play, or an hour focusing on them. That’s a really bad design for something that’s really so inconsequential.
And the old dailies weren’t any worse?
There is DR on gathering. If you have mined too much, for example, mithril, eventually all nearby mithril nodes will vanish.
I am pretty sure this is not true.
Run around a zone specifically going for nodes. If you’ve ran through most of the zone and find a spot that contains something like 1 rich node and 2 nearby regular nodes, while gathering the rich one, the other 2 will dissapear.
The DR seems to be based on number of gathers (a regular node being 3), since the DR can kick in while gathering, which will cause the node you’re currently on to dissapear. All nodes within a certain area will be gone when it happens. I’m not sure what the size of the area is, but nodes at the other end of the map will still be available. Nodes affected by DR seem to have a 24 hour lockout, which normally would reset every hour. There are also some regular mithril nodes in the game which by default reset every 24 hours (or maybe at the daily reset).
I encounter the DR after about 1-3 hours of playing normally, doing any nearby events, while gathering everything through the entire zone. Also note that the DR only affects the zone you were gathering in, so if you switch zones or don’t gather a lot, you’ll probably never encounter it.
Back when DR was first implemented, it was actually very easy to hit gathering DR. I’m sure you can still find the threads about it. All you really had to do was gather a rich node and a few others within a small timeframe.
Really? I still sometimes do ore runs, and this never, ever happened to me. You sure you weren’t mining during the time when the ores reset? They change locations at specific times.
Eh, I wouldn’t say I hate him so much that I would want to kill him. It’s just that his voice acting is… subpar. It’s like he doesn’t take a breath between every sentence. Other than that though, meh. The way he acts can be excused due to the fact he hasn’t done any socializing for the last 20 years of his life (apparently).
She should have flew over the wall. I mean she did that during one of the personal story jumping puzzles.
People are taking the whole “gear treadmill” thing completely out of proportions.
Ever since the start of the game, there’s always been a gear treadmill. Is not going from masterworks to exotics a gear treadmill in one sense or another?
Then people whine about “Ooooooh, ascended. WoW clone now”.
Which is simply completely wrong. The “gear treadmill” of GW2 does not even come close to the likes of almost every other MMO. Sure, it might require you to “catch up” in terms of gear, but doing so doesn’t even take a fraction of the work you’d have to do if you were playing another MMO. In other MMOs, you can never, ever have the best gear unless you pour your entire life into the game, and sometimes that isn’t even possible.
I reckon that people who say that are really inexperienced with MMORPGs.
Introduction of better than ascended isn’t guaranteed
I’m basing my expectations on dev info, in which they clearly said that they are going to continue forward with “item progression” (including such things as adding items with increased stats within already existing tiers, for example). And 2014 is, interesingly enough, the moment just after all ascended eq will be released (so, we can expect it to be obsoleted as soon as a month after you complete the full set).
And i didn’t start as cynical – my attitude changed as a result of things happening in this game since release. In fact, i’m still afraid that i’m not cynical enough.
Well I sure haven’t seen them say they were going to bring forth stuff higher than ascended. I don’t expect them to not do so, but it’s a bit of a stretch to say they’re going to do what you say they’ll do.
I’d like to see this.
So do you think ascended gear should be removed?
No. People have invested time into getting them, and they won’t be happy if they’re gone.
They won’t be happy after level cap raise or new better eq introduction either, and at least one of those (likely both) is already considered. I see no difference here.
Level cap is likely raised through expansions which is fine. Introduction of better than ascended isn’t guaranteed, and if it is happening we don’t know in what circumstances they’d be introduced either, plus it’s certainly not happening in 2013.
The cynicism on this forum…
Well the stat gains, and in exchange make them easier to get.
They’re already working on this. Some people really are just too impatient.
How? Have they already stated this? I hope your right just where did you get that information?
Laundrels is terrible really if that is them working at it.
It’s emphasized hundreds of times over if you’ve been paying attention to what ANet’s been saying. Laurels isn’t even the end of it.
Is the ascended issue bothering you that much? For every post related to grind or ascended you seem to be quite involved.
Well the stat gains, and in exchange make them easier to get.
They’re already working on this. Some people really are just too impatient.
Nah. This goes for any game by the way, not just GW2.
So do you think ascended gear should be removed?
No. People have invested time into getting them, and they won’t be happy if they’re gone.
I wouldn’t call GW2 refined, it certainly has its flaws and screw ups, but it’s fresh air compared to other MMORPGs I’ve played. If people think ANet screwed up big time, they haven’t seen how badly other MMOs screw up. Not even Lost Shores can compare (although incidentally, I actually liked Lost Shores).
lol I never even knew these existed.
WvW (filler here)
The formula for confusion is this:
PvE and WvW: 10 + (1.5 * Level) + (0.15 * Condition Damage) per stackAt level 80, and assuming the mesmer went all out condition and has 1000 condition damage, each stack does 280 damage.
Not bad. You are only off by about 1000 condition damage in your calculations. Put in 2000 condition damage and run your numbers again.
If someone stacks purely condition damage to get 2000 (not even sure if that’s possible even with full rabid, undead runes, food, and tuning crystals) then the only thing you’d have to worry about is that condition damage. The physical damage would be laughable at most so waiting out the condition damage would actually then be practical.
Which incidentally would make that a L2P issue.
Your words, not mine: “assuming the mesmer went all out condition”
Things would just be so much easier for people to swallow their pride and admit it when they are wrong. I do when I’m end up being wrong about something.
Are you really going to make a comeback based on semantics? It doesn’t change my point.
5190/1970 = 263% more damage than what Anet considers balance in 5vs5 and 8v8…
But also do keep in mind that confusion is considered impractical for use in sPvP.

If there’s enough confusion on you for it to do over 3k per tick then the mesmer has already blown over half their confusion on you. Any more stacks of confusion then you’re clearly doing something wrong (such as killing clones).
The formula for confusion is this:
PvE and WvW: 10 + (1.5 * Level) + (0.15 * Condition Damage) per stack
At level 80, and assuming the mesmer went all out condition and has 1000 condition damage, each stack does 280 damage.
10 stacks of confusion does 2800 damage tickets. 15 stacks, 4200.
To get that many stacks in the first place, you have to be doing something wrong. Even traited, a mesmer using Cry of Frustration plus scepter #3 can only get 11 stacks on you. That by itself blows 50% of confusion potential already.
Condition cleanse that, and what else does the mesmer have?
RNG is a game breaker, especially if the majority of the game play is based on the RNG. Then add the lack of items to play for…and the RNG really is annoying plus no fun. Then add the diminished returns on top of that.
Only a game breaker if you’re building a legendary.
(edited by Heijincks.9267)
Well arena net said that you should be able to do what you want and not forced to do something just cause its rewarding. This works perfect with the xp. But as soon as you hit 80 the xp is almost useless and game over. The xp should be the MAIN rewarding this in the game cause it enables you to do whatever and get good rewards….
Trading skill points for laurels is something that could work.
We don’t live on the moon so I dont really see the point. Mercury has a new year every 88 days too, they don’t have time to make that many events AND get us the already promised massive content changes coming the next few months.
All I have to say to this comment is “…………………………..”
For people who want to grind, just give them a daily that requires them to kill 300 mobs or so to complete it. Farming is inevitable, so putting countermeasures against it doesn’t really help.
For people who don’t want to grind, stay with the normal daily.
Both dailies give the same reward, but the reward is only given once. It just depends on which one is completed first.
Just remove the whole Mesmer class itself from the game.
Everyone’s happy.Except people who have mesmers. Which is probably a lot of people.
I was kidding of course :p
I’ve seen just about every Individual Mesmer skill cried for a nerf, probably our mechanics as a whole, and a few traits. QQQQQQQ
L2p. OP probs some scrub who got shredded by it in a 1v1 because he was a dope.
My thoughts exactly. I used to share the OP’s sentiments towards mesmers.
But then I made my own mesmer.
It’s truly just a L2P issue.
In small skirmishes it’s gotten better.
In large scale battles though, it’s gotten significantly worse.
Just remove the whole Mesmer class itself from the game.
Everyone’s happy.
Except people who have mesmers. Which is probably a lot of people.
Ironically I’m probably one of the minority who has been getting increasingly better drops. Since last week I’ve played for a total of maybe 15 hours or so. Most of it was spent dungeon running. The trend was the same before that. Yet during that time span I got roughly 3 exotics and about 10 rares. I haven’t had the experience of getting continually worse drops.
Time your condition removes. Mesmers don’t have that many confusion-applying skills in their arsenal that they can just stack multitudes of confusion on you one after another.
Also, thieves eat mesmers for breakfast.
I find it unlikely.
The whole reason they brought Ascended in in the fist place was because of ‘progression’. Automatically upgrading the fancy Exotics defeats the entire purpose of introducing Ascended in the first place.
They made Triforge upgradable.
They did?
They upgraded it, or is it a recipe?
A bit of both. You take the original Triforge, throw in some relatively cheap material along with it into the Mystic Forge and it spits out an ascended Triforge.
I find it unlikely.

3 Dungeons
Where should I start, no strategies hope for the best, I’m really happy about no trinity required but seriously your dungeons are one the worst I have been playing since the last 15 years of my MMO’s experience. Don’t get me wrong they are beautiful but the mechanics is just horrible, doesn’t matter if you are a glass canon or full tank/healer certain boss just one shoot you this is just ridiculous. Also if you are no a warrior/guardian or mesmer good luck to find a group, on my warrior I can find a group in matter of second, with the rest of my char that is an other story.
You are wrong and correct in the one paragraph. Put some thought into why the encounter mechanics are ‘just horrible’, why certain bosses one shot you. I can tell you the answer and it is the lack of the basic trinity threat/heal mechanics by designated classes. I stopped playing the game after the first month (and I don’t believe I was Robinson Crusoe in that regards), I have since returned almost a week ago and I am no reminded – after just one week – why I left. It is because of what you have said here. That and lack of structured classes.
If ArenaNet reverted on their original ‘no trinity’ concept, redesigned their classes with the trinity in mind, obviously brought threat mechanics back into the game – I honestly believe this game would be outstanding. Its a pity they messed up that whole no trinity thing. Sounded great pre release but fails in execution.
In other MMO based forums I see the same thing over and over. The lack of trinity hurt GW2.
If Anet did that, a ton of us, including me, would leave. We play this game because we aren’t necessarily pigeonholed into those roles. You haven’t found the strategies, it doesn’t mean they’re not there. You come from another game and try to play that game within this game. Shrugs. Your loss.
Some of us have become quite good at doing most of the dungeons. Just the people that can’t adapt that love to whine.
I think you’ll find that the numbers that play the game ‘now’ compared to release are massively different. That ‘ton’ you refer to has already left. I understand that people like it but I can tell many more don’t. The funny thing is the first thing people say about the trinity is that they whine about ‘LF Tank or LF Healer’ yet now it has become even more difficult to get a group simply because of the mess dungeons are – and yes they’re a mess, the only people that go are the experienced players that put up with it. Even the OP who states he has many high level classes and has obviously played the game as long if not longer than you admits to the dungeon mechanics being bad. He also mentions the difficulty in getting a group. Sorry but the ‘some of you’ that have become quite good at dungeons are not going to keep ArenaNet in the black my friend.
MMOs losing population soon after launch is a common phenomenon. What matters afterwards is whether population continues to drop after the initial mass leaving instead of a gradual improvement.
Also, gw2lfg.com
Transmute them to new weapon and tadaaa, you got your expencive skin and new best stats.
That’s what I’ve been thinking, although other factors such as getting the ascended weapon would have to be taken into account.
We know for a fact legendaries will have ascended weapon stats when ascended weapons come out. What about rarer exotic gears (eg. Abyssal Scepter)? They typically require hundreds of gold to make which more than justifies the extra few stats which we’d presumably get. Has there been anything said that these items would be promoted to ascended tier?
Funny they mention a monthly fee. Now we know what happens when you play a buy-to-play game: You have no voice, and no one cares about your problems. And the people who work for Anet have absolutely no issue with being rude in these very forums, either. Can’t say I’ve ever seen such garbage before. I guess they all slept through Business 101.
Oh puh-leeze. If this is bad, you haven’t played enough MMORPGs. Play any game published by Nexon (they once got an F on the BBB). Then you can talk.
It’s practical only because ascended eq is so much harder to get. It’s the price and price only that makes ascended unpractical to get. It still does not make them optional. BiS is never just optional. Or rather, it’s as “optional” as playing the game is.
Performance wise, I can’t even tell if the other person has ascended or not (until their agony resistance shows). In exotics vs ascended, as far as I’m concerned, we can still a) complete dungeons quickly, and b) the extra damage you do on full ascended still doesn’t seem to make killing people in WvW any easier.
Running around in exotics instead of ascended is practical? lol!
We got another one here!
So what you are saying is those with Ascended Gears are Noobs and anyone with only exotics could kill em always as to the stats are optional?
Amazing find indeed.
How you came to that conclusion that I think people in ascended gear are noobs, I don’t know. Weird logic there bud. As for the rest, refer to my reply above.
Knight’s and etc. ascended might come in due time.
Prevent the Ascension becoming an ever greater failure than it already is, DO NOT introduce Ascended Weapons and/or Armor!
Nah, I think they should be released. With that, they just need to give ascended stuff more practical ways to obtain. For example, what I think would be the best solution to the entire ascended fiasco is to simply allow upgrading from exotics to ascended with the same stat combinations (I don’t know, Gift of Ascension + Exotic gear + Elonian Wine + Philosopher’s stone). That way exotics don’t become useless when full ascended comes out, plus it makes everyone happy in the sense that it’s not RNG based.
As I said, this is not my point. I’m not talking about grind/trademill or whatsoever.
The point about this thread: Ascended gear hates personal builds.
And I indirectly acknowledged it. I implied that “too bad such gears don’t exist now” but there’s no reason they wouldn’t in the future. Afterwards I outlined a possibility to how it could be obtained… practically as well on another note.
No. It should never be implemented due to that fact it promotes elitism. The last thing anyone wants is to be kicked from a dungeon party simply because their gear isn’t on par. It just divides the community.
On the other hand, it might be good to sniff out magic find leeches. Cons outweigh the pros though.
Knight’s and etc. ascended might come in due time.

People will always find something to QQ about. Even if the game was perfect, they’d complain about the game being “too perfect”. Just the circle of life in an MMORPG.
What may have sparked the initial idea that ANet was going to throw the manifesto out the window? I certainly didn’t remember any of it. When they “did throw it out” there was the initial outrage, but that quieted down quite significantly since.
Yes, it did. After all, if you see most of the topic about it getting locked down, without being addressed in any way, at some time you will start to post less. Or just leave.
And the complaints never really stopped – they were just made less visible by a healthy dose of forum censorship and devs visible lack of attention.
For the hardcore anti-ascended I can see why they think of it this way (despite that the contrary trend is being observed). However, that still begs the question: If the moderators are so keen on censorship, why do posts complaining about ascended still exist and not get shut down? If the mods were trying to censor it, they’re doing a pretty kitten job.
This also includes posts such as some in this thread.
(edited by Heijincks.9267)
because its when they announced MANY new tiers:
Ascended
Legendary
Level cap
infusionsall paired with a new grinding involved…
First of all, legendaries were always there. Second, level cap was always there. Third, infusions are part of ascended. Also, the only tiers here you mentioned are ascended and legendary. When did you begin playing?
Its representative….and is not a so small part
Is the best feedback actually and for sure is more representative than your single word….
People wasn t happy…many good players left….
Some bad players started to play also…
Was a complete débâcle if you take time to check in game and look with your eyes….
No. The forums represent a very small fraction of the GW2 community. This is pretty much undisputed. We’d be seeing a LOT MORE posts if that wasn’t the case. As for people leaving, we don’t even know the actual numbers. What we do know though is that the numbers weren’t substantial enough to hurt the game itself.
completely false…
When you like something, you participate in discussion to make it betterm that is the point of a forum….
Again, the forums represent a very small fraction of the GW2 community. You can’t say what’s being said here is conclusive.
Not every forum is full of negativity, and mostly only casual players are those who don t come to the forum…
Actually those players that instead of complaining just leave the game…So we could say forum feedback comes from people interested in contributing to have a better game.
The forums are probably the worst place for feedback. It’s literally no man’s land in General Discussions. What kind of constructive feedback would come out of this place acknowledged? As for the other part, look in other MMORPG forums. The stuff you see here is docile compared to the flame wars that happen in other forums.
If anything, feedback would come from non-official forums.
because most players not liking the move just left…..
True, but we don’t know their intentions for leaving either.
false they delete most posts about it…
I still complain about ascended…despite i have EVERY ascended ring most of wich infused….like many othersAnd they are really easy to get (easier than exotics), otherwise i wouldn t be here.
Only you probably plus a very small select minority. We are seeing less and less posts about ascended. You say they delete them? Why did they only delete some of them then? You know if you want to cry conspiracy, you gotta do better than that man.
its not….
Its clear gear trendmill also with lot of grinding involved in some of those….
It is debatable. Look at the manifesto itself. Tell me, where does it prohibited vertical progression? As a matter of fact, it doesn’t even say it prohibits grind, only the type of grind where you kill stuff to level.
imho gw2 decresed popularity is due mostly to management….
Everyhing they do is Always against players…
They nerf professions
nerf drops
boost enemies
removes minor glitchs adding other that makes some content insnely hard and unfun…..
no fix of 99% of most asked issues….
Then absurd statement on non issues (see AoEs for example). We need content….
Content is not an invisible amulet that force me to grind for 20 days….
Content are skins, dungeons, areas, enemies…..etc etc etc.For example Fotm is content, ascended items are not.
Really? Alright sure, ANet did screw up in some parts, but it’s nowhere as bad as you say it is. Many people are still having fun, but if you’re not having fun, don’t play. I think you’re just being overly pessimistic.
(edited by Heijincks.9267)
I think the upcoming “choose your daily” settles this in a way. That being said however, it depends if there are any new dailies being introduced.
That way, the diverse number of possible achievements to “choose from” makes it more likely someone would just complete their daily from simply playing.
Also, maybe partial rewards might help as well so people don’t feel as obliged to complete their dailies. If they only completed half their daily for example, at reset they’d get half the maximum reward. The only problem is you can’t get half a laurel, but that can be remedied by a mechanism which for example, if you do two half completed dailies, you’d get one laurel for it.
There are a million problems with the game, if anything the major problem is the bulk of players confusing anet/ncsoft with what ‘they’ want from the game. The remaining playerbase want a game more like WoW, some want something akin to Everquest and others hail from games like EvE.
I still think, personally abandoning the original Manifesto was a terrible idea, and thats what lead to the mass-exodus and all the player rebellions in the first place, which lead to the reddit panel. My beef is that what mentioned on the reddit panel, none of it has materialized.
Just curious: what mass exodus? Rebellions? I’m asking this as someone who doesn’t really follow the “politics”, if you will, of this game, and haven’t really noticed anything of this nature in-game. Are there actually fewer players now, and if so, where can I find the stats? Just concerned for this game is all.
You would have to go back to the Halloween events, thats where it all started. Since then, its not hard to notice the massive amount of players who have left the game. Also, research Guild Wars 2 reddit Panel, and the reasons why.
Firstly, the accusations of “abandoning the manifesto” didn’t happen until ascended was announced (which was in November).
Secondly, “mass player exodus” happens in every newly released MMORPG. I shouldn’t be surprised that it happened to GW2.
Thirdly, people on this forum only represents a minority of people who actually plays the game. Let’s be honest here, if people are having fun with the game, they wouldn’t be on the forums in the first place. Some people don’t even know a forum exists. On another note, most “main forums” are full of negativity anyway.
Fourthly, I admit, the answers on the AMA is wishy washy. Some people didn’t get answers. Then again, it’s bad to make too many promises. It just pisses more people off in the future if they aren’t met.
Thats not exactly true either is it? There was already writing on the wall during October that anets manifesto was probably going to be thrown out the window, there was many posts and forum fights about it, I remember it pretty kitten well. And low and behold, once the ascended items was announced all hell broke loose.
Mass Exodus don’t always happen with new MMos, only when some massive changes/errors or issues that tick off alot of players. I remember my last M.E was from Everquest 2 about 5 months after launch when they was really messing around with the tier of mobs.
My point of view, is that I couldn’t really careless about the manifesto to begin with, and I’ve been following this game for years. What I care about is a fun, balanced and fair game for everyone, sadly anet is dropping the ball alot lately – only reason I’m still around is I’m giving them the benefit of doubt, at least for now. This sinking ship could always be saved with a few decent patches after all.
What may have sparked the initial idea that ANet was going to throw the manifesto out the window? I certainly didn’t remember any of it. When they “did throw it out” there was the initial outrage, but that quieted down quite significantly since. Everyone stopped complaining once they got the new ascended shinies, even the ones who were opposed to it at first. Less and less people are going to bring it up again until more ascended stuff is introduced. Then again, the claim that ANet “threw out the manifesto” is highly debatable.
As far as mass exodus is concerned however, I don’t think I’ve seen any major MMO that didn’t suffer from one at one point or another. Many new MMOs die after three months. I can’t name one that didn’t have an initial population drop soon after launch.
At the end, you’re right. It doesn’t exactly matter as long as fun ensues. Whether ANet’s been “dropping the ball” however, I only partially agree (there are definitely screw ups). As far as GW2 being a sinking ship, I beg to differ. The ship’s certainly floating — as a matter of fact sailing — just not in the direction some players would like.
