How is EoTM different to any other WvW map. You are fighting with people on your server, so if there are going to be language barrier issues then they will be the same language barrier issues that you already face in regular WvW…
No, all servers of a specific color are grouped together. So if your server is green this week, you will be grouped together with all other green servers.
To topic: You face the same problem in any overflow map. I also wonder how players are going to organize themselves (Teamspeak, commanders, …). But EotM is probably going to be more casual than WvW anyway.

I used to throw three exotic weapons (not the dungeon ones) and a mystic forge stone into the mystic forge. But after loosing 200+ gold I gave up. There are just more reliable ways to make money. Now I just use them to make mystic salvage kits.
As with daylies you either get the laurels from PvE or from PvP, but not both.
As my role as a forum elementalist suggests I will also burst into this topic and put my two cents here:
The current means to getting a precursors are truly unepic. You get lucky or grind gold to buy it. I also don’t like the “binary” aspect of it, you either have it or not. There should rather be intermediate steps in getting it. And when was the last time anybody really used a precursor? You usually get it last and put it into the mystic forge right away to get your real object of desire. This not what I expect from something called a “precursor”.
Another problem that people often complain about (yeah, me too) is that ascended gear locks you into one build. That is why many want to be able to swap stats on ascended gear. Not right from the start, but by unlocking them step by step.
So why not solve both of those problems at the same time? Add a way to unlock stat combinations on ascended gear and allow us to use fully unlocked ascended items as precursors. There you have it: You make your ascended item first, improve it over time by unlocking more stat combos until you have a precursor. During all this time you actually have something useful in your hands. Now if you want to, you can go the last step and make a legendary weapon. The unlocking part can be implemented very creatively as well. Be it a scavenger hunt, be it doing challanging content, be it crafting, you name it.
or they can do it the cheap but time consuming way and make them account bound (if you craft them). Tat way you dont upset the prices at all
And there are already account bound weapons/armor/trinkets in the game, namely the ascended ones. Add a means to unlock stats on an item and allow us to use fully unlocked ascended items as a precursors. The unlocking part can be a scavenger hunt or it can require crafting. Or it can be something totally different. Get creative here!
Even in PvE there are instances where Berserker is bad. Tequatl will just laugh at you if you bring Berserker gear to the fight, as he cannot be crit. This renders two out of three stats on you gear useless.
“The Edge of the Mists” is also the name of the release, like “The Origins of Madness”.
As I understand it, EotM is going to be a WvW map right from the start. There is also going to be a small portion of the living story going to happen on that map, but the larger part is going to occur on PvE maps.

Some description of the bug you are talking about would be great.
Was this really part of the last live stream?
I sadly completely missed it…Is there somewhere already a text list about everything that has been talked about?
Dulfy created a written summary of the live stream: http://dulfy.net/2014/01/31/gw2-edges-of-the-mists-developer-livestream-notes/. By the way, thanks a lot for all the great work.
I hope that queue indicators will be available for overflows too. Actually, I hope they clean up their overflow code so that when you get the option to leave an overflow, it doesn’t send you to another overflow.
They are likely able to reuse most of the code they wrote here for this as well. So if it works out for WvW, it would be great if they added it in PvE, too.
Awsome link, is that a near live post or just a average of what they go for.
They are pulling the current prices from the game using the trading post API. The prices are probably not 100% up to date as they are buffered for better performance and to put less stress on the servers. But as they are refreshing their buffers quite often, not too much should have changed.
The cooldown of Armor of Earth is going to be brought down to 75 seconds in the upcoming balance patch. This is still long, but more reasonable than 90 seconds. Using Cantrip Mastery you can even bring it down to 60 seconds. This is reasonable for a stun breaker and 6 seconds stability and protection. With increased boon duration, you can prolong this even further.
Mist form also has a 75 seconds cooldown untraited and 60 seconds if traited. For another stun breaker, 3 seconds invulnerability and increased movement speed this is pretty OK. You will love this skill in WvW when you just vapor through 50 people zerging in front of a gate.
The other two cantrips (Cleansing Fire and Lightning Flash) are also very nice skills. Casting Churning Earth far away from a small group of people and using Lightning Flash to teleport right into them, finishing the cast there is always great fun. Those utilities have a 40 seconds cooldown (32 seconds if traited), which is shorter than the cooldown of many – if not most – other utilities in the game.
After reading through other people’s suggestions on this topic, I rewrote the first post in this thread. In another thread it was also suggested to allow upgrade and infusion swapping on items. This can also be worked into this framework of unlocking features of your gear and making it better step by step.
I was always an advocate of swap statting – eh, stat swapping. It should not be free, though. Just add an option to unlock stats on ascended gear. This unlocking part can be implemented very creatively, be it crafting, a scavenger hunt or something else. I like phys’s suggestion as well.
Maybe even allow us to use fully unlocked ascended gear as a legendary precursor. This would basically solve two problems at once. I tried to think through this idea in another thread (link is in my signature).
Edit: Changed “ascended weapon” to “ascended gear”. This option should really be available for ascended trinkets and armor as well.

Thanks for sharing your insights. I thought the Megadestroyer maybe did extra damage while standing in the lava or spawns adds. That would be kind of cool actually.
CoOo, this is looking quite nice. I might be getting one of those. A Permanent Quaggan Tonic (no gemstore item) would be pretty awesome as well.
Here are a couple of questions about world boss events. Thanks in advance for reading through it or answering.
The Shatterer:
Whenever I shoot one of the cannons on the hills, I get thrown back slightly and have to press F again to control it. Only to have it happen the next time again. Is there any way to prevent this?
Inquest’s Golem Mark II:
Someone said that the part east of him at about 800 range is less likely to be targeted by his electrical field attack. When I paid attention to this, it was really hit only once during the fight. So, is any part of the floor equally likely to be hit by that attack or are there differences? (answered)
Claw of Jormag:
1. During the first phase of the battle there is a small area directly northwest of Jormag that is neither affected by Icy Ground nor any other attacks. Is this intended? (answered)
2. What causes Jormag to become stunned in phase 2? How many golems have to get through to accomplish this?
Lyssa:
1. Many people say that you have to turn away when under the effect of Corrupted Gaze to prevent further mobs from spawning. Is there really a connection between looking there and spawning mobs?
2. Failing to defend the northwest and northeast seals causes the event to reset. Why doesn’t failing to defend the cannon have the same effect?
3. Do the defend event occur in any specific order/on a specific timer or is it just random?
Fire shaman:
During phase 3 and 5 of the battle, where you have to weaken the summoned elemental, the fire elemental sometimes is reset to full health. I suspect attacking the fire shaman causes this, but it is not propagated anywhere. Is this the real reason and is this working as intended? (answered)
Megadestroyer:
Many people want him to be dragged out of the lava. Is there any different use in this other than allowing players to engage him in melee? (answered)

Just read this and it looks indeed very promising. Thanks for that, guys!
In the last patch they introduced the option to buy 10 obsidian shards from the vendor at the Balthasar temple. It’s a quick and dirty fix, but an improvement nonetheless. Still I’d rather be able to buy multiple ones of any item with a click of a button. The same goes for consuming items.
Tequatl and the worm are designed to be difficult to complete and are targeted for hardcore players. Why shouldn’t those guys get something to do in the game as well? Not everything in the game is supposed to be for everyone, but there should be something for everyone. And those event accomplish exactly this, while not excluding players.
There is also this site (http://gw2crafts.com) that can give you some guidance. Don’t follow it blindly, though. You should just focus on recipes that require armorsmith 400+ to level at the moment. All the other stuff does not help much anymore.
You can craft some base ingredients like Bloodstone Bricks or Glob of Elder Spirit Residue at level 450 already. Those can also be used to gain a couple of levels in your crafting profession and you need them anyway for your ascended stuff.
I’d recommend to use the orichalcum and ancient wood only to make Orichalcum Dagger Blades and the like, not for inscription. Buy the cheapest inscriptions, like Shaman/Rabid/Settlers …, off the trading post. Those are about half as expensive as making Berserker inscriptions yourself.
Gift of exploration should not be changed. They should rather rework dungeons to prevent path-selling or make it unprofitable at least. Just buying your tokens cannot be the original idea behind that requirement. Currently it is just another gold sink for many people.
Next Tuesday we are going to get a new map. It is going to be a WvW one sooner or later, but it is still a new map.
A build should not rely on summoning items. They are more like an emergency button, e. g. if Tequatl is at 10% but there are only 2 minutes left. That said I like the last change insofar that it prevents spamming those items. Although I would have preferred a global 10 minutes cooldown for summoning items (like in GW 1) instead of separate 30 minutes cooldowns per type. But it is still better than before.
I actually did not want it to be implemented exactly like this, it was just an illustrating example. But going back to it, I agree that I put the emphasis on that overly complicated example, so thanks for comment. I rewrote it accordingly.
but my idea could work with ur precursor idea.
Yes, it does. There are quite a few different ways the unlocking part can be implemented. Another idea is the often mentioned “scavenger hunt”. This was the term Anet used originally for the non-RNG way of making precursors.
We are getting a new permanent world boss and a new permanent map within two weeks. This is certainly a nice start into the new year. I do not expect them to keep going like this, but there is probably some permanent content in all living story patches.
For WvW this feature is necessary, because there are no overflows. For PvE this is the same thing lots of Germans do in holidays: Put their towel on a lounger before breakfast, go walking on the beach and come back after lunch to lay down. During those hours other people might be happy to really use that lounger, however.
What makes you think the market would crash if the were sellable …. other than just saying it?
The market would crash if it was sellable and significantly cheaper than current precursors.
It would be great if the personal story was more, well, personal. I really hope for some changes in the future.
(edited by Ignavia.7420)
Thank you for stating your criticism in a non-sarcastic, constructive way.
There should be a means to unlock stats on any ascended item. I have a link to a similar idea in my signature.
there is PvE content that uses supply?
No, but you can also use the command to count the people around you.
It would be cool, if you could adjust the range. Say you type /supplyinfo, press enter, a circle around you appears, you can drag its circumference (between 150 and 1500 range for example), press enter again and you get your information.
Especially for those PvE events where people are not used to stacking or just AFK before the fight starts, this could be very useful.
Edit: Also a /count command for commanders would be great. The supply info you get from /supplyinfo (pun not intended) is a bit overkill to count people.

Just so you know, I encounter this problem, too.
Is the item in your inventory or in the bank? If it is in your inventory, did you place it in an invisible bag?
This usually happens to me just before I get disconnected. The chat window continues to work though.
This is a different issue. I bet you can’t use instant cast skills in this situation. The bug describe here is caused by improperly picking up an item. I experienced it again an hour ago during the Marionette battle after interacting with a warrior banner. BTW: I would also really appreciate getting an official response. Just so we know the problem was recognized.
Does that mean we are also getting account bound WvW ranks next week?
In my opinion ascended weapon are the perfect precursors for legendary weapons. Not directly of course, just as a basis for further refinements towards a precursor. For example stat combinations could be unlocked on an ascended item and once you got them all, it is a precursor.
Pros:
- Because ascended weapons are already in the game it is easier to implement.
- Getting ascended weapons is a part-success on the long road to a legendary weapon. Not many people use the current precursors, but lots of people use ascended weapons. This also makes ascended weapons are more short time goal than legendary ones and not an alternative path.
- If they introduce legendary armor/trinkets in the future they can do the same thing for their precursors.
- No progress is lost if you decide to make a legendary item after already getting its ascended counterpart.
- Ascended items are account bound, thereby limiting its impact on the trading post.
- The problem of ascended items locking you into on build is solved, as they are now extensible. You can just acquire the stat combinations you want and stop right there if you are not interested in legendary stuff.

This certainly proves, that they think about adding legendary trinkets to the game. They might want to work a bit on the balancing, though.

I would substitute the processor for an Intel Core i5-4670K or some other Haswell processor. These use another socket (LGA 1150) so you need a different motherboard as well. The reason for this is, that the next generation of Intel processors is going to use this socket as well (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LGA_1150). So if you want to switch to a newer processor at some time in the future, you don’t have to ditch your motherboard, too. What comes after this, though, who knows?
Also think about buying an extra CPU cooler as well. The one that comes with the processor can sound like a landing helicopter from time to time.

Okay, so would my budget still allow me a good enough computer to where in giant zergs it would still be playable? Like 20-30 fps?
On Max settings.
Unless there are lots of AoE fields on the ground and everyone is spamming skills like crazy, it should work out. As far as I’m concerned Anet is also taking steps to make the game run more smoothly and put less stress on the servers. The 30 minute cooldown on summoning items was a first step in this direction.
Why would there be? The ones for doing fractals (infused) come from doing fractals. The crafted ones are there to support other parts of the game.
Let’s have a closer look at this. To make a Book of Secrets – which can be infused – you either use
- 1 Vial of Condensed Mists Essence
- 40 Crystal
- 50 Glob of Ectoplasm
- 250 Vial of Powerful Blood
or the new recipe
- 250 Pile of Bloodstone Dust
- 40 Crystal
- 50 Glob of Ectoplasm
- 250 Vial of Powerful Blood
I do not see any need to do fractals to craft this infusable back piece. The same goes for nearly all other back items.
If legendary armor/trinkets are introduced, the appropriate ascended item should find a place in the crafting process. The same should be done for current and future legendary weapons. Legendary items (including weapons) should only be a cosmetic upgrade of ascended items. Under this premise I am looking forward to new legendary stuff.
They could also make the item give a fixed amount of experience instead, for example 115,759 experience. This is how much you need to get from level 1 to level 20. Since this is not even one level once you hit level 65, I would also propose that the scroll grants you at least 5 levels.
Did you post your party request in Dungeons -> The Ruined City of Arah? If not, you should try that. Also set your party description to “story” or something similar. Under normal circumstances, it should be possible with some waiting to find three people, at least if do not play during off hours.
You can (and should) take up to 5 people for this last story instance. The Looking For Group Tool (top left corner of your screen) can be used to find more people. I agree though, that this is not a great way to finish your personal story. Maybe we will see some changes to it in the future.
