I found the problem… I need to build ANOTHER research lvl… I have build lvl 3, not 4 as I thought. Problem solved.
Cool. Glad you got it solved.
3rd ticket raised, still no email or in-game contact
Raising more tickets isn’t going to help — something is preventing the email from getting to you. Until that’s solved, it’s unlikely that customer support will be able to assist. (No one will ever contact you 1:1 in game for the initial contact.)
The Account & Tech forum has a sticky that I hope will help:

(even if you’re not using one of those providers)
The “best” way to farm silk is to do anything you like in game and use the coin you earn to buy it on the TP. This maximizes the amount of fun you have, while minimizing the grind/tedium. The game is designed to favor this method.
Second best if buying up containers that drop silk and selling the rest of the contents. (Best tool for this: wiki + GW2 Shinies’ Breaking Bag .) This involves some time researching to identify the applicable bags and choosing carefully the ones that can be bought in bulk for relatively cheap compared to the value of their contents.
Third best is doing stuff that generates these bags or light armor directly: Silverwastes chest farms, Orrian temples, and Silverwastes event farming (in that order, with chest farming almost always being the fastest method).
Since everyone differs in their definitions of “fun” and “tedious”, your mileage will vary.
tl;dr buy on TP, so you don’t burn out doing stuff you don’t like. Let others farm it for you.
If you don’t have enough room with the current options, then you have a hoarding problem, not a storage problem.
- Up to 12 bank tabs (360 slots).
- Up to 20-slots/bag (→ 100 slots/character, including original backpack).
- Up to 7 bags/character (maximum 160/character).
- Up to 6 stacks for the collections (saving dozens of slots).
- Personal storage banks (50 slots for 5g, up to 250 slots for ~100g)
Other tools to save room:
- Infinite gathering tools.
- Deposit-all to collections
- Copper-fed Salvage-o-Matic
- Bank express (perm or temp)
- BL Merchants (perm or temp).
It must have been years since the OP played, since dailies specific to Ascalon, etc have been in the game for a really long time. Further, the new daily login rewards offer close to the same rewards we used to get for both dailies & monthlies — a few things are even better in the new system. The only big thing missing from the (not very) new dailies is achievement points.
I think it’s reasonable that we be asked to travel Tyria to get the new rewards.
I’m a member of 2 guilds. One wich is the one I represent. The other one is a guild where I’m the only member – for storage (only representing that one when starting upgrades or depositing/withdrawing mats). I have bought influence for 20g and started an upgrade for 10.000 influence to increase my space there.
However the upgrade has disapeared/was never finished but my influence was still drawn. Now it says I only have 5.500 Influence left despite buying influence for 20 g and starting the upgrade to “Reaserch Architecture lvl 4” In order to build a “Guild Treasure trove” next.
What has happened?
Is here a possibility to be refunded or sort this in any way?
I’m going to ask some questions that might seem obvious, just to make sure we have them covered. (These are all things I’ve seen people do and, sadly, I’ve done a few of them myself.)
- After buying the influence, did you actually consume the influence generating item? (check by: manually inspecting inventory of any/all characters that might have done the buying)
- Were you repping the appropriate guild? (check by: reviewing the influence subtab of the guild panel for both guilds).
- Did you accelerate the the speed at which the improvement would be built? (check by: reviewing the influence subtab). You get 100% influence back if you cancel an upgrade. However, any spent to speed things up cannot be recovered.
- Have you double-checked to make sure that all improvements that were scheduled actually completed (for both guilds)? (check by: also recorded in the guild log)
If you have done all of the above, I would create a support ticket (https://help.guildwars2.com/anonymous_requests/new). Only Customer Service would be able to follow-up if it’s something else (and they can only act if you have a valid ticket).
In all the examples I’ve read on the forums (and helped with in game), I’ve never seen influence go missing the way you describe. That doesn’t mean it can’t happen, only that it seems more likely that something else happened.
The painful and time consuming process of mass forging is the biggest reason some of the mystic forge recipes are profitable because many players rather pile up their skill points/spirit shards than turning them into gold because its utterly boring.
I agree with Wanze: the reason there’s profit to be made is that most of us prefer to do something easier. Compare to ordinary crafting: most things don’t generate much profit on average; those that do often involve karma ingredients (which most people can’t be bothered to re-stock).
tl;dr ANet probably wants mystic forge upgrade recipes to be tedious and time consuming, for the in-game economy.
Repetitive motion stress is an unintended consequence of the mechanic, generally affecting a narrower part of the community.
you can also email
exploits@arena.net
Too bad it has misinformation, such as the Ranger Pet Names issue.
I doubt any Devs will respond here; though, of course, one never knows for sure.
Good luck.
This is only partially wrong. Pet names are wiped when you change your pets out for different pets, not when you use the pet swap mechanic. It is an actual thing, and has been since before the release of the game. There is no indication that it will ever be fixed.
Sorry to digress for a nitpick, but that isn’t a bug — it’s the intended design. So, it might be an “actual thing” but it’s not an actual bug and so doesn’t need to be fixed. (It’s certainly annoying and I wish they would change it; it’s just not a cheap change.)
Also tried disabling my antivirus and firewall again as they blamed those. No luck ofc. Same crash.
Did you update the ticket with that information? Customer service is usually very good about follow-up.
(FYI there are cases where anti-virus software thinks there’s a threat from one of the 3rd party programs that gw2.exe — some malware piggy backs on top of legit software that has a security hole — so it is possible for a game to bug out due to anti-virus. I don’t know if that’s the situation for you or not.)
Same situation again. IP 64.25.38.238 bugged.
Did you check MithranArkenere’s suggestion? that one of the NPCs in one of the chain’s other events might need to be rez’d.
As pointed out in the other thread, the item is working as intended: it goes with the old (masterwork) boosters; the new (rare) ones are already “enchanted”
I’m not surprised we haven’t seen character slots or makeover kits discounted — these are items that people are likely to buy regardless. In contrast, things like bag slots, gathering tools, etc are things that some people will buy if offered at a reduced price.
Wondering if there has been any news about this being addressed?
I have strength runes on celestial asc gear and want to change it to soldiers. Not willing to drop the strength runes if this change will be implemented at some point soon.
Soon? Almost certainly not.
The current method of changing stats uses the mystic forge, which always destroys the items you toss into it. They’d have to overhaul the mechanic or introduce a new one and with HoT on the way, I can’t imagine that would happen soon. Additional, indirect evidence comes from the fact that ANet has not taken the opportunity to hint about a future alternative (even as they have taken the time to comment about the current one).
Will they someday introduce a method to make it easier to recover upgrades? Again, the indirect evidence suggests they won’t. This was an issue when the wardrobe was introduced and they have had several opportunities to address it in various ways.
I further theorize that they are happy with the status quo in which “meta” runes/sigils remain pricey.
My personal preference is that they should make it easier to change PvE & WvW stats, so that people are more likely to experiment. I just don’t think it’s likely for economic in-game and financial out-of-game reasons.
I think these tools aren’t worth it unless they give you a copy for every character imo. You get free tools from winderday gifts and you can buy them with karma too. Just seems like 1000 gems is way high for them.
Everyone’s definition of “worth it” is different. It’s almost certainly not cost effective to buy them. However, for those who primarily farm using the same character (or stop off at the bank between sessions), it’s really handy not to have to reserve inventory slots for tools.
I believe you are looking for the local.dat file. On Win7, it’s located in mydocuments/Guild Wars 2.
Double check that the other bits of the chain aren’t stalled due to a dead NPC (someone found that that can still happen).
On the whole, though, I think the chain has been much more reliable — I’ve yet to find a map that didn’t have it succeed several times in a row, many times a day. (Which, of course, doesn’t meant that it can’t fail, only that it seems a lot less likely to do so.)
Well, I decided to create a second ticket a few hours ago and I still haven’t had an email response, automated or not, for either of my tickets now.
Are you with Virgin Media?
Yes, I am.
Some legit emails are blocked by various ISPs — turns out, preventing false positives increases the rate of false negatives, so some companies err on the side of too much caution. You might be able to adjust settings to specifically allow email from anet.com and related domains.

Fun idea, OP. +1
Just to clarify my situation:
I got all 3 gifts for predator except the precursor and I am currently at 450gold cash.
The precursor costs between 700-850.I think once HoT comes out I will be at 600g cash min.
Put in a buy order now for something like 300g or whatever you are comfortable paying. Prices go up and down and I’ve gotten some premium items (including a precursor) for anywhere from 30-50% off compared to other buy offers, when that particular item tanked in price briefly (e.g. for a few hours or days).
When HoT comes out, one of the following will happen:
- You’ll get your precursor at what would today be a bargain price
- You don’t get it and you can re-evaluate (either withdrawing the offer to spend on something else while you make your own or deciding to up the ante).
Orinku: did you at least get the automated email confirming your ticket? If not, check your spam folder (some email systems treat incorrectly identify that email as spam, which then makes it difficult to communicate with Customer Service).
If you did get that email, has it been more than 3 days without a human response? If yes, you can escalate to the sticky thread setup for that purpose: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/support/GW2-Tickets-for-Review-3-days-older-1.
Nope, no email. Guess I’ll raise another ticket then.
Don’t start a new one (that will just mean that CS has to spend more time sorting things out). Instead, see if you can figure out where your email provider hid the automated email. Customer Service nearly always follows up on that “courtesy” notice with questions or suggestions and awaits your response. And if you miss that auto-reply, you are probably missing the follow-up, too.
Try spam|junk folders and double check any custom filters — that takes care of any possible locations that you can find.
no matter how i look at it i see this as an upgrade and the next step up on armour quality
It’s immaterial how you look at it (or, for that matter, how I do). In GW2, gear tiers are entirely determined by stats. Since ascended and legendary armor will have identical stats, they belong to the same gear tier.
Legendary armor is still going to be more coveted than ascended. However, the fact that people have a preference for it doesn’t mean it’s higher quality.
Oh guys! It’s account bound. I just looked at it.
Good to know. It might be worth updating the wiki.
Anyone can click on the “ask a question” tab on the article and leave a link to this thread. You don’t have to know a thing about wikis.
It’s on their list of things to do. They’d like to do it, but they’re doing other stuff right now.
It’s been on their list of things to do for three years. I’ve never been quite sure why it’s so hard to save builds, even if you can’t load them — after all, 3rd party websites have managed this for 2.9 years.
So, I agree that they must have other priorities. What I don’t understand is why this has never been one of them.
Actually probably more like 2 years…but yeah, since an expansion was on the list…and that’s the focus, it’s how they prioritize.
They talked about it during BETA, so by my count, it’s been over 3 years. And according to them, the expansion wasn’t yet on their radar.
But that is besides the point. My question has never been: why can’t ANet implement all the good ideas? (Of course they can’t.) I want to know why they haven’t prioritized this particular good idea.
I’m sure they have a substantive reason and they aren’t required to share it with us. I’m just saying it completely befuddles me; I can think of no philosophical or systemic reason why they haven’t even offered us the option to saving the equivalent of an in-game screenshot. It’s among the most basic of QoL features present in combat-heavy games, including ANet’s own GW1.
Loading the builds is more technically challenging (since most people consider GW2 builds to be closely linked with gear and there’s currently no provision made for automatically changing gear in PvE). But that only explains why we don’t have build+gear loading; it doesn’t explain why this hasn’t been a big enough priority that we’ve seen any in-game progress on this front.
tl;dr why hasn’t this been on ANet’s list of priorities? What has been their philosophy that saving builds hasn’t been important enough? Or what has been so technically challenging that they haven’t been able to divert enough resources? (And again, I don’t think we are entitled to an answer; I still think I get to ask the question.)
Anet, please remove the annoying SMS prompt on login. The subdued “Ask Me Later” is a cheesy marketing tactic that is beneath you and spoils your legacy. I feel like you are coercing me into giving out my cell number.
I didn’t give ANet my phone number and I have two-step authorization.
Simple answer: they haven’t done a build system because their trait system has been changed multiple times over the years.
The system only changed fundamental once (from the old version to specializations). The only thing that changed about builds before was how you unlocked specific traits (it used to be automatic; that got changed to a gated system).
The skills & traits did change, as with any MMO that rebalances regularly.
It was rather impossible when the trait system was changing every so often.
Clearly it wasn’t impossible since several third party sites managed it.
I guess that makes sense. I was just wondering why my heritage and zenith were always free to apply without restrictions
As you say, heritage and zenith skins are special rewards, including the no-transmute cost. There’s no specific philosophical or technical rationale why some things cost transmute charges and others don’t; it’s just a combination of marketing, pricing, and loyalty rewards.
I’m having exactly the same problems on multiple episodes of the Living Story Season 2 with multiple characters, I’ll get towards the end of the episodes and at the same point on every episode I get disconnected with the same error code given.
I repaired my client but this had no effect, I have raised a ticket but no response yet. Other than this problem, my connection is rock solid when playing GW.
Running Windows 8.1, via Bootcamp on an iMac (27-inch, Late 2012).
Orinku: did you at least get the automated email confirming your ticket? If not, check your spam folder (some email systems treat incorrectly identify that email as spam, which then makes it difficult to communicate with Customer Service).
If you did get that email, has it been more than 3 days without a human response? If yes, you can escalate to the sticky thread setup for that purpose: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/support/GW2-Tickets-for-Review-3-days-older-1.
edit: ack! I forgot about the exchange fees! So what would I need to see for gold->gems in order to make money and is that the normal price?
Break-even point is ~38%, i.e. 1/(.85*.85) = 1.384…
For example
- If you bought gems for 10g/100 gems, you’d starting making coin by buying gold back when the rate rose above ~13.8g/100 gems.
- Similarly, if you sold gems for gold at 100 gems to get 10g, you’d start earning extra gems by buying them back when the rate dropped below 100 gems yielding 7.225 gems.
Since the method of determining when a server is full has changed, your friend won’t be able to join a Full Server for some time; it could be weeks or months.
Server status is now based on WvW activity. You might consider transferring to a non-Full server if you want to play WvW with your friend.
To expand on this, the current method of determining population looks at WvW activity over the past weeks and months. That means it won’t change from hour to hour, day to day, and probably not week to week. That means “full” servers are going to remain full for a really long time — until/unless ANet does something to add capacity (without adding skill lag) or introduces incentives for folks to leave popular servers.
(The old system looked a short term population, so it was common for full servers to have a spot or two under various circumstances. The new system doesn’t allow for it. On the one hand, it’s good that the system is more fair. On the other, it’s a shame that there’s no way to join friends in WvW who happen to have attached themselves to popular worlds.)
Collect tracert information (or something similar) and send it to ANet via a support ticket. They’ll need data like that to help, whether it’s on their end (not very likely), their ISP (or their ISP’s ISP), or to help you pressure your own ISP. The internet is a big sea of interconnectivity and your signal could be getting stalled at any of the hops along the way.
Wait what. Seriously O_o. My bad. I haven’t been in the Silverwastes for months, I was so sure that you could purchase them from the main vendor in the Pact camp, but I’ve checked and you’re right.
Sorry for that!
You’re probably thinking of bandit keys. Those you can buy for bandit crests.
Shovels you can only get from fort events.
Pretty sure that you can get shovels from any of the events that include a bouncy/bonus chest. However, KdT’s main point stands: you can’t buy shovels for love, money, or bandit crests.
Most cutscenes can be skipped. Most in-game dialogue can’t be (because it’s not a cinematic — it’s happening in real time).
Generally speaking, players have said they prefer in-game dialogue (cutscenes take us out of the moment) and that’s why more of the dialogue in LS2 is in-game compared to the PS, which has a lot of cutscenes. Similarly, Dungeons have a lot of cutscenes and the most recently-added fractals have in-game dialogue.
There’s no easy way to balance the competing needs: in-game dialogue is a lot nicer when playing through for the story and skippable cutscenes are better for repeating content, when you just want to get to the boss or the achievement.
Since I am really close to finish my legendary and only need a few hundred gold to get the precursor as last part I am curious if I should maybe wait with getting the precursor until HoT, since prices may change because people will be able to craft the precursors.
No one can tell which way prices are going to go in the long run; there are just too many variables in both directions.
- When the original news came out, most precursor prices tanked, as everyone assumed they would have easy access to the next set of precursors.
- Recently, prices rose when people discovered that there won’t be 19 new legendaries on the day HoT launches.
- Similarly, there’s been a more modest trend towards higher prices as people get a sense that the relevant masteries won’t be instantly maxed on 23 October.
So, in your shoes, I’d consider which is more important:
- Having a legendary unlocked now, that I can use & enjoy for the next 4-5 months or longer.
- Waiting for 6-8 weeks for HoT to launch and re-evaluating (and risking a price increase as others do the same).
Or as it is written: do you want the bird in the hand? Or a chance for the two in the bush?
edit: clarity and context
(edited by Illconceived Was Na.9781)
I am having the same problem. my reward level is 17.
First i did a 30 and got a chest
then a 49 and got nothing
then did a 20 and got nothing
If I understand correctly, you can only get one chest per tier a day. Since your personal level is 17, you got an 11-20 chest on your first run (L30) and your two subsequent runs would have hit Diminished Returns, i.e. no chest for those (since it would have been the same tier as your first run).
You would get a chest for doing a 30 followed by a nine (instead of a 49).
This will change as you gain enough levels to reach the higher tiers.
The new experience boosters aren’t enchantable, which is probably fine since they already include a bunch of buffs.
I’ve learned not to press [f] when the prompt is “Greet”.
(That’s a lot cheaper for ANet and does not require me to hold my breath waiting for better NPC AI.)
So lets say someone converts 800 GEMS into 150 Gold, about what the current exchange is right now. If they were to save that 150 gold for after this sale and when exchange rates goes back to normal, that 150 gold can possibly be exchanged again for more than 800 GEMs?
The market does not work like that. In order to convert gold to get your original 800 gems you will have to put in far more gold than what was paid out when you did the exchange dues to the ratios
The [exchange] does work like that. The different rate between the direction of exchange makes short-term flipping of gems impossible. Long-term flipping of gems is possible but requires a lot of patience and becomes more difficult to do as the exchange rate becomes more stable. Linfang may have to wait a long time before they see a gem profit.
I bought some gems with gold at ~14g/100 gems around April. If I exchanged those gems right now, I’d get ~18g back, a 28% return on my investment. That’s not a particular good rate for 5+ months of appreciation. On the other hand, it requires no effort at all, just buying low and selling high.
(The math, of course, is similar for trading gems to gold and then back to gems. The main difference is that you have to hope that the rate goes down by more than 40% eventually. Whereas, when trading gold→gems→gold, you wait for it to go up. I leave it as a an exercise for the reader to determine which is more likely.)
Can the dye pool for the dye packs please only contain Rare dyes?
With the current gem prices that keep rising it’s really a shame that you still drop useless blue/green dyes
With an only rare dye drop pool you can at least get something that’s worth your gems.Side-question: Who buys those Color Swatches?
I agree with this post 100%. The problem with the current system is it gives common easily obtainable dyes that go for mere coppers on the TP (for good reason I might add) when no one buys the packs with exclusives for a common dye. No one buys the Taimini dye kit for a freakin’ blurple.
If you want a Taimi premium dye (i.e. the Electro colors), buy it on the TP; it’s much cheaper. Only buy the Taimi Kit if you want the excitement of rolling the dice.
Why on earth would ANYONE need that many slots?! There are 8 professions. 1 slot per profession should be enough! And don’t go telling me it’s for “different builds”, because you can simply change the build on the existing profession as many times as you wish…. Seriously, I don’t get it. Lol.
Why do you need even one character slot? Because that’s how you have fun.
Other people enjoy creating leveling more than being L80. Some folks like having one character parked at each world boss, for storage, or for farming JP chests. I have extra mesmers for tag-team porting. And don’t get us started on the preferences of roleplayers — some might think that 67 slots are too few.
Rats.
So, at this point, if you haven’t already, you should create a support ticket , since it’s likely you’ll need Customer Service’s help.
While you work with them, there are a couple of other things that I would try, since they have worked when I’ve helped others get through a sticky spot in either the LS or the PS.
- Have someone else lead the instance and follow their progress. This shouldn’t make any material difference; for some reason, sometimes it does.
- Tune down your graphics to the barest minimum. Change the field of view so you are looking at the dullest part of the environment. This works best with leeching (above) and really only has to be done right before that bit of dialogue. Again, this doesn’t sound like it should work; it apparently does because sometimes there’s a DC error message when the actual issue is something graphical.
Given your obvious technical chops, I don’t have high hopes that either of the above will do the trick. (Because you have probably done all the things to address those sorts of potential issues.) In your shoes, though, I’d rather be trying something instead of just waiting on support.
Good luck and thanks for keeping us posted. (I’ll update if I see someone else who managed to solve a parallel issue.)
(edited by Illconceived Was Na.9781)
Try clearing your TP cache and changing your default browser for windows.
Basically, the TP is a website that is display on a custom browser (using coherent_ui.exe) and suffers from symptoms that any other website hits when dealing with the sheer volume of data it’s supposed to be able to handle. This includes the occasional corrupted cache file, “stickiness” display certain things, and sometimes latency updating seemingly simple changes.
Clearing the cache (instructions in the Account & Technical Support sticky for TP troubleshooting) helps eliminate a number of minor issues that cause major annoyance. Similarly, changing your default web browser for Windows has various hard-to-explain impact on the performance. And for some reason, this matters ore for Windows X. (In a parallel example, another player can’t use the in-game /wiki command with their preferred browser, while it works fine using a different one.)
Your mileage will vary.
Good luck and please keep us posted on your progress, so we can better advise the next person running into the same sort of thing.
Honestly… I feel like part of the benefit of the new specializations system is it seems to lend itself to build templates better than the old system did. So I sort of view it as a progression. They already knew it was a very popular request from sPvPers and now with Raids coming it’ll likely be more popular among PvEers as well.
Also the thing to remember is, 3rd party websites aren’t dealing directly with the GW2 engine and code, just because they have managed to do it doesn’t mean it isn’t a difficult thing to get done in game.
I’m sure you’re right that specializations make saving builds easier.
However, I have to disagree with you about saving builds in-game being more difficult than 3rd party sites — there’s nothing different about displaying the build through an in-game browser vs an external one (and GW2 already has the code built-in for display). What might be difficult is being able to apply the build to your character, rather than just showing it (so you can manually apply it).
But if that’s hard to do, I have to question why ANet made the design decision not to build in this functionality from the start — it’s a feature of nearly every other game of similar kind (including GW1).
tl;dr I get that ANet has had other things they are working on. I just have never understood why this particular, popular tool hasn’t seemed to be a priority for them.
I think some of you guys are misunderstanding what I’m asking for. I want the dye kits to only drop the exclusive dyes that come with that specific dye pack and the regular rare dyes. Most of the regular rare dyes are around 1-2g with 5 dyes being the exception.
Gambling should give you back something that will make you continue gambling. But the way it is now that is not case for me
Lotteries are setup to have a small number of huge prizes, a slightly greater number of medium prizes, and the vast majority are tiny. State-run lotteries typically offer an expected 50% return: you spend 2 Euros (or 2 dollars), expect to get 1 back — this includes the jackpot prizes, which means most people get nothing.
So again, if you want to avoid the gamble and get something guaranteed, convert your gems into gold (which, at today’s exchange rate, is a good deal), and buy the colors you want directly. ANet still gets cash for gems and you don’t have to gamble. Win-Win.
I find it rather very funny.
I’d love to see how long these people who’re cryingg about an innocent little prank would last in EVE Online.
EVE & GW2 are designed completely differently. EVE is deliberately competitive and GW2 is deliberately non-competitive (in PvE anyhow). In EVE, you should expect to be trolled, lied to, and cheated (by some); in GW2, you should expect that cooperation is more likely.
Who can realistically afford those out of control gem prices now? Only those rich top few of course. A new player coming into the game and seeing that will be immediately discouraged from even looking at the gem store (I know because I have already had to address this from some new player recruits). When will these prices be brought into check? Where is the limit? Do the developers think this current conversion rate is a fair exchange of time played vs gems rewarded? Discuss (prefferrably without trolling)
You do realize that the gold:gem conversion is a convenience? Gems are designed to be purchased with cash. If you are cheap (like me) and don’t want to spend cash, you need to expect that it’s going to be costly to convert.
The limit will be reached naturally: the highest the gold:gem conversion rate is, the more it encourages folks with more cash than time to spend on gems and convert to gold, which will lower prices. Rates peak during sales and drop during gem shop droughts, as it did just a month ago (you could get 100 gems for 17 gold consistently, and if you waited for the opportunity, for as low as 15-16g). Last November, prices peaked at close to 20g/100 gems and then by Mar/Apr you could get 100 gems for 13g.
Finally, the high rate also makes it harder for gold sellers to profit (they have to farm a lot more gold to make the same money.
tl;dr high rates are great for those who have disposable real world cash; gold:gem rates will self-moderate; and it’s merely a convenience for players like me (too cheap or broke to spend RL cash on gems).
You’ve misunderstood what the Dye Kits are: they are lotteries, not utilities. Buy them only for the entertainment value you get rolling the dice to see what drops; don’t buy them if your goal is getting specific drops.
Instead, purchase on the TP; while the kits are on sale, that will be cheaper (nearly always — the exceptions involve some unusual circumstances). I just picked up a ton of the colors you are calling “useless” for bargain prices and the rare ones for sub-bargain prices. Plus, the premium colors themselves (Electro xyz) are all at their lowest points (roughly) since just after the Taimi Kit left the gem shop.
tl;dr Dye Kits are for the slot-machine excitement; to purchase for the best price, use the TP.
